Reviews
The hotel is praised for its beautiful river view and friendly staff, particularly Renee. However, many guests express disappointment with the hotel's hidden charges, such as parking fees and breakfast costs. The hotel's cleanliness and maintenance are also frequently criticized, with guests mentioning issues like dirty rooms, broken amenities, and ongoing construction.
- Beautiful river view
- Friendly staff, especially Renee
- Hidden charges for parking and breakfast
- Cleanliness and maintenance issues

AC was very loud, and clunked on and off, woke us up

Excellent breakfast at reasonable prices. Nice pottery and location.

Great room. Nice view on the balcony - bathroom was huge! I would visit again!
- 5/5
Everything was great.
- 4/5
Disappointed there is no free coffee in the lobby in the morning.
- 4/5
The staff was great and the bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. Our balcony was not clean and had cigarettes butts thrown on the other side of the railing. The air-conditioning unit made a sound like someone was living in the attic. The overall property was very nice and in a nice area by the water.
- 5/5
The room was clean and the bedding was so luxurious. I slept like a baby.
- 5/5
This is a really nice hotel and conveniently located next to the ice facility for hand protesting which is good because I know this company might not best but it is a very nice hotel and it is in a good location on the river!
- 0.5/5
The check in process and ease of entering and leaving the Hotel was nice. Access to the waterfront and bike path. I would not recommend staying at the River Edge Hotel. The lack of security in and around the property is extremely concerning, especially considering guests are required to pay for parking. There appears to be little to no monitoring of the parking area, and during my stay my vehicle was broken into and personal items were stolen. What made the experience even worse was the complete lack of empathy or professionalism from management. No one reached out to follow up, offer assistance, or show any concern about the situation. For a hotel charging guests for parking, there should absolutely be better security measures in place. On top of that, the hallways smelled strongly of mold and cigarettes, making the overall environment feel neglected and poorly maintained. Between the unsafe parking situation, poor customer service, and unpleasant facilities, I would strongly recommend staying somewhere with secure, monitored parking and better accommodations instead of the River Edge Hotel.

Good view of the river.excellent walk way on River bank. No restaurant in walking distance
- 5/5
Fantastic staff all around!
- 5/5
More than comfortable and cozy. Good food and drinks in the restaurant too!
- 5/5
Clean, quiet, good location
- 5/5
We had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay. I love that it’s on the river, which makes for a nice walk. I wish it were more convenient to nice dining options. I never felt unsafe.
- 5/5
Lovely clean and bright room with balcony facing the river. A running/bike/walking trail was available and a wonderful addition to the hotel placement.
- 4.5/5
Staff was excellent
- 4/5
Beautiful setting right on the river. We enjoyed our balcony and view of the river through a pretty stand of trees. You can purchase food on site. Be prepared to pay for parking, though.
- 5/5
Brand new facility on the river. Quiet, comfortable, and terrific. Strongly recommended. Prices are a bargain to attract business.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean room, excellent bar
- 3.5/5
location, friendly staff The pillows were lovely but the mattress was hard. needed memory foam mattress topper or pillow top mattress. Extra fee for parking. no free breakfast, only a cafe so an extra purchase if you wanted breakfast.
- 4.5/5
Would have liked valet parking
- 5/5
This was my 2nd stay and I will return again. The staff is nice and the location is great for what we have going on. The trail along the river is a great touch to the site.
- 5/5
Located in a really quiet area. We had a room with a view of the river that we enjoyed.
- 5/5
The parking fee seemed crazy - luckily parking on the street was available
- 5/5
Great location for what we had planned for the weekend. Beautiful location next to the river with a walking/biking path to walk off our breakfast.
- 5/5
Great staff, delicious coffee and food. You’ll enjoy a great time here.
- 5/5
Everything
- 5/5
Everything was spot on.
- 5/5
Great area with a beautiful path along the river. Love that it is close to downtown and Lake Oswego, without having to stay downtown and worry about parking.
- 4.5/5
Lobby, Parking, Bar very nice. Location next to river; outstanding. My room had a great view of an HVAC unit and roof top. I expected better, but didn't spend much time in the room so no bog deal :-).
- 5/5
Great thanks
- 5/5
Clean place. Was cat friendly and super helpful staff. All really fun nice people.
- 4.5/5
Nice location, pretty walking path Room was not ready at check-in, by an hour or so. BUT they gave us a free drink at the bar and so the wait wasn’t too bad
- 5/5
Very nice
- 4/5
Drawers in dresser dirty with something split. Cost of parking
- 5/5

