Comfort Inn & Suites Ashland – Richmond North

We stay at the Comfort Inn because of their beds. Earlier in the evening, we noticed ants were on our bedside table, and we didn't have any food or drink with us. When we went downstairs for breakfast, there were ants on the countertop. So, we decided to skip breakfast and eat on the road. Not sure if I would stay here again. I hope they fix this issue soon!

Only thing is the 1st floor whirlpool room smelled musty

The room was spacious and comfortable. It's great that there's enough counter space in the bathroom. We liked that some of the furnitures are modular and reconfigurable to our liking. We also enjoyed the convenience of having the nice breakfast without having to leave the hotel.

Location The laundry room was a joke. Trash everywhere. Only one washer and dryer available. The dryer did not work. Because the dryer was out of order, clothes from several guests delayed access. When I did have access, it took four runs to get it to damp clothes only. I had to stay up until 3am!!!

The check in was fine. The room was clean. There was some sort of stain on the comforter at the side, but otherwise appeared clean. There was no stirrer in the coffee condiment package. That’s kinda cheap. The breakfast was about par for most hotels. The toaster was a little odd. For the price it was fine for the night.

The cleanliness of the floors in the room and bathroom was horrible. There was hair on the floor in the bathroom and there was a clump of hair from someone cleaning their brush on the floor. The floors were sticky, both in the room and in the breakfast area.

The cons: the hotel room entrance was not secure. It did not lock- door reader broken, hallways constantly smelled like weed, ants in our hotel room- entire 3 night stay, no bathroom ventilation- fan did not turn on at all with lights, bathroom toilet paper roll holder not put on the wall, no hand towel holder(where one should be) flickering lights all over the hotel. The ok: pool- however screaming kids that were not watched by their parents so we couldn’t even enjoy our time with our own.

Excellent accommodations - room was clean and spacious and had plenty of places to plug in phones and other devices for overnight charging. Bed was really comfortable and the layout and furnishings of the room were great. Will definitely stay here again.

Everything was very clean, which I always appreciate :) It was a great stay overall but while the room was very clean it smelled like someone had smoked or vaped pot at some point in the room. It wasn't overwhelming enough for me to ask to change rooms but it was annoying. Fortunately I had a vial of an essential oil with me to help mask the smell.

Lobby was very clean, staff very friendly and quick. Room was spacious and very clean. The bathroom also was very clean. Nice place to stay if you’re looking for a clean room.

This hidden gem is where we stop on our snowbird tour from Fla to NJ. All you could ask for at a great price. Have stayed a couple times and renovations are coming along well. Although there was a slight paint smell in the hall and some spackle in our bath, it’s nice to know the ownership is paying attention to upgrades and details.

Room was very clean!! Hot shower after a long day was great!! Like that it's very close to Kings Dominion which was our destination. The Seven Brew next door is also a big plus!! Pool was a little chilly but it was hot the day we went so it worked out well!!

Not very much. I was charged $75 dollars for my dogs to stay over night. The charge was not the problem. The problem was getting a call in the middle of my granddaughter's 13th birthday dinner about my dog crying. I kept telling the guy that I was eating dinner and would be back in a little while but that was not good enough for him. He kept saying the same thing over and over again until my husband told me to tell him he was on the way now. Quite time is 9:00 pm to 6:00 am the call I got was way before nine it was 8:05 pm, we still had 55 minutes until quite time started. The rest of our party had to run to Walmart then back to the hotel. When we got back to the hotel it was way past quite time it was after 11pm. There were 10-12 people in the dining area party and drinking beer. They were so loud that we could hear them outside the hotel. The man who would not give me his name was very rude and nasty to me when I asked about quite time starting at 9:00pm and it was after 11 pm. He said they would be leaving soon well that was good but what about quite time starting at 9 pm. He never answered me just kept saying they are leaving soon.

