Reviews
Guests generally appreciate the cleanliness, comfort, and friendly staff at this hotel. The location is frequently praised for its proximity to local attractions and public transportation. However, the lack of an elevator and small room size are common complaints.
- Clean and comfortable rooms
- Friendly and helpful staff
- No elevator
- Small room size

The Chelsea Pines is a quirky, unique, and reasonably priced gem located within easy walking distance to The Whitney Museum, the Chelsea art galleries, the LIttle Island, great restaurants and more. It is not for everyone as there is no elevator for the 5 floors, and the rooms are oddly configured(each one is different) and small but for fans of the movie stars of yesteryear the many, many posters of the stars are worth it. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The furnishings are old and some could use replacing and the lovely courtyard foliage could use some pruning but overall our stay was great.
- 2/5
Las fotos mienten. El lugar no fue agradable. El cuarto y sus camas de lo peor. Te cobran si llegas antes del check in. No hay elevadores. La experiencia no fue agradable.
- 4/5
The staff is awesome — so friendly. The location couldn’t be better. Bed was comfortable. It’s a little noisy on the second floor for those of us who go to bed early but other than that I liked it and will be back.
- 5/5
Perfect location. Will be back!

A great little spot. Quiet and unique in the heart of Chelsea. Staff was always friendly and had great recommendations.
- 5/5
Was here for three nights! The room was perfect, the staff were super friendly and helpful, the bag holding option prior to check in was a plus, the patio was great for sitting in the mornings, and the stay overall was great. There was also always coffee brewed in the kitchen which was a huge plus.
- 4/5
This is a perfect location. The room was clean and exactly like the pictures. The outdoor space is great for in between enjoying the city.
- 3/5
What we didn’t like was our room was quite small, in fact at times claustrophobic with a tile chip on the bathroom floor that was never repaired after repeated requests. The toilet paper holder had a broken fixture to it. And finally, no area stations were available on our flat screen TV thus unable to watch the NBA playoffs. James was very thoughtful, making multiple attempts at accessing the stations by alternative means without success. The Inn was centrally located to a number of venues we sought to attend which was very good. Thus the reason for a “Fair” rating.
- 5/5
The hotel is great, but just remember, there’s no elevator. There’s an outdoor area and a lovely terrarium and small kitchen for snacks and drink drinks.
- 4/5
It was nice having two beds though the pillows were very full and firm which didn’t feel great on my neck. There are no cups from which to get water in the room but on the first floor they have a little kitchenette with mugs, glasses, dishes etc. They have coffee, tea, water and cocoa in that area but no continental breakfast. The hotel has no elevator so I wouldn’t recommend asking for an upper level room if you have heavy luggage to carry. There is a small courtyard beyond the kitchette area which has not been weeded or otherwise kept up but it could be a really cute place to sit and enjoy coffee. The hotel is in a great location, just steps from the nearest metro stop and good restaurants. The price was reasonable, especially for NYC.
- 3/5
I booked a Standard Room with 1 Double Bed but was "upgraded" to a Quadruple Room with a second bed. This made space tight for a solo traveler. The TV extends so far from the wall that I had to side-shimmy past it to avoid hitting my face. Looking at listing photos later, the second bed can be turned the other way. Pro-tip: don't treat this like a rigid hotel room—get creative and move the furniture if needed. Also, study room types before booking and verify the layout at check-in. At 6'1", the bed was short, leaving my feet hanging over the footboard. The room has a small TV, towels, and an outlet—just be careful with your fingers when plugging things in. The shower floor is a mosaic of peeling black paint and anti-slip tape. It keeps you guessing, but it gets the job done. Crucially, it was perfectly clean with zero bed bugs. The historic 1850s brownstone has no elevator. The hallways double as storage for giant laundry piles, forcing you to stay nimble past the vintage Hollywood posters. The common area kitchen has diner-style coffee pots, a handwritten sign for mugs, and board games. For recycling, you place bottles behind your door—just don't pile too much or you'll block yourself in.
- 4/5
Charming place with comfy bed and pillows. Although our room faces the street, traffic noise is minimal if you pull down the window blinds and draw the heavy curtains close. One gripe we had is the housekeeping - although we requested for it numerous times, our room was only cleaned 3 times in total in the 10 days we were here.
- 5/5
All around great experience coming back!
- 5/5
Such a cute space! Staff was amazing and front desk is always there too! The building has so much character and history. It is tidy and unique definitely recommend.
- 5/5
Great location on the Greenwich Village/West Village border. Subway to Brooklyn and midtown is super close. People at front desk were always super nice. Room was very nice - reminded me of European style room.
- 5/5
Will be back!