- 5/5

Every single person/staff member we incountered was very friendly and welcoming. The front desk lady was very helpful, housekeeping was friendly, the bar waitress and cook as well. This hotel will be our go to place to stay for sure.

The location, quiet next to the River . Not much . Perhaps a bigger dinner menu
- 5/5
Staf was very friendly
- 5/5
Very nice experience. Every staff member was exceptionally courteous and helpful. The hotel is beautiful. The walking path next to the river really made our stay complete.
- 5/5
No free breakfast
- 5/5
Everyone, from the front desk to the bartender to the breakfast car server to housekeeping, was GREAT!!
- 5/5
Friendly and helpful staff, great location by the river
- 4.5/5
Staff was great
- 5/5
I like the large rooms for the price but not all rooms in the categories are consistent. We were kindly upgraded after being placed in a room that wasn't consistent with our other stays. Small and not updated. We were very quickly and efficiently made happy which I appreciated. We will return.
- 4.5/5
Riverside king room, bathrooms. Great, deep tub. Staff Nothing
- 4/5
Room was great, staff was wonderful, food was Terrible. My chicken sandwich was one piece of overcooked chicken, one piece of burnt bacon a slice of craft singles cheese un melted, bread was untoasted, and there was no condiments… fries were good
- 4.5/5
My pup doesn’t do elevators no rooms on the first floor??
- 4/5
The hotel is in a great location, its interior is very nice and clean. My critiques are that there wasn’t a useable desk space, they charged $35 for parking, and you have to sign up for their rewards program to use the WiFi. Otherwise a great stay!
- 3/5
This Hotel clearly caters to business travelers and doesn't care much for private travelers
- 5/5
The river view is really nice.
- 4/5
Great spot not far from OHSU. I was charged for an "in room water" when there was no water in my room, but they took it off when I called.
- 5/5
amazing location. Beautiful view of the river on the green belt path so you can walk for miles and another direction
- 5/5
Great location for my stay. Quiet. Spacious room
- 5/5
It was beautiful and close to pretty much anywhere if traveling by Uber. everyone was friendly and helpful. NA
- 4/5
The staff were amazing as always. Room was nice, but had trouble with the thermostat keeping it at a steady temperature. Took a while, but finally got it working. Other than that it was a great stay.
- 2.5/5
Be sure to get full quote from property. Was listed as dog friendly and we had a small non shedding dog. We were charged an additional $100 for the dog and $35 for parking. A $132 room quote ended up being $292. Additional unquoted charges are ridiculous.
- 5/5
Cleanliness of the property and rooms, comfort of beds, accommodating staff.
- 4/5
Nice big clean room. Friendly staff.
- 3/5
We checked in at 2:00 to see if the room was ready early. Apparently the 2 hours we waited wasn’t enough time to clean the room i booked. I was more than willing to pay an early check in fee. I understand lapse of staff happens but as a business you had all day to figure that out. I was offered a free appetizer and drink for the trouble. We already ate out trying to waste 2 hours because the room wasn’t ready? The people in line after me were offered the same “treat”
- 4/5
Everything was perfect except the fee for wifi. A hotel of this caliber should provide free wifi
- 5/5
Beautiful room. Nice people.
- 4.5/5
Really nice place to stay right down on the waterfront. For being so close to Macadam, it's surprisingly quiet. There is a scenic Riverwalk just a few steps out the front door. All the staff were gracious and professional. Comfortable rooms, and a nice little café downstairs. We had an issue with our toilet not working properly. However, the hotel sent a guy up to fix it promptly.
- 5/5
Staff was great. Room was very clean and spacious. Comfortable bed and pillows. A bit disappointed that fireplace was not working.
- 3/5
Toilet positioned so as to be difficult to access dangerous. Desperately needs proper grab bars for safety for us older folks. Reading light at side of bed are way too bright and need dimmers and better switch locations
- 5/5
Clean and comfortable!
- 5/5
Our room was very clean and spacious. It was comfortable and had a nice balcony and fireplace.
- 5/5
Very nice clean hotel in a very peaceful location right off the river. Staff were kind and hospitable. I will definitely stay here again!
- 5/5
Spacious and clean room, quiet location, friendly and helpful staff. Great location on the waterfront next to a lovely waterfront biking/walking trail. We had a great time.
- 5/5
Clean and quiet with a lanai.
- 5/5

