Reviews
The hotel's location is consistently praised, with guests appreciating its proximity to public transportation, restaurants, and shops. However, the hotel's age and lack of updates are frequent complaints, with guests noting outdated furniture, lack of amenities, and occasional cleanliness issues. The staff's friendliness is often mentioned as a positive aspect.

Remote for the tv didn't work. Malfunction tv

Loved the older style of the hotel where each room is located unique. It is situated in a lovely neighborhood very close to bus stops. My room could have used additional lighting. Ceiling light and small nightstand lights were very dim.
- 4/5
Very clean but very basic. It reminded me of staying in a hotel in Europe. There was not refrigerator and the blow dryer didn't work well. I think the mattress on the bed should be replaced as well. That said, the room was quiet, the area around the hotel was peaceful and the subway was only a 15 minute walk from the hotel. I will probably stay there again.

no me gusto nada y por una confusion de fechas al reservar me cobraron el doble por el cambio y eso que lo realice en los siguientes 3min.

The price and location of this hotel are great. The hotel has a real vintage feel which is kind of cute - it's definitely not a sterile chain. The staff I spoke to were friendly. I was in a basement room that was in a kind of alley, which was a unique experience. There are basement rooms in the building, but also several when you go out another door -- the rooms are along the wall like in a motel. There were blinds on the door, but a light just outside was very bright. Luckily I had a sleep mask. The bed was a bit too soft for my liking, and fine for one person but would have been small for two. This hotel was OK for one night but I wouldn't stay much more.

Great location. Decent hotel but it seems expensive for the amenities. Staff and I had a room in the basement which was a little depressing

I am a woman traveling alone. My room was in the basement and the door was glass covered with blinds. You could see directly into my room from outside. not safe at all I am a woman traveling alone. The staff is cool Well it's hard to say but people don't care about life when you can't walk outside before you arepeople stocked by the Illuminati Freemasons and I'm sure you guys are in all that so that's one thing I don't like it what happened while I was at your motel

Clean room, perfect air conditioning, nice location, daily room service, friendly staff and good cafe served 24 hour at the hotel lobby.

My only negative about the Windsor is that there are no nearby stores for obtaining drinks, snacks, etc. This is compounded by there being no vending machines or lobby sales to obtain drinks. There was a water with lemon dispenser with small 6 oz. cups in the lobby, but that was it. I recommend that you provide a place to purchase soft drinks, water and perhaps snacks at the front desk. However, overall, I greatly enjoyed my stay. Thank you.

The location is fantastic. The hotel is right by the U St Corridor which has a bunch of fun restaurants and shops and is very walkable. The hotel is clean. As others have mentioned, there's no elevator but there is AC. The rooms are small but have what you need. The mattress in our room was ancient and had huge holes where a million people had slept and was very uncomfortable. The TV in our room also didn't work. someone came to fix it our second day but it still only barely worked.

- 3/5
Clean bathroom, comfortable bed. No elevator. A mile or so from any shopping or restaurant but right on bus line. I’d stay again but be prepared and ask for lower floor.
- 5/5
The room was clean and comfortable, although the double bed was small for two. It had air conditioning and heating. The staff was very friendly. The hotel's location is excelent, a couple of blocks from the bus stop and about a 10-minute walk from the subway station. We found everything excellent and would definitely choose it again.
- 5/5
Good bathroom amenities. Nice stay.
- 4/5
The location was convenient to off-site parking and metro. It was only about a 45 minute walk to the National Mall. The neighborhood was nice.
- 5/5
Good location, very clean small hotel
- 5/5
It was nice, good location
- 5/5
Room was clean, a bit dated but good enough for what I needed. Had an early flight in so my room was not ready yet. The man at the desk in the morning was super nice and helpful. The afternoon man at the desk was rude. Had to wait for him to finish watching a video on his phone before he’d help me.
- 3/5
Very old room
- 3/5
Good enough for cheap price
- 1/5
Inwas cheated by Expedia, i have lodged a formal complaint
- 5/5
I told myself "at least it's cheap!" because the photos looked horrifying, but the Windsor Inn is quiet, charming, and the photos don't do it justice. No elevator might bother some folks, and having a bathroom sink in the sleeping area was strange, but the shower was clean with good water pressure. Wi-Fi was reliable with a secure network. Front desk staff was very friendly and held my luggage for a few hours after checkout. Neighborhood is serene and beautiful with some cheap food options (Bandit Taco) nearby. Can't beat it for the price!
- 5/5
About a 40 minute walk to the monuments and I have to admit it was not what I expected just make sure you look for parking first don’t worry about the place it’s clean and in a friendly neighborhood

