On site breakfast was great although more chocolate chip muffins would be amazing! They have bike rentals, although we didn't get a chance to use them, we plan to next time!
- 2/5
No microwave in the room or on site, nither is a refrigerator. Rooms are small, there was a crack in the TV. Internet was slow and had security problems. I had to fix toilet myself. We were suppose to stay two nights but checked out after one. Price for this great hotel? 250 dollars a night.
- 5/5
I decided to go out on a limb and book a room here and I am sure glad I did! The staff is amazing and accommodated my request for a pool view. The room was fun and beds comfy. Come evening time we made smores at the firepit next to the pool. One of the coolest parts of the stay was getting to see the cutest trash panda ever! This little raccoon was the hippest guy on the block!
- 3.5/5
Retro was cool Noise level near the pool. Rude guests letting kids scream at the top of their lungs for hours.
- 4/5
I got the king suite with the view of the marsh. It was nice. The room was very nice, although it had no microwave. The air conditioning was in the room with the king bed, and I barely felt it in the room with the couch. The shower was phenomenal. Loved it. Their front desk clerk was very nice and polite and very patient.
- 5/5
Close to the highway and light rail which make getting around easy. Nice walking area next to the water. Good coffee from the shop if you don’t want the hotel coffee. Typical free breakfast stuff available but the coffee shop has other decent options for purchase.
- 4/5
The hotel was a good stay for the price. The room was clean and ready for us for check-in and again for room service. All staff were nice and helpful. The free breakfast is limited to few items but it was appreciated. We got to enjoy a movie playing at the pool section, which was an added perk! If you are looking for a more “homey” feeling, this may not be the ideal place. The bathroom gave more of a gas station feeling with zero counter space to get ready. A couple downsides would be no microwave in the room (the one in lobby is limited to purchased items in their cafe), subtle funky smell in the room due to AC, no smart tv but they did have direct tv cable. Overall, it’s a good place to stay if you don’t care about the extra stuff.
- 5/5
Stayed here for a week, it was the perfect location! We felt safe walking to the trolley, which we used often. The staff here were amazing! Rooms were clean and bed was comfy. I was a bit disappointed in the grab and go breakfast and not having a coffee maker in the room, but other than that this is a fantastic hotel!

I have stayed at this place at least about 4-6 times a year. It’s always been clean and quiet and the staff are always friendly and welcoming. This time I had somewhat a negative experience. When I came back to my room after being out all day, I saw a roach in the bathroom which I disposed and flushed it in the toilet. I was also awakened early in the morning cause a roach crawled on to the bed. I reported it to the staff when I checked out who was working that morning and said that they will take care of it ASAP. I’m writing this review cause I don’t want this to happen to other customers. Also, I just found out that not all the rooms have a mini fridge inside, I was always staying in rooms in front of the office and was told that those were the only ones with mini fridge. It would be nice if they put in all the rooms. I will go back to this place again cause I know they will take care of the problem.
- 4/5
Nice place, although a bit rundown and a little diryy
- 5/5
I really liked the vibes here. The decor, the arcade and staff were great. Our room was very clean and comfy. Everything looked updated. I liked the little continental breakfast. I would definitely stay here again.
- 3/5
This place did not really feel like a hotel and was more like a motel. If I had known that beforehand, I probably would not have booked it. Other than that, my stay was okay. The front desk staff was friendly and treated me well.
- 5/5
The bed was extremely comfortable. Staff were friendly. Premises were clean.
- 4/5
Very pleased with the stay. Check in was easy. Very pleasant staff. Clean room. Continental. Breakfast that included coffee. I carry my own and the worked gave me 2 cups of hot water. Only gave 4 stars because conditioner in shower empty and bed is memory foam. I don’t like those. Terrible on my back but that’s just a personal preference. Definitely recommend.
- 3/5
Our stay was good. It's basically an upgraded motel. Property is clean & well maintained. The area is quiet. The only issue we had was the bathroom was VERY small. The water pressure from the shower was good but tons of water would end up outside the tub & the floor would end up with a huge puddle. The shower curtain did bothing to keep the water in. The pool area was super nice & so was the lobby.

This was the cutest road side revamped motel! They had such a cute little theme going on. Everything was clean, well maintained, and super cute.
- 4/5
Just needs a better breakfast. And the "E" street trolly crossing may wake you up every morning

I love what they did with this place - it's like a boutique motel. A lot of nice touches

The Rambler is a visual delight. Standard motel-type amenities, but retro theming and vivid colors make each room cheerful/vibrant and that makes all the difference. It was a King+ so we got a fridge, which was cute, large, and robust. The motel/room was clean and well-maintained, though the area is a bit run-down. It's was Mom's birthday, she loved it as expected! I brought her a cute notebook to go with the adorable Rambler pens that come in the rooms. (Tilt it and a car "drives" down!) So finding a plain Bic was a bummer. The front desk- who had a big jar of them available for sale- said they must have "run out" of complimentary ones. The biggest issue: I chose to extend my stay by one day after Mom's flight home, so we could keep our stuff there all that day and leisurely pack. They extended it, all is good. Then we left for lunch out at 2:30- precisely timed for Mom's special diet- and see a new posted note "Planned power outage- no light, wi-fi, or A/C 10 pm-6 am". They were surprised too when they found out that weekend -but that'd been *days* ago, yet they didn't say a thing when I extended! I said obviously I wanted to cancel, but they'd charge a half night if I wasn't out by 3. I talked them into 4 p.m. since we HAD to eat first, but it was such a scramble and unfortunate rush to end a fun trip.

not from here so really good for cheap, do have a deposit
- 5/5
Cool vibe in an easy spot to get on and off the highway.
- 5/5
Cool little retro motel w/ great amenities.
- 4.5/5
Great value and cute vibe. Nice and quiet with clean rooms. Breakfast was a bit lighter than we would like. Room was a bit small, but for the price not surprising.
- 1.5/5
breakfast service terrible, got there at 7:30 on a weekday and still no service, Also the train rans all night long and you can hear it.

