Reviews
The hotel received overwhelmingly positive reviews, with guests praising its beautiful design, cleanliness, and convenient location. The staff were consistently described as friendly and helpful. However, several guests expressed dissatisfaction with the parking situation, and a few mentioned issues with the shower controls and toiletries.
- Beautiful, modern design and decor
- Friendly, helpful staff
- Expensive and disorganized valet parking
- Shower controls plumbed incorrectly in some rooms

Everything was perfect and beautiful. Food quality and service was outstanding

I love their onsite restaurant. The food was nothing but excellent.
- 4/5
Decent place. Not best 4 star. Food mediocre for 4 star in my opinion. Didnt restock room over 4 day stay. Its all OK but not Stellar
- 5/5
The one bedroom suite with the balcony might be one of the best hotel rooms I’ve ever stayed in, especially for the price. The bed was a queen and would have rather had a king, however, it was a small sacrifice to make due to how amazing the room was overall. Can’t wait to stay here again!

Great location for exploring San Francisco. We used Lyft, bus, light rail, and walked to the Embarcadero, North Beach, Union Square, and Oracle Park. Very comfortable beds, quiet, great-smelling products, and a spotless bathroom. The staff was very attentive, and my daughter commented on the Forbes service. I assumed the property was newly renovated when it was completed in 2023.
- 5/5
my boyfriend and i really enjoyed staying here! the room was clean, mini bar options were great, so many great amenities. friendly staff! and great location

Recently refurbished hotel in the financial district and easy twenty min walk to fisherman wharf or ferry building.

We only stayed for a short time, but the staff made us feel super welcome as they were friendly, professional and obliging. The room was exactly as per the website and the view was incredible. I would highly recommend The Jay and will definitely stay again next time we are in San Francisco.

Great room but you will need to fix the window. It does not close properly and unfortunately there's a lot of street noise

Beautiful view and spacious room. Absolutely loved our stay here to celebrate our wedding anniversary!
- 3/5
I booked a room with breakfast for our engagement weekend and when I called to ask about the breakfast the staff told me that they do not see that on their end and to send them a screenshot of my reservation. Beautiful rooms and hotel but service was sub par.

- 5/5
Beautiful decorated rooms, loved the bathroom products, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
- 5/5
Safe area great views of bridge. Comfortable beds quiet. Love the third floor promenade that walks straight to ferry building. Beautiful hotel right across street from transamerica building.
- 5/5
The bath towels were definitely sub-par.
- 5/5
Not cheap but would stay there again. The outdoor 3rd floor terrace off the restaurant and bar is a slice of heaven in the middle of a beautiful part of the city-- just short walk to the ocean/Embarcadaro and Bay Bridge. I had an incredible view from my 15th floor room looking out over the Bay. Design is sophisticated and tasteful throughout. Only snag was there were elevator hang ups one evening and the waits were excessive. Only two elevators go to the upper floors so during high traffic times one had to plan for this in calculating travel times/Ubers etc. All in all-- a class operation. I spent half what I would have spent at the (now way too costly) St. Regis. Safe area of SF too. Right next door to the top comedy club, The Punchline, which I love. Saw a great show while there!

This hotel is not luxury. Equivalent to a $300/night in other locations. The check in was very casual, no slippers in the room, room service was terrible!
- 5/5
A special thank you to Rafael at the restaurant, who went above and beyond with his service and genuine care. His attention to detail and warm hospitality truly elevated our experience. We also greatly appreciated the staff’s understanding and kindness when we arrived slightly past checkout time—they were incredibly accommodating and handled it with grace. We highly recommend it.
- 2/5
The elevator took 8 minutes to arrive. The internet tv wouldn’t connect. The Third Floor restaurant smelled of moldy wet towels and permeated throughout the entire course of breakfast. The shower handle barely stayed on the wall. The hotel was not worth the price. Disappointed and we won’t be returning.

Clean, updated rooms with a great view if on the top floors! Elevators were a little slow, so had to plan for that extra time. Otherwise, a great stay.

