Reviews
The hotel is praised for its excellent location near the ski resort and town, as well as its friendly and helpful staff. However, guests frequently complain about the thin walls and noise, parking issues, and additional fees for amenities like parking and breakfast. Some guests also mention cleanliness issues and problems with the rooms, such as small size, uncomfortable beds, and broken appliances.

Everything. Great atmosphere and the front desk staff were amazing.

Great hotel, I like the Sauna and Functional Fitness type of Gym!! Worked out great for a work trip, comfortable beds. The Cafe was finally open this time so that was a bonus. The Sauna was suposed to be 24/7 however someone had turned it off so I was not able to use it when I tried at 6:30 am. Otherwise the Front Desk staff were super Friendly and helpful. I will be back for sure.
- 3/5
The hostess was slightly rude and then gave us the furthest room on the lowest floor where our patio was a 3’x3’ underground cubby covered in spider webs. Our remote control was so sticky it was as if it were covered in duct tape on a hot day and then the duct tape were removed leaving a stickiness you cannot get off. The pool was nice.

Nice little hotel!

Will was very friendly and helpful at check in. I was happy to be back in the Old Ptarmigan and it has retained the 80s lodge feel while updating some of the property. Beds were very soft. No complaints, the building is older so it has its rough edges and is to be expected. It could use more renovation and over time, I suspect it will get some.

Great location! Clean rooms, sauna & pool area were much appreciated and great public areas.
- 2.5/5
The location was premium - true ski in/ski out There was a significant issue with the hot water in my room: the shower had mostly lukewarm water. The staff was unable to fix it. The restaurant had a very limited menu, and the food was very low quality

So convenient to the slopes! Nice outdoor patio bar area with fun staff. Love that they have a pool and hot tub.
- 4/5
Location is fantastic. It’s an original motel that has been spruced up with new paint and updated bathrooms. It has a choppy layout. But staff were great. Location is amazing. Walked right out our door and clipped into the skis. Would do it again for a last minute ski trip like the one we were on.

They never disappoint consistent easy access it’s a ski lodge it is what it’s supposed to be
- 5/5
Easy access to slopes Willie in the restaurant was very helpful and friendly without overstepping. Made the evening a very pleasant experience and very unique on 2 separate occasions
- 3/5
The slopes were close. But before we arrived, I asked for early check-in. And was told it would not be a problem. Then when we arrived, they said no. So, we changed in the parking lot.
- 4/5
Ski in and ski out is a great location. It would be nice to upgrade the room and layout of the elevator. Thanks for the accommodation.
- 3/5
nice, clean, comfortable and definitely in a very convenient location. but checkout was a trick with 30+ clueless group blocking every way out of the hotel.. staff was no were to assist!
- 2/5
Rooms are in very poor shape, cracked mirrors, light globes, doors that don’t seal so you hear everything in the halls, dogs in adjacent rooms barking. Great location to the slopes but not restful.
- 4/5
Location was very good

Hotel hasn’t been updated since built. Rooms are small, bathroom is cramped. Interior hasn’t been maintained well. Elevators not big enough for two people plus luggage.

No breakfast that I could see. Desk was empty when we arrived. Had to wait 10 minutes for staff to arrive. Cannot reach anyone by phone to ask about a charge on my bill. You have to walk up half a flight if stairs before reaching the elevator to our room.

Location, staff were amazing very kind and helpful. The new check in system is god awful. You're just setting up your staff for failure. They have to check you in and take a credit card and then you check in on a separate screen and pay for parking on the second screen??? Im a Hotelier that runs a luxury hotels and honestly i geniunely think the higher ups must be special needs. The “NEW” check in system you use is god awful and as a hotelier that runs hotels that run an average of $1200 a night RevPars at luxury desinations… you morons have no idea what the guest experience is all about and are putting your great staff in a position for failure. Please forward this to the gravity haus CEO because he needs to know his competitors are laughing at him and are embarrassed for him. &$@# your new check in system is horrible and pitty your staff. And as your competitor im confident nothing will be done which is why im confident sending this review will just lead your amazing staff to eventually seek employment else where for employers that actually value the guest experience and take care of their staff.

