It was ok. Not terrible but not great. The water in our room wouldnt get hot. The shower was warm and the sink never got warm. We were in it so minimally that it wasnt worth complaining over but not ideal nonetheless. Breakfast was meh. But the staff was very kind and helpful when we did need something.

My father sustained some type of bug bites or flea bites. He had welts all over his thighs. The guest upstairs was walking back and forth very loudly for 5 hours straight during the night. They also didn't seem to carry plant-based milks. Overall, my experience at this hotel was not great. I felt very disappointed.

The water pressure was very bad. The temperature would it get higher in a certain point, but I understand these our own personal preferences. The main issue was the sprinkler on the ceiling leaking and the thermostat. The room is not working properly.

Rooms were big, I like the little kitchenette even just for counter space, I feel like this is a great option for work travel. The free breakfast is a nice touch, unexpected. The walls are thin, I could hear conversations between the rooms quite clearly, and the room above us sounded like elephants in the room. Parking situation is a little tight, but I feel like that's San Diego in general. I'm a germaphobe so I do a wipe down on everything anyways, but there were certainly areas that hadn't been wiped down in awhile.

Beware poor service, hidden fees, very low budget operation. Food is worse than Junior High School cafeteria, shower has only lukewarm water, no daily room cleaning service, $20/night charge for parking in outdoor lot with very small spaces, lots of traffic noise. Most of the guests appear to be truckers and construction workers who make a lot of racket.

Hotel was good. No issues there. The only reason I took one star off is because I was charged extra for parking. This should already be included in the price listed on the website. I find it deceiving to leave that information out when booking the room.

Staff, breakfast and everything great as usual, but the room was uncharacteristically uncomfortable. The bathroom was not clean (someone else's hair all over the floor, stains on the sink, etc.) and the bed felt broken/out of whack (partner verified this as it was normal on his side) making for I comfortable sleep. Again, not characteristic for this hotel as I've stayed here many times. I'm hoping it was a one-off experience and am still planning to give it another shot.

We had a really good stay here. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was straight forward and well prepared. Nothing amazing on the breakfast front but much better than others that I have had. The building is clearly well used..... There is signs of wear everywhere but it was clean and I could see staff taking care of the property the entire time we were there. My only real grumble was the water pressure and more importantly the heat.. it fluctuated pretty constantly. Most of the time it was acceptably warm but not hot. One morning it was HOT, one evening it was cool. I would stay here again anytime.

Shower wasn't clean when I got there. There were some rocks/mud that I ended up rinsing off myself. Bathroom also smelled faintly of cigarette smoke. Desk lamp didn't work properly. Thin walls and thin floors/ceilings. If you're on the first floor prepare to hear everything anyone says outside as they walk by. Prepare to hear your neighbors above you and beside you and people in the halls talking. I was only there for one day, so it wasn't bad for a quick work trip, especially for the price. But it would not be an ideal situation for personal travel or longer trips.

The staff were all very kind and inviting! Check in was a smooth proceeds and I arrived at noon expecting to wait till 3PM but my room was ready and I was allowed in without any issues. My room was clean but then building itself is pretty rundown. The hallways are so so stuffy, not a single bit of air. The carpet all over the halls is so old and dirt smelling. The carpet in the elevator literally comes with its own bad aroma. Please get rid of it, it reeks. Breakfast was cold and limited but hey, it’s free. Parking was $20 which isn’t terrible considering it’s outside the building which the surrounding area is a bit sketchy.

That said, the hotel staff more than made up for it. Anna and Mena both went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. Mena, the general manager, was absolutely outstanding. She checked in on us daily to make sure everything was okay, and her hospitality truly made us feel at home. She not only recommended a fantastic kabob spot in El Cajon and suggested a hairstylist for my mom before the communion party, but she also went out of her way to change our room to better accommodate our needs. Mena’s genuine kindness, attention to detail, and constant willingness to help left such a positive impression on us — she is the type of manager who turns a good trip into a great one. Anna also made our stay special. She helped us find places to go sightseeing and, when we were in the lobby dressed for the communion party, she kindly offered to take photos so my whole family could be in the picture together. Their kindness and dedication really stood out and helped make our experience memorable. With some updates to the property, this could easily be a five-star stay.

