Reviews
The hotel is in a prime location, close to the beach and various shops and restaurants. However, the property is old and in need of updates, with common complaints including thin walls, noisy surroundings, and outdated rooms and amenities. Some staff were praised for being friendly and helpful, while others were criticized for being rude or unhelpful.

This is a very old hotel. The rooms are bare-bones. The air conditioning was hard to adjust. The bathroom sink was older than me and I’m 83. The shower had little water pressure. It went all of a sudden to ice cold. Then it would be ok. Then it would be burning hot. All this without touching dials. The safe would not open after my combo was set. Staff tried but still got error message. Had to wait til following morning for the head maintenance man to tell them where the master key was. No hair dryer on arrival in room. No amenities except Keurig. Just rooms. All that said, the staff was pleasant, the price reasonable, and the location fantastic.
- 4/5
But the location and staff were amazing!!
- 5/5
Super family-friendly & accessible to major highways and attractions! 35 minutes from Universal Studios and Hollywood Sign, Walk of Fame plus so much more…not to mention minutes from Santa Monica Pier. We definitely will be back!
- 1/5
Hotel Carmel was not as nice or clean as advertised on the website. First of all, the showers were dirty and had mold in them. In addition, the sink was cracked. I would also like to add that the room smelled like pee. Lastly, in order to turn on the AC, I had to turn on the fuse that had a warning on it that said it was a danger and could be a cause of electrocution. I was supposed to stay for 2 nights, but I left immediately the next morning after 1 night. They did not want to give me a refund for the night I stayed even though it was gross. Don’t stay here if you care about cleanliness.
- 5/5
The staff is super friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay again.
- 4/5
We booked through Hotels.com. When we arrived there was lots of confusion about our reservation and whether we had paid or not. Hotel Carmel charged by card and then refunded me when I showed my receipt from the booking. As I checked out the following day the guy at the desk told me he charged my card again and was again going to reverse it.
- 3/5
The rooms are clean but no Refrigerator or microwave. Other than that it's a good room.
- 1/5
Hello is very old outdated carpet smell n look very dirty great location tho
- 4/5
The location of this place was the best part was close to everything and walking distance to good shopping the pier and the beach
- 4/5
I don't like all this throw away cups, product and packaging
- 2/5
But the smell in the hall way and the room are really strong
- 2/5
Un hotel simple y viejo
- 4/5
Nice to stay.. near the Santa Monica..
- 5/5
Great little spot close to everything. We loved our stay there.
- 4/5
Second time staying there. Staff was nice except for one man who got angry because we had a blanket in the hall while we were sweeping out our room. Other than that it was nice. Wish they had at the least a microwave in the room.
- 4/5
Soap Dispenser in Shower/Tub did not work; also mildew around both containers. Outlet in bathroom would not work for hairdryer. Appeared either paint or mortar was in outlet. I did let front desk know when I checked out.
- 4/5
This is the place to staff for incredible location close to Santa Monica beach & pier. The other attraction is all of the bars and restaurants you can easily get to on foot. Location was number one and we didn’t spend much time in the hotel. It’s an old hotel and the room smelled a bit stale. But it was clean and did the trick.
- 4.5/5
Beach, restaurants, parking...all convenient The handles on our dress clanked when you walked on the floor.
- 5/5
Staff are friendly and welcoming.
- 5/5
Wad a very pleasant stay, front desk super nice and valet just call down and your vehicle is waiting or just walk a few minutes to the beach... perfect!
- 2/5
Very noisy on Saturday night. Impossible to sleep.
- 5/5
Friendly people , not much amenities, but quite place and close to the beach and other entertainment. Safe area to walk around
- 5/5

