SureStay Hotel by Best Western San Diego Pacific Beach

The hot water was not hot enough at night. As soon as we entered the room, we noticed a strong kimchi odor. The internet speed was also too slow. The entire hotel is in need of renovation. Considering the condition of the property, charging $300 per night is completely unreasonable and does not reflect the quality of the accommodations provided.

Nothing at all. The bed sheets were not changed and clearly were soiled and smelling from the previous guest’s stay. The bathroom was untidy and the toilets didn’t flush properly. The floor in the room was very dirty and cannot walk barefoot as some grime would stick to your feet. Very uncomfortable and gross hotel.

The room smelled terrible. Smelt worse when AC was turned on. It was was too humid because of poor ventillation. You can hear everything from every room including people talking, slamming their door shut, stomping around in the room above us. The shower pressure was incredibly low. There was no hot water. None of our towels would dry over the 3 days because of it being too humid. When we needed new towels we had to walk our dirty ones to the front desk ourself, so no service for necessary items. Breakfast was good. One of the front desk ladies was rude.

This hotel is misrepresented online. The pictures online were Photo shopped and when we got to the hotel, it was nothing like it was described online.

Clean, comfortable. Only downside is there is not daily housekeeping service but not a huge issue. Would stay here again. Easy access to everything and the beach was less than 2 miles away.

We like the carpetless room. Location was near restaurants, churches, & freeway. The staff was friendly and easy check in. The room was tight and dog fees were ridiculously expensive! 70$ per night is outrageous. If they are charging for dogs stay then the hotel should provide something for the dogs such as snacks or towels. We have stayed at others hotels with dog fees of 15$ per dog/ night.

OK, the rooms were clean but very tiny. The main problem we had was with the location. Traffic was terrible all the time and it was quite difficult to get into usually having to do a very sharp U2 to get into it. I would not stay there again based on the location.

For what it's worth it's a decent spot. Room was relatively clean, staff very friendly, free breakfast was like any other; eggs, make your own waffle, sausage, pastry, fruit, cereal, coffee and parking enough spots for the rooms they have. Oh, and the beds were comfortable.

Check-in was easy. Front desk staff is very empathetic. The room was clean but management should have performed some additional maintenance prior to occupancy. A moisture issue is tolerable for a night, but finding a roach is unacceptable at any time.

Had the pet friendly room #117, it was extra noisy cause it beside the room service maids.

Room was extremely small and had a weird smell. Homeless helped themselves at the continental breakfast.

Very clean, a nice little place to stay in San Diego close to Pacific Beach and Mission Bay.

When we got there, it was 10 o'clock at night. I had one sick baby and my toddler with me. The room was so small we couldn't fit our stroller or the packing and play in it. they put us on the third floor, which had a whole bunch of garbage cans and debris blocking the walkway so I couldn't barely get down without moving anything out of the way when I finally got to the room. It was so small. There's no way that we were gonna stay there. Also that property looks nothing like it did online. It looks like somebody had taken pictures right after it was remodeled and never maintained it. The outside was dirty full of people that appeared to be on drugs. I had booked through hotels.com and purchased their insurance the hotel manager I think her name is Gina was phenomenal and tried to give me all of my money back but hotels.com refused to even though we were only there on property for five minutes and checked out and had to book another property somewhere else.

Staff are pleasant but for the most part do mot have basic skills in resolving guest questions or complaints. Parking was adequate.

Close to SeaWorld and Mission Beach. Room was quite small (not alot of room between the bed and the desk). Staff only provided two towels. I went to ask for more towels and I had to bring them the two used towels immediately. More rooms than parking stalls. People we parking in front of the lobby. Tight parking stalls.

PET FEE was insane-did not have it listed anywhere. We asked if we could cancel because we booked 5 min before they told us the pet fee and they said we would have to go through hotels.com to get money back. Also asked them to clean our room as we were staying multiple nights and they did not..the room was small but it was clean and sufficient.

Breakfast was great, staff were great, definitely my favorite budget hotel! The location is excellent, too, just a few minutes from the boardwalk, and a 3 minute drive to pacific park.

The smell of mold was overwhelming in our room. We tried to get used to, but with our allergies, by 2 am neither of us could hardly breathe. We weny outside, then thought maybe we could sleep in our vehicle but it wad too noisy with traffic. Unfortunately we didnt get any sleep and felt quite sick from the terrible odor in the room. There was black mold between tiling in the bathroom which is hazardous to anyone.

