Reviews
The Palmer House Hilton in Chicago is a historic hotel with a beautiful lobby and convenient location, but some guests have reported issues with cleanliness and hidden fees. The staff is generally friendly and helpful, but some guests have had negative experiences with specific employees.
- Historic hotel with beautiful lobby
- Convenient location near major attractions
- Issues with cleanliness in some rooms
- Hidden fees and unexpected charges
- 5/5
Wonderful place. Will stay there again.
- 3/5
The staff were all very professional and nice from the valet parking, registration, etc. We got a King Size bedroom. We were offered a better option for additional amount but declined. It was one of the older non renovated rooms and I am with, in preserving the character but the closet door handle doesn’t even work. It has the smallest bathroom and won’t fit two people at the same time. The size of the bedroom is good. The mattress is obviously old and hasn’t been changed in ages. The mid section of the bed is angled to the center. It’s a good thing we were only there for one night.
- 5/5
Excellent hotel, feels like stepping into the romantic version of the past!
- 3/5
Overall the hotel was very clean and the staff were excellent. The only issue I had was how outdated the rooms were, and the layout of the room itself. The TV being off to the side not facing the beds threw me off. The room was somewhat clean, but we did have to change rooms once because the first room did have a strange scent when we first arrived.
- 5/5
Clean room, helpful staff
- 4/5
We were a bit tired when we arrived. Navigating the building was my one issue. Somewhat hard to find registration and then It seems that we had to walk across a dining area to get to the elevators. I felt a little anxious about finding my way out in an emergency.
- 5/5
My kids enjoyed the pool. Breakfast was outstanding. To be honest, this hotel had so many extras we didn’t use. But that’s just our situation. The proximity to everything Chicago had to offer was the main benefit.
- 5/5
The two bedroom suite was excellent. Fantastic, centralized location and such a wonderful property.
- 5/5
GREAT!
- 5/5
Wonderful! Stay here. Classy and location is amazing. Parking is hard to find but good to include in the stay. No issues.
- 5/5
Staff was helpful
- 5/5
The property is good. Has not been updated in a while but it is in a central location.
- 3/5
The public areas are beautiful. Staff was outgoing, engaging and helpful. The room we had was in dire need of TLC. Bathroom especially: broken fan that was ready to fall, rusty door frame, shower head that looked to be an afterthought and shower curtain doesnt prevent water from leaking (which is probably why the door frame is rusting)
- 5/5
It was good but the rooms need a bit of renovation . The experience from check out to check out was smooth. Breakfast was tasty 😋 will be back soon
- 5/5
The breakfast was good. Room was comfortable. Could of used a coffee maker in the room. Still waiting for a receipt for my stay
- 4/5
Get a bigger breakfast venue. Dont add on that BS $25 charge for stuff no one will use.
- 4/5
The daily credit for food & spa was really nice. The gym is an amazing, nearly full sized workout area. There are locker rooms with a HOT sauna in each. The room was your average hotel room (king bed - accessible), nothing super unique about it, but it was spacious enough to not feel claustrophobic.
- 3/5
Lots of history to this hotel. Good location
- 5/5
Parking can be charged to room
- 4/5
Pleasant and friendly staff

