It served its purpose but I felt like it was a little overpriced for the condition. Very worn and a little off putting that there were cans of bug spray up by cups that were not in a cabinet(I would not use any of that). Even though bathroom looked nice in pictures it is very worn and can use some TLC along with the rest of the room. There was also a closet that didn't shut and I opened bc I saw hangers sticking out form the crack below. When I opened it was tossed w/ hanger and such with another opening I believe it was for behind the shower. I wasn't digging any deeper scared I might find critters but it wasn't a closet to hang anything in. I was tired and the matthress was comfortable. We left in the am so not much time spent there. I won't be going back

There is a light that was buzzing and kept flickering on outside of my window and there is no way I, or anyone, could sleep through that. I had to open the window and reach out and flip the switch to turn it off. Thank God that worked, because I emailed and texted and never got a response from anyone, although it was late. The milk in the fridge was one week expired which I discovered after I already poured my bowl of cereal. I was the only one staying there, which was sort of nice, but part of the reason I booked a B&B was to meet other people and have breakfast with others. Slow time of year I guess. At the very least, I expected to meet the hosts- that's how every other B&B I've been to was, host was there serving breakfast, etc.

The check in process was confusing, the room was nice and we understood that we would share a bathroom but we did not realize that we would have to walk past a living room and kitchen to get there. Thank God there wasn’t anyone else there, otherwise it would have been vety awkward to pass people after taking a shower. Also very limited breakfast items. Bagel without anything to put on it, like cream cheese or butter.

The Coach Room was 66 degrees when we checked in and the split on the wall did not work. The temperature was forecast to dip to the 40s that night. There was no one on site so we texted the number we were given for help. After an hour with no response we booked a hotel and left. Two days later, we have still not heard back anything from the owners except that they are refusing to give any refund. Also, the room was dirty and the toilet ran intermittently.

Prior to arriving, I texted the phone number I was sent in an email. I was supposed to text so that I could get the code for the private room access. After texting several times, calling and leaving voicemails, and also calling the emergency phone number, I never received a response. I ended up having to sleep on the sofa in the common area. Not knowing if other guests would arrive throughout the night was uncomfortable, to say the least. I also had to shower in a common area. Again, not knowing if someone would show up in the Inn. Available food for breakfast was yogurt, fig bars, dry bagels, (no butter no cream cheese), coffee, and store bought muffins. The muffins were awful. After 48 hours, still no phone call from Swamp Rabbit Inn staff. I am notifying hotels.com to see if I can get a refund!

There were spiders in the bathroom shower. TV did not work in the main living room. The outside picture posted on the website is not what the house looks like. We liked the availability of the kitchen and sitting room. The place was quiet and very clean. We didn't use the pool. We were unaware of a room available on the first floor. Due to our age we had difficulty carrying suitcases up the stairs. Being able to choose a room on the first floor would have been better for us. There is absolutely no way to communicate that with you. Communication with the owners is a deterent.

I rented 2 cottages and one room in the main house for my family recently. The upkeep of the exterior property is poor. The buildings desperately need painting and there is no landscaping. All the outdoor furniture is rusted metal. The decking around the Coach house is rotting and railings are loose. There are no signs or instructions as to where to park although most of the area is gravel around the buildings. The interior of the main building has been updated but what they offer for breakfast is cereal and stale muffins and bagels. There were no bottled water or drinks available except Keurig coffee. It was made explicitly clear to me that those staying in the cottage rooms could not eat the breakfast they provided. The Studio AC and fan were not working thus making that room extremely hot. The Coach house closet clothes rod was broken so there was no where to hang up clothing. My family complained of the beds in the Coach house being very uncomfortable. I only got a text from the owners when I requested another code for entry to the main house as Expedia failed to send me the correct information. The owner blamed Expedia for the failing. For the price I paid for these rooms I expected much more and was embarrassed to have placed my family at this property.

On the surface, the property was great, but when I had to interact with “the owner”, it got worse. I received a two page email, the day of checkin, giving a list of things that we could be fined for. (“Don’t leave large boxes in garbage” “put dishes in dishwasher, not sink”, etc.) then when I texted for help, I was told I should read the instructions. I got it while traveling so I had ti read it on my phone and there was A LOT of information. Also, neither of the coffee machines worked.

