I stayed at this hostel last year so knew what to expect. There's a lot to like about this place, the facilities are great such as the kitchen which can accommodate a few people at a time so no waiting around. Lots of places to sit and relax on the ground floor and basement, plenty of space to eat and socialise and the pool table always seems to be busy! There's an onsite laundry and you can buy detergent (as well as a few other items) from the self-serve in the reception area. Staff are always on hand to help out although sometimes there's a queue but it's a busy hostel. It's a good location, close to the subway (red line 1, get off at 103rd St/Broadway) and only a few minutes to Central Park. The dorms are great and the bed is super comfy with decent bedding. I love the privacy curtains and it's handy to have a shelf with sockets for recharging and a light for reading. Each bed has it's own locker and I really appreciated the shelf, hooks and light that comes on when opening the door. The bathrooms are clean with a couple of shower stalls and toilets. I appreciated a gender-neutral bathroom, generally a bit cleaner than the women only bathrooms. I felt safe in the hostel and will definitely be back! Not much to complain about, I didn't have any issues during my stay.

I stayed at your hostel about 30 years ago. I kept it in a good memory, and so I did not search elsewhere. Another girl in the room complained about the high cost of travelling in N.Y. and told me that she booked the hostel two weeks prior and paid 74$ (including an unknown charge of 14$) for a bed in the same 4-bed room. One evening, I heard a man checking in, paying $82, and staying at the hostel for the first time without a prior reservation. I stayed for 4 nights and paid 116$ per night. It was non-refundable and had to be paid on 12 Jan. 2026. More than 1 month prior to my arrival I requested a cancellation of the 4th night as I had to be in the cruise port in Philadelphia a lot earlier than initially stated. Thus, I would have to leave too early in the morning. However, the hostel declined to cancel the fourth night. (A room at the hotel near Philadelphia airport would cost me 120$, and included a private bathroom). As I realised that I had overpaid at least 40$ per night. Apart from this, a bed prepaid 5 months earlier should be a lot cheaper because of the early booking and payment. I was very upset. HI hostels is a charitable and a non-for-profit organization. I have already asked for cancellations through booking.com and it was granted by the hotel in spite of a non-cancellation clause. Also, I do not see that I should pay more to booking.com, as they always claim to offer the same price.

The location is a bit outside of the Midtown bubble, where a lot of the action is—but it's not bad: a 14-minute ride on the 1 train from Times Square. The area is quieter than Midtown, but still lively. Safe and young and, of course, close to the NW corner of Central Park. The hostel caters mostly, it seems, to European travelers, which is great. It's not high-end by any means, but it's at the high end of hostels. The clientele is generally not sketchy, and the facilities are, generally speaking, really well-maintained. It's a huge structure with tons of bedrooms and bathrooms, and guests are usually very respectful of one another and of the shared spaces. My in-room locker was on the other side of the room from my bed, inexplicably. (Most lockers are right next to their assigned beds. So I just stored all of my gear (a backpack, really) IN my bedspace. The headboard had some nutshells on it, which means it wasn't wiped down thoroughly after the previous guest, but it could have been worse.

This is New York, so the HI New York is a budget option but at New York prices. IMO, worth it for a clean and safe place to stay in Manhattan. Yes, you're pretty far uptown but there is a subway stop a block away and an express subway stop a few blocks away. The bed was comfortable and our room was quiet despite facing the street. The bathroom was also clean and well maintained. The hostel has several lounge areas and an outdoor patio. If you're looking to cook in order to save money, there is a huge kitchen downstairs with everything you need. There is also a cafe on site and they sell snacks 24/7. But this is NYC, so markets and cafes are nearby. The hostel offers lots of activities which I didn't have a chance to join. The hostel seems like a great place to meet fellow travelers. The front door staff are very friendly. I've always wanted to stay at the HI in New York, so I guess dream accomplished.