Check in was horrible. The longest lines you can imagine….face me 250 Hilton points….not useful for me. Property is beautiful if you look closely but it is not well maintained.
- 3/5
The historic property is located downtown Chicago, walkable from the Loop/metro, to Millennial park, River walk. The Art Museum. But Yiao!! I had a big miscommunication with Expedia. The room turned out to be $750 a night with costs and fees. And did not include breakfast. I don’t know how I missed that the nightly rate was so exorbitant when booking. And really, the room was nothing special, clean but nothing luxurious. I almost had a heart attack when we checked in and learned of the price. But I was over a barrel as there was no where else to stay. I’ll be very very careful from now on when booking with Expedia.
- 5/5
Beautiful place, staff very helpful and friendly!!! Location is great !!!
- 4/5
in room coffee service was a bit of a disappointment. it was hard to get pods for the coffee maker.
- 2/5
This is the second and the last time I stay at the Palmer. I like the proximity to certain landmarks and the beds were comfy but other than that, the bathroom wasn't clean, there was a lot of hair in the tub, the shower faucet handle was filled with black scum on the inside. There was also a piece undone metal on the bottom of the vanity that scraped my kid's foot. There was no complimentary coffee/tea which added to the disappointment. I was too tired to ask for a different room with 2 kids and having to repack the bags.
- 5/5
The staff and hotel were good and reasonably helpful. Through out my stay, I had no complaints whatsoever. Will definitely recommend this hotel
- 5/5
Step back into time. With modern amenities, a great gym, good food and proximity to the red line, this will be my go to hotel for baseball games
- 5/5
Beautiful facility with extremely helpful staff in a wonderful location. We will be back.
- 5/5
Good location to leave car parked and walk everywhere. Safe area.
- 5/5
Traveling with my adult son, I had a very large room with 2 queen beds & 2 separate, complete bathrooms! A 2 bathroom hotel room is pretty amazing. Shower heads were unique. Walking closets were a surprise.
- 5/5
Great amenities at the hotel. For after hours there is tacos, pizza, dunkin n a 7/11 at the corner open very late. Walking distance to Grant Park. Recommend
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel
- 5/5
Beautiful facility! Room was perfect for what we needed it for. Staff were very helpful when we asked for anything
- 2/5
I have stayed at the Palmer House multiple times in the past, and I was surprised how poorly it has been maintained. The lobby is still beautiful, but the floors and the rooms are shabby and dirty. Our bathroom was filthy. It needs a renovation and a deep cleaning.
- 5/5
We loved staying at Palmer. It was centrally located for all of our excursions! Staff were. great and room was clean. It was a beautiful place. Highly recommend.
- 5/5
The low ceilings in the hallway.
- 5/5
Beautiful place to stay.
- 4/5
It is a beautiful place. The staff is great. The bed was awful. Hard mattress and just a thin comforter and sheets on the bed. Pillows were not especially soft.
- 4/5
Loved the historic architecture and interior. It's well maintained and the staff was very helpful. The location is great too.
- 5/5
Needed a better mattress. It was worn with dips on each side.
- 3/5
The hotel is beautiful but the amount paid did not match the amenities. First, no robe or slippers in the room. Then, everything is automated and it was almost impossible to order room service or speak to an actual person. Once I managed to order room service, two cups of tea and some juice, I was horrified that they were delivered to my room in to-go cups in a brown bag rather than in china on a tray. And the tea was not even made. (The cups were filled with hot water and packaged tea bags were just tucked in the brown bag.) There should be a coffee station in the room, but barring that, room service should be pleasant and match the cost. The public restrooms were not well kept, either. I was very surprised. The staff were lovely, but I will not go back.
- 5/5
very beautiful hotel, clean and organized, super sweet and helpful staff
- 4/5
Everything was great until check out when trying to get to check out and elevator was full and took forever to get on but otherwise everything was great. It is absolutely beautiful!
- 4.5/5
I appreciate the historical part of the building and the Beauty that you only get with a building that old. Also, the location was excellent both in regards to getting to places and the subway.
- 3/5
At check-out, we were disappointed because the clerk could not assign us Hilton Honor Points to us even though my husband is a HH member but I made the reservation and I am not a HH member. Really!?! Not an example of friendly service!
- 5/5
Beautiful facility
- 5/5
The room was clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good with wide selection of food. Bar service was good and convenient. Parking was secure and easily accessible.
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
Excellent guest service. Quick check in despite the line. Very clean room. Wonderful house keeping. Lockwood Restaurant and bar service was mediocre. Fortunately there are plenty of restaurants near by.
- 5/5
This is a grand old hotel. The staff was friendly and very helpful.
- 5/5
Love going to this historic hotel, a gorgeous throwback in time. Lobby area amazing, had a great martini cocktail at the bar. Huge workout area. Walkable distance to Soldier Field for a concert.
- 5/5
What a beautiful, well-maintained, iconic hotel. The room was spacious, such a comfortable bed, excellent bar area. Will be back!
- 4.5/5
Service was exception, everyone was so friendly and accomodating: Front Desk, Bell Hop, Bar Servers, etc. The prices were high...$30 for a glass of wine!
- 2.5/5
The front desk employee was not helpful and the hotel doesn’t seem clean
- 4.5/5
Both room and location were excellent I did not like the breakfast arrangement. Instead of the usual "a la carte" self service, we had a waiter service. It was a little longer and less convinion foe people who did noy havd much time and would rather grab a breakfast and go.
- 5/5
Old style luxury hotel doesn’t disappoint. Great food, friendly staff and comfortable rooms.
- 5/5
Hotel is massive. But very conveniently located for food, shopping, theater and public transport. Staff were amazing!!
- 5/5
Clean room, great location, extra friendly dtaff
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel , we had a wonderful stay
- 4/5
Beautiful old hotel in a great neighborhood close to so much. The room was set up strangely with a giant piece furniture blocking the entrance to the bathroom. You needed to turn sideways to sneak past the bed to reach the toilet. Photos below. Also it’s such a big hotel that you’re working through crowds to check in and out and to get where you’re going.
- 5/5
The Palmer House is the ONLY place I will stay when I am in Chicago. I absolutely love the history, the decor, the employees. It has the feeling of being home. It is the type of place where it is welcoming and yet elegant.
- 4/5
Me parecio super bien las instaciones exelente
- 5/5
Beautiful venue with excellent options both inside and outside of the hotel for dining options. One of the most beautiful lobbies I've ever seen. Worth the stay.
- 5/5
My favorite place to stay!
- 5/5
Staff was friendly, and we had a nice stay.
- 5/5
Was so fun staying in such a historic icon!
- 5/5
Great staff, food great, room great will return again.
- 5/5
Great
- 3/5
We booked a suite, there is so much unused space it seems somewhat sad. the living room furnishings are not that comfortable, there was a huge dining room table, that i cannot imagine many use. It could just use a refresh to be more useful to modern day travelers.
- 5/5
Beautiful, clean, spacious N/A
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, staff friendly. Expensive
- 3/5
Just an old outdated hotel you know what you’re getting water pressure was a little low. Paint was cracked.
- 5/5
The best thing for me about the Palmer House Hotel is its location just steps from the Red Line El Monroe station and only a block from the Blue Line Monroe station that goes to O'Hare Airport. It is one block from a large, convenient Target, a spectacular Macy's in the old Marshall Fields building and a block from the Art Institute Museum and another block to Milleneum Park (with the "bean" sculpture). Great theaters, restaurants and sites right out the door, and a Starbucks and easy menu order/pickup store with all kinds of quick pickup options all located just steps out of the elevator. This is a convenient, lovely, interesting hotel that is my first choice when staying in the "loop" in downtown Chicago. You don't really have to even leave the hotel to have an interesting array of things to see (the ceiling in the main dining/lobby area is stunning. And, the spa is great.
- 3/5
Nice historic venue. Rooms were a little musty and bathroom could have been fresher. The lobby was great.
- 4/5
Perfect location, especially if you go to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for a night. Beautiful building and the main floor lobby/bar areas. Night clean room. Mattress was ok. The staff can be a bit warmer.
- 5/5
Everything was great however there weren’t any vending machines to get a soda at night.
- 5/5
Great central location. Close to restaurants, museums, parks, lakefront and a historic cigar shop!
- 5/5
The Palmer House has an elegant charm that you feel as soon as you walk into the main lobby. You just want to sit and admire the beauty of this hotel. I loved the whole experience of my stay. I will definitely be going back to the Palmer House.
- 5/5
Grand historic property, conveniently located. Opted for a larger deluxe room, which was a good value. Bathrooms are small bull well appointed. Only critique was daily supplemental activity charge, which was not expected and not a great value.
- 5/5
Fabulous!
- 5/5
The customer service is fantastic. I love the atmosphere; it's friendly and upbeat. The food and drinks are amazing. Highly recommend.
- 5/5
Beaux art beauty in downtown Chicago, walkable from Union Station and close to everything. History, charm, great for a weekend stay.
- 2/5
the place is outdated and not well maintained. certainly does not deserve more than 2 Stars. the location is excellent and staff was helpful. But, place is not clean, bathroom was very tight. I paid for an update because standard rooms were so small. But the carpet does not have a clean look, walls are old and bathroom is very suboptimal. No coffee machine in the room, but when I complained about it they stated it was available upon request and they sent me one. essentially, very overpriced for what you get.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel
- 3/5
Rooms are old and bathrooms are tiny and not well maintained
- 5/5
Had a quick visit. Lovely charming historic hotel close to all the great Chicago attractions.
- 4.5/5
Wonderful bed and linens. Commode didn't flush.
- 5/5
The room we recently stayed in was beautiful! We were surprised with a suite and so much room to enjoy.
- 2.5/5
The sheets were very uncomfortable and loud, the comforter was very crinkly. Also, there was a water leak in our bathroom in the middle of the night. The room smelled like mildew as well. We would come back to hang out in the lobby bar but we would not stay at the hotel. For the price we paid for the room, we did not find it worth the money.
- 5/5
Staff is awesome
- 3/5
the room was wack and where the toiletries at girl
- 5/5
The hotel is beautiful. The room was clean and furnishings newer. There are a lot of rooms so you could be placed far away from the elevator. For us that was not an issue but I could see it being so for others.
- 4/5
Rooms are small
- 5/5
I didn't eat at restaurant just coffee shop. Good .
- 5/5
Hidden gem in the theatre district. Great decor, restaurant and bar on site is great. Large, clean, comfortable rooms. Walking distance to everything you need. Definitely recommend
- 4/5
Bellmen were lovely and the location is terrific
- 4/5
The hotel is in a convenient location and in overall good condition. The hotel could us a refresh as a lot of the furnishings are dated.
- 5/5
It had all we needed and more!
- 5/5
Staff was very friendly.
- 4/5
It was beautiful, quiet, safe. Loved the deep tub Customer service could have been better, I had no explanation on parking. Parking is across the street in a parking garage, they wont let you check in up front and then park because that is a valet area. So we had to walk across the street to get our stuff and bring it to the car, it was a long walk.
- 5/5
Very cool historical hotel,
- 2.5/5
Single ply toilet paper. No free amenities including bottled water, coffee in the room and no comfortable reading chair or lighting!
- 5/5
We had a wonderful stay. Enjoyed breakfast at the hotel, with wonderful, attentive staff.
- 5/5
Phenomenal fitness center! Wonderful staff.
- 5/5
Beautiful N/A
- 5/5
Perfect place. Reasonably priced.
- 5/5
The facility was amazing! Very classy. The staff were very friendly.
- 5/5
Second time staying here for a business event. Great Property and location. Clean rooms and housekeeping was so nice when walking in the halls. Starbucks is a bonus on-site.
- 3/5
The room felt musty and dated.
- 5/5
The hotel lobby is incredible! We’ve stayed twice and really enjoyed it both times! Highly recommend!
- 5/5
Clean room! Enjoyed the entertainment on Saturday evening! This property will definitely be my choice to stay the next time I’m in Chicago!
- 5/5
We loved our room! It was very large and clean and comfortable. I didn't like the sales pitch in the lobby, which sounded like a good deal for a future stay but was actually a time share pitch.
- 5/5
It is a charming, historic hotel—steeped in history and elegance at every turn. It features lovely, comfortable rooms and a truly spectacular spa complete with a pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, and gym—offering more amenities than other, more expensive, and modern hotels in the same city. Its restaurants are excellent, serving delicious food at reasonable prices, and the service is the best in the world—remarkably fast and attentive. But the absolute highlight was the kindness and exceptional treatment we received from the entire staff, and especially from: our waiter, Luis—a polite, friendly, and attentive young man who was so delightful that he even played the piano in the main lounge just for us; and the restaurant manager—also named Luis—who was incredibly helpful in introducing us to the front desk manager, Luke. Luke was fantastic, going out of his way to help us secure a nicer room with a view of the city. As you can imagine, we fell completely in love with the hotel—and, above all, with its people: the wonderful individuals who work there. If I had to point out anything, it would be the height of the toilets—they are a bit low—and perhaps their lids, which ideally should be soft-closing. My wife also mentioned that she felt a spring on her side of the mattress that made her feel a little uncomfortable; personally, however, I loved the mattress, the sheets, and the pillows. Nevertheless, it would be beneficial for the hotel staff to periodically check these details to ensure they continue to uphold the high standards that this magnificent hotel already possesses.
- 5/5
The hotel main lobby is so beautiful! The pool was great and warm for the cold weather. Everything is walking distance.
- 5/5
Bar area was great!
- 4/5
All the staff we encountered were very friendly and most helpful. The pillows were really comfortable. Had to wait a while for the water in the shower to get warm, and the high pressure coming through the small shower head holes hurt your skin when it hit you. Other than that, good stay.
- 3/5
This hotel was nice and priced appropriately... after my stay they charged a bunch of random stuff to my card. One was a "destination fee" ( I already paid this through hotels.com) that they said I was notified about but it wasn't stated anywhere.
- 5/5
It is not understood why whomever leases this property has not filled the street floor with tenants, who have at least 1,000 guests of the Palmer House as possible customers EVERY day.
- 5/5
No food amenities at all.
- 4/5
Na
- 4/5
Beautiful hotel. Rooms need a revamp.
- 5/5
clean rooms
- 3.5/5
The rooms were hot and water stayed cold. Parking is not included and very expensive. I also felt like we were nickel and dimed for everything.
- 5/5
Our room was very comfortable. The beds and pillows were very nice
- 5/5
Everything was excellent. The room was nice, staff was extra friendly, plenty of places within walking distance.
- 4/5
All in all, it was an excellent experience with the exception of the water pressure. The hot water pressure was absolutely horrible.
- 5/5
I absolutely loved my stay at the Palmer Hotel and definitely book next year again for The Great Lace event. The service was very cordial, my room was ready before check in, and I received a few complimentary snacks and amenities. I will say the only thing that would give me pause is the WiFi technically cost money (I received a promotion code this time) and the little fridge with drinks and snacks are classified as a mini bar so you will have to pay for these items. Besides those two things, I can easily see this becoming one of my favorite spots to stay when I visit Chicago.
- 5/5
Nice staff
- 5/5
Good
- 4/5
Beautiful property
- 5/5
Very nice place and the employees
- 5/5
Gorgeous historical location with lots of amenities and attentive staff. Really look forward to my next visit
- 5/5
Great staff
- 4.5/5
I loved the old fashioned look and the staff they were very friendly and helpful. I didn’t like that parking was not included for the price and the fact that we had to travel outside of the hotel to get back to the car.
- 5/5
Outstanding hotel
- 5/5
The staff were great!
- 5/5
We had an amazing three days in downtown Chicago and the Palmer House. Hilton was at the center of everything. We got to see Hamilton, which is literally right across the street from the Palmer house and garage parking was conveniently located across the street on Wabash. I booked it through SpotHero, three days ran us about $60. The hotel is gorgeous. The rooms are immaculate. We had a fantastic time. Oh!!! And they have a spa!! Facials were perfection and the pool was refreshing after a long day of walking
- 5/5
This is the second time I’ve stayed at the Palmer and I’ve loved it both times. Everything about the Palmer is top notch
- 5/5
Very nice hotel in the heart of downtown!
- 5/5
Beautiful property, great resturant on site, an the pool and spa was amazing.
- 5/5
I always enjoy staying at this historic hotel. The past lives comfortably with the present.
- 4/5
Great lobby. Rest of hotel and room could use a facelift. Elevator wait is long.
- 3/5
It was okay
- 5/5
This place was so beautiful, and so much fun to explore! The staff was very kind. Transportation, dining, shopping, it was a great place to stay
- 2/5
I was expecting coffee or hot water dispenser in room but no and there’s no complimentary water either.
- 5/5
We had a great stay and the staff are very friendly and accommodating.
- 4/5
Beautiful building and fun lounge. Great gym but the sauna and pool are only open until 9. Rooms are nice but small.
- 4/5
Just keep the curtains closed.
- 5/5
Clean rooms, great staff, great amenities. Next to the loop and the red line. In the heart of downtown Chicago, very historic and beautiful.
- 3/5
Gorgeous lobby but packed with people and very loud. Room was extremely spacious but needed a fresh coat of paint. Bathrooms were small. Water pressure was low and bath towels were poor quality.
- 5/5
All good
- 4/5
The property is friendly. Awesome location and lobby.
- 5/5
The lobby was abuzz with people and music and amazing and aesthetic drinks. A wonderful place to stay during the holidays!
- 4/5
Nice hotel great location
- 5/5
Good stay! Great staff!
- 5/5
Couldn’t ask for better service and hospitality. Only wish is that the tub was larger, but it is standard sized
- 5/5
Clean rooms great staff, beautiful and elegant facilities
- 5/5
The Oldest Hotel in Chicago is also the Most Spectacular! Excellent ambience, amenities & spotless/quiet rooms. The Pool/Spa/Fitness area on the 8th floor is always very clean as well.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel with exceptional service.
- 5/5
The check-in staff was really nice. He offered an upgrade for $40/night. It was an awesome upgrade with 2 bathrooms and twice bigger than our original room. The hotel was also really close to the PH Consulate, which was the main reason of this travel. Whole place was clean and everyone was really nice.
- 4/5
Beautiful old hotel.
- 2/5
The $25 resort fee felt like an unnecessary add-on rather than delivering real value. Despite being a Hilton member, the membership benefits appeared to carry little weight at this historic property. It seems the hotel is relying primarily on its name and legacy while neglecting needed maintenance and updates. I will be avoiding this property in the future and left very disappointed with the experience.
- 5/5
Everything was great
- 2/5
All expenses are not expressed when booking online. The front desk stated the parking was comp’d and they billed me for it, and I never received my security deposit back from my card.
- 5/5
I loved the hotel. Great Amenities, beautiful room. The fitness and pool along with the spot was more than expected
- 5/5
Clean room , hotel was absolutely beautiful! Location wise it is a little crowded and traffic was a little frustrating but that’s to be expected as we visited for valentine’s day.
- 5/5
Lobby of course is magnificent
- 5/5
Classic older and well maintained hotel.
- 5/5
.
- 1/5
I left my wallet in the hotel room and never had room service or housekeeping but on one night I did ask for them to send someone up with extra toiletries. They stole my credit card from my wallet and ran up $1000 in charges
- 1/5
Room wasn’t cleaned. Waited in the lobby til
- 5/5