Great place loved the staff and location
- 3/5
Older property but clean and great location.
- 5/5
great stay!
- 5/5
Loved Hotel Carmel. It’s older but that’s what makes it special. The staff was so helpful and always knew who we were! Very clean.
- 5/5
Excellent location and staff , pretty if slightly older hotel and good value
- 5/5
Yes
- 4/5
The staff are very kind. The feel is very old school nostalgia and funky Bohemian. The location is superb, easy walk to the pier/beach. The hotel has a list of local places with discounts for guests. Walking distance to Trader’s Joes and Target so that item that is forgotten can be easily replaced. Plus if you prefer to save budget it’s possible to get groceries. The parking is costly though secure and while there are less expensive options if car isn’t needed much during stay the offsite location has greater security than the nearby public pay lots.
- 4/5
Great location, clean and tidy. Older style but well kept, convenient and comfortable. Parking close by at public parking.
- 4/5
The hotel itself has an older charm, and while some features felt a bit dated, everything was kept very clean and neat. The room was comfortable, and the property overall felt well maintained. The biggest downside was the noise level inside the hotel. You could hear nearly every footstep from the room above, and the walls and ceilings didn’t seem to block much sound. Street and traffic noise from outside was noticeable as well, although it honestly wasn’t as disruptive as the noise coming from neighboring rooms and overhead. Overall, it’s a solid choice if you value location, cleanliness, and friendly service, especially for walking around Santa Monica, but lighter sleepers may want to bring earplugs.
- 5/5
The location was perfect for the price. The staff was friendly, the room stayed cold. I will definitely be staying here again next time I'm in town. The only complaints I have are that there were no curtains to block early morning sunrise and did not have a fridge in my room. Other than that, everything else was great.
- 2/5
First thing we noticed was the dead bugs by the window. We had to go downstairs and ask the front desk for ice. Two out of the five nights we got this lady who was so rude and told us that if we wanted ice we should try coming down at a reasonable time. The sheets had a nasty stain on them.
- 3/5
Definitely a great location rooms are small and outdated but overall not bad for a one night stay.
- 4/5
Front desk staff always polite, helpful and quick to respond regarding any queries. Room was a good size but would feedback the bathroom could do with being a bit more modern.
- 3/5
Great location and reasonably priced old hotel
- 5/5
Great!
- 4/5
There was sidewalk repair going on in front of, and around hotel - not to the fault of the hotel. Motel is a bit dated, but very clean. Small rooms, but location is great !
- 5/5
Friendly staff, awesome location, have refrigerators if you ask for one.
- 4.5/5
Nice and clean staff were very accommodating, let me check in early and stored our luggage after check out time! Provided water each day.
- 1/5
Friendly staff Pretty disappointed. Poor location, very busy street and poor noise cancellation from windows. Rooms and entire establishment was very outdated. Bedding had stains as well as some of the towels. Ventilation was poor in the rooms as well. The outdoor area does not feel safe at night. Would not stay here again and would recommend traveler's to stay somewhere else. Unfortunately this area of Santa Monica is no longer safe regardless if it is considered beach front.
- 4/5
The staff at this small hotel were very nice and helpful. Hotel is in a great location just a block away from the beachfront and super close to lots of restaurants and shops. Our only complaint was the stiff mattress. Like all hotels around the area, you’re going to hear some street traffic and lights. However, we would stay here again based on the location and friendly staff.
- 3/5
Great location but definitely not quiet
- 5/5
The location is awesome. Can literally walk to anywhere. I achieved 20,000 + steps per day. The room design is exotic, love the blue/greenish color, the bed is comfy. Bathroom is clean and easy to use. The only issue is the noise. I could hear foot steps from above floor, also phone buzzing noise from the next room. One way to solve is to prepare travel earplugs. Can leave the luggages at the hotel free of charge. Overall, a wonderful stay!
- 2/5
The view was a disgusting courtyard full of mechanical things. There were no amenities Staff was polite and valet parking was good.
- 1.5/5
The staff was welcoming and respectful. The quality of room. It’s simple. Whoever makes decisions on how to make a room welcoming, decided to take plenty of shortcuts. The AC/Heat/Fan was not operational. The lightbulbs that worked, were the cheapest bright white lights, so it felt like a classroom. The bathroom door does not shut, so no privacy with guest. The pillows were the $4 ones you get from Walmart. Apart from that, flooring and walls are thin. The room felt like it was remodeled after the Second World War. When the most charming part of a room is opening the window to look out onto the street, there may just be a cause to make some adjustments. I would recommend whoever owns the spot, to stay a few hours in the room I was in, and ask themselves if they HONESTLY feel like it is worth $300US a night. To be fully honest on my end, I left. I went and stayed somewhere else. The room was so warm and the people above me might as well have been in the room with me. Why didn’t I complain and have room changed? Because you shouldn’t have to at a decent hotel, and who knows what room they would put me in after. That being said, the guy that checked me in was solid. And the woman working as utility clerk that held the door when I was coming in was super kind. Thank you to those two.
- 1/5
I immediately reported the issue, and the person at the front desk was very helpful and said he would provide me with a full refund. I came downstairs upset and said a few things out of frustration, and to their credit, they could have asked me to leave, but the staff understood the situation and provided me with another room. Again, the staff was very nice and handled the situation professionally, but after this experience, I will not be staying there again. Thank you, and good luck.
- 1/5
Only reason I booked here is because Expedia rated this property 8.8 of 10. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful through the whole situation, but I was greeted by a handful of small cockroaches immediately when I opened my room door! They did give me a full refund but it was definitely disgusting
- 4/5
Loud from upstairs rooms.
- 5/5
The staff were very helpful and professional. Anastasia greeted me upon checking and was so awesome. Thank you for such amazing energy and awesome customer service. I will stay again.
- 5/5
- 5/5
Parking was not free but due to the location it was worth it.....The employees ALL OF THEM were very nice and helpful. I woukd stay there again.
- 3.5/5
breakfast options
- 4.5/5
Very convenient location. The hallway and room had a very weird odor. Hard to charge phones. Plugs did not work.
- 4.5/5
Location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Attractive lobby and a warm, cozy feel overall. Close to good restaurants and just a block to the beach promenade I was moved to a spacious ADA room as I needed grab bars in the shower. Unfortunately, the bed and chairs were uncomfortably low for me. A tradeoff.
- 3/5
It is a small hotel with limited amenities. Just your average stay. I would go for another hotel next time.
- 4/5
Proximity to my friends staying at the Pierside.
- 5/5
staff are very nice and very respectful. the property is definitely a lot older/aged and the room wasn’t bad for the price and location
- 5/5
The hotel itself is older, but it was clean and well maintained. The bed was comfortable, which made for a good night’s sleep after busy days exploring the area. Overall, no complaints at all. If you’re looking for a clean, comfortable place in a fantastic location, Hotel Carmel is a great choice.
- 4/5
The staff was amazing.
- 3/5
But the property is very old and the common areas didn’t smell too fresh. The rooms were very basic and felt like a bedroom at an old house vs a hotel room. The bathroom and shower seemed clean. There was a counter right above the toilet tank lid where the flusher was located. There wasn’t much clearance between the counter and flusher so it was very cumbersome and awkward to squeeze my finger in the gap to flush the toilet. The shower water pressure was extremely low and the water temperature constantly fluctuated between hot and cold while I was showering. I couldn’t wait to get home to have a proper shower. The location is central and convenient. The Saturday farmers market is only two blocks away and Third Street Promenade is just around the corner (although many stores were vacant and it is no longer vibrant like it used to be). It is a couple of blocks from the beach.
- 5/5
Great location, clean, friendly staff
- 3/5
bad water pressure. ac unit is not great. pillows are not comfortable.
- 4/5
Parking was good and reasonably priced.
- 5/5
The staff is amazingly friendly, efficient and happy to be working there. There was a younger man as I checked in, who was very enthusiastic and cheerful and the young Filipino lady was just a delight to talk to and very helpful in checking out and finding transportation. Great value.
- 5/5
ALL of the hotel staff (front desk, manager, valets, maintenance, housekeeping) that I met during my stay, from mid-day to late evening (I’m not a morning person) were SUPER helpful, kind and empathetic. I cannot thank them enough for their assistance during my stay (April 23-29/26, Room 430). It truly felt like a home away from home with the staff the community. My stay was unusual (cleared out a local locker, locker contents was delivered to my room) and they were all accommodating with this challenge of mine. A couple of minor issues: TV needed maintenance to fix it twice, coffee maker was defective, housekeeping switched it out, hotel cards were very sensitive to credit cards/cellphone, so I needed replacements several times I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Santa Monica. It will be my only choice when I come back. Thanks again to Elina, Diana, Francisco, Roderick (?) and all the staff! I wish I remembered everyone’s names.
- 2/5
This hotel is older. First the positives. It was clean and the room itself was somewhat updated. The elevator was so small you cannot fit more than 2 people in it. Hallway carpeting looks to be about 30 years old and the stairs were very narrow. The bathroom was clean but exceptionally small. The toilet flushed on the top but you could barely reach the button because there was wood over the top. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE.
- 5/5
The hotel was nice and clean, front desk upgrades our room and pushed back our check out.
- 5/5
The workers were very sweet and amazing!!!! Genuinely had amazing conversations with them
- 4/5
Great stay experience and location. I wish the room had a small refrigerator.
- 5/5
I've stayed at Hotel Carmel a few times now and every time, it's been great! It's in a central area located just a few minutes walk from pretty much anything! It's just a few minutes from the Promenade or a few minutes from the pier. It's a great hotel to stay in!
- 5/5
Small but clean room and convenient location.
- 2/5
Property is old and have a weird smell, you have to pay for parking
- 3/5
Staff was nice and generous with providing bottled water. Great location - near the Santa Monica pier and beach and to restaurants and shops.
- 4/5
Easy check in and out, very clean
- 2/5
Great location, elevator broke down as we were waiting for it, was told had to pay double for parking as we didn’t rent directly through them. Parking was $11 up the road ( where they parked it, and charged us $52) we asked for late checkout paid the $93 fee which was a different price when I went down to pay it started at $65 but went up in the 5 mins I came back and a different staff member. Then was locked out of our room, as they hadn’t told the rest of the staff we had paid for late checkout. But it was clean, and location was awesome.
- 1/5
This hotel was awful! I wouldn't recommend it. The smell was horrible and the ac in our room genuinely sounded like a broken propeller on an airplane. It was so loud that my husband couldn't sleep.
- 4/5
Great location walking distance to many restaurants, shops, beach and pier.
- 5/5
Love the staff.
- 4/5
Good
- 2/5
We checked in and the front desk staff was on an FaceTime call the entire time. We were put in a single queen bed room. After stating we booked a double, we were told they would upgrade us. Not sure why we wouldn’t get what we booked and prepaid for. When we got there they charge a resort fee. Not sure why because this hotel has no resort amenities. The lobby is tiny. There are no amenities there. The beds in the hotel squeak with every move. You can hear people walking above you. The AC unit is turned on by a breaker box. The water pressure is a trickle and the hot water is well warm at best. They don’t even give you an option to park anywhere else. Come to find out they use a parking a garage near the hotel which they paid $10 for and charged us $41. Day 2 and the manager was having a heated discussion with an employee in the lobby. Super uncomfortable. If you are looking for a place to just sleep, then it may be perfect for you. But if you are looking for a resort type hotel this is very basic and definitely not worth the price we paid. This was $75-$100 quality vs the $360 they charged with the resort fee and valet parking. More of a city vibe than a beach hotel.
- 3/5
The hotel itself is need of a revamp was very dated The aircon in our sounded like an old diesel engine But once I told reception about this an engineer was sent .The problem couldn’t be fixed so was given another room. Overall if you want a no frills hotel with a good location to Santa Monica pier area this would be ideal
- 3/5
Parking was easy and there was a garage right next door as well. The staff was all nice and friendly. There was an odd odor of kitty litter from the elevator and most of the common areas. Once inside the room, our bed had an awful squeak any tome you sat on it or moved. Our room also backed directly to an alley so you heard noises all throughout the night. We had loud upstairs neighbors so all in all it made for a very restless night of sleep. The photos make it look a lot nicer than what you get.

