A small walk to the beach and boardwalk

It was fine for our 2 nights when we knew we were mostly just using the room to sleep -- the bed was comfy, and the nights we were there were quiet
- 5/5
I would go back, everything would be fine.

Attention!!!!! Be aware of this property!!!!! Last weekend my family & I stayed in this hotel, when we arrived the check in was easy and everything was going well. The room was so dirty, not well cleaned, left over used toilet paper, the doors were stain of makeup and some type of orange sticky food, could be Cheetos, the walls were all dirty and the certain was full of dryed ice cream from days before. That’s not it there is more! Friday afternoon we got some dinner sat in the patio where there is tables and chair, and a person first asked how to get a hold of front desk and we told him where to go, he then came back and ask for a water bottle, left to his room and came back downstairs and sat in the patio, he started mentioning all the types of drugs he was selling and also that he was hiding from the cops!!!! When this was heard I didn’t feel comfortable I try to get a hold of the front desk for hours and no answer no reply, until the next day and still didn’t want to give my money back!!!!! Will not stay here again, this was my 2nd time staying in this hotel and 1st time didn’t have a problem but this time it was unacceptable, I will not be staying here and if you have small kids be aware because this hotels approves a lot of drug dealers to walk in and out of the property. Is a very nice place but will not be staying here ever. Be aware!!!!! Always read the reviews!!!!!

First, my room was literally under the stairs and next to the ice machine, guaranteeing near constant noise. Second, I didn’t even feel comfortable taking my shoes off, it was that dingy. Third, the bathroom was ancient and reeked of urine, and a really nasty bug kept crawling out of the drain in the sink and disappearing before I could kill it. Lastly, when I checked in, I thought I’d booked three nights. The young man at the counter didn’t confirm the length of my stay, so when I got a call saying I was late for checkout on the second morning, I was totally caught off guard. Obviously, it was my mistake, but by the time I reached the hotel (1 pm), they’d removed all my possessions from the room and I was forced to pack in the parking lot like I’d been evicted; I even had to change in the parking lot, which was extremely humiliating. Like I said, it was my mistake. Still, I’ve never felt so disrespected as a customer and I urge you to avoid patronizing this business

Room was nice, location is convenient, and pool/hot tub were nice.
- 1/5
Out of the two days I was there. There were no hot water mainly cold to lukewarm. The AC worked fantastic. Certain lights did not work and they were like holes in the wall that were patched up.
- 5/5
This hotel was great and was very helpful when anything happened. Had no issues with us bringing our dogs and was so nice when we asked for anything!

I booked this room because the pool for my kids we went to our trip a day early to enjoy that there was no indication that the pool was going to be closed for maintenance that day and when we got there there was no accommodation or anything for us when that’s the only reason we booked there.. I most definitely will not be going back
- 2/5
Location close to board, but room was dirty and no wifi, sink was clogged. The room was not clean , but after a long day we just need it a place to rest , but definitely not coming back, sink clogged. No wifi.

The first room that they gave us smells at cigarettes and they change us to different room. In that one didn't have body wash and we found a cockroach .

It was affordable and close to the beach One of the rooms had a small leak and they switched our room with no problem

Pet friendly hotel, but there's not pet area - you have to go to the park next door which sometimes contains people smoking crack. I don't know if it's the clientele or the neighborhood, but this hotel was also really loud for a Monday night. The walls are very thin and we were woken up after midnight by someone blasting their TV. Otherwise just your basic cheap hotel, fairly clean and nice.
- 4/5

Close to beach Check in on a computer
- 5/5
The room was clean, however there was no toilet paper available and some parts of the wall were missing chunks. Otherwise it was an ok room to stay in.
- 1/5
The only pro with this hotel is the location and amenities. Other than that my room was not that clean, bathroom smell very bad and toilet and sink had a lot of scratches on it which I am not sure what I should think of. Smoke detector was take out I ended up realizing it very late and it’s in one of the bed side drawers. AC was not working properly well it keeps going on and off the whole night. So the room doesn’t really get cold.

- 3/5
It was okay…but for the price I was expecting something more updated.
- 5/5
The hotel itself was fantastic. Remodeled, good location, nice staff. Unfortunately we had the upstairs neighbors intentionally making all kind of noise all night with no respect for other guests. That was the only negative.
- 5/5
Very nice
- 4/5
Our room was good considering we really only came to the room to change, shower and sleep. We really were outside tge whole stay. The room was basic but had the necessities. We had a couple towels that I couldn't tell if they were dirty or clean so we just asked for more. They had no problem giving as many as we needed. Parking gets real after the sun sets so I suggest get your spot early and walk to the Boardwalk. The room we had, was a king in the main room and a full...or a queen in the second room of our room. ( yes there was a whole bedroom aside from the living room.) The only problem was the bedroom didn't have ac so we just slept in the main room.
- 2/5
Took quite a while to check in (no line). Said they had "mini-golf" which was a putting green. Never mentioned the spa and pool. No parking spots available. Very noisy. In the morning, they was a man sitting on the stairs in front of a ton of garbage, and think I saw vomit in the corridor. No nearby place to plug in coffee maker. Pillows not comfortable.
- 1/5
The loudest party spring break kind of ridiculous loud kind of place . Holes in walls , mattress was wet from last renter that soaked through blankets( gross) . No hot water, huge gaps under and sides of the front door for bugs to come in. Staff was unhelpful and did not get sleep in the 2 night stay. Shady box truck in parking lot blasting music loud all night using power tools. No security and no overnight staff. Only amenity is indoor pool and large hotub that is over chlorinated leaving chemical burns on skin . Not advised to stay here.
- 3/5
I wasn't aware of the $100 deposit upon checking in, which you don't get back until 3 buisness days later, which felt sketchy especially because the room itself was $160. The phone in the room didn't turn on, which isn't much of an inconvenience, but we did have to walk to the office for more towels. One of our hand towels looked dirty (had a large black smudge). The AC worked great, and we had a nice view. Overall, I'd give the Surf City Inn a 6/10.
- 4/5
there is two bed in affordable price good for family
- 1/5
The experience at this establishment was extremely disappointing. The rooms were unclean, with one having an oven that emitted smoke without triggering the alarm, necessitating evacuation. Upon returning, the room was infested with roaches. Despite spending nearly $1500 per night for two rooms, there was no on-site staff to address these issues or provide cleaning supplies. Initial impressions were positive, but the reality was far from it. The bathrooms were unhygienic, with visible footprints, hair, and sand, and the toilet paper was nearly depleted without replacement. The bedding was dirty, and the TV remotes were either non-functional or provided limited channels, contrary to the advertised Netflix access. Additionally, the pool was cloudy, and there were no towels available. Overall, it was an awful experience.
- 5/5
Got a great last minute deal, so that made me a bit hesitant but the room and the location were perfect! Very spacious rooms
- 5/5
Should install non-slip material in tub instead of relying on guest putting down the mat.
- 5/5
Check in was effortless and customer service was excellent!
- 1/5
Terrible it had roaches on the bed when we woke up never agajn
- 4/5
Could have left an extra roll of toilet paper and the water pressure in the shower was low.
- 5/5
Pets are welcome with $40.00 deposit

