Reviews
The hotel received mixed reviews, with guests appreciating the comfortable and clean rooms, friendly staff, and convenient location. However, there were several complaints about hidden fees, lack of amenities, and maintenance issues.
- Comfortable and clean rooms
- Friendly and accommodating staff
- Hidden fees for parking and early check-in
- Lack of amenities such as breakfast and daily maid service
- 5/5
Decent place to stay and the price was certainly right.
- 4/5
There was no breakfast
- 5/5
Very clean and nice hotel.
- 0.5/5
Could hear neighbor upstairs.Walls are thinking. Refrigerator made a loud noise the entire stay.
- 4/5
The room seemed clean, there was just a an odd smoky smell that permeated the room...or.maybe pet odor? It appeared people could bring pets which is a negative for us due to my allergies. I should have called to ask. Otherwise the gal at the front desk was courteous and efficient. I thought the bed was relatively comfortable.
- 5/5
I chose this hotel because it is "pet friendly" - and then we ended up staying there without pets! We loved it anyway, mainly because they have the FRIENDLIEST, MOST HELPFUL STAFF MEMBERS I've ever met, on every shift 24/7. If you're staying for a long time, they have a pristine laundry facility and a cool "vending" area for larger items such as blenders, mixers, etc. Rooms are clean, with full kitchenettes and a large fridge. Only thing to be aware of is that there are no options for two beds to a room. We were comfortable with two people - one in a recliner, the other in the bed.

This is a commentary on Hotels.com. This is an older property that is very inexpensive. For what it is, it is fine. But it isn’t a 9.0. It was clean inexpensive and a series of steps below other similar facilities. Yet it will have a score like it is a Marriott because it delivers a value because it is cheap.
- 5/5
Exceptional
- 5/5
The dog fee was not shared on Expedia - it was an extra $75.
- 5/5
😀
- 4/5
The kitchenette was very handy to have, and it’s nice to have access to other appliances that are not in your room, like an air fryer or a slow cooker. You just borrow it at the front desk. The outdoor bbq grill unfortunately was broken so that was disappointing. The rooms are dated, and there is no house keeping unless you want to pay $10 extra every time you want that service. Location was quiet, nothing close by, so u need a vehicle or ride share to get around. But the price was affordable.
- 4/5
Very good
- 5/5
Room was very clean and maintained. Amenities were nice. Only bothersome thing, when turning on the shower water there was a loud screech like sound. When trying to get hotter water by pushing the nob more towards hot, the sound would get louder to the point you would think the floor you’re on can hear you shower! Other than that, ONE OF THE BEST SUITES I HAVE EVER STAYED IN!!!!!
- 5/5
We had a very clean room. The receptionist was very personable and made us feel very welcome. We enjoyed our stay.
- 4/5
The tub drain was broken, would not close all the way so the only way I could take a bath was stuffing a washcloth into the drain. And some of the dishes looked dirty/scuffed. But otherwise, my room was clean and comfortable. Would stay here again!!
- 4/5
Plenty of room. Kitchen was nice to have to prepare food we brought along.
- 1/5
The front desk told me if I make reservation under my name for my son who is 17, he can stay. When we got there, they declined and didn’t reimburse me.
- 4/5
On the other hand, the room wasn’t very clean. The fridge was dirty inside, the remote control was greasy and had food marks. There was wet toilet paper on the side of the toilet and the bathroom walls and the bed was hard. We stayed one night for a soccer tournament and unfortunately I don’t think I would have been able to sleep there another night.
- 4/5
Dogs should be located on a single floor not all floors
- 4/5
The bed was comfortable and there were 4 comfortable pillows on the queen bed. The bathroom was clean and the various soaps were provided. The office staff was very nice and helpful. There was no breakfast, we made our own. That's where the problems were. There are 2 burners, similar to hotplates run by a timer. It was confusing trying to get it to retain the heat. The timer on the wall seemed to regulate it. There were 2 plates, 1 saucer, 2 bowls, 2 cups, 2 forks, 2 knives and 2 spoons! There was a 4-cup coffee maker and no salt and pepper shakers. The office had the small packets. There was no plug for the sink, so we used the dishwasher daily for our few dishes. Had to ask for the soap packet every day. There was a long counter to eat on and work with tablets, but there was only 1 desk chair and 1 lounge chair. There was no 24 hr. coffee available. There was coffee in the a.m. in the lobby.

