Reviews
The hotel reviews indicate a mix of positive and negative experiences. While the staff is frequently praised for being friendly and helpful, the property itself is often criticized for being old, dirty, and in need of maintenance and updates.
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Reasonable rates
- Dirty and unkempt rooms
- Old and poorly maintained property
- 5/5
The staff here was kind, prepared and helpful. Room was extremely clean. Check in was quick. Parking is easy. No issues whatsoever. Breakfast in the morning is great, too. If you’re in San Diego for business or with the family for a theme park/beach vacation, this is a great home base. No frills, but exactly what you need. I would book again. 10/10.
- 5/5
Clean room. Staff was nice. Great parking. Golf...eh. breakfast awefast but needs to be kept up until the end. Ran out too fast. All and all I enjoyed my stay . It was great!!!❤️
- 5/5
The hotel has been recently remodeled the rooms were very clean and the amenities were well kept id definitely recommend this place.
- 5/5
The property was perfect it was affordable and very nice. The continental breakfast was good and the pool and hot tub were such fun amenities.
- 1/5
They didn't give us an additional wash cloth even though we had two people. The walls are upper thin, could hear every person walking above or below you and it shook the room sometimes. Anytime I shifted on the bed you could hear the springs.
- 4/5
Can have better room service, breakfast was really great
- 2/5
The floors in the room were dirty, covered in sticky stuff and dirt. After asking the front desk if someone could come up and clean it they assured us it would be, but it never happened after 2 nights of being there. I don’t usually complain or leave reviews on places but this one is based off of principle.
- 3/5
The room was dirty
- 1/5
The hygiene is really poor, and the house is not soundproof
- 3/5
The description of the bed on the website site was queen bed but the actual size was a full bed. The gym is almost not usable. There is no game room as described on the website. The toiletries was insufficient . The aircon in our room was so noisy everytime it runs on and I was not able to sleep because of the loud noise it was producing every few minutes .The place could use a little bit more cleaning and fixing up. The staff were great though and the breakfast was good. The price we got was good but you really get what you pay for.
- 5/5
The room was really clean
- 3/5
Having said all this, it WAS clean, the bed was fine and the staff friendly. It appears they are making an effort to upgrade.
- 1/5
Staff were nice and helpful but too the place was too noisy
- 2/5
Room was not ready even after 2 hours of my check in time and had to wait for 30 minutes after I arrived. Key cards were a mess. Had to insert like 10 times before they actually work. TV didn’t work for anything.
- 5/5
Staff was great, room was clean and the area was quiet. Breakfast was also included which was a bonus for the price of the room.
- 5/5
Location, value, free parking and behind gate so it is saver. All entree to rooms and parking visible from the front desk. Room clean, staff helpful. I recommend this Hotel. Free breakfast good waffle and orange juice.
- 5/5
Thank u raul!
- 4/5
Newly renovated, room is clean, very reasonable for the price, i would suggest the floor to be vacuum and wiped clean more, free breakfast, area is so good! Close to everything, the staff r amazing! Special thanks to everybody specially RAUL, very nice guy! I booked this hotel for 3 nights, plenty of parking and very secured, i like it bcoz its “no pet allowed” however wen i was there they told me they start accepting guest with pets, which i dont like bcoz of the smell and the pets surely will lay down the bed, not good to me with cat and dog allergy,
- 5/5
Rooms are very clean and nice, not cluttered. Only suggestion/request: blow dryers in the rooms. Pool & hot tub are sparkling clean, quiet and the loungers are very comfortable. The landscaping is stunning! You can tell there are personal touches done for the visitors to make the stay more enjoyable. Highly recommend and would stay again!! Thank you!!!❤️
- 1/5
Room wasn't clean, got charged by the front desk for my stay even after I notified them that I had already paid via Hotels.com. Breakfast was terrible, they ran out of food all 4 days I stayed the the property. The hotel does not look like the pictures posted.
- 3/5
Rooms very small.
- 5/5
Great location near movie theaters, shopping & restraunts
- 3/5
The staff was kind and helpful. The room was NOT as I saw when booking on expedia, I looked through the pictures and saw the sink had a counter so I would have room for my makeup. When we got to the hotel it was a tiny single sink that had no room for anything not even toothbrushes. After seeing this I went back to expedia and saw that they used the same picture of the bathroom for every room. The shower was also troublesome, as you could only get cold water or steaming hot water no in between.
- 5/5
Jorge will and James ARE my absolute favorites although i’m not quite sure why, but it will be a mission of mine to figure it out because I will literally drive myself crazy until I do. I’m pretty sure that girl up there that works at the front desk. Just don’t like me for some reason and I don’t like that I’m a pretty likable person so it’s gonna drive me nuts until I figure it out just know that chick at the front desk.
- 5/5
Staff is excellent and helpful ! The property is undergoing repairs and is looking good! Enjoyed my stay !
- 3/5
Unfortunately they overbooked and were not able to give me a double bed room and had to go for the king last minute. Also, it was barely 10:45AM and I already had a man knocking hard on the door as I was changing getting ready to leave the room just checking to see if I was almost leaving, mind you checkout is at 11AM. I then went to the checkout desk and no one was there, I had to step into the dinning area and after a few minutes a girl came out, very snarky like I was supposed to know that key drop off was exiting the parking lot...Also, lots of noise in the early morning, I understand renovations are happening but not worth the price. Room looks very nice and fancy, bed was comfortable...overall the place could do better as far as customer service and treating guests with a lot more consideration.
- 1/5
The room was incredibly dirty, smelled like mold, and the towels smelled like mildew. Toilet and sink were not clean. Body wash was empty. The hotel looks very old and run down, I’d say the photos are misleading. I would not stay here again.
- 5/5
It looked newly renovated. Clean and cute. No hidden fees.. great staff
- 4/5
very noisy from the highway
- 4/5
The room was very clean and nicely remodeled. The pool and spa were clean and well maintained. The property is located next to a beautiful nature preserve. The sheets and towels were not the finest quality. They are basic and functional. The breakfast was great and the kids enjoyed making their own giant waffles.
