Reviews
The Club Continental is a beautiful property with a rich history, offering stunning views of the St. John's River. Guests generally appreciate the spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and friendly staff. However, some guests have expressed concerns about the cleanliness of the rooms, the quality of the complimentary breakfast, and the need for updates in certain areas of the property.
- Beautiful property with rich history and stunning river views
- Spacious rooms with comfortable beds
- Inconsistent cleanliness in rooms and common areas
- Complimentary breakfast quality varies

Good clean place. Stay again.
- 5/5
Keep in mind that this hotel is 103 years old, and it does show in some areas. However, the water pressure and heat in the showers are very good, the rooms are clean and well maintained, the grounds are exceptional and access is nearly effortless. The dinning is elegant, the food was delicious and professionally prepared, service was cordial, knowledgable and reliable. Oh yeah, the three pools and 7 tennis courts were very enjoyable. Bottom line: I recommend the Club Continental to anyone staying within an hour of it. You will not be disappointed.
- 5/5
Beautiful mansion with comfortable rooms! The hotel was quiet. They do have events throughout the week but are strict with the 10 PM quiet time start. Would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
Staff and food were amazing. Room was beautiful.
- 5/5
I love the water views and the historic feel to the property.
- 5/5
The room was perfect. Beautiful setting overlooking the river. A stones throw away. Complimentary breakfast was fantastic. The staff was very friendly and helpful. My wife fell in love with this place and we will definitely be back. You can't beat the price.
- 3/5
My sons wedding was there, the space where the wedding would be held there was lots of old leaves, it definitely needed some tlc for such occasions there.
- 5/5
The room was clean and a good size. The grounds were very nice.
- 5/5
Everything from the breakfast to the beautiful view was outstanding
- 5/5
We didn't have a kitchen in our room, but we didn't need one. Our room was great. We will definitely be back.
- 5/5
We would definitely stay there again!
- 5/5
What a hidden gem! Great staff! Great food! The history of this place is amazing! So glad they opened it to the public! Beautiful!
- 3/5
Property was just run down and unkept looking. In need of a good clean up and lots of maintenance. The room was recently renovated and in pretty good condition. Breakfast was very average.
- 5/5
This is old Florida. The rooms are comfortable and the staff were all very good.
- 5/5

- 5/5
It is a gem! Staff is amazing!
- 5/5
Breakfast was.fresh.

