The property is beautiful and spotless! It's a perfect location, right on the beach. It has a restaurant, room service, pool, hot tub, game area, and a workout room. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Staff will set up chairs and an umbrella for you right on the beach. It has a nice area to eat with multiple options about three blocks away. It's perfect to walk. The only downside is parking at the hotel is $45 a night, which is very high. However, if you're willing to walk, drive around and find free parking. I would definitely recommend this resort.

We ended up in a very noisy area of the hotel. Next to the elevator, 3rd floor and perhaps near a cleaning closet. Also, the seagulls perch right above the roomand woke us all up through the night and morning. You can hear them squawking and depositing stuff on the roof. So we didn’t get the peace we really wanted during our stay. Make sure you don’t get room 300 when visiting, our friends were in different areas and had no problem.

Superb location on La Jolla shores beach. Coffee sutuation in room suboptimal - very weak brew. There was coffee in the lobby which was better but hit or miss as far as availability. Two issues: 1- parking $45/day (ouch); 2- “resort fee” $40/day. There was good wifi and folks to get you beach chairs and towels and a small gym but roll it into the price.

The view from our room was beautiful, and the direct beach access made everything so easy. The beach concierge was a standout—setting up umbrellas and chairs, plus offering boogie boards, which was a fun bonus. We also loved the pool and spa area, with plenty of lounge chairs in both sun and shade. The courtyard was perfect for families, with foosball, ping-pong, and other games to keep everyone entertained. In the evenings, the fire pits created a cozy atmosphere, and the s’mores kits from the restaurant were a great touch. The restaurant itself was fantastic—right on the sand with ocean views and fire pits. The food was very good, and everyone there was incredibly friendly. Service across the hotel was excellent. The front desk staff were very nice, check-in was smooth, and every employee we encountered went above and beyond. The underground parking with elevator access was super convenient, and the location is ideal—walking distance to great restaurants, coffee, and ice cream. We had a great trip and will definitely be back. They’ve earned a customer for life!

Very bad service the first room they gave us smelled horrible like a cigarette like a dog I don't know I know it's happy with the animals but it should also be clean they told us that they were going to change us to 1/4 the next day they didn't move us from a single bed and then another room and in the end they were moving it until the third day to another similar room they said I will open but it was two beds the same and for the last thing, it was a color person at the restaurant. That’s the only one who treat us with respect really nice person. I just forgot her name, but she was so sweet. Also, the guy on the front desk he trying to do everything to help us. I think he’s Hispanic tall guy really nice guy he trying to do the best as they can but other people know they don’t find any solution for our problem. I know the location is nice but the service and the cleaning stuff they’re not.

Nice hotel and great location. But misleading regarding the business center and pool. I stayed here because it advertised a 24/7 business center but the business center is in the lobby with no privacy at all. I had to do private work calls and had to do them outside in the cold since I wasn’t going to take calls in the lobby. The pool also was under construction which was not disclosed until we checked into the hotel. Our room key never worked our entire stay to exit the parking garage so we always had to call for help and they still expected us to pay the $45 nightly parking fee. I wouldn’t stay here again.

An absolute dream stay right on the beach! If you're traveling with kids, this location is unbeatable and super accessible. The food at the restaurant was delicious, but the real highlight for us was the huge courtyard and patio. The kids had a blast playing cornhole, ping-pong, and foosball while we relaxed by the firepits in the evening. There was a bit of daytime construction noise from one side of the hotel, but it didn't get in the way of our fun. We'd definitely stay here again!

I would not stay at La Jolla Shores again. The property is in need of serious investment. My room was out of the ‘80s - an in-window AC, zero electric plugs on the desk or night stand (yes you have to get on your knees to plug in your phone charger), the beds had body divots from lots (decades?) of use, the tub had a crack, the sliding screen door frame to the patio was bent and off its track, and the AC was not on when I arrived, so there was a noticeable musty smell. And, starting at 8am on Saturday morning construction crews were at it with very loud machinery (would have been nice if the hotel notified guests of the construction prior to booking).

