Reviews
The Standard Hotel East Village offers a unique blend of style and comfort, with a prime location in New York City. Guests appreciate the friendly and attentive staff, clean and well-appointed rooms, and a vibrant atmosphere. However, some guests find the rooms small and mention issues with noise and lighting.

Apart from initial hiccup where the AC didn’t work well for the first night and delay in getting to another room on the second day the stay was comfortable .
- 4.5/5
View from the room was excellent. The staff were very helpful and polite. The coffee that the hotel offers at the lobby early in the morning is a big plus. Even in a king studio, space was tight.
- 5/5
I chose the Standard because the Moxy wasn't available. I needed to be near my son's NYU dorm on 3rd. Ave. The Standard proved to be fantastic and I will definitely return. Rudy at the front desk was really friendly and professional. The parking was explained clearly to me. Rudy gave me an upgrade to a higher floor so I'd have a fantastic view. I didn't eat at the restaurant, but had a drink at the bar and the bartender was also very friendly and helpful. The room was great and had everything we needed. Would strongly recommend The Standard.
- 3/5
The staff were always helpful and accommodating. Was disappointing there were no coffee making facilities in the room and free coffee was served only from 5:30-7am in Reception. Some of the shower jets did not work properly and the steam control in the shower was broken. Elevators felt more like a goods elevator than a guest elevator. Bar seemed to close early, even on the weekend. Difficult to open and close the curtains.

The staff were extra helpful. The location ideal. My only complaint was the ac in my room did not work properly even after attempts to defrost it.

Love the east village and great location. Room was good and staff friendly and

Arrived pretty late to my reservation and the older lady at the front desk made me feel pretty dumb about my reservation and had an attitude while I was checking in. It wasn’t welcoming at all. Then after dragging my heavy bag upstairs with my other guests the key didn’t work. And that happens sometimes but the hospitality just wasn’t there. She had an attitude anytime I asked a question. Even though ai stayed here plenty of time, I doubt I would return. Try Sixty, or Bowery if you’re in that location. They’re definitely more welcoming.

Exceptional

Staff excellent. Carpet in rooms not a great idea but, room a reasonable size and location great if you have a student at NYU
- 5/5
Yes the breakfast was very fresh and the staff were very polite and courteous.

Fantastic location! Can’t beat the access to the East Village. Will definitely stay here on my next trip to NYC

Great location. Comfortable quiet and well appointed hotel. Good atmosphere and extremely attentive and helpful staff. Highly recommend for proximity to West village East village Greenwich Soho and easy access to subway for excursions elsewhere.
- 4/5
Great location and room - we had a corner room and the views were great. The bed was super comfy and everything was kept really clean. The bathroom was pretty big but shower could have been better. The service was a bit slow in the cafe downstairs.
- 4/5
café for breakfast was great - staff not always smiley (one girl in particular really looked we were bothering here)

Good location, comfortable room, efficient and friendly staff.
- 5/5
Breakfast was great. Staff are kind and helpful. Well located. Outstanding value.
- 5/5
Great staff, cool location, nice rooms!
- 5/5
Staff were all so kind our entire stay. We arrived after a long ride in and they got us right into our room. The room was unbelievably quiet (707). No street noise at all which is never the case. Bed was comfortable, our bathroom was huge and bright, and the heated tile floors were a nice surprise. We would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Great stay at the Stabdard. Rooms were small but w ll designed. Staff were all friendly and helpful.

Location excellent with close subway access. Staff accommodating especially for storing our luggage. Best hotel towels EVER!

