Reviews
The Palace Hotel is a beautiful, historic property with outstanding service and a central location. Guests appreciate the cleanliness, comfort, and quietness of the rooms. However, some guests express disappointment with the size of the rooms, the lack of certain amenities, and the high cost of parking and breakfast.

I love this hotel and our suite was amazing for the 4 of us.

Beautiful, historical, clean, beautiful, bathroom, pool, and food Location outside is a bit different but it was worth it

The Garden Dining area was stunning. The breakfast buffet and service were outstanding. The hotel is impeccable and well appointed.

Great staff! Clean space.

Everything was great except for checking in. The room was ready about an hour after our check-in time.

The following morning, I went downstairs to grab a coffee and the employee working at the stand was incredibly rude. She definitely needs additional customer service training, as her attitude was completely unprofessional. To make matters worse, during checkout the valet brought my vehicle and parked it in the middle of a busy street. I had to quickly load my two toddlers into the car while traffic was passing by. I told the valet attendant this was extremely unsafe and unacceptable. Overall, this was a terrible experience. Between the poor customer service, lack of professionalism, and unsafe valet practices, I will not be returning.

That said, some areas of the hotel feel dated. The hallways in particular look old and have a harsh white lighting that feels more like a hospital than a luxury property. The rooms have high ceilings and a good size, which is a plus, but the bathrooms are relatively small. The white lighting in the rooms also creates a very cold ambiance, which takes away from the overall comfort. In general, much of the furniture throughout the hotel could benefit from a renovation. Overall, it’s a beautiful historic property in a great location. With some thoughtful modernization that respects and blends with the hotel’s classic character, it could truly be exceptional.

Very beautiful hotel in very nice location, close to everything.

The person at the registration was nice and cordial. I liked the shower and the amenities offered. For such a pricey room, one would expect high quality insulation. We could hear the people next door as if they were in our room. No privacy. Their kids were very loud.

Friendly staff, the doormen were very helpful!

Staff was overall excellent - except the guy at the check in desk who seemed a little grumpy. The hotel is very accommodating to pets. Location is more business district but the history and beauty of the Palace should not be missed. Get the crispy Brussels sprouts from the in-room dining menu - you will thank me.

Nice looking hotel, convenient location I would NOT recommend to purchase their breakfast package. They provide service in their small bar room (maybe not enough guests for Monday?) and we have to wait to be seated, wait to be serviced. The staff was not trained properly for a 5 star hotel. They gave us conflict information. Even though they did not have buffet breakfast, they told us that we purchased for buffet style, and some items like cappuccino would be additional charges. Fine, we paid for almost $100 for two breakfast, but have to pay additional for a cappuccino, after 30 minutes waiting to be seated. Which is more annoying one lady staff keep reminding us about the extra charge of cappuccino. Later on, our main waitress told us whatever we ordered is all included and she did provide a nice service. We enjoyed the bar lite bites and drinks the day before, but next morning breakfast experience was a disaster.

This hotel does not give you a luxury 5 star feel. When asked why our door dash order could not be brought up by room service, front desk staff claimed hotel does not provide this as it is a 4 star. This is wrongly listed as 5 star. Breakfast was overly priced for cold buffet
- 4/5
I love this hotel and will continue to stay here. I don’t give 5 stars in all areas because the jacuzzi is kept at a temp that feels lukewarm. It’s also a tiny jacuzzi with rough texture that snags bathing suits and scratches skin. It doesn’t match the opulence of the hotel. I had to call 4 times to ask for a toothbrush to be sent to my room. It took a couple hours for it to arrive. Other than those minor issues- food and staff were great. The room was in need of fresh paint on walls or maybe a Mr Clean sponge to get all the black scuffs off. These are minor issues. I’m satisfied overall.
- 2/5
I was extremely disappointed with our stay here. Two nights 3/26-3/28, with me and my two kids. There is absolutely no information given at check-in. The room was not ready upon arrival which was fine but when I asked where we could get something to eat I was told “there’s a bunch of stuff on Market street.” That was pretty much the vibe the entire stay. You want to know where the pool or fitness center is? Check the website. What the hours are? Check the website. What room are you staying in? They will write it on the key envelope. Restaurant hours are limited. Don’t assume you can walk in, you need a reservation. The one thing a staff member made sure to tell me was the cost of breakfast was not included in the room stay. I’m surprised I didn’t have to valet my own car. For $700 per night I would recommend the Ritz or Four Seasons. They provide excellent customer service and don’t make you feel like an inconvenience for staying there.

Great location, nice pool The noisiest hotel room I have ever stayed in. Avoid the 4th floor at all costs - everyone traipsing past at all hours heading to the pool. Didn’t feel like a 5* place except the grand entrance hall downstairs, rooms very lacklustre & uninspiring.
- 5/5
It’s just a wow hotel! From the moment you arrive, to the moment you leave, its exceptional. Having to leave.

