Reviews
The hotel reviews indicate a mix of positive and negative experiences. Guests generally appreciate the hotel's location, cleanliness, and friendly staff, but express dissatisfaction with the shared bathrooms, noise levels, and lack of amenities.
- Convenient location
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Shared bathrooms
- Noise levels and lack of amenities
- 4/5
It was a good value for the area and presented as described. As a solo female traveler I felt safe and the shared bathrooms were not an issue. The AC wall unit was adequate. A better mattress would have been great but that is often the case in a budget room and extra pillows would have also been helpful to me for the way I need to sleep. But all in all I am more than satisfied with my choice.
- 5/5
This was my first time staying at this space I can’t say I have any complaints. I was there a little earlier because I had to check out of my other hotel that my job scheduled before check-in is not till 3 o’clock, but the receptionist was very kind and let me check in earlier. The room was clean. The bed was very comfortable. The staff was very friendly very closely located to the train stops and a block away from the Park can’t ask for anything else.
- 5/5
Everything was absolutely impeccable. The cleanliness, the room amenities, the comfortable double bed, the quiet atmosphere in the hotel and on the street, and the warm welcome (Thank you PAUL). The location is fantastic (5 minutes from the subway and Central Park). It’s great. We highly recommend this hotel because we stayed for a full week and everything was perfect.
- 4/5
The room was tiny but clean. The communal bathroom was very well maintained. The hotel was very centrally located for what we wanted to do. Air conditioning was perfect. Staff was great. We will stay again but next time bigger room on the ground floor.
- 5/5
The staff was so sweet. They letting us drop off our bags before check in and then we were late to check in so they put our bags in the room for us and sent instructions to get in our room. The property felt safe!!
- 5/5
Subways were nearby and stores, Central Park practically at the doorstep... great location overall and great experience for the price
- 5/5
Easy to get to and everything you need for a quick night or so. Being able to leave our luggage was extra helpful!
- 4/5
Lots of restaurants. Good ac.
- 5/5
If you are looking for a quiet hotel near the metro and Central Park this is your place.
- 5/5
La habitación estuvo amplia y grande, lo único que no me gustó fue el baño en el pasillo y que se debe compartir, central park puedes llegar caminando, hay dos estaciones de tren cerca y tiendas también
- 3/5
We had to go to other place! Not refound
- 5/5
Great place. Great location. When I read shared bathrooms, I panicked. But it’s so clean and so well kept. You can use the bathrooms on any floor. I never had a problem accessing the shower. Rooms we clean and tidy. I’d definitely stay again.
- 2/5
When I have arrived it wasn’t what I expected. Room got randomly hot and the location wasn’t very ideal from how it looked in the picture form the outside. The bed wasn’t clean when i pulled off the sheets.
- 5/5
All was great
- 4/5
Bathroom was clean everyday, close to the 2/3 train, and delis open until 2am
- 5/5
Greatvroom on 4th floor, staff were so nice and helpful with luggage
- 1/5
Alarm went off all night no one there to turn it off
- 3/5
Our stay at TCPN was really nice for the most part; location was great and very close to the subway, the shared bathroom was clean and convenient, and the bed was comfortable! The only issue we had was unfortunately some of the noise disruptions late-night and early morning in the building. First night a high-pitched alarm went off that kept us up for the rest of the night/morning until it was resolved around 10am, and the second night someone was leaving the building every 10 minutes after midnight and slamming the lobby door close, which was very hard to ignore and thus we didnt sleep much during our stay. The city noise was no issue for us, it just seemed to be some bad luck with a few small things this time around but other than those issues we still liked the place.
- 4/5
Room was small but great. I just wish the mattress had been less lumpy. Otherwise I loved it
- 3/5
It was ok, location was ok…did not know till we arrived that the bathroom and shower where outside of the room sharing with other rooms.. it was not advised on the description of the post. This is really not a hotel but an air bnb
- 5/5
Great place, quiet, clean. Lovely Harlem culture.