Old hotel - small rooms and bathrooms Old and cramped for a family of 6 in 2 adjoining rooms
- 4/5
The staff was friendly. The room was clean. Loved the proximity to the ski resort.
- 5/5
Great location walkable to resort and restaurants. Dog friendly. Wonderful restaurant/bar on site.
- 4/5
Overall stay was great, friendly and helpful staff, only complaint was hot tub was barely warm and toilet paper was thinner than tracing paper
- 3/5
Lots of stuff in the rooms is falling apart, peeling off, cracked, etc. The mattress cover would NOT stay on the bed which was gross and frustrating
- 4/5
The staff was really friendly.
- 5/5
Room is great and staff was super accommodating for opening ski weekend!
- 2/5
No internet, no pool, no jacuzzi, rooms look remodeled with the minimum effort
- 5/5
The staff was really friendly and the beds were so comfy if I’m ever in the area, I would stay here again
- 4/5
Very clean. Helpful staff. Property layout was confusing.
- 1/5
I didn’t like the service cause the bathroom was stinky and they didn’t provide any other services. The shampoo and conditioner pump wasn’t working properly.
- 2/5
The room wasn't worth the price paid, staff wasn't helpful the bar was closed for the season (which wasn't stated when booking) rooms were small, blankets thin, make up stains on pillow cases, toilet didn't flush. I try to never complain about little things but for a $200 a night I expected more.
- 3/5
Hotel was clean, room was fine, in room bar was expensive, but expected; many choices. Walking distance to slopes, gondola and shopping.

The main lobby was nicely set up with privacy pods that backed a loungy area around a stone fireplace and opened onto a nice, sunny deck overlooking the pool courtyard. It was very quiet since it was off-season but very cozy, clean, and comfortable. The room, elevators, and hallways were small and the bathrooms could use a renovation. There didn't seem to be any connectivity to the TV in the room. Just basic cable. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The restaurant was a really great gathering space with really good food and the staff was friendly and attentive regardless of how busy it was or the time of day. They were open in the morning and evening but not for lunch though, however there was a lovely market a short walk away that served lunch and had a great selection of curated grocery items, and a small wine shop. It was a short- easy drive into town where there was a TON of great shops and good restaurants! The whole town was so charming and everyone we met was authentically friendly. It was announced in the news while we were staying there the property had been purchased by the resort. I hope that means more money for upgrades without sacrificing the charm and accessibility of this place. Overall it was a really great value and I would highly recommend it for a cozy fall weekend!
- 1/5
We got sick prior to going and tried to reschedule but the place said they would not reschedule and we just would lose out on this stay if we didn’t show up, which we couldn’t because we became sick prior to going.
- 5/5
Easy location to catch the shuttle, enjoy Mountain Village and hike!
- 4/5
The staff ( James, especially) was very accommodating. Had to change rooms after adding another night to our stay. Room rate was the same, with a bigger room.
- 5/5
We loved our stay here, so close to the gondola, beautiful views, nice room, comfortable bed, and James at the front desk was so kind and nice during our stay. We love that they are dog friendly too!
- 5/5
Nice
- 1/5
The room is by the lift which alarms often, the room was ok, small for the rate and lack of room amenities. other than 2 earwigs on the bed it was fine. The tub wouldn’t drain while showering. The worst part was the loud atmosphere, the bar people loud till late and the dogs barking by 6 am and the kids in the lobby yelling by 7 am making it sound like they were directly outside of your door, it didn’t make for a relaxing evening away. We have been to a lot of hotels, condos townhouses in steamboat and this was by far the least relaxing experience we have had.
- 3/5
Property was okay, older property but really the only thing that didn’t make it a better stay was that the walls and doors are very thin and we could hear eve thing above us and neighboring.
- 5/5
The room was great. Loved the drinks and snacks that were available in the room. Really enjoyed the location of the resort.
- 4/5
Close to down town abd easy to get around.