Next night we turned on the ac. It’s smelled bad, like urine. They changed it out asap. Reassured me it wasn’t urine. We had headaches and sore throat that am. I was there 5 nights total. This is my 4th or 5th stay at this property. No complaints ever before. They did give me 50%off the first night (51.00 dollars of a tab of 818.00) because I asked. I love the barista there. She makes the best coffees. Unfortunately, the room still didn’t smell the freshest. It just seems a little dingier since when I first started coming. We played janga and connect 4 by the pool. Staff is super nice. It was just wasn’t our best experience I guess.
- 5/5
Very good
- 5/5
Second time staying at the Rambler and we love this place. Highly recommend.
- 3/5
The rooms are clean but they are small. There is also no fridge or microwave in the rooms. There is lots of parking no matter what time it is. For breakfast they don’t have many options and run out of food very early. Even though they told us breakfast ended at 10am by 9am there was no more coffee, juice, milk, waffles, or fruit. The only thing left was toast and muffins. We notified the staff and the breakfast area was not refilled because the staff was focusing only on the people that were paying for the other breakfast items.
- 4/5
Rooms are redone with a great 70s vibe. Amenities such as pool, fire pit, arcade, giant jenga and Connect4 are super fun. The included breakfast is lack luster. Bathroom and rooms are in the smaller size but clean and comfortable.
- 4/5
Parking was easy and near our room
- 5/5
We enjoyed our 2 day saty at the Rambler Hotel. The room was large and clean with great design. The arcade and pool were enjoyed by my son and mom too. I will definitely be back again when traveling in La Chula.
- 5/5
Wonderful vibe, cannot wait to return
- 3/5
Really really loud at night. Absolutely need sleeping pill plus earplugs.
- 4/5
Our only recomendation for this would be to atleast add a microwave and a small refrigerator.
- 5/5
Super clean, friendly staff, good coffee, and awesome vibe!

Great hotel close to the bay and short drives to popular locations. The hotel was clean, staff were helpful, lots of amenities and the bed was very comfortable. This will be my go-to hotel on my future San Diego visits
- 4/5

- 5/5
Close proximity to things such as the zoo and midway museum (roughly 20 minutes) without being in the busier downtown area. Good value for a standard motel room. Overall satisfied with our experience.
- 4/5
The Rambler is a nice affordable place to stay. It has a hip vibe and each room has their own design and style. The lobby and lounge area has old school video games, comfy seating and also a cafe where you can get food, coffee, and snacks. The room I stayed was nice, clean overall. I wish it had a fridge to keep my food fresh. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Very small rooms and bathroom was so small you had to get in shower to close door

Provided breakfast is minimal but the cafe on site is nice

We stayed at this hotel. It is right off of a highway and a train track, you get no sleep. All you hear is the highway and the train going by at all hours of the night. The hotel asked me if I was having a good stay.I told them no.And I told them about the problem, and they didn't even answer me back until after I checked out. Then, they wrote me back and said, sorry! Yeah, i'm sorry I spent my money there.Go somewhere else!
- 5/5

- 5/5
I appreciate the 'grab and go' coffee shop.
- 5/5
I like the color schemes the rooms were painted. The location was beautiful. The pool was clean the staff was helpful. It was quiet, peaceful, I would stay there again.
- 4/5
Rooms were clean. Easily accessible. Not many breakfast options. Coffee was not filled always. It was available only when the attached restaurant was open. The room keys were messing up on their own as they were not unlocking and had to go to the front office to get new keys.
- 4/5
I paid for the “upgraded” pool view room and was across the parking lot I could see the gate to the pool. So don’t feel like the extra money for the “upgrade” was necessary.
- 4/5
Any time I visit San Diego this is my stay location. I really like the cool summer vibe of the building and the rooms. The staff as always are very friendly and welcoming. Love this place. Thank you
- 4/5
The free breakfast was very basic.
- 5/5
The hotel over was great, staff was amazing the rooms are clean, the beds are extremely firm. The area over all is clean and quiet. Would stay again.
- 5/5
Breakfast was pretty modest and standard. Room was clean and air conditioned, it seems to be renovated from an old motel, but great touches all around with board games you can borrow from the front desk
- 3/5
Clean room nice staff Amenities however are not good at all
- 1/5
We will never stay there again!!! No where on there page stated no dogs we arrived and saw dog stations then 2 days later ask to leave I’m handicap my dog is blind and not well
- 5/5
The room was very clean and had a cute, eclectic, hippy-inspired vibe. Wi-Fi was easy to access, though it was occasionally inconsistent—possibly due to our room being located toward the back. The environment was peaceful and quiet, and the staff provided excellent service throughout our stay.
- 3/5
This is basically a redecorated motel 6. Not a bad stay, but way overpriced. Dirty grout in the shower, outdated room, no iron/ironing board, no smart tv. Again, it’s not horrible and if it marketed itself as a budget motel, then that would be fine. But it’s so far from the main part of the city and we paid more than $200 a night.
- 5/5
The staff were very friendly and in great moods, I had dinner at Sammies next door it was very convenient, the water pressure was AMAZING in the shower. The property is a very "walk back into a clean late 60/70s vibe" parking was easy, the air conditioning was crisp.