- 4/5
Suitable for our needs and close to subway and central park
- 4/5
The only downside was that the mattresses were quite hard, which made the stay for me a bit uncomfortable. The surrounding area can feel a little rough, with visible homelessness and drug use, which might make it seem less safe than it actually is. That said, we never had any issues or were approached during our stay.
- 1/5
The staff is not available 24hrs and the emergency
- 4/5
Great little room, definitely a good price. Just thought the neighborhood was a little dirty
- 5/5
The property was great! The staff and customer service needs to be developed. I was calling and calling 3 days prior to my stay and no one answered. I wanted to do late check in and in their email with the lodging information to me. They didn’t provide a valid email. Once I arrived. There was staff just sitting there while the phoe rang. I left multiple voicemails and till this day, I have yet to receive a call back. If you want to do late check in and skip having to go check in right after landing, I do not recommend this place.
- 5/5
Subway access was really close 3 minute walk and central park less then 5 minutes. I definitely enjoyed my stay
- 1/5
Staff are rude, stubborn, unwelcoming, and unhelpful.
- 5/5
The shared bathroom wasn't a problem. Nice place.
- 5/5
So clean, so quiet and a great place for rest.
- 3/5
My room was on the 4th floor with no elevator and no flexibility to put me on a lower floor.
- 4/5
Great location
- 4/5
.
- 4/5
Close to the subway and value for money.......but very noisy with creaking stairs and doors banging. The shared bathrooms are very clean and were always available when i needed to use them. I really appreciate the coffee pot in the room and fridge & microwave. Overall, a good stay but a little noisy for my personal comfort.
- 5/5
Perfect place for me solo in NY. Visiting my daughter at college nearby. Easy walk or public transportation. The shared bathroom was absolutely fine. Never had to wait. In fact never even saw anybody else even though all rooms sold out. Very, very clean too. Will stay again.
- 4/5
Sharing a bathroom was more annoying than I expected since I had to put on shoes and lock my door to walk down hallway just to pee in the middle of the night and unfortunately other guests left their hair in the shower drain before I used it every morning and the entire hotel including all bathrooms and sinks on all floors was out of order intermittently for over thirty minutes at a time on one day. But overall very clean and a good deal for the low price.
- 5/5
Great place to stay for the price, near by the Subway & a great breakfast spot, Claire's. Bring earplugs...there are stairs near all rooms & street noise.
- 5/5
It was an excellent place to stay if you want to be near Central Park.
- 1/5
Rat holes in the floor, which allow the rats to come out in the middle of the night. Gap in the door to the room also allows the rats to come into the room. (Be woken up in the middle of the night because the rats are trying to get into your room isn't fun.) Hot water isn't really hot and water pressure is bad. CONSTRUCTION on going first thing in the morning. When I left I hoped to talked to the "receptionist" about these issues, but no one was at the desk from 8-10 a.m.I called and left a message and (of course) NO ONE returned my call. EXPEDIA should remove this hotel as an option.
- 5/5
Quite and clean
- 5/5
A great affordable place to stay in NYC and near multiple subway stations.
- 5/5
This place is great. We are a family of four adults. We stayed in the family room. Plenty of space. Beds comfortable enough. There’s a fridge and microwave in the room. We were dreading the bathroom sharing but it worked out absolutely fine. Some of the showers could have been better though. One morning I struggled to get one of them to heat up. Reception staff are very nice and helpful. The area feels unsafe in places, but we survived! In fact we found a wonderful cafe called Claire’s just a 5min walk away - fantastic breakfasts. Also Central Park is so close! All in all I’d recommend this hotel.
- 5/5
Beautiful artwork
- 5/5
Everything was perfect for my stay... Very comfortable and quiet! The staff was friendly and helpful!
- 3/5
Bathrooms need improvement
- 5/5
It was great and staff were friendly.
- 1/5
Very bad people, weird rules, ans Nasty stuff, never again
- 5/5
Great stay.