- 5/5
Clean room staff was very informative and helpful when needed. Breakfast was good!
- 5/5
The two different women that ran the front desk were knowledgeable specially with reservations considerate very informative about times and when I became hungry they show cased your sweets after hours . You know I would of liked a little more time in hot tubs I haven't tooken a bath in at least 9 months and I was very happy about the tubs in the bathrooms very very happy breakfast was delightful all we could eat very polite we have decided to make that hotel our go to from now on
- 2/5
However... The hotel itself is VERY outdated, the toiletries and bedding were worn out and terrible quality. For example, the towels were very rough and one had a tan stain on it. The pillows were almost completely flat and the pillowcases and sheets were so rough it felt like paper towels. The AC leaked about 2 cups of water on the floor each night. The shower handle was damaged, so the hot water adjustment was in a different location each time I took a shower.
- 5/5
Very nice employees, everything clean and very comfortable.
- 5/5
The whole experience was.excellent
- 2/5
I don’t know why there was no rule of maintaining silence on the property after 10pm but the staff did not care whatsoever about people and their children in the pool all the way passed midnight. Our room was just above the pool and we could hear them for hours. Just so inconceivable why people think that’s appropriate time to basically party.
- 4/5
Very good
- 2/5
The staff were very helpful and the place was clean. They did say that they were newly remodeled and some of the rooms are still under renovation. Our room was on the 3rd floor. You can still hear the noise from the outside from people walking by your room and the street across. The beds were very uncomfortable. My wife and I usually prefer a firmer bed but we can tolerate a soft bed. But our bed in our room was just bouncy. It felt like sleeping on springs alone with little padding. Not comfortable at all. The room was newly renovated per staff but the shower felt very unstable. It is one of those prefabricated plastic showers that is assembled. If you push against the wall, it will move. The vent system needs to be addressed. Our a/c unit keeps kicking in every 5 minutes or so being set at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. That added to the noise level. Overall, the staff were great. The free continental breakfast was decent, parking was free. So if you’re looking for just a place to sleep and can overlook the complaints mentioned here, then stay here. If not. You’re better off spending a few more bucks to get a more comfortable experience with your stay.
- 5/5
Very nice staff and great breakfast. Night light on 1 side not working but was there for 1 night so didn't even complain
- 3/5
I feel like if I'm staying at a hotel the least they can do is have bars of soap and toiletries. The complimentary breakfast was not complimentary at all the only good thing about the breakfast they have to offer is the waffles and that's because you make them yourself and the Yoplait yogurt was good. The rooms are outdated and I recommend going across the street to the Best Western it would have been better.
- 3/5
Basic hotel very close to highway and hard to get to with traffic. Good AC and big TV with just streaming options. Comfy bed and pillows. Secure parking lot where you need your room key to enter and exit. Small toilet and weak shower and tap pressure. Hand soap and body wash containers empty and even not affixed properly. Shower drain seemed rusted and there was hair, not cleaned properly. Decent breakfast with scrambled eggs and sausages though the sausages were cold!
- 4/5
Good location
- 5/5
Very good for the price this my point
- 5/5
Clean room, a/c and heat and awesome breakfast included
- 4/5
clean room, but didn't expect a motel style hotel, the pictures avoid showing the front of the hotel, where the room doors are directly visible to the outside

Beautiful up-to-date location, clean, the staff was extremely nice very resourceful with a quick and easy check-in. When we got to our room, it was spacious. I love that they offered free parking. The breakfast was good for a quick bite and go. They had various items such as yogurt, cheese, fruits, bagels, and waffles that you can make. I would definitely be coming again. It was an affordable and very comfortable accommodation. Thank you guys!!

This hotel is a good budget friendly option! Ideal for shorter term I’d say. The showers hot water is iffy. Breakfast was great so that’s a plus. Fitness room had no fans so it was so humid and hot. And no wipes to clean equipment off after others used it. That made it hard for me to use this amenity. I think it was overpriced for what you got but nonetheless it was clean, bedding needs upgraded and then it’d be comfortable too and match the price more!
- 3/5
Shower water kept on running all night would not turn off. Restroom door would not closed. Elevator needs to be updated 2nd day continental breakfast was not ready at serving time.
- 4/5
Staff was helpful room was clean did not disclose the hundred dollar security deposit until I checked in. Very attentive to rude guest that caused a problem late at night. Breakfast was fantastic. Very close to a lot of the attractions. Would definitely stay again.
- 4/5
This was a great hotel. Only thing was the TV didn’t work and there was no blow dryer in the room. The breakfast was amazing! Waffles, yogurt, cereal, pastries, fruit, juices, and so much more!

Only mini towels for cleaning. No coffe table. Only one chair . Breakfast has no breakfast potatoes. The price is not wortthed for this stay .
- 5/5
Decent hotel in budget. Highly recommended. Thanks for your hospitality.
- 5/5
I was pleasantly pleased with a hotel, the room was clean. Breakfast was good parking was included, would recommend the only downside was that the rooms did not have dressers to put your clothes away. Other than that, I was happy with my choice of hotel.
- 5/5
New owners? Completely renovated to best. Staff was above & beyond amazing such that there could not possibly be any dissatisfaction. Highly recommend, especially for the price.
- 5/5
The breakfast was wonderful. The staff was great. Genuinely good vibes. And everything was clean. The outside was a little scary but that’s just the area. That’s not really their fault. But they were working on the gym and pool but I’m excited for when they’re done with that.

Smart TV wasn't working the first night and when I contacted the night staff, they weren't able to help me. Having one elevator makes it difficult when they place you in a room across the building. Cleaning was subpar, there was hair on the floor and in the fridge. The shower faucet isn't intuitive. Parking being blocked off from the hotel by a small concrete border is horrible if you're forced to park deeper within the lot because you will have to walk around this concrete border to carry your luggage from the car to the hotel. There are luggage carriers but you'd have to bring around the concrete border which feels very inefficient. The bed has no friction from mattress to the metal frame under the bed. Any sort of movement will push the bed outward and you'll have to push it back or be uncomfortable. Not the best stay but decent, I guess
- 4/5
clean room parking good breakfast
- 5/5
Nice area clean friendly employees
- 3/5
The room was very small. The hotel seemed as if it was a very old building, with paint painted over it. The tub was dirty. The TV wouldn’t work. There Internet was very weak.