Cons: No fridge in room. Room had an awful smell randomly in the evenings (like a sewage smell). Breakfast is just muffins, yogurt, bread and coffee.
- 5/5
I chose this hotel because it advertised as no smoking, no pets and free parking. Plus, they have free bike rentals. They accommodated my request to not clean my room using harsh chemicals. I was so pleased they could do that! I didn't have any allergies while staying there and that's a miracle. Everyone was very nice and I appreciated the text communication from them. Very welcoming and loved their coffee shop. I would stay here again!

The Rambler was pretty much exactly what it says it is: a retro themed motel that is inexpensive and sufficient. We play hard on vacation, so we were only at our room to sleep. The location is convenient to Interstate 5 and just a few minutes south of San Diego. We had a couple of good local meals, but we brought out own breakfast food as The Rambler only offers a café that was more expensive than the stop at Costco. Parking near your room was a bit tight, but there was plenty of parking on the backside of the motel. The rooms are small, but a full size dresser was great. It was less than 20 minutes to any of the main activities (Other than the Safari Park).
- 4/5
The hotel is great but the rooms need mini fridge.

Clean room, comfortable bed, convenient grab and go breakfast, delicious coffee, fun decorations and atmosphere. Great time!
- 5/5
Love it so simple
- 5/5
Yes very safe
- 3/5
Breakfast was not a real thing. There was truly only instant oatmeal with no mix in options. Nothing that typical little kids would want. Cereal cups were $4. We had to cut out early and spend $40 on breakfast at Panera instead of enjoying pool time, which really disappointed the kids. Hotel itself is cute and the ability to borrow board games was fun. Room was clean and staff friendly. It was okay for a night but would not have worked for a longer vacation stay with kids. I usually do Best Western or Hilton but wanted to try something new. Lesson learned.
- 3/5
Carpet felt dirty and the free breakfast barely could count as a breakfast. Otherwise it was fine - I liked the decor a lot.
- 5/5
Everything exceeded my expectations. Really comfy beds. Would def stay here again if I’m in the area.
- 5/5
I never considered myself drawn to groovy vibes, but, there I was, having a blast! Suite was fun, roomy, and decorated well, with a great view of the bay. What's not to love?

I loved every aspect of the experience with this amazing hotel. The location, the staff was very friendly, Housekeeping, parking facilities, creativity when it comes to the Rooms decoration. Everything made me feel at home. Grateful for this amazing property.

They have a little cafe, parking is good, pretty decent area. Cute pool area.
- 5/5
Clean room, Comfortable bed, and Excellent staff. We will definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
Location was very convenient, with access to the trolley and highways. The room was clean, bed and pillows very comfy! WiFi was glitchy at times, didn't always have service. Entrance gate at rear closes fairly early, just an inconvenience having to turn around in the casino. Our only major complaint was the grab and go breakfast. We were there 5 mornings, and never once was everything stocked. Most times the few items available were gone to where you had a choice of white bread and a banana. Coffee was iffy, most days it was empty. Almost felt like they wanted you to purchase from the coffee shop so they kept the free items to a minimum.

Overall, great stay for the price. We opted for 1st floor but probably should’ve asked for 2nd floor. We heard every conversation/person who walked by as if we were right there. The room was clean, staff friendly, nearby Mexican place that had a good breakfast torta. There were poolside games, which I thought was neat. Giant connect 4 and corn hole. I enjoyed the expedited check out and easy check in. I wouldn’t mind coming back for a future trip.
- 5/5
Nice and great for the value! Excellent staff
- 5/5
Every staff member we interacted with was very friendly. The rooms are what you typically expect for the price point. We definitely prefer staying here than a Motel 6 or similar.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
Great for a quick weekend stay.
- 3/5
Free breakfast sparse. Unfriendly staff beds and pillow great. Ok for the money I guess
- 5/5

Beds are amazingly and great shower pressure
- 5/5
I really liked Chula Vista, it’s very clean and convenient city. Parks with bay/ocean view, grocery, and Costco are located nearby this stay..Also I-5 is very close which made us easy to go to Outlet Mall and downtown San Diego. I enjoyed the zoo, watching sunset at Sunset Cliff + Mission Beach and the best part of this trip- Loma Point’s Low Tide Pool hike!!! I definitely recommend this place for whoever visiting San Diego.
- 5/5
However, there were many amenities that I think of as fairly standard that they didn't have. They were unimportant to us, but might be a bigger deal to other travelers. There is no spa/hot tub, just a really chilly pool No fridge, microwave, coffee maker, iron in the room Continental breakfast was amusingly lacking Only about half of their game room was functional Again, we loved our stay and would stay again, but if any of the above are important for your stay, then it might not be a great fit for you.
- 4/5
Normal room room for the price. Breakfast was something to forget.

Your site has it as a hotel when it is really a Motel with a hip vibe still very basic.