Bathroom was a total mess falling apart is what i looked like will not return sorry and the front desk was just a mess to check in location was fine that’s about it hard beds and didn’t feel the cleanest either
- 5/5
Nice accommodations with plenty of room. We had a room with three queen beds which is hard to find in some spots. Room was clean and staff was friendly.
- 1/5
Room was pretty beat up. Holes in the walls, doors will not open and close properly. Tub was dirty.
- 5/5
Awesome spot kids loved it
- 3/5
Our stay was ok housekeeping forgot to clear while we were gone and the shower took forever to get hot😒😒
- 5/5
Love staying here! Super close to the beach.
- 3/5
Pretty basic room, it was an OK shape. Best part about this place is they have indoor pool and hot tub pretty close to walk to the boardwalk
- 3/5
The room was nice and clean and a really good size. Everything worked well and the beds were pretty comfy. However, check in was terrible. I was talking to someone on a computer screen that could not hear me. There were cleaners yelling to each other across the parking lot and there didn't seem to be anyone on site over night. Other guest were making tons of noise and even arguing outside and no staff to call for help. I would have definitely stayed again if it weren't for all the noise.
- 5/5
My mistake about TV remote control being dirty bc I didn't stay in Rm 217; that was at the the Islander Motel.
- 4/5
the kitchen was cute but the fire alarm went off so much when we cooked. There was minimal smoke/steam with the window open and fans on, it still went off, it was annoying. good stay tho
- 1/5
There’s a lot of people that looked sketchy while staying there. People smoking right in front of you. Would not recommend if staying with your family/kids.. Shortly after checking in, my husband and I witnessed an altercation happening right next to our room. We tried to deescalate the situation but it did not get resolved until the cops showed up accompanied by someone else who knew of the altercation. We asked the front desk to see about getting our refund after the frustrating incident that occurred by Surfs tenants and the front desk could care less. Safety is not a concern to Surf City, they just want your money.
- 3/5
I just think the pool should have a reg pool guy so the pool would have accurate chemicals for the pol to have ph and all levels are at the need sometimes the pool isn’t
- 3/5
It’s ok , I it would be nice if you gout compt a free night therecusevto be hotels compt the regular visits/stays 🙃
- 3/5
The pool and hot tub. It wasn't the cleanest, you can tell the wall tiles need a scrubbing. It was relaxing for about 10 minutes until families started to come in and the children were getting in the hot tub. Unapologetically, accidentally stepping on our feet, hitting our knees. Max people in the hot tub according to rules was 8. There was way more than that after 10 minutes, no longer relaxing. We left the pool area. Towel service staff was kind. Will never stay at this hotel again. Male guest in the morning was extremely loud sounded as if he was in our room.
- 1/5
To start, the front desk was not available and instead, check in was at a kiosk. We had a leak from ceiling when we first checked in. Had to switch rooms, which was very inconvenient. The room smelt completely like bleach. The walls were so thin we can hear everything going on from outside and the rooms next door. Worst hotel stay by far.
- 1/5
I had a non forsea
- 3/5
Had to check in/out and discuss any issues over a kiosk that was outside and it was pouring rain. Tv did not work the entire time we were there. Loved how close it was to the boardwalk and wharf
- 3/5
The room looked clean but there was a weird smell to it. I can't pinpoint what it was. Staff is very nice. You can tell that it's an old building. Overall it's good for the price you pay and it's close to the Boardwalk
- 4/5
We had a blast. We’ll stay there again!
- 1/5
We had a confirmation # and the charge was already on my card, the person on the kiosk even had our confirmation # but said somehow it wasn’t fully confirmed. I cannot believe we were turned away and not given a room.
- 2/5
Staff was friendly. Room was a bit run down. Hot tub was warm, not hot. No coffee other than two pods and no office access before 9:00 am. Was pleasant but could have been a bit better.
- 4/5
I have seen a lot of negative reviews on this hotel so I was a little nervous before checking in. I called on our way to see if it was possible to get a bottom floor room as we were brining our bikes. They accommodated me no questions asked. They are dog friendly and in an excellent location! Close to the boardwalk and tons of food. Our room was great for what we needed plus tons of room for our 3 bikes. We had hot water and AC.
- 1/5
Our room was literally dirty, within one hour of checking in we were asking for a refund to move. They refused but offered us a different room. It was cleaner, but still not the greatest, at least it smelled cleaned and the blankets/sheets had fold creases as if they had been recently changed. Both rooms were missing the pullout couch as stated. Baffled as to why they charge a $100 cleaning deposit upon arrival for a room that wasn’t cleaned in the first place lol we decided to eat the cost and stay at the hotel right next door and had a much better experience.
- 5/5
Great place to stay
- 1/5
Room was the worst possible room they had, stuck in the corner with 2 other units and the cleaming staffs laundry and supplies room. The doors were not sealed and had major gaps causing for a less than ideal climate in the room and the moise echoing from the cleaning staff and thousands of kids that are left to run a muck without any checking from parents. No water pressure and the ueat was only on for the first 2 minutes then only warm. There was no dresser in my horribly placed room that should only cost hals the price . No closet to put my stuf , only under a table next to the fridge and microwave ( im astonished this place had these) and the horrible little coffee maker and even worse coffee . Disgusting. Oh and you had to unplug one of them to use the other. Not worth the money, stay somewhere else 💯
- 4/5
Super noisy, close to the beach!
- 4/5
Clean and staff were friendly
- 2/5
Room was not restocked or cleaned appropriately. There was no soap in the bathroom. The condiments for the coffee maker were opened. The toilet wasn’t flushed? I was already over it because the first room they gave me, someone was in there! So I dealt with the less than ideal room since I just needed somewhere to crash for the night. Also, it’s listed as pet friendly but there is nowhere for your pets to relieve themselves on the property. You need to walk to a neighboring park. So beware if you’re uncomfortable being at parks at weird hours for your dog
- 3/5
Benefit was the pricing and the short walk to the beach and the Boardwalk!
- 2/5
The door to room closed, but there was a huge gap between the bottom and the door jamb. The shower curtain was virtually useless because it did not even reach the tub. Checking in by kiosk was not an experience. I hope to replicate ever again.
- 1/5
I ended up leaving after three trips back to the frontI waited for maintenance for almost 90 minutes to fix a non-operational TV and phone.
- 2/5
I just feel I have stayed there a lot and maybe I could have gold customer status and maybe upgrades rooms or much cheaper rates I always thought hotels would do that kind of stuff I haven’t gotten any every time I ask hardly budge I’ve spent a lot of $$$ why not
- 5/5
AC was great, staff was accommodating, nothing fancy but a great location and fairly priced. Really appreciated the room had 3 queen beds, I've never seen that before but it gave my whole family a place to sleep.
- 3/5
Negative- - Outside trash bins were overfilled, no one at the lobby (you check in via computer), no security (2 weirdos lurking around overnight, car was broken into via smashed window) and the hot tub was maybe 74⁰F at most. It was the cheapest option, if you're looking to rest your head, its ok, but as a multiple night stay maybe look elsewhere
- 1/5
Let’s just saw I felt we got ripped off. Blood on the towels. Spider, cockroach and other bug in the room had to kill. Homeless blankets in the back of my view in the yard very creepy. The flooring broken the walls patched with ugly paint not matching air conditioning super loud not a pleasant stay barely any pillows. Probably the worst place. I’ve stayed now in California. Very disappointed. I’m never going there again. One star in my book.
- 1/5
Could only stay one night due to room and property conditions. Stained and dirty sheets. Dirty floors. Walls super thin. Went down the street to Courtyard Marriott and paid the same price for one of the best hotels we've stayed in. Unfortunately, we couldn't get a refund from Surf City because we reserved through Expedia.

