The Beach Motel offers a convenient location near the beach and public transportation, with clean and comfortable rooms at an affordable price. However, guests frequently complain about noise from the bar downstairs, street cars, and other guests, as well as outdated facilities and unfriendly staff.

First off the place has limited parking. First come first serve. Don’t park in the corner spot or you will get blocked in and can’t get out. Three stories and not Handicap friendly. Rooms are large and come with a tv, internet, coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave. Room was clean but could use some attention to detail. Meaning clean baseboards and food on wall. My coffee maker did not work and staff quickly addressed the issue. Loud noise from tram going by day and night. While at night it was loud also from patrons at the bar on the corner. Beautiful ocean view from windows. I would definitely stay again and recommend to friends and family. Very affordable with friendly staff.

The motel is well located near ocean beach and the muni stops right outside. However the noise from the muni is very intrusive and it runs late and starts early. The accommodation itself is very dated. The room was large and clean but sparsely furnished. The hook on the bathroom door was broken. The outside windows could also have done with a good cleaning. You can also hear noise from other rooms, showers, toilets flushing and people arguing !

Friendly staff, helpful, understanding, parking is nice and hidden in the back, very close and walking distance to ocean, room(s) was clean and and didn’t smell, wish they had a better fan system as they only have a small portable fan on the desk, aside from that, it’s very nice.

There was nothing I liked about the property. Too bad in the initial listing they didn’t let you know about the loud bar underneath the rooms! Screaming and yelling and loud music until the wee hours of the morning! The last night someone stayed in the room next to me who was apparently mentally ill and started screaming on his phone at 5 o’clock in the morning! And then harassed me until I finally got out of my room about nine! There was nothing I liked about the property. It was dingy and old and ill kept.

We really liked the staff, the room, the parking, and the location - it was awesome being so close to the beach and right on the N Judah Streetcar line, which makes it so easy to go anywhere in SF. (we only had a rental car one day of our stay). We would have liked to have a bedside lamp, that was the only amenity the room. lacked. Loved having 4 plugs for my two laptops and my sisters and my phones. It was clean and comfortable and that staff were very helpful.

This little motel is located in a quiet area very close to the beach. There were also few cute shops and eateries within walking distance. The staff were friendly and able to get us our rooms early after east coast flight arrivals. The rooms were spacious and I really appreciated the skylight in the bathroom on the top floor and peek of the sea from my room. The large windows were perfect although light sleepers might find it challenging with the sound of the trolley on the street below. All in all it was a lovely stay at what felt like a cute family hotel by the sea.

Located just a couple of blocks from the beautiful beach with an Irish pub Nextdoor. 3 stories and no elevator. WHO IS GIVING THIS PLACE NEGATIVE REVIEWS?!?!?!? (1) The place is HUGE. You could do a friggen zumba workout here. (2) It's like 70% cheaper than any other place in the area. Take this + point #1 and this place just does not make any economic sense. It shouldn't exist. Oh boo hoo there's no maid to change your towels, it's a friggen motel you pampered millenial. (3) The place is next to several bars that were rockin' on a Wednesday night. Came with family+kid, but man if I was single this place woulda been a 20/10 if ya know what I'm sayin lmao. For those with kids, mini groceries open until 9/10pm, so also amazing. (4) It's a 5 minute walk from the beach. Yah they should be charging like $400/night here lol. (5) No bed bugs or weird smells! #FakeNews (1) The walls are thin, but I knew that reading the other reviews so I brought a white noise machine. (2) Yah there's a train that runs until midnight and starts again at 7am, but treat it like a white noise machine. (3) The other people staying here can be sketchy based on the cars parked in the parking lot. But no one broke into our Tesla so whatever.

This is definitely not an ideal hotel for families but it works as a dive motel and somewhere to lay your head down at the end of the night.