Didn’t have Kleenex’s for a day but otherwise great, we have water pressure that I have never felt before. Food was not half off. Breakfast was okay for 2-5 day stay but not longer than that. No cereal. Nice fire pit and pool. Rode the bikes once but cannot after sundown typically.
- 4/5
Convenient location just off the highway. Within walking distance to restaurants and a nice public park with a playground. The ventilation in the rooms could be improved. We often cracked the door open for fresh air.
- 4/5
Room was clean, staff friendly.
- 4/5
Staff responded to our every need in an expeditious manner. Unique little hotel with decent parking space

The staff were great and the room was nice. Great retro decor
- 2/5
I was disappointed with how the room was described on hotels.com website vs. the reality of it.
- 5/5
Great stay-comfortable room and bed, spacious; staff is always helpful and friendly; cafe has a good breakfast and lunch selection.
- 3/5
The area where the motel is locates is too noisy, trains, traffic. It looks good on the pictures but is not that nice. Breakfast is toast, yougurt, oatmeal, muffins.
- 5/5
Motel was clean and staff were friendly. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

Been here 4 times now. It's always great, and this time it was even better because they have fridges now! The pillows are the best here, clean beds, excellent water pressure in the shower, and it feels safe. It's really hard to check all of those boxes for the price they charge.
- 5/5
The room and grounds were very nice. The staff were delightful. Romm was clean and comfortable. Floor could be cleaner, but was not bad.

Second, we probably spent a total of 2 hours in that room from the time we checked in to check out! My daughter and I started sneezing as soon as we walked in to the room. Couldn’t figure out why. We left the room to go by allergy medication and stayed out as long as we could. As soon as we came back to the room, started sneezing again and my daughter’s eyes and her face turned red. My nose and throat were so itchy- we decided to leave and checked out around midnight. Horrible experience. And you should update on your website that this is a MOTEL and not a hotel
- 4/5
Great, friendly staff, clean room and property! Only issues are cel phones don't get signal.in rooms and wifi wouldn't work. We loved everything else.
- 5/5
Room was great!!

Room was clean. Service was good. The breakfast was simple but satisfying. There was no microwave in the room. Would stay there again.
- 5/5
Staff was great and they have nice selection of drinks (including beers)! Sometime you just want a drink of beer.
- 3/5
Staff was courteous and room was clean, but smaller than I expected. No fridge in room and breakfast was "mehh.." No fresh eggs or sausage. They had toast with PB&J, bananas and apples. Packets of oatmeal and yogurt. Also had cereal, but by 9am all that was left was granola cereal. I appreciate a good breakfast and is probably only reason why I will not stay there again. If you don't care about a breakfast it was good stay for the price. Beds are comfy!
- 4/5
Room spotless. Large tub. Lots of hot water. Great shower head.
- 5/5
This was our second stay at the Rambler. Friendly staff, very clean facility, quiet and such a comfortable place to stay whether it’s overnight or longer. Very close to the highway, eateries, and the trolley station. Definitely will stay here again on our next visit to San Diego.

This place is okay for a staycation in which I would’ve given 5 stars for it. However, I didn’t get my deposit back due to a hair dye stain on the hotel towel and the stain in the tub which was beyond my control have I known that it was going to cause that big of a problem. Shame on me right for having self-care day and unintentionally damaging the towels, which I could’ve taken myself to hide, so I won’t get in trouble, but I don’t steal and I’m not that kind of a guest. I was honest and left a note inside my hotel apologizing as I realized what happened. What the property also should’ve told the guests is that their toilets are sensitive and it can clog and backup even with the slightest use of toilet paper, causing your toilet to flood inside your hotel room. For future guests staying, 1) don’t dye your hair and sleep here, or at least bring your own towels if you need too, and 2) be very mindful of their very sensitive toilets that could overflow inside your hotel room.

The bad - no iron/ironing board, no safe, light on hotel desk was out as was the entire plug. Lack of dining options nearby.
- 5/5
Great Customer Service Rooms Are Nice Always Enjoy Staying There
- 5/5
Great 👍

- 5/5
Clean room , great location, friendly staff & great coffee shop
- 5/5
Hotel and room are always clean, inviting, and comfortable. The staff is always helpful and friendly plus the area and hotel property are convenient, well-lit, and safe. The cafe has a good breakfast and lunch menu plus coffee at reasonable prices.
- 5/5
Parking was easy and safe. Did not try the breakfas. Room was clean and comfortable.

This was the second time staying again at the rambler and i must say i would stay here time and time again. We love how fhe room has a different style each time feels like your staying at a different place. Even though there was a water issue it didnt stop the stay from being terrible cause, it was fixed right away.

Smelled bad
- 5/5
Nicely remodeled rooms
- 5/5
Its been great using the service.
- 5/5
The staff was good and the washer and dryer worked very well
- 5/5
This place is cleaner and nicer than some of the five-star hotels. Plenty of parking, quiet, and cozy. The staff are very kind and helpful, and the property is very well maintained. The nearest attraction is Gaylord Pacific Resort, which is only a mile away. I highly recommend this place to all travelers.
- 5/5
Rooms were spotless, staff was courteous!
- 4/5

- 5/5
The front desk is very kind and the coffee is the best!

