Reviews
The hotel is generally well-liked for its location, cleanliness, and friendly staff. However, many guests express dissatisfaction with the outdated rooms, particularly the bathrooms, and the lack of certain amenities such as mini fridges and complimentary breakfast. Some guests also mention issues with parking and noise.
- Great location
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Outdated rooms and bathrooms
- Lack of certain amenities
- 5/5
Everyone and everything about our stay was was very enjoyable. Had a great time.
- 3/5
The room was dated but I expected that. Popcorn ceilings, old old furniture and carpet that made you wear something on your feet at all times. It just felt grimy. The best part of stay was Penthouse access to concierge service. Meals offered alot of options and the staff was very helpful and courteous. Best part of my stay.
- 5/5
Great elegant location to visit Charleston! Easy parking which is a lot in that city!
- 5/5
The property was amazing
- 5/5
We had an amazing stay! The staff was very professional and accommodating. Very spacious and well decorated property. We will be staying at this property when we come back to Charleston!
- 5/5
Clean, good location. Enjoyed the restaurant.
- 2/5
Very old hotel, rooms small, popcorn ceiling, probably hasn’t been updated in 25 years, paint falling off building on the pool side portion, definitely not worth the amount I paid
- 4/5
Food options were a bit limited. Not a great menu for lunch or dinner.
- 1/5
From front desk, to valet, to bar and restaurant staff, I was underwhelmed by the service and attentiveness that I received. Actually walked out of an empty lobby restaurant because I was never greeted by a server. The Marriott should be better for 500.00/night. Lobby seemed disheveled most of the time, staff showed no enthusiasm and room was dated and small with next to zero amenities
- 5/5
Our stay was quite comfortable. The hotel grounds and our room was very well-kept. The staff was friendly and the food was great!
- 5/5
We definitely will be back!
- 3/5
I was shocked that they charge $18 a day to self park on the lot. No water in the room. No breakfast. Over priced with poor service. We stayed for two days and never received clean towels.
- 3/5
Bathrooms were extremely tight as well Expected marriott to be more spacious 8-10min ride to king st by uber
- 2/5
This property is undergoing a renovation and it's hard to tell that any progress is being made. The view from our window was a bunch of old toilets left sitting outside. The hallways and rooms smell like very strongly scented deodorizer, which attaches itself to everything you bring with you. They don't even offer free coffee in the lobby in the mornings but instead charge you $4 for a crappy cup of Starbucks. What makes it much worse is how overpriced the rooms are. There's nothing here worth paying $500 a night for.
- 4/5
We are Bonvoy members and exclusively book Marriott hotels. But we didn’t earn any points for our visit. This just didn’t meet their usual standards. However, the restaurant and bar were excellent, as were the wait staff.
- 5/5
The staff were super nice
- 5/5
Great staff and location
- 5/5
Everything was great - the room, the breakfast, the parking, etc.
- 2/5
Mattress was terrible! Soft, squeaky. Bathroom was old and small. Paid too much for this room.
- 4/5
The hotel was clean and staff was friendly and helpful. The bar area and outdoor lounge area were nice. The room was nice. My only concern was the bathroom. It was small for the room. The shower was small and water flowed out on the floor.
- 4/5
You will need to uber to most things.
- 4/5
They only have breakfast buffet on weekends
- 4/5
Room was clean, staff attentive, breakfast buffet had lots of options
- 5/5
In general a good hotel
- 3/5
Uber ride to/from town. Hotel looks really dated-popcorn ceiling-uneven carpet innroom-dated furniture-honestly felt very expensive. $400 per night. Perhaps it was because there were some major events happening in town that rates were higher. Staff was very friendly though, although would not choose this location again if we came back to Charleston.
- 3/5
I wish I could say something nice about this but we stayed in a Hampton Inn the night before coming here and for almost 3 times the price had a less nice room and stay. My partner (a builder) kept commenting on the odd choices of fixtures (low end) in the bathroom. The real kicker was waking up to no electricity on our last morning, so no AC and no shower before checkout. No explanation, apologies or concessions from staff. Maybe offer late check out or hand out free coffee or even at the barest minimum acknowledge the inconvenience but nothing. It is a pretty long walk into the downtown so not great location either.