Room and common area was good. However, property was poorly lit outside and was heat for house could not keep up with a 32 degree night. Service was terrible and dangerous. Instructions to access property said to use back door And not to use front door due to a tech issue. However, code did not work for rear door. Texted and called owner and still have not heard back after 3 days. Luckily, instructions were wrong on front door and we were able to get into house. If that was not open as stated, would have had nowhere to stay. Someone needs to be available for checking issues!

No breakfast Lights did not work on porch, very unsafe. Had to leave car lights on to open door, and bring in suitcases. Light in overhead fan did not work. The two stools they had to sit on at a small bar to eat were unsafe screws were loose. The small amount of dishes were not very clean. If you would have had to use the fold out bed, you would not have had a place to put your bags. Hard moving around with two adults. No reg chair to sit on. The place was close to my home and we had a power outage due to hurricane hrlene. The air vents were filthy and blowing dust and looking very dirty - the bed was ridiculous - creaky, and haphazard appearing Foam over mattress etc. I beleve we had a few flea bites - it's a dog friendly place. However in all fairness it is intended as a hostel type place - for cyclist which should be reflected in the price surely. $200.00 was a bit steep. See above -

Great place to stay in Travelers Rest. The main house was clean. Enjoyable stay, just make sure to bring your own soap/body wash cause it was out

  • James Sep 2024 · via hotels.com
    3/5

The newly remodeled bathroom was a real treat, except we had no body soap and the right sink would not not drain as the drain plug would not budge to drain the sink. There was a rustic, but nice, front porch with a small table and two horrible chairs. I was able to get two metal chairs from the pool area and while not the most comfortable, they were safe to sit in. Unless you’re pretty savvy with electronics, the 3 remotes present will be a challenge to watch TV. But on to the good stuff! The king bed, while highly anticipated, first glance looked as if would be a disaster. But I couldn’t have been more wrong. THE MOST COMFORTABLE bed we have ever slept in! The morning and evening views from the front porch were beautiful! And the location could not be better! While the property could use general lawn maintenance and a touch of paint, the property was very quiet and the neighbors very neighborly! Hopefully the owners can do a little “tighten up” as we would love to stay there again as we will be traveling to Travelers Rest SC monthly for the next several months. Otherwise we’ll have to find other accommodations in this lovely city.

First of all, I was born and raised in Travelers rest, seeing this beautiful old homeplace and was so excited to be able to stay there. This place is a gold mine in TR, But it absolutely needed someTLC. The main thing was it is promoted on your website as white with black shutters, but it looks nothing like that now, I didn’t think I was in the right place. It looks so different. It was in need of a paint job, a lot of landscaping needed, the porch light did not work, the sink drains in the bathroom did not open without prying open, The drive up to the coach house the limbs went over the driveway so much it scrapes your car, No supplies for the Kitchenette, no comfortable chair to sit in. These are just some things that I truly believe would improve a person stay, because the place is absolutely gorgeous. Through all of this I did enjoy my stay. I hope these situations will be taken care of.

We arrived after dark, and the sign was not lit at all (in fact, I didn't realize there was a sign until we left the next day). We missed the turn the first attempt. When we found the turn the second time there was nothing indicating it was Swamp Rabbit Inn on the door or in the yard (again, we couldn't see the sign at the road). So, I tried my code to open the door, and it worked. There was another guest in the living room who let me know that I was in the right place (I thought I'd walked into her house for a moment). More signage and lighting would be extremely helpful for those arriving after dark. Also, a bigger sign on the road would be nice, too. It's hard to see it between the beautiful magnolias.

Experienced issues with code for unlocking door. Virtual staff was helpful, but had to move to another location, only after several attempts to get into the room. I was eveuntually moved to the Cottage which was MUCH better. If it had not been for that, I would have been highly disappointed with my stay. Although I felt moving me to that room compensated for the lock issues, it was quite inconvenient as I had a very busy weekend. Also, there was no soap in the master bathroom dispenser; I bathed with shampoo. See above.

