Parking was easy and check in really quick. I will visit again later when I have more time to spend. Thanks.

We so wanted to give Lookaway Inn not just a 10, but an 11 or 12 (See next comment box). The Inn itself is a magnificent facility, and its location couldn't have been more convenient. John, the Innkeeper, was so cordial and welcoming, even though we arrived a half-hour late. I thoroughly enjoyed our baseball discussion. The breakfast ladies could not have been friendlier. We miss the traditional pre-Covid Bed and Breakfasts where the wonderful breakfast was served. Based on the pictures and the comments in booking.com, we expected a wonderful sit-down breakfast. We were underwhelmed. On the plus side, the omelet I was served was outstanding. However, having my breakfast entree served on a side plate with nothing else was a real disappointment. That omelet deserved hash browns (grits for real Southerners) and some bacon strips. There was a buffet table of cold items, but even that was sparse. I realize that there were very few guests, but still...... Overall, we had a great time, though, and would consider returning in the future.

John is exceptionally welcoming — and knowledgeable about the location and history of this beautiful mansion. Linda was warm, hospitable, and clearly proud of this beautiful property. My room was well appointed, comfortable, and convenient to the amenities. I cannot say enough about the bed! Room darkening drapes, cool temps and a wonderful mattress..best sleep ever away from home! I had no control over the air conditioning temperature and it was too cold overnight and in morning. But….there was a great warm blanket in the armoire that kept me warm enough for a great night’s sleep!

The inn was beautiful from the grounds to the decor. The furnishings were period authentic and absolutely beautiful. John messaged with specific instructions helping our late checkin go smoothly. Parking was easy also. Breakfast was delicious as it is cooked as ordered. The towels were thick and nice. There were several benches and tables throughout the grounds for enjoying the outdoors. If you are looking for a charming getaway, this is the place. It was also within 15 minutes of some of Augusta's fun attractions like Top Golf, Dave and Busters and a movie theater. We definitely will be staying here again.

The innkeeper John was very conscientious and attentive. He served our breakfast and shared information about the area. The temp in our room was quite cool. It was fine once we were in bed, but quite chilly when showering and dressing. He admittted that the weather had just turned cool and he had yet to adjust for heating.

Lynda was the perfect hostess. She anticipated that we would need a first floor room without my asking. The property was accessible to my parents who have mobility issues. The property has beautiful landscaping and the fellow guests were a delight to talk to at the morning breakfast. The dining room was well attended by staff. The setup of this inn is simple and doesn't require a hike to the parking lot, which is ideal if you have a lot of luggage. I'd recommend this inn to anyone staying in the area for a night or two. Bed was comfortable, room was clean, and the shower had great water pressure. Basic toiletries like shampoo/soap/makeup remover were provided.

I was extremely disappointed with my recent interaction with this hotel. I informed the manager, John, a few hours before check in, that I was traveling with my service animal, who is legally permitted to accompany me anywhere, and I was shocked at being told that I could not bring her to the hotel. Despite explaining that this was a trained service animal, not a pet, John refused to accommodate me. He asked for proof of my dog's certification which showed a complete lack of understanding of the law. The ADA guidelines for service animals state that certification and licenses are not required and therefore are not needed to access a public place. John then went on to say, "We have a no pets allowed policy and if you bring your service dog then the other guests will assume that they can bring their pets as well." My dog is not a pet. She is a necessary "piece of equipment" to assist me in my daily activities. Hopefully John never tells a guest they can't bring their wheelchair, cane or oxygen tank into his hotel! Traveling is already stressful enough without having to fight for basic respect and legal rights. This experience left me feeling unwelcome and discriminated against. Not only was it inconvenient, since we had to find another hotel after being in the car for 10+ hours, but it was also deeply disrespectful and in clear violation of ADA regulations. Avoid if you need and rely on a service animal.

It was a good stay except the bed was very old and firm, and noisy, gave me a terrible Back ache. Room 114. Breakfast was the usual continental breakfast with cooked to order eggs and sausage, nothing special. The breakfast cook was very nice and friendly. The house was very interesting with beautiful woodwork. For the money I would think decent beds would be a given, but I was wrong. We were in the Inn behind the house. The beds in the main house felt very nice when we toured the house. So try to get one of those rooms.

Pros: A charming, plantation-style manse with the big columns. We stayed in a ground floor room that was very spacious (it was meant for patrons with mobility issues). Our host was gracious. The breakfast was delicious, a combination of buffet (including Pop Tarts!) and eggs cooked to order with sausages. Location was great -- not so far off the highway. And for some reason, the price was the same as some of the big soulless corporate hotels (though I'm pretty sure that the price would go up when there's a PGA event in town). All around, a really nice stay! The only con I can think of is the bed was firmer than we like. That's personal preference, of course, but I think Lookaway would do well to invest in even a 2-3 inch memory foam mattress pad. But honestly, that's my only beef.