Replace furniture and beds
- 3/5
This property has seen its best days , cleaning service was not good , the carpet in our room was ripped and torn , which was a fall hazard
- 3/5
Shops about ten minutes away. Room was clean
- 5/5
Very comfortable. Got a nice view and next to the park.
- 1/5
The grout in the shower was dirty. The water drained slow in the sink and the room smelled like sour mop water.

Valet service was excellent.

Had a wonderful stay at Marriott! The room was spotless and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Everything made our stay relaxing and enjoyable!
- 3/5
Kris or Chris (beard front desk) was absolutely wonderful and I cannot give him enough kudos. When we checked in he was kind, courteous and helpful in every way. It is so nice to be greeted and assisted by someone so friendly & cheerful. 4pm in the afternoon. Unfortunately we had "neighbors" next door that it took 2 phone calls to front desk at 10:15pm, 10:45pm, and walk down to the front desk at 11:30pm (and this was a very kind woman) to get them to FINALLY shut down their party & music. When you pay over $400 a night for a room you have a high level of expectations from the hotel to do their part to help quiet down the party. I asked on the first phone call what time do you expect things to be "quiet?" The gentleman said "10pm - 7am are quiet hours." I felt like I had people in my room...that my bed was in the middle of the party...that is how loud they were. NOT ACCEPTABLE

nice hotel - close to MUSC - clean and comfortable
- 5/5
The property was beautifully decorated for the holidays and was very nice. Staff went above and beyond for us!!
- 5/5
Staff was great! Room was clean!
- 5/5
The Staff went above and beyond for us. My husband had surgery and we had to stay close by for 2 nights. After getting him back to the property they got him a wheelchair and checked on us!!! Do caring and thoughtful.
- 5/5
Good time
- 5/5
Yes it was visible
- 5/5
The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the room was clean. The staff was friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
Staff at check in was amazing. I believe God name was Noah (?)... Our initial reason for coming to Charleston was for a show at a local venue. The venue canceled at the last minute, so we came with no plans. No problem! Noah, at check in, gave me 3 or 4 options... one being Charleston Christmas Light show... and it made for a fantastic evening and weekend!
- 5/5
Matthew at the front desk is an exceptional employee! We'll be back!
- 1/5
Room bathroom
- 5/5
Excellent hotel we were in room 925. When the AC or heat came on the vent rattled making a loud noise. Heavy rust covers the door hinges to the bathroom which is not normal for a Marriott property.
- 5/5
The room was spotless, and all of the staff were quite nice and helpful.
- 5/5
Staff and amenities were great. Comfortable beds!
- 5/5
Great customer service and clean room!
- 2.5/5
Clean-coffee on site The staff was not very informative. Didn’t tell what side the room was on So we would know closest place to Park. No instruction to use the card key on the elevator. didn’t give me a total for the charge on the room till checkout.

We did not eat at hotel. Our view was the roof tops with HVAC units, standing water, no view.
- 5/5
Front desk was very helpful. Nice quiet room.
- 2/5
Disappointing
- 5/5
Very friendly and helpful staff, the pool area is beautiful. The lobby has a nice view of the river. Parking is in the back of the hotel, the extra cost for valet is likely worth it.
- 5/5
Everything was fine.
- 5/5
We had a great girls trip! The staff was wonderful! They helped us with everything we needed! Definitely will stay here again!
- 5/5
We just had one quick overnight stay. It was a perfect stay. The room was clean and views were incredible. The rooftop bar closed early. Breakfast was part of our concierge and was a nice option also so snacks and 14 story views.
- 5/5
Staff were very accommodating. We were having a tropical storm at the time.
- 5/5
A very clean room, comfortable bed, friendly staff, wonderful shower products
- 5/5
Beautiful property. The staff was exceptional from every person I encountered. Such a wonderful place to stay. I have already recommended to friends planning to visit.