This was our 5th stay here - a true hidden gem... simple rooms, but spotless. The front desk gent (manager? owner?) is a total class act - very much cares for his guests, looks after them - a true delight. There are large and small rooms - the small ones overlook the parking area to the rear, and are quieter; the larger ones overlook Judah St and the street cars/MUNI - we personally love its sounds: shades of Manhattan. We've stayed at a couple other nearby places - but the Ocean Inn is by far far our go to place. How about a 12 on a scale of 10? :-) x100

Clean room! Hot water! Comfy bed & feather pillows! I don’t care about an outdated pink bathtub, it was huge. I would stay again. One thing is the cali tram is right out the window yet I still slept hard.
- 4/5
Great location! Loved being walking distance to the ocean! I will come back for sure!
- 1.5/5
the property was clean and the parking was nice. the property is connected to a bar that doesn’t close until 2 in the morning, and it was extremely loud. Couldn’t get any rest until after 230 am. On top of that there is a trolly in front of the hotel that is also very loud. Only way I would recommend this place is if your planning to go out bar hopping and plan to stay out late into the early morning
- 4/5
Spotless is a stretch but it was clean enough. I checked in very late (2AM) so had to pound on the window and ring the bell for 15 minutes before the agent appeared but I understand it was late and he was sleeping. Otherwise it was fine and well-situated near the beach. Price was fair.
- 5/5
The room was very clean. But parking was not good for people that stayed there
- 0.5/5
I told them that I would be arriving at 10:30 pm . They told me that my late arrival wouldn't be a problem. However, when I arrived at 10:30 and rang the buzzer many times at the night window, no one ever appeared and I had to find another place to stay at the last minute. It very inconvenient and they were very unprofessional.

Conveniently located near beach. Room was located directly above a Pub/Bar/Nightclub and was extremely loud all hours of the evening and early mornings. The tram that runs 24 hours was also located directly in front of the window. The Bathroom toilet was not properly sanitized and had urine and hair at bottom of toilet. There was mouse droppings on floor in bathroom. There was no hot water Saturday morning to take a shower. The ice machine did not work entire time. The wife cut out so much watching a movie was nearly impossible. There is 30 rooms but only 9 parking spaces so we had to park illegally one evening. Very very disappointed.

The location was convenient to Ocean Beach and Golden Gate Park. The bed was comfortable with adequate pillows. The cleanliness could have been a little better. I had some dead bugs in the bathroom and shower. Pubic hair on the bathroom wall by the counter. It was nice that they had adequate lighting outside so that when I came in after dark I could see but the bright light shined in my room ALL night long.

Nice Clean room with WiFi and parking. Staff was friendly. The room was cold. No heating system only a plugin fan/heater that didn’t work that well.
- 4/5
For a low cost hotel, very clean, rooms have been redone and very nice for cost. Parking is limited. The one issue we had was the bar in nextdoor. Band started playing after 10 and got extremely loud until very late.
- 3/5
Not the place to stay if you need a good night’s sleep due to bar noise. The room itself was fine.
- 5/5
It gets 5 stars not because its a 5-star motel (motel not hotel) it gets 5-stars because location wise and time of year it was a great value and reasonable overall price for an outer sunset place to stay during new years. Walking to java beach every morning brings me back
- 3/5
The location was convenient. Two blocks from the beach and right on the muni line. The band in the bar downstairs was quite loud some nights. The vents on the heater needed cleaning desperately
- 2/5
Cons: extremely noisy, the bed creaked, the floor creaked, you can hear your neighbors inside their room and anybody walking/talking by your room. Horrible sleep or lack of.
- 1/5
Below the hotel there's a pub, and people are talking outside until 2 AM, making a lot of noise. In front of the hotel there's a subway line, which also makes a lot of noise until midnight.

