Clean Safety and location

Property is being renovated, mostly the office and grounds. It clean and safe. Also small, maybe a dozen rooms. Parking is next to the rooms but not sufficient for a full house.

They have a lot of work to do No ice machine . No staff on site after 10pm. Not enough parking on site for all guests - use street at night Area is centrally located to freeways , but nothing around and I would not walk around at night - drive to everything The staff was sweet beyond belief ! But only so much they could do . I wish them best in renovations

The location was also less appealing than I anticipated, as the motel is situated in an alley-like area that felt somewhat uninviting. Overall, the stay was adequate, but it wasn’t a place I would choose to stay at again.

The location of the facility was nice, and the room was clean. We stayed in Room 10. There is an iron door right next to the room, and that door serves as a passageway to other rooms. We spent the entire night and morning listening to the noise made by that iron door. We had two very unfortunate nights. Do not stay in Room 10. The pillows were also very large and uncomfortable.

Cozy room with fridge and microwave. Ten minute walk to famous Mel’s Diner (Opened December 23, 1947). Mattresses was comfortable but noisy when you got up. Parking spaces were near the rooms.

This place was totally quiet and has a lovely outdoor garden sitting area. The staff is very nice. I would definitely stay there again!

Lovely stay. Very clean. Great staff couldn't be more helpful. The only couple of things I would say is It would be nice to have Ice available and the bathrooms could do with an update. But wouldn't stop me staying there again

It was covenant location if you wanna be out of the tourist type vibe and yet able to walk or short drive to the shops n beach

Oh and they promise parking but it’s either you wait for the nice lady to clear a parking space when she goes home or you street park. Hotels.com should remove them from their listing. Don’t count on their accountability for mistakes either

AWESOME PLACE, AWESOME STAFF, AMAZING STAY AND EXPERIANCE

Parking easy (shares parking lot with Jack in the Box, which is convenient for fast food lovers). The motel is a work in progress, but well worth the price.

A quiet hideaway among the bustle of Santa Monica. Located right off a main road, quick and easy access to anything you want to do. Room was spacious and clean, bathroom layout was a little smaller than average but manageable. Parking was steps outside of front door. We were lucky, there were only about 7 spaces, one handicapped, and we managed to get a space both times we needed one. Street parking was available. Quiet neighborhood, didn't seem to notice street noise inside room. Check in is a little impersonal, no lobby, ring a bell to summon someone from adjoining office. Transaction done through slot in plexiglass window, much the same as being at a bank, then clerk unlocks door and escorts you to your room. Not unfriendly, just more of a business transaction than a warm welcome. I'm sure there's a safety issue for the staff, but makes you wonder about your own. However, never felt uneasy, grounds were well maintained, we were very comfortable, never disturbed by other guests. Would not hesitate at all to recommend or stay here again.

The rooms are definitely old and need updating. The bathroom door would not stay all the way closed and wouldn’t open all the way. We could only find two wall plugs that weren’t occupied, behind the bed and in the bathroom and the one behind the bed was very lose and barely held my plug. The rooms are not soundproof at all. We could hear so much noise from the room next to us coming and going. Pretty limited parking but we were lucky enough to find space.

The Rest Haven Motel is a good motel. It's not far from the beach or the Third Street Promenade (25-30 minute walk). It was also not too loud. The rooms are a bit small, but not too small. While it is an older motel, the rooms are in good condition. I like the courtyard in the back of the motel too. It's relaxing and nice. Motel staff and management are courteous and kind. Thus, I enjoyed my stay at the Rest Haven Motel.

Free on site parking. Walkable location to Pier, beach, restaurants and shopping. Small, charming motel, reasonably priced.

Parking was safe and easy

Staff is fantastic, parking is limited, but free. Absolutely worth it. The bed (queen) was a little more taco...sinks in the middle...probably needs a mattress update. It may be dated, but they have done a great job updating and keeping it clean and comfortable.

The pictures were very deceptive. We had a very, very small room with a bed, small fridge, small desk and 2 chairs and view of the dirty backend of a jack in the box. The pictures showed a kitchen with table and nice garden area which are what I booked it on. We were disappointed.

