Best Western Chula Vista/Otay Valley Hotel

The stay was great, and breakfast was delicious

There were bed bugs, bodily fluids left in the bathroom. Blood on sheets. Horrible staff that won’t resolve your issues. Management that is never there to reply back to your complaints. Booked for two nights. Slept in the car the first night and checked out the next morning. However they still have not credited my account for the second night. I had booked it because my sons team was staying there. However, it was so disgusting that the team left the next morning. But management still has not credited my account for the second night. Called Expedia twice, the reps said they will email the management to get an answer but have not recieved a reply after 2 months!

It was a simple room. It felt clean. Really small shower. My only issue was how loud the freeway was all night. That’s not something they can help. Just try not to stay on the freeway side.

Not a bad place for the price. It is an older hotel that could use a little love on the outside. The breakfast was good. The room was clean and comfortable. The one thing was the gas station next door that sold diesel fuel was loud throughout the night. Maybe if our room would have been a little further back on the property it wouldn’t have been as loud. I don’t know if it would have been any better on the other side because the freeway is right there.

All went well. Staff was nice and helpful, and property was clean. Ice machine was removed near my side of the hotel, but the other side was available. No big deal.

10/10 stay. I really enjoyed all the staff members, they were all super helpful. Nice and chill area, as a solo female traveler I felt really safe! Would definitely go back!

Could of been way better for pricing

Not the best place i have ever stayed. It was solid for what i needed. The room was clean. A few things: the air conditioner was rattling. We adjusted it it, not enough bar soap, bottom of doorway in bathroom rotted out and the ironing board cover was very loose because it did not have pad. But we made due.

This is a much older property that does not look well kept. The rooms are really smelly from a combination of the bathroom sewer fumes, smoking, musty and not sure what else. It is also very noisy due to its proximity to both the freeway and a main street.

We stayed here because the reviews were good on hotels.com. Bathroom was dirty hair everywhere. Bathtub was disgusting. Had to put a towel on the floor just to get in the shower. As I was walking into the hotel with my family got approached, asking if we had any white. That was awful. My husband later had to go to the car again and was approached by a different male asking for white as well. Had to kill a few spiders. Staff was great but don’t recommend if u have family.

It was a nice stay, convenient and budget friendly. A little noisy being next to the freeway but other than that no complaints. Super Clean and staff was very friendly.

Price reflects the quality but would definitely stay here again on a budget trip. Good location for many of the things we planned to do.

What I liked about this hotel was that the staff was able to accommodate to our early check in request.

I liked that the hotel was very clean and affordable. Also the bed is comfortable and the staff is nice. In addition , I liked that the hotel is near fast food restaurants such as In n Out and Panda Express. However, I didn’t like the entrance for the hotel; the entrance is through a gas station. Also the room closet didn’t have hanging racks to hang your clothes. The bathroom has hanging racks , but I think racks in the closet would be better. Overall I enjoyed my stay 😊.

The room was ok, the toliet was kinda low for someone who has mobility issues, the shower pressure was ok, the cover for the air conditioner was loose. One of the USB plugs didn't work. Didn't get a chance to have the breakfast thou.

Good location The room appeared to be clean. At first glance, sink was plugged up, discovered a huge cockroach in the room complain. The staff the next morning I was moved to the second floor that room appeared to be clean, but again the sink was plugged. Look to have a lot of hair stuck in it very dissatisfied. This location used to be good. I won’t never stay there again.

Staff is pleasant and welcoming. Parking spaces are a little tight. Plenty of parking if you don’t mind parking around the back of the building. Elevator is a positive. Especially when using the stairs is not possible. Breakfast is basic. Eggs and potatoes and especially the beans, not appetizing. Coffee was good. If you like breads, cereals for breakfast then you’re fine. The room was clean with the exception of the hair left tub train and sink. Walls in our room had food splatters. Bed was comfortable enough, pillows not so much. We asked for a quieter room, they were able to accommodate us. Still wear ear plugs so noise level from gas station next door was not noticeable. The staff we interacted with were all pleasant.