Loved our stay! Clean and comfortable rooms. The bedding, towels, and robes were high quality. Staff was so friendly and helpful. Perfect/convenient location for us. Enjoyed the hotel bar and restaurant. We’ll definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Fantastic staff - lovely room - exceptional experience
- 2/5
I had just taken a shower and there was a knock on the door and before I could say "come back" - suddenly one of the hotel staff had unlocked the door and opened it. I stopped the door from opening and I had just wrapped a towel around me at the same time. I looked at this person and she said "i just need to check your mini bar" and tired to enter the room - I pushed the door back at her and said "NO - CAN'T YOU SEE I JUST GOT OUT OF THE SHOWER" and slammed it shut and turned the dead bolt. this was ridiculous - what made her think that she could knock and enter a second later, and then see someone standing there and try to come into the room? I will not stay there again.
- 5/5
Perfect room and location. Staff was wonderful, especially Lee!
- 4/5
Clean room, nice view, friendly staff, fun area.
- 4.5/5
Perfect location for us in the East Village. Friendly staff, great hotel bars and vibe. The comfiest bed. Nice size bathroom with shower and bath. Floor to ceiling windows with views over the streets below. Close to coffee shops, restaurants, dive bars, subway and St Marks Yoga!
- 4/5
Friendly staff, very clean room, good location. The room was very small, but nicely appointed and functional. The entrance was a little hard to find, and the lobby was a bit shabby, but fine overall. The $30 mandatory "resort fee" is a major drawback, and would make me look at other properties instead of this one for future travel to NYC.
- 5/5
Close to good pubs and restaurants like Coopers, McSorleys, and other pizza and coffee shops. The staff was super friendly and I love the access to Crunch Gym across the street.
- 4/5
Nice rooms, great staff.
- 4.5/5
Room service could be improved. In particular for breakfast. Room noise (doors)
- 4.5/5
Cheery, bright and clean the hotel has a trendy vibe yet is super comfortable. We were there for a nearby wedding on the coldest weekend of the year and we were glad there were good restaurants there so we didn't have to leave. Lee at the front desk was friendly and helpful and the restaurant staff was too!

Staff was truly top notch - check in, bar/restaurant, and check out. Room was a little small but very reasonable for NYC. The bed and pillows - comfy, housekeeping - excellent and the views - great. Great location for everything we needed. Will stay here again!

Great room, great staff, couldn't have been better

Fantastic staff! Great location. Quiet room.

All of the above
- 5/5
Vera the Ukraine maid was superb . The reception staff were warm and lovely. Dominique the doorman was strong and helpful. Leemarus the Manager was outstanding and professional. Dane the head of the 4 restaurants & bars was professional and warm.
- 5/5
Great room, amazing staff, perfect views and location.
- 5/5
Quiet and great location! Cute bakery next door
- 3/5
The room was lovely and accommodating with daily changes The challenge was the heating system
- 4/5
Lovely staff, downtown artist vibe with small contemporary rooms and panoramic views of the city. (17th floor) Clean and modest yet could use a little update. However, we will definitely come back.
- 5/5
Staff is super friendly. Great rooms and views. Great hotel!!
- 5/5
Staff are pleasant and helpful. Very clean!
- 5/5
The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was clean and we had a great view. Comfy beds. Location was awesome; tons of places to eat and shop within walking distance, and close to subways.
- 5/5
Great staff, big room with nice decor.
- 5/5
Staff was exceptional, the view was amazing.
- 5/5
Nice
- 5/5
Staff was attentive and housekeeping was on it every morning living my room nice and tidy each day. The view was also great!
- 4/5
I had some issues with the invoice that I’m still trying to solve. The area is fantastic.
- 5/5
The desk staff and front entrance staff are the best I’ve encountered anywhere in the world. Great location in the East Village. We’ll definitely be back.
- 2/5
I was hoping for something much better. The rooms are so poorly designed and are outdated. Every knob and switch in the room is broken. The light in the bathroom would turn on randomly. The AC vent straddles the curtain and struggle to hold temperature never mind stay silent. The carpet is extremely worn and tired. I stay all over the city and this is the last place I will stay when I come back.
- 5/5
The images on Expedia did not match our room. We ended up getting a room one size smaller than what was in the photos.
- 4/5
Nice location and stylish hotel. I felt comfortable. Everything was ok except two things. The first and most important the air conditioning is working very loud, it noisy 24/7.. second is there is no coffee machine in the room. There is the full minibar but no coffee. You either need to order in or go down to get it. This is a very basic thing, it is essential to be able to do your own coffee in the room.
- 4/5
Bed was aweful. The hotel needs to invest in replacing beds and decor for bedding. The staff was great. Location was excellent. Bed is my only complaint. The manager on duty and front desk associates were polite, very accommodating and patient.
- 5/5
Great stay as usual!
- 5/5
Hotel Staff, cafe, and Front desk were amazing and hotel location was perfect. Cleaning staff needs to do better they don’t properly clean the mildew stains around edges
- 5/5
The hotel, the location and the staff are all great
- 1/5
Harassed and threatened by a lunatic in the room next door within 3 hours of checking in. They sent security and "made a note of it" but did not move either party, let alone comp a meal or offer to upgrade my room for the trouble. Frigid drafty room in 20 degree weather, blood stain on the wall, room connected to the housekeeping closet so I heard every single time is closed. View was a wall the entire 5 days.