- 3/5
The room was smaller than it looked online. The shower was barely functional. What did shine were the people. Especially Elizabeth, our housekeeper. She has been there over 30 plus years and has terrific people skills and was extremely accommodating and helpful. She would be the reason we would return. Great location
- 1/5
Lack of service, everything took too long to get to our room.
- 4/5
room was very nice and well thought out
- 5/5
Beautiful room and courteous staff. Highly recommend.
- 3/5
Definitely not worth the price. The staff is friendly but the rooms are bland and stupidly designed
- 5/5
Love this hotel!
- 5/5
This place is highly recommended.
- 5/5
The room was immaculate, with gorgeous views. Every staff member we interacted with was extremely friendly & helpful. The bar prepared phenomenal drinks & paired with the gorgeous ambiance of the fire pits on the patio, overlooking the city, made for such a romantic experience. We had the most amazing time, thank you all so much !
- 5/5
I had a great stay at The Jay Hotel—fantastic location, stylish décor, and a room that was more spacious than I expected. Staff is friendly, and their concierge, Margues is truely amazing professional with wonderful hospitality.
- 3/5
Towels were thin and small. Only 1 robe available. TV didn’t work
- 5/5
It is located in a nice area but it is noisy at times. Love the views and the staff were very friendly
- 5/5
We loved our room. Big room with a cozy couch, giant comfy bed, gorgeous design and lots of drinks/snacks for purchase in the room.
- 5/5
Great and friendly staff. The hotel is very pretty.
- 5/5
Great Hotel. Room was wonderful. Bed super comfortable, huge TV, super clean. Everthing high end.

Everything was wonderful. Extremely inviting and welcoming vibe. Will be booking again
- 1/5
It took forever to get into Valet parking. The staff was rude do not recommend.
- 5/5
Everything in the property was great except the tv didn’t work in the rooms our whole stay we were in the suite and we had to keep calling. Valet was horrible each day they were rude and they were late bringing to car down and lost our ticket several times. $88 a day not fair to customer
- 5/5
The housekeeping lady is friendly, and she does a good job! Nothing to picky
- 4/5
The room was spacious and clean. The price was a little over the top, especially when the plug in the bathroom zapped my husband’s electric razor, and shot a spark on his hand. Luckily, he wasn’t burned, but the clippers sure are.

The elevator was under maintenance and there were long waiting times.
- 3/5
Overall, the hotel stay was standard. We loved that the hotel was central and clean. Unfortunately, our room was next to the elevator so we constantly heard the elevator passing. In addition, the staff was very stoic and not very personable. We had issues with being double charged for parking and had to go through multiple staff members to get it corrected. I would probably opt to stay at another Marriott property for our next visit to San Francisco.
- 5/5
The room was beautiful, the atmosphere was amazing! I would’ve given five stars but every time we used vallet we

- 5/5
Amazing hotel. Highly recommend. Staff were very friendly. The hotel was clean and even catered to my special personal occasion.
- 5/5
Very clean and spacious suite. Nicely updated and very quiet. Only thing I would nit pick is the towels are a bit rough for my liking. Check in was easy and workout area was very nice. Would love to stay here again.

Awesome hotel
- 1/5
Being totally ignored at the bar as though we were invisible. No double pane glass, so floors 1-10 the street noise was ridiculously loud. Moved to 18th floor and the handle in the shower came off in my hand
- 5/5
Such a beautiful hotel
- 5/5

- 5/5
Great place!
- 5/5
Let me check in early. Staff was helpful and friendly.
- 1/5
This is a beautiful luxury building, but it offers no real service or convenience. Instead, there are constant inconveniences and extra fees for customers. I paid $650 per night and felt I got nothing in return. I would never recommend anyone stay at this hotel.
- 5/5
The property is clean and new and nicely decorated. Lots of nice sitting area options and the hotel restaurant breakfast was really good.
- 5/5
Very clean and comfortable room! Enjoyed the gym!
- 5/5
Good location. Nicely decorated hotel and rooms. The whole place was clean. Loved our stay.

This place is amazing! Beautiful property that I will be back to again and again

I was charged for parking but didn’t drive
- 5/5
Beautiful rooms, excellent service, and a perfect location. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We would definitely come back — highly recommended!
- 5/5
Nice clean hotel and close to good attractions on the Embarcadero
- 2/5
No Tv remote, phone did not work, towels were paper thin, water in shower trunk led out. Expensive place for all of this. Was not happy

Well thought out hotel concept! Loved it.