This property was great for our visit to Charleston. Close enough to everything, but far enough to not feel crowded. We loved the little park across the road. It was a great spot to watch the sunset!
- 3.5/5
The grounds, the staff, the room. Shower tiles need an upgrade and bathroom is small, not enough bathroom amenities. Location requires an uber to get to tourist areas but they are about $5-6.

Liked the hotel - but it was missing a hot tub.

Replacing windows. Loud from 10 till 6.

Rented a balcony room, they upgraded us to a penthouse! Same size room but all the benefits with PH.

Very good

Location was perfect for attending a minor league baseball game and Citadel football game.

Everyone was kind and helpful

Mold. Wet mattress. Jack hammering construction.
- 4/5
Nice wish every room had a balcony though
- 5/5
I absolutely enjoyed my three day stay in Charleston. The hotel was worth what I paid.
- 5/5
Clean and we like the valet parking!
- 5/5
We were there for doctors appointment at the VA hospital. Was wondering if there’s a military discount. We will be coming back often
- 5/5
Very friendly staff. Very nice facility. Ample parking good restaurants in hotel
- 4/5
It was a pleasant stay overall
- 4/5
I was not happy with the valet parking the guy refused to park my truck he said they weren’t allowed to drive trucks like mind even front desk said they never heard of it
- 3/5
They were doing construction and banging the whole time . Also the safe did not work had to request towels and toilet paper 3 times
- 3/5
The staff at Saffire and location. No microwave in the room and our view from room 710 was terrible. The view was of the roof. The hotel could also use an upgrade and black water was coming out of the faucet.

The rooms were older and could use an udate but overall this stay was great.
- 1.5/5
Location good parking easy nicely laid out hotel Got a newly renovated room on top floor don’t think it had been tested before release to a customer. Door key access didn’t work had to go all the way back down to reception and took us ten mins running taps shower etc to get hot water fired up again
- 2/5
Our room was not cleaned with no explanation
- 2.5/5
It was clean Poor location and WAY overpriced
- 5/5
Nice property; very clean. Heated pool was nice. Good was okay.
- 5/5
Staff is friendly, great outdoor patio, good food, very convenient.
- 1/5
The property is very outdated and you can tell it needs to be renovated. The toilet kept flushing every 5 mins. The bathrooms are worn and broken. The rooms are very noisy and we decided to check out early
- 4/5
Good breakfast
- 2/5
The price was right and location decent. Lobby was clean and fitness center was decent. Rooms were outdated, bathrooms too small, room lighting was terrible and cleaners didn’t show up the first two days. The rooms need a major updating. Lighting in room and bathroom is poor: it’s either a super bright spotlight or pitch black. Nothing in between. Cleaners didn’t change towels or sheets until third day when we asked them directly. I would not stay again.
- 5/5
Great location to see Riverdogs. Publix right nearby. Excellent gym equipment and pool area was great.
- 4/5
Shower curtain was stained and liner smelled mildewed. They were prompt to provide new ones, but they said they didn’t know how to replace it and were ready to walk away. Needless to say, we showed her how to replace the shower curtain and made sure she took the smelly ones with her.
- 5/5
Close to Citadel.
- 5/5
Wonderful stay for my children and me!
- 4/5
This hotel was adjacent to the River Dog stadium. About $10.00 uber away from the French Quarter. Pool was so hot that it was more bath water than refreshing. But the room was good size and the bed was comfy. Bar had pricey but good drinks. Overall a good stay. Rooftop bar closed earlier than stated on the brochure but did not make or break the stay. I would stay here again.
- 4/5
Nice clean rooms, staff was great, food on property was good. Nice pool
- 3/5
This should be included for paying guests? Restaurant breakfast was $18 person for a buffett with dried up gravy and no bacon. Horrible! Price gauging!
- 5/5
Checking-in was stressful. The agent anxiety was high. She looked nervous. After giving are my reservation info. She just went into panoc mode. I waited and then she abruptly said excuse me. Im standing not knowing whats going on, qhats the problem. She comes back 10 mins later to tell me the Onekey on file she cant use unless she physically has the car. But you didnt ask me for the car? Anyway, the card had not arrived yet. But I was prepared to use another card. So i gave her my Visa. She then hands me 2 meal vouchers and states these are for Saturday, there is me, my daughter and granddaughter. So I ask her what about Friday? She just stands there panicking. I explain to her that today is Thursday ehat about Friday. She talks to herself, whats today, ok Friday. Yes, ok her 2 for Friday. Then i have to ask her what about my granddaughter, i need 3 vouchers. She freaks out. Finds her manager. I know my reciept shows 3 breakfast. Anyway the manager ask for her age. Shes 10. Then tell her yes, guve her another voucher. Then she tells me I have complimentary parking. Really, because I thought i paid for that. She response oh yes, a package. OMG, checking-in while Black!

