Reviews
The Sterling Hotel is a historic Victorian mansion converted into a boutique hotel, offering spacious rooms and unique charm. Guests generally appreciate the beautiful property, comfortable beds, and friendly staff, but have concerns about limited front desk hours, lack of onsite parking, and maintenance issues in some rooms.

The bathroom was not well maintained

They need to invest in new tech for doorkeys/cards. Room was large and comfortable. Location was great for Old Sac/Golden1 Center activities.

Everyone thing was great

Old building with interesting rooms. Bed was comfy, decor was cute but they could use classier trash bins and bags and the windows were dirty. Our tv didn’t work and the jacuzzi jets didn’t work which would have been nice to know in advance. No one onsite after 4:30. Overall okay for the price.
- 3/5
The electronic lock on our room door was a mess. Also, we were traveling with a baby and the access was very difficult. Otherwise, the place is cute and reasonably priced. Parking is a bit of a pain but there are a number of lots and garages within a couple of blocks.

such a beautiful suite! I loved everything. The staff was great and it was a fun boutique hotel. I recommend people to try it if they are in town for a night or two.
- 3.5/5
Location is good and parking although on the street was easy to find. Outdated and the electrical capacity load to power tv accessories, laptops, phones, etc was limited and would power off if running all together.

one of our key cards deactivated after using it a few times. we got another out of the lock box, which then deactivated after a few times again. we were guests for a wedding and were worried we'd be locked out all night. the first time staying at a hotel without any onsite staff to help after 4 pm. probably won't stay again for that reason.
- 5/5
Malia was amazing she made sure we were taken care of. My daughter was married there and Malia took extra time and made sure everything I needed for my daughter’s day was taken care of. I would absolutely stay here again!!!

Fun and beautiful hotel. I wish I had more time there. Beautiful hotel and attentive staff! Sadly out flight arrived late and our dinner plans in the immediate area was not meant to be. Room was beautiful, bed was amazingly comfortable, this would be a fun place for a wedding party. What I would do next time… get a morning flight!

Not really a hotel. The front desk closes at 4 pm. We are told this in a tiny little addendum at the bottom of the Expedia reservation, there is -no- indicator on the booking page when booking. They take your money and then you don’t have a room, and they say no refunds. How is this not a scam?
- 3/5
Not terrible. We paid for the most expensive room there, but 1 lamp was broken. It had a dual shower head plus a handheld shower head, but only 1 shower head worked. The soaps in the bathroom were all empty. It didn’t seem like there were other guests when we stayed on a Tuesday night so not sure how that got missed. Could have been a better experience if these basic things were covered. When you pay for the most expensive room there, which is a honeymoon suite… you would think you would have all amenities and things to not be broken. Also be aware the view from the room is a back alley with all the dumpsters and around 6:30 am there must of been tree cutting or landscaping very loud noises and then people throwing trash away which was also very noisy. Other than that location is near everything you need in sac and the room was cozy. Whole hotel had a weird smell like too much cleaning product trying to cover up a worse smell. Also homeless people surrounding area at night which isn’t the hotels fault but worth knowing before staying

The room itself was gorgeous and spacious, however there were visible stains on the couch. My main concern though, was the lack of attention at all from the staff. Even during hours in which they were supposed to be there (presumably 9:30-4:30), they were gone from the front desk and not answering messages. To preface, they said to message a specific number for anything we needed in addition to another number we could call. My friend who was staying with me messaged on a Wednesday for towels as we felt we needed more than what they had given, and we never received a response. On Thursday I messaged at 2:50p, over an hour before they were supposed to leave, and never got a response until I sent “hello??” hours later. By then it was after those hours so they were definitely off the property, and we could only get one extra bath towel and a couple extra hand towels they had out in the hallway. It was just an extremely disappointing experience for booking what was supposed to be the best room in the hotel. Other than the lack of staff to help, the place was clean and comfortable. Would stay again as long as I prepared by bringing some of my own towels.