Upon arriving at 10pm at night with my two young children, it was a very apparent that this motel was not a safe or peaceful place for us to stay. Our upstairs neighbors made noise and sounded like they were moving the furniture around all night long, the room had smelled like it had been hot boxed with smoke and in the morning there was no hot water available even after running it for over 30 minutes. The management staff was incredibly unhelpful, and even though we only stayed one night they refused to refund us for unused portion of our stay. This place is not only completely made up of scammers, but there were tweakers roaming the property all morning as well. Do not stay here.
- 1/5
Im a pretty forgiving guy and can look over alot of issues. But this was pretty bad. After paying an outrageous $175 we checked in after being at the beach all day to find the hot water was broken. Now even in the morning, no hot water and no showers. Our friends canceled and got refunded after finding live roaches in their room. We paid an extra $50 for a 3rd person / 2nd bed. Yet there was only 1 towel in the room and it had a bug on it. The pool wasnt bad but again no towels so had to track down housekeeping. In the morning only 2 coffees in room, and when I went to the front to get more there was no one who could assist, even though it claims to have 24/7 front desk. It may have been nice at one point but they need some work now
- 2/5
Wifi didn’t work. Shower pressure very low. Neighbor next to us opened and closed their door every minute or two until midnight. Played music and smoked weed outside when my kid was outside. Very glad it was only for one night.
- 2/5
The hotel was fairly clean and staff were great. The only problem was the coffee maker was very dirty.
- 1/5
Really bad experience! Roaches and hot water was not working
- 5/5
perfect for last minute stay
- 3/5
Loud music unable to use pool and spa due to another traveler having a party with undrr age drinking in the pool area. Very loud you could here them in the room. Virtual check in no elevator no choice given if you need lower floor. Maintenance in rooms are not good. Will be staying elsewhere next time.
- 2/5
I booked 2 rooms....1 room was absolutely filthy (dried vomit on floor, poop on wall in bathroom, curtain had white sticky substance on them, and what looked like dried urine by the AC) The other room had live roaches.... My family and i packed our stuff up and left after the first couple of hours. The only reason why I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 is because the staff was friendly and I got a full refund. Needless to say I will read others' reviews carefully next time.
- 1/5
When we first arrived at the hotel and were given our room key, we opened the door, and it looked like a bunch of drugged out people had just left. Dirty sheets were all over the bed and floor; used towels; beer cans strewn everywhere; and the occasional condom. It was disgusting. I actually started looking for another hotel then and there, but hotels totally gauge you if you’re trying to get a room on the same night you’re calling. So, I went back to the front desk at this one, told them what I walked into, and insisted on a clean room (even though at this point I didn’t trust that anything would be remotely clean or sanitary here.) The guy behind the counter did give us another room, and it was ok enough, but there were still little stains on some of the towels, etc. I could go on, but you get the point. Let’s just say that we will NEVER book a room here again. The two guys behind the front desk did their best to apologize for a really bad situation, and I realize that they weren’t the owners. They were truly trying to do the best they could with a really run down hotel. It can be hard to earn a living; I get it. But this property really crossed the line for me.

