No carafe in the guest rooms. So, bring your own water bottle for refill. Refill stations only on 2 floors. No coffee or tea in rooms. Parking is best at the Japan Center. Pay more and park at the hotel but don't forget to book the parking at the time of reservation to avoid full lot on the day of arrival.

Armani, great personality, very nice and welcoming.

Perfect location!
- 4/5
The room was clean and the staff were attentive. The location of the hotel was perfect. So why did I take a star off? Well, first of all the beds were not very comfortable. The beds were too soft and kinda sloped off the sides so you felt like you were going to roll off. The bathroom layout was ridiculous; there was a ton of empty unused space in the bathroom when more counter space would have been helpful. The counter around the sink was not enough for the toiletries of two adults. The door to the bathroom opened out and blocked the exit and was maybe the worst part of the whole room; this is something you might need to experience to understand how annoying it was. The room could have used more storage in general; there was plenty of empty room for extra furniture. There was no dresser with drawers to put your clothes, which is really helpful if you're staying more than a few days and need to organize. Lastly, I would have liked to have breakfast available, and also tea/coffee all day instead of just 6-10am. The tea and coffee were good though, so I will give them that. We also never got our free bottle of wine.

Ideal location on edge of Chinatown. We had sunny corner room.

wifi in the room was awful, made it very hard to work from the room

A little noisy 9-10 o’clock out in the 4th floor hallway. I had to check our door 3-4 times as I thought someone was trying to break-in. Nothing seen. May have been a guest in & out of their room not being considerate of others.
- 2/5
I didn’t like it, No parking, we have to park one block away from the hotel and we got stock because the parking opens at 9 am
- 3/5
The service was so slow, we would request items listed such as dental kit and they just forgot to give it to us. We waited for hours, and then no apology, similar thing happened when we asked for a kettle and for towels. House keeping frequently only gave us one fresh hotel. Rooms were not sound proof either, not an issue if you don’t mind noise of traffic and sirens. Location was good!

Clean room. Updated bathroom. Lovely evening happy hour and fresh coffee in the lobby every morning. Front desk staff couldn’t be more accommodating!

Big room, great bed. Staff is super friendly. Very god parking lot. Shower was a bit weak, but still hot and good.
- 3/5
Overall just fine, but probably not as modern or well-appointed as other Kimpton properties in other cities I’ve stayed at in the past. Balcony was not cleaned before we arrived, a few roaches (spent joints, not insects) and a bell (odd, like from a Christmas decoration). TV entertainment system was dated and the room didn’t make great use of space.
- 5/5
Clean room, helpful and polite staff, private parking on site, lovely neighborhood
- 5/5
Lovely decor, nice and calm and clean
- 5/5
I really appreciate the fact that I see familiar faces when I come year after year. This shows you treat your staff well. Thank you for that!
- 5/5
Great, convenient and clean- the only problem I had was the lack of availability of park parking spots on the street and the small parking slots within the garage- apart from that- excellent stay.
- 4.5/5
I love the huge room and bed! Very comfortable. Great location.
- 5/5
It’s our new favorite place to stay in SF :) Thanks, Enso team!

Location was excellent - quiet and convenient for getting anywhere in San Francisco. Staff went above and beyond at all times and the complimentary morning coffee and ‘wine hour’ was very much appreciated
- 5/5
Everything was very comfortable. It would have been nice to have had one comfortable chair in the room. The front stairs. they were a little daunting as they were very uneven.

The room was very large and clean. Staff was friendly. Bed was comfortable and there were many things available if you forgot something at home. The room was a bit overpriced and could use a couch and table. The room was so big but felt empty. The shower leaked all over the bathroom floor. Parking was really difficult. The garage is set up funky and extremely difficult to park in.

Excellent location! Easy to get anywhere from the hotel. Close to nice shopping and restaurants that are not touristy. Only drawback is a very small gym and no spa or sauna.

Excellent location next to Japantown - very easy to walk to nearby mall and restaurants. The rooms were very quiet and the attached garage was perfect for our car.

