The hotel offers a lovely view and convenient shuttle service to downtown Charleston. The staff is consistently friendly and helpful. However, the property is aging and in need of updates, with frequent complaints about only one working elevator and noise from traffic. Some guests have also reported issues with cleanliness and maintenance in the rooms and common areas.

Sand in the tub, water in the shower didn’t drain very well. The hotel needs an update . Dirty gloves in the elevator. Paper on the floor when we check in. Hair and toothpaste in the sink. Female server wasn’t friendly. Buffet was dry not fresh. The happy hour was only a couple of drinks . Very limited variety.

We stairs the week at another hotel in the area that was newer but poorly constructed. For the weekend we decided to stay here. It was much more affordable and for the price the views and the service were excellent. Well the hotel was a bit dated. The place was very clean. The only reason why we gave four stars on cleanliness is because some of the floors and carpets are a bit older and appear faded and are holding some dirt. In general the bathroom and room were very clean. We definitely stay here again.

Our room had a beautiful view back toward MUSC and the city. The desk agents were friendly and helpful. While the rooms have been updated there needs to be better maintenance given the older nature of the property. I would stay at this property again but I hope they’ll invest in maintenance a bit more.

Location was convent Upon arrival there were no carts to load luggage onto. Front desk said they would get us some but none showed up. We had a 8 month old, including our items so my husband had to make 3 trips back and forth from the car. Room was dirty. Bugs were crawling on the ceiling. The lights were flickering in room, and shower light went out. Had to call maintenance to replace. House keeping never came to give us more towels so I had to go back down to front desk and get more.

The hotel overall was fine, a little more rundown than I anticipated, but not dirty feeling. The room was probably as clean as it was going to ever be. The balcony door was permanently locked, which was a bummer. Didn’t interact with the staff besides checking in, had to wait a few minutes to be helped because both employees at the front were trying to figure something out for another guest. The location was very convenient, as it was not in downtown but only an 8-10 minute uber ride to Meeting Street. Leaving the hotel parking lot was a bit dangerous due to the exit being leading out into a busy road with oncoming traffic hidden by a blind curve.

This is an older Holiday Inn and has not been refurbished. The restaurant located at the 13th floor has a panoramic view from every table, but a limited menu. We found the salmon for dinner to be quite good. Breakfast is not “free”, unlike most other IHG hotels.

Near plantations. Staff very helpful in sorting out noise issue. Noisy, road and guests next door. Location, no food options nearby except for waffles, and inhouse restaurant closed for lunch and poor and limited dinner options. My crab cakes were about 2 bites each for nearly $30 and had to buy crap from lobby to stop feeling hungry.

The location was convenient to downtown and James Island. The beds were comfortable. Not as pictured online. An old property with partial upgrades to the room. Lobby and elevators are dirty as well as carpeting in hallways. The gym is a joke! The pool is small and outdated and you can't even have coffee by the pool early am because it doesn't open til 9:00am. Our room bathroom smelled like urine, was dirty and balcony was facing a trash dumpster!

It was located convenient to the hospital (we were in town visiting a patient). The room was very rundown. Paint was peeling, paint splatters on the bench, flooring coming up in spots. The air conditioner was so loud!! On top of the AC unit itself being loud, a piece was broken, so there was a continuous rattle anytime it was on. We were not given enough towels. This is an older hotel so flooring has been updated. We just found our shower curtain rod crooked so we had to tie the end of the shower curtain to the end so water wouldn't get all over the floor. Basic amenities no microwave except in the lobby in a cabinet. We enjoyed the hot water in the afternoons/evenings. And the cookies were a hit! Convenient location and free shuttle service into town was convenient.

And also there was a roach running around in the bathroom one night when I went in there And there is no microwave in the room even though there is a refrigerator which is odd for most places that's common The main things going for this place is the views from the top floor and free parking and the shuttle. No there are was not a minibar in our room. The annoying part was the fridge kept shutting down. And if you had food in there you had to constantly check it.I know they're trying to save energy. Food not worth the money they charged.

The room was average at best for the price point. Good views of the bay, but the rooms need updating big time. You can see spots on all the walls where there was previous water damage and it was just painted over. The tank on our toilet in room 812 was falling off the bowl. Room service only came to service our room one time around 9am while we were still sleeping and never came back throughout the entire stay. The A/C was very loud and reeked of mildew. The mini fridge made loud crackling noises in the middle of the night to the point where it needed to just be unplugged our entire stay. Spend the few extra hundred a night and get a much better experience would be my recommendation for anyone looking to stay here.

This property needs a massive upgrade, not a paint over. The paint in the rooms is sagging and bubbling up, there was rust coming from the bathtub drain, the railing on the porch was so rusted that it didn’t connect at points. The shuttle bus was out of service so a minivan was offered. We pulled back the cover to find dirty sheets and slept on top of the covers. We couldn’t wait to leave. This hotel hurts the Holiday Inn brand.