Wonderful stay! We loved it!

the room was small but comfortable for one adult and one child. the location was easily accessible by bart, uber, waymo, walking. breakfast (room service) was very good, but just one error was made on our order (daughter ordered chocolate chip pancakes and was served regular/plain). the hot tub was out of order on day one, and the indoor pool could have been a few degrees warmer for february and because hot tub/jacuzzi was out of service.

For $750 for one night and $84 for parking, this experience was shockingly unacceptable. The room was small, noisy throughout the entire night, and far below expectations. The shower design was unnecessarily complicated with extremely weak water pressure. The hairdryer was tiny and underpowered. Nothing about the room justified the price. The breakfast experience was even worse. Breakfast was prepaid through Expedia. I was initially told the wait would be 30–40 minutes. It turned into more than one hour. During that time, multiple guests were allowed to cut in front of me with no organization or control from the host stand. After waiting over an hour, my blood sugar was dropping. I approached the manager — who was also acting as the host — and asked when it would be my turn. Instead of addressing the situation, she said, “Give me one second,” and walked away. She continued walking around and completely ignored me. This was not just poor service — it showed a complete lack of professionalism, empathy, and basic human courtesy. When a guest tells you their blood sugar is low after waiting over an hour, you do not dismiss them and walk away. Thankfully, another guest overheard me and generously shared their table so I could eat. A stranger showed more humanity than the restaurant manager. The short lady with a ponytail managing the breakfast service appeared disorganized, disengaged, and in

I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. The bed was so comfy. The Buffet breakfast is the best option. The pool area wasn’t tidy. Nobody cleaned up the towels and other stuff the guests left behind. The Christmas ambiance was a plus. Bucketlist checked.

Property and our stay were great. Everything was wonderful - Only issue was upon leaving one of the valet guys decided to flip off myself and two young granddaughters as we pulled out.

Only hiccup was it was very noisy the first night with a huge local group staying. Had to move rooms 3 times. The front desk was apologetic and gave us a $50 credit and I appreciated that gesture. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
- 4/5
Wild weekend at the Palace…even the 4th floor

Hotel was beautiful and rooms were very clean and with a great view.

The hotel was hosting a convention that weekend. They appeared understaffed and the otherwise exceptional hospitality I know the hotel for was sorely missed. Won’t be booking with them again under such circumstances if it can be helped.

Problems cancelling the first night that I’d booked even though it was within the cancellation period. Led a merry dance by both hotel.com & the Palace Hotel. Also nearly didn’t get checked in because I’d only got Apple Pay, which apparently Marriot do not accept. Had to pay with a business card in the end as it was the only physical card we had with us. No information given before hand about having to have a physical card. The other 3 hotels we stayed in US all accepted payment/deposit with Apple Pay. We got the impression that the hotel is trying to save money eg cheap toilet paper, almost threadbare towels/robes, woodwork needing revarnishing, swimming pool water cool. Room on 4th floor very noisy from outside traffic as window only single pane glass. I will say though, that the staff were all exceptional - friendly, polite, helpful, they couldn’t do enough for you. They were the highlight of staying there.
- 5/5
Amazing sheets, service and food
- 5/5
Beautiful, grand hotel with a rich history. The staff is friendly and helpful, The hotel is located in a central area near shopping and Union Square. Walking/biking distance to nearby attractions. Wonderful Sunday brunch!
- 5/5

What made matters worse was that I had an injured leg, and instead of the valet staff handling the issue professionally, I was forced to walk to the car twice to resolve the situation myself. This not only caused me pain but also disrupted my schedule. For a hotel of this caliber, this level of service is unacceptable.

Great hotel!!!
- 5/5
Everything is great, except that they charge $15 per day for WiFi.
- 4/5
Be mindful of the area at night, and if taking long walks be very mindful of where your route back to the hotel is going through.
- 5/5
We had an amazing stay for my husband’s birthday. The staff were great and friendly the entire time, going above and beyond. They brought a surprise to our room for his birthday, even bringing the kids something. This was our second time and brought our family. This is the only place for us to stay when visiting.
- 5/5
Great hotel, beautiful property, location worked out perfectly.