- 5/5
Staff was very nice, very helpful, everything was clean, quiet and close to everything, and breakfast was delicious, 10/10
- 4/5
One night stay with my kids. The property is being renovated and looks way cleaner with the new owners. Room was small but bed was comfortable. Kids enjoyed breakfast. Didn’t have a chance to try the pool. Will stay again.
- 5/5
no satisfaction with clean , the staff very satisfied , also the breakfast very good, thank you
- 4/5
Very good
- 3/5
Elevator was broken & I was given a room on the 4th floor, on the freeway side of the building ( noisy).
- 1/5
Was under renovation. It was actually a dump. I would never stay there again
- 5/5
Very clean room, staff are friendly and attentive. Parking was easy and location was great 👍 Can't forget about TV! I could stream my shows I watch at home there which is a big plus! Only problem I had was that there wasn't a refrigerator in the room as website stated. But they were very apologetic and offered me to move the room which I declined. Breakfast was great too. I highly recommend. I will stay there again since we stay in San Diego often.
- 5/5

Staff location and cleanness Breakfast wasn't so good but I can't complain for the price I paid.
- 2/5
Room wasn’t clean. Washroom door was not properly getting locked. Not a good experience for this rate.
- 5/5
All staff were very welcoming! The room was clean. The breakfast was good. Parking was gated with a code. AC worked great and wasn't loud. Location was very convenient, close to the airport and attractions. Would def recommend!
- 3/5
The air conditioner did not work properly the first day. The room had a funny smell. However the staff was very helpful and very nice!!
- 4/5
Staff was excellent….The was a chair in the room but no desk or work space
- 4/5
Very good
- 5/5
This was a great stay and it included breakfast and parking.
- 2/5
My room was clean and the staff were very polite and helpful. The problem was the area which is pretty scary due to the many drug users and a large homeless encampment in the area. Actually this is a problem all over SD. As a single woman traveling alone I did not feel safe outside of my room or in the parking lot. It’s one of those older motels with the room door opening to an outer walkway, so you can’t open your window or curtains comfortably. That said, the Alcala is close to everywhere you want to be in SD, including downtown, the beaches, and Sea World.
- 5/5
Cute little hotel and for the price you can’t near it. I would maybe recommend higher quality bedding and pillow cases. They were ok and maybe providing better shampoo and conditioner options than the little travel size bottles. Other than that the rooms were clean and the decor was updated and super cute.
- 2/5
The entire hotel itself is under construction. Nowhere on the website is it disclosed that the property is under such heavy renovation.Upon check-in, we were not told that the pool was out of service. It took us getting ready for the pool with our two month old, to get all the way down to the pool area only to see a very small sign posted about how the pool was also under construction. Ironically, I myself checked into the hotel with a bikini and swim cover-up on, so it was very noticeable that we were interested in swimming. The younger girl working the front counter was doing her best to check in as many people as she could, but she repeatedly stated how understaffed they were. It just seemed like the hotel wasn’t prepared to continue service if they were under such heavy construction to the point where it would affect their guests. Location was great, just unfortunate that we were staying on hotel row and could’ve booked a better experience had we’ve been notified ahead of time of everything being not up to the same standards of the other hotels nearby.
- 5/5
Staff was super super nice and helpful
- 5/5
The rooms for very clean and renovated. Everything was comfortable in the room. The only thing that we didn’t like were the breakfasts as they were all carbohydrate as in waffles, bagels, cereal. No fruits, no meats no eggs. That would be the only thing that I would say that they need to improve on.
- 5/5
Clean room
- 2/5
Disappointing
- 5/5
Older property but under renovation at this time which includes the pool. Can't smoke on property or off balcony and must sign waiver. Has potential and staff is polite.

- 3.5/5
I like that hotel is renovated and room is clean, but it's still good old hotel/motal with a facelift There was a coffee machine with pack of drip coffee and sugar, but no stirrers, no bottle of water
- 4/5
The breakfast was great and I enjoyed my stay!
- 4/5
Keeping in mind this hotel is being renovated; there is still a lot of work to be done. The bed was comfortable and the room clean.
- 3/5
Property is clean. Room had lack of furniture. No place to work with the computer, no countertop in the bathroom, no chairs. Some of electrical outlets have loos terminals and couldn't hold phone chargers. The extreme limited clothing storage space and there is no place at all to put suitcases.
- 5/5
The staff was very nice. The breakfast was the normal fare. The room was perfectly fine for an overnight stay.
- 5/5
Great
- 3/5
Breakfast was great. Many selections. Tv in room did not work. Only 2 towels. No hairdryer. Sheets were like sandpaper. Very nice staff.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean room, it’s outdated but improving with renovation, easy parking.
- 5/5
As we are from india I would like to request please include either boiled egg or egg omlets. As we are not familit with the options of wafle. Also some prefer egg instead of bread..
- 2/5
Room looked ok.
- 3/5
Parking was terrible. You can hear footsteps above you. Never will return
- 4/5
It was an average hotel. Kinda old, rooms are tiny but comfortable, no microwave in the rooms tho:(
- 4/5
This was a really nice day. The most notable part was the really friendly and helpful staff. The rooms were good and it was a great area.
- 5/5
Place was fabulous, well kept up and friendly staff that were very courtious
- 4/5
I like the check in it was very simple and they explained everything perfectly to me and they were so kind one thing that did disappoint me was when I tired to shower there was no hot water at all in the shower or sink it did disappoint me but tiene than that it was a clean and nice hotel can’t wait to see how it looks after it’s fully renovated
- 5/5
Both afternoon night time staff great Morning staff real great and both super helpful & very friendly Facility real nice. Great location
- 5/5

Everything was clean and nice, great breakfast 😋
- 4/5
Freshly painted rooms and new amenities. Breakfast was not great - No eggs, No Sausages etc on any 4 days of my stay. 5 Stars to the staff. all of them were friendly and kind.