- 5/5
the overall design of the hotel is so fun! rooms were exceptionally clean. the cafe was a bonus!
- 3/5
Everything was good just my room AC was a bit noisy. Good place and lot to see around
- 5/5
I've always been a fan of small motels and hotels and this was exactly what I was looking for. Easy to get around in a good location. The staff was awesome and having a coffee shop and a restaurant at the hotel was perfect. You gotta go check this out.
- 5/5
Nice staff, good location
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
Most likely will return here for future stays
- 4/5
Clean room, friendly staff. No fridge in room (they say they're coming soon). Nice atmosphere.
- 4/5
Clean room but smelled bad. Staff was great.
- 4/5
We have eaten at the cafe there and the food is good but today we went for breakfast but there was only one person working. Other tables were waiting for their order and other guests left. We did as well. I think people should get their coffee first so they have something then their breakfast can get to the table later. Maybe not the most ideal suggestion but staffing was a problem. There were 2 people at the desk but only one person in the cafe. It’s too bad that the guest discount will be discontinued January 1, 2026. We may come back to stay but eat elsewhere.
- 5/5
The room was what we expected. Staff was PHENOMENAL and what made the trip worth it. They were very helpful and ready to assist with any needs. Unfortunately, the pool was being serviced during the time here, but Kimberly was a problem solver and gave us options on where to go. I thought the lobby was really cool and retro with arcade games. Coffee was great as well. I would definitely recommend the stay.
- 5/5
Room was spotless, cafe was great, parking was easy. Wanted to stay non "big chain" for a night & glad we did. Had a suite, very spacious - only downside, no microwave in a big kitchenette.
- 3/5
It was clean
- 4/5
Great customer service, clean room, great comfortable bed. Excellent thank you.
- 5/5
that was a great experience
- 5/5