- 1/5
Yes
- 5/5
staff and facility was beautiful
- 5/5
Room was clean and comfortable. Every staff member was kind and helpful. The entire weekend was wonderful. I highly recommend the Palmer House for your stay in Chicago.
- 3/5
It was okay, wasn't all that!! If you want valet, They only let certain people get valet, when it should be for everyone. Made me very upset!! I thought i would get valet parking there and they wouldn't give it to me. James in valet argued with me about it!! Rayan texted me asked if i needed anything and never helped me at all after i told him i needed help!! Not happy with my stay here at all
- 5/5
Very courteous staff everywhere. Hotel is exceptionally clean & has a wonderful scent pumped through the common areas. Rooms are a great blend of new tech & old fashioned charm. Pool & Fitness Center are impressive. My favorite hotel in Chicago by far!!
- 5/5
Amazing
- 5/5
We loved our stay! Great breakfast and clean, updated rooms (we stayed in a premium room). We loved being so close to state street and exploring this historical gem!
- 4/5
They were very accommodating.
- 1/5
Had no hot water on our 5 day stay. Not even a little warm. Freezing cold water.
- 3/5
Rooms are very outdated and not the cleanest, staff overall friendly, food good but vey pricey. Your paying for the experience and location not the rooms.
- 3/5
The room is very small and outdated. The bathroom is even worse. Very low water pressure. U can hear every single thing from neighbors even snoring and things we should not of heard. The room got soo hot even with heater off. I would not stay here again. Beautiful lobby and thats it.
- 4/5
Housekeeping staff was great
- 4/5
Very cool historic hotel. Stunning lobby, great customer service…the rooms and hallways etc are just a bit too dated. It could use some renovation.
- 5/5
Service, history,
- 5/5
The character of this hotel is outstanding. The lobby bar feels historic. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!
- 4/5
Clean room, nice size. Housekeeping staff in particular were very nice and helpful. No coffee maker in the room, hence 4 vs 5 stars.
- 4/5
Everything was GREAT i.e. doorman when we arrived, unloaded luggage then brought it to our room, the TV was on with “Welcome KIM” on screen, sent me text to verify all was satisfactory, and soon. BIG NEGATIVE…every time we wanted something (soda, meds, food, ice cream) we would go to main lobby to get it and the place would be closed!! Even when according to their hours they should’ve been open.No bueno.
- 4/5
Very clean and nice for an old historic hotel. Amenities are lacking though. Not even a coffee maker in room. Otherwise very nice hotel not too far from food and sights.
- 5/5
Clean room, checking in was super easy. Hotel is beautiful and so classy.
- 5/5
Hotel and staff was great. Great location. Just wish more elevators worked because it was a huge audition festival and elevator situation was dire.
- 5/5
Clean- concierge and front desk staff was great. Beds and pillows were super comfy. Great stay!
- 5/5
As always, excellent stay! We upgraded & got a 2 bathroom room & an extra cot! perfect! very clean room & comfortable bed!
- 3/5
Beautiful hotel, and friendly staff. Room was not worth an upgrade charge, the shower Basin was broken and didn't drain.
- 5/5
Met expectations.
- 4/5
Plenty of lighting in our room. Clean bathroom. Comfortable bed. Nice linens. TV channel choices were good. Lockwood was delicious!
- 1/5
There was no shampoo or shower gel in the room. The room was dirty and smelled terrible. I tried to call the reception, but no one answered. I definitely wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.
- 3/5
Place was great! Except the bar that’s connected to the property. Worst service I’ve ever received. It’s a shame. Such a nice hotel with a terrible bar/staff connected to it!
- 4/5
Our first stay at Palmer house was a very welcoming experience. The location in downtown Chicago made everything along Michigan ave and surrounding sights easily accessible. The multiple entries were super helpful while walking around and navigating the cold (polar vortex). Ride share and even DoorDash deliveries were easy. The resturant offered a delightful breakfast and complimentary menu. Rooms and heating were a little outdated but would definitely visit again.