Pretty hotel
- 5/5
Stayed for an extended weekend with my adult kids. We had a wonderful weekend. The staff was very helpful and the pool and rooftop lounge were awesome.
- 5/5
Great service!
- 5/5
The amenities were excellent. I wish the bathroom had a vanity. Enjoyed the beautiful outside lounge area inside and outside. I will return to stay.
- 4/5
A little out dated but overall good experience
- 3/5
It’s ok.
- 4/5
Hotel was clean, had cafe, buffet breakfast and gym with pool and a comfortable outdoor space. The rooftop bar, Aqua was closed several nights we were there.
- 5/5
great
- 2/5
For the money I expected a whole lot more
- 5/5
Charleston Marriott was great! We were close enough to drive to King Street and the rest of the shops and restaurants, and the swimming pool was a great amenity too.
- 3/5
Nice common areas but the rooms smelled damp and musty. Also, for the price the rooms were pretty dated.
- 5/5
Stay here 4 to 5 times a year on personal trips and have always found it to be great!

- 5/5
Great stay. Will definitely come back soon
- 3.5/5
Old dusty carpet in the room
- 5/5
Our friends recommended your hotel so we decided to book there. We enjoyed our stay very much (didn't want to leave). We ate in the hotel restaurant several times and it was great! Sat at the bar several times and the bartenders were nice (except for one she didn't smile at all). Our room was VERY clean. The parking was the only thing that was challenging. We will definitely be back!
- 3/5
The staff were pleasant and the breakfast was good.
- 3/5
Old - popcorn ceiling, old stained rug, rusty shower head, broken tile in shower. House keeping only came once in a 3 day stay - had to ask for towels twice
- 4/5
Beautiful property, friendly staff. Note that parking is about $15/day, not walkable to town. Also, our room wouldn’t cool below 67° which is hot for me since I’m a hot sleeper. Also only 2 creamers provided and I used one that was chunky. Starbucks in the lobby for $ but I’m not a Starbucks girl.
- 4/5
Isolated
- 4/5
Patio is a nice sitting area. Pool area was clean
- 3/5
Nothing super wrong but for the money it wasn't impressive, staff was mediocre except for Tatiana.
- 3/5
Made reservations for a king size bed and got two queens for just me and my wife. They couldn’t fix it because we booked with a three party company(Booking.com). Asked for a view toward the Cooper River Bridge got a view of the Publix and the top of the dinner rooms roof. Not worth the money I spent for one night.
- 4/5
The hotel was nice, but not amazing. There was a problem. One morning, a fire alarm did go off and the hotel was evacuated. Luckily there was not a fire and the guests returned. but the staff did not help the guests, guide the guests and it was discovered that on one of the upper floors an exit door was locked and the guest had to take the elevator to the lobby during the evacuation. Concerning.
- 5/5