This is a great little hotel! Staff is present and available, and the location is perfect. Perfect spot.
- 4/5
All employees kind and incredibly helpful!!
- 3/5
There was barely enough space in the rest of the floor to lay down our roller bags. The bathroom was functional but very cramped. The AC was leaking and it took two days of complaining to get taken care of. The staircase is steep. If you’re on higher floors it’s a good workout if you’re up for it. If all you need is a place to crash at the end of the day, you’ll be ok. Location is the only positive attribute.
- 5/5
Fun decor and friendly staff! It was clean and surprisingly quiet.
- 5/5
Great stay in New York! The location was perfect and made it easy to get everywhere. The hotel was clean, comfortable, amicable staff, absolutely worth the price I paid. I would definitely stay here again.

Other than no elevator, was a nice stay
- 5/5
Great and funky hotel in an excellent location. They charge for holding your luggage, though, which I found a turn-off. Otherwise, it's a great value for Manhattan.
- 4/5
Cute concept, deco, and great location! Amazingly helpful and kind staff. Little things could be touched on. Air conditioner in window worked but the lovely heavy drapes covered it so we had to try to figure out how to drape drapes to sides to keep bright lights out at night. The beds were comfortable and we slept great. We had no bedside tables which could be easily added. The handle on the sink kept falling off, though the sink worked when it was on. Lack of hot water some mornings for showers. The Just an old building - but a great stay overall! Would definitely stay again!
- 1/5
No hot water. Shower door does not close properly. Garbage and laundry bags strewed in hallways. Cheap mattress. Cheap towels. No drinking glasses in room. No coffee. No phone in room. No notice that we had to climb 4 stories.
- 4/5
This is a find for budget conscious travelers. Best of all, the location is 5*. The movie themed hotel is an older building but quite nice, the rooms are clean and quiet (mine overlooked the back patio). The amenities are great (well appointed kitchen in the downstairs common area, cafe-style furniture in the back patio, AC and fan in the rooms, good quality towels and sheets) and the staff attentive. The only unusual feature is the lack of elevator and steep stair cases but the staff will offer to carry your luggage up for you. Overall, I recommend this place for its “budget” price, charm and spectacular location. Not luxurious but well appointed.
- 4/5
You can hear all the noises . From neighbors and housekeeping staff . Over all very good location and nicely upkeep .
- 5/5
Three of us stayed in the Deluxe Quadruple. There was plenty of room for privacy and for taking a work call while the others slept in the other room. No need for air conditioning--It was late April/early May.
- 5/5
Staff was super helpful and friendly. Exactly as expected. Great price, cool laid back vibe. Fantastic location.
- 1/5
I didn’t like because I left my medicine at the room’s refrigerator and check out after only 10 minutes that I left I noticed and called the hotel to have them save it for me but when I went back to pick up it was gone … monjaro medicine for my Diabetes, good cheese , imported chocolate bars everything gone except the ice they keep for me ????????

Good value and location. Nice common area for coffee and tea in the mornings. Has a common area back patio with ivy / trees, greenery, plus ample small tables and chairs. Probably best suited to younger, able-bodied people, as it is an old building and may require 5 flights of stairs to reach your room. You get lots of space for the price, 503 Rock Hudson room.

Staff rocked thet were helpful and attentive as needed.
- 4/5
Was displeased with original room, same type booked but seemed smaller. They moved me to a room that larger, so much better.
- 4/5
Nice location in Chelsea. However, be aware that the hotel has no elevator and 5 floors. We were on the 5th floor and it’s a hike.
- 3/5
Staff were great. Convenient to a lot. The bed was the worse bed we ever slept on and we travel a lot. Felt like sleeping on a box spring with no mattress which was rough with how much walking and steps you do. And no elevator and we was on 3rd floor
- 1/5
The room 305 on the 3rd floor is just awful. The bed is very old with springs protruding through the sheets. It’s a torture to sleep on this bed. The bed is also too short for a six foot tall person with your feet hitting a Mets frame. There is a strong draft of cold air coming from the window. The hotel is in a fantastic location. The staff are super nice.
- 5/5
Location was convenient. Staff were very friendly and professional. The room was comfortable and roomy.
- 1/5
This review is specifically about room 305. The mattress must be a hundred years old with springs protruding through the sheets that made it absolutely horrible. A simple $200 mattress topper could probably fix this problem. The bed is also a bit short for a six foot person. The headboard was against a window that had a window air conditioner with a lot of cold draft air coming in. The room is very narrow and small. This room is also on the third floor with no elevator. However, the staff was super nice, the property is clean and in a great location.
- 5/5
Really laid back, nice service and adorable property. So close to great stops!
- 5/5
Great private patio.
- 5/5
Great choice for a solo traveler. The room was like a cozy dorm with a comfortable bed and nice bathroom that was actually larger than some in pricier hotels. It’s nothing super fancy but it got the job done. There is a shared kitchen available and a little courtyard. The BEST thing is the location! Right next to a subway stop, CVS, and a short walk to things like the Chelsea Market, food/coffee, and the Whitney.