I was traveling with my family and having the communal space of the inn available to us outside of our room did make our stay more comfortable. Also, be award there may be an additional cleaning fee not included in the reservation. All that said, Swamp Rabbit Inn at Travelers Rest is a decent and comfortable place to stay that is walkable to the best parts of TR's Main St. In my opinion, it could just use a little bit more of a human touch and less reliance on technology.

No information provided about how to access property. When I arrived at 9pm I had to text the property manager for 30 minutes before she was willing to provide me the access codes needed to enter the property. Property manager was consistently rude, unhelpful, blamed Expedia, blamed myself, and was not interested in actually helping me to access the room I had paid for and reserved. After 30 minutes of passive aggressive texting I was finally emailed access codes - but was assigned a different room outside of the main house which I had to access by driving down a different dark road - with no lights on or ability to see the names of the building or room I was supposed to be accessing. I was told I was being "upgraded" to a new room. The new room no longer included the breakfast part of the bed & breakfast promised. This room had a dirty bathtub, broken down lamp, couch, and dresser. The main home seemed lovely - but that was not the experience I was provided. The person I interacted with was a total nightmare. I hope she was just a severely unhappy employee and not the actual owner - because she clearly is not a successful or trustworthy business person.

We were not able to go and stay. When I let manager know that I had a Service dog last Saturday, they said that they would have to check with the ADA and get back to me. My medical alert dog has to sleep in the bed with me to wake me if I stop breathing in my sleep. I texted 3 times and called once to ask if they could accommodate my disability. Although she texted back to me, she did not give an answer to the question until check in day after noon. By then, I had had to book another room because I cannot afford to pay an exorbitant cleaning fee because my dog must sleep with me. I do expect a full refund, as I tried to resolve this issue a full week ago prior to the cancellation deadline.

We were never sent a check in email with our door code even though I texted the owner mid day on the day of the arrival. She assured me we would get one. At 4pm, I texted her again and she told me she would send one to my direct email. I gave her my direct email and she scolded me via texted that I didn’t say yes please to her request. I finally received the door code. Luckily the AC worked. The floor was very dirty as I spilled water and when I went to clean it up, my paper towel was brown. One of the two sinks was clogged and there was no stopper so water just sat in the sink bowl. There were ants inside and were never ending. The only good thing about the proper was the location. I would not stay here again.

FYI, they charge a $50 cleaning fee on top of the room charge you see and agree to on Hotels.com. Nowhere did I see this fee until I clicked check-in at which point it’s too late to cancel. So paid $350 for one night in a cottage with super old, dated furniture, old tiny tvs. Place was super clean and cute from outside - just not our style. We stayed at Traveler’s Rest location. The outdoor pool is TINY. When I texted the Inn contact she said the pool was closed. No signage anywhere to say this which I explained and the woman just texted back - “I just informed you.” She was rude all around quite honestly. Would never have stayed had I known full cost + no pool. And not having a reception desk or anyone on-site is a royal pain. We got there a bit early and just needed a place to drop our bags but registration is online only so I clicked check-in to try to get more info on how to get into main house. Well that officially checked us in 2 hours early which we then also got charged for. The Inn contact agreed to waive the $50 cleaning fee but charged us $50 for early check in even though online policy says $10/hour so would have been $20. She was just not nice or pleasant even when I explained we’d only checked clicked check-in trying to get more info. Had no interest in spending my holiday text fighting with this lady so just left it and chalked it up to the one bad hotel experience on our holiday. Can’t win them all but anyone on Hotels.com should be aware about the extra $50!

On arrival there, about 6 pm, there was no one to greet us and no other guests. The keyless pad entry on the front door of the main house did not work due to a low battery. A call to the manager instructed us to go through the kitchen entrance. The kitchen appeared not to be cleaned (crumbs on counter, garbage can full). When we got to our room (Azalea) the door was open and the room not been cleaned nor the bed made up. A second call to the manager got us into the Cottage room behind the main house, but once inside we discovered that the heater/AC was not working. A third call to the manager got us into Studio room. Once there we did have a comfortable experience (quiet, nice memory foam bed, decent shower).

