I decided to try this hotel instead of the Graduate. The rooms just look and feel more modern and bigger. The rooms are less expensive than the Graduate and onsite parking is cheaper and easier too. Both hotels are within striking distance of where my daughter lives. Also, this hotel was quieter....not so much going on in the lobby as the Graduate. Will def stay here from here on out when visiting my daughter in college. My key card didn't work after I had used it once. I had my cooler with me and didn't want to leave it by my door while going to fix the key issue. So I had to lug a 30-40 pound cooler downstairs as I went to settle the issue. Also, I had to take my cooler down to the first floor for ice since the ice machine on the 4th floor didn't work.

Beautiful hotel

The room was really nice! Big comfy bed and nice couch for watching some TV in the evening. Location was perfect for someone visiting the university for work. Some of the staff were very friendly. Gym was great! And I availed of the pay per use laundry facilities, which were really useful for me and handy to have on site. No free coffee in the lobby, or water fountain (there was a thing for drinking water but you couldn't fill up a water bottle there), which is a first for me in an American hotel.

Very good

Great location, clean rooms, good showers. Breakfast was crazy expensive -- skipped that option. Parking lot was a little challenging and incurred a hidden fee.
- 5/5
Had to have surgery and they were very accommodating with my needs. Anne the front desk person was so understanding and considerate. Thank you
- 4/5
It was good but the heat was cold a lot of the time there, the rest was very nice and clean
- 3/5
No free coffee. No good creamer.for coffee.

The staff was very nice I booked and fully paid for my stay since May 16th. Got at the hotel and they couldn’t find my reservation, and they were all booked. The staff was nice and tried to help me to find other hotel since I had a ticked to a concert. I drove 4 hours and it was very unpleasant the fact that I paid for a hotel room and I never got the chance to use it. And the next morning I received a receipt from the hotel with my supposed check in/check out time and the pricing I paid. Will definitely fight for my $400 back since I paid and didn’t had the room.

Convenient location to the hospital. Clean room and comfortable bed. We paid extra for the breakfast, they did not honor it. Staff was dismissive about it and basically said it wasn’t their problem. Only one of the staff that we encountered was approachable.

Location and desk No Laundry service
- 5/5
The card scanner for parking garage is in awkward position.
- 5/5
Room is clean. Staff responsive and willing to assist. There are many shops and eateries available within the vicinity. You can also make purchases in the hotel lobby.
- 4/5
Very good
- 3/5
Almost $950 for a Friday and Saturday night stay and that did not include the $10 daily parking fee. The coffeemaker in our room was filthy and no complimentary coffee is offered in the lobby.
- 4/5
Fairly priced for the UVA area.
- 3/5
My floor was not vacuumed before I entered my room not while I stayed as the small fish oil pills from whoever stayed in the room before was evidence of lack of cleaning. Very noisy outside with the high traffic area and emergency vehicles.
- 4/5
The staff were pleasant and helpful and the process of registration was straightforward. Parking was convenient if a little odd (we were on the fourth floor and there was not access from the garage to the fourth floor directly). The main draw back to the hotel was the room itself. We opted for a king suite and the pull out bed was *very* firm. Additionally, the AC struggled to keep either of the rooms at a comfortable temperature until almost morning. Since this was late July it made for less than ideal sleeping. Overall it was acceptable though the price might be a little higher than it should be.
- 5/5
Overall great experience. Will return for sure.
- 5/5
Good stay for Charlottesville near the university.
- 4/5
This hotel hasn’t aged well
- 5/5
The room was well priced, clean and quiet. Beds were comfortable. The only thing I was not happy about was that the door keys kept losing their magnetic ability to open door. Espresso in the morning would have been nice.
- 4/5
However what made my stay great was the staff. I had problems with my room and they immediately put me in one that was much better. They did everything to accommodate my needs including offering an umbrella when it rained.
- 3/5
The room was out dated bathroom have broken tiles on the floor and air conditioner was hard to set
- 4/5
Convenient option for family to stay and walk to shops and visit campus.

Loved it. Great staff. Killer location.