As far as Kimptons go this was definitely the worst I’ve been to. Fine area but the rooms just felt a little dusty

The restaurant/ bar was amazing. Viola was a great bartender and pointed us to new and exciting drinks. She was also very nice and provided excellent service. The only issue, and it’s an issue I have had at hotels in San Francisco, the walls are very thin. The residents in the next room morning conversation could be heard as if they were in the room. However the whole experience was wonderful and will book again.
- 4/5
clean room, spacious, safe and clean area, closer to restaurants.
- 4/5
Nice hotel! The room was tiny though.
- 5/5
Excellent room, excellent staff. Our SF hotel when we visit that great city.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean room, close to everything
- 3/5
1) the WiFi barely barely works (like 1% of what you'd expect 2) the room smelled (smoker before me?) 3) walls paper thin, you can hear every person walking by (nothing you can do about that)
- 4/5
Yes, this property is not as “luxurious” as other Kimpton properties but it is TOTALLY worth the location. Quiet neighborhood, lots of food options and you don’t have to deal with hobos, drug addicts and human feces like you would in the downtown/SOMA area. Union St and shopping is a nice walk over the hill and an easy, convenient bus stop that takes you right to the Ferry Bldg is across the street. I only wish it had a TV with streaming options. Nobody does cable anymore!
- 5/5
Room was comfortable and light. Staff was uniformly frindly and helpful.
- 5/5
Clean, welcoming staff, convenient, great location, comfortable bed, quiet and the water refill stations were a plus! That there was no parking for us at the hotel
- 4.5/5
The bed was very comfortable! The room is spacious and beautifully decorated. The daybed by the window is lovely. The location is convenient to all the major sights. The staff was very attentive and helpful. The bathtub was not always clean.
- 4.5/5
Very helpful staff, great location, and nice rooms. Each room seems to have a bay window which makes them really enjoyable. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the beds are great, and the environment is relaxing. The lobby is down a half level, which makes it a little dark. Perhaps a little more lighting and more separate seating groups would improve it. Otherwise, this is a wonderful hotel.
- 5/5
Excellent location, great access to public transportation, clean, and spacious ! Nothing
- 2/5
Room was clean, good location, parking easy. The walls are super thin, I didn’t get any sleep. I could hear EVERYTHING happening in the room next to us. I am not a light or sensitive sleeper. It was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. We live in the bay area and just wanted a cozy night in the city. I would not book this hotel again.
- 5/5
Great location; incredible stay. Entire staff was super friendly and helpful. Room was impeccable in amenities and cleanliness. I’ve stayed in other Kimptons and the Esno did not disappoint.
- 5/5
Great hotel, perfect Location
- 5/5
Room was clean, staff friendly and helpful and location was perfect for our needs.
- 3/5
Friendly Staff. Location not what I expected. Hotel a little old, needs some updating.
- 5/5
We were comfortable at 68 degrees. The room was as pictured, staff were friendly and being in Japantown was great fun.
- 3.5/5
Great location in the Japantown and close to O’Farrell street. No ramp for suitcases at the entrance. Rooms can be quite noisy. Water pressure was rather weak. Room service was too late in the day.
- 0.5/5
I raised the issue and suggested they really need valet service, or at least some kind of parking solution. The response was that they can’t afford valet or security. There was no accommodation offered and no concern shown — staff acted as if this was a new or unusual problem, rather than an ongoing issue they should already be prepared for. The hotel was also very noisy. I could clearly hear people talking on the patio and in the hallways, doors slamming, and even a dog sniffing in the room next door. The lobby setup was uncomfortable and awkward — everyone sits on a single couch facing the entrance, so when you walk in it feels like the entire room is staring at you. Not welcoming at all. For $300 a night, you can find something far better and far more hospitable. I would not stay here again.

Street noise/road noise, couldn't be helped. We were on 7th floor, and its at heart of Japantown. Better quality bath and wash towels needed.

Great staff, clean and spacious rooms.