Beautiful remodel on this architecturally significant structure by renowned Architect John Portman. Stay in a north facing room, upper stories.
- 5/5
Catherine at the front desk was awesome! She ensured our stay was special we will be back again!
- 5/5
Excellent staff, clean, great property all around!
- 5/5
Ting in and out thru the cuty to the hotel is easy and theres a bunch of food and things to do around the hotel, go tonhotel from now on
- 5/5
Nice , clean and very quiet place.. the only one thing, I would like to have two robes for the room with a king bed.. , because it not ok to share one robe with my husband. The another good thing is to have Nespresso machine in the room.. Otherwise, it is the best experience I’ve ever had!
- 5/5
Overall a great stay, loved the location, the room and the view was out of this world. Service was top notch and very friendly. The bed was one of the more comfortable ones that I’ve experienced in any hotel. One critique the elevators might stand with a little maintenance, one of the elevators made a terrible metal scrapping noise when going to our floor on 24, it definitely didn’t sound normal and was a bit concerning. That aside I would easily book again on our next trip.
- 5/5
The only issue is the door to the outside didn't close, and so I heard A LOT of street noise.
- 2/5
Staff were extremely rude and unhelpful
- 5/5
Very nice hotel very nice staff thank you
- 5/5
The design and fixtures are top of the line. Great location & walkable to Restaurants. Very clean and staff are friendly & accommodating. We will definitely be back.
- 5/5
Great for our weekend get away.
- 5/5
My first time and was greeted perfectly
- 5/5
So happy we stayed here! We had connecting rooms, and the staff were able to accommodate our request for early check-in/late check-out. Rooms were very clean & the views of the Bay and Transamerica Building were a great bonus! Easy walk (10 min.) from the Ferry Building. Close to cable car stop. We took public transit (Streetcar) from the Ferry Building/Embarcadero to Pier 39. Rooms were very clean & the views of the bay and Transamerica Building were such a great bonus! We will be back!!
- 3/5
Our experience with the hotel itself was great, the rating is relating to the valet service. items were stolen from our car, a brand new set of Adidas samba shoes, a duffle bag and a kindle tablet.
- 5/5
amazing room big and modern . very nice !!
- 5/5
parking rate is expensive. Clean and quiet place overall
- 5/5