The only positive thing about the hostel was Margoth from housekeeping. She helped me much more than the reception staff did. I hope you can increase her salary because she does an excellent job. Let's start with the fact that I was robbed, and nobody at reception helped me review the security camera footage. On top of that, the windows in the room couldn't be opened, and there were two sick girls staying in my room, so I had to breathe in all their germs. The bathroom is tiny, and you have to share it with 200 people on the same floor. The elevator is from the Paleozoic era, so every time you need to go back to your room to grab something, expect it to take at least 30 minutes. They also advertise a lot of "FREE" activities that simply don't exist. Don't waste your time trying to attend any of these classes, they never actually happen. The construction noise was the final straw for me. Every time I tried to relax in the common area, there was drilling noise everywhere.

Clean place, helpful staff, good option for long or short stays. The beds are comfortable, and the showers too (the toilet are a bit on the small side, but nothing major). Rooms have a locker, AC and heater. It has a cafeteria in the lobby and a new bar for guests. Study room, kitchen, laundry and other spaces are available for guests. Check in or check out processes are very smooth, and luggage storage is available.

The staff is friendly, the location is good and the rooms and bathroom are very clean. The bed is comfortable, it has light and a charging station. I recommend it without a doubt. I will definitely comeback. I didn't like that they charge me for keeping my luggage a few hours on the day of check out.

Very clean space, prompt incredibly friendly service and great location. This is maybe my 6th time choosing this property. I always trust the quality and know what to expect. The new locker system for luggage is a bit challenging. The locks are battery powered and if the battery looses power your items are stuck in the locker until maintenance can be called to manually open the locker. The staff have no fault here, they were very quick to help me by calling maintenance and were able to get my locker opened within about 20 minutes. I think management could support the staff better by making different choices for the lock mechanisms.

You can't really beat the value you're getting. Great location, easily accessible to midtown, modern well maintained facilities and plenty of wandering room into other areas of the property to work or relax. The only thing I can think of was the fact that one of the other guests in the room was snoring, but with a few other people in the same room, I suppose that's bound to happen. It wasn't that big a deal.

Loved all of the different social lounges, especially the NYC bar. The kitchen was also really nice! The women’s bathroom was really stuffy, I wish there was AC or a fan running in there.

This is about as good as a hostel gets. The hostel is very clean and professional, and the bunks are comfortable, each with its own curtain, light, and outlet. Each bunk also comes with its own locker with a motion-activated light, which is great for keeping belongings safe and gathering everything quietly in the evening or early morning. There’s AC in the room, and it’s very close to a subway station - just a quick ride from Penn Station. There are also lots of facilities, including a lounge, café, and several nice common spaces. I didn’t stay long because I had to leave unexpectedly in the middle of the night for unrelated reasons, but otherwise the stay was perfect.

Location was handy ... reachable within train stations...both ways out and to city. I stayed at female dorm and was stinky all the time... perhaps encourages traveles to leave shoes at lockers or have a designated area for shoes...or just house keeping to spray some fresh air .

Despite not being super central compared to other hotels, I liked the location of the hotel. It is very easy to reach it via the 1 line, and from there getting to all attractions connecting to other subway lines. The common spaces are very welcoming and tidy, and there is a mini market inside, that is manned and has food, snacks, coffee, and anything that may be needed during the stay. I specially liked the fact that there are lockers that can be rented after checkout to store bags: instead of putting all the bags in a common area and in the open, the fact that I could actually lock my bags and keep them safe while I was out for the day was really good. The room was clean and tidy, and the bed was very comfortable. I appreciated the shades on the bed, which give both privacy and keep the bed dark at night, especially if the other prople in the room leave the lights on in the evening/morning Compared to other hostels there were a lot of young children. I think they were part of school trips (there were adults following them), which isn't a big deal in itself, but it is unusual for a hostel in my experience.

I liked the location since it is a short walk from the subway (#1 line) and also close to the M60 bus line. It is also close to Central Park. I liked the staff. Very courteous, helpful and kind. I liked the facilities. The amenities were convenient and the hostel has a comfortable vibe. On site kitchen, laundry, and cafe were appreciated. The outside rear patio and lounge areas inside provide comfortable places to relax and socialize. I would have liked better shower heads in the shower stalls.