Very comfortable place with a lot of charm. Nice location on a picturesque street
- 4/5
Room was nice and cleaned everyday. Close to metro nice neighborhood
- 3/5
The room was fine but we had to wait for coffee in the morning to brew. Also, I asked the front desk person for an extra pillow to support my back and it was flat-out no.
- 3/5
The location is good, but the interior furniture is not. I understand they try to maintain a legacy look, but the actual furniture in the room was just old and poorly maintained. There was nothing charming about it.
- 5/5
The location was amazing it was right along a bus line and very near everything that we wanted to do during our vacation. The main lobby was a cozy space that made you feel at home and the staff was very nice and also helpful. We will definitely come and stay again.
- 1/5
The only positive aspect of this property is its location. Based on the photos, it appeared to be a decent place to stay, but unfortunately, that was far from the reality. Upon check-in, the condition of the room was unacceptable. There was visible mold, cracked walls, chipped and poorly maintained paint, and carpets that appeared not to have been cleaned in years. The overall cleanliness and upkeep were extremely disappointing. We requested to speak with a manager, only to be told they were on vacation and unavailable. Despite providing clear evidence of the issues, our request for a refund was ultimately denied by management. The staff on-site were unable to assist in any meaningful way—they could not process a refund or offer a solution, and appeared limited to basic check-in and check-out duties. Overall, this was a very frustrating experience, and I would not recommend staying here. ***Please do not sign anything they charge you a safety deposit when you get there*** I needed safety from this place.
- 5/5
This quaint inn was an excellent stay in Washington DC. The staff was super nice and helpful. The location was real close to the DC sights (1.3 miles straight down 16th to The White House). Bikes, metro everywhere and it all clicked to provide a fabulous dip in the huge pool of sights and sounds of the nations capital. This is a great place with wonderful people.
- 2/5
My single bed room was fine. Bed was comfortable, shower was great, overall satisfied. Not many frills. My room was located in the "basement", one of three rooms that had a fenced in hallway outside the door with a portion that was outside, like in an alley. Odd. Initial interaction with the staffworker behind the desk was sub-par. She wasn't welcoming at all.
- 4/5
Good location. Old place, no elevators, shared fridge and microwave.
- 3/5
The area has some quick restuarants very close. About a five minute walk is the Dupont Circle area with lots of restuarants, entertainment and convenience stores. The hotel is older/dated with zero amenities. Beds are average at best but the area is very quiet and very safe.
- 4/5
Needs a place to put soap in the shower
- 4/5
My experience was fine. I felt safe and well taken care of. The desk clerk Sunny was extremely accommodating, helpful and friendly. The gentleman was very good too. One other female attendant was also accommodating. My only disappointment was the room lacked a fridge to store my food, and a microwave oven.
- 3/5
The room at the District Hotel was ultimately fine. Arriving at the Windsor, however, to learn that my reservation had been moved to another hotel was a hassle and a runaround. Some notice about this ahead of time would have been helpful.
- 1/5
The hotel was closed and had been for some time due to plumbing problems. I got to the hotel and read a notice on the front door that it was closed. I had not been notified in advance of the closure or that I’d been rebooked a room in a sister hotel in another part of the city. It really was a most unpleasant experience.
- 5/5
Everything went great. Friendly service, clean room, and pmenty if ice. We had a very nice stay. Great place to just lay your head and sleep
- 3/5
No parking provided. Had to park 3 blocks away and walk back to hotel. Hotel was clean and basic amenities avaikable.
- 4/5
The room was very spartan. No frills at all. Dated, but clean. The staff was pleasant, responsive, and kind.
- 4/5
Room looked clean. It had a window mounted A/C which kept the room cool on a hot day. There were a lot of stairs and no elevator. It also had additional wonky 4 sided step platform. It is impossible to not take steps to your room along with carrying your luggage. It wasn’t awful but I would choose a hotel with elevators especially if my room is on a high floor.
- 5/5
Quiet , clean nice experience.
- 5/5