- 2/5
Despite our request for a lower-level room, we were not informed that the hotel has no elevator. Upon arrival, we were forced to climb four flights of stairs to reach our room—numbers starting from 40s. Such a climb is impossible for older individuals or those recovering from surgery at the nearby Mount Sinai Hospital and looking for a nearby room to recuperate at this CPN Hotel—137 West, on 111th Street, NY 10026. Surprisingly, despite being advertised as a hotel (with four levels), the building had no elevators, which was inconvenient and seems a potential building code violation in New York. Each of the four levels had only one bathroom and one restroom shared among all guests. The rooms are tiny and unsafe, which is understandable for a building constructed 130 years ago (as we were told). While these rooms may suffice for young travelers for a night in Manhattan’s Upper Side at around $160, they are unsuitable for older people or those needing a place to recover after surgery at the nearby Mount Sinai Hospital before they go home.
- 5/5
Wonderful property-very clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and helpful. So easy to get downtown and near Central Park!!
- 4/5
The shared bathroom situation was never ab issue
- 5/5
We will definitely stay here again. 2 very convenient subway stops within minutes. Economy room is very small but you have everything you could need. Shower on the 3rd floor was backwards (hot/cold) but still worked. Overall, very charming and cozy!
- 5/5
The staff here are amazing, they went above and beyond to help us with anything we needed. The rooms are really lovely and the area is convenient. Definitely would stay here again.
- 5/5
I liked the position of the property as was easy to transport around New York in general.Would stay here again !
- 5/5
I have never stayed at this type of hotel before (and probably won’t again due to what i am accustomed to) but considering the fact that this was an in and out trip it suited my needs for a place to lay my head for the night!
- 5/5
Great stay.
- 4/5
The location is good, as you are a block from Central Park and the subway, and there is a decent amount of restaurants and coffee shops in a 10 minute walk radius.
- 4/5
Enjoyed stay! Good service and location.
- 3/5
.
- 4/5
Shared bathroom small and single use at a time
- 4/5
Good
- 4/5
The room was comfortable and good size. There is a small kitchen, which is very convenient. Downside is that bathrooms are shared

This was an older building converted into a hotel. It's about a two minute walk to the nearest subway station, getting around Manhattan was a breeze. The north entrance into central park is just beyond, leading to several enjoyable walks around the park. The block around the hotel wasn't super busy and felt quiet and laid back. It was very hot when we visited, so a water/ice station would've been nice.
- 5/5
It was a very nice, we stayed for one night and they were nice and friendly!
- 2/5
No hot water.. Shared toilet, bathroom.. No drinking water..
- 5/5
I didn’t come to NYC to stay in my room. However, the time I was here I had no problem. It was easy to find. Close to 2 different subway stops/subway lines(within close walking distance). This is a good location close to Central Park. There was a wall unit AC and kept the room nice and cool when it was in the mid 90’s. There was a mini fridge and a microwave for convenience as well.
- 5/5
I loved my stay at Central Park North. My room was very small, but I just needed a roof over my head for a couple of nights. The staff was so unbelievably kind, and made me feel so welcomed. It is in such a great location too.
- 4/5
The street is super cute and close to a subway entrance, so that was convenient. The room itself was small and a little warm, but it was very nice with amenities like a coffee maker, kettle, hotplate, and anything you might need. Other than the occasional siren or engine revving in the road outside and hard mattress (which I dont particularly mind), it was a very, very nice stay.
- 5/5
Staff was helpful when I needed little things such as a pair of scissors.
- 5/5
Perfect stay!
- 3/5
My stay was decent. My room was clean and convenient. It’s a block away from Central Park and lots of museums and places to shop and eat. The only things I didn’t like were the super squeaky staircases and the bathroom sink and bathtub wouldn’t drain properly, so there were instances where I was simply brushing my teeth and washing my face, and the sink almost ran over. Other than that, the space was accommodating and good for a quick stay in the city if you know you’ll be out and about for much of the time.
- 1/5
The receptionist was extremely rude during our check-in. In my reservation it stated that I booked a double bed room. However, I just had a full side bed. When I was down to the reception to ask for clarification, the receptionist asked me with a rude attitude if I had read what I have booked? I don’t appreciate that type of answer. This type of low skill customer services staff should not be in charge of a hotel check-in duty.