Disappointed with service and room cleanliness
- 5/5
Truly enjoyed the room and the hotel.
- 5/5
Great rooms and great staff. The checkin woman was incredibly friendly and helpful. Thank you.
- 5/5
Beautiful, updated property. Everything is very elegant
- 5/5
This place is gorgeous. The rooms are well appointed. The staff is friendly and helpful. This might be my new favorite place to say in San Francisco.
- 5/5
The room was clean and beautiful. Valet was awesome and easy to navigate. The bartenders in the evening were amazing. Breakfast was a bit slow but everyone was still nice. Overall we loved our stay there!!
- 3/5
Only thing made me upset was the floor they gave us. It was 3rd with a lot of noise from outdoor sitting area.
- 5/5
Restaurant and coffee service not great, but reception fantastic. Huge rooms and good location near the Embarcadero.
- 5/5
High end great service
- 5/5
Cool spot
- 5/5
One of the best hotels in SF… and I’ve stayed nearly at all them
- 5/5
The hotel was beautiful. The room was spacious, nicely decorated, and had cozy feel. Also the staff were so warm and welcoming. Lastly, the housekeeping team was on it, every time we came back from our outings the room was spotless, had new towels and the bed was made.
- 5/5
A pleasant hotel clean and comfortable
- 4/5
Nice place clean and comfortable room. Expect to pay for parking.
- 5/5
Rooms was impressively clean and comfortable.
- 2/5
What an utter disappointment! You are not made to feel like a special guest here…it feels like you’re just another body to fill the space. We understand breakfast was not included but we were very surprised there wasn’t even a coffeemaker In the room. The service at this hotel is poor at best. Would not recommend staying here at all!
- 4/5
Comfy bed clean nice products and linens Shower good. Balcony off the bathroom awkward Very cool design but misses in a few details in places too design so cool to the point of awkward. Closet in bathroom okay but could've included a place on sink to hang hand towel. Coffee maker on nightstand is weird and main room lighting was very dark can barely see otherwise enjoyed my stay
- 3/5
Was given a disabled room, found the front door frustrating as it was not clear how to close the door, and no instruction was available. Requested a sewing kit, was not delivered in 45 min, had to ask again and ran out of time to use it. Needed to collect my bags to catch a flight, one person working at the desk, waited for 3 people in front of me to check in. Had less time to get to airport, more stress.
- 5/5
Amazing renovation! The energy of the place is modern, cozy, accessible and elegant.
- 5/5
Best hotel I’ve stayed at in a very long time!
- 5/5
Me and my wife enjoyed our stay here very much. Also, all of the staff was including edible hospitable and kind.
- 4/5
The Jay is a brand new hotel, and it is well decorated and looks very nice. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The water pressure in the shower kind of sucks. This is California and so water is restricted, but they could use better shower heads. The maid was banging on my door at 8am to clean the room, which was a little irritating. There is a nice sized gym in the basement with a lot of broken equipment, which is concerning based on the age of the hotel. The staff was all very friendly. All in all it was a nice stay.
- 5/5
Great find in SF
- 5/5
Checking in and out was a smooth process, and you can tell that the hotel was recently renovated, as the room and hallways were extremely clean and seemed to be in mint condition. We'll definitely come back again!
- 4/5
It was Amazing!!! One slight thing was the one guy the night of check in was inconsiderate of me and my daughter (14) walking by ourselves 3 blocks in the dark at 2 am became the self-parking garage was closed. The manager, she was Amazing and she had security escort us and take us to the closer garage to be safe because we were two females alone in the dark chexking in. Besides that, EVERYTHING Was Amazing.
- 5/5
Very nice place. Very clean. Hate: got a a call at 5 am wrong room
- 5/5
Best hotel in SF
- 4/5
Beautiful hotel. Rooms are well designed. Stayed briefly so can’t comment on amenities. Would stay again.
- 5/5
Excellent quality property with nice bar and restaurant on 3rd floor. Beautiful skyline views when facing the Bay.
- 5/5
Overpriced restaurant for poor tasting food, valet not included.
- 5/5
Enjoyed my stay, loved the staff, and the location
- 5/5
Just a couple of minor things- the sensor lights under the beds should be able to be turned off. The coffee at the coffee bar was terrible, luckily the Ferry Building is a quick walk for better coffee options. The shower floor was rough on the feet. Th view was incredible! Overall our stay was great!
- 5/5
The hotel was great, I would stay here again
- 5/5
My husband and I came to San Francisco to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had never stayed here before. The reviews were good overall and we heard it had been newly remodeled. This hotel did not disappoint! The service was absolutely excellent and the atmosphere of the bar and restaurant was so vibey! Our room was super clean and fully stocked with drinks and snacks (for a price of course). Valet parking is offered and they have a parking garage right across the street for a cheaper price. Room service was so convenient and absolutely delicious. We’ve already started planning our trip back.
- 5/5
Beautiful, clean and super friendly staff. I would definitely recommend!
- 5/5
The junior suite was super cute
- 5/5
We asked Katharine for a quiet room and she actually listened and obliged. Our stay was excellent because we could actually sleep.
- 5/5
The model art deco room was very clean and so comfortable. We forgot our toothbrushes and they kindly sent some to our room. I will be staying there again and again whenever I’m in San Francisco.
- 5/5
Loved that they were able to decorate my room for a romantic night with my partner!
- 5/5
Great hotel
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, friendly and helpful customer service, great location
- 4/5
Usually I stay in Union Square/SOMA area, decided to go different and be in the Financial District, loved it! There is so much to do around, whether it’s going to the Pier, enjoying the majestic views, or going to the restaurants nearby. You can never go wrong with anywhere in SF, but I would definitely revisit this area, specifically the Jay! I did put 4 stars instead of 5 because I saw a stain on the wall, which is fine, not everything in hotels are going to be perfect. Other than that, no complaints and I was very comfortable in my Luxury Suite! It was quiet. Even came with a balcony (with a view of the Bay Bridge!) which I was not aware of. Also, more affordable compared to the others I’ve stayed at.
- 5/5
Love this place! We will be back for sure!
- 5/5
This was a last minute booking when I had to change my plans. The room (double queen) was beautiful, finished to an excellent standard with lots of touches in the detail to make it feel like a luxury option (size, furnishings, lighting, corner floor to ceiling window, huge tv, bathroom facilities, late checkout, range of in-room drinks and snacks). These in room sundries were relatively high cost but were optional and pricing was clear. We didn’t have much need to interact with staff but everyone was courteous at checking in/out. The only reduction I noted in the star rating was location, and this was because there was little around that was open when we were there (not a surprise in the financial district on an evening). It did feel safe to walk around. We would definitely book here again.
- 5/5
Beautiful property and elegant rooms. Wonderful views of the bay to boot. The food was exceptional as was the staff.
- 5/5
My family and I really enjoyed our stay. Our room was very nice, our dining experience was enjoyable, and the staff were very helpful. We will definitely be returning on our next family trip to San Francisco!
- 5/5
Great boutique hotel with plenty of amenities, great location, gorgeous views. Close to downtown, North beach, Union Square, and the amazing Ferry Building. Clean and friendly.
- 5/5
Fantastic hotel!!
- 5/5
Very nice room. Staff was super helpful and welcoming.
- 3/5
My first night was at room 1812, next to the elevator room, which I could hear the elevator rolling up and down through out the night. The second night I stayed at room 1114, it was much quieter, but the same lady manager called the room twice to clarified the name on the reservation. Then a cleaning lady came into the room before my check out time. I like the location and the decor of the property, but wouldn't stay here again because all the disturbances.
- 3/5
I reserved the executive suite with a bay view which was very missed leading. The room faced the city first and the front desk representative explained that building 1900 was all of the bay. There was no sofa and no view of the bay. Beside that it was very noisy you could hear the cars playing loud music at night and your neighbors using their bathroom. Positive the rooms are clean and the beds are extremely comfy.
- 2/5
As a Marriott card holder and member I did not feel this property’s staff offered next level service. I felt as if they were reading a script. Additionally the restaurant and lounge hours are not the same as listed on the Marriott app. we had to shift plans last minute. Many more options in SF for better value
- 5/5
Awesome experience. Very clean and safe.