Overall, hotel stay was nice. Feel like the property could use a little refresh. Walls are dinged, carpet is worn and not very clean. Sink in bathroom of room 200 was leaking. Water is such a huge concern in CA that I felt this reflected poorly on the overall maintenance of the property.
- 5/5
However, there were a few issues that took away from the experience. When I went to use the shower, I noticed leftover soap and a partially used mini shampoo bottle inside of the shower, which made it seem like the shower hadn’t been fully cleaned. The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash bottles in the shower were empty, but the hotel does provide little tubes of each with more in the hall if needed. Additionally, one of the shower heads and the detachable spray head were not functioning properly. The WiFi was also spotty which honestly wasn’t too bad because we were out most of the time. Overall, the hotel has great potential with its friendly staff and beautiful rooms, but attention to detail with cleanliness and maintenance would really improve the stay. That being said I would definitely come stay again!
- 5/5
Love it! Quiet and clean
- 2/5
Nice place but key card reader has issues was stuck outside for 15 minutes with no one at front desk. There was a light that would blink on and off all night was very frustrating.

Stayed here many times, and absolutely adore the beautiful historic rooms. They're very elegant and unique. They're also spacious as well.

Great place to stay in Sacramento. Close to tons of venues and activities

Didn’t know they had a pool. Great location.
- 4/5
The bathroom in 302 could use an update. It was extremely difficult to get in the tub and the water nozzle is very low.
- 4.5/5
I liked the boutique hotel and event venue. I also liked the Victorian architecture, historic charm, located near the State Capitol. The old smell of the hotel. The dusty green chair in the corner of the room. Not being able to open the bathroom window to air out the bathrooms musty smell and moisture is uncomfortable. The musty smell triggered my asthma.

We stay at The Sterling once a year. This may be the last time we do so. The main issue was the shower/tub. The main shower head would only dispense cold water. We had to use the small body shower head to clean. The water would not drain from the tub. We had multiple people staying in our room. After 2 showers, we had half a tub full of dirty water so the rest of our guests were unable to shower. The volume on the remote for the tv also did not work. The only time we saw a person at the front desk was when we checked in. I don’t know if they’re trying to save money or what but they need to staff the front desk. Was not a pleasant experience and I really hate to say it!
- 5/5
Everything was great and the room as well
- 5/5
Loved this hotel! Would definitely stay again.

Very cute hotel, perfect for my wedding! We stayed in The Huntington Suit which was gorgeous and spacious. One of the shower heads didn't work, and figuring out how to make the water a good temperature was really difficult. We didn't shower the first night because the water wouldn't get warm. There was a little kitchen nook, and it would have been nice if it had a microwave or some basic plates/cups. The doors you could just push open without a key, but the whole place was our wedding party so we weren't too concerned.

My favorite place to stay. Its unique, and a great location. Highly recommend
- 3/5
Wifi was unstable the entire stay and I was there for a business trip. Cleanliness is average, the rooms are average and the property itself is well located but its old and has no amenities.

The room was set to 60 degrees the entire time, i was fro

The Sterling Hotel was a great little historical place to stay. The room (Dukes Sweet) was very spacious and clean. We only stayed for one night and everything was great for our stay. Very private but I believe that’s the way the Hotel is designed. Minimal staff.
- 3/5
The room was good. Just some really loud music on Saturday night that kept us up until 2:00 am
- 3/5
Water pressure was terrible. Water was either scalding or cold no in betwween. Mattress was old and lumpy.
- 4/5
If you like vintage then this is the place for you. Very clean and location was great!
- 5/5
From the moment we checked in, the front desk was very friendly, the whole establishment was clean and welcoming. The room had everything we could have needed, clean, and quiet. Thank you!

