Guests consistently praise the exceptional service provided by the innkeeper, Rick, and the convenient location of the hotel, particularly its proximity to the beach. The breakfast is also frequently complimented. However, some guests have issues with the cleanliness of the rooms and the quality of the furnishings.

My husband and I absolutely loved our stay in the Tybee room at the DeSoto Bed and Breakfast. Check in was painless, our host Rick was phenomenal! Looking forward to getting back very soon!

We had a wonderful stay at DeSoto Bed and Breakfast Inn. The home is beautiful, charming, and filled with historic Savannah character, while still feeling warm and comfortable. A special thank you to Rick, the Innkeeper, who made our stay even more enjoyable. His hospitality, kindness, and attention to detail abd historical knowledge shared made us feel truly welcome from the moment we arrived. The organic breakfast was majestic — truly King and Queen worthy. It was fresh, delicious, beautifully prepared, and such a lovely highlight of our stay. The location was perfect for enjoying both Savannah and Tybee Island, giving us the best of historic charm and coastal relaxation. The rooms, front and back porches were cozy, comfortable and thoughtfully prepared, and everything felt peaceful, personal, and memorable. I would highly recommend DeSoto Bed and Breakfast Inn to anyone looking for a charming, welcoming, and truly special Savannah/Tybee Island getaway.
- 4/5
The parking lot is small, so maybe bring a midsize or compact vehicle vs a full size crew cab truck.
- 5/5
The breakfast was cooked fresh every day and served by the best inn keeper ive ever had. Rick was amazing.
- 1/5
Whole house smelled of bacon. Balcony only faces street. View of ocean off back balcony is of a building barely 15 feet from the house. Room (Butler) was very small, bathroom was very aged.
- 5/5
Yes beautiful views
- 2/5
For us Cleanliness is everything and this was far from it. We won't give much details but please take a look at our picture and judge for yourself.
- 5/5
Wonderful host, fresh cooked breakfast, location steps from beach that was perfect for viewing sunrise!
- 5/5
Room was clean, comfortable and ready upon arrival. Located steps away from the beach. Innkeeper Rick made our stay though!! His historical knowledge of the area and his homeland, freshly made yummy breakfast and making us feel at home will bring us back to stay!
- 3/5
Water stains on ceiling, carpet looked dirty. Check in desk people were definitely not very friendly. The main common room upstairs smelled old and musty. Definitely wasn't worth 250.00 per night. It was just ok. Pretty disappointed
- 5/5
Our room was clean and comfortable and very cozy. We got to meet several other couples as well during our breakfasts. Highly recommend this B&B and it is very close to the beach. You won’t be sorry!!!
- 5/5
This B&B is such a breath of fresh air! The ability to open the curtains from my room and see the ocean down the alley was a pleasant surprise in the morning as I arrived in the dark. Then to be greeted by Rick with his outstanding hospitality and breakfast spread was the cherry on top!
- 5/5
The room and house was wonderful! Super clean! The breakfast was superb! Rick was an amazing host!
- 5/5
Rick, the innkeeper was the best host. Food, room and the stay overall a wonderful experience.
- 5/5
Rooms were very clean and professionally maintained. Staff extremely friendly! Breakfast woh Rick was absolutely amazing!

Having recently returned, I am delighted to share my outstanding experience with Rick, the proprietor of Desoto Bed and Breakfast on Tybee Island. He demonstrated exceptional hospitality, far exceeding our expectations. From our initial interaction, it was clear that Rick was a consummate host, and his charming nature drew a most effusive response. His unique combination of graciousness, humor, wit, and intellectual curiosity made him a true asset to his profession. Rick generously shared stories of his life and family, while also expressing genuine interest in ours, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere reminiscent of a traditional Scottish home. For those seeking an engaging and memorable experience, I highly recommend a stay at this beautifully historic residence, where charm and character abound. Ever interaction will ensure our return. The beautiful rooms were clean and well stocked and cozy, like coming home.
- 3/5
There was no view as stated and requested! staff was was very helpful with getting us checked in and going out of her make to make sure we were warm I love her for that however the room tv needs to be updated and possibly larger. other that those minor issues our stay was very nice !
- 5/5
Lovely place with a great host Rick. Will definitely go back.