The door did not shut well. It had to slammed to get the door to close. The shower faucet is wired backward. The hot came out of the cold side.

My stay was very disappointing. The room had a strong, unpleasant odor, and the mattress had a large indentation that made it uncomfortable to sleep. I wouldn’t stay here again.

There’s were bugs on one of the beds and stains on the comforter. Told the staff and the guy said management would have to approve a cancellation based on our request to cancel. There was no way we would stay even in another room if this was their quality of “cleaning.” Absolutely disappointed.

The hotel had a plumbing situation. I couldnt use the bathroom or shower and I had to drive to a gas station to use the bathroom. It was very unpleasent. I couldnt enjoy my room.

The facilities and location were very convenient and pleasant. Only one towel in the room and when I was checking in I had to use a restroom urgently and was denied use of the restroom until I checked in so had to leave to find one and eventually ended up using the very dirty and inconvenient restroom at the gas station next door after waiting 10 minutes because the person was using it as a shower. Due to the waiting I incurred a urinary tract infection.

Toilet didn’t work properly the window blinds were stained which was gross. The room was not necessarily the cleanest upon first arrival. There’s no automatic house keeping service so you have to request it the night prior. Requested the room to be cleaned 2 out of the 3 nights I was there yet it was never serviced. Walls are paper thin apparently since you can hear EVERYTHING. Constant noise from the freeway and the semi trucks fueling in the gas station next to it was annoying as well. Parking is tight and limited. Night worker was rude and lacked basic customer service. I would avoid staying here. Never again.

We arrived and the room I was in wasn’t very clean from the initial look around but I wasn’t too alarmed, well that is until I went into the bathroom and noticed rust and dirt around the tub drain, toilet paper dispenser had dust and spots of who knows what that was clear as day on the chrome fixture. I just assumed it had been busy and they would clean it on the third day as promised. The room had clean bedding and the beds were comfortable. All we needed was a place to sleep. Third day came and went with no cleaning. I asked the front desk on day 4, was handed fresh towels and said they would be clean the next day. Next day came and still no service. This time I questioned the morning manager who told me it was a franchise when I asked who owned the facility. He promised the room would be clean and much to my surprise it was when we returned from work. One service for ab10 day stay. This was the same for the room

Only complaint was we stayed on the 2nd floor and during the night, there were kids/teens racing each other outside the rooms quite loudly and they seemed to congregate in that area outside those rooms (including ours).

I am very disappointed with this hotel. The bathtub was dirty, and the room carpet was filthy and full of stains. I booked a room for seven days, and housekeeping never came to clean it; we had to go to the front desk to request towels, soap, shampoo, and trash bags for the room. The worst part was that one day the water went out for the entire day, so we couldn't shower or use the toilet. This ruined my vacation. I would like a refund; it was a very bad experience, only the breakfast was ok I do not recommend this hotel, and I will not comeback again.

Adam was great, very friendly. The area is very quiet and calm. The only thing I didn’t like was the stained sheets/towels. The floors could be swept and moped under the sink since I found it very dirty in that area and our toilet seat was peeling off. Furniture was a little dusty so I cleaned it with sanitizing wipes. Other than that the stay was good

I want a refund I had a horrible experience, the night manager or front desk gave me room 225 for me to stay with my wife and two daughters then 2 hours later like around 1am he gave that same room to another family. So we had them at 1 and trying to get in and force their way into our room. My girls were scared and it wasa bad experience that we left an hour later cause we couldn’t sleep it was a bad and scary experience.

The room was disappointing and not what I expected for a BW hotel. The tub was rusted and not clean. The shower leaked water for a long time after I turned off the water. The carpet had stains and looked like it had not been cleaned in quite some time . Breakfast was fine.