Loved the theme of the hotel, as well as the location! Right near the subway and Chelsea Market. I would say the hotel is secure and the staff is very helpful.

Cool hotel, would recommend

We rented the bottom floor. It was a fantastic place for our family. Basically a large studio apartment. Very spacious and conveniently located.
- 3/5
Altogether, it was not good value at $250/night.

Rating: 2/5 I chose this hotel because the location in Chelsea is unbeatable. It's perfectly situated for getting around Manhattan. However, I quickly realized that this property isn't designed for a business traveler's needs. First, be aware that this is a true walk-up. I was placed on the 5th floor (their highest) without an option to move, which is quite a haul after a long day of meetings. The property feels more like a youth hostel than a boutique hotel. It is no-frills and lacks the standard amenities and service you’d expect for a professional trip. The service was a pain point. When I needed to shorten my stay, I was given mixed messages by the staff despite providing a 4-day notice. Ultimately, they did not honor a shortened price, which was frustrating. The staff interactions in general were meh. Sufficient, but lacking any real hospitality or professionalism. If you're a student or a solo traveler looking for a clean, basic place to crash in a great neighborhood, this works. But if you're in town for business and looking for any level of standard hotel service, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. It was a mistake to book this for a professional setting.
- 5/5
My stay at Chelsea Pines was exceptional in every way! Everyone working at the front desk (particularly Donny and Luis) was kind, helpful, and went out of their way to make my stay lovely from start to finish. It was ideally located across the street from the subway (and great pizza!). The hotel was clean, well maintained, with delicious coffee, tea, and hot chocolate available all day in the back kitchen. It has a cute Hollywood icon motif as well. I unreservedly recommend this hotel and would most definitely stay here again for another NYC trip!
- 5/5
The location was convenient for walking and to get to preferred public transportation. The room was clean and comfortable. No elevator but if healthy enough to take stairs the climb was doable and not too bad. Staff was helpful and friendly. Check-in is done online only. I definitely recommend and plan to stay again!

Overall a great stay. Only issue I had was that it was a bit chilly and I couldn’t find thermostat to get heat.
- 4/5
Great location for Chelsea West Village area.

Didn’t like not having control of AC. Also the room only had ONE outlet which was insane. Other than that everything was clean, the front desk worker James I think, was incredible.

The staff were the best part of my stay. They helped me with my luggage without asking. They were courteous and had great energy. The room is cozy, clean and was perfect for my stay. I would have stayed longer had they had the availability.

This property has a cool, old Hollywood theme. Rooms are mostly clean and if you're not happy with the cleanliness, the staff are super prompt with any requests. Its near a variety of restaurants (including a vegan restaurant), a hot yoga studio (totally my thing, maybe its yours too) and its a 5 minute walk from the Chelsea market!
- 5/5
Right next to the venue for the concert I went to and all kinda of restaurants to choose from.
- 3/5
In a good area. Rooms were fine, nothing special. Really more of a place to sleep and nothing else. Shower was cold. Recycling was still left in my room behind door from previous stay.
- 5/5
Absolutely charming gem with wonderful staff and great amenities. Incredible decorating featuring wall art commemorating the Golden Age of Hollywood Cinema with posters and advertisements for classic American films and rooms named for cinema icons. Wonderful place!

The staff were great and also wished me a great day when I left to explore the city. I felt very safe staying at the hotel the entire time. The room was clean, I think the floors could have been mopped a bit better, but it did not detract from my stay. One of the downsides is it can get quite noisy in the hallway because the doors are quite thin.
- 3/5
Great little hotel. Wonderful front desk staff. Safe neighbourhood. Loved the communal kitchen and atrium area. But no elevator and every little thing is an extra $25-60 USD. For example, lower floor room because of disability = $25 extra. 1hr later check out, =$25., etc.

