This hotel was beautiful and the staff were amazing! We got upgraded to a larger room with sitting area and another TV. It was a great way to end the very busy day. We only stayed one night and they kept our bags safe while we did some sightseeing and left our car in the garage.

The location was fabulous. Walk to everything. Underground, Grand Central, cafes/restaurants, grocery store. Bed was super comfy. Our older son slept on the pull out lounge. He said it wasn't that comfy. It was quiet even tho we were on the street front. We did ask for a room high up (12 floor) which did help. The aircon was a bit noisy so turned it off at night. Overall we had a great 6 night stay at San Carlos. Noisy aircon in the main bedroom.

Nice sized and clean room.

The hotel was very clean but several items in the room and throughout the hotel needed repair and maintenance. There were lots of dings and chips out of doors, baseboards, furniture etc. there was a lot of peeling wallpaper. Not a big deal if those things don’t bother you, and the cleanliness makes up for much of it. We didn’t receive the friendly support from staff that others mention. Not that anyone was rude, but we didn’t feel anyone went out of their way to be helpful. For instance, they didn’t offer to help with luggage on our way out at all. Stood next to me and watched me struggle with the suitcase. I also requested a high floor room and they gave us a room at the back of the hotel with no view at all. They charge a large fee for the exercise room but didn’t even tell us where it was. Overall the cleanliness and daily housekeeping balanced out these small things. We wouldn’t book this hotel again though.

The rooms are spacious and clean. Basic amenities like coffee maker and microwave were present. We felt welcomed. Will definitely come back.

Had everything we needed and we slept so well in the comfy beds. We loved New York and already want to go back. We will definitely stay here again!

We had a wonderful stay. The 1 bedroom suites are spacious for a family. Everything was clean and everyone was helpful. It was also very quiet and centrally located.

We have stayed at this hotel many times and always enjoyed our visit. Although mid-town is not our favorite location, the hotel is quiet, convenient and very well maintained. The staff are incredible - friendly, helpful and just nice people. We usually book a junior suite which has plenty of room to unpack and hang clothes. The shower is very good and there is alot of counter space in the bathroom. Although we didnt use it, there is a microwave. It is well priced and a great choice for staying in NYC.

The property is generally a little dated but it is very well maintained. Overall, great value for money!

The San Carlos is a funny place. It's not modernized, feels a little outdated, but is extremely comfortable. The room was a good size, with a window looking out over 50th Street.The Air conditioning worked well and could be adjusted which was good because the temperatures had risen to the mid 80s! The refrigerator was a good size, big enough to accommodate large bottles and leftovers from a restaurant. Everything worked as expected. The room, bathroom were very clean and well maintained. Housekeeping came daily and we're efficient and friendly. I was on the 16th floor and the elevator was fast without a lot of waiting. The people in Reception were friendly, helpful and welcoming.The neighborhood is great and I really enjoyed my time there. I guess the only thing that actually "needs" updating, depending on preferences would be the television. It would have been nice to have a smart TV. On the other hand, watching TV, a movie, was not a high priority. I highly recommend The San Carlos as a comparatively well priced hotel, in a nice neighborhood. I would definitely stay there again.

Midtown, a few blocks north of Grand Central, great location Quiet room Grabbed a lunch first day and forgot to grab utensils, but thankfully the room had a drawer with everything I needed! Loved my stay, would definitely come back

In walking distance to a lot of places, like Central Park, Roosevelt Island Tramway, Rockefeller Center and Grand Central Terminal. Otherwise it is located near two entrances to the subway.

Really enjoyed our time at the San Carlos Hotel. Great spot in midtown, 10-15 min walk from Rockefeller shops. We were absolutely blown away by the size of the room. We were 4 adults and 2 kids. very spacious with more than enough room for all of us. Will definitely be back next time we're in NYC.

The room was spacious (enough room for all of our luggage, a crib and a stroller with room to walk around) and it was tidied everyday and new towels were provided as needed. The air conditioning in the room was great! We visited during an unusually warm April and having a cool room to sleep in was nice. The location is great: there are many restaurants within walking distance and multiple subway entrances within three blocks. I would stay here again.