Nice room, really comfy bed, love the Japan Town location
- 4.5/5
Absolutely wonderful hotel
- 4.5/5
The location of the hotel was AMAZING. We loved how close we were to Japantown, and it made it super easy to reach restaurants, shops, and more. The pillows were a bit too soft and weren't super comfortable.
- 5/5
Amazing staff. Room was ready early. Location is so great, literally overlooking mall in Japantown. Rooms lovely, warm and inviting. Not a single complaint.
- 4/5
The hotel is clean and nicely decorated. The parking is easy, although we noticed it did fill up and charging stations were sometimes occupied by non-EVs. The beds are very comfortable. The staff is friendly. They offer a charming hot chocolate bar with morning coffee.
- 5/5
Clean rooms, helpful staff. Geeat Location for Fillmore and Japantown shopping. Parking on site. Excellent stay.

What stood out for me at this hotel was the accessibility and friendliness of the staff!

Greatly exceeded my expectations. Very clean and comfortable, and probably the quietest hotel I’ve stayed in in SF.
- 1/5
Too few agents on the desk, so did a digital check in and my key didn't work so I hand to stand in line to get a key.

Clean room, but our door was not able to shut all the way. The top of the door was bent. So it felt a little uncomfortable and unsafe.

Centrally located in the heart of Japantown you can get almost anywhere in San Francisco with a short bus ride. The hotel was quiet and comfortable, super friendly staff. We will definitely be staying here again for our future visits.