First night was ok. Saturday night,
- 3/5
Got checked in by a kiosk which was different. The guy on screen had weak wifi or something took longer then dealing with someone face to face would of took. Got their about 8pm we decided to hit the pool they close at 10pm. We asked for towels kiosk man said it would be delivered to my room it never came. I have a family of 5 with me 2 adults 3 kids. I only had 2 bath towels in the room. When we came out the pool I ran into the indian hindy man with long hair that opened up to give someone toilet paper. I asked for some towels and he told me their closed lol. I said no man I have a family of 5 and only have 2 bath towels in the room. He went to his computer looking at my room number or something. He finally came with 3 towels. I never had a hotel try to refuse something like that to me lol. The next day the other staff was good gave us swim towels aswell. Room was decent had 3 beds everything worked was clean . I never had a problem with parking.

Me me my partner went to location had cops called on us for no reason and got kicked out due to some other people issues next door, ruined our experience and time. Had to find another room and staff wouldn’t understand our story and made us the bad people when my partner and I had nothing to do with it.

Worst night and motel ever!
- 1/5
It was dirty, smelled like cigarettes, had damaged walls, just overall not well kept. And, the check-in. Is a person via video on a kiosk where the card reader for showing ID didn’t work. We had a complaint about the room & the kiosk person sent a message to the manager. We waited 10 minutes yet nobody came.
- 5/5
Very fast and easy check in and loved the inside pool and jacuzzi room was spacious and clean especially having a room with 3 queens!!!
- 3/5
Staff were nice. Room was a little beaten, especially bathroom. Great location. Fair for the price. Towels had stains. Thin walls.
- 5/5
Room was very clean, staff was great!
- 5/5
Great service, with fast check in and out, no problem whatsoever! In a nice place and great price compared to surrounding hotels.
- 4/5
The location was great, walking distance to both downtown and the beach. The room was clean and comfortable. My only suggestion would be to add a bedside lamp.
- 3/5
Kind of loud, outside sounds as well as neighboring room noises. Tried to use the hot tub but there was a ton of people in the pool room most of the evening, pool room doesn’t require a key so anybody can just go in.
- 3/5
The internet was out most of the time. Our phones would go in and out. Also the tv would constantly freeze. Wasnt even wirth trying to watch tv. I called the front desk and they said they were having internet problems that would not be fixed anytime soon and could not give us any kind of refund
- 1/5
terrible bed! pillows were flat the people upstairs were up till 2 am rolling chairs back n forth sounded like they were banging and moving furniture and was so so so awful!! the hot tub wasn't hot! the room was dirty the bathroom had paint all in the floor and big old punch in the wall that was only patched!! worst hotel ever

First, they gave us a hole in the wall room. The number to the room was taped on the door with the piece of paper. The clerk kept my ID on accident, and I couldn’t even call to tell them that he had my ID because there was no phone in the room, so I had to walk in the pouring rain to the front office to get it back. Then in the middle of the night, the electricity went out in that room, and I wasn’t able to charge my phone to even be able to call them to let them know I’m pretty upset and would like some kind of credit or some kind of payment for my inconvenience. If someone can, please get a hold of me when I let them know at the front desk in the morning. When I checked out they were very rude.
- 3/5
Clean room and good parking but omg its so loud, I heard everything and everyone. Its great for walking to surrounding places but driving to access the lot is on a one-way street, which makes it hard to get to if you don't go a certain way
- 5/5
Great little spot. Clean, spacious, free parking included abd such a close walk to the boardwalk. Just a straight walk up Riverside.
- 4/5
The rooms are clean and simple and the beds are comfortable. We love the hot tub and pool, it’s a good place to stay if pn
- 5/5
We had some issues with loud neighbors up to 4 am. The management moved us to a nicer room with no overnight distractions.
- 3/5
It was fine. Check in was a bit of a hassle being virtual.
- 4/5
Nice except they use VERY bright lights in the room that can give you a headache. Hot tub was nice but the jets didnt work. Very nice area.
- 5/5
Appreciate the staff and love that there's a indoor pool and hot tub. Also close to everything.
- 5/5
I stay at Surf City for business and i have zero complaints. My room was like a 2 bedroom apartment clean and the service was great..
- 3/5
We asked to check in rarly and they said it would be $50 but we showed up⁰
- 2/5
Dirty sheets and old towels.
- 2/5
The room was not cleaned properly, towels had holes, blood spots on doors and windows, pen scribbles on the heater cover and inside all of the drawers. The front desk clerk was non attentive. There were homeless people doing drugs and passed out on the benches out front. There was also a hole in the bedroom door. I would not stay here again.
- 1/5
Room looks like old. Wall floppy. Toilet paper hanger loosing.
- 3/5
It was a bit disappointing check in they had a virtual person, that couldn't locate my reservation. Had to repeat my name numerous times, tried to offer my confirmation number, but just keep telling me he couldn't find my booking. So they had to ask the on-site person help, which withn seconds he located my reservation.

human feces by drain in hot tub, dirty walls and corners, vanity falling apart, had acres back door that was covered by fridge couldn’t use, minimal hot water at 7 pm,horribly loud room was under stairs room 116.

For the price, this place was good. It's close to the beach, near dining, has an indoor hot tub, and plenty of parking.
- 5/5
Nice clean room close the beach.

Needs a quiet time on the property.

At $120.00 per night I expected a clean room

Nice location, walkable to beach. Nice pool and hot tub.

Couldn't sleep well, noise from unit upstairs made it hard to sleep,it carried on here and there until 8 pm and then started from 6 am until i checked out, it sounded like they were doing repairs upstairs.