The property look like it needs to be better maintained. The bathtub was chipped. It looks like there should be some painting done.

I was cold, and the desk attendant gave me two extra blankets to have in our room at night. Very sweet helper!

Friendly staff, clean renovated large room! Missed fresh fruit but otherwise breakfast was very good! The only downside that needs fixing is the unfortunate miscalculation some engineer made with the bathroom faucet and sink and countertop sizing. The faucet neck barely reaches the sink bowl making it hard to wash your hands. It seems management had to restrict the amount of water allowed to come out of faucet to avoid flooding the countertop! Sp not easy to wash for lack of water and no room to put your hands under faucet! Otherwise, remodel is very pretty and modern! We both plan to stay again here as the positives way outweighed this one issue!

Staff at front desk told me she changed the date on my stay when she actually just booked a second stay and I needed up being charged for both stays. Couldn’t cancel online and couldn’t get an actual person on the phone.

Overall the young lady at the front desk was very rude to my wife,the room had an odor,the tub was stained,and the room just wasn’t up to par. We wouldn’t recommend this particular Comfort Inn to anyone!!!! They definitely need to do better!!!! 😡😡

When i arrived at 1 am from driving all day , i saw cockroachs running across the floor in the lobby. Bad first impression. Once I went to the room I noticed that it smelled quite bad and could have been cleaner. In the morning i had no hot water to take a shower. Very disappointing.

Easy parking, good check in and a good hotel. Just needs a little bit of attention. TVs in rooms are old and poor quality. Part of the coffee machine was missing and toilet was fixed to the floor. Good experience though and would recommend

Our room was dirty. There were used washcloths hanging from the shower, it looked like there were feces stains in the bathtub, the fan in the bathroom was hanging from the ceiling, the toilet paper holder was broken, the refrigerator had water all at the bottom of it, there was mold on the ceiling in the bathroom and on the wall in the bedroom, and the safety lock was broken. We stated our concerns to the front desk and they didn’t seem to care and said that was our room when we asked if we had accidentally been given someone else’s room as it didn’t look clean. I didn’t feel comfortable sleeping there and asked my husband to put a chair in front of the door to feel safe since the one lock was broken

It was a decent hotel. The bathroom wasn't great. The shower creaked and moved as you moved in the shower. Plus, there was no soap tray in the shower or any shelf for your own toiletries, which is very strange, and gross. The beds were actually comfortable though.

Not enough cups nor regular coffee in the room. Breakfast was varied and good; liked the soft, steamed breakfast potatoes in particular. Excellent to have breakfast served at the same time everyday to avoid confusion. Needs a shelf in the shower for soap bar. No body wash dispenser. Shower leaked big time (recaulk?). Microwave turntable no longer turns. Daily towel refresh and trash pickup were very good. Most of the black outlets in the room do not work. I think the face plates were put on without punching out the holes first... headboard, phone shelf, etc. Always nice to have an indoor pool.

Hotel was clean and bed was very comfortable. The only issue I have is that once I checked out and payment was finalized, there was a charge for $20 with no explanation to my form of payment. No one at the property retuned my calls or emails.

Easy access from I95. Clean and comfortable. Good breakfast. We had a room that had an adjoining door - the neighbors were extremely loud beginning at 10:40 PM - screaming and loud noises, a baby crying most of the night that sounded like it was in the room with us.

If you go to the patio near the pool you can not get back in. There's is no scan thing for your card and there is a padlock on the gate. Thankfully one of us had our phone and called the front desk. Bed was comfortable. Room smelled musty.

The bathroom looked dirty. The tiles need to be deep cleaned and I thought I saw some mold. Areas around toilet and sink were broken, the socket area was coming out from the wall. I just dealt with it because it was one night but I would never book with them again.

Fine for the price… breakfast was pretty horrible except for the waffles. Cold fake eggs, no fruit, no yogurt, no peanut butter. Just less than average. Didn’t have bath gel so we just used the little bar of hand soap!

