Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites San Diego Otay Mesa by IHG

I reserved the room online and it was ready for us when we arrived. We like the convenience of preparing in advance.

The hotel was first off very far from the beaches which was poorly advertised with traffic took us abut an hour to get there and another back then the elevator is super old gets stuck and shakes and the staff assures you it's normal (it's not their fault they have it serviced but we got stuck in it with it beeping a couple times when we were too close to the doors) then our ac smelled like urine. We bought air freshener because they cleaned the filters and rather than pack up clothes for 6 people and move rooms after unpacking and being there for a day we decided to tough it out. Even the mattress on the pull put couch was too small and my daughters rolled out on tonthe metal bars because it did not reacg to the end! The good thing was the staff always accommodated us with towels and pillows after the cleaning crew came in and took them the next day. Sucked that they did not have a hot tub and that the pool was not attached to the hotel it was like a walk away from the hotel and the entire hotel had ONE WASHER AND DRYER ONE!!! that was awful. You literally had to time it. As much as the staff was friendly and helpful (best part of the the experience overall) I was super disappointed in our stay here for the price. Usually love holiday inn express too but this hotel needs some upgrades. And their staff needs some raises cause they're literally holding down the fort there

Wasn’t as clean as some of the past reviews had a sewer smell in the hallways had to wait awhile to check in only 1 person at front desk seemed like she was doing everything alone to take care of all the guests

My family of 5 loved this hotel. The room was very clean and spacious. The 2 kind of down sides were that the couch pullout bed was super uncomfortable and the shower was slow draining. Everyone loved the breakfast! The best free hotel breakfast we've had.

We stayed May 29th for the Pitbull concert nearby. the rooms was great but the bathroom lock was missing the button, so we had to push it in with our nail. The lock worked and we were only there for night so we didn't feel like going down and complain just for a small thing. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and was open pretty late.

The room was clean except for mold in the bathroom. The staff was very friendly but didn't know what a roll-away bed was. The hotel states they have rollaways and cribs for $15, but none were available. Parking was excellent and breakfast was absolutely delicious.

Great place to stay we stay once a year for soccer

My stay at the Holiday Inn was good, my room unfortunately had a sink that didn’t drain well so it would fill up with water. Thankfully I was just sleeping there cause we had so many activities planned. The elevator is a bit sketchy, it stalls a bit when getting to your floor and takes a while to go up and down. The wifi was spotty so i didn’t really use it much. Other than that our room was very nice, clean, fridge and microwave in room was super convenient after eating out or bringing snack and brinks. There was free breakfast from 6:30-9:30 am which was so nice!

I didn't like service, and the room smell bad

Great location if you are planning to use CBX border crossing, staff was friendly, and room was clean. Some might find it as a negative but the hotel is not near anything as it is next to a warehouse district and to get to nearest restaurants/mall you have to take the toll road that is about 10min drive.

Clean and friendly employees

Everything was great from check in to breakfast. The only issue I had was having to get my key fixed cause it wouldn’t work to either let me in my room or the back entry. It would only open either the room door or the entry door never both.

Friendly staff

Had only one roll away for luggage in the entire hotel. No jacuzzi, no heated pool. The breakfast was actually not at all though.

There was hallway traffic all hours of the night with kids screaming and doors slamming. The hotel is right across the border in the middle of an industrial park. Breakfast was good.

Amazing stay

The location is great if you are crossing late from Tijuana to San Diego and you need to rest, the room is super clean, and very comfortable.

First impressions go a long way, which is why when I stepped into the elevator, I wasn’t really sure what the room was going to be like because the elevator floor was filthy and when I stepped out of the elevator, the floor was dirty as well.

Parking was easy, rooms were spacious, and the beds were comfortable. I also appreciate and liked the bathroom and shower a lot. Only bad things were that the room was not ready when we first got there and that the key cards were somewhat faulty. Otherwise and overall, a pretty good stay and I would stay here again.

Hotel looks nice inside and out! Easy check in and friendly staff. Was there for a night and our room looked nice and spacious. For the most part everything in room was nice and clean. Restroom needed some work, saw a couple hairs on floor and possible small red stain on tile almost looked like a little drop, so most likely floors weren't cleaned well. We got in late so just needed sleep and even though i took pictures when we first got in to go show staff i decided not to go ask for another room. We were drained and just called it a night. The second issue was beds! They were really squeaky every time you turned and one of them had a clear visible large stain just barely covered with sheets on the side of bed. Room was really comfy but yeah not so clean restroom and squeaky stained bed made it a little unpleasant. But has potential, would consider staying there again one day.