- 5/5
Clean room and helpful, friendly staff. It was very conveniently located to the reason for our visit.
- 3/5
Shower did not have decent pressure and did not drain properly.
- 5/5
Staff was courteous and no we found “nasal” drips under our bed that were not ours. Gross:(
- 5/5
Yes. Room was great and staff helpful.
- 5/5
Room was clean and very hospitable. Services were very good.
- 4/5

We had to pay for coffee! We had to pay $35 per night for parking!
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
Extremely beautiful grounds with trails just out back to walk. Very clean rooms and awesome staff.
- 5/5
Good room. Good service!
- 3/5
Very low standards here, shower drain was clogged the whole time. Shower head sucks, shower curtain was dirty, shower plug drain was also broken making it constantly close when trying to drain, rude staff, no parking except for an outrageous daily fee.
- 3/5
Also there was not soap in the shower dispenser. Also the water bottles they have in the room are $3.50 and the tap water is overly water softened
- 5/5
Clean room very kind and helpful staff.
- 5/5
Very close to PDX ICE so it's convenient for PEACEFUL protesters, just a short walk away that this overweight granny found not to be too tough.
- 5/5
Also, you absolutely MUST visit the cafe. Seriously best mocha of my life!
- 5/5
Bar was nice Dinner was good
- 5/5
Staff friendly and professional
- 3/5
King bed & a tiny toilet made for child Breakfast preset with rediculous items No real breakfast or choices Dumb for a hogh end hotel Wont stay there again
- 5/5
Stopped here on our drive to Oregon. Wonderful location that allowed us to walk around the historic district and stretch our legs before a long drive the next day. Nice happy hour and very helpful staff.
- 5/5
Excellent customer service.
- 5/5
Clean room and front desk staff was great. Took care of me as I got in early for an early check in. Great all the way around.
- 5/5
The River's Edge Hotel had the BEST service. The staff went above-and-beyond. They were professional, kind and fun. We have found our new favorite hotel in Portland.
- 3/5
The "Parking" was not free as advertised while booking this stay. We had no choice once we arrived. The main reason we choose this place was "Parking" was supposed to be "free".
- 4/5
The restaurant experience could be so much better. The food ok, off you season it well yourself.
- 5/5
Dog friendly
- 5/5
Loved how it seemed to be tucked away in a corner, we felt a safe.
- 5/5
Great time had by both of us
- 5/5
This is my 5th stay. I love having my car secure right across from the hotel. The walking path by the river is beautiful. Some of the rooms have balconies overlooking this and it is so peaceful. The rooms are very clean and good sized. We have always had hot water and the beds are comfy. I love that they supply full sized pillows, four to a king bed. The front desk folks are very nice and the panini in the bar is excellent.
- 5/5
Having a balcony that looked on the river and walking path was very relaxing.
- 5/5
I like this area a lot. Stayed here several times. I like that it's by the river, you don't pay for parking and great vegan breakfast options.
- 5/5
