The staff was nice, but this place is old and outdated. It does have some unique Scarface movie decor. The rooms are pretty tiny, and the mattresses were some of the WORST I've ever slept on, and that is the reason for 2 stars. Cruddy cheap mattresses are inexcusable at a hotel especially on the beach strip. Both beds had caved in cheap mattresses. Beach access is easy and across the street after passing through the beach volleyball courts. The Miami beach strip area adds 20% service fees to everything even just to stop and get a coffee to go...just FYI. Walking the strip at night reminds me of small beach Vegas theme without casinos but lots of lights and restaurants/bars. You'll see some interesting people. No issue with safety when we were there.

Absolutely the best location in Miami Beach! Three blocks from the MIA 150 bus stop, on the beach! And next door to a CVS grocery store. Walking distance to anything one could want to see or do. Perhaps not for princesses, as the building is 91 years old, and their handyman is no Michaelangelo. I plan to stay here again, DV. The only downside is that the lobby and sidewalk are rented to a restaurant, so there is nowhere to sit and enjoy watching the world go by. The desk supplies beach towels and beach chairs, so I solved this problem by putting one of their beach chairs on the sidewalk on the beach side of Ocean Drive! Public showers, clean beaches and law and order make this a paradise where teens can be cut loose to explore 1970s-style freedom. Great visit. Thank You! 😊

The staff was truly amazing, they made us feel right at home. Wasn't the most modern hotel, had that old Miami feel to it "I kind of liked it". Room is a descent size, it was myself and my adult daughter so was a great fit for us, 4 people can fit might be a bit tight though. They provided us with beach towels for free. location is awesome right across the street from the beach. We truly had A wonderful stay. Nothing really.

Also note, the ride share drivers won't pick you up in front of the hotel. You have to walk around the corner. It isn't far, but if it is rainy, it is an inconvenience. Not that big of a deal, but I wish I had known. Overall, this is the place you book for the active nightlife and beautiful beach. The room is really for the bare minimum folks who just need a quick place to lay their head while enjoying the beautiful city and historic area.

The location was amazing. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable. They let us check in early, which was very nice. I like that there is a 20% discount at the restaurant for guests. The view from our first-floor room left a little to be desired, unless your dream vacation includes staring at restaurant storage and miscellaneous “mystery items” next door. We couldn’t really keep the curtains open for natural light because it felt like the neighboring hotel staff had front-row seats into our room. I did love that the hotel offered beach equipment for guests to use, but unfortunately, the items we grabbed had seen better days. The umbrella wouldn’t stay open, and the chairs were practically giving up mid-sit, so our beach trip ended a lot sooner than planned. The hotel overall is definitely older and a bit worn in places, though I will say our room itself had been nicely updated and was comfortable.

This hotel makes your stay feels like a classic. Having all the Tony Montana's Scarface ambiance (the car, the prop), and the location, the street with the hotel's lights at night, makes you feel like you're inside GTA Vice City. The hotel location is walking distance to the beach, and they give you beach towels or lend accessories if you need. Fernando was super helpful and charismatic during our check in and check out. The hotel itself feels like is old but has been refurbished. This is no problem but you can spot some old installations because of this (ex: the scissor door elevator which is old school). It is not the hotel's fault, but when you arrive you need to make your way through crowds of people from the beach, and walk past the outdoor tables with your luggage to get into the hotel, but we knew what we signed up for, no problem at all.

Hello everyone, I stayed at this hotel for four days. The person I met on the first day was very nice, but everything changed when I went to room 311. There was no power outlet near my bed, and on the last day of my stay, I saw three very large insects in my room. If it had been earlier, I definitely wouldn't have stayed another day at this hotel. When I reported this to the reception, they only said they could change my room. Definitely don't stay here because huge insects might appear in your face while you're sleeping.room 311

This is such a nostalgic place to stay and the location is PERFECT! You can’t expect luxury grand size rooms, like many are accustomed to with hotels. After all this hotel is 91 years old. But, it has a great vibe, was clean, has a wonderful restaurant and bar, staff was very nice and helpful, it’s across from beautiful South Beach, and so much to see and do in walking distance! A great place to stay in the center of the historic Art Deco South Beach area of Miami. I think this must be the most photographed hotel along the front at night. It looks beautiful all lit up ! Now, this is an old building and you have to accept that the rooms are going to be a little on the small side, the plumbing might not be the best and the elevator door needs super human strength to open. BUT, that's all part of its charm ! If coming by car we found it easiest to just dip into reception and they'll arrange valet, it costs, but makes life so much easier ! We loved this hotel ! Nothing.