Room do not look anything close to the pictures online even the bathroom isn't even the same. They are faking all the pictures. I tried calling the office but nobody answered. Parking is ok

There was a very small pet area. The room was not big enough for 2 people and a dog to maneuver in. We had to side step each other. The only chair was an office chair that was at the "desk". the refrigerator was not cold.

I had stay for five nights. One night around midnight I was woke by the room phone ring. I picked up the phone and said hello. The the other party handed out the phone. I had been like this for three times. When the phone ringed again. I just took the away. Later I heard someone punched the door hardly. I asked who is this. No answer. It’s really scary. I said I will call 911. I calle 911 and just take with them. Then the guy at the door said your car blocked mt car, I couldn’t got out. Then I handed out the phone with 911 and came out. The guy left and a lady in the downstairs. I asked her why you didn’t say anything I’ve the phone and just hangs out the phone. She said she couldn’t hear me. The phone has a problem. It’s approved I called the front desk last night and they couldn’t hear me. Anyway I parked at designated parking space perfectly. That space is smaller than tether places. But the hotel should put a sign there and tell people don’t park there. I checked out this morning, I reported this to the front desk that the phone is not working causing the problem…. The person punched the door was very rude. He should mock the door instead of pounding the door. The manager said this must be one of employees since they don’t release guest number to anyone. But she said you must didn’t park well. I was very angry and said I park very well. You should fix your phone and found out who is the person pounding my door. It’s a terrible experience.

Hotel was packed the first night so even though I reserved 1st floor, I was sent to the 3rd. The 2nd night hotel was more than half empty at around 8pm. I could see empty rooms much bigger than mine through the open windows being vacant. When I asked to be moved since they had sooo many empty rooms and mine was so small for me and my girl, I was told no because they might sell out... they didnt. Terrible customer service skills and even worse property.

Decent little hotel that I stay in when I come to San Diego if there’s rooms available. I’ve had a few problems with the air conditioning or a toilet, not being cleaned properly, but in general, this is a nice place. They serve a breakfast in the morning. Are there any complaint this time I have is that in some of the rooms there’s a smell of musty and I think it’s coming from the air conditioning. Maybe they need to change the filters. Otherwise I like to stay there. Oh, and they have a pool.

The room was small but clean (even the floors pretty much, which are often a problem in motels). I was pleasantly surprised by the breakfast, which included good, hot food and some of the best-tasting orange juice I've had in a motel breakfast - good pastries also. I missed having lotion available, which most motels provide.

We were only allowed 1 towel per stay & if we wanted a clean towel I was told to take my dirty towel to the front office to exchange for clean towel but before 9 am only! Walls are paper thin could hear all my neighbors in the surrounding rooms. Do not stay here it’s NOT WORTH THE MONEY

The location worked well for what I needed in San Diego, and check-in/check-out were both straightforward with friendly staff. The only real downside was the noise level. You could hear some noise from neighboring rooms and there was some activity going on outside in the early morning that made it hard to stay asleep through the morning.

I use to stay over 200 nights a year in hotels for work and needed to use up some OneKey rewards that were expiring. This hotel is by no means perfect but for the price it is excellent. The good is that it was updated and has a good looking decor with cleanliness receiving top scores. They must have great maids. The one knock is that there are zero USB ports and very few outlets. None next to the bed, only one over the center of the bed that you could not keep a charge pluged into. SO bring an extension chord or two. Also the neighborhood is a little loud (Toyota dealership) but thats only during the daytime hours. You can hear through the walls but its not bad. I was on the top floor and you are not in the flight path of the airport. That was a none issue. Parking was easy and free. TV required downloading an app.All in all, a 5 of 5. If it was expensive I would have knocked it a point but I think you will be hard pressed to find a newer room that is THAT CLEAN for even twice the price.

The location is quiet and near many attractions like Sea World, Mission Bay and downtown San Diego. It's a decent place if you are not looking to pay a lot.

It was disgusting. There was drug addicts outside, feces on the outside wall, filthy parking lot with homeless throwing trash around it while we arrived. The lobby smells like moldy damp air and stale cigarettes like a casino that flooded. I had to call 9 times before I reached someone just for them to tell me they won’t refund my stay based on these circumstances. We were here for my 8 year old son’s birthday at SeaWorld and it’s the last place I’d ever bring my family, I’d feel more comfortable sleeping in my car than in this place. Hotels basically just said “welp that sucks” after the hotel manager refused to refund my money. Probably one of the worst hotel experiences and that’s without even seeing what the room actually looks like, I can only imagine. 0/10 for hotel and Hotels.com on how they handled it.

