Reviews
The Grand Lodge is a unique and quirky hotel with a rich history, offering a variety of amenities such as bars, restaurants, and a soaking pool. Guests generally enjoy their stay, praising the hotel's atmosphere, food, and drinks, but some express disappointment with the service and shared bathrooms.
- Unique and quirky atmosphere
- Variety of amenities (bars, restaurants, soaking pool)
- Inconsistent service quality
- Shared bathrooms

In Lodge "quiet calm" bars all close 3-4dys/wk. Outside Pub closed 2dys/wk. Spa closed 2dys/wk Theater closed 2dys/wk. (all on different days) No Amenities No "quiet time" so loud guests have no limits Lodge is very clean and staff all very friendly. It's all about the lodge history and the artwork.

Great room, great staff, and experience!
- 5/5
Beautiful property- exceptionally friendly staff. Loved my stay!
- 5/5
Loved the vibe. Loved the soaking pool. Loved the bars with amazing beers!
- 5/5
Everything was great. The only thing that kind of stunk was there was too many people in the soaking pool in the evening and the morning on the weekend. Better to go during the week if youd rather have
- 5/5
Really cool place to stay. It's not cramped but it is certainly cozy. There are a million things to explore and discover. We loved our room's unique décor and the view from our big bay windows. The soaking pool was fabulous. The spa books out FAST so we definitely should have planned ahead if we wanted a spot there.
- 5/5
Had so much fun with my 9yo!
- 5/5
Fun, unique, love the soaking pool.
- 5/5
Love this property!! Interesting, helpful, knowledgeable staff, great service and great food and drinks. The art is beyond fun and amazing. I love the stories about the people who lived here at one time. The soaking pool is a real treat!!!
- 4/5
A pet friendly property! Excellent customer service, staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Food is delicious.
- 5/5
The staff was great with information and answering questions. We were sorry Tuesdays seem to have several venues, closed , including the soaking pool, movie theater. The food and drinks were delicious.
- 5/5
Staff was courteous, professional and prompt. Dining was experience was excellent; great food and great service. Lodging was classic. Building was historic, eclectic and expansive. Variety of interesting art works. Room was spartan but comfortable. All in all would recommend.
- 5/5
Every room is unique and ours (Ulysses) was no exception. We loved all the quotes, faces, etc handpainted on the walls and pipes! The bed was comfortable and the bathroom spacious. We hope to return.
- 4/5
Friendly staff, beautiful lodge, very clean room, comfortable bed, excellent breakfast.
- 5/5
It was very interesting. I loved getting to explore and find all the secrets and see all the decorations and artwork.
- 5/5
A great hotel.
- 5/5
Beautiful property, exceptional decor
- 5/5
This is the coolist place ever! Probably not for everyone but we love it, very eclectic and unlike any place you have been.
- 1/5
Terrible place, no amenities for business travelers. No refrigerators, microwaves, or TV. Not a hotel for business travelers. This is a unique hotel for those wanting to explore local history but not for comfort, convenience and amenities for those traveling for business.
- 4/5
We got a king bed for a $ increase but more comfortable for us!
- 5/5
Nice soaking pool
- 4/5
Beautiful building and so much art!
- 4/5
It was a nice relaxing 30th Anniversary trip for us. We mostly brought our own food or ate elsewhere because prices were more expensive even for happy hour than we planned but other than that we enjoyed our stay.

I have never in my life stayed in such an awful place. It was louder than a stadium. People are hanging around in the halls, playing instruments in their rooms, and downstairs there is a band playing as loud as a stadium rock band. Then I showed up and there was no bathroom or shower in my room. I went downstairs and said, "I am leaving. I can't stay here." The woman said, "Ok," and then they didn't cancel the room, and I got a check out link the next day, and when I called, no one knew anything and refused to help me in anyway claiming I didn't talk to anyone when I talked to a man and a woman behind the desk. No one should ever come to this place ever. I paid all of this money and had to go to the Marriott that was heaven by comparison.
- 5/5
I love staying at all of the McMenamins properties!
- 5/5
I like the uniqueness and history of the property. It is so much fun to stay there.
- 5/5
Amazing little paradise hidden away 💕
- 5/5
Always a good stay with many options to dine and enjoy☆
- 4/5
I didn't realized that when I booked thr room it had no bathroom and I have to get up several times a night to go to the bathroom (not convenient) but the hotel and people were great. We only stayed one night. I have to say it was a very nice place.