We stayed there two days over the weekend. Checking in was the only issue. We got there at 3:45 pm and tried to check in thinking it was almost 4pm. In reality it was 2:45 pm because of time change. The lady at the front desk told us that she wasn't sure if both our rooms were ready so she made a call. Come to find out they weren't but if we came back at 4pm they would be. We returned at 4pm and new ladies at front desk said they weren't still ready because they had a busy day. We explained to them what was said and they called then went to check on them. When they came back they found two rooms and we got checked in.

The staff is phenomenal. Sadly they recognize me now; having stayed 10+ weeks. But is nice seeing (smiling) familiar faces when you’re spending so much time away from home
- 3/5
The USB charging outlet didn't charge. The bed was comfortable, friendly staff and was clean.

hotel booking the resonse said there was no rooms left yet they took my money
- 2/5
This place is very dated and absolutely awful. There was so much wrong with the room that I don't know where to begin. There were stains on the sofa and chairs in the living room/kitchenette area. Even the lamp shades in the bedroom had stains on them. Not sure how that could've happened but quite frankly I don't want to know. It was just gross! The rooms need to be updated starting with repairs to the walls, a fresh coat of paint, and furniture replacement. The carpet should also be replaced with LVP if they allow pets in the hotels. That's just common sense!! Sonesta needs to do better! I will not recommend the Sonesta hotels to anyone visiting the area for graduations on the Naval base. Definitely book your stay and better hotels for a bit more money per night or stay right on base at the Navy Lodge!
- 4/5
Rooms are clean, bed was comfortable
- 5/5
The bathroom was angled and would have been (door-wise) accessible for my son in a wheelchair . . . very surprised.and pleased
- 5/5
It was clean, quiet, and comfortable. Plenty of hot water and AC worked great! I had to check in late due to weather and traffic delays but Elizabeth was great and checked me in over the phone so I didn’t have to worry about losing my room.
- 5/5
The room was clean and as advertised. The floor was quiet. Ample parking. Adequate fitness room. No frills for sure but would recommend.

Quiet, clean, easy place to stay. No frills. No ills.

We were pleasantly surprised on the cleanliness of the room and the property overall. Staff was friendly and courteous.

Bathroom wasnt clean enough, there was still stains around the toilet base from previous accidents, dishes were obviously not washed, other than that it was fine. Playpen I borrowed wasnt cleaned

👍
- 3/5
Room was clean but it smelled like my grandmas house when we visited: Smokers house masked with other smells to try and hide the fact the space is smoked in. It was overwhelming. Overall, located conveniently to things you would need when traveling - quiet - and plenty of parking.
- 5/5

The only negative was the water pressure in the shower. The price was excellent and the facility was clean and extremely quiet

Nice space to work. Gym is nice. Can checkout appliances which was convenient but ran out of blankets so couldn’t get another one for the night which was needed

