Reviews
Guests generally have a positive experience at this hotel, appreciating its cleanliness, comfortable rooms, and excellent location on the wharf with plenty of dining and entertainment options nearby. The staff is often praised for being friendly and helpful, although some guests have experienced issues with follow-through and attentiveness. The hotel's amenities, such as the rooftop pool and bar, are also popular, but some guests find them expensive.
- Excellent location on the wharf with plenty of dining and entertainment options
- Clean and comfortable rooms
- Inconsistent staff performance, with some guests experiencing issues with follow-through and attentiveness
- Expensive amenities, such as parking and food

Expensive but very nice hotel right on the Wharf. Staff were extremely nice and welcoming. Room was clean and large. We stayed for a week. Daily housekeeping was slow and often forgot to restock coffee. However when we mentioned this at checkout they credited the daily "amenity fee" which saved us a couple hundred dollars. Hotel restaurant looked nice but was too expensive for our tastes. However there are tons of dining options on the Wharf.

Aiden, the bell hop was the absolute star of the show. All staff were great, but Aiden really stood out. Super friendly and professional at all times. Remembered me by name after just the first encounter and always greeted me by name every time he saw me. Really made me feel at home and welcome. I have only stayed at the Intercontinental in San Salvador, El Salvador before and wondered if my experience here would be just as good. Did NOT disappoint. It is a great brand to stay with. They truly are top notch in their level of service!
- 5/5
Lobby Coffee/tea service needs to be available at times posted. I was there at 7 am and had to wait until 7:30 for coffee and had meetings on the Hill at 8 am.
- 1/5
Valet backed my SUV into a pillar in the parking garage. Tried to buff it out, unplugged my dash cam and do everything but be honest and tell me about it. Too late, it recorded everything I needed to know. Saw a lot of really nice expensive vehicles being left in their care, be forewarned! Their insurance better handle this well. $75 for valet service is crazy enough... my vehicle should not have been damaged!
- 5/5
Our stay was amazing! The staff was super friendly and helpful, and our room was PERFECT! The robes were a perfect touch after a long day, and we felt completely relaxed for a good night’s sleep.
- 4/5
Beautiful hotel in a great location. Considering how busy The Wharf area is, the room was pretty quiet. Great view from the rooftop pool. I also loved they had a hoist at the pool which would allow wheelchair users to still access it. Nothing, aside from the price. Very expensive.
- 5/5
Close to Anthem

Zero complaints. Would recommend

La mejor opción si vas a DC

The Wharf District offered plenty to do for a family with teenagers, plus a wide variety of dining options. The hotel location, staff, cleanliness, accommodations, and amenities were excellent.

Beautiful, spacious, super clean hotel on the Wharf—which is a great place to stay because so much is walkable (even Audi Field)! Room service closes at 9:45pm ET so be warned about that, and the pool doesnt have bar/food service that we saw. The pool also only has about 6-10 chairs so a bit competitive but soooo relaxing and clean!

I loved this place very clean
- 4/5
Overall it was a great stay! Very clean bath accommodations, bed was comfortable and very spacious room.. however, on arrival, we noticed the top bedsheet was torn and shredded on one corner. Not what one would expect in a 4.5 star rating hotel. The staff opened the door occasionally but not a big deal, but the doors are heavy and a problem for me since I have major shoulder problem.
- 5/5
Hotel was lovely and staff was very friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
Hotel was very nice. Staff amazing
- 5/5
Had a wonderful day at the intercontinental room was lovely. It even had a nice balcony overlooking the Potomac river although we did have the door open for quite some time. It did allow mosquitoes to get in but while we were away for dinner, the hotel staff removed them and we were able to have a comfortable night stay I will definitely recommend.