Only complaint was I wish they didn’t place a $100 hold on the card until after check out.

Comfort Inn, Ashland Virginia was the best hotel I've been in in a long time. The amenities such as touch reading lights, clean carpeting, modern lighting and a shower with a glass door were all perfectly duited for me, a tired traveler on the particular night that I chose to stay there. I'm grateful! In addition, check-in was super easy and access by elevator to my room was also perfect. Highly recommended!

This was a pleasant surprise! The property was only 1 year old. Very clean and close to Walmart, several dining options and included buffet breakfast in the morning. Additionally, the property has a swimming pool and work out room for your convenience. Would definitely recommend this property. Also, only 20 minutes away from Kings Dominion

Tiny black ants all over the refrigerator area and over by the beds and had one for sure in the bed. Pool was open but only till 5pm???? Gym equipment is broken and rigged with the wrong pins on the universal gym and also plate 12 is split in half. Other equipment didn't work either. The room had a very strange smell. Me my wife and kid couldn't figure out what it was but really was bad Breakfast was BAD. Eggs were awful. The sausage was at hard as hockey pucks. The cereal was ok but. Was some generic brand and not a good one. I can go on and on and I did message the hotel them but never heard back. We checked out a day early "had booked 3 nights, left after 2nd night" because of the black mold and just went to a different hotel. Our room was on the first floor across from the pool, I will not give out room number to public but hope anyone staying there don't end up in that room.

We enjoyed our stay at the Comfort Inn. It was conveniently located off Rte. 95 and very pleasant. The hotel was quiet, clean and our room was spacious.

Bathrooms are not completely good condition. For example, an exhausting fan is not working and doors is not locked refrigeratoris not working.

TV only having 4 stations, lights and outlets not working having to track down towels and wash cloths for 4 people in the room and only being given 3 towels. Cold eggs.

Also, the drains in the pool area were covered in rust; super dangerous for walking around. All of this offered with sincere feedback. Otherwise good. Thank you.

The staff was not very friendly or forthcoming with any information about the area. The breakfast area was very clean and well stocked the rooms were clean. However, the elevator was very rundown and so was the front lobby. I did not feel too safe in this hotel.

The room was spacious and comfortable, however the a/c unit was not working properly as it was on 61degrees since the beginning of my stay but felt warm. There had to been something wrong with the drainage system in the bathroom shower as a few minutes after using it there will be a bad odor that smelled of rotten eggs coming from the drainage that will fill the room unless you closed the door. If those things were checked before hand I would give a better review.

My room smelled like a wet basement. The hotel had no other available rooms . I am asthmatic so I coughed all through the night.

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE !! Do not book this hotel! Front desk was rude didn't want to be bothered. The first room we were put in, the door lock was broken. The second room we went in was infested with ants and the bathroom was not cleaned....scum in the tub etc. The 3rd room was finally somewhat acceptable....but by the 3rd time of moving all our stuff, we were too tired to try another room. We sprayed the entire can of lysol on the beds and checked twice for bedbugs to be sure we were in the clear. Front desk was not sympathetic and could care less and extremely rude. Never again!!!

I needed a quick, easy place to stay for one night. I found this particular hotel with 2 other hotels nearby. Comfort was the only one I felt was safe, even though this hotel cost more. I believe, you get what you pay for.

Our stay at this property was very below average. Front desk staff was not friendly at all. I didn't feel the customer service, I felt more like an inconvenience. The room was very dated. Old television. I booked a room for 3 people and was told I could only receive 2 face towels per day. Not a very good experience.

The bathrooms were disgusting. There brown dirt specs on the shower tiles, it looked like mildew. Red scruff marks were all over the back part of the shower tiles. The bottom of the sink was brown. I’m not sure how you all clean your properties, but I can tell nothing was disinfected and I felt uncomfortable sleeping there. Do better.