This is a great location on a beautiful beach. We had a deluxe king room with beach view, 2 nights. Ended up on first floor, balcony is badly designed with pillars in the middle and a railing blocking the view. Housekeeping never came. Asked for at least tissues and empty garbage. No one came. The bar and restaurant get close to 5 stars. Outside seating was very fun for pre-dinner drinks and app. Breakfast was great. We have eaten dinner there previously as we are local, and this was a staycation for our anniversary. So we know the restaurant. Dinner is good, not great. Construction on other half, pool closed. Hotel is older.

We booked our stay back in January for the end of April. I got a call from the hotel about 3 days before our stay asking if we would be willing to change from a king room to 2 queens. I told them that we would really like to have the king if it’s available. They told me it would be a huge help if we were able to change rooms. So for their convenience I told them that was fine. I was told that since I was willing to do so I would get 2 night free of my stay. We just go back from our vacation and I have yet to receive anything indicating that’s happening. But I will obviously give it some time to work itself out. I mentioned it also to the front desk person at check in and she knew nothing about it and no notes were placed on our account about that conversation. So that makes me nervous. Our stay was pretty good over all. We had a ground floor ocean side room. I know the hotel cant really help it but the beach does get very busy right outside the sliding window. So during the day when we were in our hotel room it didn't feel like we had much privacy unless we closed the curtain. That didn’t bother us too much but a room on a higher floor would of been more ideal if your wanting a nice view. The AC unit was definitely working extra hard to get cooler airflow. The staff was accommodating when I needed extra blankets and towels. The restaurant at the hotel was good and the service was great. The location has a lot to offer and it’s a nice quiet area at night.

The staff was very helpful and the location was great for the beach. We didn't try the hotel restaurant but the outdoor restaurant seating has a beautiful view of the beach. Check-in and check-out was easy. The maid service was great, too. The room was quiet and the little patio overlooking the courtyard was pleasant (complete with a friendly seagull we name "Ernie". As of April 2026, the hotel was under construction so that made access and using the underground garage ($45 per day) a little difficult since the access road was sometimes partially blocked due to construction. The pool was closed due to construction. The interior of our room in the yet-to-be-rebuilt part of the hotel was dated (think 1970's). There was an odor as we entered that smelled musky but later was fine as we ran the A/C and opened the patio door. There was only one electrical outlet easily available, so I was glad I had my 12 foot extension cord for the CPAP and phone charging. The shower was located over the bathtub (old style) and the faucet was always leaking.

So the pool and hot tub were under construction, but they did offer a transport to another close pool if we wanted. The location was perfect, they staff was super helpful. The restaurant was completely booked and we didn't realize it was reservation only but they offered us carryout. The only complaint I really have is that it was super loud, the walls were like thin or our neighbors were loud! Also the screen on the balcony would get jammed and we hard to open and shut. Do not stay here. The property is under construction. It is so bad at 3.30/4pm when the workers were finishing they were brushing dust off the roof into the common areas. You can’t enter the hotel as it’s all closed down the main entrance lobby with construction cones and workers. There was concrete grinding at the lobby and constant banging. Endless dust everywhere. They had the audacity to charge me $40 a night resort fee - there was no pool it’s closed under construction and terrible $10 beach chairs for beach use whilst listening to banging. At check out I was informed of use of another local hotel pool - might have been useful information at check in. In all I paid in excess of $400 a night for two nights with all their fees- please please trust me stay elsewhere. Cancel - do whatever you need to do just do not stay here right now - they should not be open to the public.

Stayed on the 3rd floor, room 337. The room felt slightly compact, and the balcony had a pillar that partially blocked the view, so it wasn’t very open. However, the staff were excellent—very friendly, polite, and helpful with great recommendations. There is EV charging available and the parking area feels safe and secure. Overall, it was a very good stay. During our visit, there was some exterior maintenance, so it could be a bit noisy in the morning, but it was still manageable.