Besides the ambience and location of this gorgeous hotel... we enjoyed winding down the evening with a drink and Bertha's brownie in the lobby/lounge.
- 5/5
Very close to Arts Institute and CSO. Helpful staff. Very good SPA + fitness + pool.
- 4/5
Clean, attractive classic looking room and bathroom.
- 5/5
Best hotel in Chicago
- 5/5
Great staff, nice pool and big room!
- 5/5
Everything was just perfect
- 4/5
The spa was relaxing however the couples massage was two rooms with doors in between open which made it not feel quite as cozy as a typical couples massage. The room was tiny and very outdated. We were surprised by the condition of the bathroom tiles and wallpaper. Every time we opened or closed the closet door, it hit the desk. The walls were not very insulated as we could hear people in the hallway very clearly. The location was perfect as we had seen a play at the Cadillac Palace Theater and were within walking distance.
- 5/5
This stay was perfection from beginning to end. Totally wonderful experience in every way.
- 1/5
Was attacked by two men and a woman who broke down our hotel room door and then was harassed by the Director of Security, who tried to coerce me into not calling the police
- 4/5
Room was very clean and staff was great
- 5/5
What stood out from Palmers house hotel for me was how spacious the rooms were! I got a 2 bed for 4 guests and we all fit perfectly with luggage and all , everyone accommodated easily :)
- 3/5
The Lobby is gorgeous but this stay the room seemed really run down. The beds are tiny, two full size beds. Our bathroom was tiny, not very clean and in desperate need of a good update. There were toothpaste splatters on the wall and mirrors frame and other unknown dirty splatter spots lower on the walls. Just gross. The room itself was fairly large but other than the desk chair not a place to sit. The size of the room could have easily accommodated a pair of chairs or a couch. Even a bench at the end of the bed would have been helpful. We have stayed at this property many times but will likely not return. Too run down
- 4/5
Interior doors joining adjacent rooms need better soundproofing.
- 4/5
Room was clean bathroom was dated. Pubic hair from the last guest on the bathroom floor was not welcomed especially after a one hour check in process.
- 5/5
Great staff, beautiful hotel decorated so nice for the holidays. We had a wonderful time.
- 5/5
Thank you

Room was clean bathroom was dated. Also pubic hair from the last guest on the bathroom floor which was not great after the 1 hour check in process. Not to mention the additional charges added to my bill.

The room was great, we stayed for three nights right before Christmas, the lobby was beautiful, all the staff were friendly and helpful. The gym was standout, fully equipped and spacious, spread across two levels. Very good experience, would stay again!
- 5/5
The hotel room was so quaint and comfortable, brought memories back to my previous day

We loved the restaurant staff and options. Mrs. Rose and Tony.
- 5/5
The hotel restaurant was delicious

Everything was okay except for the bath and sink water was coming out a little brown when you first cut it on
- 5/5
Dolores was incredible and our room was gorgeous!

ok except for toilet issues this morning with presssure and flushing.

Easy Peasy. Beautiful hotel at a great price.

Amazing building, and very well kept. The staff was great to us, very helpful.

Staff was great. Christmas decor was amazing.
- 5/5
Good service
- 1/5
To their credit, they offered to switch rooms. But at this point, it was nearly 10 pm and since I was traveling with young children, I declined. Which brings me to another point. I wouldn’t consider this a “family friendly” property in the slightest. Whole situation was a shame - my family and I were really excited about staying here
- 5/5
The service at the front desk!
- 3/5
No hand soap in our room, shower curtain was filthy and there were clothes from a previous giuest in the bureau. Reprehensible.
- 4/5
Front desk staff, housekeeping, bellhops were all exceptional. Bar lobby staff were horrible. Slow and rude. That’s the reason for 4 stars instead of 5.
- 5/5
Loved my stay at the Palmer House, great location just a couple blocks from Millennium Park. The room was clean and the service was good. Overall, a pleasant stay:)
- 5/5
Excellent stay, we loved it
- 5/5
The best Holiday experience for family with clean, elegant looking and warm swimming pool, dry sauna and perfect room for couples. Stunning and outstanding lobby with delicous food served during breakfast and dinner with cozy ambiance and elite christmas tree. To put cherry on top, people are accommodating and kind. it was an amazing experience. Thank you !
- 5/5
The lobby is a beautiful place to sit at Christmas time
- 5/5
Room is gorgeous!!
- 5/5
Great place
- 5/5
Very beautiful a must see.
- 5/5
Everyone generous and happy which is a plus. Ahmed at the lobby bar especially stood out and we’re looking forward to coming back ‘home’ very soon. This will be our regular stop!
- 5/5
Clean rooms, extremely friendly staff, onsite Starbucks, Lockwood restaurant was amazing, beautiful gathering area in the lounge. Close to all the Christmas must do’s. Decorated so so beautifully for Christmas!
- 5/5
Room is comfortable and clean. It is nice to stay at a historical site
- 4/5
Decent room and the staff at the front desk and restaurant were friendly and helpful. The front desk area is cramped and confusing (i.e.) once you get your key card from check-in, it is so tight in that area that that it’s unclear how you get out of the area without pushing past the people in line behind you.
- 4/5
Staffs are responsive to issues quickly.
- 3/5
Romm was in good condition, amenities were non existent and the staff was helpful. We stayed omlh fof the historic atmosphere and probably will not be staying again due to the lack of any amenities that can be found elsewhere that are not expensive. Overall the stay was pleasant.

It was lovely and very festive!