A great hidden gem in the middle of Manhattan. Fun, movie-, and actor-themed rooms with true character set the mood for a fabulous time in the city. Clean, quiet and spacious rooms with modern bathrooms. All that you need for a convenient and comfortable overnight stay in the Big Apple. Very nice staff members provide put the gold leaf around it with a warm welcome and kindness. I can’t wait to be back.
- 4.5/5
I really liked the hospitality, the kitchen/lounge area was very welcoming. The coffee available was great in the mornings. The only thing we didnt like was going up 5 flights of stairs to get to our room. It was a daily work out!
- 5/5
Excellent place in the city, near subway and awesome restaurants. We will be back
- 3.5/5
The comfort. I forgot a pair of sandals. They said they didn’t find them.
- 5/5
Staff was accommodating, politce, nice & welcoming. Only thing I wish is if there was a heater to control the temp. There were a couple of fans + AC in the room so I figured that room might get scorching hot during Summer months. I stayed here in Winter.
- 1/5
The bed was the most uncomfortable mattress I’ve ever slept on. They did don’t have coffee available in the morning because they ran out of coffee grounds. It’s New York, just walk across the street and buy some more coffee. Staff was nice but otherwise this was the worst hotel experience of my life.
- 4/5
Great location. Super clean, lovely helpful staff. Good to have the use of the dining kitchen & facilities along with a fridge in the bedroom. Our bedrooms faced on the street and were a little noisy. Ear plugs worked well.
- 3/5
Clean room and building in a great location but the noise from street and building are unacceptable. By now the hotel should have replaced the windows with city quiet windows which are very common now in NYC at a minimal cost to overall business.
- 5/5
Many shops. Very walkable area. Staff were great. Would stay again
- 5/5
Stayed in the Suite on ground floor. Spacious. Great for my family of 5. Bathroom was spacious also. Glad to have a fridge. There are steps, which were fine for us, but might be an issue if you are mobility impaired. Great neighborhood, close to subway, deli, and CVS. Will definitely stay here again. Great value in Manhattan.
- 4/5
I’ll start with the good which is the staff and location. Everyone was so polite and hospitable. The location is in a safe neighborhood with everything you need in walking distance. The not so good is the actual room. We were on the first floor, first room next to the check in desk. The room was very hot. It has a window unit air conditioner but it only blows cool air not cold air. The staff visit our room 3-4 times to try and adjust the heat but it never worked. It was cold outside but the heat was too much in the room. They did give me a fan but that really didn’t help. As soon as you walked in the room it felt suffocating. Also, the shower didn’t have sufficient hot water. The hot/warm water lasted 2 minutes tops then it ran cold. So I left the door open for the hot air to blow in the bathroom while taking a shower. I discussed all of this with the staff but there wasn’t anything they could do. I was told the heat is probably due to the boiler room being right below our room. With all that said, the rest of my family stayed on the second floor and staff was able to adjust their air where it stayed nice and cool. I would stay again but not on the first floor.
- 4/5
Staff was great, very accommodating! Good location, near the subway, buses.
- 2/5
We had a larger group of girls stay in the deluxe studio and got charged $500 for having 2 additional guests. There was lack of cots, pillows, blankets to accommodate for the extra guests even though that was included with the extra fee. The extra blanket/comforter they provided had white stains on them and did not appear to be clean. The doors to the outside patio did not lock which is very concerning for young girls to be staying there. The room and bathroom were very spacious and overall we enjoyed our weekend. It is a good location!
- 5/5
Great location and we liked being on the first floor
- 5/5
Room was clean. Staff was excellent.
- 3/5
Staff was courteous. The room was in OK condition and generally sparse for a bougie hotel. The lock on the door was not yet replaced and was still a keypad and felt like it was gonna open if somebody pushed it a little harder than normal.. There’s no elevator, but I was fortunately on the second floor. They were very helpful in adding another couple of nights for me on the fly and it was convenient to my work location. The bed was OK comfortable because it was just a single mattress and the room is narrow so it’s hard to get around either side. The heater is a radiator and worked OK with the temperatures in the 20s. Not sure if I’d stay here again or not. The average price per night was $457.