Everything! The lockers are awesome with the USB and power ports and the motion sensor light, plus the light rail above each bed. Plus, I had forgotten my soap, but no worries there is a body and hair soap dispenser in each shower. I was in town for work and this was the perfect place to stay. Cannot think of anything! I am coming back.

Overall I had a good stay. But there was a strange noise coming from above our room at night, which sounded like someone fighting or jumping around. It happens both nights of our stay

It's a good experience to stay in this hostel, it was good and people are nice, the place is clean and cozy stay, the location is very convenient and the staff are friendly. I don't think I have a very high expectation on what I like or dislike, it is quite reasonable with all I get base on what I afford to pay.

It was the best location and value to be found in NYC. The rooms were spacious, large bathrooms, kitchen, common spaces. Never felt cramped depaite 750 people capacity. None of the windows open, there’s is good quality AC but you can start to miss natural ventilation.

This was my second stay here and sadly not as great. The first night the rooms heater was on during a heat wave and it was horribly uncomfortable. I checked with the front desk and they helped me get it adjusted. There was also a maintenance guy doing work with a drill late at night in the room which was odd. The people I shared my room with were incredibly noisy and would talk on speaker phone late into the night and super early in the morning. The room smelled, that being more on the occupants than the cleaners. The bathroom was pretty gross on a regular basis and the showers had almost no water pressure. The men’s room across from my room was closed so maybe it was from so many people using the one facility. The staff were great and the shared spaces elsewhere in the building were nice. I would stay here again, just maybe in a smaller capacity room.

Staff are great, a/c was working this visit. (yay!) There were several young women who turned the overhead light on and conversed loudly after midnight. That’s the only thing that made this visit four stars instead of five.

A great hidden gem especially for those traveling on a budget. NYC has great restaurants but that can get expensive so the cooking facilities are a tremendous asset. The patio, bar/ lounge, pool table are all great amenities

It's more than a comfortable bed and great shower, with often nice company. There are great tours to take and now there is also a bar for those who like a drink. The bus stops virtually outside from Penn or Central station and if you go over a block you can get a bus to Times Square or in the opposite direction to Harlem. Enjoy your stay whether you are a solo traveller or a family.

The most important thing that stood out was the early check-in. My flight arrived at 2 AM in New Jersey. I took a train into Manhattan. Walked around for a bit, but around 9 AM. I decided to give up and try for an early check-in. I was greeted nicely and welcomed, and was allowed to check in and get some sleep.

Overall, good stay. The common areas are nice but the rooms are a bit worn down. The room temperature consistently fluctuates - I didn’t expect to be sweating in NYC in Jan. The beds are also pretty flimsy. If the person on the top bunk moved at all, my bottom bunk would rock back and forth keeping me awake (I am a light sleeper). Bathrooms were pretty decent as well. Location was great! Right by the subway

I really appreciate this place. Super clean and easy if you are on a budget. Only reason for 4 stars is because one of the bunk mates in my room kept her light on all night, keeping everyone tossing and turning. I recommend earplugs and sleep mask if you plan to stay here. It’s fantastic but you never know who you end up with in your room.

Cons: The room was very cold. You need a plank under the mattress so that the bed doesn't slop so much. Lockers need a rod with a hanger or two because you are living out of a suitcase on the floor is quite literal here. Our room floor was not clean.

The front desk service was great, and the bunk setup was the best I've ever seen at a hostel (with the one issue that the outlets weren't right for my laptop power cord).

I loved this stay so much. There’s a subway station less than 2 blocks away and it made getting around so much easier. Lots of great food options nearby. Staff was great and super friendly. Very clean (rooms and bathrooms as well as common areas). Will definitely come back here when I come back to New York!

The hostel’s location is excellent—just one block from Broadway, about a 10-minute walk to Central Park, and close to the subway. There are plenty of cafés and restaurants within walking distance, which made exploring the neighborhood easy and fun. I also joined one of their weekly events, which was a great way to meet new friends and make memories, even though the venue was a bit farther away. There was some construction inside the hostel, but it didn’t interfere with my stay at all. I didn’t use the kitchen, but overall, I highly recommend this hostel for anyone looking for a clean, friendly, and well-situated place to stay in uptown New York.

