CIVANA Wellness Resort and Spa

The staff was amazing everywhere but the main restaurant which was just okay. The rooms are big but there is no view. The carpets and some of the rooms can use some upkeep and love. The spas is outstanding and the people working there were amazing. Same for the instructors. The food was disappointing and just not what I’d expect at such a resort. Carefree is also far from Scottsdale.

The hotel is really beautiful! The only disappointment I had is from the lack of availability of classes I wanted to attend to and had a long waiting list.

The spa was the BEST! All the amenities are wonderful! Staff was so attentive. Loved it!

The staff are amazing. The property is clean and well maintained. The Spa was great. I wasn’t able to eat at the onsite restaurants but that’s not on them. As my husband wanted to adventure off property.

The property itself feels a bit older, though it’s clear it has been refreshed in some areas. It’s a smaller resort with just one main restaurant and a café, which keeps things simple but a bit limited. Service was decent, though not especially standout. A couple things to be aware of: the pool wasn’t as clean as we would have hoped, and the rooms are fairly basic. Also, if you’re sensitive to noise, I would recommend requesting a room away from the main entrances, as the doors opening and closing can be quite loud. Overall, it’s a nice, low-key place to unwind, with a spa that really makes it worth the visit.

It was a beautiful resort. The pool was nice, the spa was a short walk from our room, and there were nice areas to hang out and relax. All of the staff was friendly and helpful. I had a great time here and would definitely come back.

I loved the classes. They were legit. They didn’t just throw in random instructors. You can tell they really took their time vetting them out. The food was amazing. Drinks as well. The people (guests) were friendly. It just was an overall really good relaxing experience. I didn’t love the showers. It’s just glass with no door so it gets pretty cold in there.

Everything was amazing!

The room was not updated, not decorated at all, I would not consider this a “luxury” spot for the price. While I went for my birthday, other people staying there were also celebrating their birthdays and received a free dessert while I didn’t get anything till I mentioned it to staff. I also wasn’t given an option for a meal plan like others were.

The lobby of the building was gorgeous, staff were very pleasant. The front door staff was always present opening doors and finding us an umbrella when it rained. They also played the part of concierge, providing us with suggestions for dinner and hikes. Both days when we went to the pool, there were no towels and upon asking for some, the staff expressed zero urgency to find any. The complimentary classes on offer will cost you $15 if you signed up and don’t attend. The staff does mention it upon check in, so be wary of those 7 am classes! I also expected there to be hiking trails on the property which I didn’t see (strolling at best). The rooms felt pretty basic and the renovations probably should have included changing out the pocket doors for the bathroom which are difficult to use. Overall, it was a cute place but just didn’t feel like a luxury stay.

Swanky wellness resort that lived up to the hype

The beds were very small. Listed as Queen beds but undoubtedly Full sized beds. They were uncomfortable and not the best to sleep in. The staff and variety of classes were great! The grounds were extremely clean. The flies were overwhelming! They surrounded you at the pool

The property was overpriced, had to call to request housekeeping after our room wasn’t cleaned on the second day. Housekeeper came with a big attitude. Limited menu choices at two dining options on site. During lunch with 3 friends on our last day, restaurant server kept coming to the table and interrupting our conversation - obviously we didn’t need anything. $67.76 “experience” fee charged per day, even if you don’t take any classes. Few are good, some are very corny. Spa is very expensive and most certainly not the best spa experience I’ve had. Finally, they allowed one of my friends to add herself to my room, didn’t take her credit card, so little did I know I had to pay for all of her extras and classes that were charged to the room - which Civana never got my authorization for in advance. Will not return to this resort. Did not end my trip feeling relaxed or reset. Left very annoyed by the waste of money.