I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott at 1201 W Main St, Charlottesville, Virginia, on March 3, 2025, the night before my breast cancer surgery at UVA Hospital, located just down the road. I checked out at 4:30 a.m. to undergo a procedure to remove the cancer and parts of both breasts. Now, three weeks into my recovery and still homebound, I reviewed the receipt from check-out and was shocked by the charges. I was billed for a 'general tip' despite not leaving one, a full day of daycare when I have no children and brought no guests, and a spa bath I didn’t use due to strict pre-surgery restrictions. This reservation was made through Hotels.com, an Expedia Group company, and I was charged $198.00 for a 13-hour pre-surgery stay. I’m requesting a full refund for this stay, as these charges are unjustified. This review will remain posted until I feel Courtyard by Marriott has adequately addressed my complaint to my satisfaction

Great location. Staff was super helpful
- 5/5
Great location for visiting UVA and the med center.
- 5/5
Ciara and Amy at the front desk were very nice and personable! Helped me to set up my next stay! Room was very clean and well taken care of by a sweet young lady (I did not get her name) but left her a tip with note. The manager was also very pleasant. The only dislike we had, was having to pay for parking. $10 a day. For those of us that are seniors and have to get to UVA hospital with an overnight stay, do not appreciate the extra add on. Overall an A stay!
- 5/5
Just make that parking cardkey slot easier to reach :)

