Reviews
Guests generally appreciate the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms, as well as the friendly and helpful staff. However, there are consistent complaints about the high cost of parking and the lack of safety in the surrounding area.
- Clean and comfortable rooms
- Friendly and helpful staff
- High cost of parking
- Unsafe surrounding area

Very clean place to stay, not so quiet but understandable considering the location. I’d suggest using Valet parking, super easy drop off.

Shower curtain torn near circular attachments to closure was not good which meant water on the floor more than safe. Pull out bed was cute but not functional as sitting was awkward. Good space in the workout room. Excellent service at Bistro!

The coffee was good at the café in the morning. The valet Jose was friendly and helpful. Location around the property was pretty rough

The young lady who checked us in was amazing. She was professional, helpful and sweet. There was a mix up with our room. We reserved 2 queen size beds and when we got to our room discovered that there was only a king size bed. I immediately called down and the young lady immediately took care of everything. All of the staff that we encountered was professional and friendly. I will definitely come back to this particular Hotel whenever I’m in town.

However, I noticed that there is still a hold on my credit card, which has been in place for almost a week since my checkout. The gentleman at the front desk mentioned it should be removed within 3 to 5 business days, so I’m curious about the delay. I left everything in the same condition as when I arrived. The room itself felt a bit gloomy; the carpet appeared dark and damp. Additionally, the hotel lacks amenities, aside from a pool that, while decent, was somewhat difficult to access from my location within the building. Also, breakfast is not complimentary, which was a bit disappointing. Thank you for considering my feedback.

The hotel was about 2 blocks from the 12th St / Oakland BART station. The area was very walkable, and was close to Oakland Chinatown. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable. The decor was a bit dated, but everything seemed functional. Wifi was fine. My room was quite spacious, so that was appreciated. The gym was a bit above average. Some front desk staff could have been more attentive, but others were professional and helpful. The highlight of my stay was the popcorn machine they had in the lobby in the evening. Overall, a good stay. I would definitely consider this hotel again in the future.

Front desk lady needs to work on her attitude

I loved this property ! The gym and pool were awesome. The atmosphere is great and love that they have valet!!!! The room was super nice and they sent pushy see check out if you need a few minutes due to the fact that the luggage carts are low in number. They are all so nice and friendly. We will definitely stay again!!!

Clean room. Missing USB outlets for phones. No bathrobes. Staff were super friendly.

Location to Bart was excellent. Felt safe. Staff was amazing Pool was overrated, no hot tub.. Limited sunshine. Needs were ok, but not horrible. Had to call down for clean towels

I did not like the prices for parking and that the breakfast was not included in the price of the hotel. For those reasons I will not be staying again.
- 3/5
Room has poor insulation, you can hear sound from other rooms. We had an accessible room, the water pressure in the shower was SO low that you can barely shower, it's the worst I have experience in any US hotels. Hotel was right in the center of Oakland Chinatown, so many restaurants to try. Daytime seems to be ok, but after 6pm, it is NOT safe to walk around, and everything seems to be closed.
- 4/5
Convenient location. Heard a lot of traffic noise.

The location was very good. with good local transport accessible. The breakfast was OK. There are plenty of restaurant and food places near by. I was asking for two beds plus a sofa bed. for three adults. What I got was a King bed and the sofa bed, and the sofa bed was terrible so much so that I have to ask to change the room. For that change I was charged 30$ per night. The room air conditioner was very loud and other hotels offer Netflix and Youth tube, but this does not.

Great Check-in
- 3/5
The staff was friendly. The bathtub was visibly dirty, and the tissue box on the sink was wet and the tissues inside were wet. Apparently when you run the water in the sink it wets the counter and causes the tissue box to get wet all the tissues.
- 4/5
The rooms are definitely in need of a deep clean, and a thorough going over by maintenance. Lots of broken things. Starting to feel rundown.

Courteous staff, well maintained. Only problem was valet parking was full all weekend and we had to find parking elsewhere which was stressful in a high crime area
- 5/5
This is a great hotel. The staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The hotel isn’t too big which is an advantage, and it is a little old, but it is clean and has all the essentials that you would need including a restaurant and a small gym. It is only a few minutes walk from the train station.

This was my first time in Oakland and if we are ever back in the area, we will stay here again. It was clean, staff was friendly, beds were comfy, just what we needed.