I was actually surprised that they cleaned as often as they did. I didn’t expect that. My refrigerator was leaking a bit. The sink faucet in the bathroom is a little annoying because it’s under size from what it needs to be causes spillage everywhere.

I booked this hotel to stay for one night to have a rest between trains. The hotel looks modern and I liked the colour scheme and associated decor. The room itself on the face of it looked great, the bed was comfy and sheets and carpet clean. Shower took some time to get warm. However the real negative for me was the drain flies. They were coming out of the sink in the bathroom and there was more than 10 flying around the hotel and bathroom. If I was staying longer I would have requested a room change. This is the only negative feature, but would be enough to prevent me from coming back. The breakfast was vast and good. If it weren’t for the flies this hotel would be 10/10 as been described.

cLEAN AND CONVENIENT

Both rooms had a noticeable smoke smell despite being non-smoking. One of the windows was stuck slightly open, which didn’t help with the odor. The shower didn’t drain properly, so I ended up standing in a few inches of water—and the excess water made the bathroom floor very wet. To top it off, the mini fridge stopped working overnight, and I had to throw out the food I had purchased. It was clean and comfortable It wasn’t the worst stay, but these issues added up and definitely took away from the experience.

Our only real complaint was the bathroom. The shower doors wouldnt stay shut while taking a shower. They would just slide right open which resulted in water on the floor, even with a towel. There are also no kind of shelves in the shower so we had no place to put our shower supplies (there is shampoo & conditioner supplied but I have to use a specific kind so I bring my own), no place to put a loofah or anything. The toilet didn't always flush completely and was very loud. I dealt with 3 staff members very briefly. My check in was very quick & easy but the only information I was given was what time breakfast started. I didn't realize until later that I hadn't asked what time it ended, that the info hadn't been given. The other thing I was never told was that the pool was closed. The whole reason I picked this hotel was the pool. I understand they can't guarantee it working at all times but I wish I was at least told at check in before the girls got all ready to go swimming. As for the staff in general, they were helpful enough but didn't really seem to care or be interested in their jobs.

The property wasn't horrible but it seems that they had some trouble with upkeep/craftsmanship overall. I'm assuming it may be due to a high turn over. Our room wasn't necessarily dirty but there was a mildew smell as you walked in (almost like entering a beach house that was closed up for the winter), there were random things that could use a better wipe down like the shower ceiling and the ice bucket which was dirty. The craftsmanship issues were things like the hinges on the bathroom door were really rusty, the vent fan over the toilet was not properly fitted and looked like it could fall down, the light switch cover didn't cover the hole that it fit over so there were gaps, and the aesthetic would have looked a lot nicer if the tiles, grout and things hung on the wall were done properly. The tile on the bathroom floor was dark and looked dirty but was more due to poor choice of material rather than actually dirty. The staff we interacted with were nice. The area had things to do close by but also a lot of boarded up things too. Again, not horrible but not what we have experienced with this chain in the past.

I don’t have enough space for everything I have to say on this property so I will call corporate and also will write a review on Google.

All around experience was just terrible they had booked out the room I was initially supposed to get so sent me to another room where the AC did not work then sent me to another room where the AC didn't work and the door didn't lock properly and told me they could not help me with anything

Staff couldnt understand me. Pool was closed, paid full price for all amenities and couldn't even use the pool which was the point of staying in this location. They didnt know when it would be fixed and said they could refund us the money and just go elsewhere; everyone knows it takes up to 10 days to get a refund so we werent spending all of our money on just hotels. Hotel tried to charge double upon arrival even though i booked through expedia. Staff was rude. The lady there was nice, but the others werent friendly at all.

The staff was not very inviting but the room was clean, spacious, and had updated light fixtures.

