Had such an amazing stay at The Birchwood in downtown St. Pete! The boutique vibe, beautiful rooms, and rooftop views were absolutely stunning. The location is perfect, walking distance to great restaurants, shops, and the waterfront. The rooftop bar was definitely a highlight with amazing drinks, live music, and one of the best views in the city. Staff was friendly and accommodating, making the whole experience feel special. Perfect spot for a weekend getaway. Can’t wait to come back!

There is nobody manning the front desk from 11:00 pm until morning. At 2:00 am we were woken up by blasting music and a bass so loud it throbbed through our bones. After 15 minutes we realized the music wasn't coming from a car or boombox outside. I opened my door and discovered it was coming from the room next door. I pounded on their door and when they turned the music down I asked them to lower the music. As soon as I left they turned it up higher. We could'nt fall asleep until 5:15 am when they turned it off! As we checked out we told several people at the front desk exactly what happened. The management basically decided it wasn't a big deal and offered a minimal apology stating that there is a small white card in the room that gives a phone number for emergencies. That was it! This room cost over $300. Despite it's lovely amenities, I would never stay or recommend this hotel to anyone.

Our room looked over a tree lined avenue, across to a grassy park with the ocean beyond. The hotel was originally a historic property and as such our large room had lots of space. The dining room was very pretty and the food was excellent. We valet parked and did not drive the whole time as the Vinoy, the Dalí, marinas, restaurants and museums are all an easy and enjoyable walk. The rooftop bar was a delightful place to sip a cocktail and people watch with the city lights blinking in the distance. We did opted out from the limited breakfast, instead walking to a coffee bar each day. The bathroom door in our larger room was not designed to latch readily, occasionally awkward!

Great place to stay to enjoy St Pete. Beach Dr. has everything you absolute need! Hotel is beautiful. It had some moments where you could hear people on the rooftop but it honestly wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The AC fan drowned out most outside noise. Beautiful place.

There is no refrigerator in the room so no place for leftovers to go. The "continental breakfast" consisted of hard boiled eggs and various breads/bagels, etc, each individually wrapped in plastic, and not much else. No toaster, no juice. The rooftop bar is closed on Mondays and if you get back to the hotel after 9, you must take the outside elevator, walk down an unlit pathway to a door into the floor, find the pad for the passkey in the dark, and enter the building that way. We requested the room be cleaned after our second morning there and, though the beds were made up, the trash wasn't emptied, water was not replaced, and we had to request more toilet paper.

Everything was wonderful but it was difficult to sleep due to the noise outside. One of the downfalls if such a beautiful, old building is thin windows. If I had ear plugs and there was a mini fridge it would've been perfect!

Things that could use some work: The hallways smell humid and the walls are a bit thin (It doesn't help that people aren't very caring and slam their doors when people are still sleeping). Also, maybe hold the cleaning until 9? They start early and wake you up.

At check-in, we waited 20 minutes with no one at the front desk and no way to alert staff. The employee who eventually checked us in had been sitting in the lobby the entire time and was curt and unhelpful. We were told Wi-Fi was down and late checkout wasn’t available, though we were encouraged to enjoy the rooftop after checkout. One of the main reasons we booked was the rooftop bar, but when we went up at 7:45 p.m., we were told they were closing early despite a posted 10 p.m. closing time—on a holiday weekend. It was also closed the following day, so we never got to experience it. Breakfast consisted of prepackaged, processed items in the lobby, which did not match the property’s price point. While the location and room design are strong, the service and amenities did not justify the cost. That said, we want to recognize Ajanae, who we met after checkout. She was kind and professional, and we believe our experience would have been very different had she handled our check-in. She is a true asset to the property.

This is a beautiful hotel. I booked two rooms one for my husband and myself and another room for my parents. Both rooms were clean and very lush. Great amazing Location. Walk to everything. High quality room. Gets loud at night but that's the night life in area. Rooms not soundproof was a problem. Big issue of mine was no hot water after 10 pm. So didn't have hot shower or face cloth to wash up. But water was fine in morning. My guess is boiler is undersized with all the rooms having deep tubs. Continental breakfast was very minimal and poor options, no staff even bothered to offer service or assistance during it. All things considered ill try the other hotel down the corner next time.

As soon as we entered our room at around 4:00pm EST, the music and bass from the reception directly above us were so loud that the walls and floors were literally vibrating. We could feel people dancing above us. We ate dinner around 6:15pm and returned before we were going to walk around the downtown area/the pier. Around 7:30 PM, I called the front desk to ask when the event would end. We were told “maybe 9:30 or 10:00,” but nothing definitive. We went back out for a bit and returned to the room around 8:45pm - the room was still shaking from the music and bass. On top of that, there was a courtyard bar directly below us (outside of our window) filled with loud, intoxicated guests, adding even more noise. At that point, our room sounded like we were in the middle of a crowded resort lobby below us with an extremely loud wedding party above us (I reiterate - the walls were VIBRATING), not a relaxing, anniversary hotel. At 9:00pm, my husband called the front desk and explained that we were there to relax for our anniversary and that the room was simply unusable due to the noise from both above and below. He expressed that we could not justify paying over

Room was very nice--service was great and so was the location. You could not hear the rooftop club from the room but the walls were thin and the windows seemed single paned--so you could hear those going to and from the club, returning to their rooms, and even their not so loud conversations from the adjoining rooms.