- 5/5
Very nice B&B
- 5/5
Came to Savannah for our Honeymoon and wanted to spend a night by the beach… picked this place mostly at random and am SO GLAD we did! The property and rooms are cute and unique, with so much more character than your big hotel/motel establishments… but what completely took us by surprise and made the whole journey worthwhile was the inn keeper Rick! He made delicious breakfasts and kept us enthralled and entertained with his stories of his Scottish heritage and artifacts, as well as Savannah history. His service and friendliness was above and beyond, we would gladly come here again just to hear more of his stories! Thank you for helping make our trip so memorable!! ~ Randi and Dale

Rick was fantastic. Best breakfast ever and a super cool personal experience.
- 5/5
We checked in at the Desoto hotel and were escorted to the B & B by hotel staff. The B and B is a beautiful condo that has 3 guest rooms and a full kitchen available to guests along with 2 common balcony areas, one with a dining area and the other for sitting. There is a dining area where you are greeted by the Innkeeper Rick MacDuff who is from Scotland and wears his klan kilt. The breakfast he and his wife have prepared are all natural ingredients and mostly Scottish influence. Gluten free is used to accommodate most needs. Rick is a scholar of history and teaches local and Scottish history at universities here and in Scotland so shares a vast knowledge of both. Coffee is prepared and ready first thing in the morning and Rick serves breakfast 8:30-10. An added touch is the wine and cheese tray at 5pm each night.
- 5/5
I greatly enjoyed my time here and wish I’d had more time to enjoy the inn itself. There are two upstairs “porches”, one with a hammock and the other with rockers. The breakfast is scrumptious and thoughtfully prepared. The inn keeper is friendly, well versed in local and world history, very helpful and responsive to guest requests and needs. The location is great- a couple minutes walk and you’re on a gorgeous stretch of beach looking at the Atlantic. The inn keeper even had coffee ready for me so I could enjoy it while watching the sun rise over the ocean.
- 5/5
The B&B was immaculate and host Rick McDuff is truly unique, interesting and a character. Breakfast was wonderful and the Tybee "room, not suite" was awesome.
- 5/5
Our stay has been excellent. The location is a short walk to the beach. We also walked to shop and eat at local places. Rick is awesome at preparing breakfast and giving his history of the area. We highly recommend the stay and enjoy a relaxing time on the beach.
- 5/5
The innkeeper, Rick, is a wonderful Scotsman with a wealth of historical knowledge about the inn and the area (and more). He cheerfully greeted us every morning wearing a kilt of his family tartan. Every morning he also lovingly made a wholesome breakfast and made my husband and I feel like family. I wholeheartedly recommend booking the Desoto Bed and Breakfast for a comfortable stay steeped in tradition.
- 5/5
This was such a great place to stay right on the beach. It was clean and comfortable. The best part about it was our wonderful host, Rick MacDuff. He made us a wonderful breakfast every day and set out wine and cheese every evening. He told such great stories and was so informative. A really interesting man. He truly made our stay the best experiencewe ever had.
- 5/5
The highlight of our stay, however, was the innkeeper, Rick. A true Scottish gentleman, Rick even wore a kilt, which initially made me wonder if it was a mere gimmick. But Rick is the real deal—a genuine Scotsman with a passion for history. In fact, he's an adjunct professor at a local college, and we had the pleasure of engaging in an in-depth, two-hour conversation about World War II. His knowledge and enthusiasm for history were captivating. If you're looking for a relaxing retreat with a touch of historical charm, this is the place to be. I’ll definitely be recommending Desoto Beach Bed and Breakfast to my parents and in-laws, as I’m confident it will exceed their expectations just as it did ours.
- 5/5
Loved the property, our accommodations were very spacious with a great view. The innskeeper made us a wonderful breakfast and was very knowledgeable about Tybee island, Savanna, and Georgia in general which made for a wonderful and interesting breakfast 😀
- 1/5
WARNING...This property is a SCAM. The pictures and description of the property are completely misleading. We were put in the "honeymoon suite" and it was disgusting. The room has had no updates since the 1970s and the furniture, curtains and carpet were worn out and dirty. We asked to cancel our stay when we saw the room and facilities and they would not. We left anyway. DO NOT STAY HERE!