- 5/5
Muy aceptable.
- 4/5
This property is currently under renovation. It was a pretty good stay and not far from sea world and the zoo. Staff was very friendly
- 5/5
Motel still open while under renovations, great room, perfect location for many San Diego attractions. Staff were all so nice and helpful, nice bonus with breakfast.
- 3/5
Nice stay, would've been better with a fridge and microwave, renovations were going on. Would be nice for an update when booking rooms.
- 4/5
I like the cheerful and helpful staff. They could improve by adding more towels in the room
- 5/5
Free Parking
- 5/5
Pool and hot tub were not open so that was disappointing but staff were great. Breakfast was a little slim but workable being it was included.
- 4/5
Awesome and friendly staff! Breakfast was great 😊
- 5/5
Sehr zu empfehlen.
- 4/5
Staff is over the top amazing! Hotel is under construction, get ready to brace the scary looking elevator(rides just fine). The room’s are clean and spacious. Check in was a breeze. Parking is super easy. Breakfast was great as well.
- 1/5
My room had no hot or warm water in shower and construction was going on for renovations.
- 5/5
The staff was very nice and helpful. The rooms were nice and cozy. Just redone, the breakfast room was clean and enjoyable. Location is nice, quiet and secure. No parking fee is a big plus. Will be staying here again.
- 1/5
Room had a smell.Additionally I perceived a new paint smell that was unbearable, rooms need to be exposed to air to get rid of that smell before they make them available. Elevator make scary noises and it takes an eternity to go from 3 rd floor to 1st floor. Food available for breakfast is extremely limited, no healthy choices except green apples. Going in and going out of property is a hassle, you have to swipe room key to get in and to get out. Shower doors are dangerous, doors are heavy and out of alignment made of heavy a fragile glass.
- 5/5
Everything was perfect, the staff very friendly place was clean and minutes away from everything ( by car )
- 2/5
Unfortunately, the rest of my stay was disappointing. Several amenities were unavailable: the pool and hot tub were out of order and not expected to be fixed until the end of summer, the picnic area was blocked off, and there was no business/office room available. My room also lacked a proper view, facing only other hotels. Inside the room, there were multiple maintenance issues. The door was not sealed properly, allowing bugs to enter since it opened directly to the outdoors. The hot and cold water were reversed in the shower, one sideboard light was broken while the other flickered, and the walls were extremely thin — I could hear neighbors at all hours. These issues made it difficult to relax or sleep comfortably. While the staff truly did their best, the overall condition of the property and the number of unavailable amenities made the stay far less enjoyable than expected. Because of this, I will not prioritize booking this hotel in the future.
- 5/5
Such a great hotel and excellent customer sevice! Very accessible, clean, and it is in a quite area. The staff at the front desk were phenomenal (cant remember names) as well as the housekeeping. Despite the ongoing rennovations everything seems great! Breakfast ia good but we opt outside as we are exploring new places to eat. Definitely recommend this to my friends ans will come stay here again when back in SD!
- 5/5
All the staff were super friendly and helpful.
- 1/5
Room was terrible, bed sheets were scratchy and the shower barely worked and was stained. Pool and hot tub were closed as well :/
- 5/5
The room was brand new. Staff was helpful especially Raul. Would book again
- 5/5
The room was clean, parking was simple, and the staff were great.
- 5/5
Your absolute best value for your money. Great location, minutes away from seaworld, the zoo and the beaches. Rooms are super clean and staff was the most helpful and welcoming. 10 out of 10
- 5/5
The women in the front desk was very nice and welcoming
- 3/5
Friendly staff. Secured parking. Clean room.
- 3/5
Old hotel undergoing renovations, no pool or hot tube available due to renovation. Can tell its an older building but the rooms are clean.
- 2/5
I would really appreciate a refund
- 4/5
Positive note though is the staff are friendly and welcoming and the room was very clean.
- 4/5
The hotel is still under construction, so only a small section was open. The room was spacious and clean, but still smelled like fresh paint. The breakfast was simple, but decent.
- 2/5
After I checked in (front desk person was very nice). I was directed to the back of the hotel. Which was dark and hard to access. I had to zigzag up to the 4th floor where there was a group of men loitering in front of their room. Also the elevator was draped in construction type blankets. Pool was closed (no prior info was disclosed about the closed pool). The room was small and clean. Tv did not work! Stains on the wall in the shower. Coffee maker didn’t work. Do not recommend.
- 5/5
Hotel was great! I will definitely be back soon!!
- 5/5
Raul, the morning front desk manager, is an integral part of this hotel and exudes professionalism, patience, and flexibility when dealing with patrons. He is wonderful, not only to chat with when checking in or out, but also goes above and beyond to meet the needs of the people staying at the hotel. He is a huge reason why I keep coming back to this hotel and has always made me feel welcomed and appreciated. The house staff is diligent and professional, and I appreciate all they do. I highly recommend The Alcala Hotel for anyone looking to stay in San Diego. Raul and the rest of the staff will definitely make sure your stay is comfortable, safe, and enjoyable.
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly and helpful, but most importantly, the room was very clean. I would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Very clean nice rooms, they are in the middle of a remodel and it's great how new and clean everything is, I totally recommend staying here. Staff is super helpful and friendly.
- 5/5
Clean room, everything is new, great staff very friendly and welcoming. The showers had great pressure and very warm/hot. This is my second time staying here and it won't be the last.
- 4/5
Clean room, and staff were very welcoming.
- 5/5
Really nice newly renovated rooms, free parking, and breakfast included — which was especially important for our young family. Comfortable stay, convenient, and great value.
- 3/5
In renovation, not a lot of customers. Need a lot to fix.
- 5/5

- 5/5
Very clean, everything in the room was new. Great service
- 3/5
The property is currently undergoing renovation. The room was well-maintained and clean. The staff provided excellent service, and the check-in process was efficient. I particularly appreciate the secure gated parking, which ensured the safety of my vehicle.