- 4/5
The kitchen was fully equipped and the space was roomy. There’s an iron but no blow dryer. I enjoyed my stay for the most part. The room looked clean at first glance. However while in the bed I noticed the space had a stale scent & both bed lamps had a thick layer of dust on them. There was also a visible layer of dust on the top of the toilet. I’m not an avid duster so it has to be extreme for me to notice. The room didn’t seem to be properly cleaned.
- 4.5/5
The property is clean. They give you things as you need it. They post stuff up before they do it. They are quick to put warnings on your door for fire drills or anything like that. They do talk to people who are making a lot of noises. They don’t have bedbugs or roaches, but they do have spiders and those red and black bugs. We had a couple people with bad attitudes, but I won’t let that spoil the bunch if you will.
- 3/5
Good: pleasant front desk staff, relatively quiet except for being near an active train line. I put on noise canceling headphones to block the sound. This could be a much nicer place if the rooms were better maintained and the furniture kept clean and in good repair.
- 5/5
Friendly, efficient staff. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. I enjoyed my stay.
- 5/5
Everything was out class
- 3/5
There was still hair in the bathroom from previous people before us.
- 5/5
We enjoyed our stay. There was plenty of room snd it felt very comfortable for the one night. The only concern was the mattress on let out sofa . It was springy and hard.
- 5/5
The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. Had a nice stay!
- 4/5
Didn't spend much time in the hotel, but our stay was pleasant, hotel was clean and quiet
- 5/5
Clean room!
- 4/5
Nice friendly staff. Rooms are older but super clean. I like staying there & will again. Good location as family lives close . Many major stores & restaurants in the area as well.
- 5/5
Upgraded amenities and fast check in
- 4/5
The staff all were very nice, and the room was bigger than we thought it would be.
- 5/5
It was very nice and comfortable
- 5/5
I really enjoyed my day
- 5/5
The staff the cleaning service everything was its perfect
- 5/5
Best experience I ever had and will recommend
- 5/5
It was great.
- 5/5
Everything was very good. I would appreciate it if there were an option for breakfast.
- 4/5
Excellent staff, clean and updated spacious room with kitchen. Would have loved a king bed but the queen worked. Only complaint is the thermostat was a bit challenging to figure out. Had to have it on cool to actually heat the room. If had it on heat mode set to 74 we woke up sweating with the room temp at 86degree even though the thermostat set at 74. We eventually figured it out but system would constantly blow hot or cold air to regulate. Overall we liked having the kitchen so it kind of offset the inconvenience with the HVAC
- 5/5
Hotel is a great value for the cost. Room was clean, bed was comfortable (not too hard, not too soft) and they did a great job keeping the parking lot iced and plowed. My only complaint is that they did away with their coffee machine and the lobby code was not great.
- 4/5
Room was clean, the staff was very courteous
- 5/5
Clean room and front desk employees were very good.
- 5/5
An amazing place to stay!
- 3/5
Bath tub didn't drain well. Reported to front desk.
- 5/5
Very clean and welcoming! Got in a bit late but front desk staff is there 24 hours which is great. My room was nice sized, well stocked and clean. All staff I dealt with were overwhelmingly pleasant and nice! Definitely would return

We also encountered 2 roaches in our first room and had to be moved, only to encounter more roaches. We left in the middle of the night to go to a better hotel.
- 5/5
Just little smells of dogs
- 4/5
In a handicap bathroom as no counter area just a sink. Made reservations 2 months head of stay. The room was to be queenbed with sofa TV area separate bedroom in a handicap bath which had no countertop area just a sink
- 5/5
Love them!!!!
- 3/5
Windows were full of cobwebs, dust on pretty much every surface that isn't used daily, stainless steel in be bathroom was filthy, toilet had a ring in it, stink bugs in the sofa, dust on the TVs and in the closets, and debris in the corners of the kitchen floor...
- 5/5
Clean room, nice staff

Clean hotel great location nice staff

- 5/5
The attendant at check in was welcoming and shared all the details about the property. Being my first stay and experience with Sonesta Simply Suites I was very pleasantly surprised by the property and offerings. A legitimate gym with proper equipment and pet friendly are a couple of my favorite features. The studio suite is spacious and well appointed. I have a new favorite stay when I’m traveling for work and fun.
- 5/5
Very clean hotel with a great staff. Convenient location between Libertyville and Mundelien.
- 3/5
Also I would like to mention that it’s not ADA compliant and outdated they only have one single door to the main entrance and is not electric. This place is more suitable for a solo traveler looking for privacy and a place to lay their head at night.
- 4/5
Good!
- 4/5
Room very spacious
- 5/5
My first experience at Sonesta was good! The kitchen was fully equipped with anything you need utensil wise. Great working space, however, there was no high speed internet as promised in the booking preview. I had to use my own data to support my needs as I was working while at the hotel. The bathroom was nice as well! Over all, the hotel and rooms are nice and spacious and offer lots of versatility. I didn’t get to use the gym but it’s nice to know it is available! The hotel offers great options for snacks in the lobby as well! Side note, I had a little friend on my wall at the end of my visit. It looked like a carpet bug which freaked me out lol
- 5/5
Easy check in and check out. Clean room FULL size fridge was wonderful
- 5/5
Loved it
- 3/5
Decent stay no major complaints or issues
- 5/5
Around at everything just like an apartment. Very clean and comfortable.
- 5/5
We were in town for a fencing tournament and it was a 3 minute drive to the Canlan Sports Center. We had a nice and quiet stay and the staff was very kind.
- 5/5
Very nice accomodations. Great price we stay here every time we come to Chicago to see our family
- 5/5
It was great
- 3/5
The refrigerator in my room sounded like it was grinding every time it kicked on. Bathtub had hair in it. My room was near check in desk and employee doors so it was loud. I stayed here before in another room and loved it. This time was disappointing.
- 5/5
Clean room, quiet, the staff was very friendly and professional
- 3/5
Will not stay there again.
- 5/5
Friendly staff ready to help you!
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
The ladies at the front desk are so kind and wonderful! Room was super comfortable, spacious, and clean.
- 5/5
Everything about it was fine. I did not pick up on the fact that they do not offer a complimentary breakfast (rooms have kitchenettes, and there is some microwavable food available for purchase). Probably wouldn't have stayed here if I'd realized that, but if you don't care about that, its otherwise very comfortable and pleasant.