10 years later, visiting family that lives in La Mesa I booked because I noticed the remodel but nothing has changed. Could not sleep for 2 nights! I understand the car wash construction but a hockey team that is running in the hallways at 1am and slamming door and jumping in the elevator. Ridiculous! There is a city ordinance in La Mesa for quiet hours that starts at 10pm. Hotel staff does nothing, cars revving outside, people screaming and talking loud and 20 hockey team kids running down the hallways at 1am. I visit family in La Mesa very frequently. Will never stay here again! Nothing has changed.

The hotel room was fine. The a/c really worked in the room. The breakfast was a normal hotel breakfast. The parking is a little tricky, but there is a lot in the back.

The property is near everything. Perfect for families and for visiting San Diego. Located next to the trolly which takes you all over San Diego. Right across the street from Costco and several restaurants. The rooms are clean. The only complaint I would have is the water pressure being low. No one likes it being difficult to wash soap off your body. Besides that, no issues. Staff is nice and accommodating.

Don't upgrade to a room with the kitchenette, because this hotel doesn't have them and the added money you pay will be lost. Apart from that, it's a fine Holiday Inn Express.

Rooms are comfortable. Good place to put your head down for a night or two. The beds are quite soft so may not be recommended for people who like something firmer. Our room had a small piece of older carpet coming apart at the seam where it met the tiled floor so we had to be careful to step over that with bare feet. The complimentary breakfast offerings were hot and offered a few unexpected choices. Would stay here again. It's a good value given the other options in the immediate area.

At 10pm, that first night after a 7 hr drive, an alarm clock was going off in the room next door for over an hour; front desk took care of it, but, it took an hour. We never set our alarm clock, and it went off at 5AM. The next night, the alarm clock in the next door room was going off again; front desk did take care it within 30 minutes. There is no security in the parking lot but, there is a $20 fee for overnight parking. It’s not a gated lot, nor is there a security guard. What’s the $20 fee for? We’re never staying there again.

The building could use a service elevator. I cut my foot on the kick plate at the bottom of the door to our room. I asked the front desk for a bandaid, which they promptly got some for me. The General Manager saw my bleeding foot, and walked in by without saying a word to me. That was very disappointing and unprofessional. I've been in customer service roles for 25+ years and that was very disheartening. Luckily, it wasn't worse than it was.

The walls are thin, you can hear every step and noise from the next rooms and in the hall. The hotel was fully booked the weekend we were there and it seemed there were people outside in the parking lot and walking/stomping through the halls at all hours. Facility was pretty clean overall. We had a small fridge and microwave. Costco is right across the street and lots of fast food as well as resturants within driving distance(5-10mins). Breakfast is standard- eggs, sausage/bacon, muffins, bagels pancakes, fruits-the usual. It's about 20-30 mins away from a lot of attactions in the SD area. Staff is super friendly.

I could not stay over night here. It is not safe. It was the worst hotel I have ever booked. It still has people living in it. It was a low level weekly. I would never have a family stay here. You had to ring a door bell to get into lobby. Grandma was in lobby with her pajamas on. Stains on carpet. I was adjacent to an alley.

The staff was incredibly nice and helpful. The one thing that was awful was that you were not allowed to take the stairs instead of the elevator and there was often a wait. This seems to be a serious safety issue. The stairwells need to be open for going up and down. This is totally unacceptable.

I had an incident that happened during my stay where two servicemen came to my door about 3 PM even though I had the do not disturb on my door. They continued to knock until they woke me up and demanded to come in and fix a light. I was not sure who these men were so I did not open the door and called the service desk to find out. They told me they thought the service men were supposed to be there in the morning and apologized for them interrupting me. I did not like this explanation and feel that it was unsafe to have two strange men come to my door consistently knocking and knocking and waking me up and demanding to come into my room. This was unacceptable, but the hotel did not seem to take it seriously.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn Express in La Mesa Ca. The young man at the front desk Armando was very pleasant and helpful with checking me in. He really does a great job. So did Aileen when I checked out! In fact all the staff was smiling as we walked the hallways and were helpful if we had any questions on where anything was. The breakfast was pretty good! The cook was was very nice and made sure that we had all the necessities for the breakfast. They had a variety of options to eat. I highly recommend this hotel. Oh and the bed sheets and pillows were very white and clean! They smell clean!! I felt very comfortable and safe walking around with my family when I went to the breakfast area!