Lobby area , good breakfasts, hotel surrounded with several walking paths, several restaurants along rivers; nice helpful doorman and front desk staffs. No slippers in room ( it’s the hotel policy)

EXCELLENT! Great staff from the restaurant, front desk, and valet! Location is perfect! My room was spacious and relaxing. The rooftop is lovely - only for guests!
- 5/5
From the moment I walked into this property, I was impressed. Everything was above par - the scent, decor, cleanliness, staff. Trey at the front desk provided exemplary service. So much so that my 17 y.o even commented. I consider myself a harsh critic on cleanliness (I travel with cleaning supplies, wear shower shoes, pull back bedding, check bed bases, and furniture, even at 5 star plus establishments), and this room was clean and well appointed. My son used the fitness facility and he was pleased and commented on the variety of equipment. It was a turnaround trip, so I wasnt able to utilize the other amenities, but I did pass by the spa, and it looked very appealing. The self parking is a bit expensive for a public parking lot ($64/day, but no in and outs. So you pay every time you take your car out), but they do offer valet which is typically priced for luxury properties ($75). I am definitely staying here again when I return, and I highly recommend it!

- 5/5
Everything was good about my stay, no issue and no concerns
- 5/5
The hotel was in a great location with convenient access to the airport, which made travel very easy. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. However, the highlight of my stay was definitely the breakfast—everything was delicious, and the portions were generous. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for comfort and convenience.
- 5/5
The location is great, especially the rooftop pool. Get a fantastic view at dusk. Room is quiet and soundproof, which is good for a light sleeper. Though breakfast buffet is no longer offered, the order menu is still good. Overall an amazing experience.

They serve a great breakfast. I would recommend paying for it at the time of booking to save money. Everything about my stay was excellent. The only complaint was their slowness in releasing my room deposit upon checkout.

We really enjoyed our stay. The staff was pleasant and went above and beyond to accommodate us. Everything was clean and well-maintained, the property was nice and easy to walk through, and there was always an attendant available to help us.
- 4/5
Room was lovely snd clean and location was great but the parking situation is horrendous. For that reason alone, I would not recommend this hotel. A tiny alley is used to either valet your car for an exorbitant price or self park in a public garage with no guarantee of spots available. Almost had my car hit by a delivery truck just trying to access the front of the hotel.
- 5/5
The breakfast is good. My family love it.
- 5/5
Excellent location, right on the Potomac. Lots of restaurants adjacent although the food at the restaurant-breakfast, lunch and dinner-was superb. Most museums and other attractions within walking distance. Situated in a very upscale, safe area with great nightlife. Cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay.
- 5/5
Clean room and close to everything! Wharf area is beautiful

We love the location. Near lots of restaurants. The hotel restaurant is nice too. A special shout out to Oscar in the Willowsong bar on the property. Oscar took great care of us!!

The front desk staff came across as snobby and unwelcoming. Simple questions were met with snappy responses, which made it feel like I was being talked down to instead of helped. There was also a basic billing issue that the staff could not handle properly. Breakfast was included in my rate, but it was not reflected correctly on the bill. It took two phone calls and then an in-person conversation to get it fixed, which should not have been necessary. The restaurant service was not much better. The waitstaff seemed to avoid eye contact and were hard to get help from. Overall, the property itself is solid but the attitude of the staff and the difficulty fixing a simple billing issue left a poor impression.
- 5/5
The room was very spacious, clean comfortable. It’s in a prime location with easy access to major attractions.
- 5/5
Prime location and awesome hotel and staff
- 5/5
Check in was a little long, but besides that, we were happy overall.
- 5/5
The Intercontinental was amazing! It is a beautiful hotel and very clean. Staff was wonderful as well, they were very attentive to our needs!

Staff very helpful and friendly

From the moment we arrived to the moment we packed our bags in the car, the staff was courteous, polite and respectful. They were very helpful when we had questions or even if we didn’t. I had a special occasion that we were celebrating and the concierge, Mr. khan made all the arrangements to make it special, although he wasn’t present on the actual days of stay. Many thanks to him!
- 5/5
I absolutely loved this hotel. The surrounding area was stylish, the views were beautiful, and there were plenty of great restaurants nearby. Most tourist attractions were within walking distance. The view from the rooftop was amazing! I would definitely stay here again.

Location was perfect to access the many restaurants at the Wharf. The pick-up and drop off for the Big Bus tours was across the street. Walkable distance to the Spy Museum and Holocaust Museum. We ate every morning at the Willowsong hotel restaurant. The hotel was clean, the staff helpful and friendly. A great place to stay on the Wharf!