Clean bed and bedroom. Your roommates, well, it's a gamble really. My experience with the bathroom was great. Super clean! Yes, it is shared. But, felt as same as being in my gym. Nothing new, sharing a bathroom. Super happy that I can visit Manhattan on a budget again.

This was a new location in the city to stay for me and I had a really good stay. The only downside was the incredibly slow elevator which is really just knit picking as I had a really good experience.

Nice, quiet & considerate guests in my all-female 10-count room. Climate control seemed perfect. Front desk check-in was simple but thorough. The cafe is the Bomb. A local church tower with noon bells.

Checked in around 11pm on a Thursday; easy to find room and bunk. Lots of cafe items sold in the common rooms, too in the AM.

I paid for a 6 person dorm and was put in a 10 person one, which seemed unfair given 6 person was more expensive through Expedia. Location was good and the top bunks have a blackout curtain and a rail alongside them which makes them feel secure and private.

Traveling on a very tight budget in NYC and needed place to lay my head at night. This hostel is FANTASTIC. It’s cleaner with more amenities than some of the cheaper hotels. Plus it’s close to the heart of NYC and lots of transportation accessibility. If you don’t mind sharing a room with people, this is a great place to stay. Great little coffee shop and restaurant in lobby too. I’d rather stay here and be close to everything than spend more than double on a dingy motel outside the city.

Stayed in a 4 bed room. Slept really well and had a bathroom close by.

Other than that I liked the cleanliness, the events they have for the guests, the location and the subway near by.

I was pleasantly surprised. I had no real expectations due to the budget price, but it exceeded them. When settling in they were organizing a mixer and bar crawl. Totally unexpected so I joined. The other travelers were also very nice. I would stay again.

The best thing about this hostel is that its close to the 1 and other transportation. But that's about it. The rooms were unbearably hot. They had the units on a schedule set to 82. Even if you turned them down after a few hours it would go back up to 82. I woke up sweating. The rooms themselves were clean but everything else, barely. It smelled in the hallways and they wear very dirty and the tiles stained. The elevator is super slow. The showers had mold in them. The staff themselves were friendly. The cafe downstairs didnt open until 6:50 so inconvenient for anyone needing food or coffee prior to starting the day. Overall, i would not return. I've stayed at much better hotels for less.

Solo traveled to NYC for 4 nights. The place has everything you need. Bed w/blanket, towels, shower, water station. The main floor has a couple of lively comfy hang out spots aswell, and since the majority of others are also solo, I found myself talking to strangers regularly. Very comfy environment

I was hesitant at first, this being my first experience staying at a hostal. After the first night, I decided to extend for the complete duration of my trip. Showers aren't super spacious, but they do their job and facilities seem to be kept up and cleaned well. They apparently have two kitchens, which one was under renovation. I budgeted for eating out, so I didn't use it, yet I saw plenty of people using it comfortably. There seems to be an area for all you need: a cafeteria like seating area with high chairs, a lounge if you need to do some reading or work, and the charmig patio seems to be where everyone wants to hang out and get together. Your own bed has your own light, charging stations, and a curtain for privacy. So it was still comfortable to do whatever you need if everybody else is asleep and you don't want to be a bother. Privacy is a luxury, but I quickly decided I didn't need it that much when you compare the prices to a and actual, reliable hotel.

Very good hostel experience. Property offered a lot of open spaces for meeting and doing activities. Also offered a range of NYC experiences you could sign up for, and reasonably priced cafe for breakfast/lunch items. Was a bit of a backup in the bathrooms for sink space at times, but in a shared space you just have to plan for that in advance.

This is my first time staying here, and this is by far the best Hostel experience I have ever had in my entire life. I love coming here because I get to meet starving artist and intellectuals from all across the globe. Oh the artwork is exceptional.