Absolute worst experience ever. When I tried to check in the guy in the front told us the tap to pay wasn’t working. I explained to him the chip on my card didn’t work and all I had was Apple Pay. After about an hour of trying to find another way to pay, I asked if we can just try the tap to pay method, and we did, and it was working the whole time. Finally we check in; the room smelled HORRIBLE. Worst hotel room I’ve ever been in, it smelled like mildew and trash. It was so bad we couldn’t even stay in there for more than 10 minutes. I asked if we can get a refund, but was told the manager has to approve it and wouldn’t be there until the next day. So he changed our rooms, (finally a room that doesn’t smell bad). But this point it’s been almost 3 hours of us just trying to check in and relax. And just when we think things couldn’t get any worse, in the morning they shut off the water because they’re having a “plumbing issue” so we couldn’t shower or use the restroom for about an hour. Overall a nightmare of an experience and a waste of our time and money. If I can give negative stars I would. NEVER stay at this hotel!! Avoid it at all costs.

This hotel was clean but could use some tender care in some areas! I would have liked to have more lighting outside. We checked in about 7:00 /8:00 at night and not feel STAY at all. Staff was ok, they didn’t do anything wrong, but when we checked in it was like a bother and overwhelming to check us in. Only one person at the desk, he was doing everything.

The property was clean, the staff was friendly. The rooms were a little stuffy but was fixed with the AC. The location of the property is pretty hidden by factories… they have a few plazas by the border but most stores were closed. They had a mc Donald’s that was open. The hotel did have a little store were you could buy snacks and drinks.

The room was dirty and should have not been provided to guests. Hair was everywhere and the bathroom not cleaned. The floor in the entry way and bathroom were not mopped or cleaned. Not okay. I want my money back. We left a note with the front desk to let them know about the conditions of the room. Unacceptable!

The place is very old first room they give us the window was broken, and then I called to change the room. The second room had a bed bug.

This is probably the cleanest hotel I’ve stayed at in recent history. The staff was great, everyone had happy and welcoming attitudes. I stayed here before traveling to Mexico through CBX. This will definitely be my go-to place when I need to spend the night here.

The first room smelled bad. So we moved to another room. Its an ok hotel but watch your feet. I found a flea on my toe. I don't have pets and no fleas in my home, but I found one at this hotel. The breakfast was ok. But it was a little spendy for what wr got.

We had a standard 2 queen size bedroom and it was a good size. Our stay was quiet and pleasant. I like the free continental breakfast and easy free parking unlike some hotels in downtown. Overall it was good besides the slow draining sink in the bathroom.

In the room next to ours there was a fight that went on for hours. this included kicking on the room door and yelling in the hallway. I made a complaint with the front desk at 100 am asking them to take care of the problem. The person working the desk informed me that they had received multiple complaints already and they were trying to get it taken care. to say the least no sleep for the entire night!

The window blinds didn’t close completely, but I was too tired at night to go and complain about it. They should do a better job with maintenance.

Very isolated from socially active areas, and very hard to find

I booked connecting rooms but upon check in they said they were sold out. One room did not have power to half of the room, the bathroom door did not close properly and if you did close it, it would pop really loud when you would try to open it. The other room had a bad card reader and we couldnt get in so they ended up moving half of my family to a another room on a different floor. The hotel is outdated and in need of serious repairs. Would not stay here even if they ugraded the place. It is in a sketchy area and only one small slow elevator.

Our stay was great. Our room is spacious, and clean. The best part was we were given two rooms which the second room was a complimentary because the room that I reserved had a leak. Great experience!!

There is a list of items that resulted in an unsatisfactory experience. The hotel itself is going through repairs and or a remodel attempt. The elevator sounds like an old rocking chair.

The hotel was clean. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The continental breakfast was appealing and there were several items to choose from. The staff upon my check in was nice, friendly and very helpful. I wasn't aware of how far away from things the hotel was when I booked it. I won't travel that far for a hotel again given all the closer options in town, BUT this hotel was great. I recommend it to anyone who finds themselves heading into or leaving out of Mexico. Also to those to who are visiting Donovan Prison. You won't be disappointed.

The motel is fairly close to the Cross Border Express. The guy working the night shift, and the girl at the desk in the morning, were friendly and professional. The bed was excellent, and the room well equipped. The included breakfast has everything.

Other guest had keys to my room. also there were bedbugs there and was promised to be refunded my money and was lied to the next day denying me my refund.

The bathroom ceiling and trim, was falling apart. The bathroom ceiling had spiderwebs over the sink and to top it off they got rid of the waffle machine and the pancake machine didnt work.

Around 12am midnight, we were suddenly woken up by a woman claiming to be the front desk questioning who we were and telling us that we were in the wrong room. They had mistakenly booked us in the WRONG room, and were INCREDIBLY rude to us about it.

We did not like anything about this hotel.The rugs were stained. The elevator was falling apart cosmetically.It all looked very dirty.The Hotel needs major Maintenace. It also felt very unsafe.There was a lot of people coming and going late at night.

I was very disappointed with Holiday Inn never seen one so run down on the inside and dirty. I would not stay here again. Bathroom had work done that paint and caulking was all over the place and door was hard to open.