We had such a lovely stay at the San Carlos. Our room (junior executive suite king) was so spacious! The room was clean, gym was convenient had everything I needed and the staff was friendly and lovely. We’ve stayed here before and will come back again!

Location was excellent, an easy walk to places like Rockerfeller Center, 5th Avenue, Grand Central Station, Times Square etc. The staff were very friendly, super helpful, always said hello to us when returning to the hotel. The room was great, felt very big for a central hotel. It was ideal for us travelling as a family with two teens. There was quite a lot of noise from the street and surrounding areas (sirens, car horns etc) throughout the night but I expect that’s pretty standard when staying in a central location. Overall we were very pleased with the hotel and would definitely return.

Great hotel, we had a one bedroom suite which was perfect for our family which included 2 teenagers. Lots of space and the kitchenette was a bonus. Room was clean and staff were very helpful. Great location for exploring New York, easy access to the subway. 5 min walk to 5th avenue and the rockerfella centre, 10 mins walk to Central Park, 15 mins walk to Times Square. Great Diner across the road for breakfast.

The rooms we had had no view at all, basically you are facing another ugly building. No daylight at all. The whole experience wouldn’t be too bad, however on the first day just when one of the employees was showing us the room, a COCKROACH run out from under the fridge 😱😱😱😱😱

Room was very clean.The room was big.Parking garage was around the corner 60 a night. Staff were amazing..Unfortunately we didn’t get to eat at the restaurant in the hotel we had so many things on our list to do and we only stayed for a weekend.

So impressed with this hotel. Our group has stayed here twice because of the good price. And the staff are amazing! Friendly, welcoming and so very helpful. You need a kettle? Sure! An ice bucket? Sure! Slippers? Sure! Also they've been very flexible with our whole group who has been here for a week. Big thumbs up and kudos and thanks for a great stay!

My room did not meet my expectations, nor did it match the quality of rooms I've previously stayed in at this hotel. The bed was not a Queen size as advertised, and was too small for my tall frame.

The building is older, but it has a charming New York feel. The location is excellent — very close to the subway — which made everything very convenient. The room was spacious and had everything we needed. It was fully equipped with a microwave, fridge, cutlery, dishes, and a coffee maker. Complimentary coffee and bottled water were also provided. The bathroom included a bathtub, a hairdryer, and essential amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and body lotion. We also appreciated the large scale on the first floor available for guests to use, which was very helpful as we had a lot of luggage and needed to make sure it was under the airline weight limit. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay. We truly enjoyed our time and would happily stay here again.

We had our flight cancelled due to a storm and had to book 4 extra nights at san carlos the staff are excellent always with a smile and helpful with any queries. We had a large suite family of 5 with so much room. Ideal location a short walk to 5th av and rockerfeller centre. Great valur

I booked it and it definitely lived up to the reviews. The room(s) were tidy, clean and more importantly comfortable. We experienced a couple of minor plumbing issues during the stay which resolved very quickly and without issue. The high standard of accommodation, location and fantastic staff mean that this hotel will be my first choice for any future New York trips.

The room was clean and provided enough space for my wife and 12 year old daughter. Room had 1.5 bathrooms which was a plus. Check-in was smooth and the front desk allowed us to get in the room over an hour early before 3pm.

It’s super convenient in location. You’re not really gonna get a view from your room here but who cares?- just go out and see the city up close!

I was reluctant to stay because of the reviews but I’m glad I did. Every staff members were professional and friendly. I had great customer service the moment I walked in and checkout. They went above and beyond and very quick to assist at any given time. The room was squeaky clean. They even held our luggage after check out so we wouldn’t have to carry it around. Amazing experience!!! Thank you guys!!!

My main complaint is that I couldn't stay longer. I had to get a different hotel because they were booked. But, I'll be back

Everything was great at this hotel. Would definitely stay there again. The pillows could be a little more comfortable, however, in the grand scheme of things, it’s a minor issue. The beds were good including the pull out sofa bed (sometimes those tend to be very uncomfortable and springy) but this one was not the case. Everyone there was friendly. Would recommend for sure to others.