- 5/5
Very friendly staffs.
- 5/5
Nice facility. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Room was clean and quiet, bathroom was clean and well stocked. No issues were encountered. Good job all around.
- 5/5
Laundry service is good. thanks
- 5/5
Wonderful staff. Quiet area and glad I found it when I needed it. Definitely recommend!
- 5/5
The receptionist checking us in on September 19th evening was an exceptionally nice, friendly, very helpful and informative young lady...wish i remembered her name, but she should be the face of your hotel's hospitality.
- 5/5
Room was clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly. I did not travel with a pet.
- 5/5
Everything was clean
- 2/5
We thought we’d found a decent place at first. Unfortunately, our bathroom trash was filled with used feminine hygiene products. Which had a question the cleanliness of everything. The WiFi in our room was very bad. I had to go sit in the laundry room for decent coverage. Why are they charging for parking? The area is not limited in space? The kitchen worked. We slept well. Relatively quiet room and comfortable bed. Lots of smokers and dogs at the property. But the internet and lack of cleaning make it a place I won’t stay again.
- 3/5
It is clean. There are no amenities. You have to pay to park per night. No breakfast.
- 4/5
Our bathroom floor should have the grout deep cleaned. Also the grout on the edges of bathtub were all pulled away and should be redone
- 5/5
Great weekend stay.
- 5/5
Clean hotel. I just didn’t know that there’s no maid service.
- 1/5
Dirty rooms
- 5/5
Loved the kitchen. Staff was friendly and helpful. Location was perfect for my trip to Six Flags. No complaints at all.
- 4/5
Needed a quick one night stay and this worked out great for a very reasonable price.
- 2/5
Lack of service: We had one person sleeping in bedroom and one on the pullout sofa-bed in the living room. There was no bedding for the sofa-bed in the room. It took three trips to the front desk to get all the appropriate bedding - trip one - told the bedding was in the room I had not looked in the right place - result Return trip to say there is no bedding in closets or drawers. trip two - received a bag of bedding to put on sofa-bed; trip three - no top sheet in bedding bag, requested top sheet and received it. Also made a trip to the front desk to ask for another pillow for the sofa-bed, (there was one, but I needed two), was told we had to do with the pillows in the room they could not give me another pillow. I brought my 2 care pillows in for my friend to use with the pillows already on her bed. I ended up with one pillow, when I really needed two - due to my disability. 3 out of 4 staff were very helpful. General comments: Room - It was quiet and we appreciated that. Liked having a kitchen and we were able to get extra coffee packets. The room actually had a handicapped accessible bathroom with bars by the toilet - just a bit difficult to get into the bathroom. Entry - Missed outside front & back doors that opened when you push the button.
- 3/5
This property is tired. It needs updating in the rooms. All furniture was scratched or stained. Counter top in bathroom wasn't even attached properly.
- 5/5
Clean, friendly staff!
- 5/5
Comfortable bed, excellent bathroom and kitchen facilities, soft towels.
- 4/5
courteous staff; nice hotel. we enjoyed our stay
- 5/5
Everything was great - just be sure to ask for a room away from the elevator...the "ding" of the elevator was a bit annoying. I would have moved if I was going to be there more than one night.
- 5/5
The staff was extremely friendly. The rooms were amazing and it felt like it was home.
- 5/5
Check in is always easy. Nice quiet stay every time I’m in town.
- 4/5
Good stay, I would stay again
- 2/5
I would not recommend this hotel. Desk attendants were rude, facility is not maintained, and the restriction on housekeeping is cause for us to never stay here again. We were restriced to 3 bath towels for 3 people. The entire place smelled like an attempt to mask smoke and indian food with air fresheners.
- 5/5
We stayed here for a few nights and had a really nice experience. The sprinkler system was leaking when we got our room and they moved us right away. Staff were friendly and helpful and the place was very clean.
- 5/5
It was a nice stay, no worries at all with anything. I just wished it had a pool 😭😭
- 4/5
Would stay again
- 3/5
I chose this hotel because it was “pet friendly “, well they charge you $75 to be pet friendly. No waste bags in areas they want you to take your pet. Additionally, they charge you $25 parking. Decent rate advertised, but they ad in the fees after the fact. One night the fire pump was grinding away vibrating the entire wing, when alerted the staff didn’t even express a thank you for pointing out it was running. They are lucky FD didn’t respond to it running?..
- 5/5
Very pleasant and great stay starting from room cleanliness to doing laundry, very grateful for this location
- 5/5
Everything was excellent. Only issue was no recycling
- 5/5
I don’t like bathtubs in a hotel rooms, I would prefer a walk-in shower, but besides that everything else was great.
- 5/5
Great inexpensive hotel. Friendly staff
- 4/5
Older building they intend to update soon
- 4/5