Location This is one of the worst hotels I’ve ever been to. What they try to pass as old time charm is actually cheap renovation. Nothing is acceptable in this hotel starting from the arrival with no parking available to load and unload the car except with the threat of being fined for staying too long in front. Add to this that the entrance of the hotel is a restaurant it makes it all confusing and embarrassing to enter with your luggage. To continue our journey we had issues with the room lock and couldn’t enter our rooms. There is no noise isolation whatsoever, and you will pass the night hearing disrespectful neighbours coming at 5 am shouting. Let’s not forget one of the most uncomfortable beds I’ve ever slept on and the non-existent cleaning service who didn’t clean up our room during our stay. I don’t know if it’s the worst hotel in Miami, but it was definitely the worst of our trip.

Location was prime for sure. The only downfall for me was that the bed was a tad to high but that’s cause I’m short also goes for the shower head that I was not able to adjust due to it being on top of shower. Also they could use a mirror in the bedroom to make it easier when someone is in the bathroom another person can be getting ready in bedroom. The bathroom does not have much room for you to place toiletries on. Not very many plug ins so if you have one with multiple like we did then you will be ok. Really that’s all.

Amazing location with delicious food and atmosphere. Everyone was extremely friendly. The room was very clean and it had a ceiling fan!!! Like other reviews stated, it's a little outdated but to me it gives it charm. Overall it was a lovely place to stay. The bed was a bit too soft for me but I prefer a firm mattress. There was only one outlet in the room and the outlet in the bathroom was by the door. These are minor things, not deal breakers. I'll be returning for sure.

This boutique hotel is at a great location on Ocean Drive, walkable to beach, restaurants, stores and parking garage. The room was clean, staff was friendly and very helpful. No beach views from the room. Two bars in the hotel. The reviews did mention Valet parking however, valet was not available due to the busy weekend but we were able to load and unload in front of the hotel and parking structure was a short walk away for $50 a night.

Then we got hungry. Montana’s is extremely overpriced, and even with the 20% discount, it wasn’t worth it, so we skipped it. When we returned from the beach, everything went downhill. The hotel had lost power, so key cards couldn’t be activated. We were told some guests were moved to a neighboring property, but because we needed double beds and only kings were available, we weren’t given that option. Instead, staff had to physically drill into rooms to let guests in every time. Yes, there was security, but traveling with kids, that didn’t feel safe or comfortable. We were told we’d receive a discount, which turned out to be a joke—$45 off the resort fee. For nearly $400 a night, that’s unacceptable. The aesthetics were also disappointing. The property is outdated with cheap cosmetic fixes. I always clean before settling in and found hair throughout the bathroom and room. The rooms are tiny, and the bathroom door looked previously damaged, poorly patched with vinyl only on one side. Never again. I don’t care about the history—this stay felt like a complete rip-off. Highly disappointed.

The Colony Hotel is in the perfect location for enjoying Ocean Drive. We paid for a corner room with a view of the water and the view was worth it! The window was very large and opened, which let in the cool breeze. The shower also had hot water and it was plentiful. The TV was huge. When the weather was very cloudy, the TV and WiFi did not work. Also the corner room is on the stairwell, so it could be noisy at night.

The Colony is an excellent place to stay while in South Beach. I will stay there again. The room was rather sparse, but the basics are there. Two beds, a safe, air conditioning, bath with a shower are all the amenities that are needed. If it’s all about location, location, location, then the Colony is the place for you.