Such a cute hotel with a rich history displayed! It's run more like an AirBNB if you show up after hours - with a lock box holding your room key. The room was quite large and the tub was for two! We did end up reporting mold in the tub grout and a dirty handprint above the toilet. They were very generous and are going to report the issues to housekeeping. I would stay again (hopefully with some improved cleaning practices) as it was quiet and had a comfortable mattress. They had a great tea selection in the lobby along with coffee and water bottles. The downtown location and fair price was a major factor in our choice. What we didn't consider, is that there is no off street parking so you will have to find a parking garage or run downstairs at 8:00 a.m. to pay at the meter like we did. Overall a good experience and the front desk attendant was super nice when we saw her in the morning at checkout.
- 3/5
Beautiful old building Needs to have a water cooler on each floor, for coffee maker. TV was super small and poor sound. Lots of street noise throughout the night. No breakfast (vending machine). Nothing near by, and no secure parking.

We chose this hotel because of its uniqueness and its location in the heart of Sacramento. We found it to be lovely, restful, and great for walking. On the way to Sacramento we read some less-than-great reviews, so were a bit apprehensive when we arrived, but found that we had everything we needed. There was no staff member on-site in the evening, and we had no unmet needs, but we were given a number to text if we needed anything. We were on the second floor, and found that it took the hot water a while to arrive, but we eventually did get good, hot water for showers. Our biggest problem was parking, which can add quite a bit to the price of the room. If you do feel you have found free parking, be sure to check the signs, especially those written in red. We made the mistake of parking in a good space on a day that was prohibited because of street cleaning, and the parking ticket is very expensive.
- 4/5
Large room, comfortable bed, large bathroom, friendly staff, clean, elevator felt safe, nice facility, great location
- 5/5
The room was comfortable and clean. The bathtub was older but very clean room and staff was helpful.
- 5/5
A nice hotel in a nice area, ample parking, and the room was ready earlier than anticipated.
- 4/5
There wasnt any breakfast. The place needed a lot of work. Parking, there were none.
- 2/5
Great location, easy to find Massive buzz noise reverberating around the room every few minutes. Wifi dropping out regularly. Wedding groups using the lobby area as if it’s part of their room, loud wedding parties till late outside the room window.
- 0.5/5
Centrally located to downtown. Room 302 was not clean. The bathroom shower had mold.
- 5/5
Great place to stay!
- 5/5
Clean, quiet, and so cute!
- 5/5
This place was awesome and beautiful definitely coming back.
- 3/5
Microwave in the room would be nice.
- 4/5
Quirky but not awful! Bed was SO comfy! Bathroom was divine. Building very old but cool! Weird thing was NO staff on site period… not even sure we saw anyone the next day. You get a check in code but no front staff nada! Just wish we’d known. The downstairs bar area was open but again unstaffed and had an odd gas smell. Downtown was a quick uber. Overall quiet and comfy! Would book again!
- 2/5
The thermostat can only be set to a range of about 6 degrees so it warms up then cools way down the warms way back up again. The staff leaves at 4:30 so anything after that is tough luck until the next day. Also there is no hotel parking so you have to do paid parking so factor the parking cost about $30 - $40 a day to your cost. I will not stay there again.
- 5/5
Friendly and helpful host at check in. Neautiful historic building. Room nicely appointed and. comfortable bed.
- 5/5
Great staff. Very friendly. Room is beautiful. Very comfortable bed
- 5/5
Exceptional
- 5/5
Check in staff was great! Convenient location to downtown Sacramento for CiM marathon finish.
- 5/5
Great little find in Sacramento
- 3/5
The original room we were assigned had a bad heater and the room wouldn’t heat up. Since there was no one from the hotel on the premises we had to text someone to help us. Took hours to resolve by giving us another room. The new room was fine but i feel that having someone on the property would have resolved this issue much quicker.
- 3/5
Room didn't have a remote and the wifi was horrible
- 5/5
Charming, quiet, and unique rooms. I highly suggest the King Grand Suite. The hot tub style bath tub was amazing. Huge apartment room. Loved it. I'll be coming back soon.
- 2.5/5
Never saw a staff member, street parking seemed unsafe, people approached our car for money and I had a child with me. The side entrance was lit better but our key didn't work for that side

