Ameristar Casino Hotel East Chicago

My only complaint was the smoke smell in the “non-smoking” room. Also, I paid extra to be on the lake side, but very little of the lake was visible.

Outside of the towels not making it to the room as requested, the staff in both the hotel and casino we're great! Not a fan of the all of smoking in the casino but we hadn't planned to spend much time there anyway. The outside entrance to the facility is blocked off so there's nowhere under cover of the elements to unload/load your vehicle. It wasn't an issue for us as the weather was good, but worth noting for visitors coming soon.

This use to be a Nice property but now it's ok. They No longer have Valet parking and the casino is basic.

Loved it and we really enjoyed our stay! Everything was clean and staff were accommodating. Restaurants had phenomenal food and we had a view of the lake from our room. Would stay here again!

Stayed 1 night..Room was spacious, clean and comfortable, coffee pot in our room was broken..let the front lobby registration desk know and she made a note of it and gave us 2 free cups of coffee instead of having to pay for it at the coffee bar in their lobby..didn't really enjoy the casino..smoking and small payouts..so didn't stay long

The entire hotel smelled of cigarette smoke especially the room. Reservation was cancelled because there was no way to confirm check in online. Even though message was sent prior. The train from Missouri didn’t arrive until 8:30! Asian restaurant was trash. Served frozen uncooked food!!! Never again!!!

Rooms were clean we were given the wrong room (handicap room) we requested a room with a bath tub on a non smoking floor. The hallway smelled like someone was smoking marijuana next to my room on a non smoking floor! Valet sleeping on duty we waited 30 minutes and had him paged several times.

Disrespectful neighbors. no microwave around other than the lobby. Heating and cooling didn't move to where it would be more comfortable for my wife and I. Staff was shocked that my wife and I were married and referred to us as my wife and I being friends. My wife and I are in an interracial marriage so yes she is my best friend but she's more than that, she's my wife. There was the scent of cigarettes on a floor that wasn't supposed to have smoking to include a strong odor of weed. When we asked for help at the front, the staff seemed like we were bothering them. We checked out a whole day in advance from our checkout date and had the staff member up front tell us we'll be compensated for that but when I checked my bank account, that didn't happen, they instead charged us more money. The area of the hotel is nowhere near anything useful or fun. I'll never be back or any of this hotels affiliated locations.

However, what made this experience deeply upsetting was how we were treated. We had pre-booked 2 non-smoking double bed rooms, yet Victoria told us no double bed rooms were available before 3:00 PM. After repeatedly requesting assistance, we were only offered a smoking room to get ready in — which was completely unacceptable given our confirmed reservation. What troubled us most was the feeling that we were not treated with the same respect and courtesy extended to other guests. This was the first time we experienced what felt like racial discrimination in the United States, and it left us feeling unwelcome and humiliated at a place that should have made us feel at home. We hope the hotel management takes this feedback seriously, reviews how guests are treated at the front desk, and ensures all guests — regardless of their background — are served with equal dignity and professionalism.

Hotel is older and run down. There are still smoking rooms so the whole building smells like stale cigarettes. Our room was on a non smoking floor but smelled like smoke. Our room was not clean - frig still had stuff in it and sticky spots on the counter tops. Casino is small and just ok.

If you are not a smoker- this is NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU! We had 4 nights reserved and only stayed 1. Even the bedding reeked of stale cigarette smoke. My daughter had a difficult time with smoke reaction. They would not refund the rest of our trip. Disappointing.

When I checked in,I was given a room that was not cleaned. I had to go back down and get another room. The second room bedding did not look clean, I had to go get more sheets, blankets and towels. I was told that housekeeping would be up to service the room the next day. Housekeeping came and I asked them to give me 30 mins. I left and returned late to find that housekeeping never returned. My experience was not pleasant at all.

Now, the casino was basically an overheated SMOKE cloud. Completely our fault for not educating ourself on Indiana laws which allows smoking in the casinos but it was awful. The amount of times I almost threw up from the disgusting smell of every cigarette/ blunt known to man. The hotel also thought it was a good idea to allow people to smoke inside the entrance doors - it was hell. The staff tried but ashes were literally everywhere. On the bill breaking machines, ATM’s , the casino machines. The guest used any object in that place as a trash can. Every night I had a headache. The overpriced steak house was an absolute let down. The pasta was over cooked and 4 pieces of shrimp cost $25-30. My husband and I decided to stick with the Sportsbook restaurant because the food was decent. My husband had been excited to try the hotel/casino combination and simply made the mistake of trying Ameristar first. The

The bathroom sink didn’t drain. The shower/ sink water was lukewarm. The hallways reap of smoke.

Additionally, when I checked into my room, I noticed the toilet seat wasn’t clean. Thankfully, I travel with wipes, so I was able to make it work without involving the front desk. Decided to take the stairs and found trash on at least three floors. Won’t stay here again, sadly.

The room had a cup half full of a clear liquid on the table, a room key card for room 1116 (my room number was 1112), also there was a receipt on the tv stand from apparently the prior guest, The hotel charged me a $10 booking fee that I wasn’t expecting and at checkout said they couldn’t print a receipt for me of my stay!