Stunning and historic icon of San Francisco - my partner and I really enjoyed our stay this weekend and had the best sleep ever. Just so comfortable and luxe all around. I will say I did organize to have a special amenity surprise awaiting our arrival as we were celebrating an anniversary but I was disappointed that it was forgotten. I was really looking forward to that

Pretty place and friendly staff. Rooms older, dark, shower was super loud and shaky, elevators were limited and too many people it takes way too long to operate. No ice machine on every floor like other hotels.
- 5/5
Valet parking made us miss our flight. Otherwise its a nice property, front desk was courteous and attentive to our needs.
- 4/5
Hotel was good. Speaking about the staff - it depends who you meet. We‘ve met the most lovely people there and some where we had the feeling that we‘re disturbing. That‘s what gives you a negative feeling. Other than that - all good.
- 5/5
Liked the lap pool.
- 5/5
Rooms are small but comfortable
- 5/5
Always a wonderful stay
- 5/5
San Francisco is my home. I come back 2 times a year to visit my family. This was my 6th stay at the hotel. I just realized I forgot to thank Janet, my check in concierge! Janet has made me feel so welcome with our first interaction. She has always made sure every single visit met with my need! ( the kettle for hot water for my tea). She also gives me chocolate treats with I shared with my family later when I see them for dinner. I’m looking forward to my next visit! And hope I will get to see Janet when I shall check in. I thank you for your service! I’m one happy client.

Amazing facility

We had a wonderful time at the Palace Hotel for our spring break trip. I went for 4 nights with my tween daughter. The hotel is beautiful with a gorgeous atrium ceiling in the main dining area which is great for the buffet breakfast. There is a very nice restaurant/bar on site as well. The only issues we had during our stay was getting & keepning a tea pot to boil water for tea in our room and the jacuzzi was not properly cleaned, very foamy, and we got itchy after using. The front desk said she didn't know the cleaning schedule. In any case, the hotel is in a great location, walkable, the beds are comfy as well as the pillows, and the bathroom is nice and has modern toto cleaning toilets. I would recommend staying here!

This is a classical hotel turn of the 20th century, a marble location, beautiful location, friendly staff, incredible services, clean.
- 5/5
Very clean and nice great staff
- 4/5
The Toto Toilet Washlet in our room was fine but when the dryer function was used it smelled like baked feces. This really impacted our enjoyment of our stay as we had to close the bathroom door to keep out the baking odor. Room 655.
- 5/5
Impressed by the historic hotel with the beautiful garden court. Friendly and efficient staff; I especially enjoyed the warm welcome from Marlon at the door. Comfortable room and bedding; didn't feel cramped for a San Francisco hotel. Would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
The hotel was just exquisite. So beautiful! The staff was so wonderful and kind-from the concierge to the wait staff to housekeeping. The food in the restaurant and bar were delicious. Just a great experience, all the way around.
- 5/5
We had an awesome stay. The whole property's aesthetic was very grand, clean, and the staff were inviting as well. We plan on coming back. Thank you for the nice experience!
- 5/5
The staff was excellent! Very kind staff!
- 4/5
All of the people were extremely friendly and polite and I received great service. However, one of the primary reasons my wife and I chose the palace hotel was the beautiful pool and spa area with the vaulted glass ceilings. This area was closed for our entire stay, which was very disappointing and put a major damper on the experience. I don’t know if it was possible but would have been nice to know that would be true ahead of our stay
- 5/5
Its my first time to visit sfo and staying @ the Palace for New Years made the experience absolutely magical. Felt like “royal”. The staff were amazing and super friendly esp Jelly. The Garden Court for was my favourite spot in the hotel.
- 4/5
Homeless are getting too aggressive in the area
- 5/5
Alfrefo was super great
- 5/5
This was our most magical hotel stay in our 10 years of marriage! The hotel set up our room for romance (celebrating 10th anniversary) and included little extras for our year old with extra needs. This stay honestly makes me want to plan more trips out to SF even though we only visit every so often just the be able to stay here again. Every staff we interacted with was so kind and thoughtful, I don’t have a single complaint to highlight across our 3 days there.
- 5/5
One of the most amazing hotel’s we’ve stayed at. Definitely would stay again next time we’re in town.
- 5/5
Excellent service
- 2/5
Hot tub broken AGAIN, I was told it was tested and it was too hot. Ridiculous! Our room was not perfectly clean. Noticed hairs on the sheets, bathroom had rust, water stains on desk, etc.
- 5/5
Great hotel at a good price. Very conveniently located. Vallet service wasn’t at par with hotel facility and required multiple reminders for car delivery. Other than that, breakfast was good, reminded me of generous Turkish breakfast in Istanbul.
- 1/5
My wife and I had asked for a crib for our 9-month-old at check-in. We asked the 2nd day for a crib… Long story short, we never got what we had asked for.
- 5/5
This hotel is amazing in all aspects. The rooms were very clean and we even got a room with a street view. The amenities were awesome too. The service from all the employees were second to none. I mean they all set the golden standard for making guests feel welcomed and respected and they go the extra mile for you. My favorite part is that they even have extra umbrellas for guests!!!
- 5/5
A historic and elegant hotel. Respectful staff. Food options limited during off season. East to access from BART train