I loved the spa & the amenities. The staff there were very attentive & friendly. My message was amazing, Thanks Teri! As before, I love the aesthetic of the room, classes & property. The only issue was I wanted a direct sunlight room. I called & was told I would get a call back about that & didn't. I knew I wouldn’t in the back of my mind & went on to enjoy my stay. The waitress at the bar at Terras seemed a bit annoyed Saturday night. Me & 2 other ladies sat down to eat & drink. I went to the restroom, not sure what happened as I was gone, but I came back to some intense uncomfortable energy. The attitude we were getting was different from the night before. I hope the attitude the 3 of us ladies felt, doesn’t happen to anyone else in a wellness environment. First time any of this has ever happened staying here or going to Terras. Overall, I made the best out of my time & trip to the resort. I think the timing may play a role in when to go.

Loved the classes and that the pools are accessible any time of day. The spa is beautiful and relaxing. The room was great. Cocktails and dinner are great, but don't order dinner before you finish your appetizer or you will get them at the same time. Also, skip the farmers breakfast sandwich; it was barely edible so dry. I definitely got the peace I was needing, just going out for breakfast and dinner next time!

Amenities and food are great. Landscape is so pretty. Room feels old and outdated. Pool was dirty and chairs ripped. Pool side great good. $14 for small mocktail. Classes are so good!

Amazing stay!

The classes were all super well organized, all of the instructors were very knowledgable and made everyone feel welcomed. The staff was very courteous and professional. The two closest towns were quaint, safe, and had very zen vibes to go along with Civana's same atmosphere. The spa was great, the massage was AMAZING and love that with this service you get to enjoy the amenities of the spa all day. Only thing I would like to see would be more food options, dinner was a bit pricey but wonderful tasty healthy food. I would highly recommend Civana for anyone looking to re-charge and re-connect with your best self!

Very modern and spacious rooms. This was a very overvalued resort and its amenities didn’t align with its prices. Very poor spa facilities and the pool was medium sized. The resort would even charge you for the airport shuttle.

For the things I didn't like... The class schedules could have been better as well as the number of participants allowed. If you're going to have a cap then offer the class more than once, maybe a morning and evening option. The food was not the greatest, the only saving grace was breakfast. Lunch and dinner options were not the best in my opinion especially for the price. Luckily, I had a rental car, so I ventured off and grabbed some good food in the surrounding area.

I really enjoyed the wellness classes and the spa area both were relaxing, well-organized, and added so much value to the overall experience. I didn’t appreciate being singled out at the pool for laughing with my group, especially as Black women, when other guests were behaving similarly without issue. It felt unfair and uncomfortable. Additionally, I found the food prices to be quite high. For the cost of staying at the resort, I believe meals should be included or at least more reasonably priced. Some of the staff was unpleasant.

The staff were all phenomenal. The property was beautiful and maintained. The classes were all great in their own ways. Everything is very convenient. I’m all for health and wellness food but I was burning so many calories. I had to uber some sustenance a few times. But there’s plenty nearby. The Seed cafe got me through a lot. No Diet Coke on the property for the record. Otherwise everything bypassed any expectations.

OMG! What an amazing pick this was! After researching multiple resorts I picked Civana since it seemed such a perfect combination of modern elegance, idyllic setting and checked all my boxes - Spa, pool, mountain views and peaceful atmosphere. Civana was all this and more! For a Vegan, this is a haven of delicious smoothies, wraps and desserts that are clean, healthy and mouth watering! Definitely returning with family and friends.

Amazing stay! I went solo for my birthday here. Such a peaceful and special experience that truly felt life changing. It was a great way to start my new chapter of life.

Beautiful place and amenities Random charges on my credit credit card daily that they couldn’t explain. Offered no explanation nor compensation and no apology. The manger was only concerned about obtaining the resort fee.

Went here for a girls weekend, paid $500/night because of all of the classes that were included. They only let you reserve 2 classes prior to arrival, and once you get there most of the classes are full and you can’t add more. Lots of the classes you also have to pay extra for. The pool was filthy, it was obvious nobody was cleaning it regularly. The same bandaids and dead bugs were floating around in it over the 3 days we stayed there. Dirty carpets with stains. Candlelight yoga class didn’t have any candles. Staff was hit or miss. Some of them were exceptional and very kind, others were rude. Would not stay here again at this price point, definitely not worth the money.