- 4/5
It was nice and very friendly hotels
- 2/5
Small room
- 5/5
It was clean and in a great location
- 3/5
Okay
- 4/5
Recommend staying here for location, price and cleanliness
- 5/5
This is charming hotel in the center of Santa Monica, every kind of dining is a step away from the front door. And the famous pier is a short walk. The bed was very comfortable with ample blankets and what not. The ceiling fan was perfect.
- 4/5
Great location. Basic, old-time hotel--just fine for our stay. Valet service is helpful.
- 5/5
The room is clean everyday. They change all the towels and all. The only thing is, they don’t have parking area. But the staff are all good. I’ll be back.
- 4/5
The eatery, Bright Side is an excellent stop. Open for breakfast and lunch and the food is delicious and a very friendly staff. The room was very plain and no in-room fridge. Had to take ice bucket to the kibble to be filled. Sharp loby and attentive car valet.
- 5/5
Everything was fantastic!! Employees were amazing. I’d definitely book this place again and it is close by the beach.
- 5/5
Best location
- 4/5
Great location and clean room, I only wish it had a mini fridge.
- 5/5
Hôtel très bien entretenu
- 5/5
Muito bem localizado. Limpo. E a equipe e otima
- 5/5
I had a great stay! The staff was wonderful and the bed was comfortable. The location is perfect.
- 3/5
Meh
- 5/5
Excellent staff
- 3/5
No breakfast. Weird smell in hallways, probably smell of cleaning solution
- 5/5
Good clean hotel. Great staff. Would recommend staying here again.
- 5/5
The parking worked very well and the housekeeping staff did a very good job
- 5/5
Great location
- 5/5
Safe, clean, conveniently located ,older hotel hotel
- 4/5
The convenience was excellent! It is an older hotel and the rooms are small, bathroom small as well. The vallet staff was really nice. The elevator went down twice while we stayed. I have really bad knees and had to go up and down stairs which are incredibly steep.
- 3/5
The location, staff and valet parking were great! My only criticism was an odd smell in the room, different from the heavy scent in the lobby. It made me wonder what they were trying to cover up. When I got home and opened my suitcase my clothes smelled after only a one night stay. I should have asked for a different room.
- 3/5
Old building but close to everything
- 5/5
Clean room, not very updated, served its purpose.
- 5/5
Very nice staff, clean room. No complaints
- 3/5
Clean rooms; easy access to stores, beach and pier. Valet parking made our rental car smell like weed. Shower curtain holder kept falling off, it fell off, even after they fixed it once and the TV reception was super glitchy.
- 1.5/5
Location good. Convenient breakfast diner at ground level. Staff was indifferent, common areas dirty and unkempt, sticky dirty carpets in the corridors. My window was blocked by fake greenery that was concealing a central court filled with loud mechanical equipment. Place smelled on cleaning products. Extremely bad noise transmission through walls and from corridor.
- 5/5
Excellent staff. Rooms. Amenities. Location. All perfect. Definitely will stay again.
- 5/5
Staff was amazing! The property was old but it was cute! Not a lot of aminites but there was lots of places in walking distance
- 5/5
The front desk staff - particularly Dianna, were extremely helpful and accommodating. Valet was offered and always prompt. And I felt all my needs were met with a high standard. There was nothing about this property that I considered distasteful.
- 5/5
Great location! The hotel is closed to Santa Monica pier and 3rd street promenade. It was clean and the staff was very friendly
- 3/5
The location is what makes staying here worth it. It’s a bare minimum hotel. A room with two beds and barely any extra room to do anything else. Bringing any type of meal back to the room was tricky figuring out where/how to eat. We basically eat in our beds. Not a terrible experience, but I would stay somewhere else if I were to come back.
- 4/5
Very friendly staff, very clean, great service, great location…right by the beach and third street promenade. Overall good experience.
- 5/5
Staff was very and kind. Got us in and ready for our stay right away. On site valet was definitely a plus and made our itinerary easier to work around.
- 3/5
Very small room. Bathroom flooded a bit (was a quick fix). Just know it’s only expensive because of the location. Other than that, it’s def a 2/3 star hotel.
- 5/5
The staff is what really made this stay stand out. So kind and alway available. From the front desk to the valet drivers each and every one were wonderful! Would definitely stay here again!
- 3.5/5
Run down
- 3/5
There was no air conditioning. The stairs were steep and the elevator got busy and was small.
- 3/5
Rooms were clean but i could hear walking and ceiling creaking above me, making it hard to fall asleep. It is really close to the pier and shopping centers.
- 4/5
Allowed us to do an early check in which was great.
- 2.5/5
I liked the location, 2 blocks from beach 1 block away from shopping and restaurants all over. Friendly staff. Beds were comfortable and clean. No fridge in room, shower curtain had black mold on it room 409. AC didn’t work only a fan or open window. Construction on the building across started at like 5am loud drilling etc. street cleaners also came early it was noisy. Water pressure was low, took a hot shower which turned cold at some point and then warm. Valet was slow. Had to wait 10 min-15 min to get my car. Very old building. No ice machine or amenities
- 5/5
Staff was excellent. Great location and the valet parking was a nice option. Would be nice to have a fridge in the room.
- 5/5
👍
- 5/5
Lovely hotel with kind staff and spotless rooms. I enjoyed every moment of my stay here! Wonderful!
- 5/5
I loved staying here, very convenient spot and affordable
- 5/5
Great location. Simply a room we requested a refrigerator. Its great if you plan on being at the beach and many other restaurants and stores. I highly recommend them!!!!
- 5/5
Very nice hotel with very nice staff. We stayed there before and after a cruise for a few nights on each end and really my one criticism would be that both times I had to ask for enough towels for our party. We had a suite type room with two rooms and 3 beds with 4 occupants yet they only provided us with 2 sets of towels. It happened both times we stayed there which is the only reason I mention it. It’s an inconvenience to realize you don’t have towels when you need them and the type of rooms should just automatically indicate more than 2 sets of towels are needed. The other area for implement is timing for housekeeping rooms. We got into town early and they said they’d call when our rooms were ready but they didn’t call us until after 5:30pm which check in was at 2pm I think. Another time we were gone sight seeing all day and no one came to clean our room until 4:15pm when we had come back to get ready for dinner which was very inconvenient. I would definitely recommend the hotel as it is lovely and in a great location but those couple of things I feel could be improved.
- 4/5
TV is on a dish network and never worked. Men tried fixing it, but seemed hopeless as it was a systemic fault.
- 5/5
Clean rooms and lobby. It’s an old hotel so it has that charm to it. My room did not have AC or a mini fridge but honestly it wasn’t a problem because I was just there for a few days. The staff was friendly and I felt safe.
- 5/5
The hotel was very nice, staff was very pleasant and location is great!
- 5/5
Edit: it is not really walking distance close to the beach. We walked over a concrete bridge over the very busy highway. On the way back we rented bikes/scooters to help haul our beachware back to the hotel.
- 3/5
Hotel itself is outdated but rooms were fine. WiFi was glitchy and tv has no available steaming services just cable. Walls are paper thin and you can practically hear the conversations of the rooms next door. As well as the rooms above we had a hard time sleeping becase the people above us were stomping around all night. Location is one of the only perks of the hotel.
- 1/5
The hotel smells very bad room are old
- 4/5
No bar. Plenty of parking nearby.
- 5/5
love the Carmel
- 4/5
Very nice staff. This place is perfect for exploring the beaches and enjoying the nightlife in Santa Monica.
- 1/5
I couldn’t stay
- 5/5
Clean room, great Wifi and awesome staff
- 5/5
No free parking
- 4/5
Clean room, excellent valet service - room was a little noisy from other travellers - we were on the 2nd floor and the people upstairs were quite loud stomping around their room…
- 3/5
No not satisfied it’s like a motel
- 5/5
They accommodated an early check in, hotel was clean, staff were phenomenal, location was unbeatable, valet service was convenient! Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
- 4/5
Location location! Loved being so close to the beach and pier! Public parking garage was right next door and super convenient. Cute coffee shop and smoothie place steps away. Room was small but clean. Nothing fancy but nice place to rest. Just wish they had better pillows. It’s an older property but for the price and location I’d recommend.
- 4.5/5
Great location. Friendly staff. Loved having a living room plus the bedroom. The room was a bit warm.
- 4.5/5
Location! 2 blocks to the beach and 1 block to the pedestrian mall. Tons of food and drink options with discounts from the hotel. Room was a little warm, but ceiling fan helped.
- 3/5
Good hotel for SM brach location and rates. Coffee and water included. Property is dated, but delivers what you would expect for the price.. it was OK for me - one night solo, but not for more thsan two nights or with spouse -- etc. Staff was friendly and responsive, but dont expect luxury.
- 5/5
The location was excellent close to Santa Monica pier lots of shops and restaurants
- 5/5
Close to the beach, prime location.
- 5/5
The room was very clean. The staff is wonderful and extremely helpful. Location is great for going to the Santa Monica Pier, maybe a 5 minute walk. If you are riding the hop on/hop off bus stop 57 is a 3-4 minute walk away. You will hear street noise, but not later at night.
- 4/5
It was clean, friendly and great location. The building was older though and did not have a pool or spoilage that i am accustom to. I definately would stay again.
- 5/5
Everything was perfect!
- 5/5
Lovely vintage hotel. Clean rooms & nice staff!