It could be nice but it is in sad need of updating. We had a suite on the 14th floor for 4 nights. Only 1 of 2 elevators worked. Everything about the space screamed cheap. It was furnished with low end Ikea-like furniture. The kitchen was furnished with a coffee maker and a frig. No microwave. No paper towels. Regarding the bathroom: that was the worst single ply toilet paper I have ever experienced. The tub had a grab bar but it is in the wrong place. The shower curtain rod bends down so the curtain constantly slides open from both ends. The floor of the tub is slick. There is nothing to hold onto when entering or exiting the tub. The water pressure is terrible. I like the soap set-up. The bed was comfortable. The TV came and went frequently. The floors looked dirty and felt stickey. We only used the restaurant for breakfast one day. I had the buffet and I liked it very much. The server came near us and said, "Follow me." No smile. No ,"Good morning." Just, "Follow me." The food was good. Everyday we had to go to the front desk and ask for coffee because housekeeping never replenished our supply. Same with cream and sweetner. The front desk staff was very pleasant. Oh... getting in and out off of 17 is a death trap! The view was great both from our suite and the restaurant.

Staff seemed bothered by questions/shuttle was late-we had to call an uber so we were not late for campus tour and when we used the shuttle it was clearly in need of major repairs-seemed unsafe to driving. Pool was closed-not disclosed on website and staff didn’t not disclose when I called to confirm reservation.

OMG!! When I pulled in the parking lot I immediately regretted my decision. Granted I expected the property to have wear and tear being as close to the water as it is and because of it being located in historic Charleston, SC. Well let me say that would have been great compared to what I saw and experienced. Let me share. 1. The front desk staff barely grunted a hello and were happy to ignore the booked guest without hesitation. 2. When we walked into the room the smell was horrendous. So much so I had to use air freshner while in the room and constantly burn a scented candle just to be able to tolerate that said smell. Yes you guessed it we tried to stay out all day and most of the night until we could barely keep our eyes opened. 3. One day the cleaning staff literally decided not to clean our room and the day they did decide to clean they put soiled sheets on the bed. But the grand topper was number 4. Which is the worst of all things to happen the toilet flooded andwe had to call the staff yes the came and left a plunger sitting in a grocery bag under the bathroom sink. I checked out and tell the front desk my experience and she asked if I told the font desk. I'm like Girlll. If other hotels were not booked we would have left. Take your thousand plus dollars and go somewhere else.Even if you voice your concerns you get a dry "Oh I'm sorry." DO NOT STAY HERE AT ALL. Runnn!! Yep False Advertising at its finest!!

The staff initially gave us keys to a room that was not turned over when we got there, so we had to take our things back to the front desk. After about 10 minutes of technical difficulties, they gave us new keys to a room that did not work either and we ended up having to go back down to the lobby to fix this. Once we were in our room that was supposed to be ready, the maintenance men had to come in and replace the TV remote. The TV was also unable to play any streaming services or smart cast from an iPhone, which seemed outdated for a Holiday Inn and considering the price of the room. The bathroom was also not very nice as the toilet seat was broken and the shower basin had been painted over to seemingly hide rust, but the rust was still showing in various areas. The AC also did not seem calibrated as the room was too cold some nights and unable to cool off on other nights.

The building is Extremely outdated. Turns out, the locals call it "The trash can". The outside is littered with cigarette butts. All over. The first morning we were there, part of the lobby ceiling caved in. The front door was broken. No ice in the ice machines. We did have a large room. Old and ratty, It was subpar at best. It was also conveniently located between meeting rooms where setup makes all kinds of racket very early in the morning and late at night. We slept very little. They fail to mention the door to the balcony has been closed for good. I wouldn't advertise it if people can't use it. To be completely honest, the ONLY thing this hotel has going for it is the staff. They were very kind and helpful. The overall stay was an extreme disappointment. We wouldn't go back if it was free. You get what you pay for.

The location of the hotel is close to downtown, and it is convenient to park the car there (free parking) and take the shuttle bus to downtown. The hotel itself has a unique cylinder like structure, and my room has an view of the river. Room is relatively clean, but you can see the ages of the hotel. Staffs are pretty friendly.

Enjoyed the rooftop restaurant and bar, we chose to go there each evening instead of going elsewhere. The shuttle to the City Market was VERY convenient and made it so much easier for us to sightsee. The desk staff, driver, and all other staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely return to this location the next time we plan to visit Charleston.