Nice hotel and beautiful room (jr suite) but bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. Convenient location and paid parking 1 min walk away. Easy check in and check out. No on site breakfast.
- 4/5
Nice room friendly staff
- 4/5
Shower did not work on one side, shower floor dirty/mildewed, couch and vanity chairs dirty!
- 4.5/5
Our room was near the elevator and when it was used made a loud noise.
- 4.5/5
Beautiful decor, liked that you need a key card to enter! Very friendly staff. Our room was near the elevator and when it was used made a loud noise.
- 2/5
The hotel is totally hands off. No front desk the entire time I was there. No housekeeping. My arrival wasn’t fully set up (no front key was left), not enough
- 5/5
Room size was great and decorated very nicely. The staff was welcoming and kind
- 5/5
Beautiful work of art. Would love to stay there again. Some minor cosmetics, but a wonderful building.
- 5/5
Staff was very friendly and the hotel’s amenities for the guests were nice and convenient.
- 3/5
NO STAFF ON SITE. which was very disappointing and eerie. there needs to be a staff member present at all times, especially for safety. I did not feel at ease.
- 4/5
My ONLY ISSUE with The Sterling Hotel was internet access and Wifi was absolutely NOT available and very frustrating. Good thing for hotspots.
- 1/5
Room was changed to queen instead of king. Im 6'1 225 pounds so that sucked.
- 5/5
Great looking rooms
- 5/5
Very quiet. Easy check in and out. Good communication.
- 5/5
Beautiful place to stay and conveniently located near all the Midtown food options. Have to find your own parking but otherwise will definitely stay again!
- 5/5
Everything about this place is so charming! Yes- there will be a wedding Saturday night but it hardly impacts your stay! It’s great to see the people dressed up and celebrating!
- 3/5
In great condition for
- 5/5
The fan in the bathroom sounded like it was gonna blow up, the room could’ve been cleaned a little better. No breakfast in the morning was disappointing.
- 4/5
Very quaint and convenient. Loved the spa tub,
- 2/5
Check-in was difficult and the room is dirty
- 3/5
Accommodations were nice and my suite was huge! I was well informed that I would be checking in after the front desk closed. I was sent detailed directions on how to obtain my room key via text but it took me awhile to find my room (this is an old Victorian style building). I did see a baby cockroach on the floor which I had to kill. Also the bathtub faucet leaked. Tissue and toilet paper are thin and rough - on the cheaper end. Don’t see any hotel staff there at all during my 1 night stay.
- 5/5
Always a beautiful place to stay so comfortable so cozy highly recommend
- 5/5
As an older person it seemed to risky to even try to access it.
- 5/5
The room was beautiful and very spacious. It was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The bedding was actually warm and didn’t need to ask for any extra pillows like I usually do in hotels. Very much worth the price and will definitely come back.
- 4/5
The place is cute and memorable, clean, functional, very comfortable, and very handy to downtown Sacramento. A downside was the lack of staff onsite after 4:30 (driving long distances I can rarely make that sort of deadline). And the morning staff did not seem to be involved or willing to interact. I was able to get helpful personnel on the phone after hours, however. But it took me (and them!) about an hour to figure out that the entrance I came to was not the main one, which was around the corner on a different street. The written directions did not specify thiere was more than one plausible-looking entrance, and there was no sign on the "wrong" door directing newbies like me to the right place. Also, the parking garage mentioned in the directions, which is a couple of blocks away, was locked and looked like it was not even open to the general public. But there is a perfectly good parking garage just a block away on the same street the hotel is on, just around the corner from the main entrance.
- 4/5
We didn’t have bathroom amenities, which was mostly fine (we travel with shampoo and conditioner, etc.). It was weird that there wasn’t any hand soap for our bathroom, so we had to get some. The place was gorgeous and comfortable!
- 5/5
What a wonderful experience! Quaint and beautiful!
- 4/5
Great location, close to restaurants and Amtrak. Room was clean, bed was comfy. I find it off thst there is no one physically at a front desk after 4:30pm.
- 4/5
Beautiful room. Beautiful property.two blocks from UC Davis Health Pavillion Theatre.
- 3/5
Charming, nice design and pleasant staff. Key card situation is awful, and there’s no place to hang out on the property without feeling you are disturbing people. Rooms need fans, windows or to clean the returns on HVAC to get stale air out. Shower heads could use an update because it’s a hassle.
- 5/5
Great location if your destination is the State Capital, downtown, Old Sac. I love Victorian buildings and this one is nicely renovated. Big room, nice bathroom (one of the shower doors did not slide well.
- 5/5
Great location beautiful old home
- 3/5
The building itself was unique and older, and fine for the price point. Tub and sink were cracked, and showing their age. But overall was about what I expected, and convenient location.
- 5/5
Stayed on a Tuesday night for a concert at Ace of Spades and couldn’t have picked a better spot. The Sterling Hotel is full of Victorian charm, super clean, and walkable to everything we needed. The staff was kind, the atmosphere was peaceful, and it felt like a special experience, not your average hotel. Definitely recommend if you want something different and memorable!
- 4/5
The room and hotel in general were very clean but there were some issues with different leaks that were not addressed.
- 2/5
no customer service what so ever.
- 4/5
We got one of the suites and the bathroom made the stay so worth it! The bath was amazing and clean. The room itself is really spacious and in a clean condition. Some of the stuff is out dated (tv, lighting, plumbing) but the aesthetics made up for it. We parked in a lot nearby for $16 the whole day. Overall we enjoyed our stay!
- 5/5
Short overnight for business trip. Once you download the app, communication and lockbox for key access was great. Never met any staff, but was not an issue. Historic building, generous and nicely appointed room. Bathtub has seen better days, but no complaints.
- 3/5
I had trouble checking in as I arrived after 4:30. I called help number listed and they could not find anyone after they gave me the wrong code to get the key. I was late for my dinner. Also, The bathroom was not clean it looked like someone had used it and they did not clean it. Finally, the bed needs a new mattress it is worn out on one side and lumpy. One more thing I just remembered no water. The water dispenser was empty when I got back from dinner. They Neighborhood is loud at night you should also work on the windows. I know expensive but you asked.
- 5/5
It was perfect for our overnight stay!
- 5/5
very nice
- 5/5