I was told that the manager would contact me but he never did. The key scans for the exterior doors were broke which allowed anyone to just walk into the hotel. We were staying multiple days and our keys only worked for one day. One member of our party (nevet been to the front desk) ask for the key to be programmed for room ###. Woth no questions asked, no ask of name or idea, the front desk person programmed for that room #. Hello lack of safety. The shower was dirty and the over all feeling of the space made me want to keep shoes on and not touch anything. The beds have a weird metal frame that need wd-40. There's no air circulation and it's noisy from traffic and doors slamming making sleep a challenge. Spend the extra money and find another place.

There is a 100.00 deposit/hold which seems a little high compared to other hotels and although clean it shows signs of cheap repairs— for example the toilet paper holder broke off and it looks like it was glued on under the sink…

The only thing I felt was not very good was the breakfast offerings. Seems like was done on a tight budget other than that fact everything was nice. The room was clean and well kept. The hotel itself was clean and easy to get to from interstate.

They do allow pets, $30 per pet per night. They have an indoor pool, but it's not heated. Breakfast was ok, the hot food was lacking aside from the typical waffle maker. Room was spacious, had fridge and microwave.

I've stayed at the property twice. While the recent visit was excellent, a previous one was concerning, especially regarding the hotel clerk, a South Asian woman in her 20’s. First, the positive: it’s a convenient location, right where I-95 & I-295 meet. I go north to DC often, so it's a good resting stop. However, the advantages are also disadvantages. Because the property is located in a hub, people from all walks of life frequent it. One time, I saw a lot of loiterers hanging around and smoking. Nothing wrong with that, per say. But as a solo woman traveler, I was keeping a low profile. Well, the clerk either neglectfully or ignorantly tried hard to blow my cover, threatening my safety. First, she blurted out my room number in front of other guests. Later, I went to my car to when I encountered a very friendly truck driver. He was not threatening at all, but again, I was keeping a low profile. As such, as he checked in, I waited in the lobby as he finished. My plan was to go to my room only after he was out of sight. Well, the clerk had the nerve to not only ask me what I was doing in the lobby, failing to take my safety cue, but she asked if I was "with" the truck driver. Was she out of her mind? I was trying to keep a low profile, but she kept drawing attention to me, putting me at risk. I didn’t appreciate it and hope she learns to use more discretion.

Very nice stay. Lots of dining options. Clean, comfortable room. Hit breakfast included eggs, sausage and potatoes.

Walking to my room, the smells were atrocious. I felt sick to my stomach and nauseous. The carpet felt damp. It felt hazardous to my health, so I decided to check out 20 minutes after arriving. Comfort Inn & Suites refused to allow any refund - even for the second night for which I did not stay. It took the front desk staff another 10 minutes to appear at the front desk to help with my request to check out and for the refund. They refused to reply to Hotels.com for the refund inquiry. I paid $175 to get sick to my stomach and waste my time.

Stay was great!

Loved the quick access along the highway with many restaurants and gas stations across the street. Rooms were modern and comfortable.

Even with the negatives, the bed was comfortable and we only really needed a place to sleep and shower during our visit.

The room was clean, but the shower door would not stay closed. It would slide open unless you has something keeping it closed. I asked the front to send someone to fix it but that never happened. Also, analog TV is for the birds...

When arrived, they said they couldn’t find reservation, did finally find it. Room was nice a big. Traveling with a 19 year old male, 17 year old male and myself we needed three beds. Went to open sleep sofa, old sheets were still on it. Went to desk to get clean sheets and tell front desk the sofa bed had not been cleaned, the response, “That’s okay”. No, it was not okay. Only sheets no blanket. Asked for blanket the second night to be told there are not extra blankets so had to take one off the beds to give to the third person. Somehow our keys didn’t work the second night, went to desk to get reprogrammed, was met with rolling of eyes and huffy. We did get new towels, but nothing cleaned up. Wallet had been gone through, but there was no money so nothing they could get. Will not be staying here again.