- 5/5
Everything about the Alcala was amazing . From the newly renovated room and cleanliness to the staffs customer service and hotels location . I’ll definitely be back !
- 5/5
Close to everything, definitely a good place to stay!
- 5/5
The overall atmosphere was calm, and the location was very convenient for getting around. I’d definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

The property itself was very clean, the room was clean, parking was safe, they're still under construction, and renovations. The elevator was working. The only thing that I can say negative is that the walls are not sound proof, there was a man in the room next to mines, yelling all night and slaming things, fighting I couldn't sleep all night. I can compare this hotel with a motel 6. The only difference is their amenities. They also charged me for the room in advance and after I arrived they took $100 more as "deposit ", which supposedly will return to me in 7 days.
- 4/5
What a gem of a hotel. Well maintained by a helpful and very pleasant staff. The bed was comfy and I loved the included breakfast and coffee. SCORE!
- 5/5
Cute hotel. Great value. Would definitely stay again
- 5/5
The location is a standout. We were close to everything we wanted to explore, which made the whole trip effortless. Great value, great vibe. We’ll definitely be back.
- 1/5
WOULD NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN! PEOPLE KNOCKING ON DOOR AS I CHECK OUT EARLY FOR THE UNSAFE STAY & WENT SOMEWHERE ELSE
- 4/5
Customer service awsome! My room was atrocious. No towels, sheets stained and tub was dirty
- 4/5
The hotel was being renovated while we stayed there so I hope that it gets updated nicely. The rooms are a bit outdated. The door in my bathroom was broken. But it was a convenient location to get around to all the sight seeing places in San Diego.
- 5/5
Yes
- 2/5
Staff was very nice and helpful, however, police were there twice in one night. The pool and room are very old and outdated.
- 3/5
Good condition
- 1/5
Don't stay unless you sre in desperate need of a sowhat chest plsce.
- 2/5
First the jacuzzi didn't work that was my main purpose i picked that hotel second no microwave in the room they didn't let me use a small air fryer i had and third they were done people telling and fighting at 11 pm
- 5/5
So comfy it was hard to leave
- 3/5
Staff were great, the room could have been better.
- 2/5
Front desk staff was amazing but everything else was lacking. They never cleaned the room once in three days, never replaced the soap and shampoo, floor had hair on it, towels had long hair on it, bed creaked like it was on its last screw, and I had homeless hanging out by the hotel. Just an overall bad experience
- 4/5
The bad wass not good the reast was ok
- 3/5
Staff are a five star crew and A+. They were very accommodating, helpful, pleasant and really great people. Yet the property needs TLC and to be invested in to improve to an overall five star stay. Location is convenient as well and for the most part pretty quiet. You can walk your dog nearby also which is really great. Laundry, ice machines, and vending are on site. The room was pretty clean. We stayed for only one evening so it served its purpose.
- 2/5
We booked this hotel expecting the quality shown in the online photos, but the actual experience fell far short, particularly regarding cleanliness, maintenance, and safety. The most concerning issue was security. A rear guest entrance with a keycard scanner was broken and remained open at all times, allowing unrestricted access to guest room areas. Anyone could enter freely. During our stay, there was an elevated conflict on the stairwell involving individuals we could not confirm were guests, and police later arrived to assist. This did not feel like a secure environment. The room itself was poorly maintained and inadequately cleaned. There was visible corrosion on the bathtub faucet and drain, a filthy bathroom exhaust fan, and hair left in the shower and tub from previous guests. Marker drawings were visible on the floor, and general wear and tear went far beyond normal use. The window showed what appeared to be mold or organic growth and had heavy condensation. The air conditioning unit was extremely loud, making it uncomfortable to use, and even when turned off, the room remained uncomfortable. Tubs placed under exterior AC units throughout the property suggested ongoing moisture or leakage issues. Overall, the condition of the hotel did not reflect the listing photos or the price paid. Based on the state of the room and common areas, we did not feel confident that requesting a room change would have improved the experience. This stay did not meet reasonable expectation
- 4/5
staff is good. hotel could use some upkeep, but for the price it was ok.
- 1/5
Everything was awful
- 5/5
The staff was friendly as always. Room was cozy and clean. Great bang for your buck hotel stay in San Diego!
- 4/5
Not bad.
- 3/5
The room was not bad although the wifi signal strength was very poor upstairs.
- 3/5
The staff is extremely nice, but the room unfortunately had an odd smell that lingered on you all day
- 2/5
Was given only one bedsheet, no blanket. Handyman opened door without knocking. Woman screaming in parking lot at 7 am. Key stopped working by 9 am on checkout day. No one answering phone in lobby. Grimy tub, furniture and floor worn out. Run down hotel. Regret coming here, won’t be coming back. Avoid.
- 5/5
Clean room and great staff!
- 1/5
The hotel got flooded
- 3/5
The room was okay. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location wasn't convenient. Not close to any restaurants or stores.
- 1/5
The room is terrible and not at all clean. Washroom is very very dirty. It looks like they don’t clean the room and they didn’t even have hair dryer in the room
- 2/5
Property was dirty. Staff was friendly.
- 1/5
Tagging in the elevator. Mold in the bathtub. Animal poop by the ice machine on the second floor. Dirty plungers left on the walkway. Horrible experience.
- 5/5
Great room
- 4/5
Helpful staff
- 4/5
I
- 2/5
The jacuzzi was green with foul-looking colors. Rooms suffer from excessive moisture and have mildew. Per the city, there are homeless people active in the area and staying in rooms. I would not describe the hotel as a family-friendly, safe environment. It was economical for the purpose we needed it.
- 1/5
The pictures on the website of the rooms are not at all the room I got.
- 2/5
Dirty
- 2/5
The room and the lift had a weird smell. The beds made lot of sound and the bathroom door was hard to close and open. Fridge never gets too cold and microwave is only on 2nd floor. The only positive in this hotel is the front office friendly staff.