The property was close enough to walk to the Brazilian Steak house. The room was spacious, clean.
- 5/5
Beautiful Victorian style building, perfect wedding venue, very clean and walking distance to many dining options and capital building.
- 2/5
Staff was not very responsive. Never responded to text messages and that was the only way to get ahold of anybody during the week. The weekend staff (Saturday) person was helpful but she was the only person that was. Wedding planning personal was unhelpful as well.
- 5/5
Great property
- 4/5
The room we stayed in was nice but the walk in shower had two high steps that was NOT senior excess able.
- 3/5
the hotel does not have hotel staff after 4:30, during my stay I arrived after 5 and before 8 and never saw an employee or someone to deal with the issues (TV didn't work). virtual support is one thing but ability to call a physical front desk human would be welcomed and appreciated.
- 5/5
Very nice experience will be back
- 4/5
The room was very large with newer carpeting. Room was very bright in the morning. I wish they had a way to block out the bright morning sun. Maybe darkening blinds. Otherwise, I was happy with the stay.
- 4/5
Charming hotel but courtyard was unavailable and the tv did not work.
- 5/5
Great staff!!!
- 4/5
I had a broken air conditioner and they changed me to a different room with ease. On Check-out day my key was demagnified. I downloaded the keyless app but it would not open my door. I called the emergency number and left a message, but no response. The front desk note reads that someone would be there by 8:30am. Being locked out of my room i could not checkout. I left for breakfast at 10am and the front desk was still unoccupied. I was very disappointed. I had to return at noon to checkout. I really recommend that you have a 24 hour phone number in case of emergencies.
- 5/5
Beautiful place, spacious, clean, well-appointed room. Great staff.
- 5/5
Very comfortable room. Close to convention center.
- 5/5
Convenient to capitol!
- 4/5
We stayed at the Sterling for a business trip for conference at the SAFE convention center. It was a cool 3 min walk to the conference wc was my primary reason for booking. It was also relatively short walking distance to Immortal Coffee and our partner's office for a convening. The front desk was responsive when I reached out and provided everything we needed to both check in/out and send reimbursements to our finance team. Overall good stay but if you want more fancy and concierge would likely recommend elsewhere.
- 5/5
Loved the Huntington Suite!
- 5/5
The rooms are amazing. Staff is very kind and helpful.
- 5/5
Brilliant service
- 5/5
Great place! Beautiful. Friendly staff. Be aware of the weddings and receptions. It may be loud- outside. But inside very quiet!
- 2/5
Check-in at the hotel desk took one (1) hour to get into room. There were Keurig cups in the room, but the one machine was located in the lobby, and there was a sign asking to not use the Keurig and the microwave at the same time. (These are observations from my boss, whom I booked on behalf of.)
- 4/5
Loved it here! Beds were comfy and the tub was amazing!!!
- 5/5
Property was great, location convenient. The contactless check needs a little tweaking. But the text messaging was immediate. Read your check in instructions.
- 2/5
The absence of any staff is ridiculous. The room smelled like an explosion of Febreeze.
- 3/5
The checkin procedures for obtaining the hard key were cumbersome and the cell based e key didn't work for any of us on the first day. The hallways and my room didn't appear clean; they could have used a good vacuuming; most of the light bulbs in my room on the chandelier either didn't light or they flickered. Overall attention to the facility was lacking.
- 1/5
The property was a little out the way. I saw homeless hanging around outside.
- 5/5
I would recommend downloading all the mobile apps prior to arriving at the hotel. It took 20 minutes standing outside the hotel before I was able to enter the lobby. It was frustrating not having the WIFI password in advance. It definitley would have made it quicker to download all the required apps.
- 5/5
I was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful, comfy, and spacious my (standard king) room was. It was on par with a nice B&B. I almost felt spoiled. It was also very quiet (at least between 2am and 10am). But there are a few things to keep in mind before you book: There is no one at the desk on evenings or weekends. Check-in is done on your phone and the electronic key is given to you through an app. I'm not super quick with things like this, which resulted in me spending several minutes standing on the porch at 2am. The other concern is parking. I arrived late and paid through SpotHero to park next to the Greek Orthodox church one block away. The next morning, churchgoers had parked me in, and I had to hire a Lyft to get to my event. There are other parking options available. Just do your research in advance. Some don't have in/out privileges, and one required that I pick up my car before 6am the following morning! One thing the Hotel could do to help would be to provide more parking info, including street parking restrictions. The only other mild annoyance was that the room could have been cleaner (specifically carpet and mini-fridge), and some light bulbs were missing from some lamps. But overall I was happy and would stay here again.
- 5/5
Will be staying here again.
- 5/5
A Nice relaxing getaway, very beautiful, friendly and amazing staff going above and beyond
- 5/5
Very nice hotel. Self checkin with no front desk staff. Enjoyed the snack options when we came back from a late night wedding.
- 4/5
Property manager, extremely kind of helpful. The rooms are beautifully decorated and are romantic and cozy. Our room came with the Jacuzzi tub. Definitely recommend this hotel.
- 2/5
The system to open the door didn't work. Same to access to our room. Using a key locker with many keys to access to multiple rooms is unsecured. The Heater is very loud, and we were unable to stop it, so we didn't sleep much.
- 5/5
This is a cute boutique hotel and very walkable to a lot of things. The neighborhood was nice and the staff were helpful.
- 4/5
Very cute building! Loved the decor. It's in a very convenient location to visit downtown and midtown. It was easy to check in and out via phone. There was no microwave or table in the room and there was plenty of space for both.
- 3/5
No options for food other than vending machine snacks makes it a head-scratcher.
- 5/5
Pleasant stay near Golden One Center
- 4/5
Beautiful historic building. Big rooms with big bathrooms. Overall the hotel could use a little updating which would make it a 5 star. Fantastic location and a safe neighborhood
- 5/5
3 days 2 nights great alternative to huge hotels
- 5/5
Very cool old building close to everything. I felt at home even while on business.
- 2/5
Comfortable bed, friendly staff, convenient location. But, the carpet needed vacuuming, the outside needed sweeping, the sink cold water faucet did not work and the heater made a loud clunking sound whenever it went on throughout the night.