- 5/5
Innkeeper and breakfast were very enjoyable.
- 5/5
We had a lovely stay & are sorry we couldn’t stay more than one night. The BnB is well-appointed & comfortable. The host, Rick, is charming & informative — a great cook & an even better storyteller. Highly recommend. We’ll be back.
- 5/5
The very positive aspect of the B&B was the fantastic breakfast prepared by Rick and his knowledge of the history of the area. Well done
- 5/5
The Scottish steward of the bed and breakfast was not just welcoming and a great cook, he was amazing!! Super knowledgeable regarding history and local knowledge, a Professor, pilot and chef! The wine and cheese plate was a nice touch at happy hour also, we will definitely be returning one day!
- 5/5
I've been to other bed breakfast but it was my girlfriends 1st time and she loved it. The room was great. It was nice and quiet, and we could see the ocean from our room. I definitely recommend
- 5/5
Enjoyed the breakfast and the conversation with the innkeeper! We would definitely stay here again.
- 2/5
I wish we can get a refund went there with my wife for a 25 year anniversary got their Thursday Friday. The hurricane came. We didn’t have no power Friday and Saturday no places to eat no power just experience in the bed-and-breakfast we had our forced for breakfast we only got two hot meals otherwise it was cereal and milk because of no power it was a big inconvenience. We did not have a car. We couldn’t get hold of the hotel to see where it was safe for us to be during the hurricane and we were trapped on the island for two days with no food or power
- 5/5
Wonderful clean cozy enviorment. Breakfast was awesome!
- 5/5
Inn Keeper Rick was awesome
- 5/5
The B&B was exactly what was needed for an overnight on Tybee Island, my first visit. It was clean and charming and I very much enjoyed the hospitality of the innkeeper, Rick! He was not only gracious as the host but full of historic insights. The kilt attire as he served a delicious breakfast was wonderfully unexpected for this Scotch-Irish American girl! We’ll be back as my daughter attends SCAD in nearby Savannah.

The suite was beautiful and comfortable. The breakfast was amazing! The Scottish host made the entire experience wonderful!

Rick was an outstanding host and makes the place.

Amazing inn keeper great
- 4/5
Easy walk to the beach!! Host was wonderful - only 3 rooms so chatted with other guests, shared breakfast together and talked with host. This made the stay fun!
- 4/5
The picture on the web is bit misleadings. The Butler County is quite small . If you want a spectacular view of the beach, book the Tybee suite aka the honeymoon suite… Salutes to Rick….quite a Scotsman … Ted and Pat. Kentucky lMay 8 th
- 5/5
Easy walk to the beach, comfortable room, great breakfast, and excellent innkeeper and staff.
- 5/5
It was very old school, cozy, and quiet. Housekeeping was amazing and so was breakfast the next morning. He was very kind and understanding and accommodating.
- 1/5
Smelled and not clean.
- 5/5
The owner, Rick, told us he hoped our stay at the bed and breakfast would feel like a home away from home. It certainly did! The breakfasts were delicious; the atmosphere, peaceful; the establishment, beautiful and clean. Rick was a delight to meet - knowledgeable, kind, and happy to serve. We recommend this bed and breakfast.
- 5/5
Nice...very quaint B&B...looks like only 3 or 4 rooms...one house back from the beach....walkable to a couple of really good restaurants
- 5/5
Absolutely wonderful place! Stayed one night in way to Florida! Very clean and comfortable beds!
- 5/5
Our host Rick made our stay memorable! A cut above, A across the board! We will return!!!
- 5/5
This is our first time at a bed and breakfast. DeSoto bed and breakfast was cute and quiet. There is only 3 rooms that share the main sitting area. We stayed in the Tybee suite. So we had the entire upstairs with a private balcony to sit and look at the stars at night and see the sun raise and ocean in the morning. Every morning breakfast was served family style and every evening we had wine, cheese, and crackers. Kirby was the person that cooks breakfast for us and she is very friendly and outgoing. The sweetest thing about this place was to hear that the owner has staff bring breakfast to the elderly neighbor who is 98 years old and lives across the street every day!