The room was cleaned daily and done fine. There was no hairdryer and we did have to ask for a microwave. The gym was mediocre at best. There is no onsite parking and the hotel will charge you $45 a day to park. We were able to find parking on nearby streets. They do charge a resort fee of $40 a day to stay on top of what you’ve already paid for your stay. The place is under construction and there was no pool to use along with construction work starting at 7am and going the entire day. You are given beach towels, umbrella and chairs on the beach (which was nice). But again the construction noise is constant.

-AC is a box ac unit and made a horribly loud noise all night long and did not work in general. - the door to the patio to enjoy the view of the ocean was broken and so we were unable to open the screen door at all. -the shower had a leak and leaked all over the floor when on - the shower also wouldn’t turn off so it constantly dripped -the duvet cover was just two sheets put together - the door to the toilet and shower cannot open all the way because of the toilet so you have to wiggle your way in in order to close/open the door. -it was only after confirming our reservation we were told the pool and pool area was going to be closed during our stay. I’m understanding of renovations, but prices should be lower and reflect it due to the disruption of the renovations The only positive was the location of the hotel. Overall extremely disappointed in this experience with the price we paid for the room. Will not be returning or recommending.

Loved how easily accessible it was to the beach, pool and local shops/restaurants. We were able to walk everywhere within La Jolla Shores and surrounding areas (1.5-2mi walk with a bit of hills but still very approachable and able to walk with a double stroller). Property also had daily activities like making bracelets, sno-cones, s’mores, kids trivia, and ping pong tournaments.

This 3star hotel is a nice ocean front restaurant with a motel. It is worse than most of Extended Stay. The lobby is probably less than 80 square feet barely fitting one sofa chair and some chairs. The wall of two tiny elevators was covered with boards and full of urine smell. My daughter would rather carry the suitcase using stairs. The guest laundry room was impossible to find. You have to go through a garage/storage area filled with retired furniture. The poor is under construction and you have a take shuttle to use it in other property, which was conveniently not mentioned in its website or Expedia. You only found out after booking it. The east side of the hotel is a construction site, which has surely made you aware of it in the morning. One of the rooms I booked didn’t even have a desk. The only good thing about this rundown hotel was the staff. They were very helpful.

What a beautiful beach. We stayed in a beach front room and it was beautiful. Great view and we slept with the sliding door open listening to the beach waves while we fell asleep. The beds were very comfortable. Everything was clean and even though they were renovating the pool/spa area we enjoyed the rest of the property. They had fire pits and games in the outdoor common area. But you can’t beat the location. We were able to walk to the restaurants and shops in just a few minutes, and were just steps away from the beach. Perfect location. I be would caution about bird poop, the balcony had a lot of birds flying in and I stepped in poop in bare feet, so make sure you wear sandals or shoes, or look where you step on the balcony.

La Jolla Shores was the best place to stay and enjoy the beach without crowds, sand or carrying a bunch of stuff to the beach. Open your patio door and you are there. Beach and waves in front of you. Room is spotless, crisp sheets, supportive mattress. Best customer service I’ve ever experienced before, during and after leaving the property. Breakfast on the beach - the best French toast of my life - was like a dream. There is a reason this place has remained as a staple for well heeled travelers. It is simply the best.

I just visited with my 2 teenagers - boy/girl twins 16 yo. This was our 1rst time to La Jolla. We stayed 4 nights. Was a little concerned when I read about the hotel. being old. I LOVED this hotel. it literally has everything.. The free coffee in the morning at the restaurant was such a nice treat in the am. The patio is beachfront and a great place to watch the surfers or just stare out at the ocean and listen to the sounds. We had an umbrella and chairs set up 2 of the days - the boys at the beach stand are so helpful and polite. The pool and hot tub were a bit monopolized at times by a large family but it wasn't that big of a deal for us. I enjoyed watching the fabulous sunset from the front "lawn" area in the Adirondack chairs listening to nice background music. The restaurant is so convenient and has great food albeit a bit on the expensive side. The location for this hotel is so easy to access I- 5. The kids and I walked to La Jolla Cove the first day - some of it was on a major road. it was about 1.5-2 miles to the Cove. We did not rent a car - we have Ubered whenever we wanted to go to a different area. Low Key mellow vibe! Relaxing, peaceful, comfortable beds. Yes the hotel could use a few upgrades but there is nothing urgent. The outdoor patio space is nice and