Rooms are updated and clean. Nice coffee bar in the morning and happy hour in the afternoons. Centrally located in a nice area.
- 5/5
Very clean in nice location
- 5/5
Stayed here for a quick trip with my husband and loved the location and how close it is to Japantown eateries. The hotel is beautiful and nicely appointed. The lobby has plenty of seating if you’d like to hang out and in the morning have coffee and tea. Our room was spacious, clean, and very modern. We had a soaking tub in our bathroom which was a nice touch. We were able to walk to dinner and our concert at The Fillmore easily. The hotel has parking onsite for an additional charge which made it easy to get in/out. The hotel staff were pleasant and helpful. I’m happy with our choice to stay here and will happily return.
- 4/5
Friendly and nice staff, convenient restaurant on site, great location for Fillmore and Japantown. Room was a little noisy from housekeeping staff.
- 5/5
The A/C worked great and kept temperature. The room was very clean and welcoming with a cute view of the nearby plaza breezeway to Japantown. This would be a great place to stay when they have festivals!
- 5/5
Clean room with a great restroom. Enjoyed staying here very much and would consider booking there again.
- 5/5
Great hotel, was their for work and made my trip super easy.
- 5/5
All around great experience.
- 5/5
The rooms and property were clean and the area was walkable to good bakeries, restaurants, creameries and coffee shops.
- 5/5
Wonderful hotel steps from Japantown with the best restaurants and shopping. Love this place, so clean and comfortable. We will be back!
- 3/5
Rooms were nice, but door hinges need to be reversed for easy entry and exit.
- 5/5
The overnight manager was amazing and very helpful. The individuals who checked us in were also great. Will definitely be back soon !
- 5/5
Love the Enso. Very clean and spacious rooms. Great being in Japantown with dining and shopping options. Nice to have parking in SF even if you have to pay for it. Would highly recommend!
- 2/5
There were complementary coffee and snacks in hotel lobby but went twice in the morning but pots were empty and lot of other people were waiting as well. Stay was not cheap and would expect the hotel to do better with refreshments or at least have vending machines that work. Area was generally good and lot of restaurants at 10-15 minutes walk from the hotel. I booked it as it was close to German Consulate so I could walk without having to carry phone.
- 5/5
Fine hotel. Parking expensive
- 5/5
Great Bartender!
- 5/5
Hotel was nice. Great location with character
- 3/5
The hotel is pretty “straightforward” for the price point. No amenities beyond gym and parking that you have to pay extra for.
- 3/5
No chair to relax in. Only a desk chair. Restaurant did not have very many choices for breakfast.
- 5/5
Excellent staff!!
- 5/5
Loved the location. Great hotel! Clean rooms and loved the decor. Front desk staff was amazing!
- 5/5
The staff here is stellar- so accommodating and kind, they always were happy to help with any questions or assistance needed! The hotel is modern and fun, the happy hour is delightful and the rooms are spacious! Love how dog friendly it is. We will be back!
- 5/5
Great spot right across from the main Japantown square with great food.
- 4/5
The staff was great; the hotel was clean and in a convenient location. The hotel is overdue for a remodel and the restaurant was not very good, coffee was watered down and the pancakes my wife had were tough.
- 5/5
Great hotel. Clean rooms and great customer service. Location is perfect. Enjoyed the wine hour. Highly recommend. Comfy beds. Loved the late check out option for members and membership is free!
- 5/5
Easy check in. Crisp, clean lobby, elevator, corridors, and room. The most comfortable bed & bedding. Enjoyable wine hour. Decent free morning coffee. Excellent hotel dining at HED11. Bus access in several walkable locations. Shopping & eateries nearby.
- 5/5
It was a little noisy at 10pm but probably due to it being a Marathon weekend.
- 4/5
Hotel has good location and room was comfortable , clean and very quiet
- 5/5
This property was in the best location to everything we wanted to do. Plus all of the Asian food options were great!
- 5/5
Perfect central location to enjoy SF. Near Fillmore Street, which is great for restaurants and shopping. Easy public transporation out to museums. Easy walk to Presidio.
- 5/5
The staff were truly the highlight of my stay – warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. A special shoutout to Nick, who went above and beyond to ensure I had the perfect parking spot. His kindness and attention to detail made a lasting impression. Thank you for making my stay so enjoyable!
- 5/5
Loved the property. My only complaint was that the property should let you know parking is not guaranteed. We drove to SF and there was no available parking when we got there. Luckily we found street parking a few blocks away and didn’t have to worry about permits given a weekend but during the week it could be really tough.
- 5/5
Great hotel in SF. In good condition, felt pretty chique. Very walkable to Japantown, lively part of town. Parking garage although we found street parking on the weekend for free.
- 5/5
Excellent hotel
- 5/5
Great place in cool neighborhood!
- 5/5
Just did!
- 5/5
Wonderful staff at front desk. Very easy to get to places to eat and right across from Japan town.
- 5/5
Amazing staff at the front desk. Friendly, explained everything and also gave us an upgrade! Hotel room was very clean and comfortable. Loved the magnified makeup mirror in the bathroom!
- 5/5
Great location, very quiet and comfortable, good service, and complementary coffee service in the morning - all we had hoped for!
- 5/5
Very nice property
- 3/5
Overpriced. Only one chair in the room. Not Kimpton quality.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel in a great location and parking was included, which is really good to have in SF.
- 5/5
Great service. Everyone from general manager, front desk and housekeeping were friendly and very helpful. Above and beyond service.
- 5/5
A great location that is safe and central to many areas of SF. Loved being in the heart of Japantown. Rooms were a good size and amenities were great, however the pillows were not very comfortable. One of the hotels with more affordable parking. The garage is small but we had no issues getting a spot each night. Really enjoyed the complimentary coffee & tea in the morning and wine in the afternoon. Would definitely stay at this hotel again the next time I am in SF.
- 5/5
We always have a good time staying at this hotel. ESP during cherry blossoms festivals there are so many events going on near the hotel. It is very convenient. Abe the hotel staff are awesome!!
- 5/5
Great little hotel
- 5/5
We always enjoy our stay when we stay in SF
- 5/5
Everything was great
- 3/5
Nice enough, recently renovated but obviously a former hotel. Staff was not especially helpful nor friendly, seemed to resent that our booking was thorough Expedia.
- 3/5
The hotel was in a very convenient area of being able to walk to all the wonderful Japanese restaurants and stores nearby. However the room was very disappointing in terms of the size and layout. Another note to consider is their parking spots are very limited.
- 5/5
Really love the neighborhood. Will stay here again
- 5/5
Very close to Japan town
- 5/5
Location was terrific: safe, close to restaurants and shopping
- 5/5
This Kimpton has a great location in Japantown and two blocks from Filmore street which is full of shops and restaurants and activity.