Room was a little run down, but was willing to deal with it for the price. The beds were very comfortable. I didn't like that there was no door between the room and the bathroom area, making it so that any time someone needed to use the restroom the whole room would be subject to its lights. The hotel was clean and everything in order. It was also quiet. The bed was comfy with extra pillows. They have an hourly shuttle that drops off downtown Charleston so you don't have to deal with city parking or parking fees. Rooms are basic, but clean and quiet. I booked for four nights. I was booked in room 504. Front desk staff was cordial upon arrival. The lobby was okay but all went downhill once the elevator doors opened. The carpet was old and dingy. To open the door for my room, I had to forcibly push the door open and closed with my body. Expect to hear traffic noise as while the balcony door is unable to be opened for guest safety but it is poorly sealed. The toilet and shower share the same space with the vanity stationed separately. The toilet/shower room has not ventilation leaving you to have to keep the door open leaving you without privacy. There’s also no light in that space so if you’re sharing the room with someone you’ll definitely be disturbing them if you turned the light on to use the toilet. In the bathroom, There was also a hole in the wall, rusting towel rack, dirty walls, floor and door, and crack in the toilet. By the end of the stay, I was relocated to another room after waking up to wet a floor, drying it up myself only to return to a totally wet floor - source: condensation from the balcony door being poorly sealed and the hotels location on the river. The hotel did not preemptively offer any accommodations or compensation for the inconveniences. I will definitely not be returning.

Unfortunately, it is a dated hotel and not always well covered up. Pool and fitness area show their age and the rooms lack detail. This was probably amazing 30 years ago, now it’s ok. Biggest problem is the location. Leaving the hotel is dangerous at all hours due to a very short on-ramp the merges to a left lane at 55-85mph… foliage is not trimmed to help so your merge is a little over 50 yards if you’re driving a truck and have decent vision. Would not return.

Breakfast was good, with a great view on top floor, but here as well, the vinyl on the seats were worn and peeling off. Most of these issues we noiticed are easily fixed. Be very careful exiting the hotel with your car. Very dangerous, right on to highway.

Hotel is close to downtown with a shuttle making it convenient. For the price, the hotel is pretty expensive considering the amenities. The hotel was clean just dated. Parking is fine, but pulling out of the parking lot the trees need to be trimmed to pull out into fast moving traffic you can’t see around the corner. Dangerous

In general, the hotel was okay. The cockroach wasn't every nice thing to see in your room before going to sleep.

We have stayed at this inn a number of times over the years. It’s an old in, so you can’t expect things to be perfect. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We could have used an easy chair, as there was only a desk chair. The location is great and you can’t beat the views. The ladies at the front desk were wonderful. The only disappointment was the grounds. There’s plenty of parking - a real plus in Charleston - but the parking lot needs work. Dead trees, unkempt greenery. There were nice plantings of flowers at the entrance. Since the inn is situated right in the highway at the bridge, you would think the owners would pay more attention to the lot.

The staff is absolutely lovely. The room was another story. Whatever renovations were done, they were not done well, there was paint dripped on floors, ceiling tiles cracked and lifted, a 1 inch gap on top of the door, cracks in tile that were just spackled over with I don’t know what, flickering lights, dirty hand prints on walls, you name it. I cannot believe what I had to pay to spend one night here. But it was Charleston and spring, so they can charge that. But absolute robbery. (Ps, I was charged $600 for one night).

Our Kurig didn’t work they were supposed to bring us a new one but it never got there. Morning 2 went to make coffee. Couldn’t. Floor in room was dirty and sticky. We stayed 2 nights. Never got fresh towels or sheets. Expensive stay. Expected better. Had recently been to the holiday Inn in Orlando . It was a bigger bathroom and clean facility. The windows in the room were so dirty I couldn’t take any pictures of the river which was why I cancelled the other hotel for this one at twice the price. Very disappointing

For $400 per night, this hotel needs major repairs inside and outside, as well as it needs to be updated and cleaned. I am sorry to say, but I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Good place to lay your head. Not a great place to hang out at. Conveniently located since they have a shuttle.

What I didn't like was the room. The double bed was like a twin bed and the bathroom was for handicapped people. No couch just one small chair. When we asked why we had a handicap room and ask for an upgrade, she said it's because we booked through a third party which is EXPEDIA and an upgrade would be $400 per night?????

The electric was out at the hotel. Tried to communicate with Hotels.com to initiate a refund. They communicated a couple times stating they couldn’t reach anyone at the hotel. I responded with their electric is down and calls can’t be taken. Hotels.com said hotel has to deal with it. Still waiting to speak to management at hotel.

The staff really went above and beyond during a power outage at the property. Every one was incredibly friendly. It's in kind of an odd location, literally in the middle of route 17. To leave, you have to make a fairly dangerous turn into very fast traffic. Room was fine, and clean, with a nice view.

Great location since its a short distance to downtown, but is really due for a renovation. Room was pretty basic and clean and did the trick for a weekend trip. Front desk lady was a bit rude.

It was clean and the beds were comfortable. You can see that they have updated the furnishings. However we stayed on on of the top floors and early morning Hot water didn’t exist. Probably because not enough people were awake to force the water to the top floors during normal AM or evening bathing times. The place was convenient for the price, yet difficult to get in and out of because of its location. Overall it was decent, not highend like most hotels in the area, but sufficient.
