Feels unsafe

I liked this place. I was in SD for a Padres game and this place is a 10 minute walk from the train that takes you right to the stadium. Much cheaper than staying in SD closer to the stadium. Only issue with the room was the AC unit dripped a lot of water, almost slipped at one point and couldn't figure out where the water had leaked from. Other than that, good property, would stay here again.

The room was very dirty, with cracked walls, broken doors, and a strong unpleasant odor that smelled like mold. The air conditioner was dirty as well and blew out an odor that smelled like urine.

The room was all around OK… not much better than that… but for the price I don’t think it’s bad.

I didn't like that it smelled like if someone was smoking .Also because of the smell I was barely able to sleep overall it was pretty bad.

Terrible bed, that humid smell inside the room plus that noisy AC. The door was so old it was tricky to unlock it. It was only one night for business trip but this was the worst experience ever. Avoid this place.

Only thing we like about it was it was a clean neighborhood. Well first off I didn't like the property manager he was a smart ass treated my friend like she was garbage the room was cold there was no security locks it was hardly anybody at the front desk when you needed anything we asked for extra towels and we're told no we can't get them I don't know it was a bad experience and I'm requesting information about how I go about getting my money return to me the bed sheets smelled I found a bed bug in mine so I wouldn't even sleep in it so when your help or advice someone can give me out there please contact me thank you

How to open the stuck door and told me it was just getting stuck. Toilet would not refill when flushing. I reached out to the front desk via text message thread they sent me for requests. Never responded and they never came to check it out. Room had a lot of wear and tear on the walls along with the broken door. Will not be staying here again. Room is very old and smells old. Nothing like pictures.

The younger girl at the reception with the boyfriend there so it was kind of not professional.

There was a loud night club with loud thunderous music and loud vehicles doing burnouts. Till 3 am. The seats in the room were filthy looking. The counter top looked dirty too. I train could also be heard several times. Bright lights are on all night. The only upside was that the bed and pillows were comfortable.

Never got to experience a stay because they overbooked and left me hanging in San Diego after driving three hours. Had a reservation, paid and everything and the staff was useless and told me I would have to go through Expedia for a refund. Thank God Expedia came through and found me another hotel and did not charge me a penny more. Also, this hotel is in a very shady area. Very unsafe.

Due to the health and cleanliness concerns, I immediately requested to cancel the remainder of my stay, but the property refused to issue a refund. I am extremely disappointed that a hotel with these conditions is still operating and continuing to advertise rooms that do not accurately reflect the actual property. This experience was unacceptable, unsanitary, and far below reasonable hospitality standards.

Our room had shoe prints on the ceiling. It was mold on the window curtains. Also, it was mold on the restroom window seal. The window didn't have a screen in the restroom, and it opened pretty wide. It did have a lock for the window though. The restroom door did not close. The beds were squeaky.

This place is jotnworth $164 a night. The staff was friendly enough, but the property is run down and pretty beat up. The sink clogged with every use, the window in the bathroom had a trailer park view straight into someone's bath door, which gave sketchy American Horror Story vibes. The sheets had viewable stains on the bedding and the pillows. The outlets did not work; come to find out that the middle night stand wasnt even plugged in. The overall state of the room was grimy. The fridge wasn't even turned on. The water smelled weird, the shower had no pressure. I can appreciate that they provided dove products, such as hand lotion, soap, and shampoo and conditioner, but can someone please explain why there was body lotion in the shower instead of body wash? This place mighr bw great for the budget traveler, but it was certainly not up to standards for a family with young children.

I don't recommend it. There was a cleaning person who came to give the service in a bad way. I went to the resection and the person who was at that time came out upset. I didn't explain what had happened. He disrespected me in that and agreed with the cleaning person and the guest and told me that's why it happened. They wouldn't rent me a room again. I hope the customer service improves. You have to know who to put in customer service so that these things don't happen.