The property is gorgeous and the staff are above and beyond. I rated my experience as poor however because so many of the classes cost additional $ on top of the room rental. I've gone there for years and with only a few exceptions the classes are included with the stay. Very dissappointed as this wasn't clear until AFTER I had already made my reservation.

This resort is relaxing with friends or for a quiet solo trip. I recommend it to anyone looking for an escape for well being. All of the classes I attended were well lead. Yoga, weight lifting, feng shui, meditation and the guide lead hike were wonderful. Wish they offered a cooking class! The experience was peaceful.

A special place. The property has everything you could need. The classes were phenomenal and the vibe is amazing.

I took my first solo trip for my birthday here and had an AMAZING time. I met so many different people from all walks of life and learned so much through the classes. I did the spa on my actual birthday and it was the best spa experience I've ever had. I wanted to open myself up to trying new things and this was definitely the place to do that. Staff was kind and the vibes were great. 10/10 would recommend to kick off your new year of life!

Resort was very nice, with clean rooms and we'll appointed areas for guests' use. The food and beverages were amazing and had plenty of healthy options to help you commit to the wellness theme of the stay. Staff was friendly and service was good. Would definitely recommend and likely will return!

The staff was wonderful! The wellness team was knowledgeable and attentive. The spa service was excellent. Our room was decorated minimalist style (I would have preferred abut more warmth to the room) which presented a clean, classy feel. Expensive for the “regular folk” but worth the splurge if you can.

Civana was absolutely wonderful. As soon as you walk in, it smells like Santal 33 which is my favorite cologne. Right then and there, I knew I made the right choice haha! The resort and rooms are impeccably clean and minimalistic. All of the staff were extremely accommodating. Christina and Trish from the spa were spectacular as well. This was a fresh breath of air for me and I can not wait to return.

Absolutely loved our stay here and will be back. Beds are comfortable, daily class options are excellent and varied, staff is incredibly friendly, food at the on-site restaurants is delicious and healthy, and the spa was world class (loved the aquatherapy circuit).

This was the perfect wellness getaway. It was my first time here and I feel very rejuvenated and refreshed after a long year. I came to celebrate my birthday here with another friend and we both loved it so much, we plan to make it an annual getaway. Highly recommend it!

Stayed for a solo vacay for my 35th property is nice very clean an peaceful only issue I had with my room was my bathroom mirror light did not work an no one ever came to fix it after complaint. It’s also very expensive with alot of healthy food if that’s not your palate you’ll want to find other options which I did using DD.

Very much enjoyed my stay at Civana, including taking advantage of classes and the spa. The team members working at Civana were uniformly lovely, welcoming, and hospitable. The room was thoughtfully designed and I enjoyed that there was a balcony; booking a pool view or mountain view is (IMO) worthwhile. I think this is an especially great place for someone trying a wellness spa for the first time to see if they enjoy the experience. I had a car and enjoyed the opportunity to see Carefree and some of its shops and restaurants.

What could have been better for me is the food options. Seed closes at 4pm. If I didn’t plan ahead and purchase 2 things at lunch then I either did not eat or stuck getting something from Terras. Terra’s food is ok I would have liked to get a smoothie from Seed or a sandwich rather than a full meal. I also could have done without the several small groups of women who chose to not respect others nor the quiet area signs. The loud laughter and immaturity displayed is not what I expected from a Wellness Resort. I feel I shouldn’t need to wear my ear pods in the quiet area of the spa to block out the loud and obnoxious conversations. Maybe alcohol should not be served. Most of these women seemed to enjoy the bar. By Sunday the resort was much nicer. The small groups seemed to have left and the serenity that I hoped for was finally present. Would I go there again? Maybe. If I bring my own snacks, remember my air pods and don’t assume everyone knows what “quiet area” means.