The facility location and owners were absolutely great and amazing. The only reason I didn’t do 5 star was the walls are very thin and could hear everything my neighbors were saying and laughing about. 100% would stay here again if I come back to Santa Monica again. Owners were truly some of the kindest people.

The courtyard, however, makes up for any lack of space. Tucked in behind the main building, the courtyard is private, quiet, and has lovingly maintained landscaping. It's walkable to the Santa Monica waterfront, and there's access to public transportation. Plus, the Piccolo Italian restaurant just around the corner is AMAZING! I'll certainly stay here again when I revisit Santa Monica.

Small room but that is because of the age(1938). It was spotless & smelled fresh & clean. It was quiet & peaceful & a very good price for the location (close to many little cafés & Walgreens a block away).

Room is ok, very small. Older dated small motel. Staff nice. They use old fashion keys. It is literally next to a jack in the box drive thru. Felt insecure and would not do that again.

It is right next to a Jack In The Box restaurant which wasn’t busy and loud but I was here in January so not as much tourist traffic. You have to Park your car right next to it so there is safety concerns there so don’t leave valuables in your car, Only bad thing: NO hot water from sink or shower. Don’t like cold showers

Bathroom hot water had to be left on for 5 minutes before it got warm, another 3 to get hot, then it wouldn’t drain, I was afraid to use the shower because of the fear of standing in water, middle of December heater broken, dead batteries in the TV remote, double bed instead of a qween bed, had to turn sideways to get from bed to the bedroom, no place to put the suitcase rack except in front of the exit door, the only thing good about this room was it was clean

Get room 9 (on the end) if you want the most privacy! :)

room was clean but there was an OVERWHELMING smell of cleaner in the air - my clothes smelled like it the next day. Also, no hot water in the shower. That was a bummer at 5 in the morning. I was surprised it had an 8 rating on Expedia. I would put it at a 5.

There are a better bunch of choices. It’s a short shower and the hot water ran out. Sheets were not these performances. Also was a sign of the door that the balls are fit.

Excellent place to stay

The room was reasonable, the bed was nice, but the neighborhood was a little shady. The location is viably convenient to drive from, but being located next to a Jack in the Box also brought some occasional homeless folks to seek help with food from the restaurant. I wish they kept the floors in my room a bit cleaner. Staff was friendly.

Very lovely front office! Room was clean and easy, area safe and walkable to many things.

This is a very modest hotel, so do not expect pampering. However the price was good and the beds were comfortable and I slept well. I recommend it for budget conscious travelers who intend to be out all day and just using the room for sleeping.

Clean room with comfortable beds which were divided in separate rooms within unit, not one room as pictured. Description states “designer toiletries and rainfall shower heads” - umm…neither. Dinky “plasma television” and tiniest private bathroom possible. Felt very much like a rushed ADU built in a Jack in the Box drive thru.

Second stay here. Great location for the things I want to see. Lots if eclectic places for food and to shop. Surprisingly quiet for its central location and with sharing an alley with Jack in the Box.

Very good value as it is a short Uber ride or scooter ride from the Santa Monica Pier. The front desk attendant was very friendly and welcoming. Would stay here again on my next trip to Santa Monica/Venice Beach.

Kim was very welcoming. The establishment is very well kept. It has the cutest garden patio area. I loved all the succulents and plants. The bed and pillows were very comfortable as well.

This motel was in an unsafe area of town. There were homeless people relieving themselves on the streets, and gun shot sounds in the night. Upon checking in I complained about a strong unpleasant smell in the room. The night manager said "respectfully it is your stuff". I believe it was coming from the window air conditionining unit which made it impossible for me to use the air. Additionally, there were food crumbs and nut shells in the bed. I thought they might be bed bugs but found it appeared either the sheets had not been changed or were improperly washed. Low cost but not work the hygene and physical risk.

What a delightful place to stay! Were there for 2 nights with my husband and 12yo son; Great location in relation to the beach, restaurants, drug stores, coffee and breakfast spots - all in walking distance. Kim was AMAZING - so kind! Our room was a great size, beds were SO COMFORTABLE - so many pillows!! I just can't gush enough how much we loved this spot. Endless thanks!!