Parking was easy, but the name of the "hotel" is deceiving. It is more of a motel or inn. The room was not that clean. There were stains on the towels. The bathroom was especially dirty. The floor felt gross. Pillows were flat.

Some rooms have a noisy neighbor. WIFI is worthless. Otherwise quite acceptable.

Booked for the price but was a bit rough on the outside. Some guy around 10ish was playing his boombox out on the deck and being loud. I did call the front desk and it stopped right away. It felt like shady things may go on here but we slept well and got a good price.

The morning staff was fine, the evening staff however locked the entrance and was unaccounted for for more than 20 minutes (preventing my check in … I called in advance to ensure the time was still okay). I was in process of finding a new hotel when she sauntered into view and unlocked the door.

I had to leave the hotel at about 4:00am.

The toilet seat screws were broken. Wouldn't tighten. Bed was comfortable enough and pillows were fluffy. The room was clean but in clear need of repairs. For the price it's worth it to come back. The other rooms I've stayed in were better.

Staff was helpful for the most part. When we asked for some insecticide to kill the bugs the front office person said he didn't know where the cleaning supplies were and then no one went to the room to clean after being promised someone would take care of the roaches.

The neighborhood did not feel very safe, and it was clear that many people staying here are long-term residents. You’ll see kids, teens, and adults hanging around outside as if it’s their permanent home. In the morning, we were woken up by loud music, and at night you can hear people socializing right outside their rooms. The pool also seemed to be used mostly by long-term residents rather than short-term hotel guests. Unfortunately, the rooms were not very clean. The chairs were heavily stained, which made the space feel poorly maintained. Another issue was the bathroom—there’s no fan, so it gets very steamy. You can see signs of wear on the metal fixtures and hangers because of the moisture. Opening the bathroom window for ventilation wasn’t ideal either, as it looks out onto trailers. It’s unfortunate because the property seems neglected in terms of maintenance and basic hotel upkeep. That said, the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful, which was a positive. Overall, we would not return.

Clean room for the most part, stayed in two different rooms. The first one was further away from the lobby so the WiFi didn’t work nor did the AC. The second one was closer to the lobby, the WiFi worked and the AC was in better condition. So luck of the draw!

Room was clean, wifi was good, parking was safe. Overall, it met our needs of the trip. If I was staying longer, I would like a workout area in addition to the pool area.

I requested a bottom floor to was told at first they were all sold out at 6pm then I was told for $30 more on a $60 reservation that they could put me on the bottom level we were put on the second floor the same room I've had before the air and heater still wasn't fixed. the phone was not working as we were having problems with neighbors with loud music and reving up their motorcycle after midnight couldn't climb to front desk to complain then leaving trying to walk down the stairs my daughter caught me just before I fell the last 4 steps! I would have sued if I had fallen I've just had surgery and wasn't supposed to climb. we have been to this hotel at least 2 times a month for the last 2 years we will not be back!!!!

Parking fine and safe. Some roaches. "Upgraded" rooms cost more so make sure to select the "Upgraded" when using the room selection in Hotels.com. They wanted another $10 per night for me to get my choice on site. No roaches on my last visit, so they need to fumigate?

Everything was great. Besides the extreme noises from next door rooms. The banging on walls was extremely hard. We had to call help desk to let them know. Besides that issue the place was great. Location has many great restaurants, gas stations, near and freeway access. Thank you.

No internet

Water didn’t drain when showering. Toilet didn’t flush properly. The dinning table both chairs were ripped and had stains.The section I was sleeping (outside door area) in smelled really bad (weed) mattress were bumpy. I did mentioned the shower and toilet to the front desk once I checked out.

Room was under whelming, strong smell of cleaning products. Room was only cleaned every other day even though room service was requested. Still a decent stay for the price. Not the best part of town and also the last few days were terrible due to very very noisy second floor renters.

Overal our stay was ok, however, we thought the rate we were given was all we hadbto pay. We were surprised with a deposit we were not counting on, and were told a refund of said deposit would take several days after our check out.