- 3/5
I love the property, it's gorgeous. The service was not as awesome. We went out to the restaurant outside because the hotel website said they served pizza out there. We got out there, waited a long time to be seated, waited still for someone to take a drink order, and when we said we wanted to order pizza, they said they didn't serve it anymore and and hadn't taken it off the menu. This also happened while ordering drinks at another bar, out of ingredients and a cocktail on the menu that wasn't available any more
- 5/5
The front desk was so accommodating and kind, great place!
- 5/5
One of our favorite McMenamin locations. Historic building, great soaking pool and lots of funky places to grab a bite and a beverage. The grounds are very walkable.
- 5/5
Great hotel. Multiple bars to choose from even on a Monday evening. Highly recommend
- 5/5
Great joint with great stuff to do and see for all kinds of travelers!
- 4/5
First time visiting the Grand Lodge and staying at a McMenamins. We really enjoyed the outside space and this spot is pet friendly too. Will stay here again.
- 5/5
Nice night
- 5/5
If you’re familiar with the McMenamins properties, then you will enjoy staying at this wonderful place. From catching a movie to sitting by a fire place, to soaking in the beautifully heated pool, it was the perfect place to do an over night couples trip. My only recommendation is if you want to sleep in then I suggest you request a room that is not facing the heated pool but if you are an early riser, then being close to the heated, pool is just a perfect place to be.
- 5/5
Such a fun place
- 5/5
The hotel was a very interesting hotel. Very cool atmosphere. Kinda Alice in wonderland vibe. The staff was very friendly. I really liked the food at the restaurant. I had a great time during my stay.
- 5/5
Hotel is very unique and super cool. Great amenities on site.
- 5/5
As always it was lovely. Enjoyed a nice dinner and drinks by the fireplace later.
- 5/5
I just love the decor and ambiance and staff of Mcmenamins!
- 5/5
Cant wait to go back
- 5/5
Great site for a destination… plenty to enjoy on site.. great intimate live music… wife and I really enjoyed our stay
- 5/5
As always, great experience at the Grand Lodge!
- 5/5
Love the soaking pool and the pizza!
- 5/5
Soaking pool is nice
- 5/5
Whoever was working, A young lady on the evening of 12/16/24 was extremely helpful and wanted to make sure we had everything and let us know of all amenities of the hotel.
- 3/5
Not really my thing, but it was ok. The bed was not comfortable in our room. Actually pain inducing.
- 4/5
The building is expansive, and there are little details everywhere to pique visitors’ interests, from stories about guestrooms namesakes painted on the walls, to unique pieces of artwork in the hallways, or photos of celebrity guests. The dining room is lovely and cozy, and the menu always features delicious dishes, and interesting in-house beers, ciders, and cocktails. The soaking pool is my favorite part of this McMenimans location. Sitting in the pool at night while the water jets gurgle, and the steam rises, looking up at the overhanging canopy of trees lit by the dim lighting… it’s a unique, relaxing, and inviting ambiance. We enjoyed a movie at the cozy and charming historic theater, which offers a small menu of food and drinks guests can enjoy during the show. My only complaint is the rooms are quite small. I booked a Queen room on the first floor that had a “common” bathroom, which means a shared bath down the hallway. The room itself had a small sink, mirror, and a closet, and a small amount of walking space around the bed. The curtains need repairing or replacing. And it would be nice if there were also sheer curtains to allow light in while maintaining privacy. Otherwise the bed was comfortable and the room was cozy. I look forward to returning soon!
- 5/5
It was my wife's first visit. She loved the artwork, secret rooms and treasure hunt. Very friendly staff all around and beautiful grounds.
- 5/5
Absolutely loved staying here and can't wait to stay again!
- 5/5
Love it all.
- 5/5
The soaking pool, the plants, the bars, the people, and the soaking pool
- 5/5
First time at a mcmenamins it was fun.
- 3/5
When we booked the room, it was not clear that we would have shared bathrooms.
- 5/5
This is the most unique piece of property I have ever visited! It's magic and every time I come back, it's like a special treat. It's relaxing and inspirational!
- 5/5
Just wished that our stay could go towards the Loyalty Program. We will be back!