Big comfortable rooms. Great Starbucks inside hotel! Amazing area next to everything!
- 4/5
Had to stay b/c of surgery the next day and due to approaching snowstorm. Within walking distance to hospital. Courteous staff and parking garage was convenient
- 5/5
Nice place to stay near UVa & walkable to downtown.
- 5/5
Good hotel right in downtown. Good restaurant options within walking distance. Parking is $10 in the garage behind the hotel. Only issue was the entrance to the hotel is kinda hidden so I had to circle around a couple times.
- 4/5
The room was ok. The only real issue I had was the mattress. It actually looked worse than it slept it just looked lumpy. Everything else was good. I liked the TV and choices we had as far as the various channels that were available.
- 5/5
Staff is accommodating, professional, and kind. So rare to find these days.
- 3/5
Proximity to UVA campus is excellent! The hotel lobby is too quiet.
- 5/5
I arrived a day early and they were very accommodating in making sure a had a room for Wednesday night. Also the hamburger I had at the bar was excellent!
- 4/5
Easy parking and at a convenient location.
- 4/5
The front desk staff is horrible… slow and rude
- 3/5
Very dated bathroom. Good service. Clean.
- 3/5
My towel rack fell off the wall when I touched it. The closet folding door hinges were loose and the screws may have been stripped. The drawers were off kilter and didn't close easily. The carpet was dirty. There was rarely any sugar in the coffee area. The Bistro was so poorly lit that I didn't realize it was open until the end of my long stay. When I realized it was open at times, I started getting breakfast there and it was wonderful. Great eggs, crispy bacon and potatoes. Staff was very kind and helpful.
- 5/5
The only issue was the bathroom door lock didn't work and the curtain had a stain. Staff and bistro are fantastic.
- 3/5
It was average. I was most disappointed that the summary on Expedia said "Breakfast" when it should have said "Paid breakfast available" All they had available that I could see was lemon water. There were cookies out on a cart when I arrived but they were just laying out, uncovered and anyone could sneeze on them or manhandle them so I wasn't about to touch them. The garage was very dirty with rubbish and leaves gathered in corners. Several men were out in the parking garage, smoking marijuana. One guy in his car was slumped over and looked like he may be on drugs. Like everything else these days, they were probably understaffed and the staff they do have is probably underpaid. It looked like management had a fairly laissez-faire attitude about the facility.
- 5/5
It’s the first time in a long time that I thought what a nice clean room and bathroom at a hotel
- 4/5
A great option when you want to be close to campus and walking distance to lots of options at UVA. Super clean. Easy parking. Great value for the location.
- 4/5
Did not like being charged for parking without prior notice.
- 3/5
The bathroom and bathroom towels were pretty disgusting. Little black hairs everywhere.
- 4/5
Very close to the UVA campus.
- 4/5
Great place to stay by UVA!
- 2/5
The room service staff did not change the sheets on the left bed. There was a lot of body hair from a previous tenant. I now know I will need to turn down the covers before evening on any future stay,
- 5/5
The hotel was in a very convenient, nice neighborhood that was close to all the places that we had to go. The hotel was clean and provided complimentary coffee. The parking was convenient but did cost ten dollars a day.
- 4/5
We stayed here to be close to the Children’s hospital. It was advertised that the place was renovated. The room was not. The bed was very firm. Only 1 sink in the room. We requested a king size bed and it was a queen. Upon check-in receptionist was rude but the rest of the receptionists were helpful and polite. If we have another surgery we will be switching to the graduate which is just as close.
- 5/5
It was nice. Friendly staff
- 4/5
The drinking glasses in the room didn’t look clean. Otherwise, everything was nice.
- 5/5
Everyone was so very friendly and so very helpful. It was a pleasure staying there. It was also so very quiet.
- 4/5
Nothing fancy but is clean, comfortable and perfectly located on the main street next to campus. Three minute walk to The Corner, 10 minutes to The Rotunda. Friendly, helpful staff. No restaurant, but right next door is a charming breakfast/lunch spot with delicious food. Will be staying here every time I come to C’ville.
- 3/5
The staff was nice. I had an emergency with my newborn and he was transferred to UVA to the NICU, for an unexpected visit late in the evening and they they would not work with the cost at all. When you have an emergency like that and it was after 7pm when you made the reservation, l think you should work with you.
- 1/5
The lady at the front desk was very rude.I haven’t seen such bad customer service in a long time.
- 5/5
Our room was very clean and it was nice and quiet!
- 2/5
I filtered Expedia for Free Breakfast and the front desk said I needed to check my Expedia email to see. I did not see anything regarding free breakfast so I went without.
- 3/5
No breakfast or regular coffee included. Will not stay @ this location again.
- 5/5
Great location to UVA and nightlife
- 4/5
Basic amenities and features. Limited food service available. Large rooms . Very quiet. Staff at front desk is amazing. Helpful and really go the extra mile. Especially Chris!
- 4/5
The customer service was impeccable! Every staff member i encountered was polite, friendly, and very helpful!
- 3/5
It wasn’t very clean. I found hairs on the sheets and the bathroom
- 5/5
Parking is tight for a truck. Hotel is nice clean and convenient.
- 5/5
The UVA Charlottesville Marriott is great for all of my needs. It is in walking distance to the hospital where I will be tomorrow. Very nice personal, check in was quick and easy, room is clean and comfortable. I’m sure I will stay here again,
- 3/5
The woman who checked us in was rude and clearly needed to go home. The room was comfortable and location was ideal for a UVA parent.
- 5/5