I got up early to go home and there was no one in the office to check me out at 5am. I called backed to inform them I would not be able to stay another night and no one answered my call. This was my second stay at Palmeras. Had a great experience last time, so I booked again. Location close to Sweetwater Park and Westfield Plaza Bonita Mall. Room 145 with accessibility. Door sign "Do Not Disturb" is always appreciated. Window had shutters instead of mural shade, which was good for night light. Fridge and microwave were relocated in the bathroom, cutting down on white noise in the middle of the night. Handheld shower was nice. Single knob for water was difficult to shut off, so it dripped. Hot water was almost instant. Hair dryer didn't work, unfortunately, but I brought mine. Toiletries included: shampoo and conditioner, body wash, hand soap, and lotion. Towels and bed sheets were white and smelled clean. Complimentary coffee: only 1 included, which was nice for the morning I had to pack up. A staff came over to give me a courtesy knock about checking out. Overall, a comfortable stay.

The night we stayed a group of bikers were being rowdy with engines roaring well past 2 AM. The room left much to be desired, i expected much better for what i paid. Do not recommend.

At first glance the room looked fine, but the closer we looked, the worse it became. Furniture and chairs were visibly stained, there was debris left in the bathroom, fixtures felt worn or loose, and multiple maintenance issues were noticeable. It quickly became clear the room had not been properly deep cleaned. There were burn marks on the bathroom door and other surfaces that appeared to have been painted over rather than properly repaired or replaced, which felt like an attempt to cover damage instead of fixing it. There was also a strong artificial fragrance/chemical smell throughout the room, like odors were being masked rather than properly treated. It seemed like heavy scents were being used to hide underlying smells instead of proper ventilation or proper odor removal, which was uncomfortable and concerning. The overall property felt unsafe, with questionable activity around the area, and we did not feel comfortable staying the night. We left immediately and did not use the room. We were told we would receive a full refund since we did not stay, but only the deposit was returned. The online photos did not accurately reflect the current condition of the property. I would not recommend staying here.

It's impossible to find a better place to stay at this low cost price. The staff was friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this place.

The staff was fine. The room had only one chair which seemed strange in a room with two beds. Also, the heater didn’t work. I noticed that there was no coffee. There was a coffee maker, cups, sugar and creamer, but no coffee.

The staff were very rude, awkward and disrespectful..the way they talk and act is very unprofessional ..I had no privacy whatsoever, 2 different employees disturbed my peace by knocking on my door. One of those times was at 3 am while I was sleeping. I had the worst experience ever. I was playing music at a very minimum volume on Saturday at 4:00 pm and I was given a warning because supposedly the music was too loud. At the 3rd day when I checked out they deducted $25 for late fee from the day before, but my payment wasn’t late becthe the front desk lady had given me a verbal opportunity to pay as soon as I fixed my card payment issue. To top it off they put me on the Do Not Rent list. I did nothing wrong and I don’t think it’s fair I was treated with poor customer service. They evaded my privacy and they harassed me about a lot of things that aren’t true.

I had originally booked just Friday night, but wanted to add Saturday night to avoid a 3 hour late night drive after a long day. I made a mistake booking the second night, and has to reach out to my booking agency to resolve that issue. Once I had verified with my agent, I went down down to verify it with the front desk. They assured me i had the same room for both nights. Went i returned to the hotel around 8 pm i found my key didn’t work and lights on in the room. The front desk confirmed they had rented my room out, saying my booking agents canceled it. They had no other rooms forcing me to have to drive 3 hours home after a very long day.

I had a reservation for tonight. I arrived at 3 PM to check in time to find out that they had canceled my reservation because they needed rooms. What in the world is the point in having a reservation? The lady was kind of rude about it stating simply they were sold out and needed the rooms and that supposedly someone tried to call me earlier in the day to see if I still wanted my reservation, which not only did I not receive any calls, but is certainly not the standard in the hotel industry to call someone while they’re traveling and ask if they still want their reservation that they made. They argued back-and-forth a few times ultimately, she gave me a room for the price that I was originally booked for, but I wouldn’t stay here again based solely on that interaction & apparent policy regarding reservations

Staff members were very courteous and helpful. I reported to staff that Room 145 had a lot of rust on most metal surfaces in the bathroom.