It’s a great location

I stayed at the Gravity Haus (Steamboat) while visiting with some friends after a wedding. The hotel is very nice and modern. It also feels like more of an inviting hotel relative to typical chain hotels. The room pricing is very reasonable for the area. The room was clean and comfortable. The fitness center was awesome. I didn't have enough time to check out the pool. My only complaint is: For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to divert the water from the tub faucet to the shower head - ha ha!
- 5/5
Amazing.
- 1/5
I paid $550 for 2 nights. This place is old and dusty. They have some fresh paint and wall paper in some places to keep it up to date, but it is very old. Floor is creaky. This is a motel at best and not worth the price I paid. There was no parking for one night so front desk instructed me to park at handicap spot. I would pay maybe $125 per night only because it is close to the gondola. Staff was nice enough however. I booked this place to support a race I was running as they were one of the race sponsors, but I would not stay here again.
- 5/5
Everything.
- 4/5
The WALLS ARE THIN! You can even hear someone lightly cough next door. It's not great if you have a loud person next door and up late. Parking is $15 (PLUS TAX!) a day. Restaurant and bar only open Wed-Sun in the off season so also no breakfast but places right next door. Right on the main Gondola up, so very convenient.
- 5/5
Nice hot tub & pool. Clean room with comfy bed & pillows. Well maintained. Easy to find and get around area. Nice food options with in walking distance. Highly recommend.
- 5/5
Clean. Appears to have been recently renovated. Like many ski lodges, it is built on multiple levels, so expect to have to lug your luggage up and down stairs. Restaurant was great.
- 5/5
Gym is very nice.
- 4/5
Great location, very friendly staff, nice property, room shower was clogged up and bed has some stains
- 4/5
Good location
- 1/5
It was dirty, there was like a wristband from a club in the trash like they didn’t take the garbage out and hairs in the bed. But that’s the least of my concerns. The people in the room next to me were blasting music and loudly singing along with the door open. What is this? A dorm? On top of that the gondola thing has a loud alarm directly outside. This is all going on from like 10pm to idek very late on a Thursday. I didn’t sleep I feel horrible today
- 4/5
Sadly the airconditioner in the room was so loud that we had to switch it off as it disturbed our sleep. When we asked maintenance to look at it because the filter clean light came on they did, but nothing changed with the volume output. I’m unsure if this is because of the age of the unit or that it was malfunctioning. Sadly, they said they could do nothing more to help. There was also a light on our balcony which stayed on all night and because the curtains did not reach the floor or the edge of the window (I don’t know why) the light streamed in. Again, I asked maintenance to turn off the light and was told that it was on a timer and could not be changed. I don’t know why, I was in a corner unit and no one was benefiting or requiring my balcony light to be on at 1am!
- 4/5
Great staff for an outdated hotel, and the need of upgrades in rooms. Rooms lack a feeling of comfort!
- 3/5
When I booked this stay I was really excited about the location, it was fantastic. The hotel overall was okay. We booked a double occupancy with a kind bed for my husband and toddler, we showed up and got a room with 2 beds that was EXTREMELY loud- not sure what it was next to or what in the room was so loud, it also didnt have very much room for a pack and play so we went back down to ask about the room we booked with the king bed and was told it was "down for maintenence". They ended up giving us a different room with a queen bed but had a bit more of an area for the pack and play. I was also highly disappointed that you had to pay to park at the hotel. I didnt look before booking but could have spent a little more on the hotel for free parking. The overall room quality was alright, you can tell its an older hotel but the location is great.
- 3/5
This property was very overpriced. Not even a continental breakfast. Had to pay for parking . In all the years I've travelled, I've never had to pay for parking at a hotel . Front desk gave us a list of shuttle services that was dated and were mostly no longer in business. There was free bus service half a block away that we just happened to find out about from another source .
- 5/5
Great
- 3/5
1) 90+F…you should be able to control the temp in the room and unfortunately you can’t. It was so hot and uncomfortable, didn’t sleep…had to take a cold shower and stand in front of the 76degree fan to attempt to cool and catch a nap essentially 2) the parking…there isn’t enough space and no really great options. Very inconvenient but many ppl still parked in unmarked spots and the hotel didn’t tow any of us, so thank you. Most stays are great but it’s my first time staying here in the summer season vs the winter…think I’ll stick to it for winter only.
- 5/5
I also want to commend Paula for helping make the experience truly exceptional. Not only was she incredibly warm, professional, and genuinely invested in making sure my experience met my expectations when I arrived, she also did this answering questions over the phone in the days leading up to my stay. Every interaction with her was a pleasure. Paula is a true asset to the Gravity Haus team, and her outstanding presence is a primary reason I will return.

Great location right next to the gondola. Front desk person was friendly and had great recommendations

Front desk person was a not helpful and seemed put out by our questions. Not very hospitable. Soap I shower doesn’t work. Bar tender was busy talking to friends.

Bed was uncomfortable. Bathroom cabinethad clear signs of water damage. Unusual layout. It was just ok. Staff was friendly, though!

My kids and i enjoyed the pool and the hot tub. Really nice staff!