I like that it has a free parking. Room is clean & spacious. Bathroom is ok.
- 4/5
The reason you’re there is for the price. It’s a bit of a dive. The room is clean. The TV is a bit complicated but you can login with your own Netflix account. There is no Wi-Fi. Phone signal is weak near the beach. There is no view of the ocean. You get a view of the parking lot good shower pressure with good hot water.
- 5/5
rooms are spotless, the front staff the nicest i've ever dealt with in my life. parking is first come first serve but the front staff will make sure you have parking. it is noisy but not a problem for me 12/10 will continue to stay here everytime i need too!
- 4/5
Room was clean. The frontdesk staff is nice.
- 5/5
Everything has been surprisingly impressive. Check in was simple. I had prepaid for my stay prior to arrival, which didn't include any deposit, but I had the funds for that available, so the desk guy got that easily taken care of. For the price, compared to other lodging in S.F.,- awesome deal. I'll most likely stay again sometime, and will make the recommendation to friends if and when the opportunity arises. Thanks again.
- 5/5
big room, very fast check in, free parking, clean. exceeded expectations. was a bit loud- poor sound insolation in our room - it was in a corner, with a fire exit inside.
- 5/5
the front office staff is amazing! the room is spotless and cozy. 120/10 will always stay here during my travels
- 4/5
Nice man very clean huge room.
- 2/5
I inadvertently booked this inn for a second stay. Pros: large room, close to beach, parking, comfy bed, fridge in room. Cons: you really cant sleep here due to the excessive noise. Bar on bottom floor has rock music until 1 am, street trolly turnaround is excessively noisy, and loud bar patrons congregate under the windows late at night. I used earplugs, a white noise app, and wrapped pillows around my head, but that didn’t help. They really need new soundproof windows and some other insulation. I would also be nice if they added another table or a dresser and coat/towel hooks. Hangers would be nice too. Two beds, but only one luggage rack. We resorted to stacking /hanging things from the ironing board!
- 2/5
The room was neglected. There was noise from some machine all through the night.
- 3/5
It did the job, but the room felt very old. Leaky fixtures in the bathroom. Awkward furniture. No lamps, just harsh overhead lights. Significant noise from the muni and nearby bar.
- 2/5
The building is old, but the room was updated, with the exception of the old pink bathtub and wall tiles. It was a very spacious room, with a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker… the cheap tea bag type. Though it said non-smoking the sheets smelled “not fresh”. The windows did not lock, there were no screens, and they were a few inches from the floor (third floor, so NOT for children). One window glass was falling off and it had been duct taped, though that had come off… and it was impossible to close. Because of this there was a constant smell of weed smoke floating in all night from people smoking outside. There is no central heat, and because the windows did not close all the way, I was cold all night. The covers are flimsy at best. They provide a tiny heater for a huge room (see photo). The Tram line ran all night right outside the windows and it is VERY NOISY. Needless to say, very little sleep was possible. The host was nice about it, and I was able to get a refund for the second night.

AC is not working
- 4/5
Loved the area for concerts at GG park with the family. It was definitely not quiet, but we expected that and planned accordingly. Super kind folks at the bar below. Staff at the hotel was pleasant and did their job without intrusion on guests - they noticed our coffee choices and made sure to replace the kind we used only. You need to ask for amenities like coffee sugar packets/creamer, etc, but they have them.
- 3/5
Otherwise it's a decent cut rate motel - room bare but spacious, service and internet/cable OK, free parking in back it you get there early, and close to beach.
- 5/5
I really enjoyed the vibe here
- 3/5
Had to park in the street
- 5/5
The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the parking was secure. Those were my main conditions. Also, good food within walking distance.

Stayed for 3 nights to attend nearby Outside Lands festival. Room was dated but clean. Unfortunately, we never received cleaning service or fresh bath towels during our entire stay. Could not open windows for fresh air so had to leave front door open for air. The positive? Our 18 years old son said we were just being bougey and that he will try to stay here for the 2026 festival because of its convenient proximity to the event

The room was directly above a bar. It was loud until midnight. My second night the party seemed to move to the room above me and it was loud until 2 am. The smoke alarm in the room started to beep at 5am from the low battery. The room was not very clean. The soap and shampoo dispenser did not work It was not a good choice of a hotel.
- 5/5
You can be loud! Ocean veiw
- 4/5
The two cons were that parking was limited and the evenings were loud with the metro right nearby, but in my mind that goes with the territory given the older construction and the excellent location.
- 4/5
Parking is very limited.
- 2/5
Really noisy, no AC, a lot of weed smell, hard to parking.
- 3/5
No Ocean view. False advertising.
- 5/5
Room clean and nice. Fridge started leaking in middle of night
- 4/5
Could use a side table other then just the writing desk.
- 2/5
Although room and property were clean, there were glaring problems. My room was the only one with a physical key that opened my door. The knob was installed backward. This was the only lock on the door (as a solo woman I was uncomfortable). I thought there had to be secondary locks. There was no evacuation information either. The room was barren, no real place to sit but the bed in such a big room. The desk is not a desk, it is a side table too high for utilizing as a desk (I had to work hovered over the bed). Only mirror was a small one above the sink, too high to see myself. Although the hotel advertised parking it was VERY limited. There was NO place for me to park when I returned after dinner. After realizing the closest parking space was blocks away, I pointed out their listing stated parking was included and the clerk moved his car from the handicapped spot and moved it into a garage near the property (I believe this was the owner, but then why are you taking up spots advertised to patrons?). Groups of men were congregating and drinking in the parking area further making it difficult to park. The clerk said they were always there.

