The hotel is praised for its friendly and helpful staff, great location, and unique, modern design. However, the small room size is a consistent complaint, and some guests express frustration with hidden fees and poor service at the hotel's bar and restaurant.

From the moment we entered our room, the floors were noticeably wet. At first, we were unable to determine the source of the water. However, after taking a shower, it became clear that the shower was not draining properly. The water quickly overflowed from the bathroom and began flooding the room. Given the compact size of the room, the flooding spread throughout the space and soaked many of our personal belongings. We attempted to manage the situation using the towels provided, but they quickly became saturated with dirty water from the flood. We immediately brought the issue to the attention of a Moxy employee named Ocean. Unfortunately, we were never moved to a different room. My fiancé provided his cell phone number to Ocean but again we never heard back. While we understand that occupancy limitations can occur, we were disappointed that no meaningful accommodation, alternative solution, or assistance were made. The most concerning aspect of this experience occurred later that evening. While getting up during the night to use the restroom, I slipped on the wet floor and towels that had been placed down to contain the flooding. As a result, I fell and struck my left knee on the ground. This was not only painful but also a serious safety concern that could have resulted in a much more significant injury

Clean room attentive employees. Great location...24 hr grocery, happening billard hall, music venue, shopping, movie theater, dining/drinking options, & good breakfast place all within one city block, yet it was quiet in the room. Good coffee just outside of the lobby. Can't ask for much more.

Rooms were a joke is you were only staying for a night with a rucksack then okay but for 3 or more than you are screwed for space. 2 people in the bed then one of you has to literally climb over the other to get out. The worst part was the noise into the early morning and we were on the top floor.

Upon arrival, the room was clean and nice. I only stayed for one night, but I would love to stay longer next time. I will say my only criticism is that the sink water: I passed a napkin through the running water & it came out dark, so I wouldn’t suggest washing your mouth with it; instead, bring your own bottled water. They do have water bottles in the room, but you’ll be charged $7 a bottle, and who knows how long those waters sat there before me as they were lukewarm. But other than that, nice location to stay in. Also, their breakfast selection was really good (it’s not free), just an fyi. Other than that, it's a great location to stay if you’re coming to NY.

The location was great and the room was comfortable and clean. I think the bar lounge should have been open earlier and the water dispenser provided 24/7. I also think the hotel (though not their responsibility) should clean up the garbage near their entrance.

Great location in the East Village. Very convenient to NYU, Union Square, and Washington Square Park. On weekends there is a very loud and very busy music venue directly across 11th Street and if your room is on the front of the hotel facing 11th Street you will hear complete pandemonium from about 2am to 4am. Loud crowds and tons of honking cars as that place shuts down in the wee hours. I would stay here again but only if there’s a room available on the back side of the building.

Bed was uncomfortable, room was small, but that wasn't the main issue. People want one main thing from a hotel - a place to sleep. That was not provided due to an extremely loud grinding sound from the air conditioner. It was 90 degrees in NYC that day so turning it off was not an option (I tried). I asked them to fix it. When it was not fixed when I returned to the room to sleep at 10:30 pm I called down - they said they would send someone as soon as possible. At 2am when no one had yet come I called again because sleep was impossible. Someone finally came and oiled it or something which reduced (not eliminated) the noise. It took me another 45 minutes to fall back to sleep, and the bright early June sunrise woke me just over 2 hours later due to the lack of blackout curtains. I was traveling to present at a conference and had gotten almost no sleep. The hotel did not offer me a refund even though they did not provide me a place where sleep was possible. If they had fixed it earlier or sent someone at 10:30 pm it could have worked.

I went downstairs and was assigned a new room. When I told them what was wrong with my current room, I could see that they were suspecting it was dirty when they assigned it, however were hoping to get lucky and I would not notice/care? Overall the hotel is OK. Not sure I appreciate the shabby/chic look, especially for the price it costs. Rooms were tiny! Floors were concrete and although appeared to be clean, not sure if they were. Hotel does not provide slippers for guests so the whole time walking on the floor was pretty gross. We asked for a toothbrush-they said they were out. Overall, I would rate this hotel a C at best. Maybe worth it when it was $200/night, however at current rate, way overpriced!!! Will not be staying here again.