The hotel was very clean and the staff was extremely kind and helpful. The surrounding area was walkable and had lovely museums, parks, stores nearby to explore. The only aspect that I didn't like was the breakfast. Paying $400 a night and with the hotel having it's own restaurant on the first floor I was expecting a better breakfast. Not the stone cold waffles in prepackaged plastic and warm orange juice. It is minor thing, but when you've stayed in hotels that cost substantially less and received a hot breakfast in the morning it was surprising.

The hotel is a cute boutique hotel very conveniently located in the heart of downtown. That being said l, there was no view whatsoever from our room, we overlooked an indoor courtyard which was very loud at night. The room itself was spacious and clean but the beds could use some updating as they creaked loudly with the slightest movement. Free breakfast was minimal. The rooftop lounge had a great happy hour. Overall we were happy with the stay as the location can’t be beat.

The location, food, and staff were amazing, but we paid for a garden view room that was not really a garden view. It was tucked inside and all windows looked out onto some Astro turf on a roof or the AC or whatever machinery was there. Said machinery was incredibly loud throughout the night. All in all we probably would not stay here again. For the price it’s just not worth it.

The room is unacceptable under any circumstances, but especially given what we paid - so bad that we checked out a few hours after checking in. We were told the manager would call us but no one has contacted us as of about 3 weeks after. Trash was left in the room. The view outside every window was of some sort of mechanical equipment. There was noise from an event space right outside one window and from an unknown source outside another window on the other side of the room. The TV remote didn't work and neither did the thermostat.

This hotel is gorgeous and in the best location. And very expensive. For the money I paid, I expected more than partially used shampoo and conditioner in the shower, no one telling us the switch in the entrance by the door controls the bathroom lights, and a remote that didn't work (two times) leaving limited access to TV. No offer of a discount when these things were pointed out. Other than this the place is beautiful and wonderful. But for the money, it should be perfect. And it wasn't.

Unfortunately, it seems that there is only one staff member handling multiple responsibilities, including check-in, check-out, valet, and room service. This was not an isolated incident, as I encountered the same situation during my previous visit last month. For a hotel with rates ranging from $400 to $600 per night, this staffing model is quite concerning. In summary, the hotel is a beautiful place with outstanding staff, but the management should take steps to address the staffing issues to enhance the overall guest experience.

Overall experience was poor. My family booked 3 rooms for my mother's 60th bday. She had 2 rooms and arrived the day before, I had one. Upon booking my room I called the property and asked if I could decorate her room before she checks in and was told I would get a phone call once the room is cleaned, never received the call. When my mother checked in she stated the front desk guy wasn't very pleasant. Upon my arrival no one was at front desk- as they only staff one person and we had to wait almost 20 mins. I parked in the hotel "valet" parking space and gave the desk attendant our key as he is also the hotel valet attendant- we left to go to dinner down the street and within 10 mins he calls us asking if we had the key and where was the car parked, he never tagged our keys so my boyfriend had to walk back to the hotel to get the keys straigten out. We were told all main doors are locked at 11p and to access an outer door that leads to the side elevator- when my cousin arrived at 4a that door and elevator was locked and he had to call the after hours number to have someone unlock it. The whole experience defintely put a damper on the celebration. It wasn't the experience we expected especially for this property.

After 11 self parking in a very busy area. the elevator to the rooftop lounge only worked until the the third floor and you had to go outside take 4 flights of stairs, it was hot 🔥 Beds were more comfortable than most beds. The only problem was that they were both on a wood frame and would creek loudly when you got in and out. That aside we love the area. Just a little bit of a hardship is that they have valet parking only up until 11 is closed between 11 PM and 7 AM. After 11 self parking would not be very close to the hotel, somewhere down the block, which seemed almost impossible. They only have one person who works both the desk and the valet so there is some wait time they could use more employees doing that. Two things that were a little bit of an issue, but definitely not a dealbreaker and we will be back.. the elevator to the rooftop lounge only worked until the the third floor and you had to go outside take 4 flights of stairs, it was hot 🔥 Beds were more comfortable than most beds I have stayed in a hotel. The staff was amazing and our room was very clean. We stayed on a Monday so the restaurant in the hotel was not open, which was a bummer. But, there are so many easily accessible restaurants in the area, so it wasn't too bad. The lights in the "overnight" or "after hours" elevator did not work, so it was pitch dark in there. Take the stairs if you are leaving the hotel after 11pm! Over all, it was a great stay with a beautiful room! I would stay here again.

This hotel is very pretty and a tad more affordable than some other properties in St. Petersburg. The only negative is no pool, which I didn’t think I wanted but in the Florida heat, may have been welcome. The room was large and well kept and furnished, very pretty. The area is perfect and centrally located. Step outside and all of St. Petersburg is at your doorstep. If u need to get your car for a drive, I found it was easy to ask and brought around quickly. We spent 2 nights over a weekend. Yes, there was noise from the rooftop but I didn’t find it hindered my sleep. The tv sound can even that out, so it really wasn’t an issue. I also dined at Teak for brunch which was also very good, and a beautiful location. I would def return to this charming property.