The staff were so helpful and friendly! The hotel was clean and had nice amenities. Yes, some wallpaper was slightly peeling but did not detract from the rest of the room. There was a nice lounge area to relax and refresh before and after check-in/check-out. The subway station was a couple blocks away. The room was quiet and I slept great! I would definitely stay again!

I love that our room had a set of dishes and cutlery, it was so convenient for bringing take out back to the room. Also, having a mini fridge and a microwave made warming up bottles so easy. Great hotel for families, very attentive staff.

Parking at the icon garage around the block was secure (across from a police station!) At $85/night. I would highly recommend this hotel, staff is very friendly and helpful.

Hotel was nice with a great staff, the only issue I had was they offered zero amenities, no coffee, no breakfast, no pool or spa, and yet changed a resort fee, not sure what we were paying for there. Other than that we liked the place and was conveniently located to hang in all the popular mid town spots.

A proper old NYC hotel. Nice helpful staff, clean room, good elevator and conveniently located. Room was “NY small” and a bit dated, but served us well as a quiet place to sleep. Mattress was definitely on the firm side of comfy. Appreciated the in-room microwave and fridge! Lots of good eating options close by, several subway lines within a few blocks. Would book it again.

The hotel is centrally located - easy walking distance from Radio City, Times Square, St. Patrick’s, and Grand Central. The New York Luncheonette right across the street is an excellent place for breakfast.

This property is in a great location, convenient to many attractions like Rockefeller center. The rooms and clean and decent size for a city. The bathrooms are recently updated and very nicely done. The staff was all very nice and accommodating.

The room was so so you could see the ceiling had leak damage in the bedroom and the tub was so slippery in the bathroom we also ran out of body wash and it was not replenished but the staff was friendly but the whole hotel needs to be updated. And the the car service they used let’s just say be careful they quote you one price and then when you arrive at your destination it’s not what you were quoted aside from the fact that the driver didn’t even drop us off at the correct airline. Bottom line is we probably won’t be staying there again .

We had a fantastic stay at the San Carlos. Perfect location, friendly/helpful staff and clean, spacious and comfy room. No hesitation in recommending, we would definitely stay again!

We also had trouble with the TV. The "Guide" did not show what the programming was on individual channels at a specific time. It just listed channels available. This is not helpful. The engineer who came to address this tried to explain why this was the case, but it really didn't make sense. Otherwise, this was a good hotel experience.

We have stayed here many times and appreciate the size of the room as well as how quiet it is. Midtown can be very hectic but we feel our room is an oasis of calm. Service was excellent we look forward to returning when we next visit NYC.

While we were generally satisfied with the accommodations, we were disappointed with the cleanliness of the nook containing the coffee maker and under the beds. The shower drain was particularly slow and the water pipes from an adjacent or upper room created an obnoxious vibration whenever the occupant showered. On the other hand, the staff was extremely welcoming and polite throughout our stay. Perhaps, it was just a rare occurrence as this was our second stay there. The location is ideal because it is not busy like the other areas and still close enough for a nice walk to places of interest. I suppose we would consider staying there again if there were no other familiar options.

We had a great stay! The staff is very inviting and helpful, the rooms are very clean and the hotel overall is quiet. There were some minor noises heard from other rooms but nothing crazy at all. The decor is a bit dated but rooms are well appointed and spacious. And very comfortable beds! We will definitely return.

This was our second time staying at this property. The rooms are very spacious considering it’s midtown Manhattan. The staff is friendly and attentive! Brian, our concierge did an excellent job from start to finish making sure our luggage was cared for and giving us some local knowledge. We truly enjoyed our experience which was very similar to our first experience and we hope to stay at this property again.

Friendly and helpful staff, rooms are in nice condition, location is excellent if you are doing things Midtown or want to access to Grand Central or even Penn Station.

Room was spacious and clean although decor could do with being updated. Housekeepers were great. Must’ve been the only hotel in New York not to have a Christmas tree so the atmosphere was a bit disappointing.