Clean, hot shower, fridge, microwave, black out shade, great mattress, staff took delivery of many packages, lots of parking and no reports of theft or damage during my two weeks, good value, central location, 5-10 minutes walk to the Trolley, bus service near by, many businesses as well.

Only you could improve the doors to have them in better condition. The front door lockset does not function properly. The door at the bottom of the bathroom was wrecked, and there was an unfinished detail in the bathroom, like the floor and the tab.

This is my second time at Palmeras, it’s clean it’s comfy it has great rates and , don’t be shy about it not being a “well-known brand” because I’ve stayed in a few of those in San Diego… and the Palmeras beats a lot of them by every single metric.

The first room I stayed in had a very strong smell, also the ceiling right above the sink was dripping water.

We were able to park right in front of our room. The three employees we met as we were checking in were extremely helpful and patient with us. They could see we were having some difficulty with a gift card and let us know we had plenty of time to figure it out and to let them know when we were ready to check in. If it wasn't for their great customer service, I most likely would have left. The room did need a little bit of TLC which we were not concerned with. The bed was very clean and comfortable. Loved that the bathroom had body lotion and liquid hand soap not those little ugly bar soaps like the majority of the hotels have. And the big bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the shower? Good Job!!! Yes ! I will stay there again . Yes! I would recommend this hotel. My review is making me want to go back again. Thank you ladies for being so helpful. Greatly appreciated.

The front desk employee was very nice, everything was clean and comfortable, but I would never stay here again. The window didn’t securely close, and had a back up track lock that didn’t even have the screw to lock it. The bathroom window overlooks a trailer park and also didn’t secure. The shower had like 15% water pressure, so it basically drizzled out of the shower head and you barely had any water to wash with. If you don’t care about security/safety or an actual shower, the rest was great.

The room smelled like it was freshly cleaned, I like a clean smell so this was comforting to me. The bed sheets were comfortable and the room was spacious even though it looked small on the outside.

The room itself we had to leave property to use the restroom because our toilet would not flush went to speak to the people in the front office don’t remember her name but she was about to grab me a plunger I informed her that it is not clogged we did not use the toilet because all it does is swirl it does not rise nor does it go down well at 9am a maintenance worker shows up and he did not know what the problem was because he told me it’s because of the rain and he left with out the toilet being fixed when asked if I could move room the lady said it would be a $25 charge unless the toilet could not be fix no customer service there but then Alyssa stepped in and assisted me the rest of the way even after being moved 3times In one day so I will not be a return customer sorry Alyssa

Uncomfortable bed, AC unit spit out water, coffee in room was pretty bad, etc. But you get what you pay for. I guess you cant find decent lodging nowadays for under $100 a night. The $200 deposit taking from me before being allowed to checked in. That could have been all the money i have. This was never mentioned upon booking.

Run down more like a motel then hotel

We had to put a towel in the tub.so we can stand in it to shower at one point it felt like someone was trying to open our door and consistently knocking on it it's a no all over for me

Our stay was amazing, the only thing I wish i was told was about the deposit and the amount, but besides that the room was comfortable and clean and parking was perfect and convenient! i would definitely stay again and recommend to others!

Better Customer Service at least tell him to smile when they’re waiting on you cause we sure did not get one. She looks snobby.

This places advertisements are not actually what you get its ran down it smells yucky we stayed for 7 days had to buy our own toilet paper kept calling front desk for some never got any the people upstairs were so rude and would bang and make loud noise all through the night called front desk to tell them to please have respect for the neighbors and they started making more noise. If you’re looking for relaxation peace quiet this is not the place to do so.