- 4/5
We had no pets, the room was clean, but our bathroom smelled like urine. I had to wash it myself. I found the elevator useful. Overall the stay was good.
- 1/5
Worst hotel experience of my life. Do not believe the pictures. I usually know what to expect depending on what I’m paying. This hotel stay wasn’t the cheapest and not the most expensive but the condition of the room we were given was terrible. Outdated room with oxidized metal surfaces, moldy lamp covers, broken locks, paper thin walls. Felt totally unsafe. Only stayed the night because I arrived way too late to book a different hotel, canceled the rest of my stay and booked at another location nearby. I wish I could post pictures of what it looked like. Terrible.
- 3/5
The area was somewhat difficult to access and dark in the evening
- 5/5
The good rate is for the front desk staff. We were concern about the bathroom door, didn’t close and open correctly. And some weird smell in the room. You should take care on both for next guess.
- 1/5
Very cheaply renovated. Fells like motel 6. Lighting in room wasn’t great either and although no bugs seen I definitely was weary of them.
- 3/5
It was ok
- 2/5
Noise from room kept me up there and other places and nobody could notice it might seem. America hate groups are also not such a good or new thing. Nobody’s business
- 2/5
Ok just not a great lobby and motel format should update security
- 5/5
affordable prices and pretty cleaned
- 1/5
Furniture was all beat up pealainf and water damaged. Very thin walls. No attendant was thier 24 hrs. Tryied to call front desk about 2am to complain about running up stairs . And slamming of doors arguing next door. Seem like drug dealler or something going on next door with lots of peopl in and out all night drunk girls making noise. No one at front desk to aswer. Want to leave and check out but did not know if we would get refund. It was worse experience i ever had staying in motel or hotel.
- 1/5
I was told I'd get a text when my room was ready to no avail. There were transients all over the property. Elevator had an expired inspection on it, with it barely working. Never again...
- 1/5
Was terror watar was shut off next morning the staf dont tell me nating the nighit before after i see note on the door off the room a 8am was no water we let early to use the restrooms on the restaurant was more on 1/2 day whit not water on the room was real terror
- 5/5
yes
- 3/5
It’s okay for a budget hotel, location is awesome
- 2/5
Photos of property did not reflect the actual room rented. Property had a strict smoke free policy charging $250 if caught smoking however, once in room.. it reeked of smoke. The bedding had a cigarette burn on them. Room was noisy, you could hear everyone walking by, stairs were broken which created a safety hazard.
- 3/5
On n’a pas pu dormir , des gens qui hurlaient à côté de notre porte et réveil à 5h du matin par des cris Toujours trop de bruit Mais le reste ok
- 2/5
Very humid room to the point that the window was soaked on the inside. Musty smell too. Furniture was very worn down. Fridge was noisy and leaked on the floor while defrosting. Stain on one of the bed skirts. Bathroom fan was noisy. Mattress was lumpy. I did have an incredibly noisy neighbor the last night there, and when I called to complain, it took two calls for someone to pick up. They did talk to the neighbors, and it quieted them down for a while, but I still didn't sleep well.
- 1/5
I found a drug baggie on the floor, my fridge didn’t work and the room smelt like stale cigarettes, the coffee tasted like burnt pretzels ewwww, I won’t be coming back!
- 1/5
Someone tried to break in my room
- 1/5
This is a homeless hotel. The photos are completely deceiving. From sketchy guests to creeps in the back parking lot. This hotel looks nothing like the photos. It is run down and dirty as hell. For the price I paid $150 a night, I thought it would be atleast decent. But it was terrible. It was too late to cancel and find another place to stay. Here are the problems I’ve encountered: Long process for checking in, guests in the lobby smelling like marijuana, smelly room, dirty stained towels, some creepy person in the parking lot crouching in a corner, the bed…. Now the bed was the worst. Loud and very uncomfortable. The shower was not great, water would get very hot and then warm again. You can hear everything and anything at this hotel. Overall, I would not come back or recommend this place to anyone. Unless you absolutely have no other place to go. Sleeping in your car might actually be better.
- 1/5
Pet friendly yes parking yes place run down and have a nasty smell
- 1/5
Good price. Pet friendly. Nice staff. But, dirty, old, wore out, shady people passing you at night under dimly lite lights. Some screens pushed out of windows. Poor overnight parking lights.
- 4/5
Awesome staff
- 5/5
Inly complaint is the location is extremely secluded, which is peaceful but is difficult to navigate and i was unable to find a walkable path out of the area.
- 5/5
Everything
- 4/5
The beds were uncomfortable, the mini fridge didn’t work. But other than that the staff was very nice and very helpful.
- 4/5
Close to the important things around the arei.e. the airpot, denny's
- 1/5
Property is run-down. The room smelled bad when we walked in. The beds sunk way down when we sat on them and they were loud and creaked. Property has homeless people around. You can hear every noise outside. When people walked by outside, you can hear them speaking clearly from inside the room. There was a bug. The shower did not look clean, but my husband and I came from the beach so we had to shower there as soon as we checked in. We did not sleep there. We left for dinner, then checked into another hotel. There was no way we were staying the night there. It smelled and seemed gross and not safe. The staff were friendly. We only interacted with 2 staff members upon check-in. They were both nice that’s the reason I gave this review 4 stars for “staff & service”, but 1 star overall.
- 5/5
It was lovely
- 5/5
Would definitely stay again!
- 2/5
No good Bathroom
- 4/5
Certain rooms are better than others. Stay away from rooms near or over the pool area..
- 4/5
Is good for the price, very close to airport parking
- 2/5
No hairdryer, no microwave, no cleaning everyday, anyone can access (this homeless when to the stair with a big tube... it was scary... told the front desk and said can't mobe from desk)..........
- 1/5
tbh this is such a bad hotel that I’ve ever stayed. The facilities were so bad, the bathroom door is broken, couldn’t close. Never be back
- 4/5
The staff was friendly, clean
- 3/5
Smoker's in the pool area.