Right in the heart of DC for a great price.
- 3/5
Bed and shower was lovely
- 4/5
Charming old 1948 property clean and comfortable warm.No coffee facilities in room but available in the reception area. No breakfast
- 3/5
Staff are not very cooperative. Some of the guist comes out to reception wearing towl during bath due to some issue in the toilet . Not recomended for living
- 2/5
Staff was polite, and the location was fine, but I would not stay again.
- 5/5
The hotel is located in a lovely residential area where I easily found safe, street parking for the weekend. The hotel keeps the front desk open 24/7 and in the morning hot coffee is available. I don’t consider this a con but this is not a hotel if you are planning to spend a lot of time in your room. It’s definitely for those who want a quiet place to sleep and to get dressed and out in the morning…
- 4/5
Clean and convenient. Majority of staff (save one at the front) were pleasant and helpful. Aside from key swipe to get into my room never working, all was fine. And yes, the AC worked, which was crucial, given the temp was ~100 degrees F most of my visit!
- 1/5
Hotel is very old, carpet was smelly, shower was unclean and mildew, missing tiles in the shower can cut your feet, sink falling apart. No elevator, no water at all for customers, not even to purchase. Terrible experience. I will never stay here again.
- 3/5
Location was fantastic, but room lookex nothing like what I booked online. The room was super small and everything was dated
- 1/5
It looked nothing like the photos. I didn’t get the renovated room that was posted on Hotels.com and it was very disappointing for the price.
- 5/5
Basic but does the job
- 4/5
A nice little boutique l
- 1/5
The room smelled like the inside of a NYC taxi (putid air freshener), the decor the decor is "early suburban thrift shop cast-offs", no bottled water available or for sale, ice machine not working. Partying revelers in the hallway at 3:30 in the morning. Registered for a 3 nights stay; checked out after 4.5 hours after asthma attack from the air freshener; physical safety was also questionable. Their response: "We don't do refunds."
- 3/5
Con: No elevator, rooms not maintained well
- 5/5
This was the second place I stayed while on my trip, such a relief from the first. It was clean and quiet and felt safe. No breakfast but I don't eat that anyway.
- 5/5
Hundred and Ten percent World Class Customer Service, thanks for Team support and the Amazing experience that you provide.
- 2/5
This hotel has had years of bad renovations. It is pretty rundown
- 3/5
The hotel was quite standard, with basic amenities and services.
- 5/5
All great
- 4/5
Staff was friendly.
- 4/5
For a one night stay when you have plans. This hotel is a budget friendly option. If you just need a place to lay your head, I would recommend for a day trip but not for a week unless you’re really on a budget or traveling alone. The location is excellent. There’s ample on street parking surrounding the in on the weekends. It’s a good 30 minute walk to Dupont Circle or the Lincoln theater.
- 2/5
My room had many issues - bathroom sink linking; no light bulbs in the lights; stained sheets and carpeting no vacumed
- 4/5
The Windsor Inn was a throwback to an earlier age with great working AC, and though the room was small, it did provide everything I needed for one person on a business trip. It was not fancy but very serviceable and very right on the price for DC.
- 5/5
It was quiet and out of the way
- 1/5
I was not going to complain but since you asked: Shower did not have hot water, the sink was clogged, door window was not private, hallway light shinned into room, smoke detector was directly above bed with green light shining down. Bedside had no lamp, I plugged in phone will main room light was on, went to sleep phone was not charged due to outlet being connected to switch, bed had no comforter it was just sheets, remotes were sticky. Toilet paper was very cheap and ripped easily. No mini fridge in room, i had to put my food in a public area fridge that was not even cold, there was no water I had to leave to buy water. Overall not worth $125. Location was good and the staff was very nice, he makes coffee in the morning.
- 4/5
Great spot, safe and walkable, lots of dining options, YMCA close by. A very clean bedroom and bathroom. Sparkling white sheets and towels. Coffee and tea in the lobby complimentary 24/7. Staff is excellent. An old building which could use a lot of TLC but everything works great. Just for spending a night or a few while enjoying the city, a very affordable option. Thank you for your hospitality.
- 5/5
Good location very near downtown.