The staff was very nice and professional. Our room key never worked they tried multiple times. The bathroom door did not shut properly. the location is just not so desirable not much the staff can control about that. The guest that stayed there were loud the music was on at a ridiculous volume until like 330 am someone there asked for money while i went to my car. The room was very clean and smelled good.

This is absolutely not a 7 it is more like a 4. The place is falling apart. It needs an upgrade.

My room was very nice and clean . I had a goodnight sleep. I would definitely go back again .

We checked in and upon entering the room left immediately it was dirty there was roaches crawling around outside. It was loud the people that hung around outside looked scary and sketchy. Looked and felt and sounded like apartment living. Was looking for an affordable spot by Sea World for one night. Left immediately upon arrival. The front desk guy was nice though.

We were locked out of both rooms on the second day of our stay. The front desk worker was dismissive and rude. We were late for an event and she made me wait in line to get back into a room that I had already paid for. Both rooms had a strong unpleasant odor. I had to buy air fresheners and open windows to tolerate the smell.

Nice little hotel stay for a day. When i come back to visit i will stay here again.

Room was very clean and spacious (for handicap). Loved the dual shades: daylight for privacy and darkening had sunset view with a sailboat. Fridge had a clicking sound when it turned on. Drawers were great for food storage. Full set of toiletries (wall mounted). Hair dryer was an added bonus. Sink was clogged but drained slowly. Clean towels and bed sheets. Great value. Located on main street. Nearby shopping, dining, and trolley. Perfect spot for touring.

The room I stayed in had a smell of cleaning equipment and a noise that was making me sleep late at night.

Lately I've been a frequent guest at this hotel. My partner and I have been staying here at least once a month over the last year. The location is ideal, being that I live in the area and the price is on point. The surrounding area is decent and has a little bit of everything for everyone. From dining, to shopping, to public transportation, etc. Being so close to the freeway has its pros and cons. The property itself is nice. For an older property, it has some nice updates that make it feel more modern and up to date without breaking the bank and having the cost of those upgrades being passed onto the guest. I love that parking is free, regardless how many vehicles you have and checking in and out is simple. Of all the stays I've had here, I've only ever had one issue, and that was that our phone in our room didn't work, which made checking out a little less ideal. There's no way to check out via the TV and because the phone was out of order, I was forced to stand in line at front desk, with 5 other people in front of me, and only 1 front desk agent. Again, it was a one time thing and it's no biggie. It didn't affect anything aside from departing. All in all, Hotel Palmeras has become one of my favorite hotels to stay at due to price, location, and value. I'd recommend this hotel to others who want a decent, affordable hotel without breaking the bank.

Hotel is good to stay for the price. There are just two things I would like to mention: first, Bathtub is incredibly slippery and it's dangerous to stay taking shower. Second, room had not enough working electrical receptacles. I couldn't safely use my computer because there was no working receptacle in the table proximity.

I reserved the room and did everything and they came back with wanting a 200 dollar deposit that was not mentioned until after I arrived which became a waste of time.

There is black mold above the shower. It looks like maintenance tries to patch it, there’s clearly a leak.

The only bad thing about the hotel was that the window AC was in the bathroom where it wouldn't get the room cold. The beds are okay not the best for comfort.

So far, so good! Don’t let this place fool you. It may look old, but once you’re in your room, it feels like a Best Western, yet it’s affordable. The downside is that the WiFi isn’t great.

The hotel has been updated and is in excellent condition. Clean and comfortable. The staff were very attentive and helpful. I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality for the price—my highest recommendation for a low-priced hotel.

The room had this strong smell ans you open the door and the bed was not comfortable and the bedspread was so wormed out , and I did not feel safe , homeless people around the property .

Well. Very old looking. Pain on the door was peeling. Overall an old and smaily room. Maybe it was my room only. No one cared much to keep it clean. No hanger on bathroom door. I guess you get what you pay for. Will not go there im the future.