Very clean room, clean towels and great view onto the lake. This casino/hotel does allow smoking so it will always smell like smoke even if you get a non smoking room. The bathrooms were very spacious. I do wish they had updated tv’s there were basic channels on the tv’s. Overall decent hotel.

Danika was also another awesome front desk employee that helped us. I loved the day we didn’t have to pay for vallet parking. Huge casino lots of fun perks. Delicious restaurants every corner of casino. We had a blast and look forward to coming back soon! This made my birthday weekend unforgettable.

I stayed at the Ameristar East Chicago for 21 nights over 11 stays in fall 2025, travelling for business. It doesn't have everything (breakfast) and is in an odd location. But it was half or less than hotels in Hyde Park, had free parking, big rooms, was always clean and quiet, and the front desk staff was awesome. Shout out to Danica, who was not only a joy but who directed me to the rooms with the best wifi.

I’ve stayed here the last two and I noticed the water wasn’t hot I complained and they sent labor guy upstairs he say the boiler is out the hotel offerd me nothing but them to fix water they left to fix the water still remains cool. It’s sad you spend 173$ for a room with no hot water …. I would recommend choosing I better Casino hotel like WIND CREEK 😡

We had to wait over a hour along with others because their system had issues with our reservations from a 3rd party. The 1st room they gave us was not vacuumed and the tables had food stains on them. The 2nd room smelled like the sewer. Room# 3 was nice but dam it took you 3 tries. Very disappointing because this is my guests favorite hotel!

Wasn’t pleased with not being able to check in at noon being told two days before when I called they said it wouldn’t be a problem. Staff wasn’t very happy or helpful. I was very upset. They said that the room would be ready in an hour. Went back in an hour Then they then told me that their room won’t be ready until three or four, which is regular check-in then went into the room got non-smoking. The room smelled like smoke 😠 faucet did not work cold water in bathroom! 😡

Overall, it was a great stay my check-in had a little hiccup but hotels.com was able to figure it out and get me checked in and after that, everything was great.

The property is mostly accommodating a wonderful rate for a good room but it is far from a lot of things and the casino is not as big as you would think given the size of the property. The dining is limited considering it is far from almost everything however there was one place that was open late convenient and the food was delicious but more options would be great

This property is located in a very far remote place.... surrounded by a steel mill factory and recycling plants that smell really bad. The casino hotel is not well kept and all over smells like tobacco all over the place.... the elevator had cigarette buts in the floor. I had requested a non-smoking room and what I got was a bad smelly room stinking marihuana that was totally disgusting and unacceptable. I could not stay there. I came down to the front desk to complain and they told me that they could not guarantee that moving me to another "non-smoking" room would be any better because, they said, guests at the hotel do not respect the mandatory non smoking in designated rooms. A complete disaster. I found myself 45 minutes drive out of Chicago at 7pm but I could not stay there for one minute. The hotel said that they felt bad about my terrible experience and they would be issuing a full refund for my stay that night. So far I have not seen the refund anywhere. Please unless you could tolerate such a smelly tobacco place STAY AWAY AND AVOID THIS CRAPPY PLACE.

The room was spectacular, however getting up to the rooms was horrible no wheelchair service,no auto/doors had to open those big heavy doors manually,no bell service,had to actually come down to front desk for valet service.

My credit card was used as fraud to book this reservation and no one made the effort to kick the thief out before their check out even when notified prior to the check out!

Checked in 10mins Checked out in 12mins. Smell of smoke, carpet dirty, elevators dirty, beer can and trash behind furniture. But the staff was accommodating by offering new room or full refund. I just was was not able to stay in another room after being offered the first room. Wheew, walls where dirty, lamp shaded stained. But the bathroom is large just need upgrades into 2025. My first visit about 15 years ago was awesome but times brought about a change. The staff was nice. I pray the owners rehab and give the staff and visitors a proud place to promote and enjoy.

Our room was supposed to be non smoking and it smelled like someone had been smoking in it five minutes before we got there. That was very disappointing as cigarette smoke is hard for me to deal with because of allergies. Also the air conditioner was set at 65 and the room never got below 72 which just heightened the smoke smell effect. The carpet also had a huge stain in front of the tv. The rest of the room was clean and the staff was very nice and the workout center was good as well. Would have been great without the smoke and the non working air.

Cheap rooms, located next to a park and a scenic steel mill that makes the air smell like rotten eggs. Rooms are big but not well thought out. Typically you would want your "Lake View" rooms to not have the beds pointed the opposite direction of the "lake view". Room was non smoking but smelled like a chain-smoker had been living in it. No amount of air freshener would help. Body wash bottle in the shower was empty which means they do not refill after each guest. No soap to wash your hands with at the sink besides a Shampoo/Conditioner combo. Questionable stains all on the walls and carpets had not been cleaned in a while. Beds felt like the springs were going to lodge themselves into my back all night. Coffee machine in lobby cost $7 for a Mocha with no Mocha. Beach was shut down to swimming due to high bacteria count. Found out it's considered one of the most polluted beaches in the US. Staff were nice and rest of the facilities seemed okay. This place has the potential to be good but it needs some real work first.