The room was fine with the exception of two problems that seem to be repeating. There was a yellowish fluid in the toilet. I do not know whether this is cleaning, disinfectant or urine, but it has happened twice now in different rooms. In addition, they need to fix their USB. I have had at least four different rooms or different dates that did not have working USB ports.

Overall it was a positive experience. Clean room great breakfast. My last 2 nights were disappointing because of the party that was staying above me. Jumping, bouncing noisy until 2am!!

I came here for a festival and I arrived a bit earlier than expected but luckily Gina from the front desk was an absolute angel! She was very patient and accommodating while answering all my questions perfectly! She made my stay a lot better especially while traveling solo. I would definitely stay here again! We had a ground floor room which was clean, quiet and comfortable. The air conditioning worked well and it was nice to have a well equipped bathroom, microwave and mini fridge. The laundry was useful and breakfast was ok with some hot options. It’s location near the I 5 means it was easy to get around and it was less than 15 mins to the beach.

The room was dirty and quite rundown, with water damage on the bathroom door. The hair dryer didn't work because the bathroom outlet was malfunctioning. On the first night, the hotel lost power for 7 hours. The room smelled musty, and upon further inspection, we found black mold in the AC vents. We were told there was no other room available to switch to, but we could get a discount; however, they needed to confirm with the manager. The manager, Malea Chapman, said no discount, but suddenly, a new room became available. I asked to inspect the new room to ensure there was no mold in the AC; the manager claimed the unit had been recently maintained, yet I found mold on that AC unit as well. The manager was rude, asking if I wanted to leave early, and when I requested a partial refund for the previous night due to mold exposure, she offered only a 15% discount. Eventually, she agreed to a 20% discount for the previous night and a full refund for the current night, but insisted I leave the room immediately. There was zero customer service. She also told me I needed to contact Expedia for my refund and began walking away, refusing to look at the mold, claiming her employee had already shown her the pictures I sent. The Expedia representative was also unhelpful when I explained the situation, seeming in a rush to end the call. Both the hotel and Expedia handled the situation poorly. I’m only giving this a 2-star review because the front desk staff was friendly.

I will start with the room is very small, power outage from 10pm to 3:45am on Sunday night. Tried taking a shower while only cold water when it was very hot inside the room but still the water was way too cold to shower no (Hot water) because of the electricity. Group of people sitting in the pool area watching everyone that goes and come out of their rooms. The area is also not safe, Becareful out there ladies and gents.

We had a very nice time here overall! The room was nicely renovated but a touch small, but wasn't really a problem since we were only there in the evenings. The bed and pillows were more on the firm side, but not uncomfortable. Breakfast was good and the building was clean. There are multiple car dealerships immediately around the hotel, so not a ton to do in immediate walking distance, but Rubio's Mexican restaurant across the street was very good and the park down the street was very pretty! We would definitely stay here again!

The room was very nice, clean and exceeded our expectations. Hardly had any complaints. Located within a few miles of a shopping center made things convenient too. If you’re looking for something reasonably priced and comfortable this is definitely the hotel.

The bathroom was disgusting mold growing in the corners. The bathtub was very clogged and took 30 mins to drain after a shower. I thought $215 for two nights was a steal but I’d spend $500 to never do that again. Call me a snob but best western is dead to me.

Everything was great. The only downside was we ended up in a room right across the elevator so that was our view from our window, not to mention noise and having people standing there when walking out. But otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

The room was clean, except for they forgot to flush the toilet, which had urine in it. The USBs did not work. The rooms are small, but cozy. There is usually decent parking. The pool is small, but it is 5 foot deep at the other end, which is more than adequate. The swimming pool appeared to be very clean. I usually do not eat breakfast at this hotel but they usually provide a continental breakfast, including eggs, sausage, etc. this is actually a decent hotel although the inner hallways could use a good high-pressure washing. But I do recommend this hotel. One of the best things about this hotel is that it is centralized and PB, La Jolla, and Claremont Mesa are all nearby.

Overall okay, towels and sheets stained. Breakfast day one not much the second day they had more. Lots of dirt on baseboards and fans.

Our stay was decent, for the price it’s not to bad the free breakfast was convenient, didn’t have to spend extra money or travel far for some food in the morning although the options were very slim. The location was good, short drive to downtown and local attractions. What I did not like was how small the room was, it had a humid feeling in the air/ac so our room was constantly stuffy even tho we had the ac running all day. Our shower curtain had stains or some kind of dirt debris didn’t look so clean. Other than that our stay was decent and worth the price.