The location is fantastic and is surrounded by tons of great restaurants and bars in the East Village as well as with easy access to the subway. The room was clean though there were a few maintenance issues. There was water coming up from between cracks in the floorboards. I think it may have been condensation from the AC unit from the room below us (though not totally sure). It was very unpleasant to end up with wet socks when trying to walk from the bed to the bathroom. Also noticed that the black varnish on the bathroom sink faucets was coming off, so any time I tried to turn the water on/off I would end up with black smudges on my hands, which is pretty annoying immediately after washing them.

Great position, great shower, good value, smart compact comfortable room. The TV and Wifi was down in my room for 3 days in my room - I contiusly asked to have it fixed, finally on my last night at 11pm they moved me to a different room with working TV and Wifi, turns out no one had looked at the problem and it was not something that could easily be fixed, should have been moved on day one!!! Ruined my stay. First room was also extremely noisy and could hear everything that went on in the hallway outside and constant door opening and closing.

Only one member of the staff was not a good person to received the clients, not helpful person, didn’t take care of the people in a nice way. The rest of the staff was excellent. In my case she was being a bad person, I ask for my car, I paid 90 dollars for valet parking, next day I asked for my car and she told me 45 minutes to wait, and I told her how come it was going to be so long. And she say this was the time. She finished with me, then took care of the next customer, after she finished taking care of him, I asked her if she already called for the car, and she told me she was waiting for them to come to the hotel to tell them to pickup the car, I asked her to called them, and ask why she didn’t call, and her answer I was taking care of a customer, and the story go on. And wasn’t a nice feeling in my side.

Rooms are highly efficient, with a nice seat and integrated desk, HOWEVER this was not present. Resulted in an empty room with a bed. Did manage to change room. Room shouldn't been offered, as it lacked a basic chair and table for a >$300/night room. It's normally already an "efficiently organised" room, but without the desk and chair its basically an empty small room with a bed. There is no room service, and the bar or access to restaurant was closed for a private event. No possibilities for a drink or even water. This makes the hotel offering at a one star, as no facilities are available where they are offered at point of sale. Responds was poor as well: come back next time, but be aware we are often booked for private events, i.e no facilities to a bar or even any drink service.

The location was great for us, the staff very nice. The room was quite large and the bed was comfortable with good sheets. I liked all the hooks on the walls so we could hang our stuff versus setting it on the floor or cluttering surfaces. Despite all the hooks on the walls in the bedroom, there was not a single hook to hang a towel or bathrobe from near the shower or sink! The shower door had a towel holder, but if you open the door to get in the shower, the water soaked the towel. The floor was a bit gritty and had not been well vacuumed. The toilet was very low to the ground and the toilet paper holder bumped into my husband's knees while sitting on it (he's only 6 feet tall).

The room was clean and comfortable but tiny. One side of bed was against the window. Free coffee in morning was good. Our room heat/Ac stopped working at one point but maintenance came pretty quickly and fixed. The biggest issue was the noise on the street outside at 3:30am -4:30am when local clubs were closing. Lots of loud people and honking horns. Kept me awake for an hour, both nights. I guess that’s not the hotel’s fault but don’t stay here if you need quiet to sleep or bring your earplugs.

A/C not working in room and 80 degree even after helpful staff tried to fix. Switched us to a different room that already had people staying in it. How embarrassing trying to open a hotel door at 11pm to find people already there wondering why you are trying to get in. They put us in another room only to find long strands of someone else’s hair on the pillow, gross! Nightclubs downstairs, next door and across the street mean if you have a room on street side you’ll hear nothing but obnoxious honking and party people. The incessant honking and “move your F’ing car” will last from 3-4:15 am every morning. Tiny rooms without anywhere to sit but the bed. No nightstand, table or anywhere to put stuff conveniently. 3 inch deep sinks that are absolutely terrible. This hotel is meant for young hipsters and is nothing like a normal hotel. If you’re over 30 stay somewhere else. You will seriously regret it like us. I’m 57 and my son is 18. I’ve travelled the world extensively and this was one of the most disappointing hotels yet. It’ll work for a bed, toilet and shower but that’s it. Very nice staff but unfortunately nothing they can do to make up for all the problems. If your middle aged this place is not for you.

