A true oasis, truly zen. Magnificent breakfast and while no restaurant, they do offer outstanding snacks and pizza for lunch. The pool is a great size for swimming and fantastic loungers. My family hails from Laguna and this place feels like the hotel designed to give you the locals vibe. Rooms are so delightful. Gorgeous boutique hotel. Try it.

I loved everything about the property. The breakfast was excellent, and the egg frittata was especially delicious. Check-in was smooth, and the staff were amazingly friendly, welcoming, and professional. Everyone made the experience feel warm, comfortable, and cozy from the moment I arrived. Definitely come back in a heart beat! Location is amazing really close to downtown area. I love how chic the hotel is! It truly need exceeded my expectations on it. Love their lobby shops and how beautifully designed with the decor and overall the entire property. I stayed in Room 21, which was overall great. One thing I noticed was that there were a few flies in the bathroom during my stay. It seemed like there wasn't much ventilation, although I may have needed to open the window. I would absolutely book here again in a heartbeat. However, I did notice some mildew around the bathroom sink area (near the bottle on the far left) and on the shower door. It was visible and had a noticeable odor. I should mention that I work in real estate/property management, so I tend to notice small maintenance details that others might overlook. One last minor note: I found the door handle and key a little difficult to operate at first. Once I figured it out, it wasn't a problem, but a slightly easier mechanism would be a nice improvement. Overall, I had a wonderful stay and would happily return.

Nice rooms, ocean view, walking distance from the beach

Could not believe how much charm every corner of this venue had. My wife and I spent 2 nights here and were sad we didnt book at least 5 more! great location and Shaws cove just 3 minute walk away is arguably one of the most scenic spots on the whole CA coastline. cant recommend more
- 5/5
I was here for 4 nights and I absolutely LOVED my experience!! I felt at home the second I came in. Staff was extremely friendly and was above and beyond. Nothing more that I could ask for. Beautiful property, heated pool, great breakfast, nice rooms, Salt and Stone toiletries, great bathrooms too. Walking distances to great restaurants and beaches. The ONLY thing I was sad to hear is that it’s an adult only hotel. So, I can’t bring my grandson. But I myself will DEFINITELY be back!
- 5/5
The bar and staff and hotel were overall great, but you don't get to choose the location of your room and if you get stuck on the street side it's very loud throughout the night. Wish it came with ear plugs.
- 5/5
breakfast was included which was a nice surprise, the records in the room were charming, and the resort was very well maintained and in a perfect area of Laguna Beach. Can’t wait to return!

Charming boutique hotel in north Laguna Beach. Steps away from a hidden beach. Very quiet. Staff is excellent and so helpful. You feel a world away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Great weekend getaway from LA!

It was beautifully designed; peaceful; very well thought out. The staff was super hands on and friendly. An absolutely blissful stay
- 5/5
was clean with a very comfortable bed. Great location too.

Hotel has just undergone a management transition. New front desk staff were very helpful. Rooms and grounds are all in good condition. I paid more for a deluxe king room and it was smaller (no couch) than the regular king room my friends got. But I was on the top floor with a bit of an ocean view. My room door was glass and one wall was all windows facing a common walkway. The room needs better lighting as it was fairly dark. Mattress and bedding were very comfortable. Towels were thick and water pressure and temperature were fine. Pool area was well maintained with plenty of towels. The hotel advertises as adults only but there were young children at the pool.
- 5/5
Had a wonderful stay cation here at the charming hotel. The heated pool and area with palm trees is like you are staying at a friends home but with nice drinks and fresh towels. Lovely breakfast is included w nice strong coffee. Everything feels like a European- California blend. Perfect.

The place is cute but the rooms are very small with little privacy. The wifi is so bad that we had to use our hotspots. The staff were lovely, and the location is good which is why I am giving it a three-star. We will not likely stay again.

Room was clean. The vibes were chill. The staff were really helpful and accommodating would recommend.