We love this hotel and we have stayed here every year for many years, but it does need a few upgrades. The kitchen was missing supplies that we needed to cook. We had two TVs with only one remote, minor issues but problematic just the same.
- 5/5
Beautiful resort!
- 5/5
Hidden Gem loved every second of it
- 2/5
Paint on door was peeling. Room was very cold due to heater not working. Bathroom was very small—no room for much on counter beside sink. No refrigerator or coffee maker. Light next to bed not plugged in. Shower knobs were very loose. Channels and programming on tv were inadequate. Our relatives had lovely rooms in another building on the St. Johns River. We were in the main building in the Mexican room. We also ran out of Kleenex tissues. We were at the Club Continental.
- 3/5
Location was very good with great river view.
- 5/5
Nice plantation look, clean rooms, easy check in
- 5/5
Room was big. Everything well kept and clean.
- 4/5
toilet did not work in first room and then no hot water for shower either
- 4/5
All staff very helpful and courteous. Price was great. Room was good (it needs outlets. Had to move the TV away to the right hand side of the dresser to make the cord reach to plug it in and my husband has a CPAP machine that he had to sit on the chair near the bathroom to plug it in in the bathroom so he could wear it Very inconvenient for any type of electricity) beautiful restaurant downstairs with a full bar close to everything. Would highly recommend this hotel.
- 5/5
Beautiful location
- 5/5
This is a very special place. It is a perfect place to set down your worries and rest. The food is amazing!!!!!! I highly recommend eating on site!!!! All of the staff are really sweet and nice, all while being professional. All of the rooms are huge and comfortable, and each one is styled differently.
- 4/5
I know the Club Continental since 15 years. It's a great place to stay and the staff are great. i recommande it
- 1/5
This is an event place not a hotel. No service
- 5/5
Is a beautiful place
- 4/5
We stayed in the Mexican room in the mansion. It did not have amenities like refrigerator, coffee maker or microwave and there was a wedding on the property which was a little noisy. The bed left something to be desired but everything else was very good. Friends were staying in the river suites and they were very nice. More modern and updated. I would stay there next time.
- 5/5
Wonderful stay - here for my sons wedding nearby
- 5/5
First time staying here beautiful property and wonderful staff very relaxing place,I will definitely be going back.
- 5/5
Beautiful and private
- 5/5
Beautiful grounds, quiet and peaceful
- 5/5
What a great little find! Felt like I was in Italy and the beauty for the Spanish moss just added to the fantasy
- 3/5
Restaurant was great. Bar tender was great. Only the room was dissapointing.
- 3/5
Property itself is gorgeous. Do not stay in the Mexican room, it’s in very poor conditions, there were stains on carpet and bed covers, not acceptable.
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
Wonderful time
- 5/5
Steve was very nice totally enjoyed it
- 5/5
Beautiful property and great rooms.
- 5/5
Beautiful, peaceful
- 5/5
Nostalgic!
- 5/5
Love this place
- 4/5
Booked a room in the main building but since they were replacing the carpeting, was upgraded to a suite in another building closer to the river. It was a very nice room. My only criticism is that, even though no smoking is allowed, the bathroom smelled of old smoke and coffee.
- 5/5
Wonderful place to stay!
- 2/5
Would come back here in a heartbeat.
- 5/5
The property is gorgeous and really quiet. Being on the river provides a beautiful view. The sunrise over the river was absolutely fantastic. The complementary breakfast was extraordinary with a full menu being offered. All the staff were wonderfully helpful. It was a fantastic experience and wish I could have stayed longer. I will be back.
- 4/5
Beautiful and historic property. When I booked my room, I didn't know the family history. I now call it, " the house Palmolive built".
- 4/5
My wife was not able to exit the bathroom in the Mexican room because the doorknob just turned and turned. I returned to the room and had to let her out of the bathroom. She was frightened. I did tell a staff member at our departure. I was surprised we received no verbal apology. This was our third visit to the Club Continental.
- 5/5
Beautiful property. Great history.
- 4/5
Our stay was very pleasant. The history and decor makes you feel like you are stepping back in time. Terry at reception and Marlena in the dining room were professional and personable. Kelly at the River House was also helpful. The room was as expected with a pretty view of the property and river. I would highly recommend a stay there.
- 5/5
Always stay here even when colleagues stay elsewhere. Makes me happy.
- 5/5
Nicely furnished with antiques. Spacious and modern bathroom. River view is amazing.
- 2/5
I booked a room with a king and a double bed and the room only had a king and pull-out couch
- 5/5
Beautiful location on the river
- 5/5
We stay here when we are nearby. Always stay in a room with a view. Dinner was amazing. Oysters, salmon and the desserts were great.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, beautiful property and rooms. We had a cocktail at the little tavern next door right on the St. John’s River and met some great people. We’ll definitely come back.
- 3/5
The room had a musty smell. when you walk in the smell hits you. they had a dehumidifier in the room which i found odd but the smell tells me that they have issues with water intrusion. old hotel but clean, staff very friendly
- 5/5
Our room (103) was 10 feet from the incredibly wide St. John's River. What a view out our sliding door! To-order omelettes for breakfast; a portion of a 1920s estate. This unique property is gorgeous. Room was fully renovated and modernized.
- 5/5
I was thoroughly impressed with the pair. The room and the properties itself beautiful!
- 5/5
We’ve stayed here three times, two years ago was the start of a family tradition, celebrating New Year’s Eve with my sister and family who live in the area. The New Year’s Eve dinner never disappoints. every year before I leave, I book next year‘s stay! This is my favorite time of the year and my favorite place to be. We live four hours south and hope to be able to come once or twice during the year also.
- 5/5
Unique experience
- 5/5
Shaaaa....dont tell anyone! This well kept secret is one you just dont want to tell everyone about. The ultimate in class, accomadations, and did I mention...the on site resturaunt is the best food around Orange Park! A true gem.
- 5/5
Really enjoyed our stay at CC. Didn't know what to expect and was mildly surprised at what a great spot this is. Located right on the banks of the St. Johns, it quiet and very lush outside. The meal service is Very good, with the serving staff top notch. The rooms are old school with antique's, etc., but not here to stay in the room. Will be back!
- 5/5
The River Suites had beautiful views and were very clean and comfortable. The complimentary breakfast is only available for an hour, but it's very good. Be aware that this is an ideal hotel for the self-sufficient. There's limited staffing at the front office, no concierge, and no room service. The grounds are gorgeous for walks and very well taken care of. I had a wonderful stay and would absolutely return, but I know some people want 24/7 service and you won't find that here.
- 5/5
Beautiful property, but dated.
- 5/5
Staff very friendly and professional. Perfect place to relax.
- 5/5
Beautiful upscale property that is actually a private club for dining, parties and pool use. My room was huge and 10 feet from the edge of the St.John river, complete with small balcony. Newly renovated with very nice bathroom, comfortable bed, and lovely antique furniture. My 4th stay snd love coming back. Breakfast is very good too. Much better than any chain hotel!
- 5/5
Beautiful area, classy buildings, good price, breakfast not monotonous as in chain hotels .
- 5/5
It was very welcoming and cozy. Bed was extremely comfortable. The views of the St. John's river were worth a million. Will definitely be staying here again.
- 5/5
We were there for a wedding, view from the river suite was amazing. Restaurant and service were very good. Reception services were incredible. Servers were all very attentive.
- 5/5
This place is special. There's nothing to dislike.
- 5/5
It was beautifully decorated for christmas
- 5/5
Very nice old but well maintained
- 5/5
It was amazing, and we made new friends while staying there. So relaxing, our room on the river was beautiful! The architecture on the grounds was perfect. We will never stay anywhere else! We just loved Club Continental!
- 2/5
The room is not what is pictured on line..the jacuzzi i paid for had a hloe where you should turn the jets on the bed is like a rock..and the sliding doors to the balcony dont hardly slide ..i had to get help to open and shut them..i ask what to do with my key to return it as we were leaving before the doors were opened..the guy was rude said he didnt know..heguessed i could leave it in the room..you need a drop box outside..and the breakfast food was cold by 8 am..when we went to eat..i guess this place makes money on its private parties on satudays..the property is nice
- 5/5
I REALLY enjoyed my stay here. This was my boutique hotel experience and it was truly a gem. The views of St. James Rivers, the touches of history, the affordably priced dining room. I would definitely suggest it to anyone looking for someone affordable to stay the night before a cruise.
- 5/5
Always friendly staff and great service
- 5/5
This place is a Gem! Stayed in the River suite with my husband and our dog, the room was so spacious like an apartment! Fridge, Microwave, and all! The view was GORGEOUS! Right on the river with our own balcony to enjoy. We didn’t want to leave. Definitely recommend staying here. It is a quiet area, and the staff is wonderful.
- 5/5
This property is absoluely gorgeous. The check-in ladies are super kind, friendly, and helpful. Our room was very comfortable and super clean and well-appointed. The view of the river and sunrise are lovely. We will stay here every chance we get.