Very nice place
- 5/5
Was there for a one night stay for work and it was definitely a nice place to stay that had charm and a cozy vibe. Pool area is great!
- 5/5
Great weekend getaway! Convenient slope side location, nice pool area, friendly staff, great onsite bar with a yummy chocolate martini.
- 4/5
Good property
- 4/5
Comfortable bed
- 5/5
They had the A/C blasting when I went in, which is not very eco friendly. You can tell it gets beat up during ski season, but it’s a nice place. The pool and hot tub are great too! There are board games to use in the lobby. And restaurants in and near (walking distance). Even a little grocery store with gelato down the street!
- 3/5
It wasn’t noted that this hotel sits outside a live music venue. So on a Saturday night we couldn’t hear our TV until about 10pm. Great for those who want to party, but we were hoping to relax
- 5/5
Perfect spot for an overnight stay while passing through.
- 5/5
Great location, friendly staff, clean rooms and excellent view off deck of gondola, shopping, dining and park
- 2/5
They make you pay an extra fee to park here after you already pay 160 a night. The tv turns on and off at will. The only positive thing about this place is it has a nice bed. I’ve had better experiences at a motel 6.
- 5/5
The room was large and comfortable. The staff was friendly. The location was perfect for walking and exploring.
- 3/5
Marketed as a “boutique” hotel and charges boutique hotel prices, but it’s really just a (sort of) fixed up old 1980’s motor lodge. Extra charges for parking onsite and resort fees are annoying. Nice location and comfy beds, though. At the end of the day, didn’t go to CO to sit in a hotel room anyway.
- 4/5
It was nice..limited staff and dining options over the summer. Very close to the base of the mountain and gondola which was nice.
- 5/5
The toilet paper roll was in your lap when sitting on the toilet. Bad dedihn.
- 3/5
Property was dated but clean and comfortable. No coffee in room or lobby
- 5/5
I wish the Restaurant was open, 2nd time I stayed here and it was closed.. I also wish parking was free, I'd consider that when looking at pricing & convenience next time.
- 5/5
Great one night stop
- 3/5
I arrived early and was told my room wouldn't be ready until the official check in time. Cool. But was also told someone would call when my room was ready. That never happened. Also, when I asked about the shuttle to kill time, the girl had no idea what she was saying. After I finally got checked in, front desk acted put-off by my questions. But he at least knew the shuttle stop was out the parking lot and to the right! Lastly, there was a surprise fee for my room. So with the money paid for parking and this surprise fee, would have been better staying at a place that had free parking and included breakfast for the same price in town. Room itself was fairly clean aside from a towel that had stains
- 4/5
Friendly staff
- 4/5
Clean & staff was great. Could hear doors slamming all night and could clearly hear through the walls.
- 4/5
We loved our stay here! We loved being able to just walk out of the hotel and go explore. Great location. We'll be back!
- 5/5
Amazing stay. Close to everything
- 3/5
I was thankful for a room and the price was affordable. Ive had better experiences that make this space difficult to return to. Not having a room key and having to rely on staff to open my door was annoying. Overall, thankful to have a safe sleep with limited challeges.
- 4/5
The hotel is very cute, with a dog that is very friendly (a corgi that was hanging out in the lobby). Unfortunately, we didn't get to experience any of the amenities because it was an overnight trip, but, locally, there were several places to choose from, from coffee to drinks. Only complaint is if you like a firmer bed, this place has soft mattresses, but one night won't hurt anyone.
- 5/5
It was a bit expensive but very nice location and service.
- 4/5
They did stop the free or included breakfast, but that’s OK. The relatively new hire at the front desk was absolutely incredible! Love chatting with her she changed our room from the basement to the fourth floor when one was available. I hope in December/Christmas/New Year’s to stay there again if the price works :-) The pool in the hot tub are small, but cute and this property just meets all of my needs. I would love to stay here in the winter.!!
- 4/5
The layout is really weird in how the floors are & how you get to your room (we were on the 2nd fl). Restaurant was good & coffee shop is good! Friendly staff! It was hard to fond the hotel itself. Charges for parking, $50 for a dog (which is ridiculous) so with all the add’l charges it was $75 more than stated.
- 5/5
Place was great, a little tricky to find and parking is assigned once you check in, only stayed one night but it was a good one!
- 4/5
The beds were really comfortable, but the room and bathroom felt very small
- 5/5
Excellent property
- 3/5
Bathroom needs repair. Room needs updating. A/C did not cool. However, staff was very nice.
- 5/5
Good stay, Comfortable Bed, PErfect for our needs
- 4/5
Hotel was somewhat difficult to find as it is tucked in towards thw slopes away from the road. Once we got there, check-in was smooth and staff friendly. Liked the ski valet, but didn't care for it being in the "basement". The Sauna didn't work when we were there and the Hot Tub was also acting up and not working well. Our club arranged a private dinner event, but left it open for all of the hotel guests to attend resulting in running out of food and our club members not getting any or scraps. Rooms were somewhat uncomfortable as we couldn't control the heat/cold. Hotel had plenty of parking.