In our first floor room, the 2 upholstered armchairs by the window were both stained, one with a 10” stain right in the center of the seat. One of the lace drapes from our bay windows was missing. And the jacuzzi was giant and generally clean, but was cracked and the jet nozzles looked concerning enough where I didn’t necessarily trust it to be a hygienic experience if we were to use the jacuzzi feature. In the common area, there was a water machine, but it didn’t work. So we ended up just filling our water bottles from the tap. We had a self check-in experience with a digital key on our phone, which was really convenient, though we didn’t see a single person during our stay. So there was no receptionist or anyone from the hotel staff on the property, day or night. It was an extremely quiet stay, as we didn’t see or hear any sign or anyone else being in the hotel with us the whole time we were there. The quietness and the comfort of the bed made for great sleeping conditions, though the light from the always-lit parking lot adjacent to our room made it very difficult to get sleep because it pierced right through the drapes. Iprobably wouldn’t stay here again in the future, as I just expected so much more from a hotel stay experience. It’s a bummer, though, because this place has so much potential.

Everything was great except a few things. The tub was not fully cleaned and the sink dripped the entire time. The balcony was closed off unfortunately for our room m but was still a lovely sight and want a big deal to us. The bed is super comfy and the tub is HUGE with jets to relax. My only other issue was I never saw any staff even for check in and out, you have to text if you need anything which I find to be an inconvenience.