- 5/5
As others have mentioned -- this is a darling historical property, quiet and secure with just enough comforts to be a great value, but the area around the nearest subway station is somewhat fraught.
- 5/5
Quiet, low-key experience with very friendly and accommodating staff!
- 5/5
Average new york
- 1/5
The hotel was not in good condition, nor clean, nor quiet, nor safe. The lock on the room was flimsy and wobbly/loose which was disconcerting in light of the area it was in. I was literally followed by a crackhead on the block walking up to the hotel, and by a different one when I stepped back out. I am also vision-impaired and the hotel was not the least bit accommodating. I ended up not even staying there after seeing the conditions but they refused to refund me, even partially.
- 3/5
The property was clean and neat however, the tiny shared 4th floor shower has something to be desired and it would be nice to have at least a lamp in the room. More important, I did not have any idea that it would be so challenging to check in after the 3-6 o'clock check in time. It took me 8 emails/phone calls to get the instructions for the key code and a late check-in when I asked for them as soon as I booked the hotel. I also had no idea that my room would be on the 4th floor. At 70 years old, it matters where the room is located. Why not put that up front in the description ? I was exhausted from travelling across the continent when I arrived and not ready for 4 steep flights of stairs beginning with the stone stairs to get into the front door.
- 5/5
There were 3 of us, and we felt right at home! Everything was clean, staff was extremely friendly and informative. The location is great if you love good food. And it’s super close to Central Park! Would recommend!
- 1/5
Totally dissatisfied
- 3/5
The place fares terrible in terms of amenities they ought to provide. Bring your own water, bath slippers. The towels are old and short.
- 5/5
The front desk was very kind and quickly responded to my questions! Easy to get to and easy to travel to other places.
- 3/5
Close to the subway, good price, but the neighborhood it’s not nice a lot of homeless near the street.
- 4/5
Staff was great, super helpful and accommodating. Don't stay here expecting a Marriott hotel experience. It's an old building with small rooms and a distinctive smell, and you can certainly hear others through the walls. One bathroom on each floor, some nicer than others (the one on my floor was tiny and not the nicest, although the staff do their best to keep it clean at least). Internet provided is decent but pretty slow at night when more people were using it. There's a reason why this is a cheaper option, it's like something between a hostel and a hotel. That said, if you're looking just for a bed to sleep on in a convenient area by Central Park and easily accessible by subway, this is a good option.
- 4/5
Very kind and communicative
- 4/5
Thank you for easy access after hours! Polite front staff.
- 5/5
Great place! Very clean!!
- 4/5
They need to let you know that there is no elevator .i walked up 3 flights of stairs
- 5/5
Easy check in and check out process and surprisingly spacious room! Well stocked kitchen supplies for cooking, coffee, etc. Happy with the clean room and the shared bathrooms were very well maintained, we had no problems
- 4/5
Great value for money, given the competitive prices for NYC. The room was in good condition and the location was superb for our purposes. The only two small downsides were that the mattress was quite hard and the shared shower was perhaps not the cleanest. It’s more of a guesthouse than a boutique hotel, but we would stay here again.
- 1/5
Dirty
- 4/5
This is a good place to stay if you are visiting on a budget. The room was very clean and spacious and the staff were excellent. We were allowed to check in early and were offered a place to temporarily store our luggage after check out. The bathroom and shower are small and shared with the other guest, however, they were always available during my stay. The surrounding area is relatively quiet but I would still recommend wearing earplugs to sleep since the wooden floors and guests conversations are audible from the room.
- 5/5
Lovely
- 5/5
We really enjoyed our stay at The Central Park North. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel was perfectly located - close enough to everything with a 20 minute metro ride at most. Would definitely stay again next time we visit NYC.