The location is central to activities in the area. The restaurant and service was good. Staff was friendly. The hotel needs updating. The bathroom tile is horrid. You are paying for location only. The rooms are below basic not worth the rate charged. The hotel experienced a power outage 3 days prior to our arrival. We were not issued room keys and needed security to enter the rooms each time. I felt very unsafe, staff did not ask for identification to open rooms. My daughter’s room had two cockroaches and this is unacceptable. Never again for this property.

The receptionist, Stephan, was unprofessional and unhelpful. She did not provide solutions or clear explanations, and most concerning, she shared private information such as my name and room location in front of other guests, which felt inappropriate and uncomfortable. The valet parking service is also poorly managed. Even after paying for it, during rain you may be asked to take your own car two blocks away. When requesting your vehicle, expect a wait time of around 45 minutes. The explanations provided were not accurate, as the vehicle’s tracking system clearly showed otherwise. Overall, the service did not meet basic hospitality standards. There are better hotel options nearby with more reliable parking and customer service.

Plus side - the staff is fantastic. Towels, chairs, and various other beach accessories available to use. Super central location, direct beach access, lots around. Really right in the thick of Ocean Dr. if you want a quieter stay, I would suggest going a couple blocks west to Collins or Washington; or head south of 5th. If you want to be in on it all and don’t mind a bit of noise into the night, this historic stay is a solid choice.

Israel started the trip off right by helping us out when we were confused about the valet situation due to Ocean Drive being shut down. And the valet was wonderful and very patient with us too. It got only better from there. The decor of the place is just beautiful and very imaginative. I felt like I had walked back into the 1920s. The restaurant is a great place for a date (I was with my daughter but definitely want to bring my fiance with me next time). My only suggestion is to upgrade the old electronic locks. They are terrible. It takes many attempts to get into the room. A similar lock at a Holiday Inn in Fort Lauderdale caused us to be locked out twice waiting a hour for maintenance because they are just not dependable. Other than that, the stay would have been perfect.

William and Fernando were the gentleman that helped me during my stay and they were phenomenal. Special mention to William, we wanted to go to the beach to watch the sunrise when we got back from the clubs at 6am and he gave us folding chairs and towels. He was so cool, so sweet, and such a nice energy to interact with. The hotel room itself was very simple, exactly what we needed (a place to sleep).. it was clean and aesthetic, a little small, but if that doesn’t bother you then i say it was PERFECT! i will be staying here again and again because the pricing, hospitality, and location are unbeatable, especially with Montanas in the lobby. I missed having brunch at Montanas, so I am hoping to come back very, very soon!

The location is great, but the room size is really small and for the price it is quite pricey! We are a family of four and got a two twin bedroom. The space was extremely tight, with no place to even open your suitcase and leave on the floor. No desk or table or even a chair! The bathroom was small with a sink that did not even have a ledge. Where does one keep their toiletries? Not even a medicine cabinet or a shelf to keep your tooth brush and paste! The staff were nice and everything else worked out. I would recommend that management at least put a shelf in the bathroom. I don't think they can do anything about the room size!

That said, parking was a bit of a hassle. We had to park a few blocks away in a garage that cost $20 per day, and walking several blocks with our suitcases wasn’t ideal. The room itself had some mixed aspects. The bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable, which was a big plus. However, the shower temperature was very difficult to regulate—it was either extremely hot or very cold, with no easy balance. We also wanted to watch a movie, but the TV remote only worked to turn the TV on and off; none of the other buttons functioned. Additionally, there were no washcloths provided in the room, which was inconvenient. Overall, the location and comfortable bed were highlights, but a few maintenance and amenity issues took away from the experience.

We also loved looking out over the main street and the ocean and taking in all the activity day and night. Art Basel had a tent set up that blocked part of the ocean view, but we could still see enough that it didn’t spoil things. The windows were pretty dirty, but it was nice that they opened fully, letting in fresh air and the sounds of the street below. The history and character of the hotel really added to the charm. It’s one of those places you instantly recognize from movies, TV shows, and photos of South Beach, and staying there made us feel like we were stepping into that world. We also appreciated how the hotel embraces its connection to Scarface — it adds a fun, nostalgic touch to the experience. At checkout, the front desk staff was genuinely warm and made a point to ask if we had enjoyed our stay. It was a thoughtful touch and a nice way to wrap up our visit. Overall, a memorable stay in a truly iconic Miami Beach spot.

