Huge room, pretty sure we got features that weren't listed. Hottub, microwave, fridge. The 70s decor! LOL... that's a personal preference thing. TV channels.. felt a bit old school too... but you don't visit Niagara for the television shows. Plumbing... sounded like every time anyone anywhere had a shower, the water came through our room.

My girlfriend and I have been coming to this Howard Johnson for three years. The location is good and the staff is always kind and friendly. Unfortunately, that’s about it. The room that we had had bedbugs in it. We were moved to another room with dirty sheets. Thus far, we’ve only gotten an email saying they will look into it. Not impressed, especially since my girlfriend and I have been coming to this Howard Johnson for three years.

Karey at the front desk was very accommodating and great with us. She helped us a couple times while it was very busy. My son was sleeping on my shoulder and there was a full lobby so she told us about another elevator to get up to our room so we didn't wake him. It's just little things that make a big difference for us traveling with a baby! Everything was great.

To make matters worse, the windows are clearly outdated and in terrible condition. Cold air was coming straight through them, making it impossible for the room to stay warm. This is something management should already be aware of and should have fixed long ago. Even the bathroom was unbearably cold. We were forced to turn on the shower and use the blow dryer just to create some warmth, which is ridiculous and unacceptable for a paid stay. A hotel room is supposed to be a place to relax and recharge. Instead, this room was uncomfortable, poorly maintained, and frustrating. Management seriously needs to take responsibility and address the heating and window issues, because no guest should have to deal with this. Overall, I was extremely unhappy with this hotel and would not recommend it to anyone. The only reason the stay was tolerable at all is because we had a lot planned and were not in the room very often. If we had spent more time there, this experience would have been even worse. Management needs to do better

The manager was very rude

We were in a room with a possible adjoining room. The doors between are so thin that when the family next door came back to their room at 1:30am it sounded like they were in the room with us. The front desk staff were lovely but I won’t go back and stay there as I have had much better stays at other hotels close by.

Spacious room and newly renovated

Check in was slow, 2 people in front of computers but only one helping guests. Had to pay for parking which I feel is a scam that most hotel in tourist area implement. Plus, having to pay for parking and not being able to find any stinks!! Room was clean, except for the bathroom.. lots of hair in the shower and left over soap from prior guests.

Terrible value. Almost $200 for one night stay. Not a lot is offered not even a toothbrush. They charge $5 for a basic disposable tooth brush. Gross value.

The mini fridge in the room froze EVERYTHING from drinks to food, spoiling our stay ins and forced us to eat out more. When mentioned at check out, the agent was rude to the fact that I hadnt notified them sooner but the damage of ruined food and drinks was already done. Whirlpool was tepid at best (a toddler could, and did go in the tub) Also, parking isnt $20....they tax you on it! An extra $15 it cost which is disgusting when they advertise outside that outsiders can park there for half the price ($10). Wont be staying here again.

Room was on the first floor, next to the linen service area. Very noisy before 7am each morning and the pipes were loud from other guests rooms using the whirlpool tub/shower etc.

I like the pool whirlpool was good. The sauna was pretty good. Location for me is great. Lucky’s car washes down the street. They do not have breakfast there and it’s not free. I would stay again. It’s pretty close to everything. Parking is not included. You will find this in most places on either side of the falls. I had a good stay there slept well pretty quiet.

This wasn’t my first experience at the Howard Johnson. I’ve never had a bad experience until this weekend really. Whoever had cleaned the room didn’t do the best job as The room Mirror on the washroom door was dirty upon arrival then we noticed the sink wasn’t fully cleaned and the water wouldn’t drain right away once it was running. The water would take hours to go down and dirty water would be floating in the sink for a hour at least. I didn’t want to complain as I was really only in the room to sleep, but it just wasn’t the cleanest.Room

The main reason we chose this hotel is because they have the rare heart jacuzzi tub. It was our honeymoon trip so we had to get a little charm of the old "honeymoon capital" feeling. After walking all day in the cold, it was nice to come back to a tub. The location was convenient as well, there is also a Denny's right next door and a Baskin Robbins accessible through the hotel that closed real late! Everyone was super nice as well <3

The room was very clean and staff were helpful and friendly. I was planning to use the Sauna, but it wasn't hot at all. It was impossible to get up to a good temperature with only a 30 min timer to activate the heating coil, which didn't heat up very much at all. The hotel shouldn't be advertising this amenity, I would have choosen to stay somewhere else more competitively priced without a 'Sauna'.

I always stay here when I go to the falls. I was happy with it but just a little depressed in the crappy bankets this time around. Also, the fire alarm kept going off. And word around the hotel that people were just pulling it.

The front desk staff could use some hospitality training ( greeting guests coming and going, asking how stay was upon checkout, etc) . Overall a great option… would stay there again and would recommend to others. We stayed 5 nights and was very happy with our stay overall!