- 5/5
Clean room. Friendly staff
- 5/5
Staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
- 3/5
Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was clean. We needed a cheap and clean room for 1 night and CPI met the need.
- 3.5/5
Great location with good proximity to subway station. No tea/coffee making facility in the room. Unbearably hot on the first evening, which was addressed the next morning by a very helpful staff member.
- 5/5
Chelsea Pines Inn offered a clean, cost-efficient place to stay in a great neighborhood! It's nothing fancy, but the staff (Duane and Jonathan specifically!) were helpful and kind. Beds were comfy, and everything was clean. Would stay again!
- 5/5
everything was great except room needed a cup or glass for water drinking
- 4/5
Staff so friendly, just having an elderly mother with bad knees made it so difficult to climb the stairs. I tried to request ground floor when I booked in July.
- 5/5
Very nice, very friendly and helpful staff, lack of elevator not much a problem
- 4/5
Room/bathroom were clean and accommodating despite being very small. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Location is great.
- 3/5
NOTE - THIS IS A WALKUP AND IT IS NOT AS "EASY" GOING UP AND DOWN AS YOU THINK!!!!! The location is great with access to the metro which is located on the same block. Easy access to the gay bars and excellent restaurants. I would not book again but hope this feedback provides you with insight into your travels.
- 4/5
Very clean, crisp comfortable sheets, modern bathroom. It satisfied all our needs for a weekend in the city. For older clients, walkup could be trenuous.
- 5/5
Everything was great.,
- 5/5
We could hardly believe the size, comfort and quality of the (basement-level) triple studio suite, a 1200-square-foot room that easily housed three adults (could have held 4-5). Its full (and stocked) kitchen, tons of natural light and easy access to the back patio made it feel more like an AirBnB condo than like a hotel; we could have gone grocery shopping and stayed there for weeks. Ahead of our stay, staff answered our phone calls whenever we had a question about the facility. We liked that the Chelsea Pines had a secure entrance and 24/7 front-desk staff. Our only negative was that we had a difficult time controlling the hot water. Bathroom sinks and the shower would often go from cold to scalding hot; it took us awhile to get the right temperature. Otherwise, we loved everything else about our stay at Chelsea Pines Inn. An exceptional find in a terrific neighborhood! All three of our group would stay here again in an instant.
- 5/5
Great place. Would absolutely stay there again
- 5/5
This studio apartment exceeded expectations for my family of 5. Kids could spread out and we could dine in because of the full kitchen and dining table. We will stay here again!
- 5/5
This is a cute little hotel! Like the Hollywood theming. Room was very clean and smelled fresh. Bed was super comfortable. Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Location was great as I was attending a show at City Winery. I had a room in the 5th floor and yes it’s a hike up the stairs but I wouldn’t let it stop you, just take a break between floors if you need to. My only improvement comment would be to have real half and half creamer. Will stay again!
- 4/5
Overall we had a good stay. Clean room and bathroom and staff were very friendly. Also great location! Right next to a subway and close to Chelsea Market and Little Island. My only concern was the AC was not working during our stay, not a huge deal as it was fall and we were able to use the fan provided.
- 1/5
No elevator: that should be listed!
- 4/5
Great older property but quaint. Subway entrance across street so very convenient. I enjoyed the little tea bar they had out. Staff was very kind and attentive to any requests I had. Great group of people. Would stay again
- 3/5
Location Staff Service- one room was not ready at check in & they gave us a later check out time. One of our rooms was next to public restroom. We could hear guests outside our door accessing the bathroom. One of our rooms had a very odd set up- with access to the shower directly in room. Literally the shower door was next to bed. The toilet & sink were in a separate room. This should have been noted when I booked.