Fantastic hotel. Great views and many restaurants and shops in area. Great staff. Rudy was very helpful.
- 5/5
Very friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommend
- 5/5
This was a great hotel. Mainly for its location. Centrally located in the east village it was so close to the Bowery ballroom where I was seeing a few shows that weekend. Also the rooms are just perfectly sized with a great view. Bathrooms are spacious. The bed is comfy. And there are two restaurants in the hotel itself. Everything just plain works. Can’t wait to return.
- 2/5
the room was way diffrent then apperead on the photo of the standard room there was no window facing the bed the tv was not hung as is shown on the picture there was no bath tub the bathroom was diffrent color then shown on the picture the floor ws sticky in the shower
- 5/5
Clean, friendly staff who always said hi and seemed to know me! Comfortable, relaxing, great location. Nice bathroom.
- 5/5
Excellent staff
- 5/5
Nice size room and bathroom for nyc. Friendly staff
- 5/5
Great location nice rooms
- 5/5
Comfortable room and excellent bathroom with a great view of lower Manhattan. Perfect lo cation for visiting our daughter.
- 5/5
The bed was very comfy, room super clean, staff very friendly. We had a corner room and we loved the floor to ceiling views.
- 5/5
Staff was great, as always. I can say Ive stayed here multiple times.
- 5/5
Everything was fantastic! 😊
- 5/5
Great hotel. One of best in NYC
- 4/5
Great room, clean and excellent location
- 5/5
They were lovely.
- 5/5
Everything was great. The view was incredible and everyone was very friendly! Perfect weekend getaway
- 2/5
$1100 for a one-night stay.
- 3/5
The staff is amazing, very warm & friendly, but the rooms are just ok. Like many NYC hotels, they're too small, and we had even upgraded to the Premium King. The bed was too soft. The showers are in the bathtub so you have to climb in and out. The fire alarm chirped every few hours our first night. The staff took care of it the next day. The location was fine in general. I wouldn't necessarily stay again.
- 5/5
All of the above! The staff members are incredibly ice and helpful!
- 5/5
Room was spotless. The staff courteous. The location was interesting. Sandwiched between west village and Bowery.
- 5/5
Fabulous staff
- 1/5
Wasn't allowed to check in when I returned to the hotel at 2AM because the hotel staff failed to communicate the need for a credit card authorization form and didn't provide it as an option until the next morning. Truly one of the most horrific hospitality experiences of my life.