- 4/5
The staff that we interacted with the most was the evening shift desk staff, Melissa. She was outstanding and welcoming—exactly the qualities you want when arriving late at an unfamiliar place.
- 5/5
Nice facility, clean, and staff is very friendly.
- 5/5
Would stay again!
- 5/5
Enjoyed the little studio we stayed in. Would come back and bring our dog next time!
- 5/5
Great!
- 5/5
This is a very clean hotel with large rooms with kitchens. Very nice staff.
- 5/5
Room was clean and had everything you could possibly need. The onsite store is exactly what the sign says "everything you need & nothing you don't" Slept great and really enjoyed the stay.
- 5/5
Property is quiet and convenient when i have business in tge area
- 2/5
TV did not work. They give you only 2 tiny towels. not very clean.
- 3/5
Industrial park location. Very quiet. Room was nice. Very spartan for a suite. No furniture other than the bed and a desk chair. Also no coffee provided in the morning. May want to change your cover photo. However there is a coffee maker in your room. No housekeeping on our 3 night stay.
- 4/5
Need to carry small carton of milk for coffee.
- 4/5
No USB ports in the room.
- 5/5
Good
- 4/5
I didn’t like that they don’t have two beds
- 5/5
This is the third time we have stayed at this property. we will be back!
- 5/5
I am from California. The front lady was very polite and nice.
- 1/5
It smelled like dog, very dated, homeless people around, electrical switches loose, 30 year old beds. Horrible experience
- 5/5
Very good
- 5/5
Great stay, from cleanliness to comfort
- 5/5
The staff was very customer care oriented and corrected and issue we had right away. Very nice place and I would recommend for anyone looking to have the extra kitchenette accomodations.
- 4/5
Clean, quiet, well maintained property
- 2/5
Definitely declining over time. And they now charge for parking.
- 5/5
The hallway was quiet at night as was the hotel itself. That made it easy to get a good night sleep.
- 3/5
I did no like the lack of coffee in the lobby.