Liked the hotel & location was great, really close to the beach. The shower/bathroom is my only complaint. Extremely narrow about 2ft wide. Hard for me to bend but not a concern for young folks.

Just a quick overnight while picking up my kid from college. Kim was delightful at check in. Old school motel. Quiet. Walkable to the beach in 10-15 minutes.

We very much enjoyed this property. It's very quaint and quiet, but we mostly love the staff. The gardens around are beautiful. The plants are so lovely. They are very friendly people.

The motel is quaint but small. It had a courtyard in the rear but my room was clean and bed was comfy. The largest gripe was noise and closeness to the road. The bathroom was really tight only one person at a time could access it. The manager/owner was nice and friendly and very accommodating however. She allowed me to use the microwave in the office since none were in my room. The rooms are very close to the parking and you could keep an eye on your vehicle, plus no stairs! It was in a great location however in Santa Monica close to the pier and Venice beach and easy access to the freeways. Overall a clean safe stay with very little creature comforts.

A really nice, quaint place. It's not super fancy, but the staff are very friendly and helpful, and our room was very nice and adequate. It's also very convenient for walking to the beach.

Property is adjacent to a Jack-in-the-Box that is open late hours. This is a positive or negative, depending on your viewpoint. Property is well-maintained and management is excellent.

Nice street with lemon tree and residential area. Comfortable beds. Large bathroom with large shower. Great TV options. 15 minutes walk to the beach. Heater in bedroom was very welcome with cool nights. Strongly recommend this place.

The motel is “quaint” in the middle of downtown area & close to the pier. It is quiet,warm, clean & comfortable. We were provided a coffee pot by the front desk which was great! There is a small fridge ( no freezer). Over all, for the price & availability to restaurants etc it was great. “Jack” is practically in the parking lot😉

Hidden gem. Clean and conveniently located. It looks a little sketchy from the outside but it's actually a lovely little spot and a great bargain considering the location. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Would def book again.

Makeshift, old-school motel. Very pleasant, helpful, Scottish hospitality. The room was beyond tired. Improvised, and not clean. Someone else's hair in one of the beds . . . I used the one that seemed better.

So I pull into the parking lot and there is no office to speak of. There is a window with a slot on the bottom to pass things through. The room was very small but cute. No coffee pot or alarm clock but it was the first room that my allergies weren't flared up because of the overuse of air fresheners. It was probably a good thing because there was no kleenex

Did not like that I had to wait to check in. But oh well. Besides that, nice place.

Great location and a great staff.

Motel is located across the street from a Jack in the Box so the first impression was not great. However, a court yard behind the building was very nice, quiet and comfortable. Staff (Kim) was friendly and accommodating.

Clean all motel. Family run. Transitional neighborhood. At this property a double room equals one double bed not a room with two beds.

Breakfast or at least coffee would of been nice.

It was about a 20 minute walk to the Santa Monica Pier. Decided to drive. Found pay parking for $7. Worth it because an uber would've been much more.

This is a nice, quaint older motel. The staff I interacted with were all pleasant, professional and very competent. Beautiful little courtyard to sit, relax in or have a meal. The room was small but had everything we needed. The bed was quite comfortable.

Super nice stay near the beach

Small but cute and very clean. If you want to live like you're in a 1930s film noir, this is the place. Great, helpful people, cute squirrel (Tommy) who will insist on being fed, VERY soft bed.

It is a small space, and the bathroom was hard to maneuver. I'm not sure that the bed was queen size. It felt more like a full-size bed.

I loved how cute the courtyard was in front of our motel and how good the room was. Additionally, I really loved the hotel manager! She was very nice and made us feel welcome. I’d definitely recommend anyone looking to stay in the area books a room here.

Charming, historic property on Santa Monica’s Route 66. Very comfortable and has a lovely garden in the back.

I did not like there was no ventilation in the room, and you cannot open the window because it not necessarily safe there.

Sweet place very clean and convenient. Staff was lovely and would stay there again!