everything was great

Every single person that we interacted with
- 4/5
The room was great. A bit small but it did the job. More outlets would be nice.
- 5/5
Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful! Hotel is quaint, trendy, and great location.
- 5/5
Staff. But everything is great
- 4/5
Hotel was nice but our room was small. Nothing like the picture to the left
- 3/5
Despite the so-called “upgrade” the room received was not the room pictured when making the reservation.
- 5/5
Great option in the East Village
- 5/5
very nice and very well located. room large for New York and very comfortable. Cool Hotel
- 4/5
Excellent location near cooper union and NYU. Rooms are pretty small for the exorbitant price charged per night. One can pay the same for a 5 stars much larger rooms in hotels (Hilton, Hyatt, Westin, Intercontinental, etc) in elsewhere in Manhattan.
- 5/5
Staff was 10/10
- 5/5
The staff was excellent, helpful, and very professional! I was only there for 12 hours but they made my stay great! Thank you!
- 5/5
Thank you
- 5/5
Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Yes
- 4/5
The room was tiny but great views, comfortable bed, super amazing cleaning and refreshed waters daily. Service overall was amazing as was the location. Only complaint was that the room had a funky sewer smell. Not something that made me want to exit the room but definitely not beautiful.
- 5/5
My stay was without any problems whatsoever. I had everything I needed in my room. Enjoyed the bar in the Mexican restaurant but didn’t have any meals in the hotel’s two restaurants. Would very much like to return some day
- 3/5
Could not check me in until 4 even though check in was at 3. room was gross. Great view, and location. It was fine, but felt more like a hostel. I loved the staff and had a great trip but this place was falling apart from the lobby to the 20th floor.
- 3/5
very small and bad rooms, comapred to the pics
- 5/5
The staff was beyond efficient and friendly. Very personal, I felt completely looked after:)
- 5/5
Great location in the East Village. My go to hotel when visiting Manhattan. Staff is exceptional and consistently so.
- 5/5
Near NYU. 15 Min walk to W. Village or SOHO. Nice staff. Good bar and patio restaurant.
- 2/5
There are some cute cafes nearby, like next door Librare. The only good thing was unlimited supply of Saratoga water and this cafe. The area is so so, close to really nice streets, but also a lot of homeless and dirty streets near by.
- 5/5
Wonderful staff and stay. No pool. Great adjoining rooms.
- 5/5
Staff were excellent, and I mean every staff member, from the door / bell staff, to the desk, to the restaurant and bar, and the housekeeping. All were top notch in performance and courtesy.
- 5/5
Awesome !!! The best place in NYC!!!
- 4/5
Another mention to the staff. Good people from bartenders to door guy.