This is more of a motel than hotel. I did not stay. I checked out immediately and went to other hotel after talking with an expedia representative. I have few pictures clicked to prove my review. It is really a bad place to live.

Very nice hotel. Price is right, good location, no parking charges, clean, comfortable beds. Iverall, we would definitely stay here agaun.

Rooms were smaller than I realized but still a great room. Breakfast was great; kids likes going in the morning. They offer fresh towels daily which was nice. Great location too!

The room was really small and smelly. The bathroom smelled liked urine and the shower curtains smelled like mildew and damp. No one bothered to clean our room or empty the trash bins. The pillows were awful and I had to use my sweater as a pillow case because I had an ick feeling about the bed. I didn’t have the time and didn’t want to bother with canceling and looking for a different place. There were people hanging their clothes on the balcony. I chose this place because it’s “ by Best Western “. So dissatisfied and disappointed. This was the stain on my vacation.

Good breakfast, clean rooms

There was plenty of good soap, conditioner, body wash and hand soap. The cleanup towels were as what you could expect for an average motel. The shower water pressure was OK, however, the tub and caulking lines within the bathing area were mold stained and not fresh. The room does have a functioning, microwave, fridge, coffee maker and TV. Additionally, we were on the second floor, and we could really hear the noise from the upstairs room above us. This is just something to think about when staying here if you are sensitive to noisy. Lastly, the breakfast was standard-(waffles, muffins, fruit, cereal, eggs, sausages)- nothing was too special about it...but it was nicely done. Although the breakfast room itself was very messy and dirt on the floor. Final thought, if you are OK with the above listed issues that I would say that this motel is worth staying at. But if you like something that is a bit on the nicer side then I would say look for another option.

Room to small

I’ve stayed here a couple of times. Rooms are ok, but not very sound proof, so can be a little noisy. Unpleasant smell in room and unfriendly staff. I sometimes stay there only because it is usually, but not always, the cheapest option in Pacific Beach which is where I need to be. So basically it is just an ok property for just 1 or 2 nights.

The shower pressure was nice... the in room coffee was... ok.... 7-11 is walking distance... would recommend and stay again

The room was clean and the room was very quiet. Staff was helpful with getting the app on my phone for the laundry facilities.

Front lobby staff were awesome. They even called me when my Amazon package came. Safe. Quiet. Very clean. Slept great on the beds. Easy parking space. Delicious breakfast. Can't say enough about the great staff.

The power in our room went out. I noticed staff before leaving for the day. When we returned the power was restored. Room was a little tight for our family but we made it work. Overall we had a great experience. Mahalo

Typical run down motel in between car dealerships with a couple of nice restaurants at walkable distance. The bathtub had some red stuff all over. smelly A/C that triggered my eczema. Breakfast was super meh. Would not stay here again.

We arrived before we could check in, so Gina suggested some things to do, and then gave us a call as soon as our room was ready. Our room was small, but clean and had been recently updated. The bed and pillows were comfortable, the water was immediately hot and lots of channels on the TV.

Stayed for 2 nights and the smell was unbearable felt really musty came home and had to wash my clothing from my suitcase.

I thought the property was clean and the staff excellent. The room was quite small though and never figured out the TV. It was close to the beaches for the price and conveniently located near stores and Restaurants, though you had to walk to some of those places. I would stay again for the price.

Please, please spare yourself the trouble of staying at this hotel! The ONLY redeeming qualities are the very kind staff, and the breakfast was decent. The room, however was awful. Where to begin? Upon entering, I was hit with the worst smell of mold and mildew I’ve ever experienced! It aggravated my allergies so badly that for health reasons alone, I could never stay there again. There was mold in the ceiling above the bathtub. There were so many gnats in the room, both dead and alive. And, after about 10 minutes of running the heater, I had to turn it off because the stench was so strong I wanted to gag. It legitimately smelled like an animal had died inside. I am so grateful that I only booked this hotel for one night. Couldn’t wait to leave in the morning.

The room I checked into had not been cleaned yet. The bathroom was very dirty and when I tried to talk to the cleaning lady she did not speak English and just gave me towels and that was the end of it.

We’ve been on a 13 day road trip across California and stayed in several budget hotels, but this was by far the worst. The rooms smelled musty and unpleasant. We asked to change rooms — the receptionist was kind — but the second room was even worse. On top of that, the neighborhood is not pleasant and does not feel safe. I would not recommend staying here

Not enough wash cloths and towels at check-in and more never came as requested. The plug for the bath tub did not work so could not use the tub.