Great hotel! Friendly staff and great service.
- 5/5
Location is great as it is not too far from the National Mall, but gives you a different flavor of Washington with live events and quality restaurants in the area. It is a very populated and noisy area. Free breakfast is not your typical free breakfast because you have two choices. Either pick from a set menu with about 8 meals to choose from or do the buffet. If you don't order the buffet you are restricted to your meal and one beverage (coffee or juice). You get $40 per person allowance to eat breakfast at their restaurant, but essentially you can only order the one meal. The meals are hearty however, especially the American which I ordered often and had two eggs, two pieces of toast, two sausages or bacon and breakfast potatoes. It was a very filling plate.

The breakfast I purchased with the room for two people exceeded my expectations. The food was fresh, high quality, and a great way to start the day. I’d definitely recommend adding it to your stay.

Best place to stay in dc. On the river where the nightlife is, but not far away from all the touristy/iconic spots. It was just logistically perfect. The room was nice, big, and clean. The concierge couldn’t be better. The desk staff was a hit or miss though. They were either the best ever or the worst. It was apparent the bad ones missed the training bc it is obvious this hotel wants to stand out for its great hospitality. I just wanted a coffee cup. Never got one.
- 4/5
Location is great but the amenities are just okay same with the staff who weren’t as friendly and warm as the other hotels we’ve been to.

The staff was what you would want everywhere you stay. They were helpful and thoughtful. We will be back to their hotels again

The hotel was beautiful and perfectly situated in an unbeatable location. There were countless restaurants, live music venues, and sightseeing attractions all within easy walking distance. The concierge, valet, doormen, and front desk staff were consistently attentive, welcoming, and professional. The facilities were spotless and modern, creating a comfortable and upscale atmosphere. Our reservation included breakfast, and the full breakfasts served in the hotel restaurant were absolutely delicious.

Great location with an endless number of bars bd restaurants near the property.

The room needs to be updated, furniture was banged up and the light shades had stains. Hotel staff wasn’t the friendliest. There was an event going on Saturday night, the music was so loud it was shaking the glass (we were on the 4th floor) in our room and even the bed. Thankfully it ended around 11:30pm. Breakfast was good although not free for our stay.
- 5/5
Clean rooms, great amenities and delicious breakfast
- 4/5
The room and service were great, but we struggled to use the TV to watch our shows on Netflix. We ended up giving up at the end and turned it off.
- 4/5
The staff was lovely and I really appreciated the kind and hospitable nature of the hotel. I will say, however, that the room was a little rundown (Ex. a broken cabinet door, discolored lampshades, a glitchy TV remote, and chips on the corners of the vanity). Those are just little things that made it feel not as upscale, but overall I really enjoyed the experience.
- 4/5
Dusty hotel room. Was sick on a nightly basis. Thermostat kept resetting. Hotel was clean, staff was nice, but it was the worst intercontinental I’ve ever been to.
- 5/5
The room was spotless with beautiful views of the wharf. The staff was courteous and accommodating. Thoroughly enjoyed.

The nicest staff. The hotel was spotless. Our bed was comfortable. We loved our stay and will definitely book here again on our next trip to DC!

Clean room, friendly staff, good amenities. Our rate had included breakfast, which had a wide variety of options that were tasty and very filling. Would definitely stay here again!

My room was spotless, beautifully maintained, and I was pleasantly surprised with an upgrade to a room featuring a Juliette balcony. The views of The Wharf and the DMV area were absolutely breathtaking—perfect for relaxing and taking it all in. The hotel’s location is unbeatable, with walking distance access to some amazing restaurants and attractions along The Wharf. Overall, this stay exceeded my expectations in every way. This was truly a five-star experience, and I would absolutely stay here again.

It was a nice stay, but parking for $75 additional a day was a lot.

Lovely upscale hotel in prime location on the Wharf. Great view from 7th floor. Terrific breakfast buffet!
- 5/5
It was pretty clean. A few scuff marks on the wall close to the window. Beds were comfortable. Shower was really nice. Only thing missing was a refrigerator.
- 5/5
Everything was amazing
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel and fantastic location! Staff was great!