No reminder sent in advance of attempting to take out the required deposit for our stay, which we had booked months in advance (issue was conversion rate meant maximum withdrawal amount needed increasing, but could only be done our end). We were in transit when contact was made (on the day of the stay) and couldn’t check messages due to that. Arrived late at night to discover our stay had been cancelled because we hadn’t replied to their messages (we were literally on an airplane!) Left us with a big problem of trying to find a room at 10pm on a Thursday night in NYC! Staff weren’t helpful in enquiring at other Moxy hotels on our behalf to help us find a room for that first night, even though we were still due to stay with them for over a week from the following night. We ended up taking our business elsewhere, stayed at Moxy Lower East Side for the entirety of our stay and they were fantastic.

Just an FYI - the rooms are TINY and the combined toilet room/shower with sink in living room leave little to be desired. The person sleeping closest to the window has to literally crawl over the other person to get up. Also - the additional taxes/fees/ETC added an extra $40/day which was not originally disclosed but that is probably the same for all NYC hotels. The room was clean and had cleaning service every day so that was nice.

The room was tiny but that is to be expected in NYC. The bummer was that the thermostat in the room didn’t work. No matter how hard that fan spun, the room was hot and muggy. I tried to call downstairs but the phone didn’t work. And the hand soap dispenser was broken. Made me wish I had stayed at the Hyatt at Union Square two blocks away…

Quick one night stay here. Check in was easy and they had my room as requested (away from elevator/quiet). Rooms are quite small, but for 1 person in NYC, perfectly adequate. Good bed and bedding, good soundproofing for the windows, I faced the street, didn't have any issues with street noise over night. Like that there are multiple food/drink options in the property, makes it easy to grab a bite or drink. Also liked that they had a handy little clothing steamer in the room! My only complaints would be that the housekeeping can be a bit loud as they start the morning room cleaning, my neighbor checked out early and by 10 am I was fully awake with the cleaning staff next door and in the hallway.

We had a pipe explode in the middle of the night and water came gushing out. Called maintenance Wjile he was banging around had to request to be moved to another room. They offered no compensation for the trouble. Discussed with front desk upon check out. Was told we’d be refunded bar fees, destination fees and half of the room charge. Only compensated $95. Would never recommend this hotel. Also charged us for water we did not take.

Deceptive. When they offer you $20 off at the bar or restaurant for each day of your stay, take them up on it. It ain't a freebie. The $20 comes off the $35-$40 destination fee (or "tax" as the staff called it). This way you at least get some of your money back.

Room was great, staff was great. It was small but there was still room to store our clothes we had to hang up, store 2 large luggage and 2 carry on luggage. Shower was great. If there is an event at Webster Hall across the street and your room is facing the street, you need ear plugs. I must not have read the fine print because when we got there it was explained to us that there would be a $35 per day extra charge for tourism tax. For this, the hotel gave you a $20/day credit and some kind of museum tickets.

There definitely could be some maintenance checks in the rooms though. It was a cold spell while we were there and the rooms were VERY cold despite turning up the thermostat to the max. I did ask for our bed sheets to be changed by housekeeping however they never did so. Otherwise, overall a good place to stay.

There was a small chair/desk that could only accommodate a laptop and nothing more. The staff was very friendly. The elevators took a long time to arrive, possibly due to the high volume of guests over the weekend.

It was super crowed in the lobby which was very small. The one thing that made me choose not to give them 5 stars was the added fees when I arrived. One thing i have a gripe about is when 3 party booking and the hotels are not in sync. Hotels.com do not specify additional fees will be charged once you arrive. I had budgeted the amount that was shown to me including the incidental however, when I arrived The Moly was asking for a destination fee of 40$ I booked 9 rooms. Everything else was amazing. The staff was 10 out of 10. Because it was super busy the 2 elevators were constantly full and the room sizes are very misleading from their website

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed myself. It was a little busy and hectic on Friday and Saturday night, their lobby is quite small but the decor and vibe of the entire place weighs out the chaos. Plus I was there on the weekend of NYE so it didn’t bother me much. The rooms were perfect for a solo traveler, I never heard my neighbors. The heating system was broken but it didn’t bother me really. I really liked the place. More of a party vibe hotel and not as quaint but it didn’t feel as stuffy as some of the other larger chain hotels feel which I appreciated. And they give you $20/day to spend in their bar/cafe. Thank you! Also big shoutout to the staff, everyone there was really cool and helpful.