This was my second visit. Great location. Drawback - my key would not work when checking in. I had to download the app late at night. Loud music - wedding the night before marathon and had to wake up at 3:30am. No hot water for a shower the first night. Had to skip. It was okay the second night. Lovely building, though! I would highly recommend.

There was nobody at the hotel. The wifi connection was terrible. I was working and needed it. When I called the number listed there in case of problems, I wasn't called back for about 45 minutes. When I finally managed to speak with an employee, they refused to move me to another room. Terrible service.

We loved the ambience of this gorgeous mansion!

There was a horrible clicking/clunking noise happening continuously in intervals throughout the night. I believe it was coming from the heat unit. This was a major sleep disturbance. Even with sound machines. Also, the sink faucet cold water did not work. Otherwise the room was comfortable.

We love the Sterling Hotel (we got married here 16 years ago). Historic hotel with large rooms. Check in was easy via my phone. Teas, coffees and the like are self service. Hotel is surprisingly technology forward, except for the TV/DirectTV.

One shower door had a broken roller so did not roll. My husband tightened the toilet seat since it was loose and he tighten the bathroom doorknob since it was ready to fall.

Such a beautiful and awesome place. Will be staying there every time we’re in Sacramento !

Room was huge though, high ceilings and pretty. Close to everything downtown/midtown. Lots of cool spots within walking distance.

My husband is in a wheelchair. The hotel staff did everything to assist us in getting in and out of the hotel and were gracious and considerate. The nearest parking was over a block away in a parking garage which was challenging to manage with our luggage. But overall, wonderful experience.

There wasn’t much of a staff. They left at around 7pm and when we left between 8:30am-9am they still hadn’t returned. It looked like they placed sheets over the window. Not what we expected.

Room was nice and had a huge bathtub. Coffee and extras were out all day for guests. Staff was nice and you can walj to several restaurants

The property is beautiful and historic but there were a number of things that contributed to me having a negative experience. For starters, the limited onsite staffed hours meant communication was via SMS which is slow and costly when you're an overseas traveller. Second, was a lack of hot water during my stay. On checking out they said I needed to let it run 5-7 minutes to come through which in a dry state is a waste of precious water. Thirdly, the plug in the bathroom didn't work. Fourthly, one of the curtains was secured at each corner of the window but sagged in the middle illuminating the room at night. Sloppy presentation like that reflects poorly on the business. Finally, the WiFi was difficult to connect to and there was no onsite support. Not a venue I would recommend.

