Great location, cool vibe. Water pressure in shower was low, very large shelf on the wall made moving around the room a challenge. Otherwise a spacious room for NYC. Quiet rooms, comfy enough for a few nights, felt safe and secure.

It’s a “cool” hotel in a great area and the sole staff member at the front desk was always nice and helpful, but we did not know that 1) it was a walk up (so coffee in lobby not that convenient for folks with aging knees), there is NOT a bar/restaurant in the hotel as it says on Hotels.com, and our room was so tiny there was no where to put suitcases or clothes or toilet kits.

The Sohotel on the Bowery is excellent for its value, with modern comfort with a prime downtown location. While the lack of an elevator requires a quick stair climb, the immaculate rooms and outstanding hospitality make it well worth the price for able-bodied travelers. Coffee is great!

The room itself was clean, but there were shavings left on the sink that were not mine. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were the worst I’ve ever experienced. I decided to forgo a pillow altogether because the lumps were giving me a headache. The walls are also super thin so the man next to me coughing all night kept me up.

The only downside was that the street noise was quite loud during the night and there are no elevators. Staff where available to help with carrying luggage up the stairs. When you arrive, there are 2 short sets of stairs you need to climb to get to reception. If you have mobility issues, this could be something to consider. I would definitely here again.

Lower review is due to Expedia booking experience, as on their site they are not clear about accessibility. No reception on ground floor, rooms available only on upper floors, and without an elevator it is very difficult to use the facilities. Expedia only advises to contact the hotel for accessibilities questions, but only after reservation is made. Lack of transparency by Expedia about the actual condition of this hotel. Regarding the hotel itself, the only complain (other than no elevators) is that hallways were freshly painted, and the smell of the paint inside the room was quite strong, making it unpleasant especially overnight.

I loved the decor and style of the hotel, however, the lighting in the rooms was very poor. The bedroom was lit by an Edison bulb and small spotlight lights that all cast orangey-yellow hues and did not properly illuminate the room, making reading at night headache-inducing. Even the bathroom was lit by the same yellow-ish lighting.

We stayed in a newly renovated room and it was wonderful! Extremely clean, more spacious that I was expecting, and very comfortable for a family of five. The hotel was fine, but we wouldn’t stay here again based on the lack of coffee being available. No way to make it in the room and they only have it available in the lobby for a few hours in the morning. When we went down at 9:30 in the morning to get some, it was out! Even an electric kettle with some single serve coffee bags would solve this. Seems like an easy fix.

I'm really sorry that I opted to stay hotel. I didn't want to stay in a cookie cutter chain hotel and thought that it would be a refreshing change.Upon entering, I immediately smelled a fragrance that at first whiff smelled pleasant enough. I upgraded to stay in "best room" in hotel. In my room I continued to smell the same fragrance but it increasingly became nauseating to the point that I had a bad headache and it turned my stomach. I went downstairs to speak to staff about the possibility of preventing the smell in the room. I received differing explanations. I was told that it was coming under the door from the hallway. Then it was in the HVAC system to which I told that could shut system down that would render the room being cold. Staff offered a portable heater that turned down. I was taken to other rooms to see if there was a smell present. I finally picked a room that I thought was fine. Despite there being a half dead plant and large book on the table that had completely come away from its spine, I was told that it was still considered an upgraded room. At that point I just gave up. I had little sleep due to the uncomfortable bed and coarse bed linens and YES the smell. I checked out and said nothing because I was tired and wanted to go home. On the way home I could smell the "fragrance" on my jacket. Stay here if you can stomach strong smells and want to engage with staff that seem to understand.Plus no valet service !

This is our second stay at Sohotel and was sadly disappointed. Each night we were woken up by slamming doors, one night someone was banging on our door, people partying and yelling walking down hallways. For the luxury hotel cost you would think the hotel would manage this much better. We mentioned to the front desk the first morning and they were not concerned or apologetic. We love the hotel and vibe there but can surely find something more accommodating for a couple that doesn’t rage every night like college students.

The hotel photos are deceiving and the amenities described need updating. The attached bar and restaurant is closed. They have vending machines and do not even leave you a bottle of water in your room. There are no amenities and you pay a resort fee which seemed unfair. The staff wasn't overly warm except the housekeeping staff which were warm and efficient. The room was small but the esthetics were trendy and stylish. There is no clock, no dressers and the makeshift seating area unseats me. The shower is room 341 was not pitched or designed correctly so no matter what we did, our bathroom floor was flooded so we piled up towels best we could to prevent a ceiling leaking below. They offer coffee downstairs in the am but the creams were empty both days. FYI the hotel has no elevator as it was built before the disabilities act so note you have a few flights of stairs. The bed was comfy and we had a cute window. The location was right near little Italy and China town. I probably wouldn't stay again and think the resort fee and amenities for the price were not comparable to other places. I would have checked out after one night and gone elsewhere if I could have gotten money back! Close to subway. Also our tv screen had this annoying menu that no matter what buttons we tried and how many times we shut on and off never went away so we couldn't watch tv!