Excellent location, very polite and friendly staff. Lovely clean room. Very happy with our stay.
- 5/5
Clean room, friendly staff, great rate.
- 5/5
Staff was very friendly and accommodating and the beds were comfortable
- 5/5
The room was perfect. We loved this hotel, friendly, quiet and well located - close to Pier, walking distance to Venise beach
- 5/5
The location is perfect if you want to get the best of Santa Monica. I will definitely stay there again on my next trip.
- 3/5
Very noisy rooms
- 1/5
Meh. Loud and tiny
- 4/5
Clean room, great value for money.
- 5/5
Clean, friendly staff, location
- 4/5
Tremendously helpful front desk manager: unexpected street resurfacing outside my room, manager promptly switched me to other side of the building to a larger room, and waived a couple nights of destination fee; I barely finished my request for a move and she had it complete
- 3/5
We stayed one night in a double room. I personally would not spend more than one night there. The hotel is very old and had that old smell. The staff was friendly enough and the room was clean. The walls are super thin. We heard all the hallway noise including someone singing throughout the night while coming and going. The big perk is the location. You can't beat it. Short walking distance to everything you want to see. They charged more for valet parking since we booked through Exepdia. All in all 5/5.
- 3/5
Check I staff was great. The room was just ok
- 5/5
Everything was good
- 5/5
Location, cleanliness, Valet parking and friendliness of the staff.
- 4/5
Great place with a nice staff.
- 3/5
TV didn’t work and couldn’t be fixed. My room was not made up, even though I did not hang a do not disturb tag on my door.
- 5/5
Hotel very clean and very close to Santa Monica Pier. The bed was super comfy. Staff friendly gave us recommendations for meals and coupons for near by restaurants. They also provided us with a map of the area. Would stay here again.
- 5/5
Nice rooms, very clean. Location was excellent
- 4/5
Great staff. Expensive parking but it’s nice to know your car is being kept safe. Very well located for walking to restaurants and access to 3rd Street Promenade I’m very happy. Thank you Hotel Carmel!!
- 5/5
Great customer service and clean room.
- 5/5
Our room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. While our stay was brief, it was a great location for us. We would stay there again.
- 3/5
Water pressure in the shower was really low. Also maybe curtains to block the light at night.
- 5/5
Charming boutique hotel in historical downtown Santa Monica near the pier, beach, shops, and dining. Rooms were clean. Staff was welcoming and knowledgeable about our the area. 5 stars.
- 5/5
Check in Front desk was fast and employees were welcoming. Valet was fast. Room was clean, no hangers in the room closet.
- 5/5
The lady at the front desk was kind and helpful
- 5/5
Staff courteous always .
- 5/5
Good staff. Very clean room. The location in Santa Monica is ideal. Close to the beach and also the 3rd St. shopping promenade.
- 4/5
Hotel is great, just dated which we understand is the area
- 5/5
Lovely reception! Great location! Thank You !
- 5/5
Room was very clean. And the staff where supurb
- 1/5
Very Run down hotel... creepy.
- 5/5
Friendly staff.
- 1/5
I booked the first night through Expedia, which stated that valet parking was $25. This information was false—the hotel charges $45 per night if you book through Expedia or booking.
- 5/5
No fridge in room and poor attitude at reception
- 5/5
Clean, affordable, centrally located, family-owned (not corporate). What more could you ask for? A+ highly recommended.
- 3/5
Very basic and limit conditions like elevator.
- 4/5
Hotel Carmel is my go to when I visit Santa Monica beach. The location is great; great services by super friendly staffs. Although the rooms are not big and fancy, but it's clean as expected. I would return.
- 5/5
Great. room was clean and neat. Staff was friendly on check in and throughout the stay.
- 4/5
Good location, clean room. Our 2nd floor room faced onto 2nd Street and was noisier than expected even with the window closed.
- 3/5
The staff was great. The pillows were uncomfortable, the shower head wasn't great (but the water pressure was good), there was no wifi for 2 out of 3 nights, the sheets and towels are dingy, and there is no fridge in the room
- 5/5
Great location and price.
- 5/5
A little gem in the heart of Santa Monica. Staff was incredible. Place is clean. Valet parking.
- 5/5
Excellent location, central to town beach and pier. Room clean but cold, we had to use heating, friendly staff. No bar or restaurant.
- 5/5
The hotel was clean comfortable and I a great walkable location.
- 5/5
Everything is good
- 3/5
Staff was amazingly helpful. Valet parking was steep considering parking was also charget at nearby lot for a few hours. Hallways had a very old smell but room was nice.
- 5/5
Staff is amazing
- 4/5
The location was perfect close to the beach and the pedestrian shopping area. Room was clean and staff was very friendly. Also convenient valet parking.
- 3/5
The location was excellent and very close to the pier, which we really appreciated. However, there was a noticeable odour in the hallway leading to the room, possibly from the carpet, and a mild odour inside the room as well. It would also be helpful to have a kettle and complimentary bottled water in the room. Additionally, installing a couple of hooks behind the bathroom door would be a practical improvement. Thanks.
- 5/5
Best regards from Florida.
- 5/5
Everything was comfortable. We had everything we needed.
- 5/5
Super cute rooms, family friendly, valet parking, close to shops and beaches, hospitable and sweet staff
- 4/5
Great location, helpful staff
- 5/5
cute little spot for a staycation
- 5/5
Clean room
- 3/5
This hotel felt more like motel in the photos it looks very nice but in reality it was not good at all the room was extremely small and over priced
- 5/5
The staff was friendly, the room was comfortable and clean and the location was great.
- 5/5
The staff was fantastic. Very kind and helpful. It is in a great location.
- 2/5
The area around the hotel is amazing obviously. Plenty of good places to eat (HIGHLY recommend Sampa's Pizza Cafe). My problem and my partner's problem was that our room smelled like diapers. Inexplicably. Every time we entered our room we were hit with the smell of diapers. (327 I think) On top of that, the room is tiny, and is much akin to a motel 7. Or 8. Whichever is worse honestly. The experience was SO jarring because the night before we had stayed in a nearby Hilton and it was cheaper but so so so much better. This hotel is made to farm tourists for money though. I understand it's not for me. So for that I give a 3/5.
- 3/5
Very friendly staff and convenient location for walking. The room and amenities are quite old, though. Also quite loud at night from nearby bar.
- 5/5
Great location
- 5/5
yes
- 5/5
Yes. Everything was great
- 4/5
Clean room and friendly staff only complaint was a repair man tried to enter the room while we were still in the room.
- 4/5
Awesome place
- 5/5
Rooms are very cute, beds are comfortable. Fantastic customer service.
- 5/5
No frills, has all the basics, and is in a very convenient location for the area. Service has been consistent, and recommend this hotel if you’re trying to save a few dollars compared to the hotels nearby.
- 5/5