But too costly shared room with 6 people and cost around 77-120

Check in was smooth, bed sheets etc. were clean and locker was a good size. I liked using the kitchen, freezer, and fridge for the snacks and food I bought. There’s also a grab and go and a mini restaurant at the hostel that is decently priced. The outdoor area is nice and there is a separate upstairs area that has more chairs and privacy. I enjoyed my stay and liked that there was all ages there, from like 22-62. The shower stalls and bathrooms are clean and private. You can choose from all gender, male or female.

Everything was ok

The hostel had an excellent staff that were attentive and helpful. Rooms were cleanly, linens were neat, and shared spaces were well maintained with frequent restroom cleaning. Food on site was fairly priced and of good quality. Check in/out was very easy. Surrounding city area was a little dirty, to no fault of the hostel, and the property itself was very clean. Lots of food options in the area for takeout and smaller dine-in locations. Close to the subway entrance and multiple bus stops for easy public transit.

Surprisingly wonderful! Very clean and quiet. Stayed in an 8 bed dorm. Everyone was respectful of each other. Bed was comfortable with a privacy curtain, charger and light. Lockers were available to store luggage and/or valuables. Lots of food options from low to high end in immediate vicinity. Close to subway stations and easily accessible to mid/downtown neighborhoods. I would absolutely recommend this to those traveling on a budget.

A nice area, the bunk beds were abit tight and rooms were abit warm at night during summer heat wave...but friendly and helpful.

Everyone was so nice! The beds are comfortable and the staff is constantly cleaning, so even there are messy guests, it’s not for long. And last and most important, it’s an inclusive space and they make sure that’s held by everyone and seen by all guests

The property itself was very nice, with some weird cons! Staff was approachable and there were no issues or questions regarding safety inside and out. Very convenient and down the block from a station. The only big concern I had there was the smell at different points. The moment I walked in, something reeked of feces and diarrhea at the front desk and lobby (I am unsure if there was an incident, but it was quickly cleaned up). The hallways of the dorms reeked of musty feet and body odor (the other ladies in my room agreed), and the smell never changed during my stay. It stayed a bit in the rooms too, but was mainly in the hallway. I cannot remember which floor I stayed on. The rooms were clean and the bed situations were comfortable with curtains for privacy. The kitchen facilities and common areas were extremely nice, including the outdoor patio. Because there was a mix of families and older adults, it was not as social for a solo traveler in their 20s that I would hope for. This did mean it was calm and quiet, which was a nice break from the busy city. Extremely great pros but very prominent cons.

I feel like the property could use some slight renovation and deep cleaning especially in bathroom area. Saw some mold in the showers. It is New York so spaces can get messy quickly but i wish they would do a more thorough cleaning of the bedroom floors. The washer also ended up leaving stains on my clothes. I have stayed here before and that did not happen last time so maybe it’s due to a previous user of that washer. But if the washers could be cleaned more frequently that would also be great. Overall the staff’s super nice and was very helpful with my payment as I didn’t have the physical card or Apple Pay.

Nice and clean

It’s no knock on the hostel, but there were some super loud and rude guests who were up until 3 out on the patio and my room just happened to be right above it. I brought it to the attention of the staff, but they only quieted down for a little bit and went on being loud again. Yes, it’s a hostel and it’s affordable accommodations, but people seriously need to learn some basic etiquette. It’s not like they rented out the whole property.

As I was new to the city and was travelling alone, the stay was comforting and safe.

Staff was friendly and helpful, it was comfortable and clean. Slept well. Also bathrooms were good, just missed out the soap because they were empty.

Very clean. Many details are well-designed. The only problem is the elevator. The buttons don’t light up when pressed. It’s been like this for years. I believe they’ve received many complaints but i understand it can be hard to upgrade the elevator while keeping the hostel running smoothly because everyone has luggage

Elevator was broken for a large part of the stay, forcing many guests to lug their valises up three flights of stairs. Moreover, the hostel should provide extra sheets and towels in the room. One poor guy didn't have a towel. To make matters worse, he only realized this upon removing all his clothes and galivanted naked while complaining about the lack of such amenities. All told, the experience was decent. . .

