Motel 6 Salem, VA

Rooms themselves were clean but flooring in the bathroom was coming up b/c the shower sprayed outside of the curtain even when it was closed. Bed and sheets were nice and clean. The property looked terrible (an actual part of the roof and stucco was hanging off the second building) very sketchy. Definitely a get what you pay for kind of place.

Although the beds looked made, the room did not look as if it was clean. The soap bar wrapper was empty and left on the counter. The counter and the dresser top did not look like it was cleaned since it had crumbs and dirt on it. The floor did not look swept, the bathroom tub looked dirty, and there were no towels in the room so we had to ask for them at the front office. Even though the room was a non-smoking room it had a smell to it like a cigar. Lastly, the front office had a pungent smell of ethnic food.

Stay away from this flophouse. The pictures on the Hotels.com site must've been taken years ago. Let's start with the check-in: when we got there, the attendant (owner?) said no smoking rooms were available, even though we ordered it in advance. My wife looked at me and said, "Well, he paid for a smoking room, so a discount would be appropriate.". What do you know? A smoking room became available. Then, when we entered the room, it was a shock. Motel 6 built its brand on basic, but clean, rooms in reasonable shape. First, the bathroom door was disconnected from the bottom hinge (picture). Then, to our amazement, the bathtub had a huge crack in the floor which was "repaired" with some sort of plastic that gave way when you stepped in it (picture). Next, the flooring at the entrance to the bathroom felt like it was giving way when you stepped on it (picture). The walls on each side of the room had significant damage, unrepaired (picture). Next, the room door had obviousely been kicked in and left unrepaired (picture). Police raid, maybe? Lastly, there was a disturbing red discoloration on one of the walls (picture). Blood, maybe? Now that we've recently retired, my wife and I travel quite a bit. This trip was for our grandson's graduation. When we return to the area, you can bet we'll be staying elsewhere.

Very run down appearing property. Lots of unsavory guests sitting outside the rooms. Ice machine did not work properly. Bedspread had stains on it. And sheets had a cut mark in them??? I choose this hotel because I had 2 dogs traveling with us and just needed a place to rest for a few hours… it seemed very sketchy. I would not not recommend this Motel 6. ( I have stayed in many that were updated and well kept but this did not meet my budget hotel standards)

This motel room was very dirty. No dead bolt on door. Look like it was broken and not fixed. Bed had cigarette burn holes in it. The outlet covers were filled in with paper. Holes in the wall that were not filled in. Very very unsanitary and disgusting

Shower curtain rod was hanging down so low, both ends of the shower curtain slide open. Bathroom floor was sinking around the toilet, with cracked tiles all around. Floor is ready to collapse. The walls had dirt, grease, and crayon markings all over them. The floors are filthy. Exterior has gutters hanging down from the roof and trash all around the property. Part of the brick divider wall between units had collapsed on the roof. All of the material was laying on top of the roof.

This was the most disgusting hotel I’ve ever stayed at in my life! It was a non-smoking room that reeked of stale smoke. There was a dirty handprint on the wall above the bed. No shades on any of the lamps. Missing a fluorescent bulb above the sink. The one light that was above the sink did not work. The vent hanging in the bathroom was hanging without a cover around it. The light in the bathroom flashed like a disco light. There were multiple burn holes in the blanket. Parts of the floor were peeling up and other parts looked like someone carved into it with a knife. There was dirt all around the baseboards. Could not stay. Had to leave.

I made a reservation and paid for two rooms. When I got to the hotel they only had one one. Seems as though Expedia only submitted one of the reservations. Whne I called Edpedia thay were no help at all. Had to pay for the second room again. Very bad experience.

Buildings should be replaced and I’m being extremely polite

We booked here because our travel plans changed and it was last minute. The motel is very rundown. The shower didn’t work and there were no shampoo or conditioners for use no shower gel. Only three very small bars of soap. It is not at all what we have experienced at this chain in the past.

This motel had the lowest price of any in the area and we were ecstatic to get it at that rate. The towels were washed but had some tints that will never come out. The TV remote was a bit difficult to operate. Sometimes took extra time to reach the desired channel. Given the price we expected a few minor issues and we would recommend this motel for anyone on a tight budget.

I know the room was cheaper than others I looked at but that doesn’t excuse the fact there weren’t any towels for showers and no soap to wash your hands after a bathroom visit. I was expecting a knock on the door from the maid to bring in towels. I went out for dinner and forgot about it. Next day I went into the shower and remembered they never brought me any towels. Very disappointed this happened to me. My wife told me don’t go thru 3rd party go direct to the motel hotel. Learned a lesson.