The pictures on Expedia do not represent the property accurately. Although our hotel did seem clean, the baseboards were disgustingly dirty.The doors were filthy on the inside, bith front & the restroom. If you have no other choice, then this would be a hotel for you to stay. I did not do my research and I will never stay here again on top of this being a very low budget hotel, They charge a $100 deposit which is outrageous for this type of hotel.. i took the word of a family member because they booked here. But I am a Marriott girl this was not for me.. besides the hotel being very old, its kind on firty on the outside as well. the rooms were kind of updated.The staff was friendly our cleaning lady Enid was very nice and helpful. As soon as we checked in, we had to ask Her to come and clean one of the walls because there was a big dead spider on it. We literally stayed 24 hours. Our room key never worked, twice we stepped out, twice we had to go to the front office. Then we had to wait about 10 minutes for someone to come up and try to open our door.

The experience was very average and nothing extraordinary.

Get a better hotel with $20 extra

At first I was a little skeptical because of the area, but it was a very peaceful stay. Friendly staff, there was a fridge, microwave, table and roku.

You might as well stay at a Motel 6 if you plan on going here. We arrived at night and outside was full of tweakers. There was people outside yelling and stomping at 2 am. Some woman tried opening our door at midnight. I would rather pay the extra money and stay at a nicer place, especially if youre with your family.

The AC unit was installed on the back side of the room near the bathroom what makes inconvenient to get cool during hot days and to cold when you near bathroom. The back top window also make it inconvenient because of to much light in the morning and you can’t cover it. The area feels very unsafe and people around looks strange and scary.

Only a family nextdoor. Kids made some noise. But all else was good.

Room had mold on windows, toilets, mini fridge and AC. Room stunk and things were rusty. It was noisy and a lot of action at night. I never received my deposit back. Had to file a dispute with my bank. Would never stay there again!

Late checkout was only noon. But other than that nothing bad to say. Staff was really nice and accommodating.

Room was just overly dirty. The whole entrance door was covered in dirty handprints. Bedsheets had stains, pillowcases had stains, AC was not working properly, Bathroom was dirty, lack of wall plugs and the plugs on the nightstands did not work.

Upon arrival there were prostitutes, homeless people and other activities at hotel. We felt unsafe and could not stay. We asked for a refund but was refused. We traveled well over 4 hours to get there and could not find a place to stay. We really would like a refund for the 4 rooms we booked.

The room was fine except for the bathroom layout. Having the air conditioner right next to the sink was annoying and the lack of outlets in the area near the beds proved frustrating. The area outside was noisy with cars revving their engines and people being loud.

We couldn't use our room for one whole day because the toilet and sewage backed up and backed up into the bath/shower. It was the whole side we were staying on and they did not communicate a resolution until we went to the office to ask what they were doing to make this right. They finally moved us to another room that was way better but we had to go to the office to find this out. We did not get a call or any communications!

No hot water for shower

Second time staying at this place and there was no hot water in the bathroom on both occassions.

I did not feel safe my room the door was sketchy and a saw at least 3 prostitutes. I was moved rooms do to the bed being… stained. The new room had an even sketchier door on it.

This has been the worst place I’ve ever stayed in!! If you love yourself and your family please do not stay here!!! People fighting, screaming all night long outside our room. This stay was horrible to say the least!!!

Highly don’t recommend staying here. The atmosphere wasn’t the best. The customer service wasn’t great. The outside of the building doesn’t even look like the pictures. So just be mindful when booking to stay somewhere

The room was not at all as described. The door wouldn't lock and maintenance was required. It was dirty, and the bathroom window had no screen, and these insects flew in. There were loud guests and even a domestic violence situation in the room next to us.

Unfortunately, we did not have a great experience during our stay. The hotel’s infrastructure doesn’t seem very solid, as we could hear everything from the surrounding rooms and hallways. It was extremely noisy throughout the night, which made it very difficult to get any deep sleep.

check in staff was awesome. our upstairs neighbors on the first night kept us up at night. our room was clean but there was trash in parking lot and outside our door.