I always enjoy my time staying here!! It's such a gorgeous place to stay, the rooms are nice and clean. Minimalistic but nice. The hotel itself is tucked away but convenient since it's in the Portland area! There's a great bar and the people at the front are super friendly.
- 3/5
Paid for view room, did not get it because view rooms do not go to Expedia customers per staff. TV did not work kept locking up and maintenance would have to come and reset it every time we wanted to watch. Then it would lock up again. Carpet was not vacuumed on check in (toenails on floor)
- 5/5
We had a great stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel and staffs were great, my room was upgraded, very clean
- 5/5
My choice to stay at Rivers Edge was for the proximity to the hospital. But even more than that, the hotel is beautiful and the staff is wonderful. My original stay was for two days. I ended up returning for a third night. The front desk staff treated me like an old friend returning. After a couple of long and stressful days, that was really appreciated.
- 5/5
Really appreciated the concierge / Front desk person (Hillary?) for taking great care of us while we were there. This is a nice little spot tucked in a wooded area with great walking options and nearby amenities. Would stay again.
- 5/5
Great location along the river with easy access to walking path to restaurants and cafes
- 5/5
I stayed two nights and I was more than satisfied. The staff was nice and accommodating. I was alone so I asked for a room on the highest floor. I was excited to find out that the 5th was already reserved for me. A room that wasn't near the elevator. It was very clean, very comfortable and very quiet. Just how I like it! The room actually looked better than it did online. The river walk trail was a huge bonus! I loved it!
- 5/5
Balcony door was broken and off hinge. Safety issue.
- 4/5
We stayed in a king bed with sofa bed, balcony view room. This room was very small, with the sofa bed out you couldn’t move around the bed. The listing states that it can sleep 4 but, it isn’t comfortable. The room was clean and the bathroom was very spacious. There wasn’t much of a view from our room as the trees block your view of the water. The staff were friendly and the parking was easy.
- 5/5
Clean. Easy check in. Parking near entrance. Quiet.
- 3/5
Sheets were stained/dirty
- 5/5
Great hotel, great location
- 4/5
the bike trail on the river side is a great place for a nice walk. the hotel dining is a disapointment.
- 5/5
As always, an excellent stay at River's Edge. Hilary makes us feel so welcome and really takes extra special care to make us feel welcomed and comfy - thank you! We love bringing our dog here - such great walking outside and the restaurant/bar is fun with some nice food and drink options. Very friendly staff throughout.
- 5/5
This is a really lovely hotel that we've stayed at twice now. Our room was spotlessly clean and beautifully appointed with a pretty view of the river from our balcony. There are miles of paved walking paths along the river and several good dining options very nearby. The staff is warm and friendly. Parking is easy. We will stay here every time we are in Portland.
- 5/5
The bed was super comfy and the hotel and room were very clean. Staff was friendly. Would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
It was a bit far from eateries and such. But a very nice place to stay