Clean Room. Fine for the rate paid. However, it was a Deluxe King Suite with full kitchen. However, they offer no utensils, plates, cup, pans, nothing. Very odd that it was not mentioned in the listing that nothing was supplied. I went and purchased the necessities and upon return the power was out to the neighborhood. No lights no heat. Not the properties fault as weather was in the area. But, there was no one attending the property and the listed number for the property did not work. No way to check in or check out. Il ultimately left after 3 hours in the dark and contacted Expedia. I was rebooked at another property and was assured a full refund would be given.
- 4/5
Hot tub was hot did not use AC
- 1/5
Very disappointed! When we got to our room as soon as we turned lights on we had a lot of little roaches scattering everywhere. Even in the bathroom so disgusting! We went to front desk to complain they offered another room but still didn’t feel comfortable staying there. We obviously left and didn’t stay and asked them for a refund. They denied our refund, another disappointment. Will not be booking here again!
- 2/5
Staff didn’t want to keep the front desk open they insisted everyone use the outside kiosk, despite the fact they were sitting in the lobby. The kitchen had no “real vent” so the room got Smokey when you cooked. We had neighbors who were fighting and breaking stuff all night long inside their room and outside their room for 2 nights. We set us our room in day 2 to have the housekeeping clean. No one came. We had to use the kiosk yet again just to get garbage bags and towels even tho again the staff was sitting at the lobby desk. The outsourced guest help told us we didn’t get room service because we didn’t answer the door. So on day 3 room service came by and they “couldn’t clean the room because we were in there.” But they handed us garbage bags and towels.

Heat was effective. Hot tub worked well

Super old nothing like the pictures i felt like i got catfished. Pillows had stains and one of the sheets as well. Most towels were also stained

The room smelled terrible. When we arrived we went in and then decided to leave. We knew the room was non refundable so we didn’t check out. We had paid for the two nights. The room was ours for those nights whether we stayed there or not. We did notice some large dark marks on the wall before we left. We did not disturb the room at all and stayed at another hotel near by. We stopped by the room at Surf City on Saturday just to check on it. When we arrived we discovered that the room had been entered while we were at the other hotel. There was a strong smell of paint and the marks on the wall had been painted over. The was paper that had been disposed of in the toilet but not flushed. I am very upset that the room was entered while it was rented out to us. I will be requesting a refund.
- 2/5
More check in staff was needed.
- 5/5
The room was very clean and it was the first time I had a computerized check in and key made right in front of me out of what looks like an ATM machine. The host was via satellite on a screen. It was very advanced and very cool! They also allowed us a late checkout. Extremely comfortable beds. Thx for everything.
- 5/5
The room was literally spotless. Staff was so amazing. This place surprised me at how cool it was and how well they take care of it. I was really impressed and we will be back! Thank you everyone!
- 4/5
Property great value and Good Facility Over All!
- 2/5
The ac worked, the WiFi didn’t. The hotel room was filthy. There was stain on the walls, the boarders of the room where DIRTY. Unfortunately because we traveled far to Santa Cruz, and by the time we checked in, we couldn’t find an alternative stay for my famil. So we stayed in the room, but I would not recommend to families with kids! Not a well cleaned and maintained hotel! Didn’t come with breakfast, no one at front desk upon checkout, super sketch.
- 5/5
We stay in Santa Cruz often and this was by far the best hotel for an affordable price! And the 3 beds in one room is so unique and perfect for a family like ours with two teenagers!
- 2/5
Our room didn’t have toilet paper. There were also dirt/mud stains on the comforter. The TV remote volume buttons didn’t work.
- 3/5
No lamps, only an overhead light. No towels for pool. Only one chair in the room.
- 1/5
No hot water and loud construction in the surrounding rooms that lasted until 10 pm and started again the next morning around 7 am. The walls are also extremely thin so the screaming children, people, and footsteps till late are very audible in your room.
- 5/5
Overall stay was nice , service was good, staff was nice. Amenities was as described . Hot tub indoor pool was best part. Upgraded us due to being out of rooms at check in but we had reservation so that was a plus. But we did order food while we went to pool and hot tub was relaxing in hot tub for about 1 hour 40 mins came back to room and experience small roaches all over our pizza and Wetzle pretzel pizza from pizza of my heart 80$ down the drain. Nice stay but won’t do it again. Let front desk know we’ll see what happens besides getting our deposit back which that’s ours anyway.

We were there for two days and the room wasn’t serviced in any way. The check-in was by kiosk, although occasionally there was a human at the desk. We tried to get coffee for the second day and there was no one there.

room was clean, staff was ok.

- 2/5
Ghetto, loud, not enough parking, feels unsafe, room was clean, tv worked well, when most ppl left in the morning it was way better and the guy at the front desk let us stay until 3pm for $50, so we went to the indoor pool which was very clean and we enjoyed ourselves. But the nightlife at yhis place is wild. Lots of police, like 10 cop cars pulled up when we were checking in with thr virtual guy.
- 5/5
great location. plenty of room
- 5/5
Room was great. It was perfect having the extra bed! Pool and jacuzzi were fine as well. Staff seemed nice.
- 3/5
Clean and heated oool was amazing
- 3/5
These beds are really firm, it felt like I was laying on a thin foam pad on hardwood floor.
- 4/5
Room was nothing spectacular, but good for the night.
- 3/5
I got this room because it has a kitchen but there were no pots, pans, plates, silverware or anything else that a kitchen needs. I asked the front desk about it and was told it was on the website but I never would have thought to check for something like that so I'm letting everyone know that the kitchen is useless unless you bring your own stuff. The room was clean enough, its nothing fancy but its a good location and the front desk was helpful and professional

Nice basic room, noisy neighbors until 3am playing video games.
- 4/5
Weird having to check-in at a Kiosk with someone on a video call, that was obviously in another country. Only the kiosk was available because the lobby was deserted and locked. We arrived at 2:30 in the afternoon with check-in at 3pm. A live person didnt show up until around 4.
- 4/5
We had a lovely stay. The room was clean. The bed was a bit hard but okay. We tried to go into the hot tub and it was extremely dirty literally chunks of god knows what floating around. Would have gotten into the pool but it was cold, which was surprising because I expected it to be heated because it's an indoor pool. But the room itself was lovely.