had a wonderful time! the staff were friendly and kind and the room was really nice
- 5/5
.
- 4/5
Rooms were clean although a bit dated
- 4/5
Over all for the price, our stay was good. Clean sheets. Clean towels. Clean room. The staff was friendly. The only reason why I didn’t give them a full 5 stars is because the parking fee was not transparent, our room was pretty chilly and heater was not working, our rooms coffee machine wasn’t working either. These were minor things (for us) since we were in an out most of our stay. The location was great and I will most likely booking them again in our future visits.
- 4/5
The staff was very helpful!
- 2/5
Room feels outdated, staff was decent but everything is old, nice spot near Santa Monica pier but other than been on an hot spot everything else is bad.
- 5/5
Clean, great location, friendly staff
- 4/5
Good place to stay
- 5/5
Amazing service. Perfect spot to just walk everywhere to.
- 5/5
Staff is always available to sole any ussues my favyhotel stay
- 5/5
Love this hotel. Great location, right by the beach and great breakfast at the coffee shop on the corner.
- 5/5
Staff was very friendly and the room was clean. Would stay again.
- 5/5
Spotless
- 5/5
Great value stay, with easy access to Santa Monica beach and night life options. The room was clean and well maintained.
- 3/5
Lift entrance is too narrow and it’s so difficult to walk in with luggages and backpack which I was very struggling for this issue. My room was very comfortable and clean but it’s quite noisy during night because of central place.
- 5/5
Very nice reception
- 3/5
Yes
- 5/5
Room was clean staff were great to work with and accommodating.
- 3/5
this hotel is fine. location is good. It’s clean and in reasonably good shape. However there is a very loud disco in the same building or nearby. The music goes from 9 PM to 2 AM at night. Even with earplugs in and the air conditioner on I could hear it very clearly, and it woke me up literally shakevthe music note
- 1/5
It’s impossible to sleep given the loud music at the adjacent bar from 11AM - 2:30AM. Otherwise, it’s conveniently located. Also, the hotel doesn’t have a restaurant - but there are several good restaurants nearby.
- 5/5
Well kept hotel in an excellent location near the beach and Santa Monica pier. Boutique older hotel with very clean rooms. Staff is excellent, especially Diana at front desk and Javier at the reasonably priced Valet.
- 5/5
Perfect location to beach and town. Simple, small but clean rooms. Friendly staff.
- 3/5
nice
- 3/5
Room was small. The floor creaked when you walked and would make the dresser handles shake everytime you walk by. Bathroom and shower very tiny.
- 4/5
Facility is a little dated but overall the location and level of appointments is good value.
- 5/5
This place is great for a little getaway in Santa Monica! Cute, quaint rooms with everything you need to settle in comfortably. A short walk down to the pier, or turn the corner and you’re right in the heart of downtown. No car needed to visit here, everything is walkable and a great view at that! Foodaroumd this place is delicious and some shops near the hotel even offer hotel guests a discount. Don’t skip this spot for a place to stay
- 4/5
Great area and staff building a little dated
- 5/5
Close to shopping and the pier. Great price for the location. Clean hotel and friendly staff. I’ve stayed here 3 times for work trips and am already booking again for next year!
- 5/5
All great stuff
- 3/5
We enjoyed the hotel very much. The rooms were nice and clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We had only two concerns. #1 the water pressure the shower was poor and the temp fluctuated between very hot and very cold. This may be due to the age of the property. The other was maybe specific to our stay but it was pretty bad. We had upstairs neighbors that would walk around very loudly for extended periods of time late at night. The first night at 3am and the second night about 1. I am not a light sleeper but it woke me. I ended up calling the front desk to complain the second night as it went on for more than 30 minutes.
- 3/5
The hotel has a great location, however the sorroundings are Ghost towns, beside the pier, nothing left to do, all shops & restaurants are abandoned. I stayed there 2 nights and theres a bar close by that has karaoke nights up until 3:00 am, couldn't sleep at all.
- 3/5
Not bad. Not great.
- 5/5
Clean rooms, amazing staff, superb location
- 4/5
Great location! Walkable to so many restaurants, shopping and the pier. Staff were great and beds were comfortable. Older hotel. A little loud at night, but expected. I would stay here again
- 5/5
Hotel is in a great location. A lot to do around and everything is so close! I would definitely stay here again!!
- 5/5
Highly recommended. Great location.
- 5/5
Rooms were very nice and clean and beds were very comfortable. Staffs was very nice.
- 5/5
Very close to Santa Monica Pier as well as 3rd Street Prominade. Excellent price, too.
- 4/5
Great access to beach!
- 5/5
Close to the beach and shops, would stay again!
- 4/5
Awesome place to stay. It’s old and the hallways are quite dirty, but the staff is super nice, the location is ideal, and it’s perfect for a value stay in Santa Monica!
- 3/5
Hotel Carmel is in a great location, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our short stay; however, I don’t feel it meets the standard of a 3-star hotel and found it to be overpriced. The property is quite run-down and outdated, with an odd smell throughout, making it feel closer to a 2-star experience. It’s not a terrible place to stay, but the pricing should more accurately reflect the condition and overall offering of the hotel.
- 1/5
Rooms are soo beat up and dirty ! Elevator has to be constantly reset my daughter in law was stuck in it for 20 min they were so rude !! Please avoid this very old building pained over like a land lord special !
- 4/5
Very convenient to Santa Monica pier. Rooms clean, staff friendly and helpful
- 5/5
Place was conveniently places, near the Santa Monica Bridge, dining, and shopping. It was clean. The staff were polite, nice, & helpful. Would recommend for a stay.
- 3/5
we stayed here for one night & we were facing the main streets and it was quite noisy at night/ early in the morning with all the cars. Overall the staff were amazing we enjoyed our quick stay
- 3/5
One slow, small elevator for a 4 story building. AC by the bed blowing directly on me. Employees were all very nice.
- 5/5
Clean room but dated. Staff was nice and friendly. Comfortable room. Perfect location
- 5/5
Nice easy stay. Great location.
- 5/5
Clean rooms and staff super friendly- all the girls were nice and explained us how to use the metro - gave us the tap cards!!! I’ll be definitely back!
- 3/5
The hotel is an old building, so a few quirks like the shower didn't work well, sheets didn't fit the bed, not a great mattress, and it was extremely noisy. The staff was great, and the location can't be beat.
- 4/5
I really want to love this place. The interior of the room was clean and I really liked the decor and the space in the room was comfortable. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The AC never got below 75 in the room though, and was often hotter, which made it pretty stuffy. The location was fabulous. I walked 2 blocks to the pier to watch the sunset both nights. I enjoyed walking the beach. It was a very walkable area. The housekeeping staff was really friendly. Front desk service was nice at check in, the rest of the time it was ok but not overly attentive. The carpets on the stairs and hallways appeared dirty. Overall, the location made it with the stay.