I expected the room to be cleaned during the day, came home around 4pm after being gone for several hours and requested the housekeeping come before my sister arrived later that night. I left again and came back around 730 still not cleaned. When I called down a third time they let me know the cleaners were gone for the night. For over 400 dollars a night this is not acceptable

This was one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had. I stayed one night on a Saturday, and from around 11 pm to 5 am there was constant loud music, shouting, and car honking from a nearby club or bar. My room faced the street, and the walls felt extremely thin, making the noise impossible to ignore - but this may be less of an issue on weekdays. The hotel also does not allow early check-in without charging $50, not even at 3 pm. Overall, the service and experience were far below acceptable standards, and I would not stay here again.

  • Jacarius Dec 2025 · via hotels.com

I don’t really blame the hotel for this but I do blame hotels.com for not letting me know that the hotel charges a $40 destination charge so when I booked my room, I was under the impression that I was going to have to pay room plus tax, but it was room plus tax plus destination fee, and I was unexpected of that which cut into my budget. The ladies at the hotel were very friendly and very understanding but hotels.com needs to do better.

I have nothing but good things to say about this property and the Moxy. My girlfriend and I checked in November 20 and stayed until November 26th. From beginning to end the staff, the housekeeping, the café and bartenders all treated us with such respect in hospitality like I have not seen in years. Maybe it’s a New York thing. The location of the hotel was spectacular. I was able to get in and out of public transportation within walking distance and in minutes. We were on the corner of an AMC theater and watched a movie on a day where we had not many activities planned. How convenient is that? Even more convenient that restaurants in almost every corner of that location. We’re all satisfyingly delicious. Coffee drinker? The café in the hotel is amazing, the lounge area near the café and the bar are also super comfy and cozy. And lovely. Honestly, the decor is pretty inside. Also, the coffee shops in the surrounding area are chest as fabulous. My room was extraordinarily cozy and had everything I needed. The bed was extremely comfortable, at least for my standards. Waking up and heading out every morning and then returning with my bed made and everything tidied up was a dream. I made sure that I let all the housekeeping people feel appreciated. Thank you Moxy. Honestly for making my trip so incredibly welcoming and convenient. But all the thanks must go to my girlfriend because she talked me out of another hotel that I almost stayed in. Good thing I listened to her.

For 2 people it was tight and you had to crawl over the other person to get out of bed. The people were nice, the room was clean. FYI, the first room we got had a strange odor...I called the front desk and they changed us to a different room...which smelled fine. Sort of hard to overcome that first impression.

This is the 3rd time I have stayed at the Moxy due to the location. It has become increasingly more expensive and now the price outweighs the value significantly. The rooms are extremely small and that is the style of the Moxy line but there is inadequate storage for clothing. They have hooks on the wall but ideally they would have used cubicles on the wall instead for things like socks and underwear. There are openings under the beds for your items but you have to kneel on the floor to access these items. There is also a nightlclub in the hotel and you can hear the loud music coming from it through the night. In addition there were several room charges on my bill that I did not make. Make sure you read your bill carefully. I have had to call back twice now about that. Unfortunately I cannot reccomend the Moxy. The Hyatt Union Square nearby is significantly nicer to stay out however they only have a few rooms with 2 beds in it which is the other reason I have chosen the Moxy for my recent stay and past stays. The rooms at the Hyatt Union square with 2 queens are often sold out.

Property was great! The hotel was clean and is close to multiple Subway stations. We wanted to stay away from Times Square for a more authentic NYC experience. and this location achieved that. It was a bit quieter and lots of food options within walking distance.

Our room did not have a single chair to sit on, it had no mini fridge, and only had a small trash can in the bathroom. We were also put in a handicap room though we did not request such, and so the shower water flowed all over the bathroom floor. Not ideal. Beds were comfortable and overall the staff was great! The cafe/bar by the lobby was nice and convenient in the morning.

Ok, so it's a "trendy" decor, I guess it's supposed to look like graffiti, but I wasn't impressed. The strongest objections I have to the hotel are the design of the bathroom (very little privacy) and there were NO CHAIRS and NO DESK. Where are you supposed to do computer work???? Also I would say very overpriced for what you get, I couldn't leave without one more hidden fee attached. I won't be staying again.

Great place to stay in the East Village - ridiculously expensive for a small room, but in NYC I guess we expect that. We liked the urban/industrial decor and the innovative ways to store our stuff in the small room. Lots of natural light filled the room, but it was really noisy outside on a Saturday night until almost 4AM. Appreciated being able to work in the ABC lounge during the day while waiting to check in.