Our overnight stay was great. Gabe checked us in, what a fantastic first impression he gave. He has such a positive attitude.
- 4/5
The agent checking me in could have been more informative. I was asked if I needed parking (yes), but wasn't told that there was a fee. No mention was made of the housekeeping schedule, either (it turned out to be every other day for my week-long stay). Being interrupted several times by "housekeeping" on check-out day (12 noon check-out) when I was trying to sleep in was a real annoyance. I'll stay here again, but next time will be sure to clarify parking and housekeeping routines.
- 3/5
We were supposed to have two queen beds but ended up with a king which made it difficult to sleep with a young child. We were not told there would be an extra charge for garage parking before our stay. Also the second room key let me into the garage, but would not open the door to the hotel or my room. I’m handicapped and the extra walking made my body sore. Would not recommend this hotel. Will avoid staying there again.
- 5/5
Excellent location to UVA
- 5/5
Super nice staff…
- 5/5
Great place but they need to have a big sign intro t of the hotel. I went around and around trying to find it. Even my GPS got confused and took me to a parking spot on the side
- 4/5
We were there for one night, visiting UVA. The property is a convenient walk to the campus, has great eating options within walking distance. Parking is attached to the hotel with easy access to the floor with the rooms, it’s free and we were able to leave our car in the garage after checkout to finish our tour of the campus before leaving Charlottesville. Rooms are nice, clean and comfortable. They have a fitness center that is well equipped with new machines. Only complain for us was the bedsheets and pillows were crumpled, like someone had used them. The bed was properly made with the covers & comforter tucked tightly so we didn’t not realize what the sheets under looked like until we got ready to go to bed. Too late in the night to get them changed so we slept on them and reported it to the front desk at check out. They were apologetic about it and I assume had we called the previous night they would have sent house cleaning to change them. Overall was a pleasant stay.
- 4/5
Nice work space, comfortable rooms!
- 5/5
It was very convenient for our purpose.
- 2/5
The hotel is fine. Nice room. Clean. The night shift staff was friendly. Unfortunately, the stay was marred by a bad check-in experience. The check-in staff was slow and inefficient and there was a huge line. It took about 1/2 hour to check in. Others were very frustrated as well. This should be a very simple thing to fix. Otherwise you will lose a lot of customers.
- 5/5
Close and walking distance to UAV
- 5/5
Overall it’s great
- 3/5
Convenient to the university
- 2/5
Were given room that had not been cleaned
- 2/5
Location to arena
- 3/5
Check in was a little difficult. We were told that the type of room reserved was not available. After some discussion, a room was somehow found. The room itself was great.
- 2/5
I don’t like I have to pay parking it’s to Spence for small room and pay the breakfast
- 5/5
Easy, convenient location. Clean. Nice workout facility.
- 5/5
A friendly, nice, convenient place for where we needed to be.
- 5/5
It was great.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly. Hotel was very clean and quiet
- 1/5
Very disappointed . Hotel is going through renovations , while getting in my bed I stepped on a screw beside my bed , also at 1230 I’m woken by the air completely cutting off to never come back on, , I laid there in complete silence hot! I was also put into a handicap room which was fine but no hair dryer , no blanket and missing trash cans . Never again
- 5/5
👍
- 5/5
Marriott consistent quality, you get what you expect. Breakfast at the hotel was surprisingly good but expensive.
- 5/5
Clean, comfortable, affordable and walking distance to UVA hospital.
- 5/5
Close proximity to Uva hospital. Parking garage attached to hotel- very convenient
- 2/5
Great place to stay but the front desk wasn’t prepared for the number of folks checking in- took about 30 minutes and the line was out to door. While the property says it has a bar/restaurant, it’s not operational due to COVID/staff shortage. Plenty of options nearby but this would have been nice yo know. Rooms are nice and well outfitted.
- 5/5
Great service where we arrived. Clean rooms. The only thing i didn't like was a $10 charge left on my card for parking. Parking isn't free here.
- 3/5
We spent more time at the front desk, getting our room key re-keyed a dozen times daily. Our room lock was even repaired in an attempt to fix the issue. But it did not work, even for access to the gym. Nice staff early in the day, but when I expressed our key concerns, the front desk staff just asked me my room number and name, re-keyed the room card, and handed it back to me. No apology or concern, not even a thank you. Poor impression!
- 5/5
Like being in a place with historical scenery.
- 4/5
Nice, spacious room. Can walk to the UVA Hospital.
- 4/5
Everyone was friendly.
- 5/5
The staff was super helpful and friendly! Parking in the garage was very convenient, with direct access to the exact floor of our room. Walking distance to the University.
- 5/5
great mattresses
- 3/5
I was scheduled for room service every 3 days because I had a longer stay. They came at 2 days and never came back. I was short on coffee cups which meant I couldn’t use the in room coffee, and I ran out towels. Perhaps their short staffed and they need more cleaning staff? Staff at the front desk were also very nice but were always alone so lines seemed to build up at the desk.
- 3/5
Cons: bed was not very comfortable, bathroom was not super clean, and a/c was a bit loud.
- 5/5
Excellent stay overall. Very comfortable and clean hotel. The service is great! April was fantastic, and the shuttle service is excellent. José was the best driver (only first day at the job and already doing an outstanding worked). Used both the restaurant and fitness center and they were all very good. Very convenient to both the train station and the aiport.