- 2/5
Bathroom door did not close properly, leaving about a 1-2 inch gap so that when you sat on the commode, you could be seen from the outside. This necessitated holding the door closed while on the commode. The entire floor in the room had an oily feel to it, so that you could not walk around barefoot, so we had to make sure we had shoes and/or socks on. The remote stopped working, so we checked the batteries. They were corroded, so we went down and had to get another remote. One lamp didn't work. Flushing the toilet was very inconvenient as the button was under the bathroom shelf and you had to squeeze your fingers under to push it, and there was only about an inch gap to do that. If you have big hands, it would be even harder. Sometimes it wouldn't flush properly. Had two free waters in the room, but one had been opened and partially used. Air conditioning unit was noisy, and old fashioned. You could hear conversation from the next room through the bathroom vent as well.
- 5/5
Such a great vibe here!!
- 5/5
Great location
- 5/5
Everything good
- 1/5
This place is old and dingy, smelled damp and old. We took one look at room and got our money back and went somewhere else! Doesnt even deserve 2 stars!!
- 5/5
Loved proximity to so many wonderful things, helpfulness of staff, reciprocal discounts and recommendations
- 5/5
Hotel Carmel is a reasonably priced place to stay near to Santa Monica Boardwalk.
- 4/5
The hotel was built in 1926, but it has been nicely renovated. The staff is very friendly. The room temperature was less than ideal, but that was on operator error so we got that worked out for the second night. There’s a lot of street noise that carries upstairs as well as our neighbors with their screaming kids. There is old-fashioned wiring that goes through the closet to different parts of the room that leaves one wondering if it’s up to code. Valet parking is convenient, but it is $35 a night as well as a hefty tourism tax that you have to pay when you check in. Otherwise it was convenient to the beach and to shopping and dining. I would recommend this place and would probably visit again.
- 5/5
I like the location very much! And the easy access to the metro station in downtown Santa Monica which is good for people who don’t have a car! Very much enjoyed this place.
- 4/5
It was central located with easy access to the beach and all shopping areas.
- 4/5
Was very close to csulb long beach and student discount pulled me away from the chain hotels!
- 5/5
The staff at the front desk were very accommodating
- 3/5
Overall, we had a good stay. Upon arrival, we were initially placed in a room with a faulty air fan and broken AC. After bringing this to the staff’s attention, they promptly moved us to a more comfortable room. While the hallways could use some extra attention to cleanliness, the staff made up for it with their friendliness and accommodating service.
- 5/5
Amazing location, friendly staff, room and bad are very clean. The only suggestion is full length mirror and some hooks in the bathroom would really help, but it doesn’t change my rating.
- 5/5
The staff is amazing the rooms are so clean and quiet I love the fatmers matket down the street on Wednesday and Saturday… walkable to everything I wanted .. has the quaintness of old world beach hotel charm with a lovely touch of class
- 4/5
Property was nice and the staff friendly. Parking is a nightmare in the area and the poor valet was swamped but did a great job.
- 2/5
And since this hotel was build since 1948 i believed, my husband start coughing, since he has Pulmonary problem. We asked for extra sheets, we are given old yellowish sheets with blood in it that is supposed to be white sheets. The great this is the staff are very considerate to give us a refund of our stay and cancelled. Ended up going home. We were supposed to go to a wedding the following day but end up going home. As my children got scared as well on how the hotel look like. And on the way down of the hotel. My children saw 2 naked men came out of one room and went across the other room. Inspire of bad experience of the hotel. I do give the staff 5/5
- 5/5
we had a street room and was very noisy needs to be soundproofed and maybe a refurb
- 4/5
The location was perfect! Everything was so walkable and easy to get to. The staff was amazing and check in and check out was easy.
- 1/5
I had vertigo and couldn't make my trip, I asked for a refund or credit or something so I could use it when I got better, however I just got no response. Thanks!
- 5/5
Located in the heart of downtown Santa Monica, the Hotel Carmel is conveniently situated to the Santa Monica Pier, the beach, shopping and dining. The Hotel Carmel is clean, simple and reasonably priced. If you are looking for a good budget minded Hotel we highly recommend the Hotel Carmel.
- 2/5
the employes where bored and not really nice
- 4/5
Great location, good valet parking and helpful staff.
- 3/5
So although I enjoyed the hotel and the room (small but cozy) I probably won’t return because of the outside noise, unfortunately. Unless I’m guaranteed a room on the other side, which is a gamble when booking with Expedia. One more thing: I was supposed to get a king bed and there’s no way it was a king, or it was a tiny king… but that didn’t bother me much in the end, I was alone and didn’t sleep much lol.
- 5/5
It was nice
- 5/5
Super convenient location, close to the beach and the 3rd street promenade. Hotel was clean, room enough for 5 in the 2 room suite, seemed to be recently painted and new floors. I was pleasantly surprised and happy with the choice. Very reasonably priced
- 5/5
Great quality and the staff were very kind. We had a special request and they made it happen. Very close to the beach. Will be back.
- 5/5
easy walking distance to most all attractions and restuarants. very clean ...
- 4/5
Great Location!
- 5/5
Great location! Walls were thin so you could hear everything inside and outside the building. Otherwise, great stay!
- 1/5
We left within 10 minutes of entering our room and booked another hotel. Sure, the location is great -close to the beach and shops, but at what cost? The lobby had fruit flies and gnats, and the room was humid, sticky, dirty, and outdated. We felt so unclean we couldn’t imagine spending the night.
- 5/5
Great location
- 4/5
Although the hotel is a little tired, its location wins! It’s so central! The staff were also lovely and made any interaction a pleasure.
- 1/5
Awful hotel. AC didn’t work middle of the summer, damp rooms, tv didn’t work
- 5/5
I stay here every time I visit my daughter!
- 3/5
- 5/5
The valet parking was a bit expensive but extremely convenient. This hotel is about location it’s 2 blocks from the pier and very close to the mall, what else could you want, it’s not the Hilton but has its own charming appeal. I like the rooms on the west side and the front desk and we do kind to accommodate me.
- 5/5
Great location, so close to the Santa Monica pier, restaurants, shops, etc. So convenient to access from the subway….literally steps away!
- 3/5