From the moment we arrived, AK, the front desk manager, impressed us with his warmth, courtesy, and genuine care. He made check-in effortless and made us feel instantly welcome. Our room was immaculate — fresh sheets, soft towels, spotless hardwood floors, and a calming color palette that felt cozy and romantic. Whoever designed these rooms has wonderful taste. No dressers (which makes the space feel larger), and no closet except in the King Suite, so we simply kept things in our suitcase. If you plan to cook, bring your own pots and utensils. The staff were polite, efficient, and always accommodating — quick to bring extra towels for the pool or more coffee packets for our slow mornings. The indoor hot tub was the highlight — separate from the pool and perfect after a day of exploring Santa Cruz. The warm water melted away our fatigue, and the friendly, laid-back vibe made it even better. Parking felt secure, and AK ensured every vehicle was registered for safety. The area itself was peaceful — we were out dancing until 1:30 AM and walked back around 2 AM without a worry. The location couldn’t be better — just a 5-minute stroll to downtown, close to everything yet tucked away enough to feel private. We’ve decided this will be our annual birthday celebration love nest — a place that feels warm, safe, and romantic. We can’t wait to return and hopefully see the same amazing staff who made our stay unforgettable.

This was a strange place to stay--I would not recommend. The hotel itself felt unsafe--lots of drug activity and transient people sleeping and dealing in the parking lot. I woke up to find my car had been broken into overnight. The room itself was old with mold on the bathroom ceiling. The fan/AC unit was so stinky that I wasn't able to use it. A surprise $40 on top of the regular rate for this hotel was not worth it!
- 3/5
It’s fine, just needs to be more on about what room they give out because I don’t
- 5/5
The bed was super comfortable. No one bothered me. No service
- 4/5
Worth the price!

Everything was excellent and the staff was very nice
- 5/5
Family trip, celebrating a birthday. The room was nice and spacious. The bathroom door did not close correctly and the TV controller did not work the first night. We love the indoor pool, spa, and the korn hole game. The second night, the family above us was super noisy. The kids seemed to be running and jumping around. It was hard to sleep.
- 1/5
I will never stay here again. The sheets/comforter had yellow stains, a cigarette burn, bath towel had an orange stain, and the room had a smell. Our room was handicapped and the shower curtain was short which caused the water from the shower to spill out leaving puddles of water. I was told my sheets would be replaced and they never did. Our key stopped working the second night and had to use the Kiosk to speak to someone since the office was closed. This place is not worth the money. The beds were hard and very uncomfortable. So much money spent for us not to have clean sheets and towels.

There is absolutely no where to put your things or unpack. There is no closet and no furniture other than a desk w no drawers. Everything is far if you are on other end and upstairs. If you place a deposit your deposit is not refunded at checkout and I was told that it could take 5-10 days even when a credit card was used not debit card. I would not stay here again.
- 1/5
Run down room, sheets were filthy and stained, floors & walls were filthy. Strange smell entire visit. Sewage repair occurring in other units. Parking was tight. Check in was fast. WiFi was average. Not a place I would ever stay in again.
- 1/5
My $100 deposit. Horrible customer service . Stay away!
- 5/5
Keep in mind, right on a main road and there is no AC so when you have your windows open all night it can be loud.
- 4/5
I thought the rates really good and the room was big
- 3/5
Claims to be a smoke free hotel but our room smelled like someone have smoked in there before.
- 5/5
Todo muy limpio
- 1/5
Filthy sheets. Rude receptionist. The only positive is they refunded my money so I could get a clean room elsewhere.
- 4/5
Loved that it was close to the boardwalk. About a half mile. The double queen rooms were not very clean. Only give you two tiny pillows per bed and they were dirty. One of the beds is literally against the A/c unit. No room to walk by. This is a great spot if you don’t plan on spending much time in the room. Oh, also the remote for the tv didn’t work.
- 5/5
Great prices and it was super close to the boardwalk
- 2/5
The room is in need of finished repairs, there are half patched holes in the walls, unpainted. Check in is a joke. No real person. Just a kiosk that is a video chat even though there is another person in the actual hotel lobby. Weirdest situation and it took forever.
- 3/5
Area was not to bad staff were super amazing super respectful and friendly the only bad part i would say is that the bedding did have some stains and smoke holes which was pretty nasty and the iron did not work at all but everything else about the hotel was pretty good!
- 1/5
I would NEVER stay here again. The staff were extremely rude and lazy. If we needed something, we had to walk down to the front desk to get it. I asked for hand towels and was given wash clothes. The room was dirty and in disrepair. There were spider webs in the corners, dirt on the floor, holes in the wall. The bathroom door didn't close all the way. There was an adjoining room with doors between the two. The locks were not sturdy and we did not feel safe. We had to barricade the door. The photos on the booking site were grossly exaggerated. The room was not what was shown. The pool area needs lots of care, the sides of the pool were cracking and rough, cut your skin if you leaned against it. Tiles were cracked. This place needs a massive repair
- 5/5
Room is clean but smells like bleach way too much my eyes hurt.
- 4/5
The "tiny golf area" with corn hole , patio arae was pleasant. The basketball court, skate park & fort wooden park just around the corner were also a nice addiction
- 1/5
The bed sags right in the middle. Grocery bags are thicker than the pillows at this hotel. The walls and floor/ceiling is paper thin. You can hear every footstep, every time someone rolls the chair around, and conversations of the people in the room next to you.
- 4/5
Clean place with a good location near the boardwalk. If you get the room with a kitchen brong your own pan and kitchen ware. Other than that pool was clean and check was easy
- 4/5
We stayed here because of the amenities. The putting green was great, cornhole was fun, the pool was cold, the hot tub was warm but no Jets were working. The beds were hard. We came to town for a doctor's appointment. It was good for just overnight and conveniently located close to our doctor's office. We would stay again for our next appointment.
- 4/5
We've stayed in Santa Cruz before and the parking at this hotel was best by far so easy no issues and easy walk to the boardwalk
- 4/5
Staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating!

Friendly and helpful staff.