This property was a great last minute hotel, at a great price! The only downfall was at the room was very small, but otherwise it was very clean! It was super comfortable, it was quiet and definitely safe. I love that there was an elevator right by our room. The breakfast was perfect, just enough options. We also really liked the location as we were going to be in the PB area for the day and evening. I would definitely return and stay at this hotel. Also, I’d like to add that the receptionist at check-in and check out, were both great. They were very friendly and made it super easy to check in and out!

Our stay began with the room bot ready, it was 5pm, front desk said it was due to a staffing issue. The coffee machine in the breakfast room was not working, so no coffee for breakfast. Also Wednesday night all of the parking spots were full and we had to park iff site and walk to our room. Not sure we will stay here again.

The bed needs to be replaced as it was sagging, and my back hurt. The toilet looked like it may not have been properly cleaned. It wasn’t horrible, but it did look like it could’ve been done a little better. The staff at the desk do their job, but they could do it with a smile which they don’t. There were towels missing in my room and I had to ask for them and the phone did not contact the desk. I called four times and let it ring like 30 times and no one ever answered. I’ve been to this hotel about four times. The first time was excellent, but the last three have been mediocre. A previous room that I stayed at, had no air conditioning working. This time the air-conditioning was perfect. There is free parking, which is always a bonus. This is an old hotel but for the most part it’s decent. They just need to be a little bit more pleasant and make sure the rooms are cleaned properly and to replace bad beds. I would still come back, for what I paid. But I would not like to pay any more than that, as there’s probably more newer options for that kind of money.

Fine for the price. Would have preferred not having a door to the outside. A/C was sketchy. Only had 1 towel in the room when we arrived. But the beds were comfortable and everything was clean. Breakfast included.

The only good thing about the property was how nice the staff was! Everything else was a bust. Dirty shower and bathroom. Uncomfy bed. Breakfast was late everyday... and no coffee.

The room smelled musty and the floors were dirty. The common areas were discusting and smelled like a dumpster. We wanted to leave as soon as we got there but we were beyond the cancellation period. Don't be cheap like I was, spend more money for a nicer hotel. We couldn't wait to leave...worst two days of our vacation!

Safe and quiet.

I paid for two rooms for two adults. They stated that Orbitz only sent a request for one room. Had to find another room at a different hotel for another room, wasting gas and time and money.

Room was clean and bed was comfortable... Hotel is super quiet!

Long walk and carry upstairs due to elevator on only one side. Breakfast is only fair. Good staff and clean.

I was pleasantly surprised by the property. The room was updated. It was very clean. They had amenities that made it comfortable to stay there, the refrigerator, microwave, comfortable bed and pillows. And free parking outside the room.

The room was small but OK for one person and comfortable and very quiet in fact. It would be nice to have some drawers. Limited space for personal items. The breakfast too carbohydrate and sugar oriented. Practically no options for people like me that do not eat gluten or sugar. I could only eat those reconstituted eggs, that do not taste good at all.

The representative Gina was very nice and had great communication and hospitality!

Check in time and a washing machine issue, both time the stuff did great help. Thank you.

Easy parking, easy access to attractions!

The room smelled bad, and the beds were uncomfortable. I have stayed at several economic hotels but by far this is the worst I’ve stayed at.

The room smelled so much of fumes like fresh paint but the paint was obviously old. AC is a wall unit , did not cool at all , only made it humid. I called front office requesting a new room or a fan & they stated they could not accommodate. Nor did they have fans ! I mean for 150$ I assumed they would be better . Only good thing was free parking .. didn’t try their breakfast

The front desk lady was pleasant and nice. The inside and outside was very clean and well kept, the only issue was a homeless person living in their suv parked in one of the parking spots and the parking lot is already small and limited. Other than that it was clean, quiet and nice stay.

Breakfast was great, room is good. I called front desk to ask what time was Breakfast. Her response was its on the card. She refused to give us a hour. So we called again now that time they told us the time.

The bed didn’t feel like a queen it felt like a full

The rooms were clean. Next door to us they started to play loud music at 2am in the morning that woke me up and you can hear the traffic .

Decent accommodations. However, the rooms are small. Housekeeping never cleaned or provided towels during my entire four day stay. I was informed on the second day you must request housekeeping and they only service rooms every other day. I got my own towels from the front desk every day. Housekeeping did not service my room on the second day either. I was not told about the housekeeping schedule when I checked in.