I intentionally moved from proper San Francisco hotel to this hotel so that we could take breakfast before taking our tour. The experience was utterly disappointing and hope the property should compensate us for this last minute closure of their bristo facility. They also don't provide any water at the rooms. We were informed that these are provided to members only.
- 1/5
It was the worst place to be, there was no breakfast. They did not send service to clean the room for our second night. There was not enough towel to use. TV remote didn’t have battery and we requested few times until they brought it. The parking was so expensive 55 per night.
- 3/5
The room was on a lower floor so unfortunately the cars on the street could be heard- although that’s not the hotel’s fault. Some of the towels and the couch, as well as the walls had stains which were off putting to see. The walls are also quite thin with the connecting room door. The next room’s ~activities~ could be heard clearly into my room which was very unfortunate. Hotel is a bit older looking inside but at least staff was very friendly. Regularly saw cleaning staff and security which was reassuring.
- 3/5
Room was noisy. Could hear people clomping around all night. Sign in elevator says "happy hour" at 6. There is no happy hour. Bistro is supposed to be open at 5 but still closed at 5:15. Heating wouldn't change no matter what temperature you set it at. Warm water in the shower, never hot water.
- 5/5
The front staff was amazing. Michael from the front desk was great. Diego did valet parking and was so sweet with explaining how it worked and waiting patiently for my friend and i to grab our stuff. We had also ordered door dash to our room and they called us to inform us that our dasher was on their way up to us. Would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Room was very clean and staff were very friendly
- 5/5
Customer service was the best I have seen in years. Such helpful and friendly staff!
- 5/5
Didn’t speak much with staff though I can tell people were real and I appreciate that
- 4/5
An older property, in reasonably good condition, but in need of some repairs and maintenance. Breakfast is not included; limited options were pricy. A microwave in the room would have been a plus. Still, very well situated in downtown, although parking is exclusively valet and very expensive.

Door had a big gap on the bottom half - had to put towels in the way for privacy- The hallways had a heavy smell of mariguana (Pot). The guy that checked us in was a bit rude. Asked if I can use the bathroom upon check in, told wait until I got yo my room. - lots of road noise.

Staff was very friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. The only issues was the price of parking. It came out to $54 for the night; just be aware they charge this fee as well as a $50 deposit on your credit card at check-in.

Everything went well aside from the air conditioning in my room and my family’s room. We had to call the front desk multiple times to get some there because the AC unit was working properly and keep going off
- 4/5
Its downtown in Chinatown area. its not in the best area but its a good condition
- 5/5
Great place to stay, close to BART and Jack London Square. The only draw back was the air conditioner in my first room froze over and the second did not cool very well. Other than that it was clean and a pleasant stay.

The property was good, need to ensure the coffee bar is appropriately staffed during events. The coffee bar staff were amazing and attentive, even with the influx of a large convention. The hotel staff was ok and the location is fair, you need to make sure not to walk alone in the area.
- 3/5
Everything great except you have to pay for breakfast and no microwave in the room
- 5/5
The stay was quiet. Nice shopping and food options convenient to multiple locations around the Oakland area
- 5/5
Excellent late night customer service she went above in the bottom and beyond to help me and have a great personality and is definitely a great leader, and I would highly suggest that you guys advance her up to the next level whether that be a managerial position a supervisor position I do not remember her name. He will have to look it up sorry love

This was the best experience ever I will only stay here from now on from the staff to the rooms fabulous they treated us as if we were family
- 5/5
Staff was helpful and available when needed. We enjoyed our stay!
- 5/5
Minimal hotel, only 1 bistro/cafe/restaurant and only open for breakfast and dinner hours. This location is right in the heart of Chinatown AND downtown so you can find alll sorta of cuisine. Chinatown is dead at night but lots of stuff happening downtown which is a couple blocks away. I took the "AC" bus from OAK airport and stopped at Coliseum Bart station and picked up BART. And stopped about 1 block from the hotel all fpr $2.50.-

viVictoriy and ill people

It’s in the Chinatown and weekends can be extremely busy…downtown Oakland to those unfamiliar with area will see degraded storefronts and garbage laden streets.

Easy check in Nice and clean room/hotel

Staff are super friendly! The rooms are clean and the amenities are great. The area has a lot of good dining options, during the day its completely fine, just dont walk around alone at night.

The place is wonderful, it's clean, the personal are nice, i felt safe in the area, I recommended it just because its in dawn town there are no free parking. There is extra charge for valet parking.