Nice river walk
- 4/5
We selected a suite and disappointed that we had to pay for a cup of coffee. Only two bath towels provided, and that’s not enough for two women when we wash hair and need two each! Only one makeup remover pad, two women need TWO.

- 5/5
Perfect river front walking / running trai that is right in the city
- 5/5
Staff was great and room was excellent.
- 5/5
Great experience. The balcony rooms are amazing. Sitting on the beautiful river, watching joggers and dog-walkers over a morning cup of coffee is my idea of heaven. The pub offered good burgers and fries and great conversation. It’s a quick walk to ride streetcar to all Ortland has to offer.
- 3/5
Early check in was easy. The room had a terrible view on the third floor of a roof and wall.
- 5/5
Quietly tucked away on the outskirts of Portland. River view rooms are great and there is a walking/running/biking path along the river. Close to OSHU.
- 5/5
My favorite place to stay in Portland!
- 5/5
Great location, Staff was super friendly and parking is close by. Nice views!
- 5/5
Love this hotel right next to Ross Island lake. It’s quite peaceful and just a short walk to the Old Spaghetti Factory. The staff is quite accommodating. We always choose this hotel when driving through Portland. It’s my favorite in Portland.
- 5/5
We loved that the hotel was right on the riverfront walkway. Our check in was very friendly and we enjoyed walking the trail to The Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner. Nice bar and breakfast at the lounge was also good.
- 3/5
The hotel itself was great the views from the balcony was stunning the only reason for my rating was there were a bunch of flying bugs and gnats on the ceiling in my first room so I went to the concierge and they were able to get the room changed and the second room was really nice no complaints after that
- 5/5
Checking in using the app and having a digital key is a plus!!
- 3/5
Average stay.... $30 to park your car!
- 3/5
I was charged twice for parking, but they did take the second charge back. Since it was a trip to see family we weren’t at the room very often. One day we didn’t get any service at all for new towels or coffee couple times we didn’t get cups for the coffee. Overall, it wasn’t a bad experience, but I think I would choose a different hotel next time.
- 4/5
The big bummer was the $29/night for parking. Service was good. Hotel was 4/5.
- 5/5
Great service. The bed is wonderful.
- 4/5
The pillows were not comfortable, and the balcony wasn’t very inviting space. Everything else was great
- 5/5
Great customer service and the room was beautiful, comfortable and clean. Will definitely be staying here again.
- 3/5
The room overall was very nice. The biggest problem was that the AC was broken in the main room and it was a hot day so it took until late evening for it to cool off, the AC worked fine in the bedroom. We had drinks and dinner at the restaurant, the drinks were delicious but then got served undercooked chicken wings. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will stay there again but next time we will eat at a different restaurant.
- 5/5
Very quiet location. Easy to get to downtown.
- 5/5
The staff are wonderful! Great location near the river. Lovely stay
- 5/5
Super friendly staff!
- 4/5
Lots of hidden costs, water bottles are free only for elite Hilton members. Parking is $29/night and if you purchase the breakfast package the tips are not included in the daily allotment. Very small and expensive breakfast menu. Best part is being on the river walk.
- 5/5
Place is in a nice area of Portland with a great walking path just behind the hotel. Make sure you get a balcony room facing the river. Nice little bar to unwind in the evening.
- 5/5
Had a great room the Willamette River right outside your door, easy access to downtown and to the east side
- 4/5
Hotel was fun.
- 5/5
This hotel is located near a long scenic walkway, so was able to stretch my legs after a long car trip!
- 4/5
Friendly staff and clean hotel.
- 5/5
Very clean, nice hotel. Just not a great view of the river.
- 4/5
Avoid staying near the gym!!! It’s open 24/7 amd it is loud. This location is awesome and it’s otherwise a great hotel!
- 4/5
Nice hotel. Hotels.com said « free breakfast « but it is actually a $15 per person credit and this may not cover a full breakfast. We also had to follow up and make sure the credit was applied. The fee for parking was unclear on the reservation as well and was $29 per night. The staff was very friendly and it was very comfortable and quiet with a wonderful riverwalk behind.
- 5/5
The restaurant and local store was terrific. Food and serv oh ce was excellent. Very let friendly! The only issues were minor except had to request complimentary coffee be stocked for next morning. Need coffee first thing! Desk clerk took care of that immediately! Aesthetically, room was great and comfortable. Minor issues (for this stay) were: room safe was locked-so useless; and the balcony curtain (very tall) hooks were coming undone where one must pull on it to open or close them. It just made us more careful doing that.
- 5/5
Great, pet friendly place.
- 5/5
Great place to stay with a pet. Very pet friendly.
- 5/5
Lovely hotel right on the riverwalk with easy parking. Our room had a small balcony that allowed us a great place for a quiet evening with a beautiful river view.