- 4/5
Rooms were clean
- 5/5
Perfect!!
- 5/5
Clean, modern, cool, quiet.
- 4/5
The service was great. Close to the water, highway, stores, TJ border. Free parkings a plus. The room was clean, the first room the AC wasn't working so they moved us promptly and appreciated the service. Liked the firepit & pool area.
- 5/5
Nice spot
- 3/5
Nope …room have no fridge
- 4/5
This was our second time staying at the Rambler, it was clean inside, and comfortable, the wall art and colors were fun to see as well. Staff was very friendly during check in and checkout. Only issue the walls are super thin and motel guests have no volume control at 3:45 am. Hard to sleep with the noise. Also I think the cafe is understaffed, we were waiting to order food and coffee and no one came out to greet us or take our oder. We figured the cashier was also the cook as a couple of people sitting down had food and coffee. And a couple in front of us was waiting to order. We waited aa good while and left. We really wanted to stay there and eat, but maybe next time. Overall the motel is very nice for people on a budget, and we'll definitely stay there again.
- 5/5
This motel was so comfy and clean with the most attentive staff ever. We had a wonderful stay.
- 5/5
Nice rooms, nice staff
- 5/5
We didn't have any breakfast, but there was plenty of parking.
- 5/5
It was fine
- 5/5
Clean room, friendly staff
- 5/5
Great all good
- 5/5
Thank you.
- 5/5
Great environment. Great staff. Rooms had everything we needed. We will stay here again next time we're in SD.
- 4/5
Older property that has been re energized with new look. Very friendly staff, nice pool and clean rooms.
- 5/5
I really enjoyed my stay at this cute motel. The room was clean, staff was polite and helpful, and I loved the cafe. The coffee was excellent and there were good food choices. I just wish it would stay open later. The cafe does have snacks and drinks that don’t require preparation and can be purchased at the front desk. I would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Adorable! The staff is nice, the rooms were clean, and it has a great shower!
- 5/5
My family had a great experience! The rooms were adorable and so clean. The staff was friendly from the moment I checked in. Next time we are in the San Diego area, we will be back!
- 5/5
Was super convenient when it came to getting around with the trolley and buses nearby. The decor was so cute. Room comfy and had a great stay.
- 5/5
Clean rooms, nice staff
- 5/5
I love staying at the rambler when I drive down to SD. It’s super nice and clean and everyone is so friendly.
- 5/5
Super very clean and no odor Bed very comfortable Highly recommended
- 5/5
Couple of options for the paid breakfast. Staff was super friendly.
- 5/5
The shower pressure was outstanding
- 5/5
Nice clean room and great staff. Easy freeway access. One of the best low cost motels I have stayed at.
- 1/5
We nearly called the police to shut down a loud party—people were banging on the walls and yelling as well as smoking outside our window until 6 a.m. Despite multiple complaints, the front desk did nothing. They later claimed the attendant was “on break,” which didn’t make sense since we called at least six times over three hours (2am to 5am) from both the room phone and our cell phones. All in all, the place looks nothing like the photos. There’s no microwave or mini-fridge, and it feels more like a slightly renovated Motel 6. The biggest disappointment, though, was the staff. Best of luck to anyone who stays at The Rambler, you’ll probably regret it. We will not be back.
- 5/5
It was very clean! The shower was clean and good pressure.. it was very simple, and clean!
- 5/5
Rambler was cute and comfortable, clean rooms, free parking. Theres an onsite coffee shop and restaurant and you get a discount for being a guest.
- 4/5
We were only there for one night. The cafe was closing when we arrived. Ended up with Domino’s delivery. Unfortunately no coffee set up in the room so had to walk to the cafe for a cuppa. The bed was comfortable and the room was fine. Parking was available which is important in San Diego. I would go again but maybe not my first choice
- 5/5
Pleasant staff
- 5/5
The staff at The Rambler was amazing, they were friendly and helpful. The cafe within the motel was awesome. The food we ordered was amazing, my wife couldn't get enough of their Dirty Horchata drink, she fell in with it. I myself loved the bagel sandwich they prepared, it was really good. The motel also had bikes you can ride to the marina, that was really fun. They also had a selection of classic arcade games which for me was super awesome. The pool was fine till 9. My wife and daughter did some s'mores, and we played with the outdoor games they had. Overall our experience at the motel was great. Will definitely return for a longer stay and I would recommended it to everyone I know.
- 5/5
I enjoyed my stay at the hotel, very nice, clean and good price within my budget. Would stay again !
- 5/5
Bed was a bit soft for me but that’s ok
- 5/5
I really liked staying at the Rambler and I’d stay there again. I absolutely loved the cafe. I wish it stayed open later. My room was very clean and smelled clean even with carpet. The staff was the friendliest. I definitely recommend the Rambler.
- 4/5
Friendly staff and easy parking
- 3/5
👍👍👍👍
- 5/5
What a charming motel for a weekend escape, great staff service and wonderful amenities on site, including gaming entertainment and food/beverages. Highly recommended!
- 5/5
Absolutely loved my stay. The room was clean and well maintained. The staff was very friendly. The restaurant was great and convenient. It all had a fun vibe. It would be nice if the fire pit (not necessarily the pool) was open later in the evening with possibly a low level or no music and quiet time rules.
- 5/5
The room was very clean and the beds were the most comfortable beds we have ever had at a hotel. The pool was well kept and had a bunch of games around you could play such as Jenga Connect 4, and Cornhole. The laundry room was clean and cost $2 for the washer and $2 for the dryer. The front desk staff was very kind and all staff we came across were nothing but fantastic. They do have a little cafe and arcade but we didn't take advantage of it. Was a great location for food and was about 10 min away from the San Diego zoo. Highly recommended this hotel and will definitely stay here again
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
The beds were super comfty. Staff was good. Great location just off the freeway. It’s like a motel with a cool beach twist.
- 5/5
Best place I’ve ever stayed in SoCal
- 5/5
Wonderful little place. So neat and funky. Clean facilities and nice staff. They have bikes you can use to go for a ride by the ocean. Would definitely stay again. Close to many restaurants and shopping.
- 5/5
Awesome
- 5/5
The check in process was so easy. Parking was no problem. And then we saw our room. It was perfect. Super clean. Completely remodeled and upgraded. The hotel was super close to some great restaurants and activities. We played pool at the local bar. The cafe the next morning was amazing, quick and efficient, and my drink was so good. We will absolutely be back for a longer stay so we can utilize the pool and fire pit and beach cruisers.
- 3/5
I booked this stay solely based off of the reviews. I do not understand how it is rated 9.2 stars? The lobby and cafe area are pristine for sure. The room has a terrible smell when walking into it which makes you automatically think its dirty. The rooms are like a Motel 6, everything just has just been repainted and cute little sayings and artwork has been updated. Furniture, showers and everything are just as old as the original property. Noisy as well from being right off the highway but I expected that. No way in hell is this place worth almost $200 a night.