It was just what I was looking for. Right near the beach.
- 4/5
At night it can be noisy because of bar downstairs. Everything was fine here. I love the location
- 5/5
the bar does get a little rowdy but like i say in my other reviews some white noise and you'll be fine
- 3/5
I like that it was close to UCSF, but it is a noisy area. Free parking is a plus, but it is first come basis. There is available parking on street as well. Walking distance to beach was nice, but it was super windy and cold when we were there. The Tran runs all day and night which is pretty noisy and there is a bar downstairs that can get noisy as well. Luckily we were there during the week. Overall it is not a bad area.
- 5/5
i had seen another review about the noise and yeah this time i heard it alot more the little bar under the hotel gets cracking lol but still not a problem played some white noise on the tv and slept pretty great. room is super clean, parking this time was a bit of a issue but the front desk took care of it. 10/10 will continue to stay here.
- 3/5
Good basic room but no soap, had to undo the shower gel holder and use that. No creamer for the coffee pot either.
- 3/5
For the price, it is not bad at all. The room was massive and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was fine. Hot water and good water pressure. Lots of free parking for guests. Only downside was the cable car was very loud and ran all day and night, so if you’re sensitive to sound probably not the place for you. Also the room we stayed in, the window had no screen so it do is just open and be a safety hazard.
- 4/5
Good place to stay. Right by the train to downtown and the stadium.
- 5/5
This was a delightful find for me as one who loves to explore the city, mostly needs just a place to sleep and seeks modest room rates. The place has a work-in-progress feel, especially from the outside, but offers so much. In specific the room was clean and spacious and everything worked. The folks there had a very helpful website that acquaints you with dining and other neighborhood offerings, of which there are many. I wanted to explore GG Park and the beach and they were right there. In addition the muni train is right in front and will take you right down to the Embarcadero for a couple dollars. The one bit I highly advise is bringing a sleep noise machine because the trolley bells are right in front and there's a pub nearby.
- 4/5
Super nice office staff, a comfortable bed, the right amount of quirky/funky to be cool and proximity to transit, the beach, Golden Gate Park, onsite parking that was free - we liked this place! There is a pub below the room we stayed in so we could hear patrons, but not so loud it kept us awake. Except for that, the neighborhood was really quiet at night. You can feel the street cars rumble by but they stop running early. The worst thing was the bright white room lights. Warmer temp lights would really make a difference to me. Good cafes and markets nearby. Stayed two days and enjoyed it.
- 4/5
This property is conveniently located within walking distance of Ocean Beach, Golden Gate Park and other Outer Sunset attractions. The room was clean and recently painted and spacious, but there was no furniture other than a bed and small desk with chair. More seating options would be good and a lamp. There is a way to reduce the overbearing ceiling lights. No heat except a portable plug in heater (you may not need more; I read a review and brought an electric blanket to be sure). Great, well lit parking in lot. There is a lot of street noise from the train and the bar on the corner until about 1 am. However, the access to the train is great to get downtown and come back late. All worked out for us regardless.
- 5/5
i loved the property the sheets were slightly questionable but
- 1/5
Appallingly bad. I arrived with 2 of my work colleagues, one of whom has mobility issues. No elevator, and our rooms were on the third floor. I asked if there was a room on a lower floor and was told no. We went to dinner and returned to find the bed in my room was covered in ants. Gross. I went back downstairs to the front desk and asked to be moved and they moved me to another room... on the second floor. The building rattled whenever the muni passed, and around 2:15 in the morning, a couple in an adjacent room started arguing loudly, which continued until 4:45 in the morning. The walls were thin and it was impossible to sleep. The front desk was unwilling to ask them to keep it down. All 3 of our rooms were freezing with iffy heaters (the one in my second room was visibly broken), and one of my colleagues reported that the TV came on randomly 3 times in the night, waking him up. Aside from being in a good location, there is nothing positive to report about our stay. Would not recommend.
- 3/5
Cons: Biggest problem was the noise level. Older building with single paned windows located next to trolly line and above pub. Lots of traffic noise (and talkative drunks on F & Sa). Needed more furniture in huge room (sitting chairs or table would be nice, wall mirror so we don’t fight over tiny mirror in bathroom, luggage racks, and hangars are all needed). No central heat or cooling (though was not a problem for us). Pillows were unusually overstuffed. Bring: earplugs, eye mask, & your own pillow.
- 5/5
can't complain, it is a little noisy but white noise will fix that. everything was clean inside the room slept really comfortably.
- 5/5
Nice Staff
- 4/5
The staff are very nice and kind
- 3/5
Cons: quite noisy all day long - trolley car, vehicle traffic, and talkative bar patrons make it hard to sleep. No heat or air conditioning (not needed on this trip fortunately). The room needs a seating area, more chairs, a mirror, luggage racks, and hangars for closet. (insulated windows for noise and temperature control would also be nice)
- 4/5
When we arrived there was plenty of parking. We had to wait a few minutes for someone to arrive at the front desk but then check in was quick and easy. The room was nothing special but plenty comfortable. The price was reasonable so I would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
This Property improves every time I stay here, Ample free parking, great neighbourhood with many really good restaurants close by. Great for anyone who does not want to spend a lot of time in their room,
- 4/5
Convenient location to beach, restaurants, bars & public transit. About a perfect as a beach motel can be, just make sure your expectations are right!