My main issue however is that I selected this property based on location (and previous stay) for a quiet, peaceful beach retreat. This was true most evenings except Friday night when the hotel had an event it the courtyard within a few feet of my window involving very loud (and really bad) karaoke until late in the night. When I commented about this at the front desk I was told that:" Weddings are always more fun when you are invited." I'm still trying to wrap my head around that one. Was it my fault for staying at the hotel without being invited to the random wedding outside my window? In any case be aware of events in the courtyard if interested in quiet location.

I wouldn’t recommend La Jolla Shores Hotel. First, $40 day with your reservation for 2 daily water bottles basically because we didn’t get the rest of the promised benefits of the $40. One of our rooms my family stayed in was cleaned once and I had finally asked if they could clean it while we were out and the front desk said they’d take care of it, we came back to another day of no cleaning. The only service that was consistent was the kid taking us a chair and umbrella to the beach. The Restaurants overrated. Rooms outdated and our door was broken and we requested a room change or the door fixed at the front desk and we were told maintenance would be right over, it didn’t happen and at one point a man walked in on us because we didn’t shut the door (the broken way) we ended up using the chain while we stayed in and that worked as long as one of us wasn’t out while someone slept because the door to shut it was so loud that you wouldn’t be asleep after that. The amount of money we paid for those rooms I had hoped for much better quality service. Had it not been for the ocean walk of 5mins that would have been the worse hotel. They knew our concerns and they were aware we were unhappy when we filled the “How was your stay” questionnaire and I waited and hoped someone would have reached out before I wrote a review but that didn’t happen either.

During the first night, I felt ants crawling on my face, which woke me up and caused me stress! I asked to be changed to another room; the reaction when I reported the ants made me feel like the staff is not trained to handle any customer service issues. I would say a puzzled look was what I got; they did transfer me to a room on the second floor. (room 132 had the ants) Then a lady showed up at our new room and said she was told of ants in the bathroom- I had to tell her that it was the other room that had ants, and it was not the bathroom; this made me feel like there was a lot of miscommunication going on behind the scenes! The day we were leaving, the restaurant made us wait 30 minutes to get a table. And the pool is small and filled with screaming children horseplaying... Overall, I mostly liked sitting on the balcony looking at the ocean reading my book, but because of the inconveniences, it is not exactly worth the price. I asked for compensation regarding the inconvenience and they took $92 off my stay. FYI !

We paid for a beachfront balcony. Problem was that it was constantly dropping water from balcony above us (see image). I told the front desk but they insisted it was only condensation from the air conditioner above me. While it didn’t make sense to me given location of the leaks…in my mind it’s unacceptable to pay this much per night to have water dropping on us from balcony above. It’s a poor excuse at a $800-900/night price point. So we dealt with it. I can name a few other things I didn’t expect… door to room hard to open (told front desk about it as well), they sold us smores kits even though fire pits were about to shut down… Nothing horrible here…. But, in my mind, it is unacceptable at this price point Bottom line, I think the property needs to either 1) change its price point to set expectations lower, or 2) improve their property/service to align to the price point

The property is in a good location. It’s more like a motel than a hotel in that there are no hallways everything‘s outside. That’s not good or bad. It’s just the observation. The Property shows wear and tear, pretty dirty everywhere outside, especially stairwells. I might as well be walking up and down the steps in the hallways of the subway as dirty as they were. The parking is convenient and good for a hotel. Kitchen availabilities too limited, especially on the weekends. The doors had big gaps under them so we had spiders and bugs coming in on a regular basis. There’s one air conditioner in the wall along the sliding glass door and you have to keep that cranked to extremely cold just to cool the bathroom and the sink area. Overall, we dealt with it for three nights, but honestly, unless I don’t have any other choice, I’ll find elsewhere to stay.