Location too close to the freeway onramp. I stayed on the first floor and could hear the revving of the vehicles going on the freeway at night. Maybe the top floors are not as bad. There was rust on the tub, but the staff was friendly and helpful. I only stayed one night; the breakfast and coffee were good at 6 am.

The pool was cold and does not have heat. The bathroom floor looked like mold in room 213. The carpet was dirty when barefoot it would stain our feet. The breakfast food was actually good. I’d recommend it if you’re just there to sleep and eat breakfast to go do something around San Diego. I went in as a local to relax and enjoy the hotel but it’s not good for that. You get what you pay for.

At checking the staff was really friendly not just with me but with everyone who was checking in or if they had questions. Location is great you have a convenience store at walking distance. My room was next to the freeway so it was slightly noisy but once I turned on the AC I was good.

Check in was an issue due to hotel computer down. Room chair had big stain. Refrigerator did not work. I was informed by staff I would receive a discount at checkout for the inconvenience, but when I checked out I was not given any discount. When I spoke with the front desk staff the guy told me there was no discount for me in the system, but I would hear back from the hotel . 3 days later still nothing.

Both my daughter and I were disgusted by the room. The sheets, pillow cases, and comforter were stained on both beds and my daughter couldn’t sleep because she felt like the bed sheets were not clean. She didn’t take a shower because she felt like the towels weren’t clean either. They also had stains. The bathroom had water spots that I was able to wipe off so it was a bit concerning. I was going to ask for another room, but we arrived at 11:30 pm and my daughter had to be up at 6:30 am for field hockey game. We usually come back to the room to rest between games, but she was so disgusted by room, she wanted to stay at the field. The breakfast was not edible either. When I checked out, they didn’t even ask how my stay was. First time I haven’t been asked. I was going to say something, but felt it wasn’t worth it since they didn’t want to know. Stay clear of this hotel.

We slept well, it was at a great location but the room was not well taken care: carpet had large stains n black out blinds too, I have never had seen 2 ft wide stains on a blind. One of the towels had a blood mark, like it was not even washed from the last customer…

Some of the pillow covers had stains on it. The heater wasn’t working right and the sheets were somewhat dirty. We got there after a long flight and we had to stand outside in the cold because you can’t check in inside only through a window. I won’t stay here again.

The room had several issues. The lamp had no lamp shade. The fabric on a chair had a big stain. Heard the traffic noise from the nearby road. Sheets and towels were clean but the room felt dirty. The carpet and floor did not feel clean. I only stayed there one night but likely will not stay there again.

When I arrived, they had changed their policies and no longer accepted my bank. They also don’t accept any form of tap, even if the card has your name on it. It has to be a physical card. I ended up losing my stay and didn’t get a refund because they didn’t disclose their new policies before I booked the room.

Felt unsafe, many lights out around the building and parking. No security, people having parties and cutting hair in the walk way. Plumbing didn’t work for flushing. Rooms had bugs and a lot of dust, spider webs.

The gentleman who checked us in was great — greeted me immediately and had that “I’ve been awake all night and I’m still happy to see you” energy. Much appreciated at 1 a.m. Now, the room… let’s just say it has character. It’s clean, but definitely showing its age. If hotel rooms collected frequent flyer miles, this one would be Elite Platinum. The good news? The beds were extremely comfortable and the pillows were in great condition. I read reviews about the freeway noise, and yes, you can hear it — but I’m used to life noises, so it didn’t bother me. If you’re the type who wakes up when a feather falls, this may not be the hotel for you. Overall: for a quick overnight with a few hours of sleep and breakfast in the morning, it’s worth the price. If I had known I wouldn’t arrive until 1 a.m., I probably would’ve saved myself thirty bucks and gone with a cheaper option… but hey, hindsight is 20/20, especially at 4 a.m. after no sleep. Would I stay again? Sure — as long as my expectations are set to “cozy but experienced.”