For $465 for one nights stay this was the worst value hotel I think I have ever stayed in. There are no facilities, not even a bottle of water in the rooms. the toilet was broken which I ended up fixing myself having to take the top off the toilet top and reattach the plumping as there was no-one on duty to help, I hung my towel on the hook in the bathroom which fell off the wall. To take a bath and use soap you have to step out the bath to reach the attached shower gel on the opposite side of bathroom wall. On the site by other guest it said amazing coffee was delivered to our room,, and breakfast was lovely. I booked this place for my birthday as a special treat for my partner and I. However, we got there to be told there is. no breakfast only drip coffee in the common area in the mornings. No food is served on the premises, no staff customer care, no facilities and not even a bottle of water. There are no TV's or phones in the room so if anything isn't working it's on you to sort out. All in all I would say this place should be advistised as a room to rent nothing more as there is nothing more offered. A very very expensive experience. I have travelled the world and I don't think I've ever given a bad review before but this place was next level bad. the bed mattress was so soft I left next day with back pains. I would say save your money and give this very overpriced place a miss. I have given my reasons above

Loved the room decor and cleanliness. Went to the hotel bar twice. They had great drinks and great service but the second night we heard the guests above us stomping around in the middle of the night and we could hear them talking. Not sure how thick the walls are.

Very nice clean and quiet. Bring personal items for entertainment like an iPad laptop game console and/or small monitor/tv. Was not aware there were no tvs on site or in rooms but I think it helps to enjoy the property more and take everything in with no distractions! Very nice place and great staff will be back (with a tv)

A superb boutique hotel experience. Quaint, hip, tranquil. Very friendly and attentive staff.

Property was nice; the power was out, but was not their fault. They handled it very well! Property was nice, but you can hear other people from your room very easily.
- 5/5
I never wanted to leave
- 5/5
Beautiful space, lovely staff, great drinks and vibes. A slice of Palm Springs steps from the beach.
- 5/5
The Hotel Joaquin is a beautiful hotel in an ideal location. I appreciate the stylish rooms, particularly the spacious bathhouse style shower and tub. Our room, Thalia, did not have an ocean view, so if I was to book again, I would research which rooms have the views I would want.
- 3/5
No food at all was a bummer. Pillows in room were h comfortable. Not being told that there was a private dinner party on New Years Eve and the common area was not available threw us for a loop. That info would have been nice to know.

Spotless room, staff responded to questions quickly, perfect location. Shout out to Jack and Jonah at the front desk for making the stay even better.

Patrick went above and beyond to help me find a charging cord in the middle of the night. The staff also wrote a handwritten note I received at checkout. Exceptional customer service.

- 5/5
Lovely boutique, hotel, walking distance from beautiful Laguna Beach. Quaint and peaceful, decorated in minimalist surfer chic. Free of televisions, telephones, only the vintage record player and vinyl selection to enhance your stay. Small detailed touches like morning coffee delivered to your door add to the properties charm. The staff was so kind,I look forward to my next visit!
- 4/5
Lovely little place with nice added extras but very over priced for what it was. We felt like everything was about money and the free breakfast they advertise wasn’t that great and had hidden charges. Staff were very friendly but felt like they were constantly wanting you to purchase over priced drinks when laid round the pool.
- 5/5
Our 4th stay here and we look forward to our 5th one! Love every detail from beginning to end!
- 4/5
Beautiful and clean property and overall pretty good experience for a couple of nights. Our mattress was not very comfortable and likely needed to be replaced. It dipped in some parts. The pool was cold and definitely was not at 90 (nor even 80 or 70 degrees) temperature as advertised. More likely the pool temperature was in the 60s. Short walk to lovely Shaw’s Cove but there are limited spots to set your things up and it was very crowded.
- 5/5
The property is amazing! Everything is in the details. It’s super clean, peaceful, the pool is awesome, view is great, decor is INCREDIBLE, loved the record player and LPs in the room. Love the movies, the taffy in the jars, the staff are so sweet, positive and lovely. The food is also really great. The only thing is check in is at 4pm which is a little late IMO.
- 5/5
Beautiful and relaxing property with amazing staff. Pool was gorgeous and the record players in the rooms was a great touch.