- 5/5
This motel was amazing and so clean thank you so much! Will be coming back!
- 5/5
The staff was incrediably kind, efficient. The room was comfortable clean quiet.will sray there again.
- 5/5
The bed was comfy, the showerhead was nice, and the room was clean. Great motel experience.
- 5/5
Clean
- 5/5
Clean room and friendly staff
- 4/5
Friendly staff, nice cafe with good food and coffee. We saw 2 bugs in our room but found it to be mostly clean. Comfortable beds and free parking. The pool is nice and they have a fireplace going at night. The price is its primary selling point and I would probably stay here again for a short stay.
- 5/5
CLEAN ROOM GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE
- 5/5
Clean
- 5/5
We enjoyed our stay. The beach cruisers were a joy and everyone was very nice and hospitable.
- 5/5
I’m obsessed with how cute this place is. Definitely coming back with my family next time!
- 5/5
Good!
- 4/5
No fridge or iron in room and floors were very dirty, otherwise this is a really nice place to stay
- 5/5
Staff was amazing, room was clean and the area is both quiet and accessible to the rest of the city. Would absolutely stay again!
- 5/5
The room was clean and check in was easy.
- 5/5
Staff are really nice and the rooms are very clean and with great themed decor! I’ve stayed here probably 4 times now, and I always enjoy my stay when I do. I also like that they have the snack shack adjacent to the cafe - very convenient when you just want a quick snack. Great property that’s safe and remodeled. The only down sides are that there is no fridge or microwave in the room.
- 5/5
Clean room. Location sits by a trolley station & right next to a casino/restaurant. The marina is a 5 minute drive away. Nice hidden gem I think!
- 5/5
We love the bathroom. The shower water pressure is perfect.
- 4/5
The staff was amazing.
- 5/5
Our room was fun, unique and the hotel was very accessable from the freeway Felt as if we were far away from the city and overlooking the reserve area was a great detachment.. The checkin area staff were friendly and helpful. Loved oir crafted beverages at the cafe. Uniqie de or made it a fun getaway with style. The carpet in our room was less desirable felt wet in areas? Maybe had just been cleaned? Overall our room was excellent clean bedding & linens , the shower head was awesome! All the effort in the character designwas greatly appreciated. Would like to stay here again and bring some froends to roast smores with and swim in the pool too. Looked like a great time.
- 5/5
So nice and clean. The Cafe was awesome!
- 5/5
Great Affordable, Hotel en San Diego, Diego
- 5/5
Glad i found this place. The most comfortable hotel bed i have ever slept in. Can't wait to go back!!
- 3/5
I did like that it's a good area to get to places...I didn't like it didn't have a microwave in the lobby area...we wanted to warm our food up that we had from the restaurant and couldn't...
- 5/5
Love it I’ll be booking soon again
- 5/5
This is our second time staying here and will stay again!
- 5/5
We enjoyed our stay! The staff was so welcoming when we checked in, our room was clean and cozy! The cafe and arcade was a nice addition as well, this motel isn’t like others, it’s nice and chic! We definitely will be coming back for another weekend getaway trip.
- 5/5
The vibe is exactly as advertised!
- 3/5
Clean but bare bones rooms. Have to use their cafe if you want coffee onsite but it is a nice one. Staff required to enforce overly-restrictive corporate policies for such a basic motel.
- 5/5
Everything was excellent
- 5/5
Our room was clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. I loved the "classic" vibe of the hotel. I played pin-ball for the first time in decades :). Also loved that food was available for purchase. Great experience. Highly recommend the Rambler.
- 5/5
Short drive to mission beach, and the marina. Bikes are available and you are very close to a great biking/walking path, they even provide the helmet and lock. Staff was super friendly.
- 5/5
Nice motel with a very cool café and Arcade inside. The coffee is super bomb !
- 5/5
Everything was fantastic
- 5/5
Good choice
- 5/5
I don’t usually stay at Motels but this one exceeded my expectations. The beds are super comfortable!
- 3/5
Surprisingly quiet, wasn't a huge fan of the room we had as windows didn't open and that made it less than fresh, but for the price it was fine.
- 5/5
I really enjoyed my stay, the room was clean and the staff was very friendly. The bed was so comfortable. It was amazing. I will definitely stay here again. They play movies pool side every Saturday. Stay here you won’t be disappointed.
- 5/5
good property
- 5/5
The reviews I read about this property were spot on. The retro design is done so well. It was clean, comfortable and the rooms were well maintained. The staff was very friendly and helpful - special shout out to Elijah and Kim. The breakfast sandwich was great, and the coffee was excellent.
- 5/5
The theme.
- 5/5
Staff was very accommodating.
- 3/5
The AC was off when we arrived, so our room was hot and everything felt sticky. Our shower had a bug and a few hairs in it. It's a decent place, but a motel nonetheless.
- 4/5
First of all the staff is very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. We Loved the room, and family oriented environment. The cafe is also good, and super convenient; especially with their craft coffee options which my wife and I loved!
- 5/5
I especially love the on-site coffee shop at The Rambler - the food is so fresh and tasty, and I adore the mazapan lattes! X
- 4/5
Fun decoration and atmosphere, helpful staff. Unfortunately the mattress did not get along with my back -- way too soft.
- 5/5
And the towels were the softest I have ever used at a Motel. We will definitely stay here when we come back.
- 5/5
Great property with excellent themes in the rooms. Location is great, coffee shop solid and pool was nice. Overall great experience only hiccup was the fact that they charged me for one night for every room in advance even though we had the reserve now pay at property option selected, had to pay the remainder once we arrived, made it complicated when reserving for multiple rooms, had to figure out the payment situation since we were a large group.
- 5/5
The beds are super comfy. The pool area has a cool vibe with games and a fire pit. The chairs are comfy, nice quality, well maintained. The cafe was adorable and super fun for kids and adults! The motel itself has no frills but has a great, relaxing vibe.
- 5/5
Room was great. Even though it’s next to the freeway, it was quiet.
- 3/5
The bed
- 5/5
Good
- 4/5
good
- 5/5
Convenient location
- 5/5
Family friendly. Friendly staff. Great service. The cafe has great options plus you get 30% off. It was a quick and easy check in and check out process.
- 5/5
This is a fun family hotel with quiet peacefulness
- 5/5
Good Coffee Shop!
- 5/5
Just an over night stay but the beds were comfortable, the room is simple but it was clean and cute, the staff was friendly and helpful. We borrowed the bikes and went on a bike ride before we checked out. There are nice bike paths and the ocean is a few minutes away. We just got drinks at the cafe but they were good the staff in the cafe was friendly. I would stay there again..
- 5/5
The staff and hotel were great. My boyfriend and I were very happy with our stay. We loved the pool and cafe. I didn't get to check it out, but I saw they had Saturday night movies by the pool.
- 4/5