Angel was great at check-in. He greeted us as soon as we walked in, and we felt valued because he acknowledged us right away. He checked us in quickly and explained all the hotel amenities. We’ll definitely be back.

We picked this location because of a family event because of the price and the location the property was being remodeled, and it was kind of a mess. The lobby was closed. We had to check in through a side window. They had to give us a different room because the plumbing was having issues in the original room. Hopefully when the remodel is done, it’ll be a better facility.

My mom is a nearby hospital so I’ve been staying at this particular place for a few days now. I was so disappointed to find pistachio shells on the nightstand. I was so tired that day otherwise I would have gone to the front desk to complain.

This is really a motel not a hotel and barely a level above a motel 6. Staff were not accommodating at all. Arrived at 3:05 pm and told to come back at 4 pm. I've never had a problem checking in a little early especially at 3 in the afternoon.

The toilet appeared to be new; however, the toilet seat was loose, and I almost fell on the floor when I sat down. The floor lamp was stimply a stick with a bare bulb on it.

This location shares a parking lot with one of the busiest gas stations I've ever seen. Non-Stop trash trucks, diesel vehicles filling up, construction workers coming and going to stay at the hotel. Very noisy

Overall a pretty bad experience. From hearing the cars all night long to seeing stains on the carpet near the bed. This location is far from perfect. The room was extremely outdated and lacked being deep cleaned. There were several spots throughout that made you question what had happened or if it had been clean previously. There was constant car noise all night long making it hard to sleep if you’re a light sleeper. This is the first and most definitely the last time I’ll stay here.

The refrigerator was not working, and the bed was broken.

I found a roach crawling around on our sink. I’m glad it was right before we left, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to sleep. It’s pretty noisy with the freeway being right next to it. We got two rooms and one of the tvs in the room didn’t work. Staff was friendly, but the experience wasn’t great.

This is our most favorite in the Chula Vista area. The entire staff always goes above and beyond to accommodate us during our stay. The rooms are up to date and very clean.

This location was not clean. The sheets and towels smelled cleaned but were stayed. There was blood on the carpet, a small hole in the wall, no iron and the ironjng board cover was all stained. I had to pay $25 for early checkin. Which was an 1.5 hrs early! Really Best Western? And the internet kept disconnecting. Not worth the pay. So unhappy!

Daniel and Angel at the front desk are fantadtic. Super helpful and kind. Not impressed with room service. Tjey dont tidy up rooms. You have to request supplies. Besides that. I enjoyed both stays.

The room was dirty there was hair on the bathroom wall, what looked like blood spattered by the bed and worst of all there was what I'm pretty sure is human feces smeared on the chair in the room.

Check in took way too long. We were the only ones in line and it took 20 min. They had no AC in the lobby so it was like 85-90 degrees and lobby employees had a fan pointed on themselves. It was that hot. We got to our room and the carpet was stained everywhere. Like there had been a party and everyone dropped wine everywhere. Asked for another room and got one w one big stain on carpet and settled for it since check in kept taking so long. Its right next to freeway so you hear it all night. First morning we left fo sesame place and i asked for housekeeping for new towels and to change our bedding. Got back from a long day to the same room w my dirty towels still there. I called again to please give us new tiwels at least since they said housekeeping left. They said sure. 1 hr later i send my husband to the lobby to get the towels since they never came. He says oh yea room blah blah? Yea he said he was about to take his lunch break so he got sidetracked and forgot about us. This staff doesn't give a crap about you or their jobs. As we leave so crack head w a bat talking to himself walking by all aggressive while i have my 1 and a half your old with me. Never again.

Nice property clean. The only complaint I have is the noise, walking upstairs woke me up as well as people leaving for work at 530 am

Good location just some downside errors , someone tried getting into our room as hotel gave someone our room to someone else ! Luckily none of us were getting changed or anything . Key to the door keeped locking every night had to go into lobby to get a new one overall good location just some hiccups..

It was a nice stay! I was sad to find out that the pool was closed, but it’s understandable there was some construction going on.