If you’re looking for a deluxe room; reserve a premium. There is nothing deluxe about the deluxe.
- 5/5
It was the weekend before Christmas 12-20-25. Everything was really nice. The only negative thing that I would have to say about the overall stay was that the bar service was slow and that the pool was on the smaller side other than that everything was perfect!
- 1/5
Worst hotel experience ever! Local one night stay for holidays and totally regret booking here. Paid with pleasure the $50 early check in fee AND the $25 destination fee upon check in?? Barely used room but when 9pm rolled around and wanted to watch the end of a local football game our live TV was completely out. Took engineering over 20 min to come and fix it. Daughter also had to take a completely cold shower and I could not shower in morning due to lack of hot water. Not to mention terrible WiFi service. When requesting waiving the $25 destination fee due to all the inconveniences I was told no it is a mandatory charge and I have NO clue what we got for it besides lack of live tv, no hot water and paper thin walls to hear neighbors talking in all night. Save yourselves the money and go somewhere else in Chicago as you will not get what you pay for here.
- 5/5
everything was great and a bartender even asked about my allergies before serving me a cocktail. the cocktail i ordered had an allergen so her thorough service prevented a horrible night. ill remember that forever.

We had an amazing stay at the Palmer. The rooms were comfortable, clean and had nice views. The hotel is centrally located. The lobby is always bustling with people! We loved it and will be back.
- 5/5
Easy check in & out. Nice clean room, pool, & hotel. Hotel is old but that lends to a bit of nostalgia as maintenance & upkeep have keep the feeling of freshness alive.
- 5/5
Every staff member was pleasant & greeted visitors every time day or night. Was especially grateful to check in agent Brittany who took time to help me decipher my cell phone and print tickets. The hotel was always clean & the friendliest staff made it a pleasant stay….definitely recommend staying here.

Price wasn't worth it as the room as very damaged and the hospitality wasn't the best. I would not recommended. Everything is very old, dirty, and damaged. Customer service is terrible.

Clean room. I didn’t mind the old door knobs I liked it. Smaller room than anticipated but it was nice and clean.

Beautiful Christmas decor; room heating smelled terrible though and bathroom was freezing

The room was very spacious, the hotel lobby and bar are beautiful. Staff is super friendly and helpful! Would definitely stay here again
- 5/5
We were able to check in early which was extremely helpful. We had a wonderful stay!
- 5/5
Amazing stay plc is magical.
- 3/5
The wallpaper in our room was peeling off in big pieces, the time on the clock was wrong and could not be changed, and there was makeup on the pillowcases. Not the kinds of things you expect at a nice hotel.
- 5/5
Courteous staff- clean room-quick response to questions. Beautiful hotel.
- 5/5

A beautiful hotel! The atmosphere is stunning. It was stunningly decorated for Christmas. Staff was very helpful and friendly, the rooms were clean and comfy; great pillows. Food at the hotel was delicious. The location is excellent. Right by the L, close to Millennium Park, near great restaurants. Getting a taxi was very easy too.
- 5/5
The hotel is stunning and the staff were friendly and went out of their way to make our stay pleasant! Can’t wait to come back!
- 5/5
Classic grand hotel but with good modern upgrades. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent.
- 1/5
My check-in went well and I was able to get into my room early so that was nice. I decided to do the self-park and made sure to get my ticket validated when I checked in because I had to leave very early the next morning. The woman validated my ticket and even told me I could throw it away because the system uses license plate recognization upon exiting. So the next morning I try to leave and the gate won't open. I went to the ramp office and it was empty. I called the hotel and spoke with a woman who tried to contact the ramp for me and she was getting a busy signal. I'm stuck in the ramp and no one can help me and i'm starting to panic because I needed to leave, it was snowing hard out so I knew that was going to slow me down. I try to pay with the ticket that I kept, and the payment would not accept. So I have to go back over to the hotel to see if someone can help me, but I can't leave my car where it is. So I start backing up to get back to a parking spot and I accidentally smashed my car into a pillar. Totally my fault, but I should not have been in the position to do this damage to my car in the first place. I go back to the hotel, with my ticket, the woman who "revalidated" my ticket for me was not kind or understanding in any way. She gives me back my ticket which now has a stamp on it that it didn't have before (so my ticket was not actually validated when I checked in) and none of this should have happened. I'm very upset with how the hotel handled this.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel with excellent service
- 3/5
The spectacular lobby and locaion ought to earn it 5 stars but for the poor state of maintenance -- failed auto opener for entry's very heavy doors, no extra TP in our bathroom, etc. -- and serviuce -- inattentive doorman, no table service in lobby bar. Running on past glories. we will stay elsewhere next time.
- 5/5
Great room with double bathroom. Executive level with private elevator.
- 5/5
We had an delightful experience staying at the Palmer House last week. The room was spacious, charming & well appointed. The staff was friendly & helpful. Breakfast was included in our stay and was perfect. Location -- couldn't be better!!!!
- 5/5
The hotel reminded you of old elegance in all areas. The rooms were great, lobby was beautiful and the location was perfect.
- 5/5
Helped courteous, her room was clean and decor was nice. The hallway of the past stars who have appeared in the Empire Room was a nice touch. The food in the lobby bar was quite good! Five star rating!
- 5/5
Always great service.
- 3/5
Room was adequate. Carpet is dated and needs to be replaced. Not enough staffing at the restaurants
- 5/5
Historic hotel. Beautiful vibes. Excellent staff. We had a suite and our cleaning lady was the NICEST woman. My friend had laryngitis and she brought her tea and lemon and honey. Rooms are reasonably priced but drinks and food are very $$$$$$ (which is expected in Chicago). Staff was outstanding.

Great hotel and staff
- 1/5
The extra property fee they charge is so stupid and you don’t really use what they charge you for, so it’s dumb. The pool was closed, which I didn’t know when booking, and the staff didn’t care or attempt to try to appease that issue, but they had new pool signs up in the elevator even though it wasn’t open. The lobby and bar is absolutely gorgeous, but that’s the only thing they have going for them. The room I had was small and the closets were very musty to where we didn’t hang up any of our clothes. Overall, not worth the stay and wouldn’t recommend.
- 5/5
great stay
- 2/5
When I called to make reservations and ask questions, I was put on hold for over 10 minutes. I hung up and made reservations on Hotel.com. When I arrived at the Palmer House to check in, there were 3 long lines. The two clerks servicing my line disappeared leaving my line without help. I finally complained to one of the clerks helping another line. It took over 40 minutes to check in. As a result my group was late for our dinner reservation and also late for our scheduled event. When we later arrived to our room, we found some smelly clothes left in one of the dresser draws where we were going to put some of our clothes. There was no coffee maker for morning coffee. After our event, I tried to use the valet parking, but there was no one at the valet desk. I had to walk through the hotel to find someone who found someone to take my car. The entire stay was not a very good experience.
- 5/5
The room was beautiful, the hotel was decorated for Christmas. Clean, felt safe, friendly staff.
- 1/5
Room is old and dated. Shower head was broken when we got to the room and there was over 200 charged on my debit card with no explanation. I gave up calling and trying to figure it out . I don’t recommend this place what’s so ever
- 5/5
This place was amazing! Staff were very helpful and friendly! Easy check in and check out. Room was clean as well! Will definitely be back!
- 5/5
The room was clean. The bathroom had plenty of towels and soaps. The hotel was decorated very nice for Christmas.
- 3/5
We have been staying here over Thanksgiving for several years with no complaints until now. Our room was on the 9th floor at the end of a hallway. Not sure what it was next to but there were banging (pipes I think) most of the night. It was like someone was working on the pipes in the wall at the head of our bed. Crazy loud. The train was near also but that was nothing compared to the pipe noise. The room was bigger than other years but not worth it for the noise.
- 3/5
Spent one night. Didn't sleep well. Our room number 2312 was a premium king room, but the bed mattress sags in the middle, and needs to be replaced, the tub and sink drains are getting slower, need to be cleaned out. The wallpaper and painted trim are beginning to need attention. But the staff are courteous and the hotel otherwise is beautiful and in a perfect location for our Thanksgiving day parade. Have stayed here before and would again if it's improved.