The place is great, but they have to remind the other guests this is a shared bedroom so they need to respect quiet hours, there was people getting in and out the dormitory all night long walking fast and moving things noisily with no consideration at all. Beside noisy neighbors all great with the place.

This is a world traveler kind of stay. Location is wonderful. Efforts were made to help with privacy. They need another elevator but this a well functioning hostel.

I booked for a one night stay. There were two options 1) No refund 2) Full Refund. I opted option 1 as I am a budget traveler. Had to cancel my plan and ended up not getting any refunds. It would be better if they deduct some money and refund the remaining as it will help all budget travellers

My sheets were very dirty and when told the staff took hours to change them and I could not sleep because of this. It was hot and the place smelled weird

My first time in a hostel and I loved it! The rooms were clean, there were a lot of common areas to hang out, and the sense of community was really heartwarming, particularly the emphasis on welcoming international travellers! Convenient locations super close to the subway and Central Park. My one complaint would be the one functioning elevator is very slow, but I just took the stairs. Overall would definitely stay here again!

First time staying in a hostel and loved it. Was close to the subway and many grocery stores/parks and restaurants. Felt safe because all the cameras around and you need a key card to get inside and then again to get close to the rooms. Front desk was ok but also heard them talking about guests so 3 stars for that. There’s also a lot of travelers from around the world with different mannerisms so I was woken up a few times by people being loud and slamming doors at 7am but besides that I loved it I’d definitely book again.

Almost all hostels I have used internationally provide a breakfast as part of the daily cost, and I was genuinely surprised that this facility didn't - and the prices for food that is available are too high. As a consequence I had to patronise other local businesses who DO provide a range of food at reasonable cost.

Although check in time is stated as 3pm, upon arriving at around 4pm I was unable to check in due to no rooms being available at that time and the front desk being unable to get in contact with housekeeping. I waited an hour for a room to be ready and available for me to check in, after a long travel day and where I was only offered to have my luggage stored for the mean time. Booking through the Expedia app, the property details state Breakfast is served daily - this is not true, no breakfast is available, this misinformation NEEDS to be updated. There is a cafe with food available for purchase. If this is something you take into consideration while booking, it is important to know, as I did not until I asked when checking in at the property. Note also the location is slightly further away from many popular tourist destination spots, but there is a subway station close by which was easy to navigate.

I was in NYC solo for a few days and wanted to keep costs down. I'm in my mid-50s and the place was perfect for me. it was clean and comfortable and everyone was very friendly. It was a great stay for a very reasonable price.

I hadn’t stayed at a hostel before this one, and I was skeptical of any lodging outside of Hotels, Air BnB, and family/friends. I saw this spot had great reviews and the price was perfect for me just moving to NYC with no apartment yet. Once I got there, I realized how spoiled I was & how much I could’ve saved if I had started staying at hostels sooner! The spaces is filled with so many different people from all over the world! Families, individuals & groups were all present. Seeing families made me feel extra safe. The staff was very kind, and since I speak Spanish too, I had to have a couple conversations with staff members before I left. Everyone I spoke with was very friendly, detailed with their jobs, and made my experience even better. They have BIG lockers for luggage storage before & after check-in, a kitchen, yoga room, café, patio, laundry, TV room, and so many other activities and amenities. It’s a great decision for solo travelers or groups! I’ll definitely be back!

Perfect Hostel!

This was an important once a year show and we wanted to watch the awards and not a comedy show which railroaded its way in and rudely shut off the tv feed. We told the comedy group we weren’t interested in comedy since we were there to watch the Academy Awards and wanted the comedy group to go away. We even went to the front desk to complain,who refused to let us continue to watch the OSCARS. This was handled very poorly and caused a lot of anger.

Nice for solo travelers

When I arrived, the prior guests belongings had been left in the bunk and locker. They quickly switched me to another bunk with no issues.

My son enjoyed his stay. He highly recommends. I was happy he was happy and I rested easy knowing he felt safe.

