This place was lovely, as others have said it was "old fashioned" but in the best way- nice furnishings, plenty of space, comfy bed, old fashioned tub and shower but good water pressure, and gorgeous lobby and free coffee. Really a great value in SF.

I have stayed at the Kensington Park Hotel many times, and have always been pleased with the accommodations and the staff. The hotel is right on Union Square, within walking distance to shopping, Chinatown, North Beach and more. This time, I arrived approximately two hours before check-in time, and was so happy that I was able to check into my room early. It was very clean and well-appointed. The front desk staff and valet were very helpful. I enjoyed having the fancy water dispenser - with many kinds of water for water bottles - in the lobby. I will definitely stay here again!

Location is fantastic. The room was clean but dated. The sinks are far from standard, about 1-2 feet shorter than they should be. Very odd to have a sing reach maybe mid thigh (I’m 6’). Room was quite warm despite it being cool outside because the heater puts a great deal of heat into the closet which poured through the door. Window opened only 6” but cooled it enough for this time of year. Breakfast is coffee and tea (in 10oz cups) and individually packaged madeleine cookies. There is an Elks lodge and a theater in the building.

It is a pretty old hotel, but it definitely makes up for it with the inexpensive rooms. The water temperature fluctuates a little bit, but you can get used to it. If your window is facing the side of another building, it can actually get noisy with the howling wind. The hotel has an awesome water-filling station for your reusable water bottles in the lobby for hotel guests. You can get flavored waters or even waters with electrolytes, vitamins, etc. Other than that, the room is cleaned pretty well. Also, Manfred, at the front desk in the mornings, is very nice.

We really enjoyed our stay at this charming historic hotel in San Francisco. The location is perfect—just steps away from Union Square—yet the room was quiet and peaceful. We stayed on the 11th floor and had a great experience. The lobby seating area was cozy and welcoming, and the front desk staff were very professional and attentive. We especially appreciated the complimentary coffee service from 7:00 to 10:30—it was excellent! The building itself is one hundred years old and beautifully maintained, full of character and charm. We would definitely stay here again.

I absolutely adored this hotel! From the gorgeous lobby to the nostalgic elevators and the friendly staff, I would absolutely book it again if I ever visited San Francisco in the future. Our room was a little small so we couldn't get pass each other between the bed and the desk which was a little annoying, and there wasn't anywhere to put your toiletries - but the overall experience more than made up for the minor inconvenience. Thank you for the complimentary morning coffee and Sherry! We had a wonderful time.

The key cards kept demagnetizing multiple times every day even though they were alone in my pocket so we were always locked out. There are no public lobby restrooms, so one time the attendant was helping me get rekeyed and then stopped to answer the phone and left me there for over 10 minutes. I had to leave to use the restroom in the restaurant next door. The 2 elevators are wildly slow, and service people also ride in them with giant towel bins and mops, so you wait. On our last day, I had to extend our stay due to plan changes. Checkout was at 11, our keys shut off at 10. When we asked to rekey AGAIN, the attendant insisted on checking us out, then checking us back in, and us paying immediately. He said, "You pay now or no key." My husband had to use the restroom so I asked if I could pay after he got the key first, and he said no. This is INSANE. So you wait for the elevator for 5-10 minutes, you get to your room, key doesn't work, wait for the elevator for another 5-10 minutes, then go wait in line to rekey....unbelievable. At this point you are better off going anywhere else. We used the bathroom in the room only a few times because we were always locked out. Also, I didn't appreciate the insinuation that we were somehow going to skip out on paying - you have my credit card on file!!! Overall, the service was poor and lacked any human kindness or professionalism.

The Kensington Park Hotel is a well-kept-up older hotel. It has a theater for live performances, especially plays, on its second floor by one of the area's most-awarded groups of actors. I went to a performance, and the acting quality was excellent. The hotel has not installed air conditioning in its rooms, but the ceiling fan kept my room comfortable, if a bit breezy. The hotel is across the street from an early morning bus pick-up for tours to Yosemite Park which is why I stayed there. The nearby luxury hotels were all booked-up and expensive. This hotel is quite near downtown San Francisco's main square so there is good shopping and nearby restaurants. The area seemed safe and nice when I was there.

This trip was booked for an employee who ended up having a heart condition leading to a procedure which required him to miss the trip. We reached out to the hotel 5 days prior to the reservation through hotels.com and the hotel directly regarding a partial or full refund. The hotel management we spoke to were rude, dismissive, and kept repeating the same incorrect information. They would tell us to contact someone else who would return our calls. We have stayed here for years, and that did not matter to them. We will not be using their hotel again.

I checked in a bit early because I had an early evening wedding to get ready for. When I checked in they said it would be a "small fee" for early check-in even though my room was already ready. I didn't really have a choice so I agreed (but I did not ask for the cost). I took a shower in the afternoon and the water was cold but I had to shower to get ready. I was running late so didn't say anything. I tried to take a shower the next morning and it was too cold to even get in. I reported that to the front desk when I checked out. That did not seem at all surprising to the front desk person. I asked if there was anything they could do to compensate for the lack of hot water and was told the manager does not make approve adjustments for those types of complaints. They did not even waive the early check-in fee which ended up being $50! I don't consider that a small fee. Overall, quite disappointed that there was no attempt to compensate me for what should have been a non-negotiable in a hotel room.