- 5/5
Most everything you need at the property or walking distance!
- 4/5
As close as you can get to Steamboat gondola
- 5/5
This place is great for a quick ski trip! Location is the best at the base of Steamboat, the hot tub and pool were awesome for a post ski dip, and the bar and patio were comfortable. We were there in April for spring skiing and the rate was low and no crowds. We’ll be back for sure!
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
The staff understood the frustration and moved us to another room that was truly slope-side. Other than that, everything else was very good. Staff granted us a late checkout by 12:30pm and parking until 2pm which worked really well with our plans. Only thing that caught our attention as opportunity was how small the bathroom was.
- 5/5
Cool spot with easy access to the hill. Nice pool/hot tub area, plus hip bar/restaurant for apres (complimentary drink tokens upon checkin were a welcome surprise!) Building has been nicely updated, but its age is apparent and rooms and bathrooms are small. Very dog friendly—dogs were running all over, even in the common areas, which didn’t bother me but might be an issue for some. Overall great stay!
- 5/5
Got to love the location and access to the slopes.
- 5/5
Location was great! staff friendly. Property clean!
- 3/5
Really fantastic location for skiing and very nice staff. Bare bones and in pretty big need of an update.
- 5/5
Great location
- 4/5
Rooms are very small, and basic, but the location is top notch
- 5/5
Everything
- 1/5
Loud, overpriced, cramped
- 3/5
There were some noise issues, some low staffing issues, som broken coffee maker issues, and the room was pretty cramped for the price. Great location, ski in ski out, nice pool and hot tub, and nice people. I was charged a $256 "resort fee" and I'm not sure what that covered.
- 5/5
Loved the outdoor hot tub and heated pool, dry sauna, and convenient location. The room was clean and comfortable. One minor complaint: the toilet is an old, slow-flushing model that could be replaced. Also the bathroom is quite small but whatever. Fitness center looked nice but we didn’t use it. Parking was pricey at $40 a day but it was convenient and available. It is a true “ski-in” hotel and *almost* a true “ski-out” hotel - due to the way they groom the slopes around the gondola, you have to walk a short distance up the hill before putting on your skis. Not a deal breaker for us and we would love to stay here again!
- 5/5
5 minute walk to Gondala and all shops.
- 4/5
Heat was not always adjustable but opening the outside door a crack at night helped. Extra charge for limited exercise facility is excessive. Reading lighting at bedside needs a switch closer to bed to alleviate getting out of bed to turn light on and off.
- 5/5
Old school ski lodge vibe with modern style and amenities. Ideal Ski in ski out location. Fitness center and outdoor hot tub and heated pool dated but excellent.
- 4/5
Loved the convince of walking to the gondola and the base area for dining and not having to move the car for the entire trip. Loved the bartenders dog that was the resident Corgi in the front lobby, so sweet. If my dog was better at traveling I would most definitely bring her. Lots of happy pet owners.
- 5/5
Highly recommended.
- 4/5
We loved the location! Just steps away from the slopes! The staff was super friendly and helpful. My only complaints are the noise level at night (we traveled with small children) and the time it took for our room to be available at check in. All in all we would stay there again.
- 4/5
The bed was very comfortable.
- 5/5
Excellent hotel, great location, kind staff, nice restaurant.
- 4/5
(1) It was advertised as ski-in/ski-out, but that’s was misleading. When you try to ski-out, you only get about 200 feet or so and then you have to take skis off to go down stairs and walk around sidewalk to get back on the slopes for any chair or gondola. (2) We reserved the “slopeside gnarnia” room, but it was not actually slope side… we did see the small children’s teaching area out our window which was adorable but not what one typically thinks of as “slopeside”. (3) The water refill station was only available about half the time, it required manually refilling and was often empty. Overall I’d say still a great stay, just a couple things to be aware of to have accurate expectations.