- 4/5
We enjoyed our stay! Very quaint, very clean! As indicated in the advertisement we were to have someone there to greet us at check in- there was not..we went next door to check in as told to us by others in the courtyard at the time.. Breakfast was supposed to be from 830-10.. breakfast was being prepared at 7am- noisy for those staying in the Butler Room that may want to sleep in.. breakfast was on the table promptly at 830.. would not have been able to have breakfast later than that.. we did enjoy our time but just a couple of points that may upset some guests
- 3/5
Location is great for a walk on the beach though!
- 5/5
Everyone was amazing! Kirby and Lyn made the best breakfast. The bed and breakfast Desota was the best . Clean close to beach. All staff was nice and helpful.
- 5/5
It has always been a great adventure and the staff is over the top.
- 5/5
It was close to the beach, but yet still very quiet. The staff were very welcoming and nice.
- 4/5
It was located with beach access
- 2/5
We have stayed at the Desoto Bed and Breakfast several years ago. It was great, they had an inn keeper that gave you that southern hospitality. Breakfast was out of this world. This time, their inn keeper should not be apart of the B&B. Her breakfast was worse than a Motel 6. Had the same thing 3 days in a row. Talk to the manager, he in turn talked to her and again we got the same breakfast. No change, except she was mad. Not sure we will return.
- 4/5
We had a lovely stay at the B & B. We stayed in the Butler room. The only real complaint was that blackout curtains are definitely needed. We found a blanket in the closet and was able to cover the window with it. Had we not had it, it would have definitely affected our sleep. Also, the place while mostly clean, could definitely use a thorough deep clean. Breakfast was excellent and both hostesses during our stay were extremely friendly and helpful. It would be nice to have 2 breakfast sittings if possible. 8:30 was a bit late for us. We were not able to eat the last day. All in all though, I would certainly recommend.
- 5/5
Friendly staff
- 5/5
The staff was amazing. The inn keeper ms. Lynn was a sweetheart she told us all about the Island and were everything was. We stayed in the honeymoon sweet that room is absolutely beautiful and giant.
- 5/5
The area was clean
- 3/5
Location was perfect, wish the they beach towels.
- 5/5
This bed and breakfast is absolutely lovely! Very centrally located to great restaurants and right on the beach. I’ll definitely be coming back!
- 5/5
Staff super nice! Breakfast was good with lots of choices. Multiple options for sitting on various Porches and balconies. Great view of ocean from Tybbee room.easy beach access. Less than 200 yard walk. Quiet. Loved it!
- 5/5
This was our first time at a true bed and breakfast and we loved it! Breakfast was AMAZING!! Staff was super friendly and helpful. Check in is located in the hotel next door for future reference but easy to navigate. Would recommend to others as a little older decor but that is part of the experience. No complaints and we will be back in the future! I believe our hostess was named Lynne and she was SO NICE and welcoming, would love to have her working on my team!!
- 5/5
Nice property, we didn't realize that there was a spring break event so that affected what we were able to do,however the room was comfy but small. I would like to go back on a quieter weekend. Breakfast was great. Very private, building stays locked and only the three suites have keys.
- 3/5
Expensive for what you got - breakfast not very good and bathrooms in rooms not very clean - cost didn’t match experience. Host very pleasant and nice though.
- 5/5
Nothing like having a little wine and cheese & crackers waiting for you at the end of the afternoon. We will be back!
- 5/5
Clean and very comfortable, would stay again.
- 4/5
Great location near the beach! Balcony was beautiful! Miss Lynn is a gem!
- 4/5
Friendly and helpful staff
- 5/5
A short walk to the beach. The room was clean and had a large closet for luggage. Breakfast was excellent. It was a short walk to the restaurant we chose for dinner.. There was a nice commons room and outdoor decks for relaxing, but we were on the beach during daylight.
- 5/5
Check in was easy. The inn keeper, Lynn was very friendly. She prepared delicious breakfasts each day. Big cookies and fruit were available to us. There are only three rooms available at the B &B. They are seperated from each other, there is plenty of privacy. The commons area is nice. It has two porches to relax on. I think it was the softest bed i have ever slept on! Walking distance to beach. Lots of restaurants nearby. Lighthouse walkable or short drive, enjoyed going there.