Quick disclaimer: there are no elevators! We had to take the stairs to our fourth-floor room, which we found amusing.

Very large rooms! I was on the 5th floor of the walk up which was challenging because of a bad hip.

The location is great and staff very friendly. Quaint historical hotel. It can be a little noisy at night when people come back to their rooms. We had 2 beds in our room, a twin bed and a double bed. The double bed needs a new mattress - luckily we could put only one person on the double bed.
- 5/5
The staff was excellent from check-in, front desk, room cleaning and a daily needs. The Chelsea Inn isn’t fancy which is why I liked it and I could stay here again.
- 1/5
The room was disappointing — it felt like an old basement apartment and was not clean. There was a back door leading to an outdoor area that did not lock, which raised safety concerns. After waiting for the hotel to address the issue without success, I ended up leaving and booking another room elsewhere. Management was not accommodating or willing to offer a refund. I book rooms weekly for travel, and this was one of the worst experiences I’ve had. I would not recommend staying here.
- 1/5
No A/C the second night and then the fan they gave us as a to help didn’t work. We asked them about moving rooms or getting another fan and they had nothing available. We told them we’d be contacting management for a partial refund because the room was unbearably hot and they said someone would get back with us and never did.

I really appreciated finding this treasure in the heart of Chelsea. It was an older walk-up, but CHARMED up for sure. I stayed in the Tony Curtis "suite" -- movie posters galore -- it was a nice touch. The bed was comfortable; great water pressure in the shower, and the staff at the front desk was friendly and attentive. Appreciated my stay at Chelsea Pines in for sure -- and would book again if in the area for personal reasons!