Drunken MAGA
- 2/5
I had hairs in the bathroom, bed sheets were stained, carpet had dirt. For the price I paid and service I got is terrible. I would never stay here again.
- 2/5
I will not be returning to this hotel/inn. I felt like an inconvenience to them for asking questions about my stay. They did not ask me anything about my stay or needing anything. The hotel cleaning staff rummaged through my personal belongings. Overall, a poor experience that I could have spent the $$ on somewhere else. You all are in the hotel industry...act like it.
- 3/5
Rooms are old . Bed was very comfortable. Room was clean. Parking not so good. If ur lucky u get a parking spot on the street. DC is not big vehicle friendly. Had rough time finding a place to park my full size SUV.
- 4/5
It is an old historic place, and is reasonably well kept.
- 4/5
Having said all this, the hotel worked with me to provide a room my mom could access. The staff were incredibly helpful, courteous, and attentive. The beds/sheets were clean and soft. Shower, bathroom and towels were neat and clean. They held our luggage for free while we saw the White House. For an economic stay made last minute, I am very pleased to have been lucky enough to find the Windsor Inn. It was not the most glamorous hotel in DC but the staff made up for all the physical faults.
- 2/5
Shower--YIKES. Mildew with fur on it!!!! Better than a tent, sorta
- 4/5
Unique charming older property in DC
- 4/5
Room was very hot, heated by an old radiator, we ran the window A/c to make it comfortable. Even though the hotel is old the room and lobby were clean. Bathroom was clean and no issues. Hotel located in nice area of town, felt safe walking around area. We stayed on a weekend and parking was fine, during the week parking would be limited.
- 4/5
The bed had a very hard mattress. That is the only negative thing about this hotel.
- 5/5
The building is in relatively good condition, some of the doors are a little worn or warped and the walls in the bathroom in my room were bubbling but besides that the room was good.
- 5/5
Great staff, clean & cute boutique hotel.
- 4/5
We enjoyed our stay at Windsor Inn. The property is an older property, but everything is well maintained. There was no excess noise and was a short walk to the train station and lots of dining options 2 blocks away on 14th st. Would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
Had an easy, affordable stay. Very convenient location to walk to many restaurants in the area plus I love the architecture of the surrounding neighborhood. There is not an elevator so make note of that when booking/packing. Only qualm was that the ice machine broke.
- 3/5
A weird smell from the carpet and in the bathroom too
- 4/5
Dislike- lack of parking Like architecture Dislike- $150 hold for in case of things that I already don’t do-
- 5/5
Great stay. Convenient for where we wanted to go. Perhaps no frills but great service and staff and a decent sleep!
- 3/5
This was the first time we stayed in DC overnight. We chose to stay here because it was convenient to the event we were attending. The room and bathroom were clean. Room was small, almost prison cell-like. Bed was comfortable enough, with clean sheets, but seemed smaller than a double bed. AC worked well. Not enough clear, flat spaces to put things down. Free WIFI was spotty, mostly awful. TV reception was so poor, I turned it off. Would have been nice to have 2 washcloths in bathroom, instead of one. No hooks to hang a robe or towels near the shower. And a shelf or caddy in the shower to place our soap, shampoo, etc would have also been nice. I mean, www.simplehuman, Windsor Hotel! Coffee in the lobby was very generic, but lack of cream or half-n-half is regrettable. The one ice machine in the building was not working. If you've driven a car to the Windsor, consider adding $37 to $50 to your budget for nearby garage parking. We took a chance and parked on a side street nearby, but it was a Saturday, so enforcement was probably lax. You may not be as lucky during the week, and/or for a multi-night stay.
- 2/5
The inn is very rundown with dated peeling wallpaper, water stained ceilings and stained rugs, our bathroom, which was recently painted was done very poorly. One of the emergency exits was blocked with furniture. Our two bedroom room had no dressers and all of the furniture seriously looked like it was collected from someone’s trash. It needs a huge infusion of capital to bring it up to what I would’ve considered basic standards.