- 5/5
This McMenamins property was so much fun! From secret doors to finding the mystery artwork, we wandered the whole place. Enjoyed it very much
- 5/5
Everything is is good , third floor art is we not as good as the rest
- 5/5
Surreal, but beautiful. All their cocktails include their own liquors, which was pretty good.
- 3/5
The idea is neat but our room was dingy and was malodorous. Staff was sparse and food even more so. Shared bathrooms are inconvenient.
- 4/5
The only hiccup that did sour our trip was on our last night we had been making our rounds to the bars that were open, everyone was great as usual until we got to The Doctor’s Office. The bartender there had something against our presence despite the fact we were his only customers. I could hash it all out on here but that wouldn’t be fair to all the other great employees who we encountered. Hopefully whatever was going on in that guy’s life was a one off. We had an all around good time. The room was clean and comfortable (our ac wasn’t working but the staff was very apologetic and accommodating for the inconvenience). And of course we got the fun and mystery of staying a Mcmennamins.
- 5/5
Nice property. Enjoyed my brief stay and would book here in the future.
- 3/5
We like to stay at the Grand Lodge but the service was really poor on this stay. Employees were rude on multiple occasions for simple requests like getting ice or trying to get coffee in the morning. Felt unwelcome an like we were an inconvenience whenever we left the room.
- 5/5
Love this place!
- 5/5
This place a true gem!
- 5/5
Very nice comfortable stay!
- 5/5
Great location too!
- 5/5
Lovely hotel. We had so much fun exploring!
- 5/5
Fantastic spot as usual!
- 3/5
Beautiful old building
- 2/5
This property is focused on several bars in the hotel w people hanging out drinking since we got here in the afternoon. Meal in restaurant was terrible. No TV in teeny tiny room. Whike I knew there was no bathroom in the room I didn’t realize there wd be one public restroom far from our room. I assumed there wd be more smaller bathrooms w privacy. Nothing to do in town. Very disappointing experience made worse by bath weather. I assumed this wd be more of a family accommodation but it definitely is not
- 2/5
We stayed on a Wednesday between Christmas and New Year’s Day and most everything is closed. When I booked the reservation the website said that there are five restaurants, a movie theater, etc. There is only one restaurant open and one bar with limited hours, such that we missed the window. No movies are screened on Wednesdays. All of this is pertinent info before booking.
- 5/5
You can get your meals or drinks at the many restaurants to take to your room which has no TVs, No fridge or microwave. They do have a gift shop and you can get your bottle of wine at front disk. Have year around sparkling pool open until 11pm. Also can book a massage at the spa downstairs. Enjoy your stay.
- 4/5
We stayed here after hiking 22miles at the banks trail ! Soaked in the salt water pool and had a yummy dinner . Our room was right by the pool -which turned out to be a little noisy -but we slept well . Nice stay -good staff !
- 5/5
We always enjoy this property; good food, relaxing atmosphere and kind people.
- 5/5
Great food, love the funky decor, lots of story telling rooms, cool bars!
- 3/5
These are such unique properties but for the price there is a lack of guest services.
- 5/5
Fantastic stay.
- 5/5
It is a unique setting that we first experienced last year. We enjoyed it so much that we came back this year.
- 5/5
If you're looking for a stay with charm and whimsy, this is the place. We wondered the halls taking in all the murals and artwork.
- 5/5
Fun location to explore while enjoying a number of amenities.
- 5/5
Just Jack was an excellent bartender with Stellar Service and the soaking pool was fabulous! All staff very friendly 😊
- 5/5
The soaking pool sets the tone. Amazing stay
- 4/5
Creatively cool retro place at a great price.
- 5/5
This is unlike your usual hotel experience....because it was unique, such a beautiful setting, tranquil and had everything I needed for a great get away!
- 5/5
Quirky. Great staff. Good food options. Prices that can't be beat. Can't wait to return.
- 5/5
I stayed mid-week, and it was pretty quiet. The room was good sized, and had a wall mounted A/C-heating unit with a digital thermostat, this is a great addition. The bed was comfortable and the complimentary morning coffee was delicious. The shared bathroom was very clean. I look forward to another stay.
- 4/5
Love the history of the building and artistic renovation. Grounds are beautiful! Sad I could only stay one night.
- 5/5
Really nice
- 5/5
For dinner we both had salmon and it was delicious. The grounds are beautiful, and the soaking pool was relaxing and quiet.
- 5/5
It was good.