Furthermore, I already paid taxes upon booking through Expedia. These charges are unreasonable and unacceptable. Standard amenities such as water and WiFi should be included in the overall cost of my stay. Additionally, being charged twice for these services feels unfair. Please address this issue promptly, or I will have no choice but to share my experience and write a negative review across various platforms. I look forward to your swift response.
- 3/5
The valet man was extremely rude and even honked his horn at my disabled sister crossing the street. The hotel was nice. Very fancy. Beds were stiff. The $35 per day fee may be worth it in the summer months but in the winter it didn’t get us anything.
- 5/5
I loved this hotel! Shout out to Kitana for her excellent service. The hotel was so clean and beautifully decorated. We will be back!
- 5/5
Excellent location with beautiful views of the wharf/river, close to many dining options and shopping/entertainment. The room was clean and we were greeted with sweet treats for our anniversary (cheesecake and macaroons). All the staff were kind and welcoming. Would definitely stay again.

My stay at InterContinental Washington D.C. – The Wharf was truly exceptional. From the moment I arrived, I felt warmly welcomed, and I was even offered an upgrade which made the experience even more special. The food was absolutely delicious, with every meal exceeding expectations. The staff were consistently respectful, attentive, and professional, making me feel valued throughout my stay. The hotel itself is spotless — everything from the lobby to the rooms was super clean and well-maintained. Overall, it was a perfect combination of comfort, hospitality, and luxury. 👌

Room layout and view
- 5/5
Wonderful overnight stay at the Intercontinental. A spotless, well appointed executive room with large soaking tub. The room boasted an extremely comfortable king bed which threatened an on time checkout. I strongly recommend this hotel for visits to the Washington DC area as it is close to numerous dining and entertainment venues in the Wharf district. Great experience.
- 3/5
For the cost of the room, the condition was not great. It was in need of some TLC. Stains all over the light fixtures, lots of very visible dings on the bed. Sticky residue on the TV remote. Not great shape, overall, given the price point.

Nice view. Decent hotel.

My stay was great. Staff was a little robotic at first but then I got helped by this woman she was much more friendlier and supportive

Be aware that there're hidden fees. The hotel charges a convenience fee that is not listed in the Expedia website. It's $35 for, mostly, a bottle of water and internet access.

- 5/5
The property was beautiful. The staff was amazing and the area is so easy to get around plenty of dining and entertainment options.
- 5/5
Rixon at front desk was great and went above and beyond to showcase amenities.
- 4/5
Only complaint is the room only had one tea/coffee cup. Called for service and was only given paper cups.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel in the Wharf District, gorgeous water views, walking the wharf foot stroll to restaurants, bars and music venues is easy. Rooms large, comfortable beds and modern bathroom with upscale sundries. Great weekend stay!
- 5/5
Very clean hotel door very nice
- 5/5
Neat
- 3/5
it's ok and a nice property, but definitely not up to standard of an Intercontinental or the other properties on the Wharf. I stayed 6 nights and had issues from the check-in, from the level of customer service and attentiveness from the front desk, consistent issues connecting with in-room dining, having to request something with several follow-ups over a few hours, room cleaning and trash not being done properly, the sink only giving scalding hot water, and the blinds not closing entirely so that bright light hits you right in the eyes in an otherwise dark room, due to how to the furniture is laid out...that's too many issues for me. It wasn't the worst, but I won't be staying here again.
- 5/5
Great experience
- 4/5
The staff are amazing! Corner room could use a cleaning and the balcony especially needs some much needed attention. At the end, not as romantic as intended.
- 5/5
Great stay! Large room, comfortable bed and good food options.
- 5/5
This was an overall wonderful experience with a very courteous staff.

Location
- 4/5
Good location, staff were not as friendly and attentive for a luxury hotel. Carpet in room was dirty.
- 4/5
Did not honor single bed requested.
- 5/5
The room was well-appointed and modern. Loved that it has a shower and separate tub. I had tickets to Anthem next door so it was nice to literally walk 500 feet to the concert venue and to have a cocktail at Willowsong after the event. The Metro stop is a five minute walk away, and you can get to the airport or anywhere you want from there.
- 5/5
Very clean and spacious room. The bed and pillows were very comfortable.
- 5/5
Excellent staff and location! Everyone was so kind and many great stores and restaurants around.
- 5/5
Great 3rd stay at the InterContinental at the Wharf + concert at The Anthem. Got the balcony king water view, the door stayed open pretty much the whole time we were in the room. Great weather and views.
- 5/5
Everything was great, but not a fan of the bed pillows. I wish hotels would have several different kinds on the bed, since there’s always more than 2.
- 5/5
Close to everything at the wharf area. Great service.
- 5/5
The Intercontinental at the DC Wharf is wonderful. The room was well equipped and comfortable. The view of the River is lovely. We hung out at the rooftop pool and ate at the Willowsong Restaurant. The staff was attentive and responsive. We will be back

Very nice area

I love the area. Thenparking situation was awful. Hotel doesnt validate the parking where you could get a discount.