Hotel is clean, shower worked great, check-in was easy. They have a breakfast/lunch/dinner place right next to the hotel that has good breakfast food. We wanted to go for dinner, but they close at 3:00 p.m.?? You get a discount if you show your hotel key. There is no fridge or microwave in the rooms, and if you want ice, you have to get it from the front desk. The beds in the room we had were extremely noisy and not comfortable, but we did see them putting new mattresses in some of the rooms. They say they have sound proof rooms but you could hear lots of noise from outside the room and outside the hotel. Overall, it was ok.
- 3/5
The hotel itself was great. Centrally located, so there was a lot of people traffic. We were woken up several times in the middle of the night from people outside, presumably walking home from bars. It’s a great place to stay, but I would not stay here again if I wanted a decent night sleep.
- 4/5
Great location. Room was clean but nothing special. Bed was not very comfortable.
- 4/5
The staff was incredibly wonderful, and helpful, and caring. I don’t think the establishment was worth the money we spent. The room was small and looked like a motel. The AC was loud.
- 5/5
Very nice
- 4/5
Once a couple issues were handled everything was wonderful. Pleasant staff! Front desk was very helpful. When we left this morning early, I had to wake up the man sitting there to tell him we were leaving.
- 5/5
Really nice place near the Line 4 bus stop and Santa Monica Pier. There's accessibility to all kinds of things from this spot, something I truly appreciate when I book my stays. Everything worked well in the room, but the highlight was the bed. Great mattress/sheets/pillows. Staff was friendly and helpful.
- 3/5
overall the room was nice the weekend staff was super nice. the lady working Monday was very rude. The stumping from the people upstairs was annoying. valet was very convenient
- 4/5
The location of the property was awesome! Two blocks away from the pier, one from the promenade and a mall and one block from the beach! We walked everywhere we needed to go. The staff were very friendly and the place was clean. Would stay here again.
- 3/5
Looks great online but dated interior. Great location and price for nightlife… which was a negative in our case since it’s noisy and inconvenient for a family passing through with late arrival and early departure during a roadtrip.
- 4/5
The area this hotel is in is LOUD day and night. People yelling on the streets, cars honking, loud mufflers, cars racing up the street. We had a hard time falling asleep each night. The beds and pillows are pretty hard. FYI there are no mini fridges in the regular rooms. Only 1 small elevator. We were a family of 4 with 2 teen girls and the small bathroom made for some big fights (that’s my fault, I’ll choose better next time). The area is very convenient to the pier and restaurants. There are a LOT of homeless people on the streets here.
- 5/5
Thank you for amazing stay
- 5/5
Best location in Santa Monica for your buck. Hotel might old in the hallway but have the modern feel inside the room. Comfortable beds. Love it.
- 5/5
Great location - walking distance to pier, shopping and dining. Valet was super busy so there was a slight delay in parking, but retrieval was within minutes.
- 4/5
The hotel is in a perfect location walkable to the pier, shopping and restaurants. We stayed in the suite which had a spacious sitting room off of the bedroom with a full sized pull out couch, 2 arm chairs and a desk w chair. The bedroom was very spacious with a large dresser and big closet - plenty of space to store your things. And lots of natural light in both sitting and bedroom. The bathroom is tiny. The shower curtain is very short and as a result water all over the floor when showering. This can be easily solved by installing a longer shower curtain. The bathroom counter was installed for someone toddler sized. Very low. But workable. There is no where to hang towels. Easy fix - install hooks on the back of the bathroom door. The room was very clean. The common areas are another story. There is carpeting throughout and looks like it needs a good cleaning. The carpeting on the stairs needs some vacuuming and could look so much better. All in all, it was the right fit for us and if in the area would stay again. If it’s helpful, we stayed in 306 didn’t use the sofa bed and can’t comment on it.
- 5/5
Perfectly located for Santa Monica activities. Property clean, very nice staff. We recommend.
- 5/5
We LOVED the proximity to the beach, pier, & places to eat. Room was a little small but we weren’t there to sit in the room all day. I would stay there again for sure if back in Santa Monica!
- 5/5
I loved how close it was to everything in town
- 3/5
It is hard to comment because it is a cheap hotel. But it is very tired, and very noisy. We were at the back on the top floor and overlooked a whole ton of fans and air conditioners. This was so noisy that we couldnt open the window. The showers really also need fixing. The building is old and tired, but thats expected. I would certainly not stay again. Service was 100% perfect and the Bar Chloe downstairs is a gem!
- 4/5
The location of the hotel is walkable to shopping centre and santa monica pier
- 4/5
Very friendly staff, close to the beach, nice area. There was a strange, indefinable smell in the room.
- 5/5
N/A
- 4/5
Valet parking was great, walking distance to the beach was perfect, the room was nice a little small, but it was nice and comfortable Our window was facing the street so it was a little noisy with the traffic and people walking all in all the day was great
- 5/5
Cute, older, but well-kept hotel in the heart of Santa Monica. Walk to beach, restaurants, entertainment. Very clean. Rose at reception is a sweetheart. Would definitely stay there again.
- 3/5
Good if you want to see Santa Monica
- 5/5
Had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff was attentive and nice. There is no parking so you have to valet so keep that in mind. Great location. Very close to Santa Monica Pier. The only negative I would say would be the street noise, but that is the price you pay to be close to everything. Great hotel. Highly recommend.
- 5/5
Thank you, Hotel Carmel!
- 5/5
Came for a night with the family to cruise around Santa Monica. Our room was ready early, and the check in process was smooth. It
- 4/5
Great location, very cheap valet parking and fees, yes the hotel is a little dated and our room was above a bar so noisey at night but for what is cost you can’t complain!
- 4/5
I’ve never been to a hotel that does not have a refrigerator. I guess I didn’t read the fine print. I saw many asking for ice. I would think there would be an ice machine area
- 5/5
We had a lovely one-night stay that left us feeling quite content. The staff was incredibly friendly, making us feel welcomed from the moment we arrived. It was great to find the pier just a short walk away, allowing us to enjoy some beautiful time by the water. Plus, the nearby restaurant, which offers a nice discount to guests for breakfast, surprised us with its delicious food. Overall, it was a delightful experience!
- 4/5
This is a very cute hotel in an EXCELLENT location just a block from the beach, the pier, restaurants etc. It is the city so if you need quiet at night, this might not be the place for you. Use earplugs and should be ok. Great breakfast place right next door.
- 5/5
Prefect location. Friendly staff. Clean rooms

