Reviews
The hotel is praised for its central location, cleanliness, and friendly staff. Many guests enjoyed the comfortable beds and amazing views from the rooms. However, some guests found the parking to be expensive and the elevators to be slow. A few guests also mentioned issues with the air conditioning and noise from neighboring rooms.

The hotel does not have onsite parking. Their designated self-parking garage is located around the corner and across the street, which is particularly difficult to access because of San Francisco's many one-way streets. If you're unfamiliar with the area, finding the garage can be confusing and stressful. As a result, many guests may end up using valet parking simply because it's the easier option. In our case, that meant paying about $90 per day plus tip and extra $40 when you checkout for resort fee or whatever, on top of the additional parking fees and the more than $300 per night we had already paid through Expedia. What disappointed me most was the lack of clear instructions provided at the time of booking. The hotel should explicitly explain where the parking structure is located and provide directions before guests arrive. Had we known exactly how to access the garage, we could have avoided the expensive valet charges. Overall, the stay was fine, but the parking experience left a negative impression and is something future guests should be aware of.

No bathrobes or slippers were provided, which I would expect when paying $500 for a basic room.

Location is amazing definitely, room super clean and spacious. Customer services is very kind. Valet parking service was really good. Breakfast was beyond our expectations. Everything was perfect !
- 3.5/5
The location is good. The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is limited but sufficient, and the rooms are clean. In our opinion, the rooms would be better with wooden or parquet flooring instead of carpet. We were also disappointed by the bedding. Using two sheets combined together as a cover for the duvet is not something we would expect from a hotel of this standard. We found it uncomfortable and concerning from a hygiene point of view. Because we could not put the sheets back together properly after opening them, we had to remove the duvet completely. We were very surprised that a luxury hotel chain such as Grand Hyatt does not provide proper duvet covers. Photos are attached.

Nice room, small bar. On a crowded evening, they had closed their restaurant a few steps away. The pasta with salmon on top and a nice glass of Chardonnay was $52 before tip. For San Francisco, that’s reasonable.

Room was very small for the price, paid $777 for 2 nights and was charged the hotel fees at the hotel $96 plus an additional $400 hold for staying that is not explained on Expedia before booking. Included breakfast with my booking and then the staff told me it was not added to my stay had to ask at front desk again since I know I did include it and they said it was added to my stay and staff was rude at restaurant. Parking garage charges $40 a day and hotel parking charges $90 a day

Nice location close to union square. Rooms were a little dated but still nice. My room wasnt ready when I checked in at 3p, waiting for 45 mins - I know check in is at 4p but Ive always got my room early at Marriott properties.

Everything about this place is amazing
- 5/5
Best location in town, right by Union Square and next to the flagship Apple Store. Walk to Chinatown, North Beach, Embarcadero, etc. The views from the rooms are just amazing and the personnel very friendly. Our go-to hotel while in SF.
- 5/5
We love this hotel. Its close proximity to Union Square, trolley, Big Bus tour made it so easy for us. The room was spacious, clean, and the bed was very comfortable. This was my third stay there, and I plan to stay there every time we visit San Francisco.
- 5/5
Clean, big room, good service and good amenities.
- 3/5
The location and hotel itself were great. Check in was a breeze and we appreciated the waters we were given. We had alot of fun. Unfortunately the next day when we got our car back from the valet someone had stolen both our sunglasses from the center console. We know SF is notorious for car break ins but thought our stuff would be safe if not out in the open and in valet. Guess not. Overall though the stay was fine but loosing over 1g in a night sucked.
- 5/5
Breakfast was a little expensive
- 3/5
The value of the food and fees charged (like the destination fee) did not match the value received however. The destination fee, in particular, offered little to no value and shouldn’t have been passed onto the customer. Perhaps preventing me from selecting this property in the future. Food and drinks were too pricey for what was received.

Starbucks directly across the street. Check-in process was poor. Room not ready at check in time. I was told I would receive a phone call when it was ready but never did so ended up checking in 2 hrs after check in time. Thought it was strange that there was no soap in room. When inquiring about it I was told I had to request soap?? Not that big of a deal just really weird to me. With all that said it is a nice hotel and I was given a couple of drink vouchers.

I’ve been staying at Hyatt hotels all over US, Canada and Europe and I’ve been always impressed by the cleanliness of the rooms, staff, amenities, etc. This time the view of Union Square brought tears to my holiday’s eyes! Everything was top notch. Thank you Grand Hyatt! ❤️

Amazing view from our room of Union Square all lit up for the holidays. Room was clean and comfortable and all the staff we encountered were very friendly and welcoming.

A printed note on Grand Hyatt cardstock plus two sets of foam earplugs were left on the nightstand. The note read “In the effort to enhance the tranquility of your guest room experience…”. At 2am a very loud and repetitive clanging started happening from either the AC vent or adjacent wall. It went on for a little over and hour. Needless to say, it was a terrible night’s sleep.
- 5/5
Front desk very friendly wrightto the point , which I like
- 3/5
No onsite restaurant
- 2/5
And the noise made sleep almost impossible. Of course the location is just noisy outside a lot of the time, but there is virtually no soundproofing, so we were kept up by outside noise as well as by noisy neighbors inside the hotel, in the hallway, in the adjacent rooms. It was just bad, and I cannot recommend it.
- 3/5
There was no amenities, such as complimentary hot coffee, tea, or hot chocolat in mornings in lobby or room. Charged $141 destination fee that was unreasonable.

Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and dining on site was convenient.