When we arrived at The Sohotel, the room looked nothing like the photos online. There was visible mold growing on the sink, dust and debris falling from the ceiling fan onto the beds, and the bathroom was old, dirty, and completely misrepresented. It felt so unhygienic that we actually left the hotel to wash our hair elsewhere because it didn’t feel safe to use the facilities. To make things worse, no one was ever at the front desk, even after multiple calls from Hotels.com on our behalf. Later, I was told the hotel claimed I “should have requested a more modern bathroom” — which is absolutely ridiculous. When you book a room based on advertised photos, you expect it to reflect that, not to have to ask for one that’s mold-free. The “premium bedding,” “Tempur-Pedic mattress,” “designer toiletries,” and “rainfall showerhead” advertised were completely false. There were no toiletries, no toothbrush or toothpaste, and no premium bedding. This hotel is misleading, unhygienic, and unsafe. Mold is toxic to breathe in and unacceptable in any guest room. I would never stay here again and strongly urge others to look elsewhere.

This is literally the worst hotel I've stayed in in at least 15 years. They quite literally have no elevator, and my room was 38 steep, rickety steps from the ground. The rooms had No closets. No drawers. Yes literally - NO PLACE for your clothes. No desk. No drinking glasses. No tea or coffee. No mini-bar. As for the hotel, it has no restaurant, no bar, and no room service. It is an amenity-free hotel. And yet this site will con you into thinking it's a "4-star hotel." They hide the fact that there's no elevator in the most minuscule fine print on a submenu. This is disgusting, these people should be ashamed of themselves, and this ghastly money-grubbing, cheapskate hotel should be shut down as a hazard to anybody with the slightest disability. Also this site should respect its customers better than to list this horrible hotel as four stars. Shame on everything connected to this horrible scam.

The stay was for one night. Got in a bit early and was told that we would have to pay for an upgrade to get into the room early. Paid $50 and was put in a super dark room with barely a window in the top floor. There is no elevator and no help with bags aside from checkin. Not worth the cost.

There is no “on-site” parking, but there is a parking lot just down the street where the hotel discounts guests for parking here. I was at Sohotel for three days and the total was $98 to leave my car there for the weekend. Not terrible considering parking fees or getting towed/Scratched and whatnot.

The oldest hotel in NYC! And the oldest plumbing… which meant a free room upgrade when some fixture above us (we hope not the toilet, but I think probably the toilet) sprung a leak right over my bed from the ceiling. The listing also doesn’t tell you that all rooms are up a flight of stairs, so this is not an accessible hotel. The room was spacious by NYC standards though, and beds were comfortable. Location is amazing with so much to do nearby. Great restaurants, shopping, Tenement Museum, all walking distance. If you don’t mind unloading at the hotel and parking a few blocks away, you can find free street parking around the park. Just pay attention to days for alternate street parking. I don’t think I would book it again given the other options in the neighborhood, but it wasn’t bad.

It's quirky, fun, laid back. Family of 5 fit nicely into a tight 3-bed room, and it worked very well. Great value, but the ambiance was so fun! They kept our bags for us after checkout for the day, were very helpful and prompt with every request. They do offer a deal for parking with a lot that's just a couple blocks away, too. Not a big room - truly tight - but exactly what is needed, and shockingly quiet for the city. Looking forward to next stay!

This is not a 4 star hotel. Not on its best day. I arrived at 5pm and they said my room wasn’t ready but told me I could pay for an upgrade. I said they could give me an upgrade for free. Then they checked and my room was ready. I feel like this is a ploy to get you to buy an upgrade. They said it was a hectic day. It was a Wednesday in July. If that’s a hectic day then I hate to see what a Saturday in December looks like. Anyway, I feel like my room was the last resort room. The furniture is old and worn and there was warping on the floor and bathroom door suggesting a flood happened recently. No extra toiletries like lotion. The air conditioner was so loud I had to turn it down to sleep. I stayed here one night and chose it for the location and because it said 4 stars. It’s three at best. If you need a crash pad in SoHo then this will work.

They charge a $30 resort fee but offer no additional services beyond coffee or tea in the morning. No gym, pool, vouchers...nothing. In fact, simple amenities like a toothbrush have to be purchased from a vending machine. The room was very nice and spacious, but the lack of an elevator made it a chore to get to the 4th floor with bags. Be prepared.