Couldn’t stay at the hotel because they were renovating the front lobby and everyone had to wait outside in a small window to check-in. Wasted $150 and couldn’t even stay.

This hotel was disgusting! Under construction, room had foul odor, and plumbing was clogged. Could not stay there. Did not feel safe at all. Breakfast was to be served in a hotel guest room.

Staff at check in was good. Room just had a strong smell and there seemed to be a lot of people milling about the parking lot.

A/C had an odor, although after a while the smell went away and it didn’t get as cold as we’d like it to, thats a me preference though.

WiFi didn’t work in room. Bathroom light broken. Hotel lobby being restored (not disclosed). Breakfast served from one of the hotel rooms. Toaster broken. Had to check in through window. Overall, not good!

Breakfast was just okay and the exact same servings each day. Needs variety. Place was very noisy. We had two rooms on the 3rd floor facing the freeway and the noise from the freeway and the adjacent freeway on-ramp was so bad that we had a hard time getting a sleep. The lobby was under construction. The man servicing the breakfast area was doing a great job. Breakfast area had limited sitting and we had to sit by the pool to eat our breakfast on 2 of the 3 days we were there. But the biggest issue was the freeway noise. If you have to stay here, request a room on the east side of the building and lower floors since the freeway is about the same level as the 3rd floor.

They should inform customers that the hotel is under remodeling the carpet and the shower were dirty, breakfast is very early it ends at 9 and they served it in one of the rooms

The whole property was under construction and the people at the front were not nice or didn’t even acknowledge me when I walked in. The room they gave me had a front door that didn’t shut, there was no hot water and so many fruit flies all around. There was no soap or anything in the room for guests

Staff are nice. However, the hotel itself is far from the pictures shown on Expedia site. The lobby is under renovation, ice machines were broken, and breakfast is ok. The building structure is old. If you only need a place to sleep and shower, then it’s good enough.

Overall it worked out, but the room needed cleaning attention from my point of view, the carpet had stains and the shower tiles haven’t been cleaned properly it was a mold spots on the corners

I did not end up staying the night because there were small gnat files in the room. I killed a lot of them and more kept filtering in.

This property served its purpose! We just needed somewhere to stay for a weekend. Although it’s right off the freeway, you can barely hear the noise from the inside of your room. The only thing is that the property is kind of outdated. So if you don’t mind that, then you should be fine.

This was the worst experience I ever have for a hotel in San Diego. I arrived at 5:30pm to check in and the room was not ready even thou check in started at 4:00pm. The lobby is under construction and they are taking check ins in the side of the building close to the pool. I didn’t get into my room until 6:pm. I went to my room and they were still cleaning it. 30min after housekeeping showed up and I was just off the showers and after I hear the knocked I said I’m good I don’t need anything. The lady proceeded to open the door I had to yell not to enter. If I can give the hotel a zero I would. Not recommend this place to anybody.

A lot of commotion going on throughout the night. The room was dirty. The bathroom was dirty with hair on the toilet and in the bath. The toilet seat had streak marks of bodily fluids on it. The towels had hair and stains on them. This place is under construction and it was fully booked so there were no other rooms at the moment. Price doesn’t match.

The room was nice enough, but you can hear everything, especially the freeway. I was not ready for the tent chexk in window.

There was no pull out bed or sofa and they do not have cribs or bassinets for rent or loan. Traveling with baby and a toddler. I have a portable bassinet for my baby but the front desk made it seem like a big issue that we planned on just cosleeping with our toddler telling me that they needed to move me to a double bed but we’re sold out of double beds which was what my original reservation was for. I do want to mention the front desk guy I’m not sure if he was on drugs or what but was very weird and gave me the creeps. Every request was denied, no extra blankets allowed, no extra pillows or anything to make our stay more comfortable. Was clean enough, bed had a dip in it but everyone was so exhausted from the trip we passed out. Breakfast was decent as well, traditional waffles, cereal and prepaid eggs/sausage. I’m not sure if I would ever stay here again, this was a last minute trip so my options were limited, if I had more planning time would likely choose elsewhere. If in a pinch and needed a bed sure.