Broken air conditioning. No solution provided.
- 5/5
I love the staff there
- 5/5
Great place to stay in the east Village. The staff is exceedingly gracious and helpful.
- 5/5
The physical property was lovely, what made the place special was the staff. Everyone was wonderful, friendly, welcoming.
- 5/5
Absolutely the best stay in NY! A bit pricy but worth every single cent I paid! Excellent staff who actually care about you as a guest of The Standard. Definitely will return!
- 5/5
Great find. Will stay here next time in town.
- 5/5
Nice place to visit
- 5/5
Amazing stay at The Standard EV as always! The staff was excellent especially - Lee, Diva, Tiff, Dom & Rudy!
- 3/5
I stayed at this hotel a couple times after it opened, and the quality has seriously declined since then. There are areas where obvious repairs need to be made, the food and drink has slipped significantly, and it overall needs attention.
- 1/5
Hotel didn’t seem least bit concerned. Shrugged it off as if that was normal. Meanwhile I was terrified.
- 4/5
Great location. Tiny rooms. Two people in a full bed is not ok. Really only good for one person. Not sure why TV was on a rolling stand that takes up space instead of on the wall.
- 5/5
Angel the manager made our stay exceptional! Friendly staff great food and location!
- 5/5
The room was clean and comfortable. Everything was pretty much fine.
- 5/5
The room was clean and comfortable. Everything was pretty much perfect. The restaurant could have had a few more choices for dinner available.
- 5/5
Great stay
- 5/5
The staff went above and beyond to make my stay a pleasant experience. From the front desk to the bar staff. I was very impressed!
- 5/5
Hallways and elevators seem somewhat dated. I can't figure how to get to the back restaurant- I'm sure instructions are available, but it just doesn't feel very inviting. It looks nice when you look at it from the outside... Overall, I really enjoyed my hotel stay, the one thing that would really make it better is being able to screen share from my laptop to the TV. There really isn't any way to do it through the Wi-Fi.
- 1/5
So, I promptly requested a refund & found another hotel. And btw, rooms are really shabby - much better hotels around that actually have nice staff
- 5/5
Loved the Standard. Awesome vibe and staff. Room was spacious with a shower and tub. Had a great and relaxed breakfast the next morning at the hotel. 10/10 recommend.
- 5/5
Great hotel, love the location and the vibe
- 5/5
Especially beautiful treed garden. Very comfortable bed.
- 4/5
I would have read it. Excellent if it wasn’t for the strange smell.
- 5/5
Great location, nice restaurant and bar, room was nice and comfy.
- 3/5
Loved everything except our room (which I paid an upgrade fee for). I had a non-existent view (lower floor AND overlooking a dark alley). I was paying for the view - really unhappy that my daughter’s first nyc trip involved a significant miss in the expectation set by the hotel itself
- 4/5
Cons: The hotel room is just so tiny. It always felt weirdly a bit humid...even with the AC blasted the whole time. Blackout shades great except for the tiny corners you can't shut all the way so the bright light seeps in. The shower curtain (as cool looking as it is) does not keep water from getting on the bathroom tile. It makes no sense. The TV service goes in and out. I don't know if I'd stay there again, but it was a good stay, nonetheless.
- 5/5
The hotel is always superbly clean and maintained but above all the staff is warm and inviting. Highly recommend to whether going solo or with the fam. Don’t think it’ll ever stay at another hotel when I’m in the city. LOVE
- 5/5
The staff was very excellent. They were extremely friendly and always helpful. The bed was super comfortable and room made up perfectly every day. Will definitely return.
- 5/5
Always will stay here when I visit NYC!!!!
- 5/5
Excellent hotel, clean, modern with very friendly helpful staff, great location walking distance from East Village and Greenwich Village.. would definitely stay again!
- 5/5
Always such an amazing experience. The rooms are perfectly maintained but what really stands out is the STAFF!!! They are all so kind and genuine. Recommend to all.
- 4/5
Great hotel and staff, clean and comfortable.
- 5/5
The staff was amazing
- 3/5
The Staff and service were amazing and attentive. The rooms definitely need a renovation. No more dirty carpets, torn bedsheets and lumpy mattresses. Time for owners to spend some money.
- 4/5
Great stay overall. Great location. Food + drinks + staff were great (both at the cafe and bar). The hotel was empty but thats not my problem. It was fine for a small, boutique, well-branded, NYC hotel — obviously this is not a resort but it gets the job done!
- 5/5
It was a good stay but the noise I can here from other rooms is annoying.
- 5/5
Best stay in the East Village. Modern, unique classic hotel that still shines!
- 5/5
I will come back and stay again.
- 5/5
The customer service was amazing !
- 5/5
I wish the room was a bit bigger
- 5/5
This translated into very happy guest not only for herself but everyone we met. I can't see staying anywhere else.
- 5/5
Beautiful room (the bathroom was particularly spacious and light-filled), great location, super friendly staff and the cafe downstairs has really delicious menu items.
- 5/5
The staff were always friendly from check in to each return. The room had a spectacular view from the 18th floor. There was complementary beer and water. The only odd note was no tea and coffee maker. Our second stay and it won't be our last.
- 4/5
Super friendly staff and nice facility. We were there for the Pride Weekend so the prices were too high for the property value. At a better price point ,we would stay there again. Very quiet rooms and staff was perfect.
- 5/5
The room had a great view and was extremely comfortable. The staff was helpful and friendly. Great location.
- 4/5
However, there are two weaknesses that need improvement: - Our bathroom needs renovation. - The rooms are very small (even though we had a “Premium Room”)