- 5/5
Cleaning staff are good and will change your towels and bedsheets whenever you want. Room comes with air con, a fridge, coffee machine and drawers. Only downside was a shared bathroom with your entire floor. Hotel is located very close to a Subway (Sandwich shop and underground trains), Supermarket, Take Away, Dunkin Donuts and the northern side of Central Park Overall a very nice place to stay. We would definitely go back there again
- 4/5
The property was pretty decent and was convenient to many of the subway and busses that ran. Would recommend for short stays
- 4/5
I felt decently safe during the day, but at night, I would not ever go out alone, or with children. A few blocks in the wrong direction would be a mistake lots of drugs and prostitution. But the actual house was adorable. The staff was great and you were two blocks from Central Park. There is a subway one block to your left and three blocks to your right so very easy transportation.
- 5/5
My room had AC, which many reviews I had read said they did not, so that was a nice surprise. The staff was friendly and the room was perfectly suitable and clean. There were enough bathrooms that I did not have to wait for other guests to finish up given the shared bathroom situation. Check in and out was easy. It was the quietest hotel in NYC that I’ve ever stayed in. I would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Nice, neat and decent place to be. The only thing is the shared bathroom outside but it was clean, had paper and soap.
- 5/5
Nice hotel, very efficient check in, close to public transportation, everything was clean and quiet, I look forward to staying again!
- 2/5
Didn’t like share bathroom
- 5/5
Great staff, solid location. Older building, but clean and has character. we'll definitely come back to stay.
- 3/5
Ants in my room and a little run down facilities but other than that an okay place to stay at
- 4/5
The neighborhood is a bit dodgy, although I had no troubles. The room was quite well supplied for an inexpensive room, with a microwave, TV, fridge, safe, coffee maker, towels, coffee, plate, and utensils, as well as an in-window air conditioner. Aside from the neighborhood, an excellent value. Bathroom and shower room are shared among four rooms on a floor, but I never had to wait to use one of them.
- 5/5
A comfortable stay in a very clean room.
- 4/5
It was clean and the people that worked there great. It was a tiny room though and 4 gloors up w no elevator was rough.
- 4/5
So great
- 3/5
Overall an okay stay for an overnight trip. Room was nice and the service was good. My only advice is that it’s probably not an ideal place if your stay is long term. But for a short stay it’s ideal.
- 3/5
The hotel is super clear about the shared washrooms which I appreciate however there was a cable running through the window which caused it to not close all the way which led to it being quite drafty and cold. While there was an extra blanket, one side of it was dirty and that was disappointing
- 5/5
Good property
- 1/5
不喜欢self check no service after working hours
- 4/5
The smaller rooms need lamps. Wood blocks kept falling out window even opening for cooler air. But decent stay, very convinient and quiet. Slightly comfortable.
- 5/5
I will book the front rooms next time. The back ones are too small however this was a conformable stay.
- 5/5
I had the studio suite. Kitchen was included. Stove top wasn't working but there was a burner for pan/pot cooking. Clean but walls are thin. Warm in winter, a/c in warm weather. Convinient to 2,3 train.
- 4/5
The hotel gives you the feeling of being in a classic NY apartment. The best part of this place is how close it is to Central Park and a subway station. There are several options for dining where you can walk from the hotel.
- 4/5
This was a relatively good value place. Room was small but serviceable, coffee machine in the room is appreciated, as well as microwave and minifridge. It is a walk up, I was on the 4th floor, better to travel light (you can't fit a lot of stuff in the room anyway). Easy access to the subway, great location if you'll be around the Theater District and/or Central Park. No fuss entry and exit to the building, pretty quiet neighborhood.
- 5/5
It was a cheap place to sleep near Central Park and Columbia University. Tiny room and shared bathroom, but felt safe and clean. Thin wall - I could hear whispered knock-knock jokes next door. Also just one, glaring overhead light -- really wished for one soft reading light!
- 4/5
FD very friendly. Quiet, closet to subway, a lot of things around.
- 4/5
Would recommend ear plugs for light sleepers. Clear communication was given re shared bathrooms so no confusion there!
- 5/5
Easy to check in and charming hotel which is convenient to Central Park and subway station. The hotel is as described - has a shared bathroom for guests. We enjoyed our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone or return in the future.