Worst hotel i have ever stayed in. Best Western should be embarrassed that this is one of their hotels. Upon checking in i was told we had to notify them 24 hours in advance if we needed housekeeping. Breakfast was subpar. Noisy location near the freeway and every night had to ask others to keep the noise down. People did not know how to be quiet even past midnight. Maintenance seems non existent. AC did not work very well, but it would try for a second or two and then make a lot of noise.

The room was clean and beds were comfortable. The room walls were thin. We could hear people outside, which interrupted our sleep. Overall the stay was good for a one night stay.

Nice stay, awesome breakfast, Mexican American, bacon sausage , egg omelette Potatoes , beans with cheese , chilaquiles. Cereal variety , oat meal, coffee juice, waffles , yogurt , fruit . Near freeway, ask for a room in other side for less noise

Rooms where very cozy

The front office was being renovated, that was a red flag. The room was not at all clean. When we checked out the man just took my keys, didn't give me any insight on the deposit or anything. Also housekeeping knocked on our door to check when we were checking out because she did not want to come back around again to clean the room.

We found roaches all in the room and had no water for 3hrs and still had to get out at 11am even though we had to rush a quick shower cause the water had barely came back

You go there for the convenience of the location and price. It was under construction when I went and the had a provisional table to do the check in that I felt bad for the staff who has to work on those conditions during the night time up to the morning.

We stay at this hotel whenever we visit our family on Chula Vista, who live nearby. I think we chose the wrong night to stay here this time. We were given a room on the second floor next to the elevator. But I believe there must’ve been a concert or some type of event going on because we were stuck between a group of 10 - 20 guests who were loud, obnoxious, partying and drunk all night until about 4 am. They were slamming doors, yelling and laughing without regard to anyone else’s peace. I’m up right now writing this review because I can’t sleep thanks to these disrespectful guests.

The hotel was being remodeled, my room was clean and quiet.

Our room was incredibly dark with only one desk lamp that worked. No one came to fix this situation despite having been told.

Lobby closed, check in was a window and room was not ready, had to go to restroom in a dirty overflow room. Ugh never again

The lobby is in construction but I feel it’s appropriate for a short stay, located near freeway entrance which is convenient. Staff was attentive and friendly.

Check in was easy. Customer service was excellent. BW Renovating the lobby and check in at this time. Room clean. Free breakfast was great! Love how they still offer this. Waffles were delicious!

This was my 2nd time at this BW. They are remodeling at this time, to make things better. The breakfast was very good and the gentleman who was attending us with the complementary breakfast Alex did a fantastic job.

This place has problems. Dirty. Air conditioning didn’t work. I asked them to fix and they said they did but didn’t. The staff you can tell is overwhelmed with so many problems. Would not recommend or stay again.

Lobby was closed which was unfortunate after a long day of travel.

Lobby under construction, so checkin was through an open window. Sketchy parking lot. Definitely gave off a “party motel” vibe. Room was clean and newly appointed so once I closed the door I felt comfortable. Ten feet from the freeway and super loud, so ask for a room NOT on the freeway side of hotel if possible. Didn’t try the breakfast.

My room was not serviced cleaned. Had no iron and called for towels and iron. After 2 Ep min had to go t front desk and still waited 15 min.

This place was disgusting! Its was beyond dirty! On top of that, the receptionist gave us a room that other people were already in! Then they switch our room but as soon as my kids and I walked in that room had a nasty stench !

It's very convenient for a stay before crossing the border. Which was my purpose. They're currently under massive construction. You can't check in in the lobby. You have to use this weird window, FYI they don't take cash, and the set up caused a big back up even at 10:30 PM. Tip. Use a bathroom before check in. I nearly died lol.