- 4/5
Good place. A bit expensive. Locks in shared bathroom were in disrepair in one of two showers and 1 of 2 stalls.
- 1/5
The room bad so quiet you could hear yourself think and others in the rooms next to you every little sound. It was clean but the staff were snotty and other guests were rude. Haven’t had that bad of a stay in a lodge/ hotel in my life.
- 3/5
It would be great if the bars stayed open longer, past 9-10pm on weekdays, and if the great beverages provided could be purchased from the front desk past them. Also the pool was nice, but would have better if warmer. I actually thought it was going to be saltwater, like the other Mcmenamins locations, which would be very nice! The queen bed room was very small, with no TV. The value was not great. I'd say it's worth staying once, but I will probably not return unless I'm passing through the area perhsps. Ruby Vineyards was an excellent visit nearby! Great organic, family grown wines!
- 5/5
Close to my parent's home, the site has everything you need. I liked the offerings at the restaurant and bars, and the heated pool was very nice to sit and relax in.
- 3/5
The bathroom and shower were clean and updated. Bed cover was frayed.
- 3/5
Loved the art on the walls and the selection of beer. Our room was very dark..as were most of the indoor spaces. Restaurant menu was limited and prices were high. No fridge or coffee maker in room 😒.
- 5/5
We had an emergent situation and were able to get a room, take care of what needed to be taken care of and decided we'd like to come back when we don't have an emergency scenario.
- 5/5
Many places to relax with antiques and homey feeling. Many pictures in hallways, paintings and photos of interest for the property.
- 5/5
Very unique property. Staff was very friendly and the rooms were clean. Multiple restaurants and bars in the property. It was nice sitting by a real wood fire place at Pat’s corner bar.
- 5/5
Very different and fun.
- 4/5
Beautiful property! Rooms are small with little amenities but environment, drinks, and food make up for it.
- 5/5
Mcmenimen's always is top notch. Great bars and a lovely heated outdoor soaking pool.
- 5/5
Unique experience. Fun property outside Portland. Unbelt on soaking pool not working but all other areas were excellent.
- 5/5
Beautiful, spacious, lush, green, peaceful.
- 5/5
My first time at one of these lodges. It was pretty cool. I would definitely stay again.
- 2/5
The hot tub nets were broken and the water looked brown and dirty. We waited for over 15minutes to check in because there was one person in front of us whose card wasn’t functioning. There were multiple employees but only one person working the front desk.
- 5/5
Easy check in.
- 4/5
Beautiful gardens & outdoor eating area.
- 5/5
Love the history of the building, old architecture & live band. Outdoor gardens are lovely
- 5/5
The visit was great, the only problem is i reserved with credit card and wanted to pay with gift card. Was told to use gift card at checkout and hold on CC would be released. Well iwas charged on gift card and on Credit card! Waiting to get this corrected either by CC being credited or a new gift card with $225.16 sent to me.
- 2/5
I booked this for a funeral visit. I didn’t read closely. I booked a room without a bathroom. They were able to change it for one night and I just checked out, I couldn’t do it.
- 5/5
This place is a magical little paradise.
- 5/5
Great stay!
- 3/5
Service, food and room comfort need serious attention. Absolutely not worth the price.
- 4/5
Super cozy, and the staff was very accommodating.
- 5/5
Travelocity only had us reserved for one nite and we requested two. Luckily McMinnemens could accommodate us for one more nite. I’ll never use Travelocity again.
- 1/5
Tried to reach them by phone for 3 days. No one ever answered.
- 4/5

- 3/5
A heads up, public shared bathrooms, only a bed and sink in rooms. Has a unique feel. Lots of art and paintings. Rooms have themes of people but idk why or who they are. They should put a little story pamplet in the room or something. Grounds were very big and nice to walk on but needed some trimming.
- 5/5
Wonderful, relaxing stay. Amazing grounds - the trees, ancient and so healthy! The gardens so well tended and whimsical, the staff friendly and relaxed. An easy place to unwind- casual. So many vineyards in the area and the dramatic Oregon Coast just an hour away! Love this place. Will return.
- 4/5
Loved my stay at this old Masonic lodge charm, complete with relaxing warm pool soak.
- 5/5
All of the McMenamin's properties are unique and interesting. Telling the history of each hotel is well done. Due to Covid-19, the menu and dining options were at a minimum, so we ate out at a local restaurant.