If you are ever in the Augusta area, staying in South Augusta is a clever idea. Beautiful small town, with a lot of great dining places to choose from. And staying at the Lookout is an absolute no-brainer. An amazing bed-and-breakfast type property, it's really the former Mansion of the founder of the town. It has been converted to a small hotel, with all modern amenities, but it keeps its character - which is unusual. Our bedroom was enormous and perfectly furnished. Even better, John - one of the owners who also manages Lookout - is an interesting and gracious host. He oversaw breakfast, and we had a great conversation that made is feel welcomed.. If we are ever in Georgia again, we now know where to stay.

John was very cordial and welcomes us as we came in the front door. He showed us our room which was off to the side of others. Room was beautiful and furnished with period pieces. The bed was very comfortable and room was quiet. (There were only 2 other guest staying there). Bathroom was huge and stocked with assorted amenities. Shower/tub combo. The shower head probably needed to be replaced and the shower shut off valve adjusted because there was very little pressure for the shower and most of the water filled up the tub. Renovations were on tap for that room as mentioned to us by Linda, who took care of us during the morning breakfast. Basically a serve yourself style breakfast with eggs cooked to order by the attendant (Linda, who was very nice and very helpful and informative about the mansion). Overall , I gave an excellent rating on everything simply because we enjoyed ourselves aside from the minor issues.( TV was stubborn cause I couldn’t change channels, but this was before we went to sleep, so no worries). Enjoy the history of this wonderful Inn and enjoy N.Augusta SC . Thank you John and Linda. Sincerely, Mark Cyrus

I wanted a short trip from home to see the fall leaves. An overnight trip to a bed and breakfast seemed perfect. The place was well kept. Our host, John, cooked up a great omlet. Unfortunately, the leaves did not cooperate. John told us that the best would be 4 more hours north which was too far from home for us. I highly recommend staying here if you are in the area.

Very clean, comfortable bed. The only issue we ran into was upon our return to the hotel one night, there was no parking. We weren’t sure what to do as we’re not from the area and didn’t know if street parking was allowed. We finally saw some cars parked on the street about a block up and determined we’d be fine. This was around 11pm otherwise we’d have called the inn. Aside from that all was smooth.

Fantastic! Would stay here every time I go to Augusta! John, his wife and the staff are as friendly as can be. We’re not bougie so I’m sure it may not be for everyone but if you’re looking for a place to feel like home (and a historical one at that), then this is your place! Had late night drinks and snacks on the patio by the fountain that we bought at nearby grocery store and great conversation at breakfast in the morning. Pleasant stay!

After a harrowing Airport Car Rental experience ( they ran out of cars so, along with many other people, we had to wait 4 hours for a car) we called the Inn proprietor to say that we would arrive much later than planned. We were sent instructions of how to get into our room etc. When we arrived and got into our room it was so welcoming and cosy it was just what we needed. The bed was so comfortable. We went to the house for breakfast and it was beautiful the whole place was amazing. John was a lovely host and made us lovely fresh coffee( I am a very fussy coffee drinker) this coffee was great. We also had a lovely breakfast. We will go back.

We highly recommend the Lookaway Inn. It has been beautifully maintained with all of its southern charm. It’s very convenient to Augusta National and Green Jackets Stadium. The Innkeeper was so friendly and had a wealth of knowledge about the area and helpful with any questions we had. We will definitely stay there again if in the area.

Lookaway made for a perfect stop to rest after too many hours in the car travelling. We rested, then walked around the premises, enjoyed the national park, then toured the architecture of North Augusta as well as the Riverwalk on the Savannah River. Refreshing and so beautiful. THE Lookaway takes us back to the 1900s and our host and hostesses are so kind to share. Let's do this again!!

I enjoyed staying here very much! Beautiful property and home. The room is very spacious, beautifully decorated, and the bed was super comfy. The next morning I was made some of the yummiest scrambled eggs I’ve ever eaten!

The staff are exceptionally nice and accommodating. For example they have shared tickets to the Morris Art museum and to a nearby evening ball game. Its location is ideal for traveling into downtown Augusta or visiting sites in North Augusta and nearby areas such as Aiken. A lovely breakfast with a fine assortment of foods/beverages is included and available to be eaten in the beautiful dining room in the main historic home with eggs and pancakes cooked to order. To sum it up, this is our favorite place to stay when we visit north Augusta and we will continue to return. We highly recommend this inn to anyone looking for a nice, quiet, well situated and accomodating place to stay.