Loved and enjoyed our stay

My tub wasn’t draining while I would shower. The room was nothing like the pictures on hotel.com and on top of that I was charged an extra $1,686 more than I was told I would be charge and have proof in screenshots $333 for two nights and I booked for 3 people, that’s $999 total and I ended up paying SO much more! It’s terrible business, and on top of everything I should be getting the room I pick that matches the pictures! It was a tiny room, not anything like the pictures, windows of the city were tiny and I didn’t have any microwave or kitchen like the picture showed. I am VERY unhappy with my experience and so mad I had a budget though a company and now not only has their business affected my work, it also makes it look like I am not reliable for their business when they were charged so much more than what we were told on the app.
- 2/5
Be ware of additional parking cost of $65 dlls per day. Pool was closed for maintenance.
- 5/5
Great
- 2/5
It is impossible to get someone on the phone at the front desk, no one picks up. We tried to update our reservation and spent hours on the phone, and waited over an hour to get a respons by text. This was the same onsite, we ended up walking down to the desk when we needed something. The pool was closed which was not reflected on expedia or when we checked in.
- 3/5
Paid two extra fees, wall paper peeling in the room, snacks expensive and looked old. The sheets need to be replaced.
- 1/5
The check in took over 40 minutes, with both check in clerks for my line disappearing. After 40 minutes, I had to walk up to the other line clerk and complain about the lack of personnel at the front desk. Every one in my line was completely frustrated with the lack of attention by the clerks. As a result of the registration delay, we were late for our dinner reservation and then our scheduled event. Later that night, when we did return to the hotel, there was no one to assist us for valet parking. We had to walk through the hotel to find someone to help us with our car. Then when we got to our room, we found 1) dirty and smelly clothes left in one of the dresser draws, 2) the lamp outlets did not work to recharge our cell phones, and 3) no coffee machine for morning coffee. Over all, it was not a very memorable experience.
- 5/5
Absolutely gorgeous! This hotel offers everything you need and want. Excellent food, amenities and the spa is the best part. We had a mother and daughter weekend with massage's, it was what we hoped for and more.
- 2/5
The amenities were severely lacking; the room did not provide even basic cutlery, let alone standard items like a coffee maker. The coffee service at Lockwood Express was particularly subpar. On two consecutive days, I was served cold coffee and cappuccino, indicating a need for better equipment and staff training. Furthermore, the server was unprofessional and openly hostile when I arrived just before 9:00 PM. Additional concerns involved facility access and responsiveness. The front entrance is excessively heavy and poses a safety and accessibility issue. I witnessed an elderly guest struggle significantly, and the automatic door opener for handicapped access was non-functional. Compounding this, the front desk was unresponsive, leaving me on hold for over 15 minutes. I trust this feedback will be taken seriously, as significant improvements are critically needed.
- 5/5
We had a great time. Great service right from the beginning. Everyone was so polite and made our stay so positive. Will definitely stay there again.
- 4/5
Excellent check in experience and follow up from Ella. The lobby bar area was beautiful with the Christmas trees and other decorations.
- 5/5
Staff was so helpful and friendly. Rooms were clean as was every aspect of the hotel. One of our favorite Chicago experiences.
- 5/5
Great atmosphere and friendly staff.
- 5/5
Enjoyed relaxing in the lobby
- 2/5
Pamer House is very tired and needs a lot of work.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, lovely staff. An experience you don’t want to miss.
- 4/5
Our room was ok, small but clean. Bed and sheets were very nice. Bathroom was very small. Not a lot of amenities in the room. The beauty of this hotel are the public areas, the lobby and its location in the loop. Nice place, just the rooms were so so. Pretty good food options in the hotel also.
- 2/5
What’s with the urban stay fee? Isn’t being a hotel in the city room rate already inclusive of location? Nickel & diming for what, a tired “legend”?
- 5/5
Helping efficient staff.
- 4/5
Rooms are small and tile in bathroom looked dirty
- 5/5
This was my first time in this historic hotel, and I enjoyed every minute!
- 3/5
Hotel is beautiful in the lobby. The room was dated ans beaten up. The wallpaper had packing tape to hold it up.
- 4/5
Terrific, attentive staff, and clean room -- but a worn out room (peeling wallpaper, paint wearing off of door, scratched walls). This seemed at odds with the elegance of the rest of the place.
- 2/5
I’m not sure who I am more upset with Expedia or the Palmer house. My original room booked vs the room I ended up staying in was extremely different. I booked The Palmer house hoping for a wonderful experience as I was here for the Christmas parade. But quite honestly though things were decorated beautifully I truly wish I had booked elsewhere. This was not the fault of the woman who checked me in. She did try very hard to fix a mistake that seemingly wasn’t hers. It’s really unfortunate.
- 3/5
Lovely hotel with a great location. However, the floors on the 21st floor were sloping in a variety of directions. I felt like I was on a moving cruise ship. I literally got motion sickness from walking around my room! I had to wear the motion sickness wrist bands while in the hotel. Unlike other reviews our room was a nice size and water pressure was fine. It was just those sloping floors that made the stay challenging.
- 5/5
Room great, lobby bar the best! Christmas tree gorgeous. And free brownie a nice touch!
- 5/5
Beauty and value.
- 3/5
add that the pools been closed in april, the AC in the room isn’t good at all. Staff not very accommodating with check in times/ room availability. Bartender was rude when we ordered drinks
- 5/5
The hotel was a beautiful gem. Our room with 2 queen beds & 2 barrooms was huge! Great place to stay in the city, walking distance to attractions & bars & restaurants.
- 2/5
Went to Chicago on train for the day. Return was cancelled . Booked last minute hotel through Expedia. We had no luggage , or change of clothes. Just looked forward to a hot shower. We had absolutely NO HOT WATER,& tub filled up w ice cold water that took forever to drain. So disappointing. I think a credit is in order for a very uncomfortable stay.
- 5/5
Staff could not have been more helpful. The venue was packed for an international rugby game, but everything was clean, well cared for and comfortable. Will defintiely stay here again!
- 5/5

