Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Conover (Hickory Area) by IHG

The room and hotel was very clean. It felt very safe and well maintained. The breakfast on day 1 was great and well stocked. My daughter was able to find many things she liked and there were potein options like cheese omelets. The elevator was never busy and we did not have to wait. They offered Dove products in the bathroom. The room had a decent sized mini fridge and microwave. It is located a very short walk to a circle K that had a VERY friendly staff and great slushies my daughter enjoyed. Night 1 - fire alarm caused an evacuation at 5:40am. The staff never addressed the guests about the incident in anyway. The fire fighters came out to let the guests back in and the staff went behind the desk not talking with any guests. This was not comforting to my young child that was scared. Day 2 - the breakfast was pretty empty by 9am. Many items were out including toast, pancakes, biscuits, eggs, and cinnamon rolls. The attendant seemed very frazzled and was not being very productive in her efforts. We waited for more than 15 minutes and she still had not filled the pancake machine, or filled the bread for toast. She was annoyed that people were waiting and stocked the fridge with milk instead of breakfast items that should be pre made like muffins, bread, pancake batter. AC in room was very loud! It worked well but could be heard from outside the room door when running. Also a wasp nest was in the window.

The shower had the normal body wash, shampoo and conditioner pumps, which is nice. Breakfast was also as expected: eggs, sausage, oatmeal, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, yogurt, pastries, fruit, and those glorious cinnamon rolls. Also, they have the newer grind-on-demand coffee machines, which are especially good for those of us who drink decaf. Parking was a little tight, but we found a spot.

Really like the room and the location. We didn't have a lot of noise so that was a plus. We would have loved an indoor pool. Just a little bit of touching up.There were some pillows and mattress starting to get tore out but we were so tired did not pay attention til morning. Just saying you are going to be needing new ones before long.

The price was a bit high but it was worth spending extra to be so comfortable.

Room was nice but had some issues. The AC unit was right by the bed so you either had to be hot or have air blowing right in your face all night. Toilet and tub was unusually small. You can't take a real bath with 5 inches of water. The housekeeping staff did bare minimum. Didn't empty bedroom trash or turn down the linens. Toiletries and coffee stuff were not replaced etc. Overall it was average. Not what I expected for the cost.

The hotel was spotless, and the staff was incredibly helpful and polite. The breakfast was hot and well-prepared, and the cook replenished the food promptly, ensuring that nothing ran out. As people came and went from the kitchen, the cook engaged in friendly conversations with everyone. It’s worth mentioning that the cook also served as the cleaner, and all the tables were quickly cleaned after each meal. The coffee was replenished just as quickly. I’ve noticed such exceptional service from staff who often go unnoticed during my stays. This cook did her job with a smile and joy, truly making a difference.

The hotel is extremely clean. The breakfast was delicious with so many options. Certainly not a continental. The staff was extremely helpful, particularly Lexi at the Front Desk who answered all our questions with a smile. Will definitely stay there again!

Great price and great breakfast

The breakfast was a letdown. Unless you arrived right at 6 AM when it was first put out, the food was cold and not restocked, especially the hot items they advertise. They also promote soundproof rooms, which is far from accurate. We could clearly hear the guests in the room next to us talking and watching TV. On top of that, people were lingering and talking loudly in the hallways at 1–2 AM. I understand some hallway noise as guests come and go, but late-night disruptions should be monitored and addressed by staff. After being on the road for over 10 hours, getting a good night’s sleep shouldn’t be too much to expect. The bathroom needed better upkeep. The shower curtain had some mold, and the overall appearance felt neglected. The pillows were also extremely uncomfortable, which only added to the poor sleep experience. Overall, this stay did not meet the standards I expect from a Holiday Inn Express.

The breakfast in the morning was absolutely amazing! The beds were very comfortable the linen looked new! I think each bed had 4 pillows that were very comfortable! This is definitely one of the best hotel experiences I have had! Thank you Holiday Inn! You did a 5 star job!

Great place to stay

We had a good stay. The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean and well maintained. Breakfast was pretty typical for this type of hotel, with good hot and cold selections available. No frills rooms, but the TV and internet worked well. The area was safe and there was ample parking. I would definitely stay there again.

Beds/mattresses are more comfortable than any hotel we've stayed in previously. The linen service was excellent as well as the bathroom supplies (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body wash). Very good quality. Breakfast was delicious and great variety. This hotel is in near new condition and was a very pleasant stay.