The place is like colonial style which is cute, but is old and the restroom are very uncomfortably small. But it was clean which was important for us. The staff wasn’t friendly except for Andrew who received us kindly when we checked in. But the tv didn’t work until the last day we were there. Would not stay again.
- 5/5
Has become a favorite stop on our trip south every fall. Dogs love it too! And we have a favorite restaurant OP Fish House. Omelet breakfast was a sweet bonus. And I left my ipad and it’s being sent to me!
- 3/5
The place was tiny and cute. Seems like they try to clean regularly. Still had roaches in the kitchen, not sure if that’s just a tropical thing?? The bed was a torture chamber, I’d rather sleep on the floor. But it was in a great location, fairly quiet, walking distance to a beautiful beach. And the AC worked wonderfully.
- 5/5
Amazing place and the suite was beautiful and the river view was amazing!
- 5/5
Charming hotel with old world feel. Was originally an estate. Property and grounds were lovely. We had a River Suite which was huge, comfortable, clean, seemed freshly renovated. Gigantic bathroom. Great view right on the river. Fantastic pool. The husband was able to play tennis with one of the club pros. Breakfast was very good. Staff was friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
Beautiful scenery and sunrise for the riverside suites.
- 5/5
Beautiful place
- 5/5
This is a rare jewel. If you appreciate charm and elegance this delivers. The house built in 1923 has been lovingly maintained while keeping its old Florida feel. I felt like a guest in someone’s home rather than a traveler looking for lodging. The staff is helpful but not intrusive. I was free to explore the beautiful grounds and get to know the history of the house. I’ll definitely be back.
- 5/5
Very relaxing and accommodating.
- 5/5
It was a great stay! Loved the bathtub which was extremely relaxing and sitting on the balcony.
- 5/5
Old Florida at it's best!
- 5/5
Beautiful.
- 4/5
Really nice
- 5/5
Would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
Our stay was wonderful

AC was on when we arrived. We left it as it was and went to dinner "off property as there was dinner was being not being served that night. Check in at 3:00 to 3:30. Nice Room, though older, with a balcony. We went here to relax before having to check in the next morning at 5:30 AM for cardiac surgery. I thought it would be restful before such serious surgery. When we returned the AC was not working, so we looked as we didn't touch the AC before leaving. A sign noted we would lose the AC if we put it below 72, but we didn't do this. The AC was off all night, no numbers to call to fix it, so even though I had to take a shower, surgical type, at night, and then the next morning before leaving, I was in dire need of another shower, as I spent the night trying to sleep in the heat. I did not go to sleep before 3:00 and had to get up to take a shower to be at the hospital at 5:30. The shower is dangerous, no grab bars, but very high sides to step over to get out, no elevators & the stairs are so steep it is scary. Beautiful view but horrible because by the time I was prepped for surgery they decided to reschedule it as I was not in great condition. No good directions to get into the right place, woman greeting us was nice but she informed us that there was no dinner until the next night. I am absolutely shocked, because this place had a good reputation when I lived in Orange Park, the view is beautiful but the stay was horrible and it messed up my cardiac surgery. Refund?