- 5/5
Beautiful hotel
- 5/5
Breakfast was good (although not free but it was worthwhile), parking across the street was secured at desk making departure easier, architecture was beautiful and room was comfortable. Would stay in the hotel again
- 5/5
Classy and classic! Never disappoints
- 2/5
What used to be a beautiful hotel, now feels like an old fossil. You can see the antique decor, and it has an art deco feel in the rooms, but the quality has greatly gone downhill. My room had stained furniture, stained lampshades, misshapen old pillows that are almost cotton balls, and peeling wallpaper. The towels were paper thin and reeked of bleach. This is not the crown jewel it used to be.
- 5/5
Great location, great staff!
- 5/5
Excellent!
- 5/5
Beautiful and very clean
- 4/5
The main lobby and bar area was beautifully decorated and a lovey area to relax and meet people
- 5/5
Highly recommend! Beautiful property
- 4/5
this is the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed the only reason i gave 4* is that my room had problem with hot water and pressure but other than that its amazing place with incredible lobby with live music every night
- 1/5
Staff was rude, no hot water.
- 5/5
Great place to stay.
- 5/5
Location is great.
- 2/5
Undisclosed up charges. Front desk service not friendly. 1/2 hour checking in and room paid for not available. Expensive- used the history of the hotel to take advantage of guests.
- 2/5
Room was extremely terrible for the amount the room cost. Dented lamp shades peeling paint burn marks in the carpeting very thin walls. Could hear the next door neighbors partying all night. Staff convinced us to upgrade to executive suite. There was nothing executive about it.
- 5/5
What a fun hotel.... Most hoping place in town.
- 3/5
Obviously once a grand venue in the heart of Chicago but rooms a little tired- overdue for updating to a proper Hilton standard.
- 4/5
Beautiful, historic, but it took a long time to check in.
- 5/5
Great hotel
- 5/5
Room was very clean and well kept
- 3/5
The room and bathroom are outdated but good ambiance overall. It was Chicago marathon week when we came.
- 5/5
Was great
- 5/5
Very good hotel
- 5/5
A classic- always a pleasant stay- easy to get there from O’Hare on the train - stop is only 1/2 block away.
- 5/5
Wonderful experience
- 4/5
Rooms are clean. It’s an iconic building in Chicago. It’s also close by many amenities in downtown and loop area.
- 4/5
Stayed here for the Chicago Marathon weekend. Location was everything. Perfect for marathon morning! Our room was ok but paid for a room with 2 bathrooms but when we checked in and went to the room one of the bathrooms was under construction and the door was locked. There was not another room available, and no compensation was given so I was a bit unhappy about that. Would I stay again, yes, as the location was perfect.
- 3/5
Staff and service was good, room was clean but not as advertised for a Premium King room, much smaller. Small bathroom too.
- 3/5
We received drink vouchers. We were granted late check out at 1pm but when we returned to our suite at noon we were locked out. At check in it was not mentioned to have our self parking ticket stamped for the hotel price so we had to pay extra leaving the parking garage. Also not mentioned was a complimentary coffe maker so we had to request that in the am wait for it and it didn’t work properly - leaked all over the table it was on. The suite was very outdated. The dining table was old, scratched, stain and varnish missing, bathroom had hair on the bathtub, toys in the window sill. Bell service was promised in 5 minutes and 25 minutes someone arrived.
- 5/5
Everything was very good. Just as my previous stays have been
- 5/5
That’s a beautiful historical hotel located in heart of Chicago. Comfortable bed, pillows, has a fridge. We loved that all the restaurants were around and it was a walking distance to Chicago Marathon start line. It would’ve been nice if they had a breakfast included, they do have a restaurant but we haven’t checked it.
- 5/5
Wonderful historic hotel with modern amenities.
- 3/5
The phone didn’t work. The clock wasn’t plugged in. If this room weren’t over $300/night, I’d be rating differently, but my expectations were commensurate with cost.
- 5/5
We had an amazing time and can’t wait to come back!
- 5/5
Staff is exceptionally warm. Very welcoming place
- 4/5
The Common space were beautiful.
- 4/5
Lovely hotel in a central location. My Deluxe King Room was spacious and bed was comfortable. Bathroom was small and could use an update but was very clean. Staff/Customer service was excellent. Lobby and and area are beautiful and inviting. Public transport is right outside hotel so a little loud but highly convenient. I would definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
Empty shampoo bottle for days. Hotel rooms are not as clean being an old building. The common areas are beautiful and the vibe is amazing. Easy check in and out. Great location.
- 4/5
This is an historical and beautiful property. Love its location, especially for Chicago marathon runner. Room is ok. The water pressure of the shower is very weak.
- 5/5
Very clean and welcoming.
- 5/5
I loved the architecture and the history of the hotel.
- 4/5
Like this hotel, but the corner room is a little dark with an internal shaft. Because of the dark room, I probably wouldn't book again.
- 2/5
Too many hidden fees. Staff only moderately helpful and were not very quick to respond by text. Beautiful lobby but very loud and unable to enjoy it unless you were a paying customer of the restaurant.
- 3/5
The bathrooms in the rooms are ridiculous though. So so small. And you would expect a decent hair dryer too but that was not the case
- 5/5
Nice and convenient place. Unique atmosphere
- 5/5
Excellent everything
- 5/5
Nice
- 5/5
Hotel was packed for Chicago marathon and hotel staff were friendly and great. Loved our room and no issues. Would love to come back once pool is open..that was the only downside. Location is great

We were not told that the pool had been closed for several months else we would have stayed at a different hotel!
- 3/5
Disappointed with the fascade of service but no service. Everything is in poor condition old and not upgraded. The tub was so slippery that we needed to find a rubber mat for safety. To calls lended nothing and finally they brought us some towels. Not what we asked for. Plenty of rooms available yet we were told that to get two double beds was an "upgrade' and cost more$. Every time we use the convenience store the first screen was asking for a tip even before showing us the cost of our items. The bathroom door paint was peeling off and falling onto the floor. We will never return this place is shabby and cost double what we might have paid at an upgraded hotel.

Put in new carpet and update walls
- 4/5
Great place to stay.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel and amazing staff
- 3/5
Paul was closed, which was a big disappointment
- 4/5
Our room had a handicap accessible shower which caused water to get all over the entire bathroom floor. Other than that, it was a great experience.
- 5/5
It was a solid option!
- 5/5
All was good
- 4/5
Petty charges for water, parking,snavks
- 4/5
The room itself was clean and adequately furnished. Staff were polite and responsive, though service wasn’t particularly memorable. Check-in and check-out were smooth.
- 5/5
Great property with great staff and amenities.
- 5/5
It was the aesthetics of Palmer House, coupled with the overall comfort of my room that will insure a return reservation for me within the near future.
- 5/5
I did not like the resort credits that were forced on us. We had to leave before 11 and did not get to use the spa credit.
- 5/5
Perfectly beautiful hotel in the heart of Chicago! Everything you need and excellent staff!
- 3/5
Staff is wonderful, food is great. But the rooms are bare and not exciting. No coffee maker m, no room service.
- 5/5
Didn’t use spa.
- 5/5
Great place in center of city
- 2/5
The thermostat fluctuates the whole stay, the tub never drained and housekeeping tried insisting we already checked out.
- 3/5
Resort fee charged by hotel was unpleasant surprise ..should have been disclosed prior. Room very small.
- 5/5
Beautiful venue
- 5/5
A wonderful place with a fascinating history.
- 5/5
This is one of the most beautiful hotels we have been to. We are a frequent couple traveling all over the world. We better call it a museum hotel. Lots of history and amazing decorations.
- 5/5
Very safe, very accommodating, wonderful and friendly staff. Great location. Great food. Overall wonderful experience.
- 5/5
All good
- 5/5
The hotel and room were beautiful with just the right amount of comfort. My only suggestion is the concierge provided us list of things instead of any real assistance. They did recommend a breakfast place but when asking about theater they gave us some paper and said these are the shows playing. It was sort of odd and something I could do via the internet.
- 5/5
very beautiful and pleasant
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel but needs some updates & and maintenance
- 5/5
The room was unexpectedly spacious, especially for a city hotel. The restaurant was very good for breakfast (the only meal we ate at the hotel, it could be excellent for dinner, I just don’t know that). Convenient to the Art Institute, shopping, dining, and the lakefront. Great lobby. The only problem we had was that the safe was locked and security never showed up to unlock it.
- 5/5
This is a beautiful hotel and so conveniently located - easy to walk to museums and the Mag Mile
- 5/5
Hotel was very nice with terrific service.
- 3/5
This was once a great hotel (I stayed there as an undergraduate, camping out in the living room of my professor's suite). It's now a little seedy, sad, and old. Could use a large infusion of new money to restore its former glory.
- 4/5
Older property rooms need to be upgraded
- 5/5
Location is amazing with ample access to food, shopping, and landmarks. Will try to stay here again on my next visit to Chicago!

Wonderful historic property, we loved our stay in this beautiful hotel
- 5/5
Location was convenient to where we wanted to be
- 5/5
We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Close to everything and beautiful. We will be staying there anytime we’re in Chicago. Highly recommended!
- 5/5
Slightly dated rooms but good overall
- 2/5
I booked this stay for my birthday staycation. I was so excited by the pictures. The only accurate picture was of the lobby and public spaces. This is the first time I checked out of a hotel at 8 am in the morning due to lack of comfort. The room is extremely dated and not a vintage cure kind of way. The toliet is so close to the wall you could might knock your knees into the door. There were lots of strange sounds but I did expect this with the older building. The bathroom was not properly stocked (missing shower gel). Moreover, the staff seemed overworked and short. I did not get my room serviced until I called 3 times and then they came at 8 pm to "clean". I was very unsatisfied because I have heard so many positive things about this location. I do not have the heart to try this property again.