Excellent location in a beautiful area of DC! The staff is friendly and helpful!

Very good stay. Definitely go back next time!
- 5/5
The hotel was clean and the staff were very helpful and pleasant. We enjoyed our stay and the location.

The Wharf is a beautiful area of DC. This hotel is very nice, fancy yet understated. Our room was clean, large and comfortable. Valet parking was a plus. Walkable to great restauranta and to The Anthem. A great concert venue. Our stay was lovely.

Dated. Was expecting mich more being an intercontinental property situated on the wharf. Wouldn’t suggest it or return. water marks on lampshades.
- 5/5
Excellent DC base of operation

Beautiful hotel, very well maintained and lovely staff. One downside was the noise level on the weekend evenings. We thought it was from outside but later learned about a bar or club on one of the higher floors that it was coming from. Apart from the noise, great hotel and we would visit again!
- 5/5
Fantastic staff! Michelle at check in was absolutely pleasant. We were awed at the room cleanliness and spacious. The pool was perfect. Quiet at night and bed very comfortable. Worth every penny!
- 4/5
Staff seemed concerned about our satisfaction.

Great location, with many restaurants and bars on your doorstep. Hotel was very clean and well appointed. Staff were lovely and always helpful. Breakfast choices were superb and fantastic value. Loved everything about the hotel and would definitely stay again.

Stuff was friendly, makes us feel home , welcome us with a smile and through the stay care about me and my wife feel as comfortable as possible
- 5/5
It is located in a great area by the Wharf. The restaurant and bar are great. Gisela was a great waitress. Front desk was very helpful as were the porters and valet.
- 5/5
Location was great with a great weekend vibe. Lots of buzz and activity but hotel itself is quiet. Rooms were nice. Loved my shower. Service was great all around from front desk to bellman to valet.
- 5/5
The property is beautifully designed and in a very nice area of DC - The Wharf has come a long way. I loved being on the water. The amenities were great. Pool is a bit small and was filled with kids but still enjoyed it. Very nice gym and on site bar and restaurant. The price is pretty high but not surprising being at the location its at. The parking is 65 a night so heads up. Dont know if id return but id recommend checking it out.

Quick check in. Beautiful spacious room

Great place, friendly and helpful staff
- 2/5
I would not recommend this hotel; dated, worn, almost no service, LATE checkout is 11:30!
- 4/5
The hotel is in a great location where most areas are walkable. The rooms are comfy and stylish. The rooftop pool was very cold and I would suggest having a few more sunbeds up there.
- 5/5
Overall, it’s a very nice and walkable area with plenty to see and do. You can even go kayaking in front of the hotel.
- 5/5
The staff was amazing, kind, flexible, professionals. The location was perfect for us. The room exceeded our expectations. We didn’t hear any noise and it was super clean. The rooftop pool was small but we never felt it was crowded. The gym was very well equipped and had excellent views. We stayed 3 nights and I wish I had stayed longer. We will be back!

Hotel was great for our short family trip to DC. Very easy walk to the mall, great location at the wharf with restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream, and water taxi. My kids loved the board games available in the lobby. We also loved the rooftop pool, bummed it closed so earty (6pm) and the pool bar was closed the day we were up there but we were able to bring up drinks from the hotel bar downstairs. And as also noted in other reviews the elevators are very slow, not a big issue for us though. All staff were great, very helpful and made sure our stay was great. Highly recommend for families! Will be back!

They exceeded my expectations. The customer service make sure I had a pleasant comfortable stay. I will definitely be making reservations there next time thank you intercontinental for your warm welcome.
- 5/5
Fantastic location!
- 5/5
Quality trumps price. Very good view to the river and convient to hang out. Imagine you running in tje fitness to watch places off and down, walking along the river with your love at a whirling night. Forget the troubles and difficult y you facing. Just this night.