- 5/5
Okay
- 5/5
I stayed with my daughter while touring a college. Safe, clean, and welcoming. The staff were nice and helpful. Would stay again!
- 2/5
I do not recommend nor will I stay there again unless they rethink customer satisfaction
- 5/5
But the meeting room was frigid both days!
- 2.5/5
Room are dated and gross. Carpets are bunching and disgusting. Location is just ok, not really any restaurants within walking distance.
- 4/5
Good bed, shower, restaurant, bar, conference rooms. In the morning workers where walking by my room windows (2nd floor room 207) because there where works to the room above me. That made terrible annoying noices. The reception did not want to help me with it. Overall I found the price quality poor.
- 5/5
It was exactly the peaceful environment I needed with the stress of my mother’s surgery.
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly and the room was quiet and very clean.
- 5/5
Complimentary breakfast was really good and the staff working there was especially nice and friendly.
- 5/5
Great place to stay at! Loved the outdoor seating area. Had a room with a balcony, and would highly recommend… beautiful views.
- 5/5
The night staff was exceptional. The night manager and the male night desk clerk were kind and very helpful
- 5/5
Excellent hotel near downtown. Great restaurant. Friendly service.
- 4/5
The staff was super friendly and helpful
- 4/5
The guest rooms are dated and worn. The guest rooms do not have adequate sound insulation. Otherwise, a fairly good quality hotel.

- 5/5
Very Nice and convenient location
- 4/5
The beds were exceptionally comfortable. Loved the rooftop area. During our stay the pool was not available for the first 3 days and that was very disappointing as I had specifically looked for hotels with pools. The reception staff were very good and helpful except for one individual who was not helpful at all.
- 3/5
It needs updating in the room.
- 4/5
Didn’t like that they didn’t have inside pool or hot tub.
- 4.5/5
Great location Nothing
- 4/5
I'm not sure when the conference was, but there were tables with dirty dishes there all weekend. The windows in our room were filthy. Saw a cockroach in the courtyard.
- 3/5
Beds were very b uncomfortable. Best part of stay was the view from roof top bar that I read about & was not advised I had access to.
- 1/5
We liked the Hotel except for one thing. We were kept up by a buzzing noise all night. I talked to Hotel staff about it and all they said was we are sorry. Noise kept us up all night but it was too late in the evening to try and move to another room. I felt they could of handled this better
- 1/5
Expedia took my $575.60 via Paypal and sent me a confirmation even though the hotel was overbooked. Upon arrival I learned that my Expedia reservation and confirmation were worthless and I could not have a room. Desk Manager (Julie) politely explained that someone made a big mistake, but they could not let me have a room even though it was paid for. Seeking refund now.
- 5/5
Great place!
- 4/5
Decent quality stay. Staff were friendly, although was rebuffed for late checkout on a very quiet day at hotel. Location is not very convenient.
- 5/5
Muy buena ubicación serca de todo
- 5/5
Enjoyed my stay.
- 4/5
Breakfast was great.
- 5/5
Very clean hotel. Loved the valet car service for only 22$ a night! Other hotels in charleston are double that! Great restaurant inside hotel. Pool large and plenty of seating, love the fan in bathroom! So many hotels have no fan in bathroom making it hot and gross to shower. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Would definitely stay here again,
- 5/5
Highly recommended. Check-in was fast, very efficient, everything was clean, the rooms, elevators, pool, patio, etc. 10/10👌
- 5/5
Would stay again.
- 5/5
Perfect location and very clean
- 5/5
Very happy with the property
- 5/5
Nice hotel and friendly staff. However the hotel needs some updates.
- 5/5
The bartender at the rooftop bar side eyed us several times and never helped us…he walked past us several times helping ppl who walked up after us several times. We finally left and went to the restaurant bar on the lobby floor and although helpful they we’re not sympathetic at all nor was anything done about it. We had our cocktail and appetizers and left. The hotel isn’t as close to things as we would have hoped but that’s on us I guess for not doing better research. Honestly would not book here again. The front desk person was lovely and gave us access to the concierge lounge which was great, and she provided an entire sheet of restaurant recommendation and a large city map which was helpful.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel.