- 1/5
This isn’t even a 1 star. The lobby does not look like that picture. The rooms are terrible. The bed had to sunk holes in it. It so old and falling apart. People live in the rooms. If it was so late we would have left to go somewhere else. If you expect holiday inn quality forget it.
- 5/5
Peaceful
- 5/5
I love the hospitality
- 2/5
Pay more at check in. Front desk say it is the service fee. Trash all around the property and out side of the rooms. I ask for lower floor and she give me the 4th. Floor and I have a broken leg and I can not walk a lot. Bad service
- 3/5
Great location!
- 1/5
Hotel room was absolutely disgusting. Walked in and immediately smelled like cigarettes. There was a dirty bandaid and used bar of soap in the bathroom. Part of the floor was messed up as well as some rust like stain on it. Wet spot on the side of the bed as well.
- 1/5
This is really just a one night stay motel. Will not be staying here again
- 1/5
Yes this is a cheaper option in San Diego however, the pictures felt like I got catfished. Also the room was dirty. The floor I didn’t want to take my shoes off. The shower was obviously dirty with dirt marks. For next time I will plan ahead and not book last minute.
- 3/5
Hotel was below average. Decent place if you’re in a problem
- 3/5
It was a place to lay your head down a door to lock a shower to shower and a toilet to use....
- 4/5
Very nice and well located away from freeway. Card entry suspect hsd to get new keys everyday.
- 4/5
Crack heads. Bad location. Decent room for price.
- 1/5
It’s one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed at. It’s like a rundown motel. Everything in the room was in bad condition. The bathroom was old, lights would stop working, the water pressure from the sink and shower sucked, it was leaking at some point. The bed was horrible, mushy and bumpy. We stayed 4 nights and not a single day did we get room service. Had to call the front desk for everything and they don’t bring it you have to get it. You hear absolutely EVERYTHING! The pool and hot tub disgusting!! The elevator feels like it’s going to stop working any minute. They ask for everyone’s id, which is weird! You need a key card to get in and out of the parking lot and it dosent work half the time so you have to go to the front desk and, they’ll fix for you. Don’t stay no matter how cheap it is. It’s not worth it! Also a lot of sketchy people around the property.

- 2/5
The bed was big and kind of uncomfortable. The bedding or the bed was loud every time you moved around. The room itself was not as nice looking as the pictures on the website. The pool area and jacuzzi were not maintained properly, you could see the grime spots in them from the 3fl. The parking lot has stragglers that look like they didn’t there . The stairwells up to your floor are not secured. Anyone off the stress could access them. One other thing my bathtub had a black grime on the inside of it it was pretty gross but I used an old scrubber I had to clean it off. The pro is the hotel is close proximity to everything. The staff was friendly and nice. The room need better improvements and cleaning, hopefully it was just a fluke job by someone. But if you’re in the area give them a try and see what your experience is.
- 1/5
Property is rundown. Mattress inspired us to check out early. Staff were great about it. Should have checked the reviews.
- 4/5
Older property. Easy parking. Nice staff
- 3/5
The lady working the front desk was very nice and pleasant got me checked in pretty quick and no issues with the reservation. There was plenty of parking I saw a security guard on site so that was nice. My complaint is the beds man they were terrible my sleep wasn't the best even if I was there for one night. Rooms could use some work shower was okay.
- 5/5
Safe property. Staff was out of this world amazing. Nice, helpful, respectful, and professional. The front desk staff was incredible!!
- 1/5
Old and dusty hotel
- 4/5
Terrible pillows amd overall a great value
- 5/5
Staff was friendly
- 1/5
This was the worst stay I have been in a while I had planned a trip with my two toddlers let’s start by saying I felt unsafe here there was homeless people all around the area some sketchy people too coming in and out of the hotel too would never recommend this hotel the room was dirty run down gross had to put towels on the floor to step on always made my kids wear socks I felt so dirty being in this hotel. Yes the staff were friendly but the hotel deserves a 0 the first room they gave us had no AC they said it was just put there basically for decor and moved us to another room where the moment I walked in had a strong bleach smell we had to get out of the room due to it being so strong I even got a bad headache for days after the tv was horrible quality light bulbs looked burnt it was horrible loud noises coming from the top room kept getting woken up to heavy stomps people running down the halls I honestly was ready to leave. Was really hoping I didn’t wake up to my car being broken into had a homeless guy also blocking the entry to the building once too smelled like weed honestly worst stay ever! Stay away from this hotel especially if you have kids! Pictures are edited to make it look nice never saw the golf area they have in the picture didn’t even dare try going to the pool as sketchy people were always out. Stay away!!!
- 2/5
The property television didn’t work and even after two days of informing the staff it was never fixed. Shower did not get hot.
- 1/5
I have now. 1st clue was when they gave me a key to a room that was already occupied. Then when we got into an unoccupied room we found this: A god awful stench Something gross oozing down the walls Rat dropping under 1 pillow Pubic hair on the other pillow The staff at the front desk was very kind and considerate. The only good thing in this hell hole. We went across the street to the Best Western and had a lovely stay.
- 1/5
Nasty
- 1/5
Do not stay here. The photos are misleading and this place is really bad.
- 4/5
Nice rooms
- 3/5
I didn’t like that the floor seemed dirty, I asked for another mop down of the floor and when I got back it didn’t seem like they did it.
- 4/5
It’s was active as F…
- 5/5
Excellent
- 5/5
I had a great visit
- 1/5
Do not come here, the pictures or not representative of the rooms. I did not stay the night room smelled like bleach and furniture was old and nasty.
- 5/5
A nice property.
- 5/5
No microwave in my room
- 5/5
Okay
- 5/5
Nice location
- 2/5
Chipped paint on walls, no trash bags for the rooms. (It’s not what they do there, is what was reported to me) Community trash bin at the end of the halls pilled high. Bed very uncomfortable. Uncleaned bathroom. ( was reported to the front desk, I was not offered housekeeping at that time, until 24hr later) At that point I was ready to leave. Try disappointed.
- 4/5
The staff was pleasant it was a little run down, but clean. The mattress was really hard and hurt our back.