- 5/5
Fabulous stay, beautiful room. Tybee room was exceptional. Thank you Lynn for the wonderful breakfast
- 5/5
Comfortable and quiet room si the h plenty of space. Breakfast was very good. Staff was attentive. Access to beach is perfect.
- 5/5
This property was gorgeous. We stayed in the Tybee Suite for a single night but will look to re-book for a longer stay in the future. Breakfast was wonderful and made by Ms. Lynn, who also saw to any needs we had during our stay. Easy access to the beach via a short walkway. The beds were comfortable and facilities were clean and modern with a touch of antiquity.
- 5/5
Wonderful room! On the beach . Coming back from the beach after seeing the sunrise to a freshly cooked breakfast - amazing!
- 5/5
What a wonderful experience. Lynn had southern style breakfast ready when we woke up. Actually, we woke up to the smell of bacon frying. I can't say enough about this wonderful place. Walk to the beach in 60 seconds. We walked to dinner. It was perfect.
- 5/5
The DeSoto bed and breakfast is amazing at first I thought the room was small then I realized the whole house was ours !!!!!! Haven't had breakfast yet but I'm sure it will be amazing thanks!!!!
- 5/5
Beautiful rooms, clean and comfortable, spacious common areas, nice breakfast, very friendly staff, convenient location.
- 5/5
Amazing stay! Ms Lynn made us feet so at home! Wonderful breakfast every morning, cheese , crackers and wine in the evening, fresh cookies, great conversation…the list could go on and on! She even made us fresh baked cookies for our ride home when we left! We will definitely be back! Thank you!!! ❤️
- 5/5
Everything was excellent except for two issues. Wine and cheese was promised at 5 pm. There was wine but no cheese. The attendant said someone forgot to bring it. A small issue, but there were no coat hangers for clothing.
- 4/5
Access to the beach is easy. Friendly and knowledgeable innkeeper.
- 5/5
Close to beach. Cooked Breakfast was great!
- 5/5
Ms Lynn keeps a beautiful B&B, very sociable, speaks her mind, and up every morning making nice breakfast
- 5/5
We only stayed one night, but it was worth it. The staff was nice. The room was cozy, and the breakfast was wonderful. The bed and breakfast is a very short distance from the beach, which was also beautiful. We have already booked another weekend.
- 4/5
Great amount of the balconies, big one off our bedroom with ocean views
- 5/5
The breakfast was wonderful, staff very nice, I love this place.
- 2/5
I picked this place because we were going to a 7am sunrise wedding on Tybee Island beach the next morning. It was very coinvent. I tried to book it directly through the property but they required a 2 night minimum. So I booked through Expedia which allowed me to book only 1 night. You have to check in at the hotel next door and they walk you over to the Bed & Breakfast. The staff at check in were very pleasant and helpful. There are only 4 rooms. I was told no children are allowed and only 2 guests per room. As you enter this property, you immediately walk up 1 flight of stairs. This is where there is a common area, large table, couches and balcony. You can not see the ocean though you are on the beach but there are buildings blocking the ocean view. There are 3 room on this level and 1 more room around the corner which is up another flight of stairs. SO, IF YOU ARE HANDICAPP AND CAN NOT CLIMB STAIRS, THIS IS NOT A PLACE FOR YOU TO STAY. Our room was along the main road and it was VERY NOISY. We had driven about 10 hours and very tired when we arrived and had to get up very early the next morning for the wedding. Bed was comfortable but hard to sleep with the noise coming from the road. I think if they had impact windows installed, it may keep the noise down some. Then the other window above our bed, faced south toward the parking lot where you check in. There was music playing in the parking lot all night. We did not stay for the breakfast.
- 1/5
I was so disappointed in this property!! If you have any concern over possibly having a family member getting sick or concerns with Covid, DO NOT BOOK YOUR STAY WITH THIS PROPERTY!!! The staff was extremely difficult to deal with and very rude. I called to cancel my stay due to a family emergency. When I made the reservation, I was given a timeframe that I could cancel without a fee, and also had purchased protection on the stay. I called within the timeframe I was given when making my reservation, and they would not cancel my stay because they said it was past the date, despite it still being a week until my stay. Expedia offered to help me, however they were unreachable to speak with someone regarding the reservation. Apparently, they were more concerned with getting our money rather than being understanding or accommodating in the least. The woman at the front desk was extremely rude and had no concern for customer service. Think twice before you book a stay here.