We love the location of this hotel however it is very dated and needs modernising. Also, lots of young people kept using the hotel pool / hot tub who were not guests, they need to find a better way to stop this as it disrupts all hotel guests relaxing round the pool area.

Pillows are very flimsy. Adding better sturdier pillows to support the neck while sleeping would add to comfort.

Noisy rooms near pool and street. Not worth the cost. Next to ocean but air conditioners of other rooms drowned it out.

The AC was very noise. And the breakfast took forever, kind of cool of hot foods like it was sitting around after it’s been cooked. After the breakfast meal, When we paid for parking already .It wants to charge us again .

Worth the daily collection of kayaks, paddle boats, swimmers, SCUBA, and Surfers hit the waves. Different vibe from La Jolly yet close enough to visit that too. Great selection of shops, restaurants in a 4 block street, home to many different yet unique The hotel is a classic, and a great part of our stay in the San Diego!

Pleasantly surprised by this hidden gem. The hotel itself is a bit of a throwback, but don't let that fool you. The staff are really great and unpretentious, but dedicated to making your stay memorable. Location is excellent, right on the beach essentially. Walking distance to the small downtown of La Jolla Shores, which has several restaurants and bars and a couple of markets. We'd definitely stay again.

Property has severe differed maintenance with “paint on a pig” mentality. General areas are dirty and unclean. They need an extensive pressure wash and refinish. Chipped and broken tiles. Balcony flooring is dirty and worn. Ac window units for a “ luxury beach front hotel” . They have gone to great lengths to falsely or very questionably market and advertise this property- really for what it is not. . Not worth the price or stay. Also be warned , parking is $46 a night or you park on the street.

Location, location, location. The only comment I have is that when I called and asked about having pickleball facilities, they said “yes.” And again, when I checked in, they said “yes, right across the street, just go make a reservation at registration.” However, this is misleading — they are not available for use by hotel patrons. You can only schedule an intro lesson and you can not just go and play.

This hotel is all about location! We booked a coastline view and were in room 232. We were literally steps from the sand and we could watch the waves and the paragliders at torrey pines from our balcony. Carng service, a short walk to the shops and restaurants, and a short uber ride to the village or the gliderport. The hotel is a bit dated, but it's comfortable, convenient and the proximity and view of the beach are excellent. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

I wish the jacuzzi was a little bigger as 4 people filled it up and most of the time it was kids. Would like to come back again and wish you had a loyalty program.

We had an over all nice stay. Unfortunately on the second day we were informed that the power would go out in the early morning between 5:30 am-8am and that they had generators to fix it. Unfortunately, the power went out at 10 o’clock that night instead. We were all getting ready for bed. One of my children was in the shower and we never received any notification or warning. It was quite scary for me and my children. It was completely black on the property. It was out for about 45 minutes. I wish that the hotel would’ve reached out at some point to tell us what was going on when I asked in the morning the girl really had no information on what had happened. We received no apology for what had occurred. It was a disappointment and scary situation for our children.

Great location to walk to the beach and restaurants and bars in the area. The rooms could use some love and remodeling, it was hard to find plugs and the tv remote didn’t work. If you book with Expedia, there are a few fees you have to pay when you arrive at the hotel which was unexpected and quite pricey for es h night.

The hotel restaurant waiter was judgemental and rude and had to wait too long to get drinks to our table. The wait staff took to long recheck on us to see if we needed anything drinks ect. I feel that the service could have been better in the restaurant. Hotel ground for the most part were clean lots of bird poop on the handrail of the patios, couldn't lean up against the rails without getting poop on our arms and hands . The tile on the ground is very slippery when it wet out and should have signs that worn the guest safety first.