Rooms were cleaned with an array of modern facilities. Furniture was a bit tired and could use an upgrade. Overall it was very clean and the staff was friendly and attentive. Good central location and easy to find uber and plenty of stores nearby. The Starbucks across the street was very convenient too.
- 5/5
Everything was great!
- 5/5
Clean room , friendly staff . Looking forward to be back .
- 3/5
The interior and rooms are a bit dated and rundown. The beds (dbl) were uncomfortable. The breakfast buffet was not worth the price. Potatoes were cold, bagels seemed stale and the fruit was old and soggy. They have a sign at the cooks counter about food allergies but our friends were told they could not accommodate a request (by waitress and cook).
- 5/5
My stay was great, the room was immaculate, the view was beautiful. The only negative I’d say was the ice machine on my floor was broken and I called housekeeping to get some ice. Only to be told “ we don’t deliver ice to rooms you’ll need to get that yourself but I’ll let someone know the ice machine is broken “ I was very disappointed that being a Hyatt Rewards member and at the cost of a room being over $500 a night , I don’t think bringing ice to my room when the machine is broken is to much to ask.
- 5/5
Great location and very clean rooms. Plenty of dining option nearby.
- 5/5
Perfect and very kind people

Had the best experience here! Celebrated my birthday and I felt so safe and well taken care of. Would stay again!

Nice hotel
- 5/5
Easy, efficient check in. Clean room nice view. Conscientious staff. Excellent location.
- 3/5
There are hardly any stores near by for basic essentials as the local area is totally dead with most of the businesses having left the area. The property itself is very tired and needs renovation. I wouldn’t stay again.
- 4/5
Great staff, great breakfast buffet, clean rooms. The only thing that is odd is how many additional fees you have to pay by the time you leave. I knew going into it I’d be paying a rate per day in additional fees, but when I checked out I had to provide my card again for it to be charged once more. So I paid online to book the rooms, gave my card upon check in for the additional property fees, and then upon checkout I had to pay more money. I’m not sure if I’d return simply because of that. Everything else about the hotel is nice though
- 5/5
Great property. Great people. Great all the way around.

Great experience except one thing - we left the room TV on when we checked in and came back to a SWELTERING hot room. The heat coming off the screen was literally overpowering the AC. It was shockingly warm in our room and the thermostat was set to 68 while the room temp was reading 66. After turning tv off it cooled down quickly at least.

Busy and loud, but nice place. Will stay again

The desk staff and door people were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was okay.

I’ve stayed @ your hotel many times through out the years and have always enjoyed the room service and restaurant. It was quite a disappointment that the fine dining restaurant and room service had been discontinued! Next visit to SF will be in a full service luxury hotel!
- 5/5
The staff is awesome here at this hotel they really care about their customers and have gone above and beyond to care for their guest even during a accidental black out at tge hotel. The staff took great control of the situation and informed its guests on time and were very accommodating too. I would to thank the housekeeper staff for a great job because the assigned house keeper was always there and help me with removing trash from my room and she cleaned my room in a swift and timely matter. Thank grand hyatt for the great experience and hope to see you soon again

We got the executive suite for the night. Awesome place to stay and a central location to everything. The hotel staff was nice and professional. It was our 30 year anniversary and they even gave us a $50 credit for their store for drinks and snacks. We will definitely be staying there again.
- 5/5
Very nice
- 5/5
Queen sized beds were doubles. Room was cramped with no extra space for 3rd person to sleep
- 5/5
Everything was pretty spectacular, except for one thing: we'd reserved a room with 2 double beds for 2 adults and 2 kids. They upgraded our room to the 30th floor with a King bed and rollout double; however, the rollout double was barely big enough for one child so we had to sleep 2 adults and 1 child in the King, which also seemed small for a King and was crowded. A second rollout wasn't allowed, unfortunately. Staff was extremely nice and knowledgeable. Room was modernly upgraded and the gym was solid, love the 24 hr access. The bathroom door could actually close a bit more securely so other guests don't need to hear or potentially see everything.

My 3rd time staying here and won't be my last. This hotel has everything I need and some. Great rooms, staff and location.

I made reservation for 4 people. I was expecting to double bed in a room. When I saw the neda I called front desk and said are you kidding me? Even one person could not fit each bed. Forget two people sleeping one bed. The manager said it is our standard size bed which is smaller than queen. I said I am not asking. You for a favor. I am just asking for a place to sleep for everyone. I told you how many we are and it should not be a surprise. Long story short they charged me extra to upgrade to a room with one king size bed and two roll away bed which was Too small and uncomfortable. Please be aware of you are a family and want to stay at this place. Definitely you would be ripped and get not enough space to sleep

This should be your go-to hotel when visiting San Francisco! I highly recommend it.

This hotel needs some serious remodel. It looks like a museum dedicated to the 90s worst design. Everything needs a face lift. The bathroom in particular. It is hard to explain how bad the design of the bathroom was. Not a single hook for towels, the sink was practically unusable due to its horrible design and minimal distance between the faucet and the basin, and you could actually saw somebody in the shower from the hallway even with the bathroom door closed (those hideous barn doors for bathrooms are a crime with am inch and a half gap between the slab and the wall). The service was decent, but nothing spectacular. I am loosing faith in Hyatt.
- 5/5
We loved our stay at this hotel. It was a weekend family trip. The hotel was very accomodating with an early check in. The staff gave us pointers on new things to see and changes since our last trip 4 years ago. I would highly recommend staying here. It's a great hotel in a great part of town.