Clean room, amazing location! Rooms were updated but the hallway and lobby were dingy and definitely looked like they’ve never been updated.

My family of 2 adults and 2 kids stayed at 8 hotels over the course of a 17 day CA road trip ranging from budget to high end. Hotel Carmel was the most expensive with fees and my least favorite. Location was good near pier and room was clean but the AC didn't work, few outlets in the room. Lacked features of even budget hotels and nothing special to justify cost. $35 plus tax for parking, $23 resort fee but no amenities. Way overpriced for what it was. Only hotel on trip that I wouldn't book again.

100% Recommendation

Was pleasantly surprised by the property. Such a short walk to the beach for the price you absolutely can't Beat It. The only thing is parking is an extra charge but for $35 you get valet and they get your car for you whenever you need it. I'll stay again and I do recommend

Great spot, ideal and central

It served its purpose for being close to beach and a place to lay your head down at night.

I liked to have been accommodated with the family room the room was nice, clean, spacious enough for us, beds were comfortable we really loved the hotel valet parking and the walking proximity to the beach and Santa monica pier without having to take our truck out of valet parking, since parking can be a headache in this area. Overall it was a great stay walking distance to restaurants and many stores we will definitely stay at Hotel Carmel again thank you.

Well placed hotel in Santa Monica, friendly staff

The hotel staff was very friendly. Rooms were clean and beds were very comfortable. Suites are quite roomy. Very close to the beach. Concerns: Water pressure is low. There was no hair conditioner in the shower, just “conditioning shampoo” which doesn’t cut the mustard for women with long hair. Finally, ther certificate of inspection in the elevator was nearly a year out of date. Given that the elevator was bumpy at best, this is a big concern.

Overall, a very cute, unique old school hotel. I loved the vibe & the people were nice. They just need to add a few extras like a mini fridge, microwave, & darkening curtains. The air conditioning unit was also extremely loud.

Great stay. Close to the pier and restaurants. We'll be back

The staff are super friendly and very accommodating. At first glance I was a little concerned by the appearance, and you might be too, but, don't let the reception decor and hallway carpet fool you. The room was very clean, the bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was in excellent condition. I highly enjoyed my stay and would book again.

Thank you so much for the experience!

The rooms could do with modernising and the walls are thin. The staff were great, the bed was comfortable enough