Beautiful Hotel on the waterfront.

Great stay

The view to the water.

I did not like that the room was not properly cleaned. Hair was found in bathtub and shower wall and headboard dust was so thick it fell onto pillow while sleep. This was extremely disappointing. There were to many calls made to concierge to resolve 1 issue. I do however appreciate head of concierge who made early check in possible, and made sure my husband had a warm welcome for his birthday. That was a nice touch we greatly appreciate.

So beautiful! Can’t wait to visit again !

Overall, I thing the hotel rooms were very good. Everything was clean and the staff was always willing to help. I wish they would add some type of continental breakfast. Yes they have a restaurant that you could get a breakfast, but 36.00 for eggs, sausage, potatoes and toast is a little steep. We got a 35.00 credit to use as we please for whatever in the hotel, but there is a 35.00 resort fee that I feel negates the credit. I would stay there again but now I am better informed.

My husband and I had a wonderful visit for our anniversary. We were treated exceptionally well. The restaurant Willowsong, was impressive. I tried the watermelon tuna dish, and was blown away by the symphony of flavors. It was unexpectedly delicious! 10/10, well definitely revisit.

It is very nice place
- 5/5
Great location. Very nice property, clean. Please stay here, you will not be disappointed!
- 5/5
Perfect location. Able to walk to all of the bars and restaurants along the wharf. Parking was expensive, so plan for that. Only negative is the rooftop pool has very few lounge chairs and no shade at all. Close to the water taxi so you could easily go to the national Harbor. All in all a great hotel and I would def stay here again!

Hotel is decent. Location is outstanding.

The staff were friendly and helpful I love the cleanliness of the property. I want to say a thank-you to Ahmet at the front desk.

I LOVED THE PROMPT RESPONSE TO ANY QUESTION OR REQUEST. I ENJOYED THE ROOFTOP POOL AND SPACIOUS ROOM. I HOWEVER WAS LOOKONG FORWARD TO A FULL VIEW OF THE WHARF, UNFORTUNATELY I HAD AN ASKEWED VIEW AND WAS UNABLE TO VIEW THE FIREWORKS FROMTHE WHARF.
- 3/5
Nice location……long line for checkin, only one person checking people in. $35 resort fee…… for nithing
- 4/5
I like the property very much but there was a few tiny details there's no microwave in the rooms and there wasnt no space in the refrigerator because of all of the beverages you had to pay for but overall it was great.

Management inept

Very clean and quiet. The staff was very friendly

This was a beautiful hotel. Very accommodating, complimentary early check in and late check out. Very clean, beautiful rooms, huge bathroom/shower. So location convenient. Close to Starbucks, restaurants and 2 minute walk to the event I went to, at the pier. Can’t say enough good things about this place.

Good lobby bar.

We had a wonderful time, there was nothing to dislike
- 5/5
Food a little bit expensive, breakfast in site expensive even for a 5 star hotel, staff very nice
- 5/5
I stayed at the Intercontinental for 3-night business trip and was upgraded to a marina view suite. It was a beautiful room, and I could see the marina and watch planes come in from the bathtub! I love all the touches the Intercontinental offer, it’s my go-to hotel whenever I’m in DC.
- 3/5
The hotel area is calm, quiet and beautiful. The hotel was very nice. All staff from the house keeping personnel was great. My biggest complaint some of the people in the front desk not very approachable nor welcoming. When asked to bring up delivered food to our room it took the one day about 25min. Not acceptable. No room service!
- 5/5
Cons: parking and valet situation (at least at night) isn't very straightforward and needs better coordination. The staff never mentioned an app upon check in, but after we tried to retrieve the car, they told us to check the app/texts and we were confused.
- 5/5
I wasn't crazy about the location, which isn't in the centre of DC and which is a little close to unsafe areas.
- 5/5
Great place

Amazinggggggg
- 5/5
First and foremost, the staff at the Wharf location is fabulous! Everyone was friendly, ready to be of assistance & just to have conversation while you waited in the lobby. Secondly, the room (833) was clean, comfortable, had a great view of the pier, was located near some wonderful restaurants, & was worth every penny. I would recommend & will stay there again.