Sheets wete torn,, drapes off track, toiletpaper holder broken, towel rack broken plug & switch outlet pulled away from wall. They fixed the towel rack, and sheeus, andtoilet paper holder the following morning. We did likenthe k8ng bed in one room and the queen bed in seperate room.rack
- 5/5
Really appreciate the kitchen in our room
- 3/5
The price was reasonable but I had hoped for something a little more. Lot's of creatures of the night atmosphere after dark. It was clean and quiet but they don't keep up on the maintenance of the rooms.
- 1/5
Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. They wanted us to check-in through a kiosk even though there was someone at the front desk & the kiosk didn’t even work. Our room looked like it was half a**ed cleaned, paint on the walls was half a**ed, wires hanging out of the wall. I had to fix the tv myself because it wasn’t working and the cords weren’t even connected. The sheets on one of the beds were stained, the towels were stained. I didn’t even want to dry my body or face with them so I used one of our own shirts. We felt gross having to sleep in the bed. We think this hotel is a place where prostitutes hang out. There was a girl who asked if I saw her friend come out of the room next door from us. This girl was wearing heels & riding a scooter all around the hotel looking into the windows. When we asked for extra towels, there was just a random dude dressed in regular clothes knocking on our door. He wasn’t wearing any hotel attire, just a hoodie, jeans and a hat. How am I supposed to know this guy was a legit worker. We were so disgusted we asked for a refund on our second night & we got the heck outta there. Thank you to hotels.com for getting our money back. Almost $300 a night! I’ll spend the extra $100 to stay at the best western. Do yourself a favor & don’t stay here. I don’t expect it to be a Hilton or ritz Carlton, but at least have some standards.
- 4/5
Needed to be cleaned a little better
- 3/5
Good: This hotel was half the price of any other hotel near the beach. Easy walk to beach and downtown restaurants/shops. Front desk staff were courteous and helpful. Room (239) was pretty clean except for used soap bar still in shower from last guest. Bed was comfortable and TV received at least a dozen channels. Neighborhood is a bit sketchy but car did not get broken into overnight in parking lot, hurray. Bad: Room air conditioning was not working and it was a very hot & humid weekend (the fan worked though). Parking lot and stairs are filthy with litter and chewed gum stuck everywhere. No balcony and the view out the window was just the side of another building, but I don't really care about that. Overall: decent if you're trying to save money and don't expect perfection. Of course it still cost twice as much as it should have, but that's true everywhere.
- 1/5
It is a great location. Steps away from everything.
- 5/5
Great room
- 1/5
Front desk was on his phone(speaker) and was insisting i provide phone number and card information. Pool was in decent shape. Didnt feel comfortable with kids
- 5/5
Great family friendly property. Enjoyed the closeness to the Santa Cruz boardwalk.
- 3/5
Definitely been upgraded. The room i was in had a big fridge and stove which was cool but nothing to cook with which i didn't need anyways. Kinda felt like there was alot of regulars staying long term. Those people's vibe didn't feel inviting but maybe that was just me feeling wierd by myself.
- 3/5
Only down side is that the parking is completely not adequate for the amount of rooms. Had to park 4 blocks away.
- 3/5
The internet and cable tv was terrible.
- 5/5
Very decent
- 5/5
Very cool online service interaction between check in guy! Great time great place!
- 3/5
Unexpected thing: dog friendly but needed to pay an extra $89 for our 10lb dog. Not good things: Noise from the room above was loud. I thought they were stomping on the floor but different guests the following night sounded the same. Perhaps this is remedied by getting a room upstairs. Our room was unfortunately located near the check in kiosk so we heard every check in that occurred when we were in our room. The shower curtain rod is placed so high that the shower curtain is ineffective for keeping water off the floor. The bathroom window shade is very difficult to raise and lower. The hair dryer is also mounted too high (I’m 5’7”) and it’s not mounted securely. I would not stay here again.
- 1/5
False Advertising, as WiFi was intermittent; TV was bad with the upper portion granulated with glitches; and there was no bath plug for my kids to bathe. We also paid extra for a kitchen With No Kitchen Supplies. Who travels with pots, pans, spatulas, etc. And when asked to remedy these issues on multiple occasions, I was literally told, “We are just a 2 star hotel sir”. Never Again.
- 1/5
The only good thing about this hotel is that it is close to the boardwalk. Otherwise it is rundown and dirty. You check in with a screen and a person obviously no where near to the motel. I would not recommend staying there at all!!!
- 4/5
The Internet was very slow. It would be nice to have continental breakfast included. The towels were stained. Clean but stained. We had to request a replacement. And we still got stained towels.

Dirty scratched up walls, stained sheets and blankets, belongings from homeless people throughout parking lot, curtains ripped and dirty. No security. People parting and knocking walls and windows until 4am. Cussing and slamming doors, really loud thumping music.
- 2/5
Pool area was only nicething about this hotel.. Afternoon front desk attendant was rude and not helpful. Our tv was not working and after telling us he would come by to check it out he never did. They have kitchens with no pans, pot holders, utensils. Who travels with pans and plates? I would not recommend or ever stay there again.
- 5/5
My apologies to the cleaning staff for not leaving a tip in the room for them.
- 4/5
The area itself isn't the nicest but the hotel rooms themselves aren't bad. the only real downside is it seems they have more hotel rooms than parking spaces, so there were times we would get back by 11pm and there would be no parking spaces available at the hotel, so we would have to find parking on the streets around the hotel.
- 4/5
The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. It was conviently located and met our needs. We did have a difficult time parking each night and ended up having to park on a residential street a couple bocks away.
- 1/5
We immediately left after seeing our room.
- 3/5
On the whole it was a good value and good location. Walking distance to everything you need if you’re there for the beach boardwalk. Appreciated the free parking, just know that if you move and return later you might not get a spot. Also, the indoor pool and spa was a big plus. The downside, it is very noisy. The walls are thin and we could hear everything the people next door were saying and their conversation went on well past midnight. The people above us sounded as though they were remodeling the place. This too went on well past what I would have thought to be a reasonable time. Perhaps not the owners fault, but the implementation or enforcement of a “quiet hours” might help. That said, because of the location and the price I’d lean toward staying again…would just be sure to bring my earplugs and request an upstairs room.
- 3/5
Looked really cloudy and dingy . It should be for guests that pay for rooms only. Dirty rooms, unsafe location
- 5/5
Great stay! Close to boardwalk. Safe area.
- 5/5
We liked the pool area and the short driving distance from the boardwalk. We especially liked that the room had 3 Queen beds to accommodate us all.
- 5/5
Its was convenient and short walk to the board walk
- 3/5
The staff was great and the property is located in a good area, close to the beach. The bed however was super uncomfortable and
- 1/5
Poor service, flickering light in light that seems to be falling out of the ceiling, deeply stained towels, dysfunctional bathroom, coffee was OK.
- 5/5
Parking was full when I came in late but the staff accommodated and allowed me to park in a safe place not usually designated for parking in the lot. Easy going friendly staff. Great prices. Thank you
- 2/5
Afternoon I’m sure this is probably more common in motels that I no but your property has roaches. I stayed at this facility before earlier this year and I did not encounter any problems with bugs but sadly on this day I killed 1 adult and 5 baby roaches. Bugs and mistakes do happen but I do not know if I will give SURF CITY another chance
- 5/5
Perfect for large families walking distance to the beach and boardwalk
- 2/5
Room was filthy. Mirror was dirty and floors were sandy
- 1/5
Room was dirty, shower didn’t get more than lukewarm, bedding had multiple cigarette burns and stains, ceiling had stains, hair all over the floor and towels were stained and threadbare. Pictures were deceiving. Hotel looked nice but it was not nice and gross.