- 5/5
Always such a beautiful, magical, and unique experience staying at this hotel filled with music, positive energy, coastal views and stunning decor.
- 5/5
The breakfast was fresh and delicious and the hotel was both relaxing and stylish.
- 4/5
A very tasteful hotel with vinyl player in the room. But it can get noisy in the morning if other guests wake up very early.
- 3/5
The rooms are a little tired. Furniture is a Laraine’s and walls need a re-paint, but they also have a lovely charm. Good location and beautiful beach. Having to pay a gratuity on the free breakfast everyday was a bit of a sting. Along with being charged the full resort fee despite the swimming pool not being operational when we stayed.
- 3/5
The room was very small, in the alley. Nothing special. Over priced for what we got. No tv in the room. Location was not ideal for restaurants etc.
- 5/5
Perfect! The staff couldn’t be nicer. The breakfast and poolside snacks blew us away! Perfect getaway, can’t wait to come back.
- 5/5
Great boutique experience. Great pool, well-appointed property and fantastic staff. We will be booking again soon!

Disinterested staff
- 3/5
Beautiful place in a great location. The service is underwhelming, bordering on disinterested. Particularly before they received my reservation, they were a bit rude. I have mobility challenges, when i asked for a chair in the shower, the receptionist pointed to a few chairs and said “ you can take that one, no one uses it” instead of offering to bring a chair there. Not a bad experience, just for the price, the service is very mediocre
- 5/5
Such a beautiful hotel. Excellent breakfast, friendly staff, and very clean rooms.
- 5/5
Such a fantastic and restorative stay. Will definitely come back again!
- 5/5
Great place. One room was a little musty from the moisture near the ocean. Staff great- nice walk to town/beach…
- 5/5
We loved our stay at Joaquin Hotel! Perfect, serene and aesthetically pleasant weekend getaway.
- 5/5
Beautiful property, Staff was amazing! I highly recommend staying at this beautiful property!

Beautiful boutique hotel with quaint feel and friendly staff. Will definitely stay here again. Highly recommend if you don't have kids with you.
- 5/5
The aesthetic was on point. The touches all around were exquisite. The staff was friendly and so helpful Will definitely return
- 5/5
It was great. Only downfall was no heater in the room, room 10 if youre wondering. But thats neither here nor there.
- 5/5
The property is a very short walk to the water. All of the staff were warm and welcoming. The aesthetics are really nice and not campy like other beach properties. They made my Christmas very nice with a sweet little gift under the tree.
- 1/5
The only way I could do that was if you wanted me too I could come and pick it out and then I can good
- 3/5
The property itself is pretty, the decor is super cute and the food/bar is good. That's where it ends. After arriving a little early for check in (just before 2pm) I knew I would have to wait for my room. I was told 45 minutes. So I grabbed a drink and some food and sat on the terrace and enjoyed that sun. At 4pm I finally asked if my room was ready and was told the "final touches" were being added. I was taken to my room at 4:45pm. The room faced Pacific Coast Highway and all night long you can hear every single car that goes by. It's super loud. At one point I put water into my water bottle from the tap and it was cloudy and dirty. We asked another guest about their room and they said you could hear everything in the room next door - showers, toilets, doors etc. When we addressed the concerns we felt like we were patted on the head and told "oh well". It's too bad - the property itself is really quite pretty so I was hoping for a better experience.