I have stayed here multiple times already and it’s always clean. I would recommend having hand soap so I don’t have to go to the bathroom to use the body soap that is supplied while washing my hands.
- 2/5
The breakfast was good ( you pay extra for it)
- 5/5
Good property
- 5/5
Easy stay
- 4/5
I love the movie by the pool and their cafe! No issues with parking and easy check in/out process.
- 5/5
Property was in central location for what we needed. The staff were Super Friendly and made each morning a good start to the day.
- 5/5
Nice hotel not too far from many attractions
- 5/5
Good stay.
- 5/5
The Rambler Motel is super cute with comfortable beds and great showers. I love all the fun activities that are available, the cafe, the pool and the game room.
- 5/5
What a great retro motel. Very clean and family friendly.
- 5/5
Excellent 👍
- 5/5
Great little property for a great price. Only things to be aware of is there is no mini fridge or coffee maker in the room. Great little coffeeshop, but definitely worth noting.
- 4/5
We unfortunately had to call the front desk at 3 am due to extremely noisy people outside our room. The glass windows aren’t super noise proof. Thankfully the woman at the front desk got the people to leave. Not the hotels fault at all and thankfully we were able to change rooms for the next night as we had no idea if they were our neighbors or not. My only real complaint would be the rooms are warm. We ran the a/c all night and it did not cool the room enough. The second night our room was on the second floor and we had the same issue.
- 5/5
My family of 3 had a lovely stay at the Rambler. Staff were very welcoming and the property was in great condition. Would definitely stay here again!
- 5/5
Great stay
- 5/5
This hotel was amazing, they put a lot of effort into making this more than just a roadside motel, the lobby is beautiful and the cafes food is amazing
- 5/5
Great location and very nice facilities!
- 5/5
I had an incredible stay here. Prices were the best I found and the experience was excellent. The parking is free and at night they gate up one side of it which felt really safe and secure. I would definitely come back!
- 4/5
Everything good the only issue was the TV service didn’t work
- 5/5
The property is clean. Parking is easy. Restaurant, video games and movies play while in the pool. Highly recommended.
- 1/5
No cleaning, no return my deposit
- 5/5
The rambler is a cute family oriented motel. The staff was always nice and helpful. The pool and cafe were also really good and the discount at the café was also really nice perk.
- 5/5
Very well-maintained motel. Unique colored room. Clean and comfortable also quiet also very affordable family trip. They have a coffee shop that provides a good breakfast. The staff are so friendly. Close to downtown and SeaWorld. About 18mit. No complaint at all. It is a motel but surprisingly well organized.
- 5/5
Good place
- 5/5
Loved this stylish little motel. Very clean. Comfortable beds, friendly staff, cute cafe and pool area. Highly recommend!
- 5/5
This stay was really great really love this motel I dont have any complaints would it lacks and amenities that makes up for a thousand fold for location and atmosphere.
- 5/5
Very quaint rooms and good service. There isn’t much to do in the immediate surrounding area but you are a 10 minute drive to downtown SD. Reasonably priced and safe!
- 5/5
I was skeptical about my stay because it was a motel. But I went for it because of the overall reviews but the owner you can tell that the owners really care about the place and is very cute retro 70 vibe. I love that they had movies by the pool for the summer for the kids, but it was above and beyond excellent experience. The staff was very friendly love that this motel has bikes that are included in the hotel stay for the guest love that it was walking distance from the water and close enough to SeaWorld little Italy and other eateries like downtown Chula Vista.
- 5/5
Retrovibe, good amenities, clean room, friendly staff, would definitely stay here again
- 4/5
Fun & funky!!
- 5/5
This is such a great find! The beds were so comfortable and the very best we’ve had in any hotel. It was so cute as well, I love the beach vibes and music references. They had a movie night at the pool when we got there for the families and check-in was fast and easy. We ate breakfast and got coffee there too, it was very good and we really enjoyed the coffee. All the staff were friendly and looked like they really like being there. We would stay here again.
- 4/5
This place is safe to stay and close to a lot of places to eat.
- 5/5
Great property
- 5/5
Love how they have a coffee shop and food spot and not to mention getting a nice discount when providing your room number! Would stay here again 10/10
- 4/5
I love staying here around my birthday. The rooms are always clean. The only downfall if you book a room near the pool while they're having the movie night by the pool it can be a little loud. The walls are a little thin or people are just a little extra loud.
- 4/5
Only feedback, Wi-fi service was spotty. Recommend a Mesh network to ensure strong data signals get across the entire building.
- 4/5
Hotel is is close to the blue line trolly. That takes you straight to downtown without driving. The size of the rooms are standard. The beds are very comfortable. They have memory foam beds. The shower pressure is just right…not too low or high in pressure. The rooms do not have coffee machines, fridge or microwaves. There’s a coffee shop in the lobby but they close early. The pool closes pretty early and there’s really no other amenities. Oh, and the plumbing isn’t the best. The shower drains slowly and toilets don’t always flush.
- 5/5
Great place
- 5/5
This is a great option for budget traveling that also feels really special and fun! My daughter and I did a little mom/daughter overnight here for some SD adventures and we loved it! We had the pool all to ourselves and we loved having the cafe to easily access. This is within a great distance to all that San Diego has to offer. I loved the retro vibe and everything was clean and felt safe :)
- 5/5
Cute fun easy
- 5/5
This motel is very cute, and clean. It is exactly as pictured!
- 5/5
Every Saturday they play movies and sell s'mores. The rooms are Bright and colorful.
- 4/5
Rented a double bed room for comic Con. Great location to stay at bc the mts runs and stops very close. The rooms were simple, clean and a good amount of room for two people. Parking at the motel was also very convenient since we arrived late. Loved going to the cafe in the morning and being able to see the coast from the outside eating area. Only reason I didn't give 4 stars was the tub in my room wouldn't fill. It was only really a shower.
- 5/5
Amazing clean lovely friendly hotel!! Our new hotel when we come visit San Diego.
- 5/5
It was great for being a Motel.
- 3/5
I enjoyed the bright colors of my room and fun graphics. The maid service was above average and I was pleased with the job they did. The carpet was dirty though. Neither the rooms nor the lobby have coffee. The hotel has a cafe but it doesn't open until 7am.
- 4/5
I rented an ada room, and the handicapped area in front of the room was not a handicapped spot accordingto the man at the desk, but was marked as a handicapped spot. If they rent the room as afa, the spot in frint of it should bereserved as well
- 3/5
Rate paid did not reflect the room facilities. Small cramped restroom with no exhaust ventilation and tight wash-up countertop. On second day, the AC unit started leaking condensation on to room carpet, near the door. Couldn’t enjoy lounging in socks or barefoot in room. TV channels available were really good.
- 5/5
This is a fun little space to just chill and find new adventures.
- 5/5
Excellent choice.