The staff was excellent very helpful and courteous. The room has plenty of space for a couple and children with a small kitchen. The receptionist and door man was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this hotel also fo itis great location to Rockefeller plazza, St Pats Cathedral.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The facility itself is clean, without frills. Must be close to a fire station or police station because sirens all day and night. Didn't keep me awake though. Would definitely book there again if rates are competitive. No complains.

Superb Staff, nice room. I stayed in 2 different rooms, one in back, very quiet (a bit dark, but okay for me). One in the front, less quiet, but bigger, more light.

The location is great if you want to be midtown (for a show, especially). It's nice. I'm not sure it's "luxury," and we got a one bedroom suite wo we could have room for older kids in the living room. Weird thing was: the bathroom was accessed through the bedroom, so you couldn't sleep undisturbed in the bedroom. Otherwise, everything was fine. The extra fees made the cost high, so it was very close to the same price of two separate rooms at a mid-range hotel.

The San Carlos is a wonderful place to stay in New York. Great location as you are mid-town. The room was very spacious with two separate rooms do plenty of space. Along with a small kitchenette with fridge, coffee machine the room was well equipped. All staff were excellent and vet friendly. Can’t recommend highly enough.

San Carlos Hotel is a fantastic property in a great location. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful and was a great change of pace to the usual chain experience. We visited with 3 kids under 6 years old and the 2 room suite was perfect to fit everyone.

Great location and a pleasant hotel

The room was very generously sized and extremely clean. Plenty of great restaurants and bars surround the property and the subway is just a block away. If you don't mind walking, you can be in Times Square in about 15 minutes or less. We will definitely be back! Hint - the hotel does help you secure airport transportation - cost is about the same as an Uber. Very convenient! P.S. Shout out to Andy who helped us secure ground transportation back to the airport!

Grateful for the location and attentive front desk staff. Nice to have a mini-fridge and microwave in the room. Robes were a nice touch. However the general condition of the property left something to be desired. Looked like it hadn't been updated since about 1990. Cracked and chipped tiles in the bathroom, popcorn ceilings, worn furniture, water damaged wallpaper. It was clean but not pristine, just overall needs an update.

The staff at the San Carlos was so friendly and helpful, from restaurant to laundry options. The location is great, with many subway stations around the corner, good dining nearby, but also very walkable to the center of Midtown. Loved our stay.

The room itself was very spacious with free waters, a microwave, a fridge and very large king bed which was comfy. Some of the old designs/wear and tear of the room showed - cracks in the silicone on the base of the toilet and bathtub, loose wall outlets near the bed trying to plug electronics securely, noisy ac/fan unit (if left on throughout the night). The area itself (mid town east) was stacked with restaurants, shopping, bars and transit all in walking distance which was very convenient. All in all we probably would come back to this hotel as it checked most of the boxes

The hotel was very nice, but there was no bar or room service. Because it rained the entire time of our stay, a nice restaurant would have been nice. They do have an Indian restaurant, but wasn’t a good option for us.

Great room, area and friendly staff

Everything was comfortable and the room was nice. The closet is larger than expected. The bathroom is pretty tight so if you plan on having two people getting ready at once in there, make other plans. The room is spacious for NYC, would've been nice if it had a sofa instead of just the chair to make more use of the space. Our room 905 had some visible ceiling repair work but was well maintained. The view out of our window was just of the apartment building across from us, not a flaw but not a perk either.

We have stayed at the San Carlos before and were thrilled it was available for this trip to NYC. The staff are always so friendly, the rooms large for city standards and the location can’t be beat for all NYC activities. The beds are so comfortable and the bedding really nice. Somehow we have always gotten upgraded to a room with a kitchenette and good coffee and coffee maker provided. We will always try to stay here on future travels to NYC.

Excellent location. Walkable to most places. The building itself is definitely not a luxury hotel. Needs renovation. However, bed was comfortable. I was put in a room right next to elevators, and overlooking a busy street. I asked if I could be moved, but guy at front desk said they did not have anything available and could maybe move me the next day. Never heard back even though I stayed 6 nights. He also said that since I was on 12th floor, I shouldnt hear much. Wrong. Garbage trucks, people yelling in the streets, sirens, you name it. Eh. Will stay in luxury hotel next time.