- 3/5
Loud neighbors,old rooms ,
- 4/5
It was good for being cheap.. but the bed was broken in the middle, there was trash behind the mattress, and the fridge was kinda ehh looking.
- 1/5
Hotel was very dirty and smelled like mold. Bed was sunken in and there was no trash bags. Overall very run down properties
- 5/5
Awesome welcoming staff and very comfortable and relaxing accommodations. As well as great location and adequate parking.
- 5/5
The staff at front desk were all absolutely genuinely friendly and courteous, and very welcoming. Housekeeping were also nice and helpful and not intrusive. A very comfortable stay for sure and I would highly recommend staying here to anyone.
- 1/5
Pass on staying here. Staff was nice but pictures do NOT represent the cleanliness and caliber of this place.
- 2/5
I am not typically that critical, but this place needs a big renovation. My hat is off to the marketing team for making this property look decent on their website. The whole place needs work especially the showers. Lastly, it's hard to trust a place that has to warn you to lock and deadbolt your doors. Unfortunately I booked for two of my colleagues as well who are female and didn't feel safe the entire visit. The place feel like they charge for rooms by the hour. Not a great experience.
- 3/5
Ac was not functioning properly, it was cold, bed sheet was not clean, blanket was very light, lotion shampoo in packet very inconvenient to break it, will require small scissor, not hot or warm available, fauset needs repair, or change, bath tub need complete rehave, galvanized leaving inside bath tub, floor need to be clean, safely door broken, entry lock need to be change, metal chair need to replace , overall improvement needed. Daily observations and inspection will satisfied and solve above problems.
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
Everything about the property was very comfortable the staff were friendly the rooms were playing the maids were friendly it was a good location convenient and a very comfortable stay I would recommend it to anyone.
- 2/5
It was dingy, sheets were dirty and the room smelled. Elevator was disgusting and pool was unswimmable
- 5/5
It was nice
- 5/5
Staff was super sweet and room was spotless, for the price you cant really complain much 😊
- 5/5
Great pool and spa.
- 1/5
No towels in the room. The room had someone else’s hair in the bathroom
- 2/5
We did not have the best experience at this property. The location is shady and the photos were super misleading and were taken shortly after the property was remodeled several years ago. Not the most secure nor the cleanest.
- 3/5
Room was clean and comfortable. Was looking forward to the hot tub but it was green so didn’t brave that.
- 5/5
Clean
- 1/5
A lot of homeless people around the property and staying in the property. There was a homeless encampment right out back. Blood splatter on our restroom wall, housekeeping came to clean it but nothing else was offered. The beds were also made but nothing was changed from the previous tenants it seemed.
- 1/5
Walls, door, baseboards, floor, curtains were all dirty. Floor wasn’t swept or mopped. Toilet wouldn’t flush and door handle to bathroom fell off. Room was just disgusting. Bed sheets and blanket smelt really bad and blanket wasn’t warm enough.
- 3/5
Broken bath door
- 1/5
I wasn’t expecting much, but at least a clean place to sleep in. The restroom was very old and dirty, and the bathtub was so dirty that I didn’t want to shower in it.
- 5/5
👑
- 5/5
Front desk is always super helpful & nice! I can't begin to thank them enough for everything they have helped us with! Always in a timely & easy-going matter!
- 5/5
Staff if awsome
- 4/5
There wasn't any place to eat within walking distance, and I don't drive. Some kind of simple breakfast fare would be nice. Cereal, muffins, bagels, maybe some fresh fruit, that kind of thing.
- 2/5
Rooms smell damp and moldy. Uncomfortable bed. Very worn furnishings
- 5/5
Great place convenient to grocery stores the mall restaurants and friendly staff, only thing at night bunch a weirdos but other then that perfect place especially if you love nature and going on short hikes there’s also a baseball field in a dead end so yeah I enjoyed it very much also quiet
- 2/5
Dirty and moldy
- 5/5
Good boy
- 1/5
Couldn’t sleep with the window open because it was right next to the freeway and super loud all night not to mention the homeless people wandering around all over. Front desk told me to wait till the morning and speak with the manager. I did and she shrugged me off and told me to call and speak with someone else later.
- 3/5
The room and bedding were very clean. Stairs could use painting. If you are comfortable with a variety of people and shaing a couple of microwaves to re-heat your food you will find this place an excellent bargain.
- 1/5
Rooms smell horrible !!
- 4/5
It was terrible
- 2/5
Nothing unique at all.And very dirty stairways housekeeping every 4 days???
- 2/5
Pool and hot tub looked disgusting Worst mattress ever, bed made noise even with slight turn. And definitely very pricy for what you get.
- 1/5
Checking in was fine, and the staff is helpful. However I felt that I over paid. I will not stay here again.
- 2/5
The sink drain smelled awful every time the faucet was turned on, there was no dressers, the bed was a low quality spring. A very limited room especially for the price.
- 1/5
We checked into a room then two guys used there key card to open the door to the room which was assigned to us. We did not feel safe at all, so we immediately checked out of the hotel. What a nightmare.
- 5/5
The staff is always so helpful and awesome.
- 2/5
Uncomfortable. Definitely had a better expectation than what I walked into. But I made it work.
- 5/5
I travel a lot for work so the hotel are a must for me and I was very happy about this one
- 4/5
Only there 8 hours.
- 1/5
check in was about 5 mins, customer service was nice but overall i would not be coming back. Our stay was for three days, two nights. We only stayed for one night cause the bed was old, and uncomfortable. Looking at the pictures you would think it’s a nice and clean place to stay but it was far from that. My advice is to stay at another hotel.
- 1/5
There was a broken chair in our room, and it looked generally unclean. It was just a gross place.
- 1/5
It’s evident this inn has many people living there that are really struggling. This was more like low income housing than a hotel/ inn. Honestly, I feel like I should get full refund for this stay. Expedia is disappointing me with options these days . Last year it was rental cars, this year, lodging. What’s happening? I feel totally taken advantage of. I paid almost 3x the price of the going rate my husband found on line the next day. This is gouging in my opinion.