Top notch room design and materials, amenities, and attention to detail.
- 5/5
Nice pool
- 5/5
Lovely property and good location. Lose to the Main Beach but away from the crowd.
- 5/5
Loved this space, even you get a resort stay charge but totally worth it because you get sit down breakfast with service for free every morning with coffee and juices and walking to the beach and a pool. It’s ideal
- 5/5
We had a great time here and enjoyed our mini "staycation" last night. The views were spectacular and the room was very comfortable. Highly recommend this place!
- 5/5
Eric was fantastic
- 5/5
Water pressure could be better. Regardless we will be back.
- 5/5
How unique it is and tucked away. Amazing spot
- 5/5
We had a fabulous trip! We love staying here. Everyone is so helpful and kind. The drinks are delicious and the service is impeccable.
- 5/5
It was amazing and the service was great
- 5/5
This was a sweet little gem of a stay. Wonderful check-in process, with a welcome cocktail. Awesome room with a soaking tub, great shower and in room turntable to enjoy the house collection of vinyl. The pool was heated just right with comfortable furniture to lay out and relax when not swimming. Walking distance to beach access. The complimentary breakfast was on point.
- 2/5
The value for the money is not too great. The rooms are very small, and we had stains on our room floors. The stay is over priced.
- 3/5
I was not pleased at all with this stay. There was no onsite parking left when I arrived, which was not great considering I was recovering from a broken toe. There was a family reunion happening on the premises so people were gathered outside my room, so there was little quiet or privacy. The service was not good - they were understaffed and I waited at breakfast for 15 minutes before getting a server. The front desk asked specifically what time I wanted tea in the morning, and then one morning didn't show up and the next morning came and woke me up 30 minutes earlier than I had asked, and it was my morning to sleep in. Also, housekeeping didn't wear masks, which seems, in this day and age, not best practices. Overall very disappointed.
- 5/5
It was such a dream! This was a Christmas gift to myself due to being alone this year, and it was so special. Such an intimate environment, with extremely kind staff and amazing food and drink! They even gave me a sweet little Christmas gift and placed it under their Christmas tree. Altogether such a sweet experience, wish I could've stayed longer!
- 5/5
We greatly enjoyed our stay with the beautiful pool and short walk to the beach at Shaw's Cove.
- 5/5
Easily one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. They make you feel so welcome. The design is impeccable. Everything is so thoughtful, from the activities to morning coffee delivery. Pool was beautiful, as are the surrounding beaches. I will be going back.
- 5/5
Amazing stay!! Can’t speak highly enough. Wonderful caring staff. Lovely room. Fantastic food /drink. No TV’s in the room so we could enjoy all the records. Perfect getaway
- 5/5
Loved our stay at Hotel Joaquin, food, drinks and staff were all so lovely.
- 5/5
What a lovely stay it was! The aesthetics, the food, the staff, the views, the list goes on, and on; but this is a perfect place to get away with your person or people. A round of applause for the staff. Thank you for making the stay so comfortable and being so helpful (especially walking the umbrella down to the beach for us). The intimacy, and peace offered here is second to none, and I can’t wait to visit again soon.
- 3/5
The hotel is beautiful and the staff is super sweet. Great location too. Unfortunately we had a very noisy room. This hotel needs to put up windows to block the street noise. Also Expedia offered a wrong description of our room. I paid extra for an “ocean view” that only has an ugly & noisy street view “
- 5/5
What a beautiful, unique, beach-side retreat. The interior decoration is fresh and new, the beds were so comfortable, the coffee service was amazing, and the restaurant / bar were phenomenal. The location can't be beat, it's a short walk from one of the most beautiful beaches and coves in Laguna.
- 5/5
Best place EVER
- 5/5
The property is really beautiful and peaceful. I love how it's its own little community where you can interact if you want or keep to yourself. I love the touch of the record players and albums to borrow. I needed a break from screens and the world and got it at this hotel.
- 4/5
Overall we really enjoyed our time here. This hotel is great for a shorter trip where you want to relax by the pool and be outdoors. The entire hotel feels very open with lots of fresh air and nice places to sit. The rooms are quite small so we spent most of our time reading by the pool. The coffee service is a nice touch but only limited to drip coffee as they do not have any espresso options. Breakfast was not great which was disappointing but we really enjoyed just sitting outside and relaxing.
- 5/5
Great relaxing feel! Nice pool. Food was delicious. Very good coffee delivered to the room e morning.very
- 5/5
Beautifully designed and attentive staff. Felt like I was hanging out in a really cool home.
- 5/5
Absolutely beautiful property !!!! It will never disappoint !
- 5/5
Adorable, luxurious and peaceful!
- 5/5
Such a cool and beautiful place. Love the location too, right by the beach
- 5/5
Amazing. Absolutely outstanding boutique hotel, gorgeous interior design by Robert McKinley, super nice and helpful staff that work as a team to make your stay perfect! You will feel more like you’re staying in their gorgeous Latina Beach home than in a “hotel”. Fantastic bar and unpretentious foodie-quality restaurant serving up locally sourced farm to table deliciousness. We will be back many times!! PS- please don’t tell anyone about this place… better if we just keep it our little secret 😉
- 3/5
The bed was great, the staff was very nice, but if you like a TV in your room and hot water in your shower this place would not be for you. It’s a nice location but not right on the beach but you can walk there. The rooms do not have a view.
- 5/5
Everything was amazing !!!!
- 3/5
Good location but overpriced for what you are offered. Tight quarters, non-functioning record player, no TV. All in all not worth the expense in my mind.
- 5/5
Very quiet, friendly
- 5/5
We love hotel Joaquin! We will definitely be coming back. The hotel is beautiful, the staff are super friendly, yummy breakfast, the pool was warmed up, and they even set up an umbrella and chairs for you at the beach.
- 5/5
Hotel Joaquin is a meticulously clean, stunning replication of what living in Laguna Beach 75 years ago was like, in all it's bohemian elegance. The aesthetics, art, decor, music, period hardware/fixtures, furniture, terracotta tiling, art deco white dry wall, high ceilings with exposed beams, and high-end doors and windows combined with numerous patios, a bar with a view, outside dining, and beautiful gardens, grass areas, and a pool that cascade down the hill towards the ocean, we felt like we were in living Laguna as it was decades ago. This is not the place to come and watch television, but to savor the lack of relentless techno-chatter of our times. Instead, we enjoyed vinyl/LP's and turntables provided in the rooms. Hotel Joaquin is perched back and above some of Laguna's most stunning coves: Shaw, Diver's, Crescent Bay, and Emerald Bay in a beautiful residential neighborhood, while being only blocks from the Laguna Art Museum, Main Beach, and countless tide pools, shops and restaurants. It is also just a short drive from the stunning state park, Crystal Cove, to the north. And the staff could not have been more hospitable, kind, and appropriately available and communicative. We will be back.