Nice , old, etc.
- 3/5
My room didn’t have a good condition. Conditioner worked very noisy, isolation between the rooms is a very bad, I heard the sound of working TV from next door room like it was my room TV. Blinds was broken and I couldn’t to open them. Bathroom didn’t have any hook to hang up my robe. But my friend’s room had much better condition for the same price!
- 4/5
The room was not clean enough and it smelled pretty bad
- 2/5
It was a little room . It was tight. I felt closed in. And a little tv.
- 3/5
No frills kind of hotel on the older side, but quaint and quiet. Not my first stay here, and the staff is fairly nice. Rooms are dated but clean, and my only bone to pick was the low water pressure with faucets and toilet.
- 3/5
very nice curb appeal hotel, not for elderly,no elevater,no parking, could not sleep well worring about my car, being towed, comfortable beds,no fridge or microwave in room
- 5/5
Nothing unique, the stay was good for the purpose of the visit
- 3/5
For the price of the hotel it was fine for the amount of time we were there. On the last night we found a centipede in the bathroom which grossed us out. The walls in the bathroom are also falling apart and the paint is coming off. Entire hotel is made with carpet, needs to be updated for cleanliness.
- 5/5
This place was so cute and in a fabulous location. It was quaint and clean with lovely staff and quirky decor.
- 5/5
I enjoyed the vintage feel of the hotel, and the staff was very friendly. Great neighborhood too. Downsides are that it's not too close to the metro and there's not many options for parking long-term nearby.
- 1/5
The hotel has a weird smell I wouldn’t stay there again.
- 1/5
The front desk staff had a very good attitude. But there was a strong smell of marijuana in the room. The quilt had a strong smell of sweat and seemed to have never been washed. There was an argument next door, but it was never resolved.
- 3/5
Mixed bag. It's a great location in NW within walking distance to loads of things. Safe neighborhood. But rooms are badly in need of updating. And that's probably an understatement. Old creaky bed with flat pillows. Marks and chipped paint on walls. Wall mounted AC unit doesn't work very well. Old and dilipated furniture. Shag carpet. An ok place if you are crashing a night or two but not very comfortable and you will want to get out of your room quickly.
- 1/5
Bed, pillows were lumpy. Bathroom disgusting.
- 1/5
Horrible! Dirty! Terrible bed!
- 1/5
I had monkey pox and they refused o let me cancel and get a refund even 2 days prior to the check in. Immoral and money hungry. They do not have ethics.
- 4/5
Enjoyed the outdoor seating area.
- 5/5
Great location.
- 1/5
There was no accessible parking nearby and the garage the staff told us to use was closed on Memorial Day (not convenient). The room was dirty and the bed looked like it had bedbugs.
- 4/5
Convenient location. Decent for the price point. So not fabulous, but you get what you pay for. No trills or bell and whistles, but my room was clean and orderly. Lucky to be in the back on the lower floor so it was quiet and easy to access. For the price will do it again.
- 1/5
Good location - terrible hotel.
- 3/5
Staff was very kind
- 3/5
This is an old hotel. There is no elevator, and the furniture is old. The blinds were broken and I couldn’t open them to look out the windows. That being said, the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The area is nice and feels safe.
- 5/5
Clean, comfortable & a great price.
- 3/5
Old property, furniture and rugs
- 2/5
If you are looking for a clean bed and don’t care about basic amenities, this place will do. Good neighborhood with close public transportation. There are no basic amenities. The rooms haven’t been updated in decades. The phone in the room to front desk wasn’t even connected. The water is either ice cold or scalding hot. No spot on shower to even set soap or shampoo (and bring your own of both). The hair dryer didn’t work. There is no fridge in room. The a/c worked sometimes. You have to walk a couple blocks to purchase water or snacks. No ice machine. The steps are a lot if you are on 4th floor. The plus: staff were nice. The bed & linens were clean. Easy walking to shops/restaurants. Right on S2 bus line.
- 3/5