- 5/5
Coffee etc available in AM free in the lobby. HVAC excellent. REASONABLE PRICE.
- 5/5
The Kimpton Hotel Enso is in a very safe neighbourhood. The staff are so friends and accommodating! We especially loved the complimentary wine at happy hour and coffee and tea in the morning!! We will definitely be back!
- 5/5
Nice hotel in prime location of San Francisco neighborhoods. Literally across the street from Japantown shops and restaurants. We walked to Haight and Asbury and Pacific Heights. Much better than staying downtown to see real San Francisco!
- 5/5
Hotel is well appointed, clean and beds are comfortable. Parking was easy. Staff was pleasant and hotel is in a nice neighborhood near Japantown with excellent food nearby. Would stay here again.
- 5/5
Great location, design, happy hour
- 5/5
Room was really nice and they offered hand lotion in a large pump and hand soap in a large pump. It’s the little things that help. They also brought up a microwave to use.
- 5/5
Check-in was super smooth. Clean room, comfy bed. Great location.
- 4/5
This hotel is mostly okay, but with a few minor tweaks would be great! I'm so glad they finally have a restaurant again. However, I am unsure how many business travelers need an 11-course tasting menu dinner every night. I can't believe that's all they offer! Yes, there are a lot of walkable restaurants in the neighborhood, which I did enjoy instead. When the weather is rainy, cold, and windy, the last thing I want to do is leave the hotel and would have liked to have an easy a la carte option at the hotel restaurant. Also, the rooms are not equipped with coffee/tea makers. I did ask and they brought me a tea kettle in the evening, which was very kind. Service was great and the bed was comfy. Easy parking, too.
- 5/5
We stayed a whole week for business. Everything was great! The cleaning staff was amazing.
- 4/5
I went with my daughter for business in Real Estate near by. The room was nice. Missing the door hanger for privacy and a robe in the room. There was a man talking very loudly in Spanish right outside our room for over an hour and I needed to call the front desk to ask for him to stop. That was not an acceptable situation. Worker should be aware of guests rooms and refrain from loudly talking in any language angrily interfering a paying guest stay. We even turned the TV on for 20 minutes to try and drown him out, but it was unsuccessful. We are regular guests that come for business in SF and that was the first time anything has even happened like this and it was discerning that the staff is not better educated on their location and conduct in the gorgeous hotel we pay over $400 a night to stay at.
- 4/5
Good location. Rooms are dark-need better lighting-and sparse
- 3/5
There was a huge vomit stain by the bed on the carpet. Very gross. We will not stay at this hotel again.
- 4/5
- Staff very friendly - Bed/linens seemed new, room very comfortable - Complimentary coffee in AM and happy hour in PM - Excellent location across street from Japantown shops and restaurants, and SFMuni bus line #2 stop Considerations: - breakfast in restaurant only, did not have opportunity to try it. - Restaurant is high end for dinner, I was going to look into it but it was closed on Mondays. - Picture in hotel description shows a small but functional gym space with treadmill and long rack of dumbbells. When I got there the "gym" looked like a former closet, only a few dumbbells and a few square feet of floor space. I would stay here again but plan to take a class at the nearby orange theory fitness.
- 5/5
We like the location of the hotel, many restaurants around, it is close to popular tourist attractions, and the area is safe. We also like their parking garage.
- 5/5
Wonderful stay at our favorite hotel in the area. The hotel staff provide exceptional service.
- 5/5
Loved the stay!
- 4/5
In J Town and near the Fillmore.
- 5/5
Great, quiet hotel central to many areas of the City. Really a surprise find for us.
- 5/5
Staff was extremely friendly and helpful
- 5/5
We have stayed at this location before but this hotel has changed hands and was completely remodeled. It was beautiful and the beds were extremely comfortable. Parking was a problem as the garage filled up quickly. However the attendant made sure to find room for us so that was appreciated. The only negative was the restaurant. It was too expensive and the choice for breakfast was limited. The offering was set and there was no chance to order a la carte. The only thing I could eat was the chicken and waffles, but I can't eat eggs or yogurt so I was disappointed and that was too much food for breakfast. Since we were in Japantown, I was hoping for a Japanese breakfast as an alternative. There was only one other person in the restaurant. In the past, there were real breakfast options! We stayed and ate there because we felt sorry for the waiter, but if we stay there again we will eat across the street, plus $25 is a bit steep for what we were served.
- 5/5
Very clean, spacious and comfortable room. Staff was very kind and helpful. Free evening wine and saki was a bonus! Also directly across the street from Japan town courtyard. Walkable to the Fillmore, which is our reason for booking. We will come back to the Kimpton Enso!
- 5/5
The hotel is completely lovely, safe and clean.
- 5/5
Very nice: comfortable, clean and low profile, conveniently located in Japantown.
- 5/5
We had a great stay here! Clean, quiet, safe, updated and big room for us (3 adults and 1 child). Conveniently located right next to Japantown Mall, had delicious dinners there (Osakaya and Seoul Garden). Walkable to a good breakfast places (Sweet Maple and Pistachio Cafe). Water filter and ice, right next to our room in the hall. Coffee and hot chocolate included, every morning. Sadly we missed the wine happy hour since we were out and about from 5-6 pm but I love that they had that available! We found cheaper overnight parking at Hotel Kabuki, just a short walk away. Would definitely stay here again!
- 5/5
Great location, clean and Nice Rom. Friendly staff.
- 4/5
I didn’t like that the hotel didn’t have tea and coffee facilities in the room and room service if needed to order food.
- 5/5
The service was great very clean and a good size room
- 4/5
We liked the location, The bathroom door had a one inch gap between the door and wall it was attached to, minimizing any privacy when using the bathroom. There were no cups in the bathroom for toothbrushes. The most annoying thing was that whenever the people next door slammed their door the whole room we were in shook
- 5/5
very close to shopping centers and very clean.
- 5/5
This place is so convenient and so cordial. Loved it would definitely stay there again.
- 4/5
The craftsmanship in the bathroom wasn’t great. It was very hard to maneuver the door, the door had a gap where you could see someone on the toilet, the shower door didn’t seal and got water all over the floor. These weren’t a big deal but just signs that some of the work was shoddy. We didn’t make use of a lot of the amenities but they seemed nice. I would recommend the hotel for sure.
- 5/5
Front desk is very helpful and nice. Room was clean and comfortable.
- 3/5
Shower leaked Repairman did not fix it!!
- 5/5
Convenient to area
- 1/5
The room was overbooked and the front desk didn’t help. There is no additional clean folding bed and there is no room service at all when arrived. The room I paid additional fee is the city view two people bedroom and I ended up with my friend in a one bed room in the basement floor.
- 5/5
Room was clean and didn't feel cramped. Love the food options within walking distance.