It was fine and served its purpose of being a place to sleep and bathe. Bed was a bit uncomfortable (pillows were awful and lumpy). Our room was super small, bathroom was tiny (but clean), TV only connected to cable occasionally. Our biggest complaint was that the outlets wouldn’t hold plugs and didn’t seem to deliver power effectively (I.e, my earbuds only charged through one part of one outlet). Staff were lovely, and the place was clean.

The hotel was quite ‘funky’ ‘trendy’ in style. Family room was quite spacious and well appointed but was quite dark. Staff were very helpful and found space in their storage locker to store our 3 bikes. I arrived Monday morning and was staying for the week with a check out on Friday and because I arrived early Monday they said it would be an additional $29 to check in early even though my room was ready and was staying with them for the week, which indeed put a bad taste in my mouth and they wouldn’t waive the charge no matter what. I can see if I was staying for the day, but I was staying for the week and instead of welcoming me with a piña colada drink they welcome me with an early check-in surcharge.

This is a cute hotel in a historic building in the perfect location in lower Manhattan. Please be advised, there is no elevator! That said, there are porters to lug your stuff around. This was my 2nd stay at the Sohotel and it was even better this time. We had a premium room and the upgraded bathroom was so nice. Pros: Parking was convenient. The hotel is in a good location. Staff was nice although not very helpful with the exception of the bellhops (top-notch). Cons: Many extra charges- be prepared. Plus a $250 hold on your card. No elevator. Very dark. Lighting is horrible. We had an issue with several of our lights being out. It took 24 hours plus a total of five different people coming into our room so we could show them lights were actually not working. Very noisy. We could hear full conversations on the street like they were in our actual room. No food or drink options (restaurant or bar) in the hotel. The upgraded queen size room was terribly small. I don’t recommend upgrading. All said, it was not the best experience.

Please stop spraying cologne, it was overwhelming. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Size you’d expect for a NYC room. No elevator folks. I enjoyed the beds. Hot, hot, hot. Even with AC blasting and window open in March, we were suffering at night. Shower needs a door or curtain as the glass partition does nothing to keep bath from flooding. Construction on lights so holes throughout ceiling. AWESOME location. Close to shops on Broadway, parking, Mulberry Street.

The room was not super spacious and there wasn't really anywhere to sit other than the bed, which was awkward when trying to eat. The bathroom looked very tired, with cracks in the walls in the shower and the cul-de-sac that the toilet was in was very tiny, but nonetheless it was clean. Even though it was very cold outside, it was very stuffy in the room at night and the sheets felt like hospital sheets. I did appreciate the free coffee in the morning, however, and there are lots of restaurants nearby (including a couple bodegas where you can get an inexpensive but filling breakfast). Overall, it's passable if you're on a budget (and you get what you pay for) but the standard rooms are just that: standard. For one night it was ok, but other similarly-priced hotels do better with newer rooms and even more amenities.

It is definitely quirky. There is no elevator. So the room on the 4th floor involved some exercise. They do accommodate you by carrying your luggage, however that fee is included in the monies that you pay directly to the hotel and outside of the Expedia payment. It is a great location with lots of good restaurants and coffee shops nearby. We were there in February and the first floor lobby was way too cold to enjoy as there was a huge wind everytime someone entered the hotel.

First of all, know that there are not four restaurants on site, so look elsewhere if that is what you are looking for. As far as I can tell, three of them have closed or just have severely limited hours. This wasn’t a strong factor for me in booking the place, but was a disappointment when I realized it wasn’t exactly true. My room was more spacious than the smallest rooms I’ve had in New York City. I travel with a yoga mat to stretch out in the morning and actually had room to comfortably place it with my arms stretched side-by-side. I stayed two nights and there was no housekeeping, it is not clear from the Hotels.com listing if or when that happens, although I did see housekeeping in the hallways. The service fees, which I think amount to about $50 a night (I am waiting for the final transaction fee to appear on my credit card statement) are outrageous and a way to pump up what was already an expensive stay (a service fee for “free” Wi-Fi, an in room safe I never used, coffee I never drink, etc. - aren’t those things table stakes for any decent hotel at this point?). The hotel itself is fine. I was delighted with heated floors in the bathroom. The location is great. I wish I realized what I was walking into a little bit more fully, I just feel like the listing was disingenuous in representing what would be the full experience.

I frequent NYC and have stayed in many hotels, SH's rooms are tiny even by NYC standards, and the bathroom was the smallest I have ever experienced in a hotel room. The bed was comfortable. A refundable $250 resort fee was charged, however, the hotel offers NO amenities, such as water, snacks in the room or a gym (that I'm aware of), so what's the fee for?