It was a beautiful hotel parking was close by easy walking distance about half a block away. It was clean area felt safe.

The hotel is in an amazing old building, in keeping with the area and historical nature of Sacramento, if slightly eccentric in its interior design. Our room was magnificent with high ceilings, antique-looking furniture, lots of space and comfort. The in-room hot tub was modern and worked -- it was a great and memorable stay! There's no front desk clerk and no breakfast or other services to be seen. Parking is not particularly convenient and costs. So, it worked for me, but is not "full service" if that is what you need.

I was able to find a parking space in front of the hotel luckily. It is metered parking. There was a large very loud group of guests out in the courtyard which is right downstairs from where my room is. I could clearly hear them from the third floor. The room is outdated. And the floor was actually sloping to one side, which you could clearly feel when you got into the bed. There was a broken outlet on the wall. The HDMI was plugged into the wrong port on the TV so I had to fix that to get it to work. Went downstairs for a snack in the morning and the common area was not clean, and there were no real snacks left as other guests had made a mess and taken everything. Overall, it was comfortable. Outside there are quite a few homeless people around. It is very close to downtown.

There was no staff at the property. Overall an eerie vibe.

The "breakfast" was just packaged pastries and old apples. There are no nearby breakfast options.

I love this place. Will be staying there again if I need a hotel in Sacramento again.

I loved the rooms and vibe of the hotel. I loved the history of it. They need to do a better job advertising their beautiful bathrooms! Girls if you like to soak in tubs book here! I only had a few small issues. Check in was a little different and rushed. At first it was fine, staff was still polite, however once the staff left (literally handed me the keys on the way out the door,) there was no staff to man the place. I wanted a stopper for the tub in my room and I couldn't get one. Also the TV was not working. There was literally no one of grounds to even talk to about the small issues. Even when I checked out there was no one. I would stay here again because of the features, affordability, and location but the service was disappointing.

We got to stay in the Hopkins Suite on the third floor. The hotel was absolutely stunning and a short walk to some great restaurants. Very easy to check in and out. Friendly staff. Coffee pods, creamer and sugar were available downstairs for the Keurig in our room. Huge shower/spa in our bathroom and the bed was incredible and so comfortable. Best sleep I've had while traveling.

Loved the hotel! Old Victorian house with tons of charm. Our room was in the back of the house, so it was quiet. Only complaint was the metered street parking. We paid over $5 for two hours this morning, but parking is limited to 5 hours max. Otherwise, you can park down the street in a paid lot. Not sure what their rate was. Otherwise, very charming.

1. Great area 2. Might see a wedding go down 3. Nice quiet rooms for busy city mornings 4. Plenty of mirrors 5. Last but not least GREAT STAFF! <3

The room was nice as was the location, but be aware, this is a popular wedding venue and there can be loud music. This one ended a little after 10:00pm so it was good after that.

We got locked out of the hotel and then our hotel room! We arrived at 6:30 pm after a flight delay and the lobby door was locked. I called the number and was able to eventually access the lock box and our room key. We entered our room, put down our things and went out to dinner. BIG MISTAKE! We returned and our key wouldn't open the front door. Other guests were stuck outside also. Eventually another guest opened the front door for us from the inside. We went up and were horrified to find out that our key also coudn't open our hotel room door. Other guests were complaining about the same thing. It took about 2 hours to get back into our room. We had to wait on the floor of the hallway, exhausted, for an employee to come and unlock our door. It gets better! A women in a room next to us told us that she had walked in to her hotel room only to find A NAKED STRANGER in her room! Apparently someone broke into the lock box and took one of the keys and let themselves in. SO FRIGHTENING to be a woman traveling alone and find someone in your room. AVOID THIS HOTEL!