Despite this small inconvenience, the dinner was delicious. Asked for a wake up call never received it.

The first room I was assigned (Room 100) had a strong odor that smelled like a gutter, and the shower curtain was covered with mold. At first, I assumed it was just cleaning chemicals, but the smell persisted throughout the day and made the room uncomfortable to stay in. Later that evening, a different front desk attendant kindly offered me another room (Room 115). This room was cleaner and much better overall, but when we returned from the beach and dinner, the air conditioning had stopped blowing cold air. There was a fan on the ceiling, but it didn’t help much since there was no ventilation in the room, and it became extremely humid overnight. The bathroom had a small window, but it was screwed shut, so there was no way to let in fresh air. When I asked the front desk if they could open it, they declined, saying it couldn’t be done. It’s disappointing, as it would only take removing one screw to make the room more livable. Suggestion for management: Please consider adding proper ventilation to your rooms. Even installing a small exhaust fan or allowing the bathroom window to open would make a big difference for guest comfort.

When I did a Google search for art deco in Miami, photos of the Colony Hotel kept popping up so we decided to stay here in the heart of the art deco district and we're glad we did. The neon sign is iconic and the Scarface themed speakeasy in the basement is super cool. Although it lacks a few amenities of more modern hotels, it was a wonderful experience to stay at the Colony Hotel where Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. stayed back in the day. Kudos to the great staff especially Israel and Fernando for making our stay so memorable.

However the cleanliness was disappointing, wi does were dirty, the bathroom door was dirty and the shower didn’t look clean though that could have been just the grout. Bed was massive and comfortable but there was a lack of power sockets. Our request for a high floor and beach view were granted and the view was to die for.

A little bit of a screw up upon check in-- I bought a beach view room through Expedia; when they gave me the key and I walked in, there was already someone else in the room. After the desk clerk worried over it for a while with both me and the other party standing at the desk, I suggested he just give me another room, since they were a young family who were already unpacked and had used the bed. I asked that they just refund me the difference in price, since I got a room staring out at the wall of a neighboring property. It's been a couple of days and so far, no refund. But that might be complicated by having booked through Expedia. Regardless, despite the screw up, its a nice place with friendly staff.

Cvs next door was a plus, beach Access super easy. Hotel will let you use beach towels and any beach accessories you may need for the day. Rooms were great if you are just planning on sleeping there. Beds are comfy. There is a mini fridge, no microwave though. Large TV and decent AC unit. Restroom is nice but no air vent. We loved our stay there, I will definitely come back.

Fairly quiet, comfortable, great location, clean. My only negative is that it was extremely small. No room for any movement, luggage, clothes, toilets didn’t flush well so plugged easily and we ended up using the lobby toilet most of the trip. No daily room service, had to ask for towels, toilet paper. Not enough wall plugs or garbage. This hotel room doesn’t hold more than 2 people, that’s the only reason i would never stay here again.

The customer service was excellent. A fellow by the name of Chris checked me in, and he was pleasant, professional, and efficient. He also said to see him or anyone at the desk if I needed anything before going out and buying it, because there is a chance they may have it (for example, a phone charging cord & adapter). I didn't need anything additional. The room was clean and the place is right on Ocean Drive. This hotel is historic and has been seen in many movies and TV shows, from "Scarface" to "Miami Vice," so it was fun staying in a place I've seen many times in media. Unless you get a room on the front wall, the only view you have will be of the building next door, which is fine if you are the type who does not spend much time in your hotel room.

The staff were amazing! The room and bathroom was very small, out dated, and needed a deep cleaning. Be prepared to pay to park. We went during spring break and valet parking was the only option. It was $50 a day and you had to give them a 20 minute heads up to bring your car to where you dropped it off (which was about a 5 minute walk from the colony). The gentleman who took our vehicle was polite but spoke VERY limited English, that was difficult. Off seasons, there are parking garages to pay to park. The parking garages are about 5-10 minutes away as well, depending on which one you can get in. Great restaurants, beach, and shops all within walking distance. Food was great but pricey.