Parking is an issue. Towels were damp. Too much noise all night long.

This property is clean, convenient, and accommodating to large groups.
- 4/5
It was good.

Our room was covered in dog piss and when we opened the door initially a wave of Bleach odor poured out of the room.
- 2/5
Had 2 rooms booked. Told person at check in which room we were taking as other was for son, he charged us for sons at $140 more..... we'll never see that money again.
- 1/5
Paper thin walls. Staid up all night to a couple beating each other up all night.
- 4/5
Great spot if visiting the beach boardwalk. Very convenient walking distance. Perfect for one or two nights. Affordable for Santa Cruz.
- 2/5
The bathroom was dirty! There was pee in the toilet(was not flushed or clean) no toilet paper. Extremely noisy and no parking.
- 4/5
The room was clean, but the bathroom wall had chips and it needed some paint, the towel holder kept falling out,and there were plenty of towels in the room and they provided towels for the pool, the pool and jacuzzi were clean,
- 2/5
The sink had barely any water pressure, making it hard to use. The floors were sticky and didn’t feel clean at all. On top of that, the guest staying above me was walking around and talking loudly until almost 2 a.m., which made it difficult to sleep. I also requested extra towels, but the receptionist told me that the laundry room was closed and they didn’t have access to any more towels. This was really frustrating and not what I would expect from a hospitality business. Overall, this stay was not very comfortable or restful. Would only recommend as a last resort.
- 3/5
One tv channel and they had cockroachs
- 4/5
I wish they would have served continental breakfast with coffee but there were places close by. Otherwise a very good place to stay
- 5/5
Close to The Beach action
- 4/5
The room was nice but smelled so strong of cleaning fumes when we arrived, super STRONG.The pillows were terrible. Next time I’ll bring my own!
- 5/5
Friendly staff
- 4/5
We liked that it was close to the boardwalk. It was clean and well equipped. We liked the pool and spa. The TV was not working in our room and we used the chat to communicate our needs and an attendant came quickly to fix the problem.
- 4/5
Great location, cozy rooms with kitchen available. Only downside to our stay was the cable was not working well and with the kitchen they don’t supply dishes, utensils or dish soap etc. other than that we enjoyed the pool/hot tub and mini golf/cornhole on site! We’ll definitely book again!
- 5/5
Loved the indoor pool and hot tub. So spacious
- 4/5
What a great little property! Location is everything… Close to the boardwalk and wharf for an affordable price. The indoor pool was great and we loved that there was a hot tub too. 3 beds as a family of 5 was fantastic. The rooms were nice and modern.
- 2/5
Liked it because it had an indoor pool, and a jacuzzi, but sheets were dirty on one of the beds, and was unfortunately it was late to notified front desk.

Love the convenience and location along with the year round pool and hot tub.

Nice, everything was good. The only thing was that the snacks in the lobby could only be purchased either by using Zelle or cash

Staff is awesome love the big spa and it's a family atmosphere definitely it's close the boardwalk and beach and fair prices too considering the location. I recommend it to my friends and family even to people I don't know all the time !! Great price ,rooms and staff can't beat that !! Ps they also have a kiosk so you can get any room anytime if available that is .
- 3/5
The hotel is great. Didn’t care for the kiosk check in as women traveling with my child. Didn’t feel safe saying my phone number email and vehicle information out loud outside where anyone can hear.
- 5/5
Great hotel has a separate room for second bed never seen that before it was wonderful and the pool area hot tub was awesome will stay again
- 5/5
Perfect locatation and kind of dirty also. Homeless outside, kind of a party hotel. Short walk to the boardwalk. Lots of gnats in the room. You get what you pay for. Id stay again.

Pool was full and spa was full of chlorine. Made everyone eyes hurt. To many people in a small pool
- 5/5
AK was very nice! Rooms were in good condition and clean.
- 1/5
Property is false advised. There was people all around trying to get into my room with my family there. Music loud all night. Putty on the wall, stains on sheets and curtains. I told them I was not staying for two nights. They said only the manager can authorize a refund and he wasn’t there. I then left the next morning and checked out. They lied to Expedia and stated I was still in the room when I clearly left. I called the hotel to ask why they lied and they began to say they thought I was there and checked out this morning. I request the manager information and they refused to give it out and stated he was curtains on sick leave. Got rude and then hung up in my face. Terrible place
- 3/5
Pretty much what you would expect out of a 2star hotel. Grounds were clean, hot tub need some TLC. Jets did not work and it was REALLY dirty! There were five of us in the room but they only put two towels. One towel was stained badly. Beds were not the best but again, two Star hotel. Rooms were clean.
- 5/5
Got this room at the very last minute and was pleasantly surprised with how nice it was!