- 5/5
Seemed like most of the staff was new and in training. But they did a good job.
- 5/5
The hotel has been totally remodeled. I suggest requesting riverside. The only complaint I have is the balcony needed to be powerwashed. It was grimy. I mentioned it to the desk
- 4/5
the only thing the matter with the property is that the screws holding the toilet paper roll were falling out of the wall and the water fixture in the bathroom was loose
- 5/5
Quiet and serene but in the middle of a lot. Walking path was amazing.
- 1/5
Room wasn’t fully cleaned & my son forgot his tablet called not even an hour after checking & the tablet was not in the room anymore..
- 3/5
Did not know parking wasn’t free
- 5/5
Aurora and the other front desk staff were all very helpful. Our room had a nice view of the Willamette River, and there is a great bike path that runs right behind the hotel.
- 5/5
Nice access to the riverfront trail.
- 5/5
The check in and out process was easy and the clerk was very friendly and helpful. The room was very nice with both a soaking tub and a shower in the bathroom. Nice design. Clean, comfortable and lovely view.
- 2/5
The restaurant doesn’t have decent food at all. I do not think it deserves the high rating
- 3/5
Don’t like the coffee option in the room and free coffee not provided in lobby. The location is great to access entertainment and shopping in the city.
- 4/5
The room was large, clean and had a fireplace. It also had a large closet. It lacked a full size coffee table and sufficient light in the living room. The dresser was small. Shower was extremely small and bathtub and toilet room each had a glass block wall.
- 5/5
Did not come and make room up
- 5/5
Roy was exceptional!
- 5/5
We love staying here! It's such a nice location on the river and great if you have a dog :) Easy to get to Portland and the surrounding areas. The remodel is nice, although I would like real glasses and coffee mugs in the rooms, but the rooms are spacious, quiet, comfortable, and clean. The restaurant and bar is fun - nice little menu and great service (bartender with the great hair, you know who you are - keep up the great work). Everyone is friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
There needs to be handicap parking, but other than that the property was great.
- 5/5
The only negative was the hvac in the room was horribly loud.
- 5/5
much better..gad we gave this hotel a second chance. Room was great...spacious and clean. staff were great...will stay again.
- 5/5
This is a very nice property. The room's facing the river have a great view. Every time I have stayed here the rooms have been very clean. I have no complaints about the room itself. One thing I will say is that the facilities are a little bit old and it shows sometimes. One of the elevators can be a bit scary. Other than that my experience with this place has been very positive. I guess the only other thing to keep in mind is that it is not that close to many shopping areas downtown, although if you're willing to walk a bit there are some stores further north on the waterfront.
- 5/5
will stay there again.
- 4/5
The restaurant has a limited menu and limited hours, but the food was really good, and the staff was friendly. Fitness center was larger than you'd expect. Google Maps will put you in the wrong lanes to get to the Hotel but once you learn you'll be OK. Parking was $26 a night.
- 4/5
it worked for us. but wish there was a standalone table to sit at.
- 1/5
Restaurant is awful. Got food poisoning
- 5/5
The hotel is quite lovely and in a great spot. More free coffee and water would be nice.
- 4/5
Nice stay but parking isn’t included. You will pay $25 per day to park in a business parking lot not covered with no security.
- 5/5
We especially enjoy the restaurant lounge area to hang out in morning , afternoon and happy Hour! Large TV for sporting events!
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
Paid for breakfast at check in, then signed bill to room for breakfast and got billed again.
- 2/5
Toilet plugged on arrival. HVAC way, way too loud—felt like a freight train, no way could I sleep with it on and weather was cold! In room coffee maker broken. Fire alarm chirping at bedtime. Restaurant menu items share common ingredients, bacon, fries, cheese, cold chicken breast, as if made for convenience of cook, not guest. Breakfast display of tired old food. Closed for lunch. Offered a coffee upon check out for the review
- 4/5
Portland City sanctuary away from the city issues, quiet, peaceful. Love the river view.
- 4/5
Great place to stay. Close to the hospital and water front.
- 5/5
Great stay.
- 5/5
Brautiful view, quiet, clean
- 4/5
Shower had some dirty soap spots, but not terrible. Overall very
- 5/5
The gentleman who checked us in was so nice!
- 5/5
Was very nice and clean, but wasn't aware of the $29 parking fee, should be shown on expedia that there is a fee
- 5/5
Nice hotel by the river.
- 5/5
Easy access to OHSU medical facilities
- 5/5
This hotel is so nice -- lobby areas and room are very clean, designed with a flair. Generously sized everywhere. I loved this hotel. So comfortable and the desk person was very nice.
- 5/5
Very clean & you can tell the updates have been done right. It was overall comfortable.
- 5/5
Room was nice the lobby was nice staff were nice will stay here again in the future