- 5/5
Nice stay.
- 4/5
Bed wasn’t very comfortable but other than that it was a great stay. I love how dog friendly the whole place is. The staff are great.
- 5/5
The only thing is if they would have coffee in the lobby. Thats the only downfall. There was coffee in the room but that was gone by the first day.
- 4/5
In the time I was here this is a working hotel in that showers start at 5 AM. You can hear plumbing and other guests so try to go to bed "early".
- 5/5
Great service, the cleanest rooms, the property is well maintained and quiet. Theres tons of parking, and i personally love the kitchen and the snack bar of goodies for sale. This is so nice for long stays especially if you're visiting loved one from the Navy Base. Its about 20 minutes from there. I will definitely be returning.
- 3/5
our room was missing several items ie chairs, silverware, soffre cups. The TV was not working but the next morning they told us how to fix.
- 5/5
Nice clean, laundry room with workout gym... nice kichenette area and desk with cabinets walk in closet. Clean room airy room.
- 5/5
Would be great if it had more amenities
- 5/5
Quiet and clean
- 1/5
Everything was great except Liz at reception. I drove 7 hours from out of state and i got to the hotel late and she chewed me out that i should have checked in earlier and said I'd have to pay for 2 night. Last thing i wanted to deal with at 230 am. I wanted to go to bed. Won't go there again.
- 4/5
nice place
- 4/5
Property is quiet, on the outskirts of commercial area. Quick drive to conveniences and restaurants. Staff is welcoming and pleasant.
- 5/5
Amazing stay!!!! Great customer service.. I definitely will recommend, as well stay at this hotel agin💜
- 5/5
Property is very clean, pet friendly, and quiet. I enjoyed a great nights sleep!
- 4/5
Safe, clean, quiet
- 4/5
Highly recomend. Front desk women were wonderful
- 5/5
Good to stay!
- 1/5
It was to noisy. Couldn’t sleep at all. Sounded like someone was running the garage didpossl all night long in the next room
- 5/5
It was secluded which if you have a rental car perfect Uber was harder to get
- 5/5
Loved staying at Sonesta Simply Suites! The staff was unbelievably kind and accommodating and the price was very affordable. It’s about 29 minutes away from RTC but well worth a bit of a longer drive than other places to save some money and stay somewhere nice. Definitely recommend staying here if you’re in Norfolk!
- 5/5
Remote location
- 3/5
I really liked this place . But the only complaint is they don’t do housekeeping every day. Other than that every was great
- 3/5
Front desk was good, but my request to fix the toilet went unfulfilled. Had to change rooms.
- 5/5
Staff is friendly and nice. Always feel welcomed .
- 5/5
I eat pleased
- 5/5
Everyone at the front desk is so nice and have excellent customer service. Hotel is quiet and is super clean. Would highly recommend it.

We had issues with the heat and air the last 2 nights of the stay. The room became very warm at night but thought it was due to the hugh humidity and us being out all day. The room got up to 76 the last night we stayed and thats alittle too warm. We came from Texas to Chicago and everyone and everything was amazing

50 Stars for all the good things. To top it off, A Really Amazing Mexican Restaurant, Cocina De Maria was right down the street! The Best Mexican food & great pricing! (That really made it feel like Home) I recommend definitely Sonesta Suites! Great Location & Staff too. :) Thank you for making our stay Wonderful

The property was good for overall convenience yo the Navy base and food. However, they checked us innto a room that smelled really bad. We were able to get us a better room. On Saturday ir was out understanding that check out was at 11 am. So when housekeeping just decided to walk in at 8:30am with no courtesy knock or announcement, just disrespectful. The best part is I wull not have to return.

While I stay here because my jib is across the street, they are very money hunger. They charge for everything. Parking, late check out. Then there are pets everywhere. What about me a person that is allergic to cats and dogs. I ended up congested from the pet dander. Pets should not be allowed in hotels. This hotel adores animals. Treats in the lobby for your pets. Smh! I wish thisnot the case but it will be my last stay as I was there for 6 nights and was told it was only 5 and I jad to be there 7 days to have my room cleaned. A mess! If you need towels, they want you to put them in the basket and bring them down. No breakfast, coffee, water or tea available complimentary. There are toomany tools for cleaning bathrooms. Please find one and use it. Finding hair the bathroom is a big issue for me. I travel woth gloves and clorox wipes to clean again. Lastly, the kitchen drawers need to be cleaned immediately. I also left a remote in the room. To date, no one has called me. I just realized it as i was traveling for 2 weeks.

I stayed here with my partner to go to NYE Radiance & it was a fantastic choice. The rooms are very large, easy to get ready in. There’s a lot of table top surface, large bathroom & the little kitchen makes it perfect for a weekend stay. Very clean & the staff was extremely friendly!