A space around the air conditioner in the window was closed with paper and duct tape. My room had a window facing 14th Street, it was too noisy and I could not sleep a bit. A ceiling light was burned out, the other was about to burned out, it was flickering. The temperature control of the shower was broken. The staff was couteous. Conveniently located. Shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and soap were nice.
- 5/5
Super friendly service, clean hotel, great location. Rooms are tight, but it’s Nee York.
- 4/5
Loved the efficiency of all of it, and the building was very quiet, but not for the faint of heart. There's no elevator and the stairs are very steep. Generally whole place was impressively clean but the filter on the sink faucet was filthy, and the TV very poor, but great location and I'd definitely stay there again.
- 5/5
Everything was excellent except I didn’t realize it was a five story walk up. Other than that, everything was wonderful excellent location.
- 5/5
Great staff
- 2/5
Looks nothing like the pictures and the rates they change are totally unacceptable for the condition of this property. It feels like a motel. They put us in 506, the 5th floor with no elevator. Walls were dirty, the room had a bad smell, curtains were dingy, bed tiny, sunken in and made so much noise. They moved us to another room which was a small improvement but on the street with a lot of noise. Would not recommend
- 5/5
To start off, the staff was patient and attentive to whatever I needed.the room itself is cozy in a good way and I had no issues at all.
- 4/5
Best thing was location.
- 5/5
This is my go-to place whenever I visit my daughter in NYC. The hotel is not fancy but you will have everything you need. The location is excellent, right near a subway line that will get you almost anywhere in the city. The front desk staff and other employees are very friendly. There is a lovely garden with a sitting area in the back. But be prepared for your room to be on any floor-it is a walk up! The staff will help you up and down with your luggage if you request it. If you need a nice place to rest your head in NYC this is it!
- 5/5
It’s a very secure building, you have to be buzzed in to enter. The staff was very friendly. The property was very clean and perfect for our short stay. I would stay here again.
- 5/5
The Inn was very nice. The neighborhood was fantastic and you were within a couple blocks of any train you would want to get on in the city. We stayed a total of 4 nights and can honestly say, it was a cute little hotel.
- 2/5
No facilities, over priced, poor strate of repair and the cleaning staff also left my room door wide open for the whole day!
- 5/5
Great location, clean room, very friendly and helpful staff!
- 5/5
Great staff - helpful, easy walkable neighborhood,
- 3/5
Cute place to stay in the city. I loved the old Hollywood posters and dressing room door look to each room. It was perfectly convenient to everything but not in a wildly busy area. I didn’t pay attention to the description that it did not have an elevator. I did get a great workout climbing up to the 5th floor! I would stay again.
- 4/5
Great beds. A little tight as far as space—for what it costs.
- 4/5
I’ve stayed in a few different hotels in nyc, some nicer, some worse. The staff was great! The hotel itself is old, but charming. It was a solid stay, but nothing that would say I’m never going to stay there again or, for that, avoid in the future
- 5/5
Very close to subway lots of nearby restaurants
- 5/5
I enjoyed my stay and plan to return this winter. The staff was so nice and very helpful. My room was clean, quiet and perfect!
- 5/5
It was close to multiple places
- 5/5
The property was very quaint and nostalgic. Easy access to the subway and many walkable restaurants. Pet friendly to cats. Love our time even if the parking was horrible.
- 5/5
Nicely decorated even if a bit quirky
- 5/5
Excellent staff, very kind and helpful. Fantastic location, easy to get around. Very clean, fun, Hollywood star themed rooms.
- 5/5
The room was clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. Note that there is no elevator on the property though.
- 3/5
I asked for a microwave and freezer and did not get either. They said it was available on their website.
- 4/5
We really loved the Chelsea Pines Inn. We were on the 5th floor-no elevator- and that was fine. A good work out. The pack patio was a nice place to hang on warm summer evenings. The AC in the room works great and is not too loud. It's obviously less expensive than The Ritz, so don't go there expecting The Ritz. the staff were all SUPER nice. Some of the language on their website comes off a little off-putting, but nobody there treats you that way. We would stay there again, for sure.
- 4/5
Excellent staff, great location, lovely little courtyard to escape the city!
- 4/5
Convenient for a quick solo trip. Nothing to write home about
- 5/5
Great location and really appreciated the free upgrade! It was a nice big room with lots of light. Thank you :)
- 4/5
Bed was comfortable and private- great food options at Chelsea Market
- 5/5
I did not like the four story walk-up. The backyard patio was great for relaxing. All of Chelsea and West Village are steps away. Great choice.
- 5/5
Great property in great location for a good price. Rooms and beds are small, but clean and cozy. Would stay again.
- 3/5
Would have been nice if I was notified about no elevators before I confirmed my reservation not afterwards.
- 2/5
Hotel needs a serious renovation
- 3/5
Clean rooms, good staff, A/C isn’t the best, no elevator.
- 5/5
Great decor and facilities! Nice that there was cold juice and water in the kitchen, and staff were friendly.
- 5/5
Great location
- 3/5
Bare bones in good location
- 5/5
Great location
- 5/5
We had a great stay. Staff was nice and accommodating.
- 5/5
Very good hospitality place , five stars
- 5/5
Awesome location near Chelsea Market.
- 5/5
Perfect for exploring NYC and many bars local on doorstep
- 3/5
While dog friendly, they charge $50 per pet per night. I’m not sure why. They provide no services or amenities. They have a back patio that is in desperate need of attention. Coffee and tea in the morning was good.
- 5/5
The shower head was broken and water was coming out the pipes from opposite side. The comforter had pink stains on it. The floor I was on was so inconvenient because I have asthma and no one accommodated my requests to be on first or second floor instead I was places on 4th floor. The room I was in was very noisy couldn’t get any good rest. The only thing that was great about my stay was the night staff.
- 5/5
Efficient and reasonable price. Small but clean.
- 5/5
The staff were absolutely amazing that the decor harkens to a different time and it’s in a great central location. Highly recommend the hotel. Just be aware they don’t have an elevator so if you’re on the fifth floor, it means climbing some stairs, but the staff is happy to help. And we can all use the extra steps.
- 5/5
Great location! Staff very helpful w directions, recommendations, etc. Nice spot (indoor/outdoor) to have a cup of coffee, read, relax.
- 1/5
Horrible property.
- 5/5
Perfect for what I needed for a solo work trip.
- 5/5
Very convenient location to all of Manhattan. Lots of restaurants and the subway nearby. Staff is very friendly.
- 4/5
Easy and convenient!
- 5/5
Superb location, staff and facilities.
- 2/5
Desk had not been cleaned between customers, see jam stains in photo below. Lights in bathroom were broken. Th two corresponding photos show the switches in both possible positions and the lights off in both cases.
- 5/5
The location is excellent, the staff is very friendly. The area around has lots of places for groceries, quick bites, restaurants, coffee. Very practical location, close to a metro and bus station. The common kitchen is well equipped, there is a little garden in the back.
- 5/5
Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Outdoor patio was peaceful. Excellent dining options and an easy walk to beautiful views on the water. Half a block to the subway. I will come back my next time in NYC!
- 5/5
Great hotel and not too bad of a walk up
- 5/5
Very hospitable, clean, near public transportation
- 5/5
Great location and friendly helpful staff day and night!
- 2/5
old wrecked place
- 5/5
The hotel accommodated our request for a low floor and the front desk staff was friendly and helpful! The location was great!
- 5/5
All great!
- 5/5
Had a great stay, can’t wait to come back. James at the front desk was wonderful!!! Thank you!
- 5/5
I love the classic old style. It’s basic but stylish and has everything I need! Price is fantastic