Without a doubt, this was the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. When i first arrived there were 3 cop cars handling a 'situation' that went on for hours and required more police to arrive. There was visible fire damage to the outside. Next, the room was an absolute horror. The filthiest room I've ever seen. Stains on the walls galore, scrapes, missing chunks from the floor and doorframes. Dust everywhere and holes in the linen. Foul smelling microwave and the fire alarm was not even connected nor did it have batteries. Cockroaches and BED BUGS found in the room. When all this was brought to attention of the staff, they couldnt be bothered to apologize or care and offered us only a partial refund. Absolute insanity.

Checked into a room. There was no toilet seat on the toilet as it was laying in the floor. There was no shower curtain, the towels were stained, the drawers were all broken and missing handles, there was trash in the drawers, the bedspread was dirty with burn holes in it. There was no remote, no ashtray and the AC unit looked like someone had taken off the front and didn't put it back on all the way. It was disgusting! I quickly complained and went and stayed somewhere else.

Nothing went well.. the room was clean but the door didn't lock properly. No remote for the tv. Roaches in the bathroom and fridge.. no shampoo.. no coffee..The bathroom was clean but the shower was weak and the toilet wouldn't flush.. room wasn't cleaned once while I stayed there for 5 nights.

The location of the motel was convenient I booked a smoking room for September 2nd and was told they had a non-smoking room ready and I could smoke outside the room i refused and was moved. The room was deplorable.. I was put in a room waiting to be cleaned at 3:30pm with a Door that didn’t abut the casing, window drape was moth eaten, bureau didn’t have drawers that fit, shower curtain held up by screws sticking out of the wall..

Our outside light didn't work, light by TV didn't work, bathroom light didn't work, black mold on bathroom wall, bathroom door didn't close, air conditioner cover was so dusty and dirty we were afraid to turn it on, fridge was not plugged in so couldn't use it, mirror above sink was dirty.

The pictures don’t reflect the reality. Check in was done through a window in the middle of winter because it was after 11PM. Bedsheets had brown stains. Bathroom tub was cracked and uneven floor, the knobs we’re broken. Toilet seat didn’t match the bowl size. Heater don’t heat the space with -9 degree Celsius weather. We have stayed at other motel 6 in Canada but didn’t realize the condition of motel 6 in the US is so poor. Felt like a motel in rural India. This establishment shouldn’t operate in this condition.

The room was dirty, the security lock was broken off, the bathtub/shower was filthy. You definitely get what you pay for.

I couldn’t take a shower because the tub was disgusting. There weren’t any towels in the bathroom. And as a courtesy I usually strip the linens, and the mattress pad an ugly green stain on it. Overall, horrible stay.

The Mexican diner next door Room was horrible,gnats all over the bathroom dried up into the paint with some kind of fly killer,big hole in wall patched with a plastic bag,front window had bullet hole in it patched with electrical tape,floors were all water damaged,extremely loud truck traffic all night long from highway

we did not sleep on it, they had holes in the bathroom, hair all over the bed, a empty can of a beer, lights did not work, we stary there for less than 5 min and left. we asked the hotel for a refund, it was nasty.

First off, we were given a smoking room, which is fine — we’ve stayed in plenty of smoking rooms before — but none of them have ever smelled like straight-up piss. The smell was overwhelming. Second, the bathroom was a complete nightmare. In front of the sink AND the shower, water was literally coming up from the floorboards. Every time you stepped in there, the floor made a nasty “squish” sound and your feet got soaked. We even tried to take a shower, but honestly, it was one of those situations where you get out feeling just as gross because the whole environment felt dirty — especially with mystery water seeping up beneath your feet. Third, there was a fly problem in the room too. We were grateful it wasn’t termites. Fourth, after a long day of traveling, of course we were hungry. But when we opened the microwave, it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in ages. There was dried-on food stuck to the plate and even half of a Styrofoam cup filled with old beans and carrots still sitting in there. Absolutely disgusting. We had to scrub the plate ourselves and let it soak because that’s how old and crusted the mess was. And let’s not forget: the AC filters were filthy. Covered in dust and grime. This room should have never been given to anyone

This was the dirtiest hotel room that I ever seen!!! There were holes in the walls, black mold on the sealing in the bathroom, the towels had stains on them, the doors had cracks in them wear you could look out side or in the bathroom and see through it. The floor and walls were wealthy!!!! The key did not work and the hotel employee has to let me it. It was like sleeping in a crack house! I considered sleeping in my car but I slept in the room because the bed looked clean and I got in town at 12:30 am and I was excused. I woke up and left after brushing by teeth and washing my face. I refused to take a shower because it was dirty. DO NOT STAY HERE UNLESS YOU ARE ON DRUGS AND YOU ARE LOOKING TO GET HIGH! The people next store were definitely drug addicts because they were make loud noises in the middle of the night and had very aradic behavior!!! The place should be comdemed by the health department. I will never stay in a Motel 6 for the rest of my life!!! I'm completely traumatized. By the way I took pictures and if they allow me to post them I will share them on this email.