For those of you that hate motel coffee makers, we were pleased to find a Keurig coffee maker in the room.

It was really clean and seemed fairly new!

The hotel only has one elevator. The walls were extremely thin. I could hear my neighbors on both sides. When the person above me would walk around I heard every step. I was woken at 3:30 to an employee vacuuming the hall way. Employee said it was a requirement and they could not stop.

Staff were always friendly and efficient. Beds were comfortable. All of my family members enjoyed the biscuits and gravy at breakfast. Appreciated the Dove toiletry products. The hotel seemed well sound proofed. My room was quiet.

Food from next door. Caleb looked at me like I just spoke to him in Chinese. He said he would try to find something and arrive at my door reasonably in time with a wheelchair. I said let me try to make this work. Caleb was very nice but it was an odd chair. One final point the floor into the bathroom from the hall is uneven and I tripped on it at least twice

Nice secluded location in the Hickory area. Travelled with my son for the weekend for a tournament being held at the convention center. The suite was larger than expected and priced very well given the proximity to the convention center(about 10 min drive) during a weekend that multiple events were running. The complimentary breakfast was better than many hotels I’ve stayed included a selection of several hot options, on demand pancakes and the standard cold/dry food breakfast fare. Nearby dining/convience shopping was a bit limited but within a 5-10 drive there was whatever you would need. Well worth the couple extra minutes to save 100$ per night for nicer more roomy accommodations.

This is my “Go-To spot” whenever I am traveling in the Hickory area. Staff is always friendly and attentive.

The parking was easy. It was near a shopping plaza. There was a Mexican restaurant in the parking lot. They had a hot breakfast until 10am that had a lot of good food!

The service was ourstanding. Brrakfast was plentiful. Room was spacious.

The one-bedroom suite is a great option for families, with den & kitchen areas separate from the bedroom. The den and bedroom each had its own television and thermostat. The kitchen included a full-size refrigerator, a Keurig coffeemaker, and a bar with two bar stools. Good breakfast, clean and attractive hotel, quiet area.

Very nice facility. After the first night, the lock failed on our room and we were locked out. The manager was able to get us in and immediately upgraded us to a nicer room. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Breakfast was good, with lots to choose from. We would definitely stay here again.

Very upset with Hotels.com. I book three rooms for my family, and due to messiness (and no human customer service) at Expedia, my guest were charged instead of me. Desk clerk advised that Expedia has become a problem and that prices are better if you call them directly. I miss Hotels.com, and like am now a "past" customer.

room was not properly stocked (no coffee cups), trash bags laided over can, not installed. Light switch in bedroom did nothing. Need better directions for remote. Should have information bar on remote/tv so you know what is on a TV channel.

Kaleb and the entire staff are absolutely amazing. The location is perfect if you want quiet peaceful surroundings. This is the best Holiday Inn I have ever stayed at. I definitely recommend this hotel. We stayed 4 nights.

I stayed at this hotel this past weekend. It looks to be newly renovated. It was clean, quiet, nice free breakfast, and most of the staff was very friendly and helpful! I will be staying here again on furture trips to this area.

They double booked my room and left my family in the rain. We drove 12 hours from STL, only to get there to find out we didn't have a room. I booked 5 months in advance... garbage company will never recommend

The property was wonderful & the room clean and comfortable. Did not like the fact that the minute I arrived and walked towards the front doors to enter the building, there were a few guys smoking pot outside near the entrance. The smell was so strong. I was shocked they were so bold about it.

We have been staying at this property for several years when we come to the mountains. We will continue to stay here! Clean, great customer service, the breakfast is a must!!!! I recommend this place highly!!!!

Caleb checked me into the hotel. He was friendly and nice. The room was clean. Bed is obviously well used based on the dents, but it is comfortable enough. Not a lot of TV channels, but they had one I liked. The hotel was quite and clean. I would recommend it.

This is probably the nicest Holiday Inn I’ve stayed in. If we come back to the area again, I would definitely stay here. The breakfast was great, with hot and cold options. My only complaint would be that the room we stayed in had to queen size beds and the one I slept in had a big yellow stain in the middle of the fitted sheet. Other than that it’s a very nice hotel.

Front desk staff wee welcoming and efficient. No complaints!