Over all it’s a good stay except below: hotel site says it’s wheelchair accessible but it’s not. There’s no ramp but stairs. The bath tub was too high to a handicap person to step over. The location was not easy to find. I’d recommend the management to place a sign for easy identification from the Main Street.

Enjoyed a wonderful evening in the Magnolia Room. We love the nostalgic homey feel of this inn. It’s like going home to mama’s. Everything is sparkling and clean.

This was an adorable place! We were very comfortable and were able to bring our doggies too. There are 3 rooms in the main house and 2 cabins plus a pool. No one was in the main house, so we had it all to ourselves. Beautiful, well-equipped kitchen, lots of breakfast food, even a couple beers! Plus living room and dining room. Comfortable bed with nice bedding. The only disappointing area were the towels/washcloths! There was so much attention to detail, and then they had these thin, scratchy towels. So little to complain about, but an easy fix! If you are a light sleeper and staying in the main house with other guests I’m pretty sure it could be noisy. All hardwood floors and no rugs- little to absorb noise. Also, we were not notified that we would be sent an email about self-check-in, so there was a little hiccup there, but after we called the number the email explained everything. Even tv operation. I would recommend this place if you are looking for a very European-feeling lodging experience. Also it is well-located in the heart of town. The pictures of the interior don’t do it justice.

Sweet place and location perfect. Very easy carefree in and out. Comfortable nights rest and our room was cheerful with lots of windows - very beautiful when we opened the blinds and let in the dazzling morning light! Very relaxed, very safe …we will return. Sweet bonus to see they have bikes available. Thankful and hope to be back soon!

The house and room was beautiful and comfy! The only thing I noticed was the grounds needed some tender loving care. We love to garden , so that was the only tiny thing, such a neat old estate, it would compliment it better. The sign out front could be more visible too.

I stayed in the main house and it was incredibly loud and not at all conducive to sleep. There is nothing to absorb the noise of other guests and everything echos. I could hear every time someone beeped in, walked the stairs, talked anywhere in the house. It was awful. I went for rest and ended up cutting my stay short to move to another hotel. There are no curtains or room darkening options (just blinds) and the beds are incredibly firm. Lastly, there was very obvious gunk on the remote. Not acceptible any time but made me especially concerned about the cleaning practices during covid.

What a nice find. Rented the poppy room and it was perfect for a couple nights. It shares a common bathroom, and it was extremely clean and had everything we would ever need. Will definitely stay again when we return.

The Swamp Rabbit Inn is adorable. The rooms are cute and nicely decorated. Everything was very clean, and I felt comfortable staying there during COVID. There were no staff on-site, which was fine with us. We received check-in information via email, and we were able to let ourselves in. The staff was available via email if needed.

It was a great Valentine’s Day weekend. The place was super clean. Had more amenities then I thought it was going to have. It was so close to all the food places and grocery store. I didn’t want to leave it was so peaceful. Perfect place for a family vacation!

Property needs some maintenance-paint issues in bedroom and bath. Rotted wood in some areas and I had a stick fall on me from clogged gutters in front of house

Terrible responsiveness - book at your own risk! After adjusting one of our reservations, we never received our refund despite multiple calls and email confirmations. We were also falsely charged for a broken lamp. We ended up contacting our bank to dispute the charges. Choose a more established and reliable hotel chain like the nearby Hampton Inn.

Swamp Rabbit was an ideal stay for us. Last minute needed a place while my boyfriend recovered in the ICU from a racing accident and Swamp Rabbit was very accommodating and felt like home. Highly recommend staying here

Besides poor communication, all the furniture cushions by the pool were dirty and mildewed, things needed painting, there were broken boards in the gazebo deck—felt like no one was caring for it. We like the coach house. Overall it was clean but the shower curtain and some tub caulking had some pink mildew/mould as well as the tiny freezer in the mini fridge needing defrosting. It had so much frost it made it so the fridge door would not stay shut. I defrosted it—but it should not have been me!