No matainance had been done in a long time . Wall paper ripped off wall or water damaged and not repaired. Floor seemed to have been damaged by water. Sub floor material probably rotted out.

We booked a non smoking room, it they put us in a smoking room that the smoke smell was so bad it made it hard to breathe. There was a milk crate box holding up the bed. Grass was on the floor. They did allow us to cancel our reservation when they could not provide us with a non smoking room.

It is what you would expect for a $80 hotel room. No blankets just 2 top sheets, smelled horrible, floor in bathroom was literally rotting, toilet would spin on the floor, dirt hair etc in the corners of the room. When I asked for towels they did give me those.

We checked out after 1st night and drove home because we couldn’t stand another night. Just pay the premium price for the other hotels.

As others had mentioned, you get 1 washcloth, 1 towel. I had a two double bed room. The beds had no protective pad, not plastic, no liner. Just bottom sheet, top sheet and a thin cover/quilt if you want to call it that. Also, was given 1 plastic slide key and the sheath was reused w the room number on it. You had to return to the office at checkout. They would.know from this system. I left for Blacksburg.and gave my key to the desk as i wanted to be sure if i didn’t return it by 11 i wouldn't be charged. I said i wasn't sure how my night would go - if drinking i wouldn't drive back. He tella me at the counter that if I'm not coming they want to tuen the room over. I paid for the night. The room was mine till 11am the next morning. Tell me how that is a messed up system: The one card with a sheath w room # that needs to be turned in... And they would want my room if I'm not returning.

Basic but good

First off, the microwave doesn't work, and when I reported it, just shrugged and said I don't have another microwave. There was garbage underneath the a/c, like it was just swept under it, the heat doesn't work, the garbage wasn't even emptied, and the people, except for the one young girl, are very unfriendly and short.

Dirty towels on floor, toilet not secured, dirty pillows in parking lot, both rooms smelled, dead mice in lot. On the good side the stray cats were nice

Bugs all over the floor, fridge was standing open when we went in with bugs all through it. We were sticking to the floor walking in the bathroom, the tub was dripping noisily all night. Bed was the most uncomfortable I think I have ever felt. Yes, you get what you pay for, but I have stayed in comparably priced rooms before and not been unhappy with them.

Dirty, outdated, holes in the way. Dirt and something resembling to feces was all over the floor and the bathroom door. Large hole near the shower head. As I was packing up the next morning to check out one of the workers just barged into my room without announcing himself or apologizing. He did the same thing to the guest next door and I heard her scream since the work was quite aggressive upon entering the rooms. Too bad my boyfriend wasn’t with me on this trip, he would have definitely spoken to that rude aggressive worker. The only thing good about this place is that it’s near a whole bunch of restaurants. This motel is trash. I would not recommend. I give it a 0/10.

They also have everything an Omelet Shoppe /Waffle House have. Gas station directly across the street (they have EVERYTHING!) Large and brand new TVs.

Kind people but dirty place.

The motel gave me an initial room that was in complete disrepair and unihabitable. When they assigned another room, the new room reeked of cigarette smoke. The bedding had holes in them from ashes and the flooring was warped in certain spots, not to mention very dirty throughout the room. I immediately went to the front desk and requested a refund from the hotel due to these reasons and to the extremely poor conditions oof the hotel and my asthma that would prevent me from staying in a smoke congested room. Hotel reception told me to call Expedia for a refund that they would authorize. When I called Expedia for the refund, they stated they would call the hotel for the authorization for a refund. Of course this process took days. Expedia told me that the hotel denied my request for a refund because I failed to submit a complaint when all I did when I got there was complain. Expedia upheld their denial and didn’t authorize my refund request despite multiple communication efforts with them and the hotel. In short, I requested a charge back from my bank and credit card for this booking. I will not be using Expedia anymore.

The area is very safe and cute neighborhoods around. The Spanish restaurant next door was very good. A Food Lion grocery store is right across the street. The staff was friendly enough. However, the room itself was very poor. There was a big hole in the wall where the door opens. The room was old, smelled of mold, and needed a lot of work. I would stay in any other hotel in this area and avoid this one.

My stay always great the rooms need major repairs and upgrade to the security of the rooms.

This was the worse stay ever. I honestly felt like I was trapped in a rickety trailer from a trailer park. Room smelled had to kill a bug. Just horrible, but u get what u pay for! All 62 dollars worth

This motel was just dirty. There were cobwebs and caving in floors. The sheets and pillows had stains. The wall in our bathroom had a humongous hole full of toilet paper. There was a hole in the place where the door handle was supposed to go, someone could look through it through the handle itself. It was somewhere to sleep and wasn’t horrible for what it was, but I would recommend spending just a little more if you can on somewhere a little nicer.