What a beautiful venue. Definitely going back!
- 5/5

This place is so peaceful and amazing! I absolutely love it here! They have a Chef at the property for breakfast you just gotta go from 8 to 9 am or you’ll miss it lol. Highly recommend
- 5/5
Very quiet, friendly, clean and beautiful grounds. A little hidden gem.
- 5/5
A gem in Orange Park.
- 5/5
Great view on the river. Room was comfortable and had a jacuzzi tub.
- 5/5
What a hidden gem! Has the southern charm with beautiful grounds! Loved the pool!
- 4/5
The included breakfast was very good and the lady who served us was very friendly and efficient.
- 2/5
The property is beautiful and the room is as pictured. However, the "Continental Breakfast" consisted of some bread, a few bagels, some mini muffins, and prepackaged things of cereal you'd buy from Sam's. No fruit, no eggs, no meat, no waffles, etc. I've had better breakfasts at Best Western where I can eat with my food allergies. I couldn't eat ANYTHING they had on-site and had to drive to a local eatery for breakfast. Also, when I used the shower, there were several short black hairs on the walls of the shower from a previous guest. My hair is blonde and past my shoulders so it wasn't mine. If I'm in town again, I'll stay somewhere else.
- 5/5
This is a beautiful property. Large well appointed room with river views. The grounds and gardens are beautiful. Breakfast service was outstanding.
- 5/5
ALL really nice, friendly, professional staff.
- 5/5
we enjoyed our stay and wished we could have stayed longer!!!
- 1/5
Offered us no kind of discount for putting us through hell!!
- 5/5
The grounds are amazing. Complimentary breakfast was off the menu and was very good. The view of the gardens and the water are relaxing. The private club, open to guests, was fun.
- 4/5
The club Contenental is primarily concerned with weddings, couples, and above all club members so if you are in any other category you probably wanna go somewhere else. I think they have the assumption that a solo traveler would not be willing to pay for fine dining etc, and so it's almost as if they want you out of the way in the river house. Yet this iscthe whole reason I came. I love historic homes and wanted something nice, but when I was basically discouraged from making dinner reservations there, the surrounding area of Orange park is so run down until it was almost impossible to find any decent food to eat during my stay. I was kind of checking the place out to see if I would like to book multiple rooms for a large extended family trip near Christmas, as my mother can be quite particular in where she will stay. U will definitely look elsewhere. Savanah, GA
- 4/5
There is a continental breakfast served complimentary . You need to ask for tea and on the second day, omelet was offered but not on the first day. There was no dining on either Sunday or Monday night. If you are traveling south, the location is good for getting on I95 south but the location is a good 40 minutes from the airport, 30 from downtown and 60 plus from Amelia Island.
- 5/5
Beautiful scenery right on the St. John’s River ! Comfortable bed and spacious suite. Delicious breakfast served each morning overlooking the river. Quite delightful !
- 4/5
I enjoyed stay very nice and comfortable, only one negative and that was the shower head needed to be decalcified.
- 5/5
Beautiful grounds, large room directly overlooks the water. Unique property. Terry was very friendly and welcoming on arrival. Very quiet, even with the club next door.
- 5/5
It location
- 5/5
This property has an air of bygone elegance that just makes me feel like I'm in a Gatsby film. The staff is so over the top pleasant and helpful, I wish they were family! The included breakfast is excellent; the dinner is superb and competitively priced. The only criticism I have is for the television system; I guess the rich don't watch as much tv as I do!
- 5/5
I have to tell you this is one of the very few properties we have stayed it and say "I could live here". It is an amazing place to stay. We loved the setting and the River Suites were outstanding. Will be back for sure.
- 5/5
Loved my stay at Club Continental from the cosy room with dramatic river view, to the delicious breakfast and excellent dinners. Staff made me feel right at home. I can't wait to return.
- 5/5
Beautiful and quite place to scale from city
- 5/5
Loved the historic nature of the place. The old style and architecture, the setting, the staff, tutto
- 5/5
A unique old hotel with lots of personality! The building is very old, the facilities and grounds are beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. A wedding was being held on the premises while we were there and it just added to the charm! We will definitely try to stay there another time!