Every detail was 👍. Close to The Fillmore, our night-time destination, made it safe and easy returning to your hotel. Thank you!

Very, very comfortable beds and nice afternoon wine in the lobby.

Convenient, very walkable with shops and restaurants close by.

It would have been nice to know that parking was limited on a first come first serve basis. Otherwise I would have not booked at this hotel. Alternative parking is 5 to 6 minutes away walking. I was told it was 'safe' only to find to be accosted by a person dealing drugs at the parking structure. Yikes.

This is my second time staying at this property, and I love it! Always clean, the staff are friendly, and I love the coffee set up in the morning. Also make sure to ask for a plant friend when you check in! Such a cute program.

I just loved everything about this quaint hotel. There are so many thoughtful details like the filtered water fountains in the hallways and beautiful artwork in almost every space. Best of all it’s walking distance to everything one might need yet quiet and relaxing.

I understand we were only for 1 night and late checking in, but having the room directly over the roller door to the parking garage below and adjacent to the dumpsters didnt feel the most VIP stay, but the staff were great, friendly and professional.

Good hotel in a very nice area. Large room and bathroom and free wine every day between 5-6pm

Hotel is dated. Room is not attractive and bathrooms are dark. Nothing I expected based on price or reviews. I couldn’t wait to leave and checked into the 1 hotel the following day.