- 5/5
The place was even nicer than expected and Julie was a great hostess. Will be returning most definitely for a longer stay.
- 5/5
Great breakfast! Cozy, quiet, great access to beach!
- 5/5
Our experience was fantastic! From the staff to the actual space everything was wonderful. The house was open and inviting with multiple places to sit and relax. We will definitely stay again.

No recycling- room wasn’t cleaned the whole time we were there

Very friendly staff
- 5/5
Our hostess, Julie, was wonderful. We began each day with a delicious breakfast prepared by her. Our daily conversations with Julie were nice. She offered many great suggestions of activities and restaurants to enjoy. The bed and breakfast was peaceful and enjoyable.
- 4/5
Great destination
- 5/5
Friendlyness and oldcworld charm
- 5/5
Love how Samall it is and how nice they treat you
- 2/5
We rented the B&B which was so cute on the arrival. The check-in was easy and the clerk was nice. The B&B on entrance smelled like mold. The room was right beside the common area, had an inch of dust on everything and it was not as pictured.. at all. The clerk was nice enough to move us to the hotel, which was not ocean view, that I had to immediately ask for cleaning supplies. The bed was horrible and the pillows were crap. We have stayed so many places and this was the worst place we have ever stayed. Go down the road and rent a house, or stay another hotel. I can’t recommend this place because it’s over priced and out dated.
- 5/5
Was an amazing experience being out first time in a B&B. Breakfast food was amazing every morning and the staff was amazing also. They go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and special. Will definitely be going back!!!
- 1/5
Don't ever try to stay here...there are others good ones around...
- 4/5
Excellent breakfast. A little dated.
- 4/5
Room was supposed to have a “partial” ocean view, but only looked at the street. And breakfast “cooked to order” meant it was cooked, hot, and fresh served family style at 8:30. She totally would have cooked again for us since we didn’t come our until 9:30, but I didn’t want to make her re-do — warmed up in the microwave. Would have been nice to know our room had a drawer in the fridge. I never opened it until the morning we left. Butler Room was much smaller than the pic online. And a dead roach stayed on the side of the staircase for our entire visit. All that being said, it was a nice place to stay! The staff was outstanding - friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable, the A/C worked well. The atmosphere was lovely, the location was convenient to everything, especially the beach - which stayed much less crowded than the beach area that was close to public parking! Would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
It was very close to the beach. No issues with other tenants. Lots of privacy. The keys to the property need to be marked so you know which one goes where; just a simple sticker would work. The shower is tiny and has no place to put your supplies so a shower caddy would have been great. So basically the place was great...
- 2/5
Overpriced for what was offered.
- 4/5
Check in is in a separate building but was easy. Bed and breakfast was nice Decks needed to be vacuumed. Charming spot near the beach so what’s to complain about! Great location and staff was very nice and helpful. Breakfast was great. Hot and nice to sit with others to enjoy a meal.
- 5/5
Julie cooks the most awsome homemade breakfast each morning at the Bed and Breafast unit.
- 4/5
No real negative issue to report!@
- 5/5
It was an outstanding facility. The staff were very friendly and very professional. We will go there again!
- 5/5
The bed was so.comfortable. Loved all the plants and greenery and places to sit outside.
- 5/5
All ratings would be excellent if not for covid-19. Some of the covid19 changes naturally hurt the communal nature of a B and B. Still a great location that we would recommend.
- 3/5
I stayed in the B&B. This was not very COVID oriented. Putting 6 strangers at the breakfast table after the host prepared breakfast without a mask is of question. I liked the beach setup that was available with umbrellas and chairs. The B&B was charming.
- 4/5
I like the delicious full breakfast and the wine and cheese in the afternoon. The place is old but very nice specially the common room. They need to replace the Saggy mattress with something firm.
- 5/5
and this place was amazing! It felt like a home away from home. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was wonderful. The bed and breakfast is right at the beach and we didnt have to walk across the street to get to it. I would highly recommend this bed and breakfast and will definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
There was a lovely wine and cheese tray waiting on us. Check in and out was easy. The room was lovely. Great trip!