Alphonso, our morning server was wonderful! Well appointed property with a lovely pool.
- 4/5
I liked the hotel but, they didn’t clean the rooms ... I had to ask for shower gel, shampoo after 3 days .
- 5/5
I loved the room it was very clean and cute also it was quiet and relaxing, and the staff was great! Highly recommend. The only tricky part is parking but everything else great.
- 5/5
A beautiful, well designed lovely and safe place our first trip to laguna beach and it was wonderful. Hesitant to share this review as I know we will return and it would be nice to keep it for ourselves...
- 2/5
The hotel staff could have either control the behavior of its loud guests or (b) warn other guests that their stay would coincide with a large, loud and health-risky event so that guests can decide whether to cancel or reschedule their stay. Other than this, our ocean-view room was great but we could not use any other areas of the hotel due to the issue highlighted above.
- 5/5
A great boutique hotel with ocean views. Helpful and friendly staff, great pool, and excellent decor. The record players in each room are a fun touch.
- 3/5
The hotel is pretty and nice but was deeply disappointed by their dining menu and the quality of the food.
- 5/5
This hotel has been beautifully designed with clear attention to even small details. The front doors and all furniture is beautiful wood and each room is equipped with a record player and old records. We probably got the worst room in the back with a window to the street so it was a bit noisy and dark but I’d highly recommend the front rooms with balconies. The employees were very nice and we could text them at any time with requests. The morning coffee and scones were not great but otherwise the stay was wonderful
- 3/5
Due to covid, we cancelled our original Christmas travel plans and decided on a last minute, one night staycation at Hotel Joaquin instead. Our plan was to spend the day in the pool (as the ocean temp has gotten a little too cold). We live a 5 min walk from the property so checked it out before we booked. Frank let us take a quick look at the garden and pool - both are gorgeous. He mentioned Ciel (#29) was one of the best rooms they had. Later that night I phoned to double check that the pool was heated - Gabi confirmed that it was - before booking Ciel. After checking in, we headed straight to the pool - it was very cold. After a few attempts to get in I went to ask about the heating. The manager informed me that the heat wouldn't be turned on today or tomorrow. Actually, it won't be back on until February. February! I mentioned that I had specifically asked about it before booking - he said that all staff had been notified that heat was off through an email communication. Ironically, as we were discussing this, behind him, a staff member was confirming to a guest on the phone that the pool was heated! I still feel deceived. After sunset I decided to take a warm bath (in lieu of the pool) and was shocked to find a lot of hair in the bath tub. It was not mine or my husband's. We wanted to love Hotel Joaquin but left disappointed after spending $420 (incl. $45 resort fee) on an experience that didn't deliver.