My room was clean, comfortable and spacious. The bed was comfortable and I slept well. Everything I needed was nearby plus Walmart delivered items I needed that I had forgotten to pack.The staff was friendly as well. I'd stay here again if I'm ever in the area.

The room was clean but had a light odor that we used lysol for. My only complaint was there isn't any shelving in the shower. They offer shampoo and conditioner mounted on the wall but no shower gel and no where to put the soap. Nice spacious room. Comfortable bed. Good breakfast with waffles eggs potatoes and sausage.

Make sure that you are getting the bed/room that you reserved. We reserved a king bed but ended up getting a queen bed in a king room. The front desk clerk didn't think that it was a problem that we didn't get the bed we had reserved.

Great service and location big rooms

Rooms were roomy. Beds were big and comfy. We watched Notre Dame beat Texas A & M on TV in the room. Of the six hotels we stayed at in an 8 day road trip, this one had the best free breakfast.

We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the room. Problem 1, the elevator didn't work, would have been nice to know going in but staying on the second floor wasn't bad. Next, the entry way door we used didn't lock so anyone could come into the hotel if they pleased. The breakfast wasn't good. The eggs were cold, the sausages were rubbery. Other than that we had no other problems with our stay.

From the beginning. There was no one at the front desk . Then I was told I had to leave a $100 deposit for my room . That wasn’t a problem but when I got in the room it had a smell of smoke and mildew…. And then the bed was broken and and the pillow was not comfortable…. I guess you get what you pay for …. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Elevator was broken but my party had no problems using stairs. Room was clean but not spotless. TV remote battery cover was covered with blue painters tape. Remote worked with a little extra TLC. Hotel was useful for our needs for the trip.

When we arrived we were advised that our room was on the second floor but the elevator was out of order and we would have to walk up. When we got to the room only one of our key cards worked. One half of the security lock was missing. There was no way to control the air conditioning in the room it was either off or on full all night.

The breakfast area was a decent since with a decent selection of options, including hot options with make your own waffles, eggs, bacon/sausage.

Hotel reeked of cigarettes, even though it was a non-smoking room, staff was rude, breakfast foods were cold, otherwise, it was comfortable & clean.

Management could use a handful of classes on customer service. They have a very dry demeanor and no manners. Especially the female. She spoke to the workers very harshly. Condition of the room was nice.

First thing the young lady at the front desk was rude and then next thing my bathroom in my room was leaking water then I go down for breakfast supposed to be at 6:30 and the food never get out full after seven went to the laundry room and there was water leaking everywhere in the laundry room, and on my last day, the elevator wouldn’t work the more I told people nothing happened Oh, when I told him about my again about my room, I was told the maintenance worker didn’t come in to work, but it’s in a good location, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone

Nice place

Stayed for 2 nights while in town. Got to the room, room looked nice and updated. Ac unit was old didn’t blow very cold air so room was hot. It rattled so couldn’t sleep was way to loud. Toilet ran non stop. One of the main reason for choosing this hotel was for the pool went to the pool. Was so cloudy and dirty looking couldn’t see the bottom in the shallow end, ended up skipping the pool for the trip. Breakfast was okay. Not too many options. Would be a great place to stay if they fixed just a few things.

We had 2 different kinds of bugs in 2 different rooms. We will not be staying at this hotel again.

My 2 daughters and I stayed here on July 4th and 9th. It was a stopover during a trip to NC to visit family. Our 2 queen beds suite was great. It was so quiet as we were on the 3rd floor and no room was above us. The indoor was so refreshing after being out in the heat. The Walmart was close by which was so convenient. We definitely will stay here again. Breakfast was delicious and the staff members were amazing!

Easy stay for quick stop on road trip

Our room smelled musky and then discovered the carpets were soaked with water and had no idea where the water came from and almost slipped on the tile due to our shoes being wet from the carpet. Went straight to front desk but they no other room to move us to and instead gave us 6 towels to lay on the carpet to soak up the water…what a disaster!