While the staff were great, the property itself was unkept. We had mold in the corners of the shower, wall coverings were peeling off, and the best part was that I paid extra for a view of the marina... with what my wife likes to refer to as a view of 18th century England behind it.. its was a massive rail yard with a steel factory..

I've always loved the Ameristar Casino hotel rooms. They offer smoking/they have an iron and board in room/fridge in room {although I understand why the microwaves were removed long ago}/the bathroom especially. Separate toilet room full bathtub and separate shower! It's the cost that's hinder my stays. This happened to be a Family member Funeral Service in Chicago and the family had a 10 room block. I could NEVER get that rate in St. Charles.($145 nightly Thurs - Mon + resort fees only $10.)..THANK YOU AMERISTAR CASINO EAST CHICAGO!!

This is a decent option for events in Chicago if you’re going to an event and want easy access to a casino and late night food. The hotel is nice with good views of Lake Michigan. There was some dirt on the vents, but nothing too bad. We were on a smoke free floor (13), but the hallway smelled like weed smoke. The room didn’t smell, just the hallway.

This is a great place to stay if you see a show at The Venue. It is clean really Top Notch and the service is fantastic. The casino just has a drab kind of vibe to it. It's like everybody was just in there to lose or something, I don't know. I had a very somber feeling in the casino.

The folks at check in was pleasant but no one informed us that you had to request a day before to get your room cleaned. This is very unsatisfactory and should be stopped. We were there 4 days and did not get our room cleaned. Ran out of tissue and had to get more towels from the front desk. Paying $634 for 3 nights is just crazy to not have my room cleaned. The refrigerator is a joke you can only fit small items in there. Overall I would not stay there again. I try and support my home town but this is just ridiculous…

The Ameristar Casino Hotel East Chicago absolutely exceeded my expectations! The room was honestly one of the best I’ve ever stayed in — incredibly spacious, spotless, and so comfortable that it felt like a luxury retreat. I went during an off-season day, so the price was very affordable, which made it even better. What I loved most was how the hotel feels like a true escape — once you’re inside, it completely takes you out of the surrounding area and immerses you in a relaxing, upscale atmosphere. I would 100% stay here again!

What is unique about this property is the daycor on the 1st floor, its really throughout the hotel, absolutely beautiful. What I like is the rooms are very clean, modern and comfortable. The staff is great throughout the entire place.

Checking in was super easy. Once we got to our room we turn the AC on and it sounded like it turned on. We went down to the casino and we came back the room was still warm. Inside the bathroom the vent was filled with like toilet paper or a paper towel. The shower and bathtub had nice hot water which we liked. The room was spacious and a nice view of the water outside. The ice machine was not working but there was a worker working on it when we left. We used the express checkout to check out. Overall our stay would have been excellent but only rated it good because the AC was not great.

The AC in the room was horrible. It did not cool the room. The room off would not get below 71.

And smelled like smoke. He apologied and told us he would move us to another room with a bed and pull out by we were in a room with two doubles. He also said he would take some of the cost off the room For the inconviencr and would call. We tried to call and tell them the couch was not a pullout. They kept hanging up on us and not answering. He never called to correct the fee and then when we went downstairs to talk tk someone he told her he never said that the room was a pullout. Integrity is everything. Please watch that employee bc his moral compass is broke . He never called about the room fee adjustment.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay in the hotel. The king room was very spacious which we really appreciated. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. We enjoyed the casino but did not utilize any of the other amenities to say about the food.

My husband and I were passing through on business... So we didn't get the full experience because it was just for 1 night as we were passing through. But the room was clean and comfortable. Maybe if we're passing through again we can get the full experience. Check in was smooth and welcoming. Check out was fast and easy and the front desk clerks were very helpful during the check in and check out experience...

Room and hotel were beautiful casino not very big but well maintained. The air conditioning in my room was not working and it was 90+degrees they sent someone up right away to fix it but it went out again shortly after that happened 3x total which was frustrating but over all experience was good

Typical casino hotel... Room would have been nice if not for the splatter on the walls, big stains on the carpet, and uncleaned toilet seat. Obvious things that could have been attended to before renting out the room. Very short walk from rooms to the casino, which was small, but clean and not overly smoky. Didn't eat there, so cant rate the food.

The sink dripped all night, but everything else was amazing. It had a great view and was a very short walk to a beach.

I would not recommend. I had to search for an ice machine to get ice. There were 12 floors, front desk said just have to check each floor, finally found ice on the 12th floor. Only one luggage cart available, was told, all the carts are locked in the luggage room until bellhop comes in the for their shift. The actual Casino was dirty, smokey, smelled awful, half the machines worked. I wish I checked other reviews.

Staff were great. However, housekeeping did not clean our room during our 4 nights stay.

The pillows where not great and there was no microwave almost like we are forced to go to there restaurant to east..