This hotel was okay. The area was very pretty and residential but a quick walk to coffee.shops. The first let down was NO ELEVATOR. Be prepared to bring your own drinks and food. I can understand not having a restaurant, but this place didn’t even have a vending machine. The room was clean but quite run down. A mosh mash of old furniture and no fridge. Nice little garden area in the front entrance.
- 2/5
There was a communal mini fridge and microwave on the first floor. The hotel staff was asleep sitting at the desk. Very convenient location.
- 1/5
Absolutely awful stay. The room barely had any windows, making it dark and depressing. On top of that, it felt dirty and the air quality seemed poor. The bed was filthy as well. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.
- 4/5
Nice service and great location. Pretty patio out front. Rooms and building are ‘historic’ but clean and comfy.
- 2/5
Poor maintenance
- 4/5
This hotel did the job and had a bit of charm. The only complaint we had is that the vending machine was down so we had to walk a good way to get some food after long flight and getting in late.
- 2/5
At checkin they didmt know much about parking. Were we given wrong directions to the room we were assigned twice. There was no heat in the room, the window leadng to the fire escape was unlocked and the doors didn't lock from the inside. The person at the desk the next day said we shouldn't have been assigned that room. We left. It was prepaid. They wouldn't do refunds.
- 5/5
A quiet safe place to sleep, adorable neighborhood directly around, tiny bit of sketch walking down U street (from U street station). Big bathtub/shower size. Trader Joe's 2 blocks away for drinks and premade wraps, salads, water, kombucha. The S2 bus right outside will take you straight downtown to all the sights for $2! Ubers/lyfts get super pricey 4-6pm rush hours $30 for just 2 miles. Effective space heater, window unit AC, clean for an old not updated hotel. The bathroom looked like it had some new tile and fixtures. Lots of dings, scratches, stains and flaws in the old building, not glamorous, but has some interesting old fixtures and history throughout. It's a decent place to stay for a budget overnight. Bed was ok, towels good, no breakfast bar, just coffee, tea, microwave, there was a small fridge in the lobby but not sure if it was for guest use. The staff was super helpful and friendly. Checked our bags in with the front desk at 11am and picked them up safely at 5pm. Overall good stay and I would stay again for the low price, close to everything!
- 3/5
Older hotel…. No elevator. I needed it for a night and it worked perfectly for me! I would do a short stay again at this place.
- 5/5
Very knowledgeable and friendly staff
- 4/5
The property is good for budget travelers, staff was friendly, great location, easy to reach and cozy
- 2/5
Wonderful reception staff but not comfortable for business travelers who need convenience and amenities, such as food and a parking garage
- 4/5
Rooms were small but adequate
- 4/5
It was good
- 5/5
Very nice, staff nice not sure why people complain.
- 5/5
You have great access to North-South bus routes on 16th and 14th streets and east west on U street. There are lots of food options of various prices within 2-3 blocks and the neighborhood is easy to walk in. My room was comfortable (particularly the bed) and clean (cleaned everyday which I didn't expect). The front door staff was pleasant and helpful. I would definitely consider again.
- 5/5
Very beautiful n vintage hotel
- 4/5
I did read a review saying the mattress was very old. It's entirely possible that that was the case with my room, but they had a pretty nice mattress topper on top and so I was pretty comfortable. And I have chronic back pain so that's saying something. I imagine a little place like this would need to raise some money in order to be able to afford to purchase new mattresses for every room. All in all, I would stay there again.
- 2/5
it's a hole in the wall taking advantage of location and providing nothing
- 3/5
The stairs to the third floor are starting to buckle / slant on the right side. Without bracing, walking on that side will rip the stairs out soon.
- 4/5
Modest accommodation at unbelievable bargain price in a great old DC neighborhood. Staff were so kind and helpful!
- 4/5
Room was decent
- 4/5
- it is a walk up to 4th floor - No refrigerator or microwave in rooms So you need to be prepared
- 4/5
Good enough, amazing location.
- 5/5
Loved the property, wish i had a refrigerator in the room.
- 5/5
My stay was Brief, and comfortable.