The San Carlos Hotel offered a Junior Suite with a kitchenette at prices comparable to other standard rooms at nearby hotels. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious. The location was excellent for both Broadway theaters and Central Park. Good selection of restaurants and shops are nearby. All employees were very friendly and helpful. Shout of to Victor our bellman, so kind and understanding.

The place is very good located, walkable and subway so close. Many places to buy, eat and have fun. The staff so friendly and always there to help. Our suite was great but the bed to tiny for two so they prepare the sofá bed in the living room and that makes the place not so fantástic, but anyway we hope to return someday

The diner across the street is a great place to start your day off with a good breakfast. The only thing I wished I had done was to speak to the house keeping staff to stop letting the doors slam as they cleaned. Once or twice, sure, but 30-40 times in an hour was way too much annd we couldn’t sleep in. We only said something on the last day, and it was handled immediately, but it shouldn’t have been happening in the first place. We would absolutely stay here again. The noise took nothing from our stay.

Kitchen and when I got in the room it simply had a microwave and small fridge. It was an ok room But I was expecting a room like the photo online

We had an amazing stay for our trip to the US open. Nice quiet neighborhood, good restaurants nearby and good access to Flushing Meadows. Staff very friendly and helpful.

The San Carlos was a clean, quiet hotel located in mid town where we wanted to be. Great bakery and bagel places close by as well as a short walk to a food court and many excellent restaurants

The queen-bed size room with kitchenette is small, very small considering the photo that is shown as representing this room. The kitchenette is basically an area of about 3 feet wide with tiny microwave, coffee/tea maker with supplies, and a small refrigerator with tiny freezer. The only drawer contains supplies for meals for 2 people. It works but is very basic. Sometimes housekeeping staff replaced used plates, cups, and flatware with clean ones, but one day the staff just left them for me to wash. New coffee pouches were not replaced, body wash was out and not replaced for 3 days, no bath mat for one day, and no one had cleaned under the bed before my arrival - I found used slippers and one sock remained under the bed for my 6-day stay.

The San Carlos never disappoints! Impressive at every level. Location, Staff, and room size. We come to NYC for exploring the city and catch some of the US Open. There’s not a better option for a group of family and friends.

Excellent staff and service. We stayed for 3 weeks, and both the front desk staff, and housekeeping staff were very helpful and took great care of us. Hotel is also close to subway and MTA bus lines. Rockefeller center, and UN building are a few blocks away, and walkable. Overall area seems very safe, even in late evenings and nights.

This hotel was a great stay. We were here for a week recently. Our room was an Executive Junior Suite. The room was large, clean and nicely decorated. The staff was attentive and rooms were cleaned daily. The hotel is in an excellent location. Subway trains are very close by and is walking distance to Rockefeller Center and Grand Central Station. There are also several affordable places to eat close by. If you want a great cup of coffee, Manhattan Espresso Cafe is right behind the hotel. New York Luncheonette is right across the street. Ess-a-bagel and Metro Marche are within a block. All are excellent.

We had an amazing experience, we booked a suite for a family of three and it was spacious. The location is perfect, right by Lexington, a short walk to Central Park, Rockerfeller Centre, Central Park, Times Square and shopping on Fifth Avenue. The rooms have air con and the staff are great. The kitchenette was so useful, with the coffee machine, fridge and microwave.

The hotel is in a great location. The rooms are comfortable, but show a little wear and tear like peeling wall paper, old carpet, etc. Overall, the rooms are clean and the bed was so comfortable. I would stay here again.

We appreciated the size of the rooms and having a small kitchenette. We loved the location which was easily walkable to many parts of midtown and popular sightseeing spots. The subway was 1 block away which made our overall trip very easy to navigate. We would stay at the San Carlos again.

Only complaint was clogged shower that didn't drain fast enough. There was 2-3 inches of water in the tub after a 5 minute shower.

