AC Hotel by Marriott Chapel Hill Downtown

We loved staying here when we visited Chapel Hill- The place is convenient to everything and the staff is welcoming. They did a nice job over graduation weekend and made us feel special!

- ( albeit no alcohol purchases after 2 am). Very centrally located for access to downtown restaurants and convenient to UNC Chapel Hill- Go Tarheels!!

Hotel was in an excellent location for our UNC college visit. It is 1 block walk to Franklin Ave where many excellent shops and restaurants are. And walkable to everything on campus. The front desk staff were so friendly and helpful. Very pleasant.

We stayed there because it was the closest hotel to UNC medical center, my son G was fighting for his life. The gentleman that checked us in the first night was amazing. He made sure we received excellent service from the moment we arrived. He even let my son L and I borrow 2 umbrellas one day for the unexpected rain. I will have to return to UNC medical center i look forward in staying at this hotel. I only wish I could remember this young Latinos name, he was marvelous. Nothing to complain about....

It's a very nice hotel--clean, well run, great security, very helpful staff. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it lacked luxurious touches. No bathrobes, linoleum floors in the rooms instead of carpet, the breakfast was expensive ($16.95 buffet) but very basic. But if we go back to Chapel Hill we will definitely stay there.

The location was fabulous, but with that comes noise from Franklin Street, as is to be expected. There should be a sound machine in the room since it’s obvious the hotel can’t do anything about outside noise.

If they are, a nice little sign would be helpful. If breakfast was included with the room fee, I would have given a 10/10 score. The breakfast rate was too high to expense when local businesses are much cheaper, but if it was included with the room then it would have been a no brainer.

A large and rude High school group was there. Not the hotels fault but lessened our enjoyment.

The front desk staff were courteous and helpful. The hotel is located well and beautifully maintained. Biggest “Ding” for us was thin thin room doors meaning we heard every noise in the hallway when we were trying to grab a catnap.

The front desk was so courteous and kind. Each and every one of them! I’m so thankful and appreciative. Angela, who runs the lounge bar, was superb! I can’t say enough good things about her. If she reads this, THANK YOU!

There were ants in my room and having a room along the street with the bar, was not helpful to a good night sleep. Feel as though I was asked on checkin whether that was an issue. Didn’t think of it this time nor was asked. It was loud all night, until midnight at least.

Only two negatives were that the bed is very hard and uncomfortable and we ordered a charcuterie board from the bar to take to our room and they through some toast and cold cuts in a container with fruit and some terrible cheese. It was awful and I couldn't believe they served that.

The front desk charged me $25/night for parking without asking. She just took my card for "liabilities" and then handed me a parking pass. Only to find a $75 charge on my card upon returning from my trip. Overall nice but that felt sneaky. I would have liked the option not chosen for me.

Feels like 2nd home

Staff, lobby and cleanliness were good. Only problem (and it was a big one) is our room was directly across from a bar that was packed with college students and played music until 2AM. I even had ear plugs and it did not drown out the noise. We asked to be moved but were told there were no available rooms. Everything else was great; however, that was so unacceptable that we will not be staying there again. We paid for a place to sleep and were not provided that. They did comp breakfast and parking which was something.

Chapel Hill specifically Franklin Street is disgusting due to the aggressive panhandling. The hotel is nice but it is in the middle of an unsafe area. There for 2 days and did not see one cop car.

Breakfast buffet appears okay but certainly not at European standards....but trying to order a la carte, though on the menu, is trying. Oatmeal on day2 was excellent, whereas on day3 it was terrible: the restaurant host was rather unconvincing in her "apology" and offered me nothing as compensation.

The breakfast situation needs improvement in terms of staff/service/presentation & guest facing "friendliness"

The hotel is centrally located. Room are clean and comfortable. It got a little warm during the night even though we lowered the temperature of the a/c.

The people who worked the reception were exceptionally friendly, especially FaLinda. She set the bar high for other hotels that I will go to.😊

The hotel was done really nicely. The room was really clean and spacious. There was a nice coffee bar downstairs in the morning. There wasn’t any lotion in the room, but they might’ve had some if I asked.

The price was reasonable and staff super friendly.

Extremely nice staff from beginning to end of stay. Unfortunately I had little help in contacting the hotel directly. I ended up using Expedia. DO NOT BUY CANCELLATION INSURANCE.with Expedia. A true rip off. One negative is there is no free parking like other high end hotels close in.

The staff was fantastic - very friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is in a nice area that was walkable to shops and restaurants as well as a slightly longer but very manageable walk to the UNC Chapel Hill campus. Hotel was very comfortable and clean.

The hotel was nice and the staff were great. The bartender, Angela was especially friendly. The room was clean, however, on our last day we saw a bug. I don't think it was a bed bug but that was a little disappointing. Overall though the hotel was clean and well kept. I would recommend the hotel and stay again.

We had an issue with the lights when we first got in our room. We knew about the main switch but it wasn’t the issue. They seemed to have a short in them because they eventually came on when we weren’t touching the light switch. It was a weird start. Then to noise of the AC unit. It rattled and whined intermittently. The whole return would vibrate. I resorted to turning it off completely and then restarted it when absolutely necessary. Next, my son’s sheets had maybe a 4” V shaped tear in them. He didn’t want to deal with them coming in to replace the sheets so I let them know about it when we left so they would hopefully not reuse them again. Overall, the place felt unkept. My son asked me, “what happened to this place, it was so nice before?” The upside is that it has a decent gym and it’s walkable to the campus and to any restaurant on Franklin. Also, I liked the shower set up. Those are the perks.

Great stay for UNC-Duke weekend-except for game outcome haha. Loved the balloon display downstairs. Front desk folks were wonderful.

When we checked in, I didn’t like fumbling around in the dark trying to find the lamp switches; they weren’t in the usual places on lamps.

The property is very nice enough if a bit spartan and generally is in a good location. However, it is across the street from a student bar and on Saturday from 12:30 to 2:00 am the music and patrons were SO LOUD that it woke all of us (we had three different rooms) and kept us awake for that hour and a half in the middle of the night. The hotel is quite expensive for what it offers and should not subject its patrons to this interruption.

The hotel is great and very convenient to everything (don’t need a car). It is next door to a great local bar that can get loud at night, but that’s part of the fun! Highly recommended!!!! Tons of restaurants around, Target a block away, for last minute items! Can’t beat it!!

Newer hotel within walking distance to Franklin St. We got the last room with two beds and because it was on the main floor we were comped our $25 parking.

Check in was handled by an exceptional employee…her name escapes me! She was great though and made us feel very welcomed! Only bad thing was the shower didn’t drain well and water pressure was super low…other than that everything was great!!!

The staff is always so nice! Even in the middle of a snow storm in the south, they made a point to accommodate all of our needs.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Chapel Hill area. We moved my son in to his apartment before his semester at UNC. It was clean, staff was amazing, nice continental breakfast included the next morning! Overall wonderful experience.

We love this place. This was our second visit and we will return. We have been in any possible hotel in the area, and this is now our absolute favorite.