I mean you get what you paid for, I was scared when I saw all these terrible reviews but it’s not as bad as everyone makes it seem the rooms are clean but not 5star they have some wear and tear but other then that no complaints had a lovely two night get away. My one suggestion is bring your own pillow, the ones in my room at least were very uncomfortable but again for the price the hotel is better then some I saw walking downtown if you don’t need a luxury 5 stars hotel then you’ll be more then happy here. Pool was nice just a bit small and gym is also small but wasn’t busy but went during the week on off season. I would book again for the price compared to most hotels downtown and it’s only about a 5 min walk to Clifton hill and 10 to the bottom to see the falls.

They recently began renovations which is necessary. The first room we were assigned had a very strong glue fume smell, to the point where I wasn’t feeling well after a short time. Staff confirmed the carpet was just changed and it was glue fumes. Moved to a non renovated room which was a little musty. Mini fridge didn’t have temperature control and froze our food and we lost out on $$$ there. The pool area was nice. It’d be cool in summer when you can swim to the outdoor part. Whirlpools and sauna was a nice touch. The sauna does not get cleaned properly though. Parking is an additional $20/day and there’s a tourism fee or something of that nature of $3.50 (why bother? Or put it in your room rate). Staff were nice and accommodating. Probably better spots to stay around the same price point but I booked in a rush. Location is within walking distance to Clifton st and the falls.

Me and my partner had a great time at the Howard Johnson. Our room was beautiful and at good pricing as well. We stayed in the Supreme suite and it’s was definitely worth the money. All our reservations and activities we had booked were within walking distance of the hotel. There was a Denny’s, Baskin Robins and Pizza Hut apart of the hotel for any late night munchies. We really had a great weekend away!

Super clean and fresh room, not even musty (everything around the falls is musty) amazing bed, clean jaccuzi tub, clean pool aria, nice staff.free ice. Not one thing to complain about.

Great hotel! Rooms were retro but very clean and large. Pool facilities were great with a nice hot tub and provided pool towels. Close to everything, with own wego stop - you do have to travel the same distance on wego to get back to the hotel from either direction from falls but it's very walkable with food available nearby.

Overall okay, I had higher expectations for the price paid. Reception staff was not very friendly. Room did not even have complimentary water bottles so I had to buy overpriced water from the vending machine. Getting to the hotel was inconvenient as it involves climbing too many stairs/ rocky road to reach there from the falls.

Parking so expensive for guests

Walkable to all the restaurants and attractions in town. I didn’t read the fine-print that there was a car parking fee, but all good. I did ask could we check-out in morn but leave car there till 1pm, and the lady at check-in said no you have to remove car when checking out! But I asked again in the morn when we checked out and that lady was lovely and said yes absolutely - so long as move it by about 1-2pm….. so a good result in the end but wished the check-in lady wasn’t so harsh.

My only actual peave, and I get that rates go up on the weekends, but knowing I stay here week and back agin following week, they could cut me a break on the crazy weekend inflation

This property is close to all the attractions. We were offered to purchase a coupon for Denny’s upon arrival which turned out to be worthless in our group of 5 ppl. I do NOT recommend that coupon. We had to call for towels every day and the rooms could be serviced upon request on day 3 of the stay or incur $25 charge for more frequent requests.

•Beds uncomfortable and stiff •Booked 2 queen bed room which says sleeps 4 adults and was charged an extra $40 due to mistake on booking app. The app only had 2 adult guest scheduled for the room and I was advised at Check In I would be required to pay extra since there were 4 guest staying in the room.(not sure why as the room states the ability to sleep up to 4 adults )I personally will not stay here again due to this extra charge. Now the pros: Nearby to lots of restaurants and shops. Location was walking distance to Clifton hill.

The front desk person who checked me in was so rude. This is the second time I’ve had this person at check in and she’s not nice at all. Never mentioned it before but they are snotty. I’m a frequent guest at this hotel. For the price I always thought it was a great hotel but I’m just not enjoying the experience anymore and won’t be booking this hotel anymore I booked here specifically for their outdoor pool area and it was closed even though the weather was still in the high 20’s.

Yearly trip to Niagara and we select a hotel and get multiple rooms. Howard Johnson was incredibly accommodating and put us all on the same floor and two of my siblings even had adjoining rooms - this was so great. Kids in one room and adults in the other. We will likely use this hotel for our trip next year as we all were happy and the price was reasonable. All of the staff were incredible and friendly as well. Great job!

The rooms are super hot and outdated. AC is super weak and my family was suffering in their hotel room. I can't believe how horrible this hotel is. There was not even soap or basic amenities. I will definitely not come back. Do not recommend to book this hotel at all.

Our stay was ok,i had to buy spray because our room had a smell. We were there for 4 days,it would have been nice to have fresh towels and to have our room cleaned but there was an extra charge of 24.97 for that service.We will not stay there again.