Great location for this historic inn. Staff were very helpful. Being picky, I would wish for a luggage rack in our room & for the floor not to have been somewhat sticky. But that being said, we would stay there again.
- 5/5
Very cute hotel in a nice area. Competent staff. I enjoyed my stay.
- 5/5
Very comforting
- 4/5
Great location, clean, great staff.
- 4/5
Our stay was very pleasant; the room met requirements for sleeping, and while it was tiny, the hotel has a nice outside space in back for air and relaxation Perfect location. Had what we needed. Coffee available in the morning. Safe neighborhood with all amenities. I’d stay here again and bet there are even smaller rooms for more money nearby, so also “a deal”.
- 4/5
I don’t go for fancy hotels when I don’t spend much time in the room but cleanliness is important. There’s no elevator so I was a little worried about hauling my suitcase up but I was only in the second floor and they’re short floors. Bed was comfy. Good water pressure in the shower and the sink looked new. A luggage rack might’ve been nice but I ended up using the chair. I thought the water and cold drinks were a nice touch and refreshing after a warm day of walking around the city. It can be a little loud as noise travels in the hallways but overall a good stay.
- 5/5
Extremely convenient location, just steps from the subway station. Easy to get to Times Square and Union Square. Take-out close by. Very friendly staff, coffee/tea available every morning.
- 3/5
Good location. Hotel staff was friendly. The rooms were small and a bit out if date. Also I had not realised when I booked that the hotel was a walk up and had no elevator. Dragging my bag up 5 flights was tough.
- 3/5
We were the quintessential tourists & so we were hardly in our room. The room was minimal and the bathroom very small but it did the job. I know NY buildings are old & it seemed like it could use a freshen up but overall it was fine, we liked the central location.
- 5/5
Short stay, perfect efficient polite check-in, checkout. Staff is 100% helpful, will repeat for sure.
- 5/5
Had such a good time. Was quiet and so easy, great price too.
- 4/5
This no frills property in a short walk to the Highline and Chelsea Market. Great shopping and coffee shops in the area. The rooms were small but clean.
- 5/5
Comfortable stay, great location for getting around NYC on foot.
- 3/5
There was no wifi, our key cards kept demagnetizing and cleaning ignored a dnd door sign, but everything was clean and property was quaint and nice.
- 5/5
Great spot
- 2/5
No
- 4/5
The WiFi wasn’t working during our stay, so watching TV wasn’t an option. Our first night was noisy with other guests being loud and doors slamming late into the evening. We had read that earplugs were available upon request, but unfortunately, they were out when we asked. Coffee in the morning didn’t start until 7 AM, which was a bit late for us since we were attending an early class and had to head out before then. Housekeeping came around 5 PM on our first day—after we were already back and exhausted from class—so we just asked for fresh towels instead. All in all, despite a few hiccups, we really enjoyed our stay and appreciated the effort of the staff. With a few small adjustments, this place would be even better.
- 4/5
nice place, room is elementary, small, very noisy
- 3/5
Staff were helpful. Excessive stairs and small room made it less than comfortable. Location great. Would stay again but specify second floor room.
- 5/5
I will definitely be back.
- 4/5
5 floors, no elevator. Cute and not crowded, but no amenities, no coffee, no cable, no thermstat, no vendong machine - so if you like quaint and hip, its perfect and if you like Hyatt Express, stay at the chain.
- 5/5
I liked the vintage pictures on the walls
- 4/5
This was our first time staying in this section of New York city. We absolutely loved the location - near public transport, walking distance to a lot of great cafes and restaurants, and quiet at night. The only issue we had was that our room was on the 5th floor and it was very hard going up the stairs multiple times a day. Next time we'll ask for a room on the lower floors.
- 3/5
This is a cute hotel and the vintage movie theme is neat. However, if you like the amenities of a Hyatt Express - this is not the hotel for you. You could be on the 5th floor with no elevator. There's no coffee after 10 AM, no cable, no vending machine. On the positive side, it's extremely quiet- they have a tiny seating area and no one was ever there. And the people who work at the front desk rock - they are the nicest people, not customer service robots, just genuinely nice people.
- 5/5
Lovely hotel. Well located just a couple of blocks from the West Village. James at the front desk was incredibly kind and helpful.
- 5/5
Friendly staff clean facility wonderful area with a lot of attractions
- 4/5
Nice little hotel with an old school Hollywood vibe. The opposite of a cookie cutter chain hotel. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Mine was overlooking the garden area so very quiet.
- 5/5
Exactly what we expected for the price point. Our bed was so comfy & everything was very clean!
- 5/5
close to 8th ave. parking garage close by.we were on 5th floor. 73 steps up. 73 steps down.good cardio workout !!
- 1/5
Cockroaches on be floor and place was not clean
- 3/5
Fantastic location close to Chelsea market and walking distance to West Village. Building is on older side with steep walk up stairs. Older travelers be wary. Beds are way too soft and uncomfortable. Your mileage may vary. Would probably pay more to stay in same location for more modern hotel next time.
- 5/5
Donny was super helpful as we were checking, in and the luggage service was perfect for our needs. The rooms are older, but tidy.
- 5/5
Great location, one block from subway. Clean, bright, cozy room. Good, strong morning coffee in fully equipped kitchen, sweet courtyard in back.
- 5/5
.
- 5/5
Great value and comfortable. Gracious staff.
- 5/5
Staff, location and clean cozy place.
- 5/5
Perfect stay in Chelsea
- 3/5
The location was terrific but those steps. We were on the 4th floor and definitely limited the trips up and down.
- 4/5
Chelsea pines was a nice inn with very kind staff! They were a great help, especially Madison and the man who helped me on the phone. I do think the stairs are a lot if you’re on a higher floor and there was a bit of a smell from the disinfectant they were using, but that’s how you know it was clean! For the price and no-nonsense, it was a good place to sleep after walking and subway-ing manhattan on my solo trip!