Nice hotel
- 3/5
Staff very nice and professional
- 5/5
What an amazing place to stay, location was great, the room was great, and the overall atmosphere is just wonderful. Cannot say enough good things about it.
- 5/5
Was visiting Chicago to go to an exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago. The hotel is close by and close to lots of things to do. Highly recommend.
- 5/5
Beautiful but room was SO TINY. No closet. Staff ignored people at the desk. Scammy Hilton resort guy downstairs and upstairs at some times. Was a fun experience but wouldn't stay again. Bed was super comfy though and loved how cold I could make it myself in the room.
- 5/5
Everything just fantastic at the Palmer house! A must place to stay in Chicago!
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly and informative. Carlo and Katherine checked in with us throughout our stay to see if we needed anything. Both were helpful in telling us which train to take the get to Wrigley Field and how to get a cab on the morning of our departure.
- 4/5
The main lobby felt grand when I first walked in. It was a really nice looking space. The room was okay, but being an old building, I expected things to be a bit dated. The hotel bar was very pricy (I don't travel to big cities much). Most places nearby were also rather pricy for food and drinks, but there was a lot of options in walking distance.
- 4/5
Beautiful hotel. The pool was under construction.
- 5/5
My husband and I are architecture nerds. We booked the hotel because of it's proximity to down town. We were very pleasantly surprised by our luck when we walked into the lobby! Gorgeous! Our room was next to the L-train, which we definitely didn't mind as we thought it was fun! Our window opened so we listened to the sounds of the City for a while and the windows had sound proof glass so when closed we had no trouble sleeping. We loved the location to all things downtown and the history of the hotel! We were able to walk to literally everything we came to see!
- 4/5
This hotel is great, the lobby should be included in UNESCO world heritage 👍
- 5/5
Very iconic, vintage and clean place. Easy access to all the sites to be seen downtown Chicago.
- 5/5
Amazing hotel. Super convenient location.
- 5/5
Great stay, first trip to Chicago was awesome! We will definitely be back for a stay at the Palmer House. Location was great. Only gripe was the water pressure on the 19th floor room 256 would completely stop during morning showers for 10-15 minutes intervals and come back on scolding hot.
- 5/5
Nice stay
- 1/5
Pool was closed . Waste of time and money
- 5/5
The customer service is top notch, you can’t find better service. The property is kept up and I enjoy the ambiance.

I’ve also had issues with things like the bathtub not draining. Not deal breakers, but kind of annoying.
- 1/5
One of the worst stays I’ve had in over 30 years traveling. Staff simply do not care, they told us incorrect information regarding our stay twice and when it came time to correct it acted like they were doing us a favor by doing what their employee told us at check in and wouldn’t correct the second error. When I asked who I could speak with they said no one. So rude and unprofessional, can’t believe this staff works at a historical hotel. Beyond the horrible staff, the walls were paper thin and we could hear every sound from the room next to us, rooms were outdated and dirty, and facilities were either closed, dirty, or not well maintained. So disappointing! Come see the lobby take a picture and stay elsewhere!
- 2/5
Our stay was approximately $400 - we looked forward to the upscale hotel after a long night at a concert. The staff was generally amiable until an issue arose. We were considering a drink from the mini bar. When I opened it, I found two open cans of White Claw and two open cans of Modelo. We immediately reported it to staff. We were told they’d take care of it, so we went out to get a bite to eat. When we returned, nothing had been restocked or fixed. Big disappointment considering now we had to decide to have a drink and have them possibly charge for the four problem drinks we reported. No response, no fix, no customer service, or special touch to repair the issue. I’ve worked in hospitality for many years. This was a joke.
- 5/5
Gorgeous lobby. Wonderful dining options.
- 4/5
There’s no denying that Palmer House is incredibly beautiful.
- 4/5
It is a beautiful hotel. The room itself, though, was pretty beat up. The bathroom cabinet bottom portion was torn up and you could see the wood underneath and the bathroom smelled like mold or mildew. The rest of the room there were no issues, but the walls on that particular floor, seemed to not be in great shape either. Not sure why the smell as the room appeared very clean and housekeeping was constantly cleaning rooms.
- 2/5
Had an issue with the tub draining plumber came pull out a big long black hair and just threw it in the toilet without flushing it then still didn’t drain asked to switch room and this tub drain either. there’s mold all in the bathroom. It is stuffy and not what I expected.
- 5/5
Hotel staff went above and beyond to make our stay great, even upgraded our room to a larger one for no extra charge!
- 3/5
While the location was perfect for us and the hotel had a beautiful lobby, our room was a little shabby with wall paper starting to peel in the corners and some mold in the bathroom. The lobby staff were friendly, but we did not like the "deal" we were offered three times that turned out to be a pitch for a Hilton Grand Vacations time share. Our bill was incorrect and getting it fixed was a pain. They charged us more than the Expedia price and charged us for the never used mini-bar. After giving up by phone with a half hour on hold, we went to "chat". It took four hours but someone finally chatted with us. They refunded the mini-bar charge but not the additional taxes of $13.14 on the resort fee, which for some reason Expedia does not include in its price.

Sliding down….

Customer service amazing

Room was tiny. Tub was broken
- 5/5
Always love staying at The Palmer. The location is super convenient and the property oozes with Chicago charm. The staff is kind and always willing to help. Looking forward to my next stay.
- 3/5
No coffee maker in room, no vent in bathroom
- 2/5
Room very clean . However room has never been ready by check in time and room keys didn’t work and had to go up and down 12 floors multiple times to get into room
- 5/5
Beautiful unique hotel, friendly staff and quiet for people who need to rest!
- 3/5
When I first arrived, my room had red marker stains on the sheet and pillow, a torn lamp, peeling wallpaper, and a grimy bathroom floor. The carpet throughout feels especially unhygienic for a major city hotel, considering the heavy foot traffic. The staff did switch me to a new room, which I appreciated, but unfortunately it still carried the same run-down feel. Overall, the property is in need of significant updates if it wants to live up to its 4-star rating. I will most likely not stay here again.
- 2/5
Poor customer service. Overcharged my card on file, as they double charged my card for parking. They are aware but no resolution. It is challenging to find time to make multiple calls to resolve a mistake on their part.
- 5/5
A+
- 5/5
It was great but we got charged for early check in and we are Hilton rewards members
- 5/5
Staff were great! Excellent hotel close to everything!
- 5/5
Exceptional Property with Great location to nany things
- 4/5
Nice clean room.
- 5/5
It’s a beautiful hotel with lovely staff. The beds were very comfy but the pillows have no neck support. We loved how close it was to Millennium park and how walkable the area was for finding dining options and seeing the sights. It’s only about one city block from the Art Institute and we got to walk by those beautiful lions every day. We did not try the restaurant but did have a drink at the Lockwood bar. The drinks were well balanced but it took forever to get drinks; I had to wait 15 minutes just to place my order at the bar with three bartenders. We didn’t see any waiters to help either.

Dated rooms, tight bathrooms,
- 2/5
Rooms were such a disappointment. Dirty. Damaged. Missing drawers hardware. Wallpaper coming off. Need improvement
- 5/5
The hotel lobby, was amazing, the elevators are unique… but the rooms need to renovate, the drywall paper is coming apart in the whole room including the bathrooms, and housekeeping was the worse, never clean our room in 3 nights 4 days of stay. Very disappoint in that particular area. The rest was excellent, very nice hotel staff from the greeter thru the lobby employees !
- 5/5
Amazing experience definitely I will comeback
- 4/5
It was a typical big city property. Lots of people, upper floors quiet
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel within walking distance to great restaurants, shopping and sites. We had a wonderful weekend
- 3/5
everything was good, just watch out for the fees.
- 5/5
Loved the Palmer House Hotel!!! The lobby, amazing decoration! I even took a picture of it to post on social. The bar and restaurant area, very popular and looked like everyone was enjoying themselves! The room, well, not the best, but this was an occasion where I booked last minute and through a 3rd party on lalapalooza weekend. So, I was happy to just get a bed and a shower! But could use some upgrades. Overall, the help was extremely courteous and helpful. The amenities were perfectly accommodating and it gave me and my daughter a place to comfortably call home for the night! I would recommend this hotel to anyone!
- 2/5
the room we received had a locked bathroom that did not function
- 5/5
Pleasant experience. Accommodations were good. Surrounding area was convenient to shopping, eateries and p parks.