To start, the cleanliness was unacceptable — when I unfolded the sheets, I found an old bandage stuck to them, which was disgusting. The room itself was poorly equipped: no chair, no refrigerator (a big issue in the summer), and the hotel didn’t even have ice available. The staff was inconsistent — a few were helpful, but others were dismissive and unprofessional. I also had unresolved billing issues. A $50 charge from the Alphabet Bar was added to my room. I disputed it and was told it would be investigated, but nothing was done and I never received a refund. On top of that, a $27 coffee shop charge appeared on my bill, again with no explanation of who used my room number. The pricing was misleading. I paid a premium rate, but the accommodations did not come close to matching the cost. On top of that, the hotel added hidden charges, including a mandatory $40 daily facilities fee and other unclear add-ons. These extras added up to roughly 40% of the base room rate — so if you expect to pay $1,000, the actual bill will be closer to $1,400. Overall, this hotel was overpriced, uncomfortable, and untrustworthy with billing. I will not be returning and cannot recommend it to others.

Recently I shared a room at the Moxy with my two adult kids. The room (queen and a day bed) was perfect for our needs! The friendly front desk staff was warm, welcoming and helpful. The room was clean, the beds very comfy with luxe linens. Best of all, a view of the Freedom Tower from our 11th floor room! I love the Village and the Moxy will be my Go-to hotel for future visits.

The room is tiny, tiny, and compact NYC style. But the several day stay had a comfortable if bare bones feel, and the bed had the best mattress ever -- so much that I tried to see what make it was but it had a covering zipped over it. This was also in an ideal location for what I wanted to do so would probably consider it again in the future.

For the price there are barely any amenities provided. No closet, just 3 clothing hangers and bunch of wall knobs. Not even complimentary water or mini fridge. You can get water and ice from the 2nd floor fitness center, bring a water bottle as the cups they provide are like the ones at the dentist for rinsing. Tip: be careful with using the credit for the $20 destination fee at the cafe, there is an added 15% service charge plus tax. The cafe offerings are way overpriced so you can easily overspend. East Village has famous bakeries and cafes, personally I rather get better pastries and coffee outside the hotel. Not sure if I would return, the first time was fun to experience but I found the hotel more kitschy than hip this time.

We liked everything but the rooms. Just too small. No desk, no chair. The cheaper rooms had one side of the bed against the wall, so if you are more than one person, ask for a room where you can get in the bed on both sides. No closets, but pegs to hang things on. The hallways are very dark, too, but we didn't feel unsafe. The front desk people were wonderful. They even found us a folding chair. No big breakfasts, but a nice little cafe with pastries, yogurt, sandwiches and fancy coffees. Nice bar. Fancy restaurant in the basement, but it was the loudest nice restaurant we've ever been in and we had to leave.

They charge a 35 dollar a day destination charge that we were unaware of. We were told we could use 20 dollars a day credit for restaurants. We ate at the rooftop bar, but never saw a credit on our bill. We also made a reservation at the rooftop bar and within 45 min. we ere told there were other reservations coming at 830 and we would have to leave, I pushed back because the people we were speaking with sitting next to us had earlier reservations, but they weren't asked to leave, just us. The waitress ignored us. I will say her manager was OK, and we probably just could have stayed, but we left anyway. Won't go back.

Outside and nearby venue noise was sometimes an issue. The lighting in our room wasn't ideal with strange switch issues. Example: Could not use the bathroom lights without turning on a master switch that kept all lights on. The room was on the smaller side, although we were not really expecting anything big. This isn't really a negative just a matter of expectations.

Overall unaccomodating staff, didn't do anything to be helpful in resolving certain issues with. the reservation or help with bags. Rooms are minuscule, the decoration looks like a nuclear bomb shelter meets crack house meets studio 54. Other than the view from my window and the location there was nothing I liked about this hotel, but I would ordinarily not leave a review except for the fact that every single encounter i had with an.employee there was remarkably unhelpful. For example- I booked and paid through hotels.com before the trip. when i arrived , they said they needed a cc or debit card for incidental - i asked them for a credit card authorization form and they said they cant do those less than 24 hours in advance (never heard that in my life) i said well i dont have another option other than to send the form or give you the card number and he essentially said too bad - no attempt to help me problem solve - he couldve said pay $50 in cash for the deposit or the rirst night and then ill send the authorization form to you but no - he just stood there while i panicked because of their unusual rules. i have more examples but i actively had an unpleasant time there