Big window's clean ,

I never stayed here. I booked a night and was called by the front office telling me my room was directly above a bar. Since I have a young baby, that was unacceptable and was told they’d cancel my room. It was never cancelled and I was charged anyway! DONT TRUST THIS PLACE!
- 4/5
Staff, service, and location are great. NOTE: Rooms do not have heating or air conditioning.
- 4/5
The room was ok. Although flooring was wonky and the toilet was dirty as soon as we go there (which was disgusting) the walk to eateries was nice and coffee shop near by is a must. Overall location needs to stop making surface work and fix the parts that make it not so great.
- 4/5
Great area near the beach and Golden Gate Park. The front desk was very friendly and came to our room to help explain how to use the TV with two remotes. The bed was comfortable. The hotel is old. The bathroom was dirty. Had a very strong smell of cleaning products that was very unpleasant and never went away. Would not want to stay more than one night.
- 4/5
Well lite off street parking. Small room, comfortable bed, nice bathroom. Great location for visiting Golden Gate Park and the ocean. Public transportation within one block, many restaurants to pick from within walkable distance and coffee shop one the corner.
- 5/5
Great stay!
- 2/5
This property has no heaters in the room and it was definitely needed. Also the hot water in the shower isn't hot enough for a shower
- 5/5
The vibe was very welcoming, comfy and cozy. It was perfect for my family a safe clean space to lay our heads for a night.
- 5/5
There are several bad reviews of this property but I just rented a room there and the staff was friendly, room was clean, and the place was decent. It’s also one block away from the ocean. It’s not luxurious but it definitely deserves a try.
- 5/5
Two nights in Rm 14. Clean, felt safe, free parking, free Wi-Fi. Mattress comfortable. Linens seemed newish. Street with N-Judah so you’ll def hear it 6am-midnight, but not big deal to me. Walking distance to convenience store, restaurants. 1 block from Ocean Beach, 2-3 block from GGP. This is my go-to SF hotel.
- 3/5
I really like this neighborhood so staying at this motel isn’t the worst. It’s a very old building with no heater. The bathtub needs a good deep cleaning and same with the tile floors. It’s right next to muni so you hear the train pretty late/early. I stayed here because I needed to stay somewhere asap but for a vacation I would pass. Also when I get back from work around midnight, my key card stopped working. I went to the “night” window where he thought he fixed it but it still wouldn’t work. Turns out the lock was messed up. I was staying alone so that made me a little uneasy. I managed to sleep well and just checked out super early. Folks that work there are nice but some of the patrons can be a little sketchy. Again, great neighborhood!
- 5/5
A big room with a view of the Pacific, One thing: the shower barely got warm enough to feel comfortable. I like a bit more margin. Funny, but the sink water was fine. But I've stayed here before and would again. Small groceries and a 7/11 close.
- 3/5
VERY NOISY as it was above a bar and trolley/bus line
- 5/5
Excellent
- 3/5
Close to the beach!
- 1/5
Outlets did not work in the room.
- 4/5
The rooms are very spacious, and the bed is super comfy, bathrooms are not really renovated but they were clean, one thing I loved was the out door balcony and that the windows open all the way. A small con is that there isn’t really AC a big con was that there was really loud construction going on at about 8 am.
- 4/5
Cool quirky motel in a great location near the beach but it was rundown in some ways. The bathroom really needed a remodel.