Walked in to my room and air conditioner wasn’t on, felt like it was 80 degrees in there. Huge stain on the couch. 3 flat pillows on a king size bed. Urine on the inner rim of the toilet bowl. Black cracked tub. Smell was very musty and was very dark in the room. Asked about breakfast, no breakfast even though it said breakfast on the site I ordered

I would definitely stay here again for the price and convenience!

Blood on my pillow, old used furniture. I have never seen such a disgusting hotet in my life. Asked for a refund immediately!

Stay wasn’t bad we went down there to see the Virginia museum of trains. The hotel was in pretty decent shape. I would come back. It was pretty clean quiet I like that.

New Laminate floors throughout, however they may have been vacuumed ,but not washed. After spilling some water on the floor, I wiped it up with a towel, the towel w weas black ( Need to start using Soap and water ) Throw out the Vacuum cleaner.

no smoke detector-- it was stuffed with towel, electric sockets with no plates and wires exposed, filthy. smelled very bad. we were in the room for five minutes and had to leave it was so bad

The beds were relatively comfortable and the sheets and towels were clean. The place was not in overall good condition but was functional. The floor was uneven. Not all the outlets worked. One was missing a cover. In one room, there was no smoke detector but there was a plastic bag shoved in the hole where it should have been. The hot water came and went. The shower had great pressure tho-it was like being power washed. The toilet seat was loose. In another room, the toilet wasn't anchored to the floor. There was red nail polish on furniture and sink and my son thought it was blood and freaked out. Worst of all - NO BLANKETS. Exactly 2 pillows per bed. One towel, one hand towel and one wash cloth per person. NO EXTRAS. And cats everywhere. The managers/owners and their family live there and I think the cats are theirs. They're nice folks, but the whole thing is weird. I won't stay there again. Next time I'll spend another $50 a night and go somewhere else. Overall, this is a step up from a camp site.

Old & needs attention. Holes in walls, looks unkept. I don’t think dirty but towels & sheets yellowed. Pillows under cases stained & super thin. It was a place to shower & sleep to get to my grandsons graduation but would never stay there again.

Checked in and the room was really dirty. Check the bathroom and the bath tub was really disgusting and filthy, not even clean. The pillows were not fresh or worthy to sleep on and one cover had a burnt hole. The front door didn’t lock as well. Felt really uncomfortable and wasn’t satisfied.

I wasn't pleased with the fact there was not fresh toilet paper upon arrival 😔 had to go to the office to get. No wash clothes were provided either. Hated the smell of the cleaner that was used. Room needs to be fixed, bathroom door was too small for opening big gap when closed. There was a hole where the door knob was to the bathroom as well. Pillow cases were dirty, not sure of the sheets, as I slept on top of blankets. Definitely NOT worth the $90 dollars.

I didn’t know what to expect when I booked it. I just knew it was a good price. We were going to see a concert Metallica at Virginia Tech so I didn’t care at the time, but it was a lot less than I thought it would be as far as quality, I thought it would be a little more updated not so Outdated and not comfortable. I was very happy to book the Highlander for the second night. We just left the other night paid for and not used.

Great room. Friendly staff. They let me have a late check out at 12. Only issue was a flickering bathroom light. Bed was comfotable and the room was clean. Temperature perfect.

Room door didn’t close properly, 3 different rooms the sheets were dirty, rude desk staff. Didn’t stay!

The security lock could not be used. The bathroom doorframe was unfinished and tub too dirty to stand in. One refrigerator was broken and smelly, but they had put in a usable one.

The staff was attentive, they came to me and changed my room as soon as they discovered water issues. I hadn't had the time to even check! I will definitely stay here again when in the Roanoke area. The restaurant next door was a big plus.

The towels were filthy, the tub was filthy. Had to clean the tub myself and use my own towels. The remote control was coming apart and barely held together with tape. Couldn't even get CBS on the TV during the Final Four NCAA tournament. Awful experience. Never again.

The floor was filthy. The light fixture above the sink fluckered. We brought in a flashlight to provide light for that area. Toilet paper holder was broken. Tub was probably clean but was stained and looked dirty. Road noise kept us awake most of the night. The bed was comfortable but only a sheet and thin spread were provided. The door didn't seal well and left in a cold draft so we were also cold. Will not stay there again.

This motel was absolutely discusting. We were tired and just needed to sleep and we booked this place becauae it was right off the interstate. After inspecting for bed bugs and against my better judgment, we decided to stay just to rest for a few hours before getting back on the road. At 1am I was awoken by a mouse eating our food out of our grocery bag. Immediately packed up and left. When i talked to the person at the front desk about the deplorable conditions, all he could say was "oh". DO NOT STAY HERE.