Well restored rooms that our spacious and clean, but some rooms are not private and look out onto a walkway. Worse, the water quality makes the soap and shampoo leave you with an oily feeling. Plus, the shower head is a “rain” style from the ceiling - looks nice but annoying to use. The bath tub was gorgeous. NO staff from 11p to 7a?!? Valet parking is a hassle due to understaffing. Rooftop bar is lovely and the hotel has an excellent location on the waterfront. Breakfast was free but minimal, so have low expectations.

Way overpriced. Property is very tired and needs upgrading. Very poor water pressure and couldn’t even turn the knobs on the bath tub. Huge cockroach in our sink the first morning. Mattress needs replaced and bed very squeaky. No real amenities at the hotel. It’s advertised as having breakfast, but no real breakfast options… Not even a full Continental in my opinion. I am gluten-free and there were no options for me at all. Very overpriced for the lack of offerings. The only plus was the location. All in all just way overpriced for the lack of amenities and breakfast options.

Parking at this hotel is awful. Tried calling the hotel to find out where to park for check-in and no one answered. Had to call the restaurant to get anyone. Once checked in, they do valet your car. But had to be back before 11:00pm or no more valet and park on street and risk a ticket as there is absolutely no parking area/lot for hotel guests. Room was just average, stayed in better. Carpet was stained throughout. Nothing special that’s for sure for the price. Very crowded downtown but if your there for that, one might like the location. Should have stayed at Vinoy, but wanted to try something new. Won’t stay here again!

The bad: With the location being where it is, it is a little on tge noisy side. I don't think its as bad as some of the others are saying but for a Wednesday and Thursday night it had its moments. Parking was a pain. They valet but I've never been a fan of valet parking and that leaves metered parking from 9am-10pm or a parking garage about a 10 minute walk away. Either way you're paying at least $20 a day to park if you walk/use public transportation. The "kinda picky" things: While the tile outside looks nice, its not the greatest for flip flops and rain, and it rained on Wednesday, a lot. A little slippery in areas. The bed was comfortable but the sheet kept popping off and the crinkly(assuming protective leak guard) layer under the sheet was kind of annoying. I get the purpose of it, just pointing it out. No mini fridge. Would be nice to have some cold waters/drinks.

The beds were comfortable and clean. The floors were carpeted so expect a dusty carpet smell, but that probably some from the nature of this being an older building. Everything was really nice. There is noise from the nightclub, but the noise doesn't last old night. The stay was nice, and the service was friendly. I would stay here again.

    1) Parking is by valet, which is inconvenient if someone not at front desk when you want to leave. We might have waited 10-15 minute at most so not a huge deal after first miss of human to fetch our car we built in extra timeto get our car. 2) Dinner. We decided to dine at the hotel on the patio for our last meal before heading home. I ordered the expensive steak, blue rare and their "advertised 1 lb baked potato" - extra cost for any side. The steak arrived on its on on the plate. Naked slab of beef. No grill marks. It was grey in color as if done in the microwave. Baked potato was ordinary. Very disappointing. On its own also. 3) The rooms have no mini refrigerator, despite their large size. I asked if we could get one and was told that they were all in use and if one came free, we would get it. Never happened in the 3 nights we spent at the hotel. Only saving grace was the staff at the bar on the main floor was very amenable to givng us ice buckets full of ice for the wine and proseco in our room. A minor inconvenience but hats off to the bartenders. Otherwise we loved the stay at the Birchwood and will be back next year for Blue Jays Spring Training. Thank you to the terrific staff.

The A/C in my room didn't work until I reported it to the front desk-who fixed it immediately after I spent a restless night in a too hot room. Entrance closed after 11pm and didn't open until 8. Lighting in room was poor. Location is fantastic, staff is great. Seems they have a staffing problem but if that and the A/C is fixed I'd recommend this place.

I did not liked the lack of awareness and communication among hotel staff. For example, no communication between them about whenever a fire alarm emergency sounds on, none is aware of the reason, even a day later from the event, making it hard for us the hotel guests to trust the security measures while still wondering what happened. Also it is not clear that most of the room windows are facing inwards, specially to the hallway were the outside elevators are, no privacy and had to shut down the curtains making my room more darker suffocating. I would suggest placing a decorative plants in the elevators hallways to provide more privacy to room guests.

This is a beautiful property. It’s really cool how they made it seem totally in character of it’s historic nature if the hotel. The rooms are definitely historic looking, but clean and updated in the bathroom has the most amazing call clawfoot bathtub. So if you’re in the baths, bring some Epson salt to soak. They do have a bath gel in the room though also for you.. It’s very convenient to the pier all the restaurants and it’s totally walkable to everything. It’s in a great location for sure. They have a really nice rooftop bar that’s open till 2 AM. It’s got a beautiful view and great ambience. And a really nice place to hang out. I will say though you can hear all the music in the rooms so if you’re looking for totally totally quiet room, probably stay on a lower level. We will be back for sure.