I thought it was highly overpriced for what was supplied, not even a bottle of water in the room. The position was good and it was clean but that is about all that was positive. I would not stay there again at that price.

We saw a play inside the hotel at the SF Playhouse and it was fun to stay over night in the same venue as the play. The lobby is vintage SF and pleasant. There was only one working elevator and it was old and slow, so there were lines that took awhile to get up and own from our floor. Our room was clean but very small. There was nobody else on our floor, so it was quiet. But we wondered why we were given such a small room considering no other guests were up there. It was in a separate little nook, and seemed like half a room. Even the sink in our bathroom was oddly short (it would be good for someone less than 5ft tall). When we went down to the lobby for complementary coffee/tea and madeleines, almost nothing remained at 0915am. I did get a trickle of coffee, but no more hot water for tea and no madeleines remained. Empty containers. Overall a "meh" experience. We will not stay there again, but we will keep seeing plays there.

The hotel is primarily an Elks Club facility with several floors of commercial hotel. It is an old building, and the rooms are small or at least feel cramped, with very limited drawer space for your clothes. No ice machines on the floors ("for safety"), so you have to take your ice bucket to the front desk and then they insist that it be delivered to your room (for a tip). The staff is excellent and helpful. The management strongly recommends that you not ask for maid service ("for the environment"). Biggest drawback for me was the weak water pressure and burning or lukewarm water in the showers (plenty of cold water!). Great location; however, just steps off of Union Square. Close to Powell Street and public transportation. For all of my whining about minor issues, I would stay here again as it is well-located, quiet and affordable.

I booked thru hotels.com. I booked Friday thru Sunday I paid the amount on there for the e days. No where do the promote that you have to pay 60 to 80 to park a day. So I checked out Saturday due to an emergency during check out they wanted my card so I can pay the valet which is fine. I get my car setting up navigation and I get a notification that is was charged an extra $300. After I already paid before arriving just a bad exp

They are so strict with the check out time, and only one elevator working, had to wait for more than 5 minutes twice that morning, I requested 20 minutes for check out, after a 4 day stay!!!!

The hotel was good, happy with it mostly. Pretty old and dated room, climate control needs to be better. Protesters outside very early each morning. Not the motels fault but not great. Generally a good motel I would stay again.

The hotel has a unique lobby, it’s welcoming. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The coffee and biscuits are nice in the morning in the lobby. It’s close to union square, walkable to fisherman’s wharf, but you have to consider the steep hills, china town is walkable.

I had fond memories of this place from years back, and decided to give it another go.The place is OK, and the staff is fine. Parking is outrageously expensive. Pro Tip: Park yourself in the structure around the corner - it’s about half off the valet price. Disturbingly, Expedia double billed me for this stay, and the KPH manager is working with them to refuse a refund to me, even though the double billing isn’t my fault. Stay somewhere else if you can. And use Orbitz.

Staff were friendly snd courteous. Its very convenient to walk around restaurant, theaters and parking garages. It is also reasonably priced for the room..it was very loud and the windows are soundproof, that we can hear the protesters down the street early in the morning. They provide free mandalines, biscottis and coffee and hot chocolate by the lobby for free. Room was clean and spacious for me and my husband. The hotel was little bit old, i think they should change the head boards, sliding doors in the shower and probably make the beds more softer or comfortable. We will definitely come back to this hotel.

The staff was very helpful. I didn't like the noise from the hotel strikers. It was numbing and went on and on--I was in a front room and I couldn't hear myself think think for almost three hours on Wednesday morning and again the next morning.

Right down the street from Union Square and all the shops and dining one could want or need, this location was perfect for our plan to ‘walk the city’. Everything was in walking distance. The Powell cable car runs half a block away and many your busses left right across the street. Friendly staff, clean room, historical and charming hotel. Zero issues and would stay here again.

We stayed here for the last 8 nights and it was lovely. Great location for getting just about anywhere in the city, the staff (especially Adam!!!) were lovely and the hotel itself is charming. It shares space with the Elks Club and a Playhouse which was fun for the atmosphere and the interesting people coming and going. My partner and I took full advantage of the free sherry in the evenings when getting back from long days of exploring. There is a free water machine in the lobby to refill your bottles, which was also handy. Only criticism I would have would be that one elevator was out the whole visit which made for some long waits. Thank you again, and we miss you already, Adam!!!

The hotel has inexperienced staff that are rude. I booked a room up for my associate for three days and she was not aware that the check out day was today and so she didn’t take her stuff out of the room. The staff insinuated that she was trying to be sneaky and have a room for free. Now, how would that be possible? She just was unaware that the room was not booked for one other night. We wanted to add another night but the staff was so unfriendly and insulting. We had to check out immediately.

Picked this hotel because it had parking according to the description. And this is very crucial for downtown San Francisco. Parking is exclusively valet that cost extra. Which we obviously payed. Other then that very nice hotel and the restaurant where we had brunch was really good.

This is a jewel of a hotel, perfectly situated right at Union Square. We loved the classic decor, and couldn’t believe the fact that we could see a live musical right inside the hotel, the SF Playhouse! Everyone at the front desk was gracious and helpful.