Blankets/sheets are thin. Towels and sheets are also not washed/replaced because the hotel is an “eco hotel” which to me seems like an excuse as there’s no mention of this in the hotels advertising/messaging anywhere until post purchase. The balcony is super small and the width of a person. Not worth the extra incurred cost. The good side of this hotel is it’s got a convenient location to activities.

This is a very clean hotel. I stayed there for the 3rd time. It is close to restaurants, attractions and public transportation. I stayed there for 3 days and the hotel staff was very friendly as usual and helpful.

As mentioned previously, this is a great hotel with clean, cozy rooms with all the needed amenities. Staff are caring. Shopping close, restaurants of every kind right there, and the Falls and attractions nearby. You have it all.

Excellent value for what you get. I love the room decor and the closeness to everything going on at Clifton hills. This is the second Howard Johnson property I’ve stayed at and have always found it to be a great value!

I was an older traveler that hadn't traveled for years, so I was very impressed with the care, dedication and knowledge that was exhibited by all the staff. They truly give 110%.

We found bags, wrappers and garbage in our room upon entry. The room itself had a musk / mold smell. The staff were unwilling to make concessions on parking - despite payment being made, forcing us to leverage overflow parking despite the car being already parked and space being available. After checking out, the hotel continued to bill erroneous charges. The location is great, however this hotel is run down and not worth the cost. Look elsewhere.

I stayed at Howard Johnson hotel and it was a great experience. Quiet, the staff was more than happy to assist with any situation and they are friendly.

The deluxe room had a heart shaped jacuzzi but the jets were not very good at all. Was the main reason we booked this room, very disappointing

I asked for assistance from the front desk to switch our room to a king, and they said they are fully booked. I insisted that we are not comfortable in the room, they transferred me to a manager and magically a king room became available for extra charge of “upgrade” and I paid to switch. Not a good experience at all!

The room was generally clean, but the shower was small and the toiletries provided were not enough for 3 days, including bar soap, which I haven't seen in a hotel for many years. The headboard on the bed had cracked and peeling vinyl and needs to be replaced. One of the buttons controlling temperature on the heater / air conditioner was broken off. There was only one elevator that goes to the 7th floor, and being located by the pool area gets very busy at times causing delays in getting to and from your room if you are on the top floor.

It’s a good place to stay for a short weekend away….it’s very convenient to every thing like the Falls and family activities. It’s clean but it feels a little tired and in need of some improvements. The only thing that I really didn’t enjoy was the mattress. It was very difficult to get a good nights sleep for both my husband and I. I would recommend staying here just know going in what you might expect

On site parking has increased to $20 per day, which is a bit higher than most parking in the area. However, there is something to be said about parking your car in the garage. There are a number of rooms which face the street and have small balconies. There is also a pool that is open to guests. We will continue to visit this hotel during future visits.

They have a great pool for kids but the shower at room the water pressure is so weak for shower. Also, the AC/fan/heat system is very loud.

Clean but Jacuzzi and the iron was not working , room was clean They need to check the appliances in the room and making sure they’re in work in order.

Very clean, run very efficiently by very knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating staff providing suggestions, solutions to issues sometimes of excessive noise from sports groups, etc. Considering what the staff have to deal with such very rude guests, they are amazing.

The hot tub is dirty, there are molds and the orange liner on the bed is not clean it has white stuff in it, the microwave is nit clean, tv is not even working no youtube or anything its useless

Amazing place as always!

Pool and hot tub were very clean...area both indoors and out kept up very well. We had a king bed and sofa bed. Have to say the King bed was Not very comfortable. I would highly suggest getting a queen room

For the value of the room and the type of room and the location I would give this 5 star. Every other hotel is way overpriced. And this hotel room offers a very comfortable, clean room to sleep in. If you're trying to have a luxurious room and you're planning to spend all your time in the room, then maybe spend a lot more money.Somewhere else?But if you're looking for a good, comfortable night to sleep, somewhere in a good area near the falls, this is a great hotel. Also with my Expedia points, I collected and being a gold member. I was able to pay very little for the room. Only $99 after-tax and I got the best king size room. Very valuable for the money. I will visit here again thank you.

Room had a very musty smell

It was a very nice stay. Everyone was friendly and someone was always at the desk. Room and bathroom was clean. Was not a luxury hotel, but was a great price and close to everything. It was exactly what we were looking for. We parked the car and never needed to use. Bus stop for attractions was right in front of building. Dennys for breakfast was right next door and had great food. Very walkable area and safe. Would recommend!

I liked the location of the hotel, but there was black mold in the shower, and the AC unit was not all affixed to the wall.

Great location

It was an enjoyable stay. They were accommodating when our plans changed and we needed an extra day. The room originally booked was unavailable for the extra night so we had to check out and change rooms and our luggage was kept in a secure place until room was ready. We were able to visit the area without tugging our luggage around. Very quiet and close to Clifton Hill and the falls. Right on bus route.