The location is great, with a short walk to subway access. There's also a decent variety of restaurants nearby. It was very clean, from the front entrance to the dorm rooms. I appreciated the cafe with reasonable prices (the food was almost all good, the eggs were a little rough as they're reheated but for the price and convenience it's nothing a little salt and pepper can't make manageable). Staff were all very friendly and helpful. The only issues that I had were for one, the twice that I had to use the handicapped shower stall during my stay due to availability, the water didn't get any better than lukewarm. The other showers got very warm. I hate that the only shower option that someone may have isn't comfortable. Secondly, the beds were insanely hard. I woke up at 4:30 on my last day because my back was screaming in pain, and I don't have back issues. It's manageable with enough pillows and blankets to cushion, but it's really uncomfortable. I absolutely loved the value and the location. If I was working with a limited budget, I wouldn't be afraid to stay here again. However, if I have the budget for something else then I'm going to choose something else, just for the sleep quality. I really appreciate all of the extras offered, but at the end of the day I'm paying for a place to sleep.

Clean, comfortable, and 1/2 a block away from Central Park in a great neighborhood. No elevator, no problem. Small sacrifice for an actual hot steaming shower.

Lots of amenities and group activities available enhances overall experience of meeting people. Friendly, courteous , and knowledgeable staff. Be careful of local riff raff in immediate vicinity after dark though. Honor system of hosteling respected by most; though food in kitchen tends to ‘disappear’ even if it has your name on it. The staff that cleans the communal areas, keep it very clean. Beds are clean, comfortable, and have a privacy curtain. Overall HI NYC heightened my travel experience and made it more enjoyable.

Very noisy people and dirty washrooms

I have NEVER been in a hostel before. I saw the movie Hostel and ever since then I had a stigma around them. I went to this place and honestly really amazing. People from all over, it was always busy at the times I was awake (not sure about anything past midnight and before 6) and there were always people so I felt super safe. I felt comfortable in the bed they were super clean. I don’t even like staying in places where high turnover for beds just because of dirtiness usually and bugs but this one was nicely setup clean staff was freaking fantastic.

Got the shared room and everyone was polite. The only con is the only one elevator for all the building, can took a while.

Great location. The staff was very friendly, and the food service was great. The kitchen was spotless and had so much space for everyone. However, the washrooms were often low on paper towels.

This hostel offers everything you need to enjoy your stay without breaking the bank or compromising peace of mind. I was most impressed by how clean and well kept the property is. Fresh linens and warm showers. There was a guard out front at night and as a solo female traveler this place did not disappoint. 10/10 would recommend and stay again.

Didn’t know what to expect staying at a hostel but it was such a cool experience. I wish I’d stayed longer. There were curated experiences for the guests. I only got to check out the comedy night. Definitely cheesy (and crude) but still enjoyable! And such a fusion of cultures. You’ll meet people from all over the world!

Before booked I read some comments that said is dirty and the staff is rude or whatever. Nothing like that. The place is nice: clean, the staff is good as well. They have a cafeteria with variety of drinks including orange juice, coffee and a selection for breakfast (fruit, eggs, croissants, baggies etc). The WiFi is very good. The rooms are good as well. The only thing I didn’t like is the elevator it take so long to get from one floor to the other and the locker at the room are not big enough for big luggage (if you have one) but out of that for the price and location is good.

It's a good budget friendly hostel considering how expensive NYC is. Nice facilities and everyone is cordial with each other. About 5-10 mins walk to subway station, and there's a whole foods and trader joes within a few blocks away.

It was fun making international friends when I was staying in HI new York hostel

It was so hot. The second I entered the property I started sweating. I had to buy a fan for just one night. Any time I was not directly in front of that fan, I was sweating. Otherwise the stay was fine.

It was so hot I couldn’t sleep. None of us could, and there were only four of us. Nervous about returning tonight to a 10 bed room

The cafe offered a great range at reasonable prices, and was open late. Staff were helpful, and had arranged entertainment options every evening. Location was convenient to the subway, and there was a good range of eateries and other shops nearby. Area was noisy, but seemed safe. The bed could have been more comfortable, and the price was high for a bunk in a large dorm, but hey, it's New York City.