Overall excellent four day stay. The room was spacious, bed was comfortable. If I could recommend anything it would be to improve the pillows, they were a bit hard and need to be replaced.

The San Carlos Hotel is conveniently located. We booked two junior executive suites, and they were nicely appointed and fairly large. Highly recommend!

The room on 2nd floor was the worst I have experienced in the many times I have stayed in the hotel. The windows are unusually small to start with, but one of them is then blocked by the afterthought air conditioning unit. The lack of natural light was matched by the poor lighting available in the room.

This was the second time I have stayed at this hotel with my family. We like it here very much and will continue to stay here on our future visits to the city. The entire property is clean and well maintained. The staff is wonderful, so kind and extremely helpful. The location is perfect for our needs. Easy walking distance to Rockefeller Center, 5th Ave shopping, Times Square etc. there is a great little diner directly across the street open for breakfast, lunch and dinner we eat there every morning when we stay. There is also an excellent steakhouse right next door if you are looking for something more upscale close by. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone.

Location, Location, Location is the strong point of this property. Right smack dab in the middle of all the action of midtown Manhattan! Walking distance to tons of attractions and easy access to subway for the rest of the island and burrows. Rooms are slightly dated but clean and large for a Manhattan hotel. Bed was plush and comfy. Even the pull out sofa bed was comfortable according to my 10yo. Hotel front desk staff were super friendly and helpful with lots of recommendations for food and directions to stuff in the area. Bell hops were always available and willing to help. There is a great all day breakfast joint across the street that is delicious. Highly recommended. Had a great stay. Would stay again when visiting NY!

This was a great hotel stay for our family of 5. Short walk (10 minutes) to Rockefeller Center, 5th Avenue, 20 minutes to bottom edge of Central Park, short walk to a subway station. Good restaurants across the street, around the corner, and a short walk away! Perfect location for our trip to explore the city.

Perfect place to stay in NYC! We were able to walk to so many iconic places and just a short subway ride to other locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn. It was a great space for a family of 5 to rest and relax after seeing the sights! The staff was so friendly and accommodating! Would definitely stay here again!

Very nice hotel in a great location in NYC. This was our first time to NYC so I didn’t have anything to compare it to. But the staff was very nice and the room was clean and comfortable.

The San Carlos Hotel was fantastic for our family of three. We live in a rural area and enjoy a bit of space, especially our teen daughter who reports that we snore. We stayed half of a week long trip to NYC in an Airbnb in New Jersey and half at SCH…I wish we would have stayed the whole week at SCH. We stayed in a Queen suite… we had a Queen bed with a door between that and the sofa bed (which my daughter said was very comfy)/ living area. There was a good amount of space and while the decor and some of the furnishings may be a bit dated it was clean and convenient to good food, the subway, and sights. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. I would stay there again in a heartbeat! Great job!

Our experience was great. The location is excellent and San Carlos is a very nice and clean hotel. I suggest that there could have more plates and glasses because we were 3 people and only have 2 pieces of each.

4 friends rented 2 rooms for 4 sleeps! The hotel has a great location in Midtown. Walking distance to Grand Central Terminal, breakfast options and late night dinner spots. We could’ve walked more but it was summer hot so we cabbed it- and eventually learned how to navigate the subway. We all appreciated the hotel and would definitely stay again. One improvement would be 2 beds in our rooms instead of 1 to share. The rooms are a good size and have refrigerators for drinks and leftovers.

The best things about this hotel are the cleanliness and the comfortable beds. It advertises an on-site restaurant but we never found it open. I think it serves Indian food. I assumed with saying there was a restaurant on-site we would be able to get a morning coffee. I asked the front desk about that when we checked in but was told we had to go out to get coffee so we went to Starbucks every morning. Upon arrival, our tv was not working. We had to call the front desk for that, but they quickly fixed it. The bathroom sink was very slow to drain...not what I expected to find at this hotel. Finally, this is just my personal preference but I like staying a little closer to Fifth Avenue, which I find is a more convenient location for what we like to do.