- 5/5
Staff was amazing
- 5/5
Also, Cafe Librae next door is excellent. Harold Himelman
- 5/5
Beautiful view in an east facing corner room 12th floor
- 5/5
The sheets and tub were worth the price.
- 5/5
All good
- 4/5
Clean and very comfortable beds. We were on the 3rd floor and calling it a corner room with 2 walls of windows is quite a stretch. It was quiet and the bathroom was large. Appreciated the bottled water and maid service did an excellent job. Offering coffee in the lobby from 5am-7am is useless to most, maybe take that to 9am?
- 5/5
Modern, clean rooms. A dresser would have been nice since we were there four nights. Restaurant and outside bar area was nicely appointed, staff very friendly and food was tasty.
- 5/5
I would definitely stay there again. The only complaint I have is I requested earlier check in because we arrived by train, they gave us a room right in front of the elevator, when we had paid for a nicer room.
- 5/5
Excellent experience all around. The hotel feels very “private” while being in the middle of all the action in one of the best neighborhoods for visiting New York. The Deluxe King room on 12th floor with the east side city view through big a floor to ceiling window was very comfortable, peaceful well designed. Sha at the front desk deserve especial recognition - friendly, professional and very helpful, and went above and beyond to ensure that my one night stay at the hotel was comfortable and memorable. Thank you, Sha!! Lee was also very courteous and helpful with my luggage. I would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Professional and clean
- 5/5
Too dark and too many mirrors inside the elevators😅
- 5/5
Wonderful service. Great location with lots of style!
- 5/5
Perfect location for events in NYU and downtown area. Easy to grab a bite or drinks right at the hotel. Great restaurants nearby. Access to several subway lines to make it easy yo get around the City.
- 1/5
They charged me 35 per day. I did not know this was going to happen.
- 4/5
Great location!! Very close to NYU, which is what we needed. Very comfortable beds and we had a nice view.
- 5/5
Great location and helpful and friendly staff! I would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Love The Standard experience!
- 5/5
We had a wonderful stay! Great Location and Service :)
- 5/5
Great location, staff and cleanliness
- 5/5
Great
- 4/5
comfy beds. the price - value ratio is not the best, the property looks a little weary i expected a little more for standard hotel.
- 5/5
Amazing experience at the Standard, the hotel is very cool and the staff is excellent !
- 4/5
Our room was much smaller than expected - even by New York standards - but it was clean. I had booked a corner room which promised a view; however, the view was of rooftops and smokestacks. That said, we spent so little time in the room that the lack of view didn't matter. We had one dinner at the hotel. The wait staff was fabulous and we were seated right away, despite not having a reservation. I ordered what was supposed to be a baked pasta dish but when it arrived, the pasta was undercooked and it just had some plain red sauce on it. The waiter immediately brought me a new one, but overall I was disappointed with my meal. My husband enjoyed his meal, as well as his drink. I wish there was an option to give a 4.5 star rating, because other than the lack of view from the room, and the disappointing meal, we really had a nice stay. We would recommend this hotel to anyone and hope to be back again during a time of year when the outdoor garden is open because it looked lovely.
- 2/5
there was a staff member that was very rude
- 2/5
They did not give us the room we had paid for. Gave us a really poor room and they switched us to the room we paid for at the last night. I would rate the property a 2 star and definitely not a luxury hotel.
- 5/5
Amazing hotel and friendly staff never had an issue and everything went smoother than expected. Even gave me a treat for my birthday
- 5/5
Great stay! I would stay here again.
- 5/5
It was very pleasant
- 2/5
I had to ask 4x the front desk to send an extra blanket to the room. The room kind of sucks for what you pay for. At least this room did. Shower setup was terrible, not a great shower experience. AC was problematic. Card keys worked when they wanted to. Overall the hotel needs some TLC after 15+years. Nowhere close to what it once was which is a shame b/c the EV lacks a good hotel.
- 3/5
Room was very small and had too much furniture so it was hard to walk around the bed. No coffee facilities in room or lobby. Staff was friendly and cheerful.
- 5/5
All the staff were friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make our stay wonderful! Thank you!
- 5/5
This property was very well kept and the people helping us were incredibly pleasant. Would definitely stay at The Standard again.
- 5/5
Convenient location to NYU. Can hear everything in the room. Thanks for the ear plugs that come with the room!
- 5/5
We were in NY visiting our son - great location , well appointed room staff was excellent - friendly , helpful and kind .

Phenomenally safe and convenient location. The corner king rooms have a decent amount of space and lovely natural light. Some members of staff were happy to bring my food deliveries to the door, others suggested I pick them up at the front desk. Grown alchemist products were nice. Housekeeping was attentive.

Room was meh. Dated and bed was kind of gross considering how expensive the room was. Everything is old and random extension cords all over.

Not bad but not the greatest. Older property. Even for the price the rooms are small. No smart TV. Odd smell in bathroom. Would not stay again.

The rooms are NYC tiny but staff friendly and helpful, charming restaurant area with good food and drinks. No real amenities but out so much in the city they weren’t missed. Too small to stay with anyone but your loved one.