Hotel is good. There are some food choices in and around the hotel but the neighbourhood is kind of sketchy.
- 5/5
Nice and clean room
- 5/5
only place i like to stay at when visiting oakland
- 4/5
Lovely room. Kind and friendly staff. The neighborhood seemed to not be kept up. We took a walk to a burger place and passed areas of trash and smelly waste. Maybe homeless folks? A bit dark at night. Didn’t feel too safe.
- 5/5
The only thing is the street and publicity parking garages are only open till 7pm so might as well get the valet parking when u get there it’s only $45/24hr not bad. I love the location n everything inside was nice.
- 5/5
Staff was great and the room was clean!
- 5/5
Everything was excellent
- 4/5
For being in this area the property is clean inside and nice. Parking is additional I believe over $50 which isn’t great. The area around has a some homeless and graffiti. The staff was friendly and helpful. Nice little gym and cafe inside hotel lobby.

Loved the ambiance.

I urge anyone considering this Marriott to continue driving away from this location. I made a mistake of an on line reservation and they were demanding $45 for parking even before I entered hotel. I took a look around the block and saw awful neighhood blight, broken windows and homeless. I did not feel safe at this location so I continued to Alameda's Wyndham where my hubbby and I got superior service and free parking and a good night sleep. Thank you Wyndham!!
- 5/5
The stay was great but I wasn't prepared to pay $53 for parking. And the food was great
- 5/5
Marriot should contract with local small businesses NOT starbucks.
- 2/5
Area around this hotel in downtown Oakland is very unsafe-feeling at night. And the hotel door onto Broadway was locked so that when I arrived at 10:00 at night I could not get in! There was no sign that customers had to go around the corner to the only door that was open. Meanwhile there were two poor deranged guys that were taking up the sidewalk and I had to walk into the street to avoid them.
- 4/5
Property was good and convenient
- 5/5
The staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed and taken care of. They were very thoughtful and generous. Thank you!
- 5/5
Had a great experience and would book again
- 5/5
Nice place to stay
- 3/5
The area the hotel was in was very poor. The staff were very friendly and welcoming
- 3/5
I wasn’t expecting much. It’s a low to mid level chain and it is what it is, but the valet is a big problem. When I arrived, I needed to pull through the gate to the lot so I could unload a substantial amount of baggage. The valet wouldn’t let me. He literally said “no.” And then things like “valet only.” It didn’t matter how many times I asked to go through the gate a mere 7 feet so I could unload or how much I told him he could take the key right after I finished. The answer was a hard no. So I rang the front desk and they over-rided the valet, who I could barely understand btw. The valet only really only spoke Spanish and unfortunately my Spanish was not good enough to communicate with him in the USA. My bad I guess. Then the desk manager asked me to hand over my key after check in. They were really focused on their rules, after which he explained that the parking lot was owned by a separate company. And then I explained that, to me the customer, it’s all the same. It was a terrible first impression. But there were a couple of heroes in this ordeal. A lady at the front desk saved me and allowed me to pull in that crucial and protected 7 feet. And then there was a desk mgr, who got me a free day of valet ($45 value), which is a ridiculous amount of money for overnight parking. Still, I feel like they should have comped me both nights because that’s how you make sure your customers come back. I don’t think they’re gonna change their ways but, like I said it is what it is.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly and quick at check-in, and helpful at check-out when we needed to leave our bags while we went for dim sum nearby. Was super convenient for an overnight after a concert at Oakland Arena, great food and drink options nearby.
- 5/5
Great value for money!!!
- 4/5
Very central location in downtown Oakland, close to the BART station and plenty of eateries nearby. The surrounding area isn’t the safest, but the hotel security is fairly good and I didn’t experience any issues. No free breakfast, which is something I normally look forward to when staying at a hotel.
- 4/5
The staff was excellent and very helpful. I typically stay at the Waterfront for 2 times the cost. However I will move this hotel to the top of my list. I have stayed in many Courtyards by Marriott and find this facility in keeping with the brand. Very Pleasant stay.
- 4/5
Loved downtown Oakland
- 3/5
I arrived at 2 pm and ask if any room were available and was told rooms weren’t ready. I returned at my check in time and was told again that no clean rooms were available. Eventually the manager got involved and magically a room became available.
- 4/5
It was nice
